Decoding Darkness: Choosing the New Book Title and Exploring the Bridget Cleary Connection
Hello, my Freaky Darlings! Greetings from a slightly warmer arse-end of Africa. Another week has come and gone, and as usual, I’m faced with the Herculean task of picking the choicest nuggets of lunacy to share with you. Skimming through the weekly headlines has me doing double takes and muttering ‘What The Actual Fuck’ every other minute. But at least the taxi strike that pretty much shut Cape…

OMINIS LORE DROPPED BY DIALOGUE AT THE END OF THE HISTORY OF MAGIC CLASS QUEST!
Pardon if the wording isn't exact, as you can see by the screenshot I'm playing in spanish, but here are some dialogue lines Ominis speaks to Natty and you if you stay to listen after finishing the History of Magic class map quest:
Quidditch:
"Next season the Chudley Cannons will be invincible, you'll see!
"My father was a great seeker and he always thought I'd be one too. Thank Merlin they cancelled quidditch."
"I miss attending the matches. Cheering everyone was very fun. And watching Isaac Cooper."
"My friends and I like to spend the evenings watching the sun set from the quidditch pitch. This year it isn't much good for anything else, unfortunately."
"I spent the entire summer practicing a full turn on a broom. What a waste!"
Family:
"This is the first year my sister is in Hogwarts. Whenever she pretends she doesn't see me in the corridors I make her trip with a jinx."
"This is the first year my siblings and I are together at Hogwarts. Our poor mother doesn't know what to do with so much time on her hands, so she knits. She sends us a new sweater each week."
"You try to work with a wand that has been through your three disastrous sisters."
"My father says he used to hide his homework under his bed."
"I used to write to my parents every week. Now I can't recall the last time I sent them an owl, do you think they know i'm still alive?"
"I hadn't met any of my cousins until i came to Hogwarts and saw that we were all in the same house."
"My brother has promised to give me his old broom when he saves up enough to buy himself a new one. I can't wait!"
Studies/teachers:
"If I manage to stop dissappearing my class notes while practicing evanesco I might even pass the Transfigurations O.W.L. this year."
"Professor Weasley is a trully incredible teacher. She never makes us write scrolls longer than necessary."
"Professor Weasley is already preparing me for the Transfigurations N.E.W.T."
"The other day Professor Black looked at me in the Great Hall and I spat my breakfast. I don't know if he might've taken it the wrong way."
"What a relieve that Black's children are too young to attend Hogwarts. I'd hate having my father as headmaster."
"Obviously, Hogwarts is the best magic school in the world. Everyone knows that. Of course, we'll be the best at magic in the world."
"Professor Howin is going to ask us about aquatic animals next week. I can't wait to tell her I saw a kelpie in Ireland this summer."
"I took my copy of 1000 Herbs and Magical Fungy to Herbology and left it in the greenhouse next to the mandrake seedbeds. Sharp was horrified by the fact that i didn't have it in class. He said I needed to sort out my priorities."
"Everyone is afraid of Professor Sharp, but not me. He's a brilliant man. And he has only yelled at me twice this week for setting my cloak on fire."
"I wonder how Sharp injured his leg. Surely, it must've been during his time as an auror."
"You should hear Shah talk about Divination. It's a miracle Onai's ears aren't burning. I'd say stars are more knowledgeable than cards."
"I'm still having a hard time brewing antidotes. I'm surprised to many of them ask for mandrakes. I'll make sure I set my career goals far away from that."
"That reminds me, did miss Scribner say we could take the book out at night or that she'd punish us if we did?"
"I've notices that if I pretend to pay attention in Potions, Sharp lets me be. It works well enough, unless he asks me a question. Then it's not a good plan at all. Actually, I wouldn't recommend it."
"Sharp caught me making faces behind his back. It was horrible... not to speak of all the house points I lost."
"if someone needs help with their studies or homework, I don't mind lending them a hand. Yesterday I wrote half a scroll for Binns during lunch break."
"I have no problem saying I have trouble understanding that Black is married. What kind of witch would give her hand to a man like that? On the other hand, that means there's hope for everyone."
"I need dragon-skin gloves for Herbology. I refuse to touch chinese chomping cabbages with my naked hands."
