Navigating Digital Transformation: Avoiding the Pitfalls in Your Association's Journey
Digital transformation is more than a buzzword. It’s a crucial process that impacts every aspect of an association. But what happens when this transformation is rushed or mismanaged? Often, the result is complexity, expensive but unnecessary tools, and insufficient growth. This issue is one I come across again and again in my consulting work, but also as a member and volunteer for several…

Found a comic in the discount bin today called Frontiersman by Patrick Kindlon and Marco Ferrari, about a burnt-out superhero from the 80s who comes out of retirement to do a tree-sit protest, only to draw fire from everyone in the superhuman community who had unfinished business with him when he dropped off the grid. The comic was really fun in general- I'm a sucker for character studies of capes who are allowed by the narrative to age out of their late twenties- but this exchange I found particularly enjoyable.

Okay but there's something deeply sad about the fact that this is the only Apogee Solstice Caleb (and probably many of the wizards working on all of these problems) will see, a massively powerful arcane event that can be used to do incredible, miraculous things, and because Ludinus had to be an absolute bitch, he's here doing this bullshit where he can't even have fun with magic because there's a dispel running once a minute.
This is Caleb's life's work and it is hugely important to him, and I'm sure he's made his peace with that, but at the end of the day, the fact that he is pursuing this to its end is a duty born of guilt and trauma. It's not simply something he is doing because he wants to, it's something he does because he must, and no one else will or can. Magic is something he loves on such a more fundamental level, from even before Trent, and still now he has to push that aside in order to focus on this.
Caleb Widogast can, must, should, and DESERVES TO chomp Ludinus Da'leth in half as a spellcasting motherfucking dragon.

sumire could've been so much more interesting, like. okay. i get it. kasumi was really nice but at the same time she was insensitive as fuck to her sister and that made her feel like shit 24/7 and you'd think that'd piss sumire off, no? or at least you'd think it'd be made clear that she's not pissed purely because she thinks so lowly of herself. no. she just sings kasumi's praises even with everything in mind.
like. you'd think "hm maybe kasumi wasn't the best sister even though she meant well" no. no she's the perfect person and sumire still loves her and looks up to her well enough to wear her likeness even after accepting herself as sumire post-3rd semester. sumire didn't even like gymnastics as much as her and she obviously had more of an interest in cooking but she's gotta go on to fulfill her sister's dream even though hey maybe that's not what she wants--no that's exactly what she wants it's what the game says can't you read.
idk man sumire continuing to think her sister was perfect and following on with that "dream" of theirs even though it was holding down her mental health doesn't sound much like her rebelling to me. ik her real awakening was meant to be rebelling against maruki's reality but in that case her whole personal deal regarding how she sees herself and kasumi doesn't mean that much. she doesn't get to do her own thing. she has to go and achieve what her sister wanted for her, because god forbid sumire be her own person with her own interests and wants that have nothing to do with her dead sister.
fuck, kasumi could've been more interesting too. she doesn't have to be this perfect, well-meaning sister who did nothing wrong except make an oopsies that got her sister to have a mental breakdown and accidentally get her fucking killed. like, c'mon, you could infer that kasumi may have had her own ego over getting constantly praised for her efforts and skills and maybe that was what got her to be so insensitive to sumire's mental health. maybe she was so far up her own ass she couldn't see how she hurt her sister over the course of them doing gymnastics together because literally all she knew was that praise. maybe the way she was being treated got her to emotionally abuse her own sister without her even realizing it. maybe we could've seen more of how that affected sumire's mental health after her death--oh what's that? she still has to be a perfectly marketable waifu with next to no personality aside from being nice and cute and romantically interested in the protagonist? okay, ATLUS!!

