Realised that this never posted, but I stand by it:
It's really weird that Rogue One's aesthetic, which was specifically developed for a Star Wars film which had minimal space wizards and was instead about much more subdued characters and murkier moral themes, has now become the aesthetic which gets slathered over all new live-action Star Wars whether it fits or not.
Mando mostly works with that look because while there are some big personalities, they're almost all side characters, while the mains are stoic and reserved except for Grogu. Andor looks downright great, not least as much of it is shot on actual locations and on full sets.
But apply this to Ahsoka and Kenobi, and it rather cuts against the vibe they're going for. Space wizards, with their operatic cosmic conflicts and connection to a mystic energy, tend to want something a bit more heightened (which I think is an under-discussed problem in the PT which is very muted much of the time, and a major strength in the more stylised Empire and TLJ). The colours are muted, the angles mostly flat, and it ends up being at odds with the story being told.
To extend Kenobi some goodwill, lots of the latter seems to have come from the Volume. You keep seeing where the cinematographer wanted to crank a shot of Vader to be sharper and more impactful, but couldn't because the Volume doesn't permit that. Although I do think there are some baffling bits of blocking like in the chase and the first duel, the floaty shaky-cam is a generally poor look and really, Lucasfilm shouldn't lean so hard on the Volume (I mean, seriously guys, look at Monarch. That looks miles better than anything you've done on TV except for Andor.) But point is, they tried and ran into constraints.
Meanwhile Ahsoka seems exceedingly comfortable with both feet in Gordon Willis' metaphorical bucket of cement. The characters' energy levels are tamped way down from Rebels to match the muted presentation, and things often feel low-energy even just within the context of these shows. Even when the show steps into the World Between Worlds, an explicitly supernatural plane (or goes into Ahsoka's coma dream) there's no real change in look. Contrast the way that Empire employs that low shutter speed in the dark cave, while TLJ steps into something surreal complete with voiceover and an impossible CG camera move. In Ahsoka, though, there's little attempt to make the place feel otherworldly beyond how the scenery looks.
And these are largely missing a vital part of Rogue One's look, which is scale. Both Gareth Edwards and cinematographer Greig Fraser are great at portraying large-scale things in interesting ways, and that's something which will tend to get lost with a move to the small screen and the massive use of the Volume, without shots from locations or physical sets to balance it out and make spaces feel more real.

your writing is incredible and i cannot believe you don't have more followers - seriously! have you ever considered writing about Cassian x reader and moments of intimacy? like not explicit or sexual per say but just those moments of intimacy you share with a romantic partner that are not written about enough. i love you and thank you for your service to the very dry desert that is this fandom - you are the watering hole that never dries up and is not a mirage
hello!! haha thank you! i love this idea!!! i might write a longer like. actual piece of writing but for now im in headcanon mode. here are some of the ideas going swooooosh in my head . im running w mechanic! reader because i'm deep in that 'verse.
warnings: none lol just sweetness. fluff.
___ - even though he's such a lone wolf when it comes to being a spy - and also because he's lost almost everyone he's ever loved - we see especially in the earlier episodes of andor that cassian is pretty enthusiastic about physical touch when it comes to the people that he loves.
