#The chairs are really playing significant roles in their character
Text
More in depth analysis about the Spy x Family Manga Cover Chairs and Bonus Artworks (Or me just overthinking Endo’s decisions in everything and as always long post, please bear with me)
So I wanted to talk about something that I noticed about the various designer chairs that is featured on all manga covers.
Endo did say that he thought about how each chair matches the personality of the character, regarding it’s style, design or the color.
But I like to talk about something different about the chairs-it’s size or the seating capacity and how it reflects the characters relationship with others or their views about relationships. Also, I’m going to share something significant about the comedic bonus arts that also feature the chairs.
This focus mainly about Loid, Yor and Anya‘s Chair (including Fiona’s Chair) and the bonus illustrations that came with it.
Volume 1-Loid’s Chair: Le Corbusier LC2
Tumblr media
There are two versions of this chair in the manga/anime, the love seat and the one seater. Loid is seated in the one seater chair in this cover, it means no one can sit there with him that reflects how reluctant he was in letting other people in his life. He wasn’t open for relationships (You can notice that those who are like him, intelligence assets; Franky, Fiona, Handler all sit in one seating capacity chair).
Tumblr media
The bonus artwork was Anya sitting on the chair copying his pose. She’s the most fitting person to be in this seat because she can see through Loid’s mind, she basically knows who he really is and she likes him for that. Anya was fond of spies and she was excited about being part of his mission.
Volume 2-Anya’s Chair: Marshmallow Sofa
Tumblr media
Anya’s chair has a large seating capacity and she was sitting at the middle, waiting for the empty spots on her both sides to be occupied. This depicts Anya’s anticipation for forming relationship with other people, about her wanting parents, a family, to be there for her.
Tumblr media
The bonus artwork was drunk Yor lying face flat on Anya’s chair. This artwork, for me, reflects Yor’s unwavering affection for Anya and Anya’s appreciation of Yor. Even drunk, she’s determined to protect her, as if she was her real daughter as seen during the castle chapter. She is fond of Anya.
Volume 3-Yor’s Chair: La Chaise (Featuring Fiona’s Heart Cone Chair)
Tumblr media
This is the chair I wanted to talk about and I have to use Fiona’s Chair for this analysis for Endo said that Fiona is designed to be Yor’s contrast and we can clearly see it in their chairs.
The seating capacity of Yor and Fiona’s chair greatly differ. Yor’s chair was big, Endo pointed how it didn’t even fit the cover, and even though Fiona’s chair is big too, she’s the only person who could sit in it. Other people can fit Yor’s chair but not with Fiona. I analyze this as Yor being open to genuine relationships and selfless while Fiona being closed off and selfish.
Tumblr media
We know Yor’s motivation for being an assassin was for Yuri, for the sake of other people, and what is Fiona’s motivation? Clearly it was mainly for Twilight to marry her, love her and it was evidently show with all that stuff hiding behind her chair. I’m sure she experienced a lot of traumatic stuff that led to her being a spy but I don’t see other praise worthy and selfless motivations from her that was aside Twilight’s affection. Don’t get me wrong, she’s an interesting character and she isn't a bad person but I’m not really a fan of her personality just like I don’t like Yuri’s obsession with her sister.
In Yor however, she has nothing under or behind her chair. Just that blood that wasn’t even behind or below her chair. She wasn’t faking anything about her personality. It’s true that she accepted her marriage to preserve her assassin job but she genuinely wanted to marry Loid because he was the one who acknowledged her selflessness and that was enough for her to completely entrust her life to him. She welcomed Loid and Anya to her life because her longing for a companion to share her life with is as big as the size of her chair.
Tumblr media
The bonus art in Volume 3 was Loid sitting on her chair. Despite the comedic set up of these illustrations, I think the people who tend to sit on the chair on the bonus arts were the ones who gets the person on the cover the most.
That is why Anya is in Loid’s (Because she can read his mind) Why Yor is in Anya's (Because Yor lost her parents at a young age too and she knows how to care for Anya because she did that to Yuri) and why Loid is in Yor’s chair (Because Loid understood her self sacrifice because he too, is the same as her) Also why Anya and Bond are in the bonus of Volume 4 because the two of them get each other, being both experimented on.
Tumblr media
I also have some analysis about Volume 5-12 and the bonus artworks as well, but I might post them in another time since I haven't seen the translated bonus artworks in Becky and Emile and Ewen's Volumes.
But let me know if this analysis makes sense to you.

I found every time the bike sound effect plays! Other than the original, it only appears in season four (trust me I checked every season). I’ve made two other posts about this before (here and here) and I finally found all of them! Here are my thoughts and theories about this:
I definitely think this sound effect has something to do with Vecna's presence and revisiting past trauma. A majority of the scenes are related to NINA and the others are when characters remember something traumatic. Max has a nightmare about Billy, Nancy is reminded of Barb when Fred goes missing, and Nancy sees Barb's corpse. They’re being reminded of trauma. The bike is a symbol for Will’s disappearance (a traumatic event) so I think they’re using this bike sound effect to hint that Vecna is the one who took Will.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To quote Max, they've been telling us Vecna's plan the whole time. The bike sound is basically Will's clock chimes. They’re telling us that Vecna took Will and this is why his bike is in the posters for every season, even when it doesn't quite fit. Will's bike felt out of place in the California poster since Will doesn’t really address that trauma this season. Are they putting significance on this bike to lead us to the sound effect? Other characters do remember portions of Will’s disappearance when they enter the Upside Down, though. It all comes back to Will.
Another reason this effect might be playing is because Will needs to experience his own NINA about the week he was in the Upside Down. Why have this sound play surrounding characters revisiting trauma? They need to revisit the traumatic event that started it all. We never found out what it was like for Will in the UD. Is this because it's a sensitive topic for Will? Or does he not remember? He may need to have his memories revived like El did.
I didn't adjust the volume to make it easier to hear because the sound effect seems to get louder as the episodes go on and I think this is important. It gets louder as El gets closer to the truth about Vecna.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's interesting how the sound plays twice when Nancy is in Vecna's mind lair. The lines above are said just before and just after the sound effect plays. Being different and getting close to the truth. Will's big moment of the season is admitting that he is different so there has to be a connection here. The truth they’re getting close to is that Vecna took Will. But why did he take him? Is it because Will is different? Maybe Will is different in the same way Henry is... powers?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few of the scenes have parallels to Will as well. Max and Will both wake up from a nightmare caused by Vecna.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Nancy notices Fred disappeared, Max's dog starts barking. This dog looks quite similar to Will's dog who also barked when Will disappeared. So there are two instances where a dog barks when someone disappears. This also connects to my theory that Vecna was recreating Will’s disappearance (here).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sound plays just before we see Mr. Wallace being interrogated by the government people searching for El. He is tied to a chair with bright lights surrounding him just like Will was when they were interrogating him!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bike plays when El is singled out by Brenner to spin the light. Could this be related to how Vecna singled out Will to kidnap him? Both Will and El spin lights in a circle as well.