Pearl looks up at the pink, glittering banner that Stress had made. It says: “HERMITCRAFT ALIEN SUPPORT GROUP CLUB THINGY”. She looks down again. She looks back up. She looks down.
“I didn’t know Zedaph was also an alien. I thought he was a sheep,” she finally says, going to grab a cup of water and oh, were those non-Scar-or-Ren based pastries? Score.
“Of course I’m an alien! How else do you explain me?” Zedaph says.
“Nah, he’s not, but it’s funnier to let him be here,” Cub says at the exact same time.
Pearl thinks about it for a moment. She nods. Both of their logics are sound. Regardless of which one is true, Zedaph should absolutely be in their club.
“…I thought Etho was an alien actually,” Pearl admits after a moment.
“Common newbie mistake,” Stress says. “In actuality, we have no idea what he is! Personally, I think he’s an escaped clone of a polar bear that forgot what polar bears look like.”
“Could be a ghost,” Cubfan contributes.
“My current guess is ‘guy who thinks he’s a ladder’,” Zedaph contributes.
“…why?” Pearl asks, mostly to see what Zedaph would say.
“I don’t know,” Zedaph says.
“Fair,” Pearl says.
“Anyway, welcome to the club!” Stress says, excited. “Oooh, I can’t believe we missed inducting you in last season! It would have been so good, what with all the doomsday theorizing and all. You should have been here for Cubfan’s rants!”
“Aliens. They’re out there,” Cub, an alien, says solemnly.
“Really? Personally I don’t believe in them,” Pearl, also an alien, says blandly. Stress happily giggles. Zedaph makes a hum and notes something on a clipboard.
“I can show you my proof,” Cub says. “It’s all in these blurry photographs and radar information.”
“Faked by the government to hide the real mysteries: mole people,” Pearl says promptly.
“Oh, I do like moles. They have cute noses,” Stress says.
Pearl decides she likes the alien club immediately. She should show up to these more often.

Thought you all would like to know: I'm finallyyy working on a new UI for the game that includes settings to change the game's font and font size, as well as a dark theme. It also has a reactive mobile display so you can play the game in portrait mode.
I'm using the first one made by Vahnya, since I have no need for a menu screen and liked the look of that one the most. I wanted to keep the game as close to it's current design as possible. But her other template looks gorgeous too, definitely would rec.
I'll be posting previews for it as well as a working version of it tomorrow on my Patreon for patrons to try out, they can give feedback on how they like it/what adjustments I should make as well.
I'll update the public release with it before the release of CH11 💖

The earlier Grue post has reminded me of an observation I had a while ago but never got around to hammering out- basically no superheroes actually featured in a parahumans story maintain a secret identity in the classic bifurcated sense. There's anonymity, sure, and as seen in the Dauntless interlude there are cover stories that their neighbors hear about their day job, but with the exception of pointed edge cases like Alexandria and Brandish, the professionalization of heroism is near total. None of these people are juggling a day job. Examples of the classic dual identity situation are actually slightly more common among the villains- Purity has a day job as an interior decorator, and Kaiser and Coil are in charge of their respective companies- but of course all of those are kinda "set-your-own-hours" kinds of situations. Kaiser's got people and Coil's literally got a power custom made to grease the wheels on two-timing in that way. The majority are full-time gangsters or mercenaries. Taylor's pre-Leviathan juggling of school and supervillainy is actually the main example of anyone trying to do it and the course that ultimately takes is instructional as to why she's the only one. Taylor mentions that people joke about her iterant teacher Mr. Quinlan secretly being a cape, but a lot of the book is spent quietly putting the torch to the idea that that kind of balance is tenable. Like at a minimum people would notice that you're running off all the time, there's a whole shell-game played with pulling random kids out of class at Arcadia to obfuscate which ones are actually the superheroes.