- he's a hugger with people he cares about, which is one thing, but i also see him as the sort of person that, when he gets close to and comfortable with you, he'll lean into those casual points of contact you have with a person. - like sitting next to each other; shoulders or legs touching. the warmth of someone next to you, the comfort of contact from someone you trust. i also think he'd be pretty into holding hands whenever humanly possible. - visiting you in the hangars; greeting you by squeezing your hand. holding it while you're talking, or walking somewhere. just casual, comforting points of contact. - but like he'd try to be cool about it because he tries to be cool about everything. - he's like a cat. won't let anyone touch him except like one or two special people. - one of my favourite emotional intimacy things with any kind of relationship is when you reach the point that you don't have to perform or be anything other than your natural self around someone - cassian would love this. he has to put up a facade every day. for the work he does. for being undercover. for being a leader. - being able to just sit in silence, being able to decompress. talk about your day. be closer to Kassa than Cassian Andor, Hero of the Rebellion. going to his room at the end of the day and being able to cuddle up in complete silence and relax. - being able to be angry, or irritable, and knowing that even if either of you snap at each other, you'll sort it out. acceptance of people's moods and behaviours comes with time. - he's a prickly guy. like y'all would for SURE have arguments about something or other. but he's incredibly loyal. and for you? who wouldn't want to keep that man forever? not letting him go any time soon. - when you reach a point where you don't have to communicate verbally about things - like when someone's pissing you off in the mess hall in a group setting; just being able to make eye contact with each other and you're both like 'fuck this guy.' - if cass came back after a mission or you come to your room after a long day, and the other just knows what the vibe is by reading your body language. - the thing where you say the same thing at the same time because you spend so much time together, and it's sort of dumb or embarrassing, but you also feel sort of proud of the connection you have. - he's such an eye contact dude. he says a lot with his eyes. i'd think you'd get very good at knowing exactly what he's thinking. and a little (a lot) flustered if it's obvious he's looking at you affectionately. - the THING my other favourite thing is when someone you love does something that's so them and you're just immediately flooded by the i love this person!!!!. and you feel like you have to say it before it explodes out of you. - cassian isn't a super verbose guy emotionally speaking but he does alright. - so i'm not sure if he'd ever just say the "i love you" out of nowhere like i mentioned but... i think in the right situation. on that rare occasion?? yeah he'd say it. and it would probably make your knees weak because he's a very earnest person.
that's all from me.. those are my ideas rn. thank you for the ask !!!

Do you think the Star Wars universe could handle a story with gray morality, where good and evil aren't easily defined?
If the story doesn't have Force users?
Easily.
Solo, Book of Boba Fett, Rogue One, these are all stories where I think there was an opportunity to really make the characters morally "gray".
If you want my opinion, in Solo & Fett, they barely scratched the surface. In Rogue One, they explored it with Cassian Andor, but also offset it by changing Jyn Erso from this kick-ass rebel into this starry-eyed girl who says "hope" every other scene.
But in each of the above-mentioned movies, there's a danger about it not feeling like Star Wars anymore.
Solo is "Star Wars meets the heist subgenre",
Fett might've been "Star Wars meets the crime show subgenre",
Rogue One is "Star Wars meets the war movie subgenre".
So it's Star Wars... with something else that - some would argue - dilutes it. At it's core, Star Wars is fundamentally about Good vs Evil. As a result, these various genres are never explored quite to my personal satisfaction.
I'm part of the crowd that thinks the Star Wars movie franchise should expand it's genres exponentially.
I wanna see a romcom that starts in the Jedi Temple and ends with a passionate speech in Cloud City,
I wanna see a buddy-cop movie between Quinlan Vos and Vilmar Grarhk/Mace and Anakin/Yoda and Maz Kanata,
I wanna see a horror film where the monster is a Sith Lord,
I wanna see a zombie movie with Doctor Evazan as the mastermind villain,
a detective noir film set between Ep. 1 and Ep. 2 featuring Rael Averross investigating the disappearance of some Kaleesh warlord and eventually finding out about Dooku's turn to the Dark Side
and a slice-of-life comedy about the entire disaster lineage. Seriously I just need this whole thread to be canon.
But I'm not holding my breath because I know that there'd be a big chunk of people who'd go "this doesn't feel like Star Wars" and "you're hurting the brand".
It's why George Lucas & Seth Green's Star Wars Detours was cancelled.
It's why Lord and Miller left Solo.
The brand can't change too much, apparently. As cheesy as it is, it has to be about Good vs Evil, it has to be about hope, etc.
So it gets relegated to other mediums. Qira and the Crimson Reign comic come to mind. She’s awesome, the whole Crimson Reign series is amazing... but I don’t think we’re gonna see anything like that in a movie.
If the story does have Force users?
On the one hand...
I think we already got it, and it's the majority of the Star Wars fandom who just couldn't handle it.
The Jedi in the Clone War are caught between a rock and a hard place. There's no morally right choices, there's only "less morally wrong" choices. They've been drafted into a war where they have to choose between the minor of two evils every day.
They're usually the guys who'll be the closest thing to perfection, but now they're gradually being sullied by the Republic's exploitation of their own compassion and sense of duty. Every morally right choice they make also comes with a morally wrong consequence stuck to it. The more they fight, the more these servants of the Light Side make the Dark Side stronger... but if they don't fight, the Dark Side gets stronger even more rapidly. And they can't help it because, again, they're being forced to do this. So all they can do is keep moving forward and hope for the best.