"Why aren't we allowed to use gillyweed? What's the point of learning Herbology if we can't mess around with gillyweed? If by the end of the trimester I haven't personally met a mermaid I'll be mad."
[unlike others] "I do like Transfigurations. The complex and precisse nature of transfigurations is admirable."
"I met some of my best friends in Flying class. Nothing strenghtes a bond like thinking you're going to die."
"Professor Weasley must be exhausted doing all her work and then Black's. We're lucky to have her."
Slytherin house:
"Someone got home-made chocolate cauldrons and shared them in the common room. But I think they might've confused the sugar with salt. There were half-eaten chocolate cauldrons in the common room for days."
"I don't know why each common room has a secret entrance. Who would want to go to another common room? We got sorted to our houses for a reason."
"Our dorm is atrocious. I wish people cleaned up after themselves once in a while. Last night a bundimun ate my homework. The potions one, too."
"I like to have a wiggenweld potion under my bed. Not to name any names but someone spent a lot of money on Zonko's."
"My side of the dorm is always impeccable, but I can't say the same about my dorm-mates. If I didn't know them I'd say they were raised by trolls."
Others:
"Has there been any news about the Pitt-upon-Ford Dragon? It makes me want to move, to be honest."
"My great-aunt was a Hufflepuf. She says they have the best common room because it's the calmest. Well, compared to the others."
"I wish I had brought a pet owl to school. I mean, I love my toad. More or less. You wouldn't be interested in getting a toad, would you?"
"Do all professors have their own owls? They must sent lots of letters. To the Ministry or something like that."
"So many letters arrive every day and none are for me."
"If i turn my toad into a cup again, I think it might insist I leave it like that."
"I'd like to retire in Hogsmead. Open a bar. Bore Hogwart's students with my childhood stories."
"I'd like to have a shop in Hogsmead one day. Gladrags Wizardwear could use some competition."
"I guess I'm curious about the beautification potion. What? It's not for me, idiot! It's for a friend. Don't say dumb things."
"Has there been any new about the Pitt-upon-Ford Dragon? It makes me want to move, to be honest."
"My great-aunt was a Hufflepuf. She says they have the best common room because it's the calmest. Well, compared to the others."
"Do all professors have their own owls? They must sent lots of letters. To the Ministry or something like that."
"So many letters arrive every day and none are for me."
"If i turn my toad into a cup again, I think it might insist I leave it like that."
"Have you been by the owlery lately? the house elves haven't been cleaning much this week."
"The other day Peeves distracted me and I bumped right into Adelaide Oakes. Both our books went up flying int he air. Peeves loved it."
"I don't like the size of my legs. Well, you were asking the other day, so I'm telling you."
"I had been collecting chizpurfle fangs all trimester when I thought, why not keep some chizpurfles."
"I really pity those who never get owl-post, poor guys. Have you seen their faces in the great hall?"
"I've heard girls talk about african snake skin near the bathroom. Do you think they're brewing pollyjuice? Oh, what if they've already brewed it and Sharp is actually that hufflepuff girl with the long arms?"
"Today I'm going to the green-houses to sow some knotgrass. Did you know it's used for pollyjuice potion? I think it's what creates the connection to the other person."
"There's an ex-auror living near Hogsmead. She wants to live a quiet life after fighting dark wizards."
"Do you know where I can get leaping toadstoll caps?"
"I just don't get it. Opalum. Who would think to put that in a potion?"
"The other day I got stuck in the Great Staircase for an hour waiting for it to change. Sharp wouldn't believe me when I told him that's why I was late."
"Parry Pippin sure did save me with his wiggenweld potion. In my opinion, his shop's better than any of the ones in London."
"Did you buy your bitterroot from Pippin or did you pick it up yourself? I need some desperately."
That's all I got after staying to listen for about an hour <3

⛤HISTORY OF SAMHAIN/HALLOWEEN⛤
This custom has its origins in the pagan Celtic peoples of Ireland, Britain and northern France.
Since they believed that life is born from death, they used the end of autumn to mark the beginning of their new year, the period when nature dies, because its death, according to their belief, represents the time of darkness, decay and death.
On that day, the fire on the home hearths was extinguished and darkness reigned everywhere.
