He leaves her behind, leaves everyone behind, and leaves her to deal with a change in her life she never wanted to experience on her own.

Loyalty by zabjade Ship: Spuffy, Spike/captain of the Flying Dutchman Rating: M Words: 19,489 Comment: I can't believe that what season 5 Spuffy* was missing all along was a spot of consensual tentacle smut, and I seriously love zabjade's treatment of the Flying Dutchman legend. *There is extensive, graphic Spike/Other, but it serves to advance the Spuffy; also, it's very nice in its own right. Exquisite Consequences by @yellowbike, angelic_amy, @bewilderedsff, @spuffycarrie, @sunalsolove, @iamoffyourbird, othellia, @sandy-s-d, Behind Blue Eyes, relurker, thenewbuzwuzz, Sigyn, Fraggleshrew Ship: Spuffy Rating: NC-17 Words: 59,997 Comment: The second Elysian Fields surrealist round robin went incredibly well. Unfortunately, only users of Elysian Fields can read the whole story, but some chapters are available on AO3. Because of the way the story was written, I believe chapters can be enjoyed separately. This story makes me happy in many, many ways. It fixes season 6 Spuffy by giving Buffy a long, relaxing vacation and a chance to improve her communication skills before she meets Spike again (while Spike has his own character development), but it's not just a fixit -- it's way more imaginative than that. <3 There is Egyptian mythology and the Watchers' Council 2.0, and the way the Scoobies have aged 20 or so years post-series, and the romance is particularly body-/sex-/kink-positive, with much emphasis on communication, and just lovely.

Usagi "Serena" Tsukino Serenity, Neo Princess of Elysium's moon kingdom of Mare Serenitatis is set to ascend the throne when she is of age, however before she is to be accepted onto the throne there are requirements each future queen must meet to prove their worth. While holding the mantle of Guardian of Silver Millennium; the princess enlists into Starfleet Academy as her personal task of worth as well as a gesture of good will to cement Elysium's new admission into the Federation.

Her training is hard and laborious, and although her methods are often unorthodox, Usagi is able to pass her training and earn the rank of a command track Ensign. Operating under the name Ensign (later, Lieutenant) Serena Tsukino --- with only the captains she serves under aware of her true identity, Usagi works to learn the responsibilities of command and cooperation with both her crew and with other cultures.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Usagi was raised as the princess, but was required to live her early years on Elysium with a host family (The Tsukinos) in order to properly connect with both the Planet of Elysium and Mare Serenitatis. She refers to her birth mother as such; and her host mother as Ikuko Mama (like Chibiusa does in the main series).

Elysium is no longer earth, but an earth like planet with a human/humanoid race. Mare Serenitatis is the name for the Moon that orbits Elysium --- it is still colloquially referred to as The Moon Kingdom by Elysians. All citizens of Elysium and Mare Serenitatis are generally referred to as Elysian --- Serentiatian refers to a specific type of Elysian that is either connected to the royal family, the guardian line or have inherited certain traits and abilities that differ them from other citizens.

Usagi’s the heir apparent until she completes her tasks and deemed worthy; so although she is recognized by her people as the future queen and current princess --- there is still a chance she could lose that if she fails in her mission or dies. (Her worthiness tasks are inspired in part by The Day of Demand on the planet Alderaan in Star Wars --- with Usagi joining Starfleet mirroring Princess Leia joining the Imperial Youth Legislative).

Although her true name is Serenity, and she joins Starfleet under the name Serena, Usagi is the name she self identifies by. Serenity is a royal name --- and part of a title inherited and passed down. The only one who really uses the name in private sometimes is her mother as she named her.

The Lethe Joker

((Another Joker intro for my surprisingly popular Joking Mirrors head canon ft. in Kiss Button!))

The Silver Age of Comics started in 1954 when the Comics Code Authority was established in response to people believing that violence in mass media (such as comics and television) were causing delinquency in juveniles and youth.

Due to his original characterization, the Joker of the Golden Age of Comics (that is: the Leading Joker in the Joking Mirrors continuity 1940′s Joker of Batman #1 straight up to the release of his Red Hood origins in 1951) was deemed too violent for public consumption and altered to follow the new guidelines. No longer allowed to kill, the Joker was transformed into a comedic villain primarily defined by his goofiness, trickery, and love of money. While this led to the creation of some of his most beloved and well-known props today (his joke guns, deadly joy buzzers, and acid flowers), it does raise an interesting question...

What is the in-’verse explanation?

Somehow, the Joker’s crimes (which were more than a decade’s worth of death and destruction) were completely forgotten in Gotham right up until 1973, when the Bronze Age of Comics started, because references to his previous antics would reintroduce the Joker’s original level of violence and break the new code. Now, I’m not DC-savvy enough to actually answer the above question; but I do know how to tackle it within the confines of my own head canon (surprisingly).

The answer, for me, actually lies in Greek Mythology (also surprisingly).

In Greek myth, there is a river called Lethe. This is the River of Forgetfulness. It’s purpose is to erase the memories of whomever drinks it so that they can be reborn with no memory of who they used to be after they have served their time in Tartarus (basically Hell) or spent their time in the Elysian Fields (basically Heaven). It generates a new slate or purges the soul, if you will.

And this is why Lead, the Original Joker, calls his Silver Age self: Lethe.

Lead, himself, obviously still exists—as himself—throughout these years and the following (Bronze Age), too. However, the version of him presented to the “real world” audience is not him: it’s Lethe. The same goes for the Bronze Age Joker—whatever his name is—because, just as the audience gets to see different renders showing different takes on the Joker via movies and series and games, the audience ends up seeing whatever version of the Joker fits best with what they are “allowed” or “supposed” to see (in this case, the silvery goof, Lethe).

Thus, Lead begins in 1940 and meets Lethe in 1954 and they both meet the Bronze Age Joker in 1973 without any of them dying or any of us knowing.

And if that somehow answers the above question anyway, well, let me know; because this wasn’t meant to although, now that I think about it, it would fit pretty well with the Film Theory’s take on the Three Jokers Theory... so that’d be cool!