They're not the villains, but they're sure as hell not perfect. There's a nuance there.
But a very, very large part of the audience reacted to this as "the Jedi were evil hypocrites who sent child soldiers/slaves to their deaths and had Order 66 coming!"
On the other hand...
If you mean a story with "gray" morality in which the Force-sensitive characters themselves are "gray"... I dunno.
The way the Force works is that if you are "gray", you won't stay that way for long. At some point you either choose the Light or (much likelier) fall to the Dark Side.
In Legends, we've had Quinlan Vos and Cade Skywalker's stories echoing this.
Tumblr media
These are both stories with morally "grey" protagonists who vacillate between the Light Side and the Dark Side, who use the Dark Side as a tool and think they can get away with it only to get dragged deeper down by it... but both stories end with the protagonist choosing the Light Side.
Tumblr media
So those might be what you're looking for?
But the morality in those stories isn't gray, there's a very clear definition of what's good and what's evil... it's just the protagonist who is gray and their journey is about finally choosing and fully embracing the side of good.
Still, both Quin and Cade's stories are goddamn masterpieces.
For more info on "Gray Jedi", I talk more about it here.
In Canon, we have Bendu whose morals are very evidently “gray”... but he’s so neutral and passive that I don’t think you can center a story around him.
But yeah, beyond that... I don't know.
I don't think so, I'll tell you that. When a Force user is involved, I think that that's when Star Wars should be about good vs evil.

Loki S2E3:
I like how the first half of the season is directed on saving the TVA, as opposed to last season's agenda of destroying it. The irony is way too funny.
Gotta say that Loki, Mobius, B-15, D-90 (?), Casey, and O.B. running the TVA is the best thing ever. They're all amazing together. I hope Sylvie decides to come back this episode and stick around. Looked like she was thinking about it.
Ooh, interesting spin on the MCU logo theme today.
RENSLAYER SIGHTING.
She is so out of place there omfg.
"That's it?" Pretty underwhelming, right?
Miss Minutes changes colors 👀
OG He Who Remains as a child is something I didn't know I needed.
Literally everything revolves around that book, doesn't it? Wait- doesn't this mean O.B. should get credit for helping create the TVA??
"That's gonna be an awkward reunion." I love Mobius.
"Well, maybe she got it out of her system." Lmao. Doubt it. Might not try to kill them, but she's definitely no friend right now.
The thing I love about Mobius & Loki going on missions in the timeline is that we get to see so much more of their dynamic. They're definitely one of my favorite duos ever.
"Thor isn't that tall." 😂
Renslayer talking to a ghost clock in a bag is way too funny.
"Don't let her see you." So, either this is going to go like the Andor finale or she is totally going to see them. Noted.
Whiplash at seeing adult Victor Timely as opposed to the little boy ten minutes ago. This dude literally dedicated his life to controlling time.
NO COMPUTER, I DON'T WANT TO UPDATE JAVA RIGHT NOW.
Okay, I know Jonathan Majors is being accused of domestic violence or something, but the guy is a great actor. Not that that excuses him of any crimes he might've committed.
ARE THEY GOING TO KIDNAP HIM?
Mobius, this is such a bad idea, my guy. His ambitions are already too powerful. He'll just take over again.
"I don't do partners." THE LOOK ON THE OTHER GUY'S FACE. 🤣
Oh, great, he's selling it.
Is Renslayer seriously about to find them out because Loki stepped on a dude's foot?
Loki has absolutely no patience and his solution to that problem was the best thing ever 😂
I can't believe they ACTUALLY managed to sneak up on her.
Renslayer and Loki & Mobius fighting of talking to Victor is the funniest thing ever. It's like they're fighting for custody, except it's their younger father or something and he knows literally none of them.
And there he goes. 👀
"We just wanna talk!" You are literally chasing this man.
Victor is such a trickster.
SYLVIE WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE.
I wonder if He Who Remains remembered Loki and Sylvie fighting over him back when he was Victor still.