On the last evening of the autumn harvest, nature changes, and the sunny and warm summer gives way to the dark and cold winter, and the fertile land becomes barren.
The Celts believed that night to be magical and apparently attached great importance to it.
In modern times, Samhain is usually celebrated from October 31 to November 1 to welcome in the harvest and usher in "the dark half of the year".
Celebrants believe that the barriers between the physical world and the spirit world are broken during Samhain, allowing for greater interaction between humans and the inhabitants of the Other World.
As this holiday was really popular, many religions, as Christianity, turned away from its true meaning.
⛤ANCIENT SAMHAIN⛤
The ancient Celts marked Samhain as the most significant of the four quarterly fire festivals, which take place at the midpoint between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice.
During this time of year, hearth fires in family homes were allowed to burn during harvest.
At the end of the gathering work, the celebrants joined the druid priests to light a community fire using a wheel that would cause friction and sparks.
The wheel was considered a representation of the sun and used in conjunction with prayers. Cattle were sacrificed and participants brought a flame from the communal bonfire to their home to rekindle the hearth.
Early texts present Samhain as an obligatory three-day and three-night celebration in which the community was to perform to local kings or chieftains.
Failure to attend is believed to result in punishment from the gods, usually illness or death.
There was also a military aspect to Samhain in Ireland, with festive thrones prepared for soldier commanders.
Anyone who committed a crime or used their weapons during the celebration faced a death sentence.
Some documents mention six days of drinking excess alcohol, typically mead or beer, along with gluttonous feasts.
⛤SAMHAIN IN THE MIDDLE AGES⛤
As the Middle Ages progressed, so did the celebrations of the fire festivals.
Bonfires known as Samghnagans, which were Samhain's more personal fires near the farms, became a tradition, presumably to protect families from fairies and witches.
Carved turnips called jack-o-lanterns began to appear, attached by strings to sticks and set with charcoal. Later the Irish tradition passed to pumpkins.
In Wales, men threw firewood at each other in violent games and lit fireworks.
⛤WICCA AND SAMHAIN⛤
A broad revival of Samhain resembling its traditional pagan form began in the 1980s with the growing popularity of Wicca.
The Samhain Wicca celebration takes many forms, from traditional fire ceremonies to celebrations that embrace many aspects of modern Halloween, as well as activities related to honoring nature or ancestors.
Wiccans view Samhain as the passing of the year and incorporate common Wiccan traditions into the celebration.
In the Druid tradition, Samhain celebrates the dead with a festival on October 31 and usually features a bonfire and communion with the dead.
American pagans often hold music and dance celebrations called Witches' Balls near Samhain.
Pagans who embrace Celtic traditions with the intent of faithfully reintroducing them into modern paganism are called Celtic reconstructors.
In this tradition, Samhain is called Oiche Shamhna and celebrates the mating between the gods Tuatha de Danann Dagda and the river Unis.
Celtic reconstructors celebrate by placing juniper decorations around their homes and creating an altar for the dead where a feast is held in honor of the deceased.
Samhain is the dark Moon - the time of death, letting go, completion, binding of free ends, retreat and regeneration.
Samhain is a time when the veil between worlds is thin which makes the next 12 days super powerful when it comes to intuition, psychic impressions, dreams, prophecy, mysticism and spirituality.
It's a great time to relax by a fire or light a few candles and listen to your inner self. It's also a great time to use astrology, tarot cards, runes, dreams and more to mirror the truth.
The depths are calling us.
We are asked to truly feel our emotions, dance with our shadows, face our fears and obsessions, and face the places in our life where we manipulate or control or allow others to manipulate and control us.
⛤HALLOWEEN IN ORTHODOXY⛤
When these people accepted Christianity, the holiday of All Saints was established, which was celebrated on November 1 precisely to eradicate this occult custom.
On the night before this holiday, an all-night vigil was held.
However, under the pressure of globalization and Western influence, as well as the influence of different religions and cults, the night before the Christian holiday became the night of witches, witchcraft, summoning evil spirits and demons.
The word "Halloween" comes from the expression "All-Hallows-Evening", which means "the evening before the church holiday of All Saints".