It's only been a few days and I feel like a boiling pot, I have a lot of ideas, a lot of theories, so I have to ask: in your drawings of Ling's little Baihe she looks like that girl LBD dressed up as when she was arguing/Talking to the emperor, please tell me she didn't disguise herself as Ling's Baihe in front of them.
Sometimes (which is... A lot of the time), I think people who read Blue and Violet are smarter than I am.
Because I genuinely have to admit, I had to re-watch that flashback scene in LMK canon to realise the point you were making.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The truth is that... I had no idea how similar I had ended up making Ivory Lady's child form to little Baihe (there are differences, yes, because the only reference I had for Baihe was Xiuying's own child design I created a while ago. Baihe was simply designed to look a lot like her).
Like... I... I did not realise. At all. But I look back on this now and, yeah, you are right! Little Baihe really does look like Ivory Lady on that scene!
But it was not my intention for Ivory Lady to have purposefully taken up little Baihe's face in that scene. But y'know what?
Y'know what mate?
I like it. I really like your theory. I like it so much that yeah, alright, your theory is right. That's what LBD wanted to do. She transformed into Baihe in that scene. Why? I don't know. Maybe it was just the first child's face that popped into her mind? That would make sense, because I'll tell all of you right now that little Baihe and the Ivory Lady would have had many other encounters (along with Ling), but it was all behind the scenes and not featured in the Blue and Violet story itself (because there is only so much I am capable of writing, haha). Of course out of all children the Ivory Lady would think of, it would be Baihe.
But I don't think the Ivory Lady would have done this to 'specifically' fuck with Ling. No, no, no, she is not that cruel.
I do not think she likes to torture or harm people. In fact, isn't the pain that people experience one of the very things she wants to stop when trying to end the world? But she does see a necessity in it in order to pursue destiny, which, kind of makes her a hypocrite.
Anyways, I have rambled enough. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)))

actually bc im never gonna shut up abt it while im still on this im gonna ramble abt botw and totk and maybe how i wouldve written a sequel . & i will pay u money to listen i promise
my favoritest of totks ideas are what it expands from botw. botws whole atmosphere is drowned in quiet mourning. something bad has happened but it was a long time ago. it still hurts but theres nothing to be done now but move forward. something is still missing but all you can do is find something else. nobody has resources to rebuild and you can hear deafening echoes of better times but the alternative is giving up. you are in this frozen state of not quite moving on and not quite in despair. like the numbness stage of grief. and the pivotal element of all of that is that link is alone. like, oppressively alone. its the primary vehicle of conveying this mood. and its interesting because this can be read not only as what link is experiencing through the player but what zelda is feeling as she holds back ganon. its an interesting contrast to have zelda mature faster than link in the flashbacks, only for link to pull her the rest of the way by growing himself
and the reason why i so strongly adore the light dragon aspect of the plot is because it shows how attached to everything zelda has gotten. arguably, zelda held back ganon in botw because she loved link. in totk, she becomes the light dragon because she loves hyrule, which had previously been so unimaginably cruel to her. the crux of her character is learning that attachment is good. loving is good. you deserve to leave an imprint on the world in a shape of Your choosing instead of being another factory print on a paper. on a surface level, shes making the same choice, but the motivation and growth behind it is really powerful
i could waffle for literally ever about all that and the point is that totk takes these ideas and implements them really well through in-game worldbuilding and specifically zelda turning into the light dragon. i would occasionally get extremely emotional just seeing how things have expanded because it feels like the world is finally moving on. theres a catharsis in seeing hyrule finally heal after knowing its desolation so intimately, especially because the state of the land itself is such a strong parallel to the arcs of the two main characters, so you get the sense that not only can people move on, link and zelda specifically have started to as well. thats my favorite part
thats why i think its an odd choice that they decided on a time travel plot. if zelda HAS to be the one getting saved, if she cant be a companion in some way either via sheikah facetime or spirit tracks shenanigans or whatever, there are lots of ways to do this without her being magic fruit snacked ten bajillion years into the past. why spend all this effort intertwining her and link with the land, only to remove her from the equation and have no further growth? in botw its understandable that hyrule is stagnant and only changes when link does because zelda is stagnant and link is doing the one changing during the game. in totk its the opposite. there are lots of ways to do this with out Having to play as zelda (though honestly that would be the way id go about it)
also a lot of my own ideas have to do with the wasted potential of a place like the depths???? what the hell do you mean theres this mind bogglingly big cavern underneath the entirety of hyrule which mysterious people used to live in and it has almost no story relevance beside being a cool setpiece???????? I FEEL INSANE?!?!??!?!? there are so many good ideas in totk that never get expanded dude FUCK
i think no matter how much i speculate and draft my own preferences of how i wouldve liked totk to elaborate on the things it introduces i cant ever bring myself to present them like they couldve realistically happened and gotten thru the nintendo writing room simply bc of the games format. if it were up to me doing certain story missions would radically change the open world as events happened in real time and thats not the MO of the game's design philosophy. honestly totk's biggest enemy is the memory system and i need to kill it with fire