"Well, your machete hasn't solved any problems thus far." Ouch. She literally did deserve that, though.
This moment is the S1 finale all over again.
Giant ghost clock. 👀
Well, at least Miss Minutes had fun.
Victor and Renslayer really did fall in love, didn't they? Huh.
Is Miss Minutes seriously jealous of Renslayer right now? Lmao.
He just called Mobius a butler 😂
"Loki helped murder your variant." He did fucking not, stop manipulating the poor guy.
"Take him! He's all yours!" I almost spat out my soda.
Ooh, boat. How romantic. The writers planned this.
"I always knew my ideas were good. I just didn't have the technology to make them really work." Shit, now I feel bad for him.
The look on his face after she said "partnership."
LMAO.
I KNEW HE WAS GONNA DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT. 🤣
But also. Miss Minutes seems to despise her, so yeah. More of her manipulation is happening.
SHE WAS JEALOUS.
That is the weirdest love triangle ever.
........Why do I feel like Miss Minutes is trying to manipulate him into giving her a body so she can kill him and take over the TVA personally?
There was definitely an "I love you" in there. Holy shit.
Ooh, prototype pruning-baton.
How the hell did Loki & Mobius find them?!?
Victor has to think they're all crazy by now, doesn't he? And he'd be right tbh. Poor dude.
AND THERE'S SYLVIE AGAIN.
This guy is having a rough few days, honestly, what the fuck.
Sylvie, it's not okay to shape people into murderers by trying to kill them before they've committed the crime.
"I can make my own choices." 😭
AYYYYYY.
Respect, Sylvie. Respect. No way letting him leave much less live was easy.
Oh, okay. Well. Wasn't that unexpected. I mean, she wanted to go to the End of Time, didn't she? There she is. Enjoy the corpse.
LMAO AND SHE'S STUCK WITH MISS MINUTES AGAIN.
WAIT, I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THE SECRET WAS.
I can't believe season two is halfway over already...

10 fandoms 10 blorbos, very belatedly responding to a tag from lovely @windsweptinred:
1. Bioshock: Mark Meltzer
Tumblr media
This man is the subject of my very first post on tumblr, he must be included here, I adore this sad fuck.
2. Homestuck: Diamonds Droog
Tumblr media
A toss up between him and Slick. I was and am a Homestuck Intermission girlie and this must be acknowledged.
3. Dragon Age: Justice
Tumblr media
I have many many Dragon Age faves and DAO and also Awakening is so so important to me, but Jorstin here is the fellow I have the most distinct and personal opinions about and is, aside from OCs like my Brosca Warden, Avi, the only one I have a strong rp/fic voice for. He’s such a weird and cool dude!
4. DC Comics/Animated Universe: Martian Manhunter/ J’onn J’onzz
Tumblr media
My BOY. I love him most in the VERY specific comic pictured above (1988 miniseries that establishes the Martian gods as being flaming horrorterrors, as we see in Sandman w/L’zoril Dream, it’s GOOD SHIT)—but also in general. Criminally under rated and under represented. A sad fuck, a shape shifting horror, a stranger in a strange land, a bereaved parent, Doing His Goddamn Best. AND sometimes a noir detective send up.
Anyway, speaking of comics.
5. Sandman: Dream of the Endless
Tumblr media
I am thrilled to be here in the year of our lord 2024 enthusing about and making friends over this scrunkly wet cat that I first encountered and dearly loved in high school. (I am more than halfway through my 30’s now, so it has been A WHILE). I’m counting Sandman and DC as separate affairs, sorry not sorry.
6. Our Flag Means Death: Izzy Hands
Tumblr media
Loved him even before S2, fascinated, I want to put him in a jar and shake him but also keep him safe forever. I am a little soured on the show after s2, but I have dressed up as Izzy and would gladly do so again so he belongs here.
7. Supergiant Hades: Achilles
Tumblr media
This SPECIFIC version of Achilles, who has died and continued growing through his pain and regrets and who is a surrogate parent to my BOI Zagreus, is. Fascinating. To me. I was so angry at first to find myself liking him as much as I did! It’s masterful how much characterization Supergiant implies with relatively little. He’s coming after Izzy on the list bc I came to them both in similar ways, looking at myself falling in love and going oh my god HIM? Seriously? And being like yup that war criminal there is my son now!!! (And now of course I’m fond of him all across the mythological/classical board, oh my god Hadesgame what have you done.)