In Orthodoxy, Saint Luke, the creator of one of the Gospels, is celebrated on October 31.
It is believed that this doctor and patron of artists painted the first icons of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and the apostles Peter and Paul.
The tradition of celebrating Halloween was brought to North America by Irish immigrants in the 19th century.

Chapter 17: A gathering of witches
A lunar convergence is a rare and festive event and you dress accordingly. There are several layers: a pretty linen dress, one of your favorite, hugging all the right spots of your body. Over it there is a bodice, something that unfortunately is not in fashion right now, if you would step out on the street with it. At the same time, it makes a really good figure. Last but not least, you put a fur overcoat around your shoulders, because the night will get cold.
Your outfit represents who you are, your status as a witch. You put on several rings, all filled with magic. Today you don't plan to use them, just wear them because you like them. In your hair you have coiffed a single feather of a kite. It is the symbol of your family. Traditionally, everyone wears a badge that indicates their bloodline.
You take a look in your mirror and are pleased with what you see.
It is time to leave. You step through the portal door and arrive at your sister's house in the hallway. You hear her and your brother's voices in the living room and you enter.
"You've never been on time before, Gabe," you grin broadly to the young-looking man, who looks up and chuckles at your words.
"Times change."
You hug them both in greeting. You haven't seen your brother in ages.
He is tall and slender, almost lanky, and has orange hair. His father was Irish and you can see Gabriel's ancestry.
Appropriately, and for today's occasion, he wears a kilt and matching high socks. His shirt reveals his chest, over which hang several necklaces with feathers, wooden beads and bones. The left sleeve of his shirt is sewn shut just below the shoulder due to a missing arm. His hair was shoulder length the last time you saw him, but now it is cut. A little longer on top, a little shorter on the sides, and coiffed in a modern style.
Gabriel is the youngest out of the three of you, born in the first half of the 19th century, just before there was a great famine in Ireland that nearly halved the country's population.
There's a bigger gap in age between you and your sister. Maybe that's why she likes to take on the caring role of big sister so much.
"I heard you moved to another continent," he says, turning to you.
"Just professionally," you relent.
"Oh, I've heard a lot about that profession," he grins at you.
You roll your eyes. News travels fast between you siblings. Elizabeth, in particular, likes to take it upon herself to keep you all up. She's wearing a similar outfit to yours, but traditionally high-necked while your dress is lower-cut, and instead of a fur, she's reaching for an embroidered mantle.
"That reminds me, I have something for you," Gabriel says, reaching into his pocket from which he pulls a small vial that he hands to you. It seems filled with water and something shimmery in it as you hold it up to the light.
"What's this?"
"A mermaid scale."
"No way!" you exclaim. "How did you get that?!"
The brother grins self-righteously. "I helped some of them escape and got gifts in return," he explains. You just shake your head at that. He always has adventurous stories to tell.
"Did you get a kiss? Nah, you wouldn't tell me anyway. But thanks for the scale." You smile beamingly at him and stow the vial in your pocket. Components of mermaids were really hard to get because they are shy and also stubborn creatures. And as pretty as they are, they are equally dangerous.
"Shall we?" asks Elizabeth and you nod, following her to her workroom. On the way, your brother leans toward you.
"Unfortunately, I did not," he whispers to you. "Maybe next time."
You chuckle as he winks at you.
A ritual circle is painted on the floor in Elizabeth's study and you step in it. The three of you join hands and after exchanging one last glance, you all begin to recite the same spell.
Under your words, the circle begins to glow. A breeze comes up, the smell of freshly cut grass is in the air. For a moment your vision is obscured by mist, then it clears and you are suddenly standing in nature.
It is a wide field at the foot of a hill. A well-trodden path leads up. People keep appearing around you, alone or in small groups. They are all magically gifted, most of them some kind of witches, but not exclusively. Only some are from Earth, many from other realms.
You start walking uphill.
The higher you get, the more plants grow around you until they condense into a small forest. You come to an open gate that almost looks like a circular piece of wall. Over time, moss and fern have settled on it, giving it something fairy-like. Like a gate to another world.
Behind it, the path changes to wide, stone steps that lead you further up the forest until it suddenly ends and you reach a large meadow. It is the top of the mountain, a sacred place.
