nah jk and i know youre joking lmao but i AM gonna use this as an opportunity to talk about why i hate the like 2015 era culture of dan bottoms uwu" ASIDE FROM LIKE THE OBVIOUS INAPPROPRIATENESS OF SHOVING THAT IN THE FACES OF TWO REAL DUDES.

like idk so much of the like "bottom dan top phil" was purely based on like how 'masculine" the two of them are or are perceived to be? or age or all these other things that i think are really harmful stereotypes toward gay couples in general like the "who's the man who's the woman" type thing. like oh dan is a bottom because he's more feminine, because he's younger, because he just "seems like it" and its like, what about him "seems" like a bottom lmao (again this is exactly what he says in his assumptions video.) and maybe some of it is based on the fact that he plays into the like daddy jokes but even before that ppl would still bottomify him lmao idk.

but same with top!phil, like it reminds me a lot of before they came out, at least around the time i was seeing this kinda stuff, ppl would be like "dan is bi or gay, but phil is definitely straight" which honestly... i think is bc a lot of the community at the time were like, young afab ppl who only knew about queerness (particularly male queerness) thru slashfic and yaoi, so they couldnt read that phil is like. thats butch queen yknow he's masc in like a "i love men so much that i became my ideal man" way. (i mean literally he became an emo to find a hot emo boy) but maybe that's just me and that's something that i am able to read abt him now that he's out idk! but yeah i think that idea of his masculinity then translated into, therefore he is the top in fics.

AND LIKE. we're all mature adults now right? for the most part? obv we're no longer @ ing them on twitter about fic or whatever but i do think this specific aspect of Phan Shipping is still kind of a thing, at least from what i've seen. AND DONT GET ME WRONG, DAN IS BABYGIRL. but i'm just saying. sometimes babygirl is a top.

Rating the Urban Dictionary Definitions of Dan and Phil

Dan:

this is a strong start, it was written in 2015 so it is a little tainted in the ‘phan’ rhetoric. My favourite part is the ‘no home howell’ because I like to imagine that Phil kicked him out. it loses points for top/bottom discourse. 5/10

This one comes in with a ✨spicy✨ phanti take, which references dan being ‘straight’, however it was written in 2013 so im giving it the benefit of the doubt (also 22 year old dan???) 1/10

This is a rollercoaster. We have out first (and only) post coming out definition, so this gains a point for that. I’m struggling to determine when the phandom renamed themselves as ‘susan’ and decided we were a cult? MUNDAY FUNDAY | no longer accepting (PROMPT RUSH LET'S GOOO)

For my favorite thread types, it's a toss-up between action, discovery/adventure, or deep conversations. And, before you say "Dan, that's like 90% of threads," just know that I agree with you--I can't pick just one! Now, for the ultimate cop-out follow-up, I'm gonna say that I can't really think of a least favorite thread type off the top of my head. I will say that, since going indie, I'm still getting used to one-liners (which, honestly, I'm still sort of lukewarm on) and crack (though you could argue that half of my Barry interactions are already crack, lmao). Even so, I'd still consider myself game for any thread type! (I answered the "best at writing" question here!)

My favorite thing about my Clair muse? I would have to say that I'm most proud of the world that I built around her (with the Dragon's Den, the Dragon Clan traditions, her Gym Leader duties, etc.) I originally picked her up in 2015 because she was one of my favorite Gym Leaders, I thought her world (the Dragon Clan) was interesting...and she was so different from the other muses that I played before then (Barry, Marlon, Crasher Wake, a peppy reporter OC...). It's been so fun and challenging to build and write a character who was/is so different from my usual norm. As for who/what I want for Clair...I need a Lance, man. Please.

As for least favorite...over my time writing Clair, I've always tried to keep her attitude consistent--she's blunt, strict, reclusive, and sometimes mean. When she interacts with other muses, I want to maintain her edge...but that's always a difficult balancing act for me. If Clair starts her interactions too nicely, then she loses her attitude and the biting edge that I love writing. However, if Clair is too harsh/closed off towards new encounters, muns will (understandably) have little reason to keep interacting with her. I hope this all makes sense--I just mean to say that keeping Clair's attitude consistent is really, really hard for me!