8. Star Wars: Alexsandr Kallus
Tumblr media
The only space nazi redemption arc I will accept. (Although I am watching Andor with friends right now and three double agent gingers across the begins to suggest a pattern which is very entertaining to me.)
Anyway A+ arc, love this bastard man, love his giant cat husband, single-handedly keeping me invested in Star Wars, hope his gay happy ending never gets messed with.
9. Les Miserables: Inspector Javert
Tumblr media
Another character that I went oh my god REALLY??? That Guy??? About. But he’s so /funny/ in the Brick and Stars is lovely enough that I learned how to play barre chords on my guitar Just For That and look. Look. He is a bastard but he is MY bastard and I will read every redeemed!Javert fic that crosses my path forever the end. (Also a side note: Kallus was originally sold to me by @lokivangelist as “space Javert”)
10. The Witcher: Dandelion/Jaskier (all versions, but repping Hexer below because that’s my favorite!!!)
Tumblr media
Throwing a curveball for the last slot! I’ve got a sad dad/monochrome aesthetic/loyal right hand/shapeshifting nonhuman/rigid worldview kinda pattern happening above, and my boi here slip slides away from almost all of those. Except for the loyalty. This man is an absolute ride or die for Geralt and I love that about him. He is also an obnoxious fuckboi but I love that too, especially in a story as heavy as the Witcher frequently can be. (My runner up for this fandom was gonna be book!Lambert, who is similarly narratively savvy and good at puncturing the heaviness of a scene without being straight up comic relief.)
There they are! Ten blorbos, I climbed that whole mountain and now I’m heading to bed. (Will tag folks tomorrow perhaps? But also feel free to invite yourself in and do this and say I tagged you if you like, because I am curious what my mutuals and etc . might choose!)

i like the tumblr mando community a lot more because it's interactive and usually more chill but you guys are being hella fucking debbie downers this season and it's pissing me off
we know the show isn't fucking andor. it never was. this show has always been kind of silly and doesn't take itself too seriously. the season isn't over yet. why are we jumping to "oh so the darksaber meant nothing" and "din is getting phased out of his own show" and shit? like i know they make some weird writing choices for sure but this is all clearly going somewhere and you're all acting like each new episode is the finale and whatever happens happens forever and for good and with no further consequences or development.
last night's episode was FUN. we had callbacks to season 1. we had jokes. we had din being center-stage again and showing off his brilliant character and diplomacy skills. the plot is scuttling forward. we had very, very fun violence multiple times throughout the episode. what's the fucking problem? what are you watching this show for if you're going to find a reason to talk about how much you hate every single new episode?
is being a hater not SO exhausting? have you forgotten how to have fun with the silly space cowboy show?

after the little saw gerrera reference in todays andor episode i just want to get ahead and admit this before he shows up—i am 100% a saw gerrera apologist. my boy never did anything wrong <3
seriously though, there’s way too many anakin apologists out there and not enough saw gerrera apologists. yes anakin had a rough life and so there’s emotional/mental reasons for his actions, I do feel bad for anakin, but saw also has similar excuses.
one simple difference between them though makes saw obviously more justified than anakin in the bad things he does. the difference is that saw is a good guy and he’s on the good side. when vader/anakin slaughters a bunch of innocent children it is done to help a oppressive fascist dictatorship commit its first genocide. every bad thing anakin does as darth vader is to serve evil. when saw kills innocent people or does something morally questionable, it is still ultimately done to fight oppression. do I agree with all his actions? no. but he is much more warranted in using violence to fight violence than anyone in the empire is in using violence to enforce order.
saw may have done some terrible things in the name of the rebellion, but ultimately the rebellion likely wouldn’t have succeeded without him. he was instrumental in the fight for freedom and ultimately died a galactic hero.
also if im completely honest i just like forest whitaker

I've been reading your reviews and comments on Andor and MAN I am living for this series. And I'm glad how it feels (in my Old man's terms) like how the original series felt. The Nitty Gritty side and just how it feels more alive and real than what other series have been. Hats off to Diego Luna
YES the world feels so lived in, the threat of the Empire and all its cronies is so close by, the world feels so alive for it. there's the clearly stated results of the empire (the raid on the village) with the less clearly stated (the forms of communication that they have with each other--I have a feeling that hammer guy will be coming back for more than just a clock in/out bell).