There may be more parallels that I missed but the ones I found show a clear connection, it all comes back to Will. The reveal that Vecna took Will is going to play a huge role in how they defeat Vecna because Will is the key. This sound effect is easing us into this reveal.

So things are very changed now, so I was wondering, do you think it's possible for things to magically go back to the way they were before like Hanako-kun going back to being the 7 mystery and Tsukasa being his yorishiro? Or will this reality simply never exist again? So this means this could be tbhk's last arc, but it feels like there are still so many questions left unanswered 😢
I think you, and, other people panicking, really need to stop and take a breather, and remember how... stories work. How narratives operate.
even a mediocre and poorly planned shounen manga would typically not suddenly pivot in the middle and retcon everything! Do you think JSHK appears poorly-planned or made-up-on-the-spot? PERSONALLY, in my experience with AidaIro's works, they have a TON of integrity with regard to story themes and character motivations. Iro-sensei really, REALLY desires for readers to come to UNDERSTAND characters. Iro-sensei was a sobbing mess on the publication of JSHK, because they were scared people would not LIKE it, and thus, they would not get to continue to unfold the story. They LIKE their characters a LOT! They want you to UNDERSTAND Yugi Amane, Yugi Tsukasa, Yashiro Nene, etc etc!! Deeply, and truly!
While a lot of shounen are filled with nonsense-of-the-week and neverending organizations of dozens of villains showing up without connection or significance, I would argue that JSHK has none of that. We've been on the same exact journey from the very beginning: we want to understand Yugi Amane, and we want to save him.. .whatever that means.
You need to lean back in your chair and let AidaIro-sensei whisk you away! You need to trust that it will take time, but, that there are answers in AidaIro-sensei's notebooks to everything.
No, the story isn't ending right now! No, that reality is not gone!
To me, this kind of panic is like....
if Picture Perfect began, and you worried, "oh no, Hanako-kun is our villain now, we're fighting him, will he ever be our hero again?" or "oh no, we're stuck in a fake reality... will we ever go back to the real world?"
Or, if during the Severance, you worried, "oh no, the near and far shore have been severed, will we never get in-school shenanigans ever again?" "oh no, Aoi is dead for good..."
In reality, this arc-- like every arc-- is going to be a way for you and I to see new angles on the characters we love.
We already knew Yugi Amane created an aberrant future, and we were intrigued by the notion of school teacher Amane from the 'original' timeline. Finally, we are going to SEE that timeline. If we DIDN'T do this, we'd feel something was missing! Everyone has long been curious about THIS reality! We've been desperate, haven't we?? We've been wishing to understand this thing described in VOLUME 3. This isn't scary at all, it's satisfying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're finally here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To have a fully rounded perspective on the Yugi twins, we need to see this world. For Nene-chan to truly understand HER Amane, she needs to grasp WHAT EXACTLY AMANE DID to CREATE the reality she has been in up until now. We're literally going to investigate the EXACT MOMENT that leads to "Hanako-kun", our lover lol. Until we know that, do we really know "Hanako-kun" at all?
Personally, I want Nene-chan to be INVOLVED in the CREATION of that reality we love. I want to know what role Tsukasa plays in all of it, too.
The reality we have been in was someone's choice! We won't understand the gravity and precision of that choice without seeing it FIRSTHAND. This is not a SCARY event, this is a RELIEVING event-- we will gain perspective!! Nobody should be afraid of that, seriously!
This is what we, the readers, want! And this is how AidaIro-sensei want to show it to us. Very directly!!
We're all very curious about the shinjuu, the Yugi twin's past. What if we could go to that moment, and SEE it? What if Nene-chan could witness it? What if she could set it into motion? These are the kinds of things to be potentially looking forward to.
The manga is called "Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun". We would never do away with "Hanako-kun". That's self-evident!

Jay Park (Enhypen) Relationship Role Analysis based on Tarot Reading
Hello and welcome!
I’m Kleo and I’m here to present some k-pop related tarot readings to you.
Disclaimer:
I would like to state that all these readings have a purely entertainment nature and their purpose is to bring some fun into my and hopefully yours lives. I have never ever met any of the idols / actors / celebrities in my readings, I don’t know them personally. Tarot reading isn’t an exact science and I can never guarantee any of it. Most of it is my intuition mixed with fantasy. Don’t take these readings seriously and don’t base any important decisions on tarot readings only, use your common sense.
If you wish to request a tarot reading, please read the pinned post on my profile first to see the instructions on how to request. I only do readings for idols / actors / celebrities of 18 years of age or older. Requests for readings including younger people will be automatically dismissed. Jay Park
(Jay - Enhypen)
Deck: E. A. Poe
Spread: Relationship Role
Friend - Ace of Swords, Page of Wands
When it comes to friendship, Jay is oozing youthful energy. He’s likely to often come up with new adventurous activities to pursue with his gang. He’s a curious mind and will lead his friends to explore what the world has in store for them. His natural endearing charm is impossible to resist.
Boyfriend - II The High Priestess, King of Wands
When it comes to dating, Jay is running this show and his significant other should respect that. Jay has excellent intuition when it comes to judging people and their character, it’s very unlikely he would ever fall for a fake person or a toxic one. He's a charming, passionate and encouraging type of boyfriend. Jay might sometimes forget about good manners, though, holding the door or chair for his partner or helping them to put a coat on might be out of his radar.
Lover - XI Justice, Page of Pentacles
As said before, Jay has exceptional instincts when it comes to people. It’s likely for him to take every relationship seriously and the physical side is a part of that. Jay will prefer a lover who’s equally passionate and on the same wave as him. He always plays fair and his partner will never have to be afraid of him cheating. That applies vice versa, though. Jay isn’t possessive but lies and cheating are against his core morals and if he reveals betrayal, he will cut all strings attached to a deceitful lover.
Husband - IX The Hermit, XIII The Death
Marriage might not be the best institution for Jay at the moment. He’s not really a fan of it, as it seems. Jay would approach a marriage as an act of pure moral if it came to it. He wouldn’t feel happy about it, though and if there were any feelings for his spouse before the wedding, those would vanish afterwards. Jay would likely close up and avoid his spouse, blaming them for imprisoning him.