Some larger rocks stick out of the grass. In the center of the place, five roughly hewed obelisks stand in a circle and the ground there is not grass but rough stone.
You are familiar with this place. The convergence happens once every one hundred years and it is already your third festival.
Your siblings and you make a circuit of the meadow, nodding every now and then to greet familiar faces.
Finally, you find what you are looking for: your mother, standing with some women and talking.
You walk toward her, and although she has her back to you, she turns to face you and comes a little toward you.
"Hello, children," she greets you kindly, but not warmly. She grabs each of you in turn by the hands and kisses you on the cheek. First Elizabeth, then you, then Gabriel.
It's the first time you've seen her in years - mostly she stays out of your lifes - and you notice she looks older. The small wrinkles around her mouth and eyes are evidence of that, and it's getting harder to guess her former hair color under the gray. For a witch to have such signs of aging, she must have reached a significant age - or gotten involved with the wrong spells.
"I'm glad you're all here. It's going to be a lovely evening."
If she says that, it must be true, because she's a seer. That's one of the reasons you don't talk to her much. There's not much to tell her that she doesn't know anyway. For today, though, her words are a good prediction.
"I'll see you later," Gabriel says. "I have a date."
That's the cue for you to split up. Before you can leave, too, though, your mother stops you. "Ah, before I forget, there's someone I want you to meet."
"Sure," you say, a little surprised, and follow her to the women you were standing with earlier. She waves to one of them, who then joins you.
You've never seen her before. She looks friendly with a certain warmth. She wears a flower crown on her upswept blonde hair, and her elegant dress is an indicator that she must be a person of respect. Her gaze moves from your mother to you and she eyes you curiously, almost scrutinizing. Then she smiles. "Now I understand why you suggested inviting my son," she says to your mother, then turns back to you, "Come, child, let's take a walk."
With each of her words, you become more and more confused and merely nod. You're used to your mother speaking in riddles and this woman here seems to be expressing herself similarly. You're curious to hear what she has to say.
"I've heard a lot about you," she begins.
"I wasn't aware that my mother talked much about her children," you admit, but the woman shakes her head.
"It wasn't her, but my son who told me about you."
Astonished, you look at her. "I don't think I understand. Who is your son?"
"I should introduce myself first," she realizes. "I am Frigga, mother of Loki and Thor."
You stop as if rooted to the spot and your eyes widen in surprise. Your first thought is that the Queen of Asgard is standing before you. With your second thought, you wonder why your mother knows her. You blink as you realize you are staring at her and quickly avert your gaze so as not to be rude. "Forgive me, I did not expect to meet you here, your Majesty."
She seems amused by your behavior, but nods in satisfaction at the courtesy. "Call me Frigga, child. We are not in the palace and I am not here as queen." She starts moving again and you follow her. "You probably don't realize it, but Loki and I have kept correspondence ever since he went to Midgard. My younger son prefers to keep to himself, but he mentioned a Witchling he met. And from what I've heard from other places as well, you seem to be very supportive of him."
You smile at the mention of Loki's nickname for you. You really weren't aware that he was writing to his mother and it touches your heart that he told her about you. "I'm merely a friend," you say.
"That's the best thing he can ask for," the queen replies. There is a short pause in which you process what you have just heard and she looks at you from the side. Then she addresses her next question carefully to you. "Did you two fight?"
Questioning how she knows about that, you turn your head to her.
"When I finally saw him again and talked to him, I was surprised to find him in a bad mood. I thought he was doing well and that his time on Midgard had done him good. But he seems almost heartbroken. He doesn't talk about it and I wonder if you know anything about it."
You sigh as you remember your argument with Loki and nod a little ashamedly. You should have talked to him before you left.
"This is my fault," you tell her, "I made… Well, it's not exactly a mistake. I had some things to sort out and I took too long for it. Loki heard words out of their context. I guess it's a big misunderstanding."
Frigga nods in understanding. "My son has a brilliant mind, but sometimes he acts and judges hastily."
"I am sorry to have caused you concern. I will talk to him as soon as I get back and explain everything to him."