and even the fact that they chose hard laborers was such a good choice. if people had been the vague shop owners and tinkerers that star wars loves so much, it would lose part of its tangibility. these people wake up, go to a massive dangerous ship yard, and then go home when they're done. They don't seem absolutely poor, but there's no way none of them are tired.
its gritty because we see someone get punched in the face and have a resulting bruise (which is so minor it feels silly, but seriously). its nitty and gritty because nit every surface and artice of clothing is clean and straight edge and clearly disinfected. It's not sanitzing the lives of poor, oppressed people, and I really appreciate the fact that they're not.

A bit more of a fun ask from my last one,
So, post (very post) possession story, Sparklez and Tom get back from their isles side story and it takes almost a month for Jordan to find out that Capsize is alive and kicking. Someone lets it slip (not that they’ve been keeping that from him, it’s just never come up in convo and Capsize is lowkey avoiding him)
“Oh if you wanna know more about that you should ask Capsize.”
“….ask Capsize?”
“Yea you could probably find her with Spark or Alyssa or—“
“She’s Alive???”
“…”
And Jordan goes to Spark and finds Capsize there, fishing or playing cards like just being friendly, and the interaction between him and Capsize gets intense really quickly. Jordan ends up calling “Trial!” because Capsize implied that the S.S Jerry sinking had something to do with her. This turns into a courtroom drama with Spark as Capsize’s lawyer and Andor as Jordan’s.
Because when your items are stolen or your base griefed well then ya better call conway!
I’ve pitted the man who wrote the book on dagrun law vs the guy who abided by it, so it ends with them just arguing Dagrun laws even tho none if any are applicable in the s1 realm.
Who’s the judge? I don’t know because if you make it Ianite she definitely suffers from Capsize favoritism (it’s chronic), so she’d be biased. But they definitely have a jury of their peers made up of everyone else.
I… I just love this so much. This whole situation is so funny and it's great.
The idea of Jordan just not realising Capsize is alive because she's been avoiding him is so funny but genuinely in character for both of them. Jordan is completely baffled by the fact that no one thought to mention this, meanwhile Capsize is really worrying that Jordan might still be really misinterrupting their relationship and is just not in the mood for that. And yeah, that first interaction is going to be so awkward, even before the arguing starts.
As for the whole trial, I can definitely see Jordan wanting one and then getting annoyed that Capsize is not taking it seriously at all. Mostly because Jordan had something to do with her original ship sinking so sinking one of his should be fair game. Spark has told her that she can't say that out loud, but like she sees no consequences even if she's found guilty of this.
Spark and Andor being the lawyers is so funny because I imagine the one major change to the laws since Spark left (other than the whole Mianite being the one true god thing) is that the death penalty was introduced for so many petty crimes. Despite this not being an important difference because they aren't going to kill Capsize even if she is guilty, Spark is just a bit concerned about what the hell happened.
I guess the judge would end up being Jeriah? Maybe Mianite if they manage to actually get him to show up for this nonsense. I can't think of anyone else they could argue not having a bias. The jury is definitely just there to be entertained by the mess that's unfolding.
For a couple of stupid ideas of that could happen: -- Capsize insisting any crimes she commited before being revived no longer count because she died between then and now. -- Everyone really insisting that they thought Jordan knew Capsize was alive. -- Multiple discussions about if certain people should really be on the jury because they they clearly have a bias towards one of the two, with the decision being that the biases end up balancing each other out.