One-Night-Stand - V The Hierophant, 2 of Cups
As said before, Jay is a moral man. He despises one night stands from the moral point of view. He’s also a romantic and the idea of a random lover is completely out of the question for him.
Thank you for reading!

Jubilee
Tumblr media
First thing first, Jubilee shows you the realism of the Bombay talkies era with an interval by building huge and royal studios, cinema reels, crew chairs, hand painted posters, an ambitious producer with business acumen, smoking pipe, outfits, and so much more. The series in itself is quite symbolic for the purpose of depicting the golden era. Yes, I call it a golden era. I read the show is pretty much inspired by the life of Himanshu Rai and Devika Rani. Let’s kickstart.
Praise worthy angles from the entire series that are responsible for the story:
Blazing journeys of 5 characters Roy, Binod, Jay, Niloufer, Walia
The unparalleled fate of 2 studios Khanna studio and Roy studio
The transformations, transitions, and evolving cinema with a blend of crime, love, conspiracy and fame.
Beginning, Rise and Fall
It is commendable to see how the makers combined the most essential attributes of the black and white cinema - Dialogues, Music, Drama and great frames.
The 3 compelling dialogues that summarize Cinema which are crafted beautifully in the film with the scene,
'Power is within this weapon of cinema.'
'Cinema can raise a level by giving the audience a taste of poetry, photography, music and aspirations.'
'Cinema can empower people.'
Let us put the stars on the shoulders of the team. Vikramaditya Motawane, Atul Sabharwal and Soumik Sen are the names. I should say, a gorgeous job on the series by all the teams.
Supposedly it has to be one of the most expensive projects as it costs a fortune to build a city entirely. Especially a city which used to look a certain way but not any more. It is bound to attract criticism, comparisons and judgements. Hence applause for the art department.
Moving to the title, Jubilee. Good one. The word Jubilee was significant in the non-bollywood era. It marked a big success of the film if it reaches Jubilee unlike the crore club where films are less than 2 stars but box office is 200 cr.
Vikramaditya Motawane has created a web series that is uncommon among current subjects. Lots of makers tried to recreate the golden era but most of them went unnoticed. I am fond of Khoya Khoya Chand for the infamous vintage era. However, reaching everybody through OTT through Jubilee with a 10 episode series of 50 minutes is a master thought. That breathing space to judge the success with an olden times ‘interval’ but of a week is outstanding. However, such a big risk.
Mentioning positives of the show to move with. It has a decent Star cast that is not very glittering and glam. Subtle and real. When you cut on the star factor you can actually see through the show and its potential. So I liked the cast to portray that era. Apararshakti Khurana as one of the leads is huge. Names to mention: Wamiqa Gabbi and Prosenjit Chatterjee. I am all praises for Wamiqa Gabbi. Simply Wow. She is a complete package of dance, acting, nakharas, ada and reality. An actress who very clearly takes you to the era of queens like Waheeda Rehman, Mala Sinha, Nutan and the list goes on. She does not imitate anybody. Prosenjit Chatterjee, an innovative and ahead of his time producer who wants to make a mark but probably wishes to stick to what sells on screen with a traditional cinema perspective. The curiosity that both Roy and Niloufer go on building in their own way is really good. Sidhant Gupta’s energy matches the character’s but his acting felt an over-do at times. But when he walks as a star is one act you can’t miss but notice. It shows a mix of stardom and simplicity. Great work there. He is the Guru Dutt effect as a one man show with actor-director qualities. Aditi Rao Hydari is just being herself, a beauty. Ram Kapoor, Shweta Basu are names known for good acting just like that. All the supporting actors have done a celebrated job in their roles. Amazing to watch Arun Govil in a web series. The casting decisions are appreciable. The character Govil plays as a calm father is peaceful for the eyes and ears.
Music is magnificent. Thanks to Amit Trivedi for giving one more album that can be put on loop. The compositions of jubilee prove that even today a melody is possible with sensible ‘Hindi’ lyrics which are louder than the music and each word, chord and instrument is heard and worth a praise. Kudos to Amit Trivedi and Kausar Munir for creating songs that calm people like us can humm. My personal favourites are Voh Tere Mere Ishq, Dariyacha Raja, Na Koi Mera and Saare Ke Saare Akele. Rest you would not like to skip as well. It has the sound of the period it belongs to. The lyrics bear to our usual spoken Hindi language - simple and understood. I can’t put this more straight. Those days were about melody and dialogues that hit the audience.
Dialogues as expected are filled with drama and conviction.
Favourite frame from the series is Jay and Nilo sitting on the road drenched in the rain in front of a theatre under the poster of Baiju Awara. Splendid! You do not have to show intimacy by stripping down and making love. Sometimes it's just the way you sketch love on screen. Quite a romantic frame. Other Mesmerizing frames:
Binod first in front of the fire that also marks the end frame of Roy in front of fire.
Sumitra sitting in front of the mirror in the train.
Roy, sitting in his private screening theatre, calls the man to project the reel.
Jay Khanna in his own studio on the first day against the Taxi cut out.
The last shot of Roy studio with lights dimming symbolizing the fall.
Jay Khanna’s cabin with Taxi Driver Poster of Jay and Nilo.
And the favourite of many, the RK inspired Jay and Niloufer umbrella scene.
I am glad to see one series with no skin show, no kissing at every alternate shot and most importantly close to no violence. Every other show today is either lust or violence with litres of blood flowing. This series is like detox.
Some curiosity creeps in. Was Phone tapping really a thing? Would the show not be as captivating as it was if tapping was not a part of the show? Mysterious.
Coming to an end resembles a Guru Dutt film with a song like Dekhi Zamane ki Yaari. Saare ke Saare Akele went on flipping pages and how heartbreaking every page was!
Looking at Jubilee overall,
What’s remarkable is the tragic ending given to all the characters like most of the yesteryear actors saw. It is not a fictitious act of drama. We have heard stories where either people disappeared from the industry or their demise was not a very pleasant one or some love stories were not as happy as their film’s or their stardom just vanished with a flop. I admire the way fiction was weaved with the inside stories from the film industry. But across 10 episodes we saw a lot of screen time invested in long pauses. Not sure why the typical fame was not shown like ordinary fans gathering around Madan or crowds at the red carpets of premieres. No premieres at all actually. But the pre-independence period, partition and its effect on the cinema industry was precisely connected. The makers very smartly keep awards at bay as filmfare started in 1954 and this story wraps up by 1953. Also, the details that were very well shown were salaried crew, technicians and even actors associated with the studio, the refugee camps, international interventions and the editing on negatives of the reel. What is incredible to see is the grey shade every character gets with situations. It's meticulous writing.