"Why wait so long?" Frigga asks, standing still. You stop as well, puzzled by her words. Does she expect you to return to New York immediately? Well, you can't contradict a queen. But you notice that she's not looking at you, and as you follow her gaze, you spot Loki sitting under a tree in the distance.
It seems like today is full of surprises.
"I'll let you two to it. You seem to have a lot to talk about."
You watch her turn around and leave. Then you look back at the prince. You hesitate, not knowing what to do while being so suddenly confronted with the consequences of your behavior. But Loki has already spotted you and his mother and stands up.
Slowly you approach him.
His expression is unreadable, but you are sure that inside him is the same chaos of emotions as in you.
Like his mother, he wears fine Asgardian clothing that looks distinguished and noble. No armor, it seems more appropriate for a ball or similar event. His hair is neatly coiffed back, some strands even braided. He wears a similar flower crown as his mother on his head. You wonder if it is the sign of their family. It seems almost too plain for a royal family. You also wonder if he made it himself.
"What are you doing here on Vanaheim, Witchling?" he asks you. His tone is neutral, almost bored. But he can't fool you.
"The same as you obviously. Listen, I wanted to apologize about our fight." You mean your words sincerely, and you hope he senses that. "I didn't seduce you for the job, to make you hand-tame and keep you under control. Tony doesn't know what he's talking about, you have to believe me."
Loki's expression remains unmoved and he crosses his arms. "You said it was a mistake."
You're confused for a moment and have to think about your conversation, but then you remember how you stormed out of his suite. "Oh shit, I did!" it escapes you, "No, let me explain. I didn't mean the thing with..." You gesture between you, not knowing how to name it. "I meant the fact that I got paid to work with you. I don't want you to think that I manipulated you. That money is the only reason I'm standing by your side."
"It's not?" asks Loki.
You nod. "I quit."
"Is that why you didn't show up yesterday?" Loki's voice changes to an angry hiss. "You disappeared without another word?"
Horrified, you stare at him. "What, no! Oh boy, we have so much we need to talk about." You take a deep breath to get your thoughts in order. "First of all, I took a few days off because of my work at the Cottage and the Lunar Convergence. I wanted to tell you, but then we were already arguing. Theoretically, you could have heard it when I was talking to Tony, because obviously you overheard that conversation." You look at him, but he doesn't look as if he's embarrassed by that accusation. Rather like he's waiting for the rest of your explanation. "I quit, but I want to continue my work with you. Only without being paid. Just as a friend. Shall we sit down somewhere, perhaps?" you suggest, but Loki does not respond to that question. At least your words seem to calm him down a bit.
"I don't understand," he says, turning away, looking at the forest. "Don't you Midgardians need a job and money in order to survive?"
"I'm not your average Midgardian," you remind him, trying to keep your patience with him. "I'm a witch and I've survived for almost three hundred years, so I think I will manage."
Loki tilts his head, closing his eyes. "So, you are staying as a friend?" he asks again, emphasizing the last word comically.
"Yes, Loki, a friend," you nod. "Don't you have this concept on Asgard?"
"We do."
"Excellent. Then you know how it works."
Loki turns his head back to you, hesitating briefly with what he says next. "What if I don't want to be friends with you?"
Your face falls and your shoulders slump. "I… would understand it. Friendship needs trust. But it would make me sad." Somehow you're not already giving up on him just yet. He has a hard time opening up to people, and pulls back much faster. But your time together must mean something. Now it's you looking longingly toward the forest. There's something reassuring about the old trees. "I like you, Loki."
The Asgardian steps closer to you, puts his fingers on your cheek and turns your head to look at him. "I thought we were already more than friends," he murmurs. "Unless it was just a game for you after all."
You give a soft ’oh’ as you understand. "We can be… friends and more. Why not both?" You are mumbling, almost rambling. Fortunately, Loki interrupts you with a kiss. It's only brief, but it's enough to make you fall silent.
"I'd like that," he murmurs, kissing you again, more desperately this time. As if he's afraid you're about to disappear after all.
"Great, me too." This time it's you who briefly interrupts the kiss, but your lips are immediately back on his. You are smiling.
So are the two women standing on the other side of the field, watching you from afar. Satisfied with the outcome of the night, your mothers exchange a look.