top 10 sw hot takes mwahahah
i don’t know if these are hot takes but 😭
star wars needs fat characters in mainstream canon that aren’t comic relief or villains
jon favreau is overrated
david filoni is overrated
thrawn’s characterization is consistent throughout timz’s books (canon and legends) and rebels - oh THIS is definitely a hot take kdbdkdh
fanon isn’t canon lol
adjacent to 1, what the hell is up with the fatphobia in andor (i’m glad that i didn’t notice any in the latest couple episodes)
the high republic books, comics & audio dramas have SO MUCH that sw fans wish for in other media and it’s a shame not more people keep up with THR
the ‘korkie kenobi’ thing needs to die please i beg
not watching a show that needs views just because the reviews for it are better than for a different show you loved is petty and counter productive (yeah this is about andor and kenobi) (seriously guys just because the reviews for andor are great doesn’t mean many people are watching it)
uh no that’s it i can’t think of anything else right now oop
thank you!!! 💙

Thoughts on Diego Luna Super Spy: The Series
Things I am Loving, a non-exhaustive and spoiler free list:
Stellan Skarsgaard's American accent. It is very Harrison Ford-esque
Fiona Shaw being Fiona Shaw
Bee
Diego Luna running around and having the Absolute Worst Day
Brasso
Blue lo mein
The Clock Tower Drummer, jamming to his tunes
Things I am NOT Loving, a mostly shouty and largely spoiler free list but you have been warned:
IF SOMEONE DOES NOT EXPLAIN WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN KENARI, I AM GOING TO FLIP A TABLE. IYKYK Why would you do that?? I am going to obsess over that instead of the Stellan and Diego Adventures in Spy Craft, which is what I'm SUPPOSED to be obsessing over.
I was never a fan of Czerka Corp in the games (I am so very bad at being bad in KOTOR) but after spending time with Evil Space Amazon, I feel like I have a much better idea of what it was like working with the East India Company and uhm... YIKES. SO MANY YIKES.
Timm. Aside from the fact that Timm is about as deep as a teaspoon and twice as cliched (Jealous of the hot ne'er do well who your would-be-girlfriend/boss clearly can't stand but puts up with for Reasons(tm)? Seriously? We couldn't come up with something better?) WHY DID YOU GIVE HIM THAT NAME? I HAVE CO-WORKERS NAMED TIM. WHAT'S NEXT? SOMEONE NAMED MATTHEW? GREETING, LORD VADER. I AM CAPTAIN MATTHEEWW OF THE CRUISER BLOODY KNIFE. SERIOUSLY. WTF?
Sergeant British Space Empire. Jesus Christ. Oh my god please don't keep this guy around.
Anyone hurting Bee. You know what you did Space Ramsey Bolton No seriously. He looks just like that actor. Only like the American version of him. AND HE MADE BEE SAD
Anyway, three episodes down and nine to go!
Oh! Spoiler tags will be #Andor #Andor Spoilers and more to come if I can think of something witty.

tucker did then repeatedly murder jordan in the courthouse doorway while andor stared at them
andor, three months into their actual friendship: i have a question about. you and your friends
jordan: our friends, but shoot.
andor: okay- um- okay, wow, that's kind of you- but no um. do you guys just like.... kill each other often? or-
jordan: yeah, for shits and giggles. we used to do it so much that the gods had enough of our bullshit and told us we could only do it once a week for a couple hours, otherwise we'd be put to a trial of our peers to see if it was justified.
andor: that's why you didn't take the trial seriously?
jordan: yeah, that shit didn't matter. i'd steal apples again too. i have been. often.
andor: oh for fuck's- steve would let you.
jordan: steve would, yeah, but i don't respect martha and martha and steve have A Thing, so it's less about steve and more about martha.
andor: you make no sense.
jordan: and you're my friend anyways.

Star Wars Thoughts as fragmeted as my veiwing of Empire at work today
frankly, star wars needs to embrace some of the 70's-80's corniness. I think Self-Seriousness is something that is very much possible to have your cake and eat it too.
i honesty don't know if corny is the right word for it, but there is somthing i love about how Han just dresses like a normal guy, and Lando is the *only* person who dresses like that. Also, slightly less related, but Luke is just a normal name, which is great. there's more but it's not coming to me rn
There should be a side character who is literaly just Yoda before he reveals that he's Yoda. NOT JARJAR. jarjar is a bumbling idiot with way too much screentime. Yoda is introduced as a perfectly fine little goober
Also the special edition is so annoying, they should the original as well, at very least for the sake of art preservation.
the production value in Empire is so good, ohmygosh. Envornments and set pieces are something the newer Star Wars movies do very well, but i think Star Wars is simmilar to the MCU in that it could benifit from some smaller scale, lower budget stories. I just stared Andor, I know it lives up to that

Finished watching Andor, woo!