All the characters had a closure but I wonder what happened to Shamsher Walia.
I was waiting for the last ‘The End’ or ‘समाप्त’ after we saw Interval post the 1st batch of 5 episodes. But that did not come. Another season in making? Giving benefit of doubt as the glorious era of cinema has just started in Jubilee. But I must say first is the only first. What follows is to piggyback on the popularity of last success. It loses its charm. I hope the makers continue the legacy if they plan seasons.
To end this I would say Jubilee gives you the pictorial version of the tales and accounts narrated by the legends and insiders. I will not deny that the series seems stretched or sluggish at times but I think establishing the actors and an entire past generation will take its own time.
Jubilee is a must watch for people who believe in the essence of cinema and Hindi film industry of yesterday. It is for obsessed film lovers who have not yet fallen prey to Bollywood’s faux stardom.

completely unrelated question to anything going on but have you ever seen cabaret? (either the 1972 movie or any of the musical productions (i.e. 1983 or 2014 with alan cumming))
ah, cabaret and i have a long and storied history. a difficult one in certain ways emotionally/thematically (never have i felt more like i was going to be sick in a theatre than at the punch that closes "if you could see her," which is exactly the point!), yet with songs that i adore and will listen to and sing around the house at the drop of a hat. i have seen the movie several times (and own it! bob fosse's direction, LIZA, joel grey, legends all), i own the soundtrack and the 1998 revival cast recording, i've seen a bootleg of an alan!emcee production though atm i cannot recall who played his sally (i've also seen pieces of michael c. hall's performance in the role), i've sung "maybe this time" onstage, and i've seen it live locally - it was following that perfectly marvelous production of cabaret that my mom and i had the car accident that ultimately ended my life as i knew it, we went specifically for my theatre class (my professor co-directed the production and i was going to write a paper on it, instead i had to drop out of college...something something start by admitting from cradle to tomb, it isn't that long a stay!). it has really weird significance in my life, my mom has trauma around it, but i still have this dark love and fascination towards it. kander and ebb's musical work for it is so genius (as of course it is for chicago too), everything fosse infused it with both on broadway and on film is so iconic that it's almost taken for granted what an influence he had (chair-eography, anyone?). that sharp contrast between the brightness of the facade and the terror and tragedy lurking everywhere beneath it, the inescapable cynicism choking the desperate desire for something more akin to hope. lady peaceful, lady happy, that's what i long to be...
if you truly want insight into my character - my fingernails are literally painted green at this very moment. if anyone should ask why, i'd say, "i think it's pretty. i think it's pretty, i reply!" sally bowles my manic beloved

I Still See You (2018)
Tumblr media
Released in theaters on October 12, 2018, I Still See You came and went without making an impression. With the teenage protagonists in the middle of a post-catastrophe world, you’ll wonder why at first. The Darkest Minds, The 5th Wave and Divergent all fizzled without their stories concluding but some people were clamouring for them. Could this be a YA-novel adaptation so bad it couldn't even find an audience among 13-year-olds?
In 2010, an explosion at Ashburn Laboratories creates a shockwave that kills hundreds. The deceased come back as non-sentient “remnants” (ghosts) who repeat some of their final moments every day. Ten years later, high school student Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Calder (Bella Thorne) is startled by a new (sexy) ghost (played by Thomas Elms) in her bathroom. Impossibly, this remnant writes “Run” in the steamed mirror before vanishing. Her favourite teacher, Mr. Bittner (Dermot Mulroney), doesn’t believe her but quiet loner Kirk Lane (Richard Harmon) does. Together, they follow the remnant's trail and discover it may be trying to attack her from the grave.
What we’ve got here is one of the most convoluted vehicles for a mystery I’ve ever seen. Let's begin with this world. Everyone drives slowly, not knowing if the old lady crossing the street is actually a human being, or the memory of one. Inside Ronnie’s home, there are always three chairs at the dinner table so her deceased father can appear unimpeded in the morning. I’m certain there are many awkward trips to the washroom where someone with a full bladder opens the door to find a phantom sitting on the toilet. Half of a couple in the middle of having sex is floating in a hotel bedroom. Passengers who died on a flight are zipping through the air high above us, etc. I know we're not supposed to think about that but you can't help it. You expect the film to be about Ronnie and Lane discovering a conspiracy behind the remnants or that perhaps since “Brian” wants to harm her, that all remnants are about to turn on humanity unless the explosion's cause is discovered. You’re way, way off. The remnants are not integral to the story except to explain how Ronnie saw that first ghost, and why she begins a quest for answers.
At 98 minutes, this is a short film, and a significant chunk is spent on information that's ultimately useless. In fact, the role remnants ultimately play in the story proves this never should've been a movie. I can't emphasize how superfluous the ghost thing is in the end but you get stuck on that angle. It's all you care about. We know the remnants are not - as previously stated - forced to simply relive their last moments in the same place as they lived them. Obviously, “Brian” and his sumptuous behind didn’t die in his underwear in Ronnie’s bathroom 10 years ago. This means remants can be anywhere, at any time. They can also be animals and from a time period which precedes the explosion. What the rules are, you don't know - but you want to. Makes you wonder what happens when two of them collide.
What this movie is REALLY about is the mystery. Too bad it's nonsense. It’s impossible for you to figure out what really happened to Brian and how Ronnie ties to him. Once you learn the truth, it’ll leave your head spinning. Hopefully, fast enough for you to stop asking questions - or so director Scott Speer hopes. There are so many seemingly random aspects to the enigma that is Brian. February 29th is an important date, and a crucial clue to what’s happening. Why an explosion-created ghost would care about leap years, I don’t know. It gets crazier as bodies pile up and time starts to run out. You wonder how all of these clues and characters we’ve been introduced to will fit together. Got a theory? I can tell you without hearing it; you're wrong.
I Still See You is ridiculous. Its story derails itself. The film feels like it was re-written to contain a supernatural element. When the ghost thing didn’t sell, they altered the recipe again to draw in fans of the post-apocalyptic YA genre. In the end, there are more misshapen ideas than fully realized ones. It’s so utterly bewildering I think you can have a lot of fun with it as long as you know it’s a bad movie ahead of time. (June 28, 2019)

I'm sure you're going to get Joseph for the character bingo so......Swamp Rat Frankenstein Magneto?
……I will be wearing the fact that I knew exactly who that was without clarification like a badge of shame.
Okay, so. Heisenberg Resident Evil.
