Idea for the Moth in Hisui thing with the issue of the ArcPhone, one of two things to help fix it: Either a magic scroll that acts like Tom Riddles Diary from Chamber of Secrets, or...Arceus would enter his dreams in another form to ensure he didn't get suplexed by Markoth mistaking him for being the Radiance.

Both are weird, but I hope these can help with getting an idea about the arcphone conundrum?

Both aren't bad suggestions at all tbh, another thought I had would be a modified tablet like the ones Ghost encounters that refer to Higher Beings - since written tablets are already a thing in Hollow Knight. Except like, a small portable one that receives text messages.

Part of me also just wants to use the ArcPhone itself for funny points, because he's not got a clue what this device is or how it works - and Arceus trying to text this man who has never seen such a structure before would just be really funny-

I'd say watch the official animations, read the comics, peruse the game update pages on the official site cuz they of course hold some good shit (you can get to most of these by reading the side comics if i remember correctly, at the end it'll show a button that takes you to the update page for that particular comic)

Besides these, i don't know of any other canonical lore sources (for more canon info, maybe watch videos that explain the full background of the characters, they'll include tidbits that the previous sources dont).

After these, from my experience, it's just all fan content, of which there is an ungodly amount (game came out in like 2007 so you'll never get left with nothing). They inform you about the community more, while also fulfilling your blorbo needs.

Gather ‘round, it is time once again for Tyto’s 3 a.m. fic recs~

I dove into AO3 looking for vampire fic because,,, you know, and among the many quality fics for the new tv series, I stumbled on one that was actually written prior to the show’s debut.

It starts out more or less the same as book canon, with Louis becoming a vampire in the 1790s and Lestat moving into Louis’ estate outside New Orleans. Then it’s revealed that this version of Louis, while light-skinned, is actually mixed race. With all the worst accompanying historical baggage that goes with... that.

The story... diverges from there.

It’s written with intense care in regards to historical context and sensitivity, while still confronting uncomfortable topics. If you want a fic that actually addresses the whole “protagonist of the story owned a goddamn plantation” thing unflinchingly, then this is the fic to read.

Also includes an A+ portrayal of Louis and Lestat’s fraught communication problems, Louis’ unceasing struggle with mental health (and the whump that comes of that), and--believe it or not--a happy ending!

#fic rec #IwtV #the ending--the last half chapter or so--felt a LITTLE abrupt to me. but that's my only real criticism #in all honesty though it touches on some really heavy subjects so mind the content warnings #and not just with the racial stuff although that part definitely plays a major part #like I know every Loustat fic includes elements of Catholic guilt but the homophobia (internalized and otherwise) is very prominent as well #I swear there's happy stuff in this fic too though lol. the domesticity of it all is extremely heartwarming by the end #and not to spoil too much but this happy ending is set AFTER they make Claudia so. y'know. she's part of the story too 👀 #OH BTW there are 11 chapters listed but the fic only really has 10. #the last page is instead a selection of ''Required Reading'' on the issues and history and intersectionality explored in the story lmao #so you know the writers were serious about trying to do it justice

So I was today years old when I found out that It Had to Be You has a Christmas themed sequel and I’m in awe. Personally, I prefer canon compliants stories, but your AUs are really, really good and I think IHTBY is probably my favorite sokkla modern setting. Do you think you’ll come back to it? Not now of course, I suppose you’re too busy with Gladiator. But maybe someday in the far future we could know how was the Christmas Eve in which Sokka’s parents got to meet Azula’s family.

Sooo... yeah. IHTBY has a Christmas sequel that was never finished because I am a bit hopeless about fully committing to writing it. I've made occasional progress with it, there's at least one scene and a half more than what I posted when I did (maybe there's more and I just don't remember?), and I should definitely finish it someday, but I'm, again, a bit hopeless and get dragged into certain other life-consuming ventures that then distract me entirely from this particular AU I'm very fond of.

I like canon compliance/divergence quite a lot, too. It's really fun to see how different certain stories can be when you change just a small element to create something different, no matter how similar to the original concept it may turn out to be. But strangely, I've reeeeally found myself enjoying the modern AUs I've written ever since I wrote IHTBY? I've never been the sort to dislike modern AUs on principle, it can be fun to explore them, but I definitely didn't anticipate that I'd have that much fun writing them. IHTBY was written in less than one week because I was sooo possessed by the idea that I couldn't focus on anything else until I finished it. It really had a spark of something special that I've hoped to capture in my other modern AUs, too.

But yeah, I'd definitely love to finish exploring how things turn out in this story. I have a pretty clear idea on where it would go next, but I would definitely have to make myself do it. One day, hopefully :D