9. Annie Thorn (MC)/ Brother
Summary: An impromptu visit interrupts Annie's final preparations before the battle.

Chapter index - previous chapter (Jae Kim) - next chapter (Diego Caplan)
Tumblr media
Alone.
Her boyfriend is safe in Ireland. She sent her partner to France, and her brother has abandoned her... Again.
Annie checks her equipment and buckles her bag. Through the window, her gaze wanders over an indistinct horizon in the night. Indistinct. Like her future.
When was the last time she asked herself what would become of her?
The answer that comes to her clenches her heart. It was at the beginning of her Auror training, after she had known passion. The one that consumes you until you leave only a heart in ashes.
The witch had to rebuild it, piece by piece. During this time, Annie and Jae were everything to each other. In turn, partners, lovers, friends, a bit of all of this at the same time and so much more... He has always been there, never letting her storms and shipwrecks push him away, and for seven years, they experienced everything together.
Jae deserves to be happy, to embrace a companion more joyful than loneliness. That’s why Annie did everything she could to ensure him a bright future with Penny, regardless of the outcome of the Battle.
Her mind drifts to Sam, her boyfriend whom she learned to love deeply after having given in to his advances out of spite. When she asked him to leave England because she could not fight without being sure of his safety, he obeyed without complaining about being left out. Because he believes in her, and that confidence is worth its weight in gold.
After the war, maybe she could talk about marriage... By making sure that the idea comes from him, of course!
“I miss you,”
But not as much as Jacob. They haven’t seen each other for months and he’s already disappeared. As usual. He disappears, she looks for him; they find each other and he runs off into the unknown. Oh, never for the sake of hurting her. A goal always justifies his actions. A goal more noble and ambitious than staying by her side. Always. She exhales her tension with a sigh and pours herself a glass of Firewhisky, which she drinks in one gulp, alcohol burning her bitterness.
She’ll kick his ass when they win.
The witch clenches her fists. Projecting herself into the future will strengthen her resolve to survive in a succession of battles where every wizard who falls under her spells will ensure her survival and everyone else’s. She hopes not to have to fight Barnaby or Ismelda.
A cracking sound startles her. She turns around, drawing her wand and putting it away. It’s Jacob. A shower and clean clothes, and he is back at his best. Only his face keeps the watermark of the last ordeal he endured.
“I haven’t been here for a long time...” he says, his eyes staring disapprovingly at the couch that moved here along with Sam. Jacob never liked him.
“Yeah!” Annie confirms, her voice heavy with reproach.
“Pip... It was too risky. I was undercover!”
Annie has a small incredulous laugh.
“I didn’t see an undercover wizard. I saw a guy we had to get out of a jam! That said, it’s becoming a habit...”
“Your nerves are on edge! Don’t take it out on me, Pip!” he says in a tone that commands respect.
The witch winces. He is right. This is not the time for a brotherly joust. She pours two glasses of Firewhisky and they toast to a ceasefire.
“So you and Merula... Since when?”
“Never mind, it’s over... She betrayed me, tortured... I hate her!”
It is rare for Annie to see Jacob bare his soul. The years of separation because of the cursed vaults have seriously marred their complicity. They tried to find it before they realized that time lost could not be made up for.
Unconsciously, Jacob had wanted to pick up where he left off. But during his absence, the little girl who saw him as a hero had given way to an accomplished witch, an adult before her time. Disillusionment, bitterness… Guilt.
“I bet she didn’t use the Cruciatus Curse?”
A stubborn silence answers.
“She said she would never have succeeded in using that magic against you... Probably because you have to enjoy the suffering of your victim to cast it,” Annie says with a falsely innocent look.
“Stop it! You’re not Mum!”
“She would tell you to listen to me!”
“Of course! You’re the heroine! Me, I’ve gone from child prodigy to the poor, undesirable bastard who is constantly reminded that he was saved by his little sister!”
The lack of recognition and the inability to forget that their parents did not look for him, or so little, after his disappearance in the cursed vaults, eat away at Jacob’s insides like acid. Bruised by these years of absence, Annie’s heart tightens. She remembers all too well the time when the world treated them as outcasts, and when their mother took calming potions to overcome each day without her son, one after the other, so much the pain of having lost him was a torment. As for Dad... Whatever! Nothing was the same after Jacob’s disappearance. Her brother can’t understand.