Tumblr media
Free Space: NICK LIGHTBEARER MY BELOVED! He shares a VA with a character from We Happy Few! I feel like I should’ve guessed that, honestly; when I saw him in the trailer, for some reason I expected him to have a really thick western or southern accent, maybe because of the hat. But that voice actor does have a real talent for emotive, theatrical dialogue, which made the Lightbearer DLC one of the most memorable in the retinue and gave Heisenberg a believability that wasn’t guaranteed by his writing itself.
Heisenberg looms in the background of theoverarching narrative of RE8 very perceptibly, pulling strings behind the scenes throughout all three preceding regions. That in mind, I felt there was some wasted potential in terms of his contribution to the endgame narrative. For all the buildup around him and his role in the family, I think the story would've benefited from Heisenberg having a more significant role in the final arc of the game. There was something interesting going on with his whole revolutionary schtick, but after his boss fight he disappears from the narrative entirely. (Unless I’m mistaken, it’s been a while since I played.) Maybe the DLC will improve on that.
Maybe the DLC will also expand on the weirdness around his gameplan re: overthrowing Miranda in general. What the fuck does “use Rose’s power” mean, Karl? Are you gonna hook her up to your Chevy and run Miranda down with it? Stick her under an electric chair?
On that note: I love how hammy his dialogue is. "Let's settle this, mano e mano.” Fucking dork.
Also his model Joel Hicks is really hot. Like hideously. Profanely. Absurdly.
Minute character details are like catnip to me, and Heisenberg has them out the wazoo. The laziness reflected across the board, from the way he stands in the background smoking as his men dig up bodies in the concept art to the way he uses his magnetic abilities for everything, even things he could do easily. He stands like he’s half falling over from the effort. Love it.
His factory is one of the most well-designed sets in the entire game. It’s utterly disorienting, a maze of parts and creatures that blend into each other & overlap, but it also gives the appearance of being designed with a plan in mind; like it’s actually being used. The assembly line corpses, the vaulted ceilings, the x-rays on the walls, the red lights everywhere, the bodies of water interspersed with everything. “Dilapidated factory that’s been repurposed to produce mechanical zombies” is a very particular aesthetic, and RE8 made it work very well. I wanna run around touching everything.

It's always funny to me when people complain when awards shows have too many acting categories/slots per category because it doesn't mean that nobody was snubbed? Do people understand how many movies/tv shows come out every year? Even if the people everybody thought would get nominated got nominated there's still a bunch of people who were also in consideration that didn't get in.
Agree! I think the problem with the Globe categories isn't that there are too many, it's that they nominate the most ludicrous things in Musical/Comedy categories. Barry is not actually a comedy, lol. May December is so far from a comedy it's ABSURD.
I mean, if you want to talk snubs that aren't snubs... LET US NOTE lol that Jacob Elordi didn't get nominated for anything, and his stans are very upset, and as someone who thinks his recent attempts at being remade as a Serious Actor are ridiculous, I am... Amused. Like, look, these awards only matter in some cases, but he was clearly gunning hard for both projects, and...
I've seen Saltburn. I haven't seen Priscilla (hoping to see it very soon). I've mentioned my issues with Priscilla as a concept before (especially when it comes so quickly on the heels of Elvis) but I think that of all the things I could see it being nominated for, the, you know, girl playing Priscilla would hopefully be ahead of Elordi...? I'm not familiar with her at all, but if she can't carry the film then what is the point. Sofia Coppola also seems to be missing out this year, and while there are definite sexism issues with the directorial spot (and Greta got the woman's chair) (and the fact that both of them are white women with significant connections to prominent male directors is kind of disheartening) I'm not mad at it because I think Sofia is... hit or miss, and often extremely overhyped. And I don't like how she's handled the press around this movie at all.
But yeah, I haven't yet seen his performance as Elvis beyond clips. However... the clips I have seen? Are ROUGH, dude. His accent is in and out, he seems very one-note abuser (and hello, Nate!). And as I've waxed poetic about, I found him to be a black hole for charisma and a momentum-killer with Saltburn. A movie that was generally weak, but no shock that Barry got nominated because a) Barry is getting set up as a prominent character actor, and I'll be honest, I'm not like HYPE about his career and I hated The Eternals... so much lol.... but he was great in Banshees, really, and it's nice for an actual working class actor to come from the UK, so I'll bite and b) that dance scene was going to lock in noms for him. And tbh? I'm fine with that. Jacob Elordi cannot stand up next to actual actors.
Also, the delusionality to think that he was going to be the star breakout of the awards season after the reviews Charles Melton got...? There's a huge, specific prejudice Hollywood has against Asian men in prominent or leading roles. Charles is super gorgeous and super talented and has leading man written all over him, but he's still going to deal with that. However, if a breakout is going to stand up next to the big boys (the same way Austin Butler did last year) it's going to be Charles. If a breakout guy is going to beat out Ryan Gosling and De Niro and all them, it's going to be Charles.
I am a little sad Zac Efron didn't get a nom, but I haven't seen his movie yet. I am SUPER intrigued by the premise, and I do want to see it, and I have always had a soft spot for Zac because I think he's actually super talented and appreciate his candidness re: his struggles with eating disorders, etc. But yeah, I would've liked to see him get a nom, and him getting shut out from the GGs, however the Globes are not what they used to be, doesn't bode well for other, more prestigious awards.

It is once again spooky season, that wonderful time of the year where I must distract myself from the upcoming winter by immersing myself in pumpkin desserts, fall colors spooky aesthetics, and Gothic horror.
So with that in mind...I found myself watching The Invitation (2022).
Overall it was enjoyable to watch, it definitely nailed the aesthetics and the campy horror aspect, the acting and filming were great, and I would recommend it for anyone looking for some Gothic horror.
But that's not the reason I'm writing about this movie. I'm writing about this movie because it fell just short enough of its potential that it's taken over my entire brain.
The Good
Like I said, there was some really good filming. The shot where we learn of Mrs. Swift's death via her body being draped over Evie's hiding spot, the hands on the canopy, the Just A Chair scare, the focus on the nail clipping and filing in the spa scene to heighten the tension...
And, of course, every movie is improved by having a character in a bloodstained wedding dress power walk out of a burning mansion.
The Bad The Missed Opportunities, ie The Real Reason I Can't Stop Thinking About This Movie
Since this movie so aptly demonstrated with Mrs. Swift's death that you don't need to actually show the violence to get the horror of it across--which was pretty integral to the original Dracula--it's frustrating that they had two extended scenes where maids are trapped and preyed upon so early in the movie. It doesn't leave room for the creepiness to escalate, and it takes time that could have been used to develop some of the many underdeveloped characters in the movie--including the maids in question. We would have gotten the creepy/horrifying gist if they showed the first scene, then gotten the butler sending the other two down into the cellar and doing his Latin chant as he walks away. Or just escalated the horror more slowly, with giving the maids enough personality that both we and Evie notice when they disappear.