It's was fine.
So the action climax of the prison arc was episode 10, and it was good, but then episode 11 was filler. Seriously it was like instead of prepping for the finale, everything stopped for padding; the biggest example is the scene in Narkina 5 outside the prison, nothing happens, Andor and the other guy are barely stopped, and kinda ruined the impact of the prison break, you know everyone jumping to freedom it's very evocative, but then that scene kinda brings it down to Earth. So, my brother and I were talking about Andor and Star Wars; Star Wars is a fantasy show, that's not just in the way things are magical but the structure itself, it's bit like a fairy tale; in the first movie you have the 2 droids that are like goblins or golems, the wizard, the black knight, the princess, literal divine intervention in the climax; the second one has the fight in the belly of the beast, twice; but Andor isn't like that, it's not magical, and the Narkina 5 scene is the example, we have the jump to freedom which is very symbolic, very evocative, and then we get the real life consequence of doing that and it kills the symbolism; honestly it should've cut straight to the beach planet where Andor hid his stuff, it would've been better
I rather liked the final episode, but watching it I was like "why are all these characters here?" Why is Syril and his second hand here? Why are Luthen and Mothma's cousin here? What's the point of the other rebel lady, the girlfriend? The Imperial Lady has stuff to do, but it's barely. That's generally a problem with this show, it has a bunch of characters and they don't do much, what's the point of Mothma? by the end it almost seems that it's to sell her daughter to that banking guy, like freaking Game of Thrones. What's the point of Luthen, what is his motivation, also yeah, why was Andor so important in the first place?
The biggest problem with Andor is the pacing, it's not just that it needed more aggressive editing, it's that the show kinda stops, twice. After the heist in Aldhani, Andor leaves the Rebellion and goes to the beach where he gets arrested for no reason, while I enjoy it on a thematic level, on a structural level it feels like hitting the pause button on his development to send him to jail. And the show hits pause again on episode 11, this time for everyone
Okay, the space battle, I liked it even though it wasn't good; I didn't realize I needed that until I saw it, and it made me realize Andor is lacking the 3 core Star Wars elements: Aliens, spaceships and magic. We finally get aliens with lines in episode 11, and not only are they in an entirely unnecessary scene, they're more like the trolls from The Hobbit (the book) than people. Spaceships, again it took 11 episodes for Andor to show dogfights. Magic doesn't just mean the Force, it's the fairy tale/fantasy element I mentioned earlier; Andor is trying to be cyberpunk when Star Wars is fantasy (my brother argues that it's High Fantasy, but I'm not sure I'd go that far)
Oh yeah, the other thing that bothered me; Maarva, Andor's mom, is apparently an important member of society, would've been nice to establish that early; this last arc seems to be a lot about Ferrix and the people, but we've barely seen them, never mind seen them be a community, it's like there's a lot of things that should've been established earlier but weren't. In a way it reminds of me Kamen Rider Gaim, in which the Finale matches the beginning of the show, but not the previous 5 episodes, like the wrote the beginning and the end, but not the middle.
To finish, I know I sound very negative of Andor, but I don't hate it, I kinda like it, at times, pacing aside it's not a bad show; what happens is that people said a lot of things about this show that aren't true and it's annoying. They said it was more adult than other Star Wars shows, it isn't; they said you see the Empire be evil more, you don't; it's really no different than any other Star Wars show, like Rebels. I know I've compared it to Rebels a lot before, but it's because Andor is basically the same show as Rebels, but in Rebels you see the way the Empire impacts the every day life of the people of Lothal, you see the characters have a connection with their community, you get the tragic backstory of everyone, you see the Empire enslaving a bunch of Chewbaccas including an adorable baby Chewbacca; in Andor you don't get to see the Empire massacring innocent people until the very end, when they riot (this by the way is uncomfortable to me because we haven't been shown the negative impact of the Empire's presence on Ferrix until they rebel, so it kinda looks like it's saying it's the Rebellion's fault and not that violent repression is the default mode of the Empire)
My brother has the theory that people who claim Andor is the best thing on Disney+ is because they're comparing it with Rings of Power; and I'm not as positive because I'm comparing it with Rebels