Speaking of which...yeah, there were quite a few characters who were underused in this movie.
I understand that this is Gothic romance, and thus the Walter/Evie relationship gets the most attention in the movie's limited screentime. However, given how big of a role family plays in the story and how searching for it is so important to Evie's character...it would've been so much more in line with the movie's themes and made the eventual reveal hit so much harder if that focus was instead given to Evie's relationship with the Alexanders. If this movie really wants to play to its Dracula origins, then Dracula's at his most effective when he's a mysterious offscreen figure, and the focus on family instead of romance would've made this movie more unique.
This movie has a lot of characters, and of course they can't all be given focus, so instead of having three different families with a bride from each one, they could've just had one family where for some ritually significant reason there needs to be three brides. Then there's still that urgency for Evie to become a bride and the movie can do double duty with Viktoria and Lucy being both brides and Evie's hoped-for family.
Also with Viktoria and Lucy...it would've been so much more interesting for the nice, sweet bride to be secretly sinister and doing her best to keep Evie in the dark, while the catty hostile bride is trying to trip Evie's red flags and get her to leave while she still can.
The other minor change that could've emphasized Evie's relationship with the Alexanders would've been to have Oliver lure her in slowly. Like, they have their first introduction, then there's a time skip/montage where it's clear they've bonded, then Oliver invites her to the wedding. This would've had the bonus effect of making it much more understandable for Evie to accept without the invitation raising any red flags.
To go along with the "family" theme...I think that the ending was meant to resolve the movie with "family of choice" > "family by blood", with Evie and her friend Grace teaming up to hunt vampires. This would've been so much more effective if Grace were more present throughout the movie--as it is, she's such an underutilized character that the only reason we know her name is because it shows up on Evie's cell phone. I don't like to say "well, they should've been more derivative of this other story", but I've also recently watched and loved Get Out and Crimson Peak, which both were horror of the "protagonist is lured to creepy home by a seemingly friendly/well-meaning connection, only to turn out to be the last in a series of victims in a ritual/scheme" variety. Both of those movies managed to make the Friend Back Home important, so I'm just saying, The Invitation could've done something to make Grace's inclusion at the end feel like more of a payoff.
The maids would've been good candidates to emphasize the "family of choice" thing too, either instead of or in conjunction with Grace. Evie could've bonded with one or several of them, enough to notice when they're getting picked off, and have at least one survive and join her at the end of the movie. On a final, more nitpicky, note, I cannot for the life of me figure out what the deal was with everyone's lifespan/powers, and I don't believe this was ever fully explained in the movie. Since Mr. Fields killed Evie's great-grandfather and Mrs. Swift was friends with her great-grandmother, they've got to have their lives extended in some way, but they don't appear to be vampires. Are anyone from the families vampires, apart from the brides? What about the Harkers?
The "This Movie Was Blatantly Trying To Tie Itself To Dracula And So I'm Allowed To Judge It By Dracula Standards"
Glad to know this movie's accurately depicting just how ridiculously ~overdramatic<3~ Dracula vampires are.
Since one of the more problematic aspects of Dracula is how it's tied into this imperial British cultural anxiety over "~foreigners~", the fact that the creepy elements are tied to the British upper class is a welcome, subtle twist on the original story.
I am not amused at how a Mina and Jonathan Harker showed up as Dracula's minions. Are they completely different characters, or did this movie honest to God turn the protagonists of the original novel evil as an Easter egg?

Oh's Own Words: On filming "The Chair"
When talking about finding the role, Oh reveals that co-creator Amanda Peet wrote the character Jiyoon with Oh in mind! She later goes onto say how Jiyoon's name made her excited for the character. In past characters, Oh had not been able to express her character's ethnicity at the depth that this show would allow her. In the context of Asian characters in Western media, many are written with either European or Anglicized names. I think this makes "The Chair" all the more significant in the trajectory of Oh's career. This is the first time she has been able to play a character with a Korean name.
She was attracted to both the content of the show and its exploration of Jiyoon's identity but also the fact that "The Chair" is a comedy, "The past few years I’ve spent time on Killing Eve... I was really looking for a comedy. Professor Kim goes through a lot of stuff and it’s done with a lot of lightness and humor."

{The Perfect Gal} Wilbur Soot x reader
summary: Wilbur is having a little bit of writers block and needs the perfect gal to help him
pronouns: not mentioned
word count: 754
regular masterlist
wilbur masterlist
Tumblr media
Wilbur and you were vibing out in his office. He invited you over because he knew that he was going to be up pretty late writing lore and didn't want you getting scared to be by yourself… but deep down he just wanted your company. You were WIlbur’s biggest motivation in getting scripts done and valued your opinion when he wasn't one hundred percent confident in his work.
Wilbur was at his desk scribbling away at his notepad trying to connect different character’s lore while you were scrolling through your phone on the couch. You have been there a little over two hours and it was getting near midnight. You had gotten up once or twice to get yourself and Wilbur a drink refill, but other than that, it was a pretty chill night.
Wilbur has gone a few minutes without writing or typing anything down. It caught your attention but you waited it out before interrupting, maybe an idea was coming to him. You stared from afar, imagining the softness of his dark brown curls and his smooth voice. He turned around in his chair and locked eyes with you,
“Are you staring again, love?”
You chuckled and nodded, “Just at you. You are very adorable when you are getting tired.”
He wheeled himself over to you, close enough to touch his knees with yours. He lifted his right hand and placed it on your left check, lightly brushing it. You felt yourself getting redder by the minute and leaned into his hand.
“I’m almost done,” Wilbur told you, “I just need to connect these three lores and we can go to bed, okay?”
You slowly shut your eyes. Sleep sounded really good at the moment, “Hit a little bit of a writer's block?”
Wilbur sighed, “Just a small one, but I think we need to talk.”
You snapped your head up. This couldn't be possible. A talk? You thought that you were doing so good keeping him happy, there was no way that you could lose him, “A-About what?”
“I know you are against the idea…” He started, “But what would really pull all of these stories together in a perfect way would be the perfect gal to do it.”
You knew where he was heading. This was the exact opposite of a breakup. He wanted you to start streaming. You two have talked about it before. Wilbur’s chat absolutely loves you. When you sit with him on stream, they are constantly asking you questions trying to get to know you better. You often gave out simple advice to silly scenarios and did your best to make everyone feel included.
“Wil… You know I do not want to stream,” You reminded him. “Streaming is your thing. Just for you. Streaming is what you do, not me. I want that to be special to you and I don't want to gain a following from being “Wilburs significant other”. You know I will do anything, absolutely anything, to help you, but I won't stream.”
He took your hands in his, “y/n, you don't have to stream. I promise you, not even a minute. At least, not on your own channel. Just hear me out okay? And if you don't like the idea I will figure something else out.”
“Okay, what is your idea?”
“To connect the lore’s, there needs to be some sort of non-biased character that has no other significance than connecting the lore. Someone who doesn't have any individual character lore, someone who is just there to make life bearable. I think you fit that perfectly…” He looked at you to see if you were interested. You gave him a nod to continue. “I think a janitor role would be perfect. You won't be a part of a nation or anything. Simply just going around the server doing basic maintenance, like filling in creeper holes. You won't have to commit much time, just a week. That's all I need is a week to make all of this lore connect. The three characters will start to notice your presence and they start to use you as some sort of messenger. Once the lore is connected, you won't have to play.”
You honestly liked the idea. You never once wanted to be a part of the SMP because you were not close with Dream or really anyone besides Wilbur, Tommy, and Phil. But you also wanted to be as active in Wilbur’s life as possible. You liked the idea, “When do we start?”

heroine's manual S1 E1
GENRE: Romcom, Drama | love triangles, childhood friends, high school au | INSPIRED BY: Heroine Shikkaku (shoujo manga) | LENGTH: ~1K | RATING: Teen | WARNINGS: mentions of eating, bullying | PAIRINGS: Minho x MC (Reader), Minho x OC
ONE. Serious relationships aren't his thing, but I'll always be by his side as his best friend.
Tumblr media
Lee Minho. Your best friend since childhood. In this story, he’s the hero.
And you are the heroine.
Sure, Minho saves his love for cats and little else- but your day will come. Minho will hear your laughter, turn to look your way as you run towards him and leap into his arms, and the realization will hit him that you’re more than just the friend that’s taken care of him for years. The day will come when he'll tell you he likes you- no, not just like but likes you.
Minho is almost always dating someone. They never last though. Nothing significant for you to worry over has ever happened. His girlfriends don't really play an important role in his life. They come and they go as the seasons pass by.
You'd seen Minho gently but firmly end each of his relationships. How could they last long when none of them were the one? Besides, he's not ready for a serious relationship yet.
But you… you’re the childhood friend who's always stayed by Minho's side. You’ll wait until the perfect moment arrives and your dreams transform from the beginnings of a sketch into a mesmerising masterpiece.
"It's fine. You have me so you won't ever be lonely," you console him after his latest breakup. "And your cats! But also me, don't forget that! You can't abandon me!"
Minho chuckles, patting your head. “You’re like a child,” Minho says fondly. “I’m not abandoning you, idiot. How can I when you said you’ll stay by my side forever?”
Your best friend was charming, handsome, funny and perfect enough to be a hero straight out of a shoujo anime. And if Minho is the hero, then the perfect person to be the heroine is none other than you.
You just have to wait. One day he'll realise you’re the one meant for him.
Tumblr media
"You should confess."
"What? Of course not! I can't possibly-"
Jisung goes on, ignoring you. "Someone might swoop in and snatch him if you don't make a move."
Now that's ridiculous. You’re the one that the spot of the heroine belongs to. No one can take it away from you. "That's impossible," you huff. "I'm the main character."
“You are the main character, yeah. Of your story,” Seungmin says. “and that’s how it is for everyone. Minho might be the one for you, or he might not. You'll never know if you do nothing besides pining after him."
"But he's not-"
You're cut short when a chalkboard eraser goes flying across the room, smacking a student in the face. It's the bullies, and their latest target is the quiet girl in the back of the room. They shove her notes to the floor and slam their fists against her desk.
Hyunjin pushes his chair back, raising from his seat. He’d been slumped against his desk and you assumed he was snoozing, though from the vicious glare he’s directing to the culprits it looks like he’s been alert the whole time. That or he’s been aroused from his slumber. You don’t startle a sleeping ferret if you don’t want to get bitten.
"Hey!"
It's Minho, not Hyunjin, who shouts at the bullies as he strolls into the room, swinging his bag at one of them and shoving another one out of the way. The third is clearly the all bark, no bite type because he cowers and scurries away under the scathing looks he gets from Minho, as well as Hyunjin who’s right behind his friend’s shoulder.
"Come on." Minho holds a hand out to the girl and leads her out of the room. The first two bullies sneer at them, though fortunately they don't follow. Hyunjin’s eyes narrow as he watches them leave, then he goes back to his desk and resumes his afternoon nap.
Tumblr media
For the rest of the day, you don't see Minho. Or the girl.
"They're probably bunking classes to go on a date," Jisung suggests. He tries to steal food off Hyunjin's plate who just scowls at him and swats his hand away. "Or maybe he wanted to see his cats and went home." Jisung reaches out to take food from you, and you let him. You're too worried about Minho to be hungry.
The bullies had been talking about wanting to get back at Minho. All he did was stand up for that girl. Against them, that's the issue they have with it. It’s silly really. They were in the wrong in the first place but when someone got in their way they pull out words like reputation and dignity as if they actually know the meaning of the words.
You just don't want to see your best friend get hurt.
The next morning, you walk into the classroom with Minho to see that they've trashed Minho's desk, ripped his notes and scribbled over the surface. All because he stood up for that girl. It's not fair. He shouldn't have to suffer for doing the right thing.
"I want to kick those losers," You hiss. "Those no good- ugh!"
The bullies jeer and throw taunts in your direction. You want to fight them. Knock those ugly words out of their vocabulary. But more than that, they scare you. On the outside you may be a fierce tigress yet on the inside you are but a kitty.
"No kicking allowed. You can't get in trouble." Minho puts his arm around your shoulders, and the two of you stroll out of the classroom. "It's okay. Just ignore them. I didn't leave anything that important here anyway. Let's just go."
Once the two of you are far enough down the hall that you can no longer hear the loud shouts, Minho swings around to face you. He brings his hand to your cheeks.
"Don't cry." Minho wipes away the tears that fell from your eyes without you even noticing. It's not from sadness but frustration. "You should save the water for better things than this. Idiot."
"It's just- It's not fair," you mutter.
"Life isn't fair. But it'll be alright. Don't worry." Minho pulls you into a hug. "You shouldn't waste your tears over stupid things like boys."
For Minho, you'd spend all your tears on him.

They Fought to Make ‘In the Heights’ Both Dreamlike and Authentic
Tumblr media
An important change is the decision to make the character of Nina, the elite student played by Leslie Grace, an Afro-Latina woman. She even refers to herself as a trigueña, which implies this was more than just a random casting choice.
HUDES One thing I’ve learned is if you want to make a nontraditional or strong casting choice, you actually have to write it into the dialogue or else it’s so easy for the production to get away from that. So a word like trigueña gets put in there for that reason. I wanted to consciously make Nina Afro-Latina in this version of “In the Heights.” Since we opened the show on Broadway, this national conversation has happened around microaggressions and really interesting stuff that I feel like would be applicable to Nina’s situation.
Was there a number that any of you felt was a deal-breaker and needed to stay?
HUDES At some point, for various artistic or budget reasons, many of the numbers were up for being potentially cut. You really had to make a strong argument for why the film needed them. Because the piragüero [who sells the Puerto Rican-style shaved-ice dessert] is a peripheral character, at one point the “Piragua” song was up for cutting. I tried to talk to Lin gently about this. He was really heartbroken and I was like, “I have one idea for how the studio would let us keep that song.” So I pitched him on playing [him]. That’s how that one stayed.
Lin, why did you feel that the piragüero was so significant to the story?
MIRANDA That song is maybe the fastest song I ever wrote. Although, I don’t know that I wrote it. I think I just caught it. The metaphor of the entire musical is inside that song. Piragüero is every character in this movie. They’re doing their best against impossible odds. They take a breath, then they keep scraping by. It’s a minute-and-45-second song, but somehow the DNA of the entire show is in that minute and 45 seconds. I was very proud that that kernel got to stay. My performance was a testament to my grandfather. He passed away the week after “In the Heights” opened on Broadway. He’s the one member of my family who did not get to see everything that came after that opening night. So I have his espejuelos [reading glasses] around my neck. I have his [Marcial Lafuente] Estefanía cowboy novels in my pocket. I’m wearing my socks up to my tabs and the same kind of shirt he had to wear. I’m really cosplaying as my abuelo.
Quiara, how did you come into the role of producer and why did you decide to take on that responsibility?
HUDES It was a lot of little things that happened organically. When we went to Warner Bros. and Jon came on board, they weren’t saying, “Where are the pages?” They were saying, “What do the pages mean?” I loved having those conversations and saying, “I don’t want to see stiletto heels on any of the salon workers. They’re women on their feet for eight or nine hours a day. Put them in tennis shoes.” Then Jon started asking me, “What would the food look like?” And I was like, “Can we also talk about the pots?” Then I started talking to the choreographer Chris Scott about the dance casting call. I don’t know much about dance, but I did know that at Abuela’s house and out on the street, you’re going to see elderly people dancing and they are going to be schooling the young’uns. At some point I said, “I want to be a producer on this. I’m not just writing words on a page.”
The choice of shooting on location is really compelling, especially when some locations would have been much easier to conceive on a soundstage. Tell me about shooting in Washington Heights and what that adds to the experience.
MIRANDA On paper it’s risky, right? It’s expensive to shoot in New York. It’s hard to shoot on location. It’s harder to shoot in Washington Heights in the summer when we all live outside for a few months a year. But the advantage is you get a million authenticity checks every day because your neighborhood is rolling up with folding chairs to watch this movie you’re going to make about them. Your characters better be dressed like the folks who are on the side, your food better be right. Everything you’re putting in the frame should be an honest reflection of the surrounding everything that’s outside of the frame. I give Jon so much credit for leaning in and listening and finding these corners of the neighborhood that have additional layers of meaning for those of us like Quiara and myself, who still live in the neighborhood.
The concept of the dream, or sueñito, is different for each character. The musical seems to say that you can attain your aspirations without losing who you are to assimilation. That’s a profound notion for immigrants and their children.
MIRANDA It’s that simple and it’s that complicated. You’re talking to first-generation writers whose parents were born on the island of Puerto Rico. You grow up with the “Sliding Doors” thinking: “What if they’d stayed? Who would I be if I grew up in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico?” The nuance that we always fought for is to say, “I can accept the sacrifice of my ancestors. I can accept the responsibility that bestows upon me and still find my own way in the world.” It’s not an either-or, it’s not about, “Forget your dreams. It’s my dreams.” It’s thinking, “I accept the incredible journey you had to take for me to even be standing here and still my job is to make my own way in the world and define home for what it is for me.”

Who will sit in the Chief of Police's chair in Nancy Drew s4?
We've had a new person in the Chief's office in every season of Nancy Drew so far, and I feel like it's going to continue into season 4.
Season 1: Chief McGinnis Season 2: Detective Abe Tamura Season 3: visiting FBI profiler Agent Park
What about Tamura?
Tamura appears to be staying on, except he's barely there because the actor that plays him, Ryan-James Hatanaka, has a steady gig on The Fairly OddParents! show, which doesn't give him much time to film Nancy Drew. If that gets renewed, it seems unlikely that he'll return or, if he does, that it will be in any significant role. Even if Agent Park becomes a recurring character, an FBI profiler isn't someone that really has the credentials to run a police station, even if he gets to borrow the office while it's vacant. Tamura hasn't even been named Chief as far as I can tell; he's just an interim person in charge for now as the most senior person working at the station.
What's next?
It looks like an actual Chief needs to be appointed (they're usually chosen by the mayor/city official/city board) for an upcoming season since Nancy and the Drew Crew need to be able to work with someone. Nancy spends an awful lot of time at the station and with her new job as Community Liason, she's going to be there even more in her official capacity.
If no one is appointed, will this chair be filled by a continual rotating cast of characters? Will Nancy herself ever sit there?
Who should it be?
Dear god, let it be a woman or a gay man, or Ace's dad, Captain Thom. Literally, anyone Nancy won't date. Whether or not Nace has happened by then, I am so tired of Nancy flirting over the Chief's desk. I love me some banter, but maybe without the sexual overtones this time. She's two-for-three and anyone old enough to sit behind the desk is too old to be trying to date a 19-year-old. It creeps me out.
It would be awfully refreshing to see a woman, nonbinary, or trans person take the job as we've had enough cis men in that position and I'm ready for a change. No one in town appears to be qualified or they would have shown up or been promoted by now, so we need someone from outside Horseshoe Bay to move there for the job.
I would love to see a brand new actor show up to take the position, hopefully a permanent one, and potentially be a skeptical ally to the Drew Crew. Or even someone that came from somewhere just as haunted as Horseshoe Bay with their own wild stories and unconventional ways of doing things. Hell, bring in Sam Elliot. Now there's the perfect haunted town chief that would never hit on Nancy in a million years. That's the only straight dude I'll accept besides Thom.
Who do you think would make a great Chief of Police for Horseshoe Bay? Someone already in town, or maybe a specific actor?