“They tried to turn the page,” Jacob says, sipping his drink. “it’s a lot easier to do it over a dead body than over a ‘missing’ person who might turn up at any moment! So they did nothing, while turning a blind eye to your research out of cowardice. You were a child! Do you think that’s normal?”
Jacob’s gaze pierces her, so sharp is it. Annie shrugs.
“The question never arose... I looked for you because it was the only thing I could do. Point... Don’t blame anyone for my own choices,”
An impulse pushes her to hug him. This may be the last time, after all.
“And stop blaming yourself too,” she says as he hugs her tightly. “You can’t spend your life blaming yourself for mistakes you made trying to protect me, my brother.”

Magic does exist in Heart of the Horseman. It is not like Harry Potter where it is said by spells or learned.
Only the Fairy Host and the Tuatha Dé Danann have access to any magic. It is defined as mystical, paranormal, or even supernatural in nature.
In Heart of the Horseman, there is an unseen world where creatures such as the Faery host dwell. Prophecy is well documented in Heart of the Horseman. The Lebelle family had visions that a goddess would be born into their family.
Actual magic is rarely seen in the “modern” world. The “fair folk” and the fairy host are able to conjure fire, create light to dispel darkness, read “minds and memory”, able to communicate telepathically, and command nature.
All fair folk are immortal. They can die, but they are reincarnate with their memories intact. The high-born have the ability to see the fairy host and are considered to be more powerful than the lowborn. The Morrigan is one of the most powerful high-born.
Some fair folk and members of the Fairy Host have anthropomorphism. The Morrigan is able to transform into several animals: including a heifer and a black wolf.
If everyone in the world were able to use magic, there would be no witch trials or belief that a woman would exchange her soul for Satan’s assistance and to employ demons to accomplish magical deeds.
If Celeste was able to use magic from the start, she would have had a better chance of escaping the Dullahan. It would change the plot from Kian trying to pursue her.
Tumblr media
❗ Limits
Magic cannot burn snow or other unnatural effects. It can burn natural things.
It is extremely difficult to communicate over long distance. Once Celeste realizes who she is, she will tell Kain through telepathy that it could even be impossible without the scrying pools that the Fair Ones created.
The effects of magic can always be felt by those sensitive to it. These people who are sensitive have been called many things: mediums, psychics, and mystics.
Shapeshifting was extremely rare. Even the most powerful Fair Folks still have difficulties in changing their physical shape. The Morrigan is one of the only ones who are known to have mastered it. Donn is another.

BURNING WITCHES Announce New Album 'The Dark Tower'
Swiss/Dutch all-female heavy metal outfit BURNING WITCHES will release its fifth studio album, "The Dark Tower", on May 5 via Napalm Records. The official music video for the LP's title track can be seen below.
BURNING WITCHES comments: "Wow, that was quick, right? Album No. 5 is already done and we are back with the brand-new single 'The Dark Tower'. The title track of the new record will fit perfectly into our set list with its relentless beat, the truly epic riffs and the striking but melodic vocals!
"The theme of Elizabeth Bathory and her infamous 'blood countess' reputation was a fantastic inspiration for a breathtaking video clip. We all could relate to the story and its creepy saga and knew from the beginning it would be a new highlight in the WITCHES history!
"Last but not least, we want to thank the fans that supported us here and played the extras, in this very emotional and creepy little ride! Enjoy the clip!"
"The Dark Tower" track listing:
01. Rise Of Darkness 02. Unleash The Beast 03. Renegade 04. Evil Witch 05. World On Fire 06. Tomorrow 07. House Of Blood 08. The Dark Tower 09. Heart Of Ice 10. Arrow Of Time 11. Doomed To Die 12. Into The Unknown 13. The Lost Souls
BURNING WITCHES are:
Laura Guldemond - Vocals Romana Kalkuhl - Guitars Larissa Ernst - Guitars Jeanine Grob - Bass Lala Frischknecht - Drums
BURNING WITCHES' first live performance with Guldemond took place in June 2019 at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden.
The vocalist of the Dutch symphonic metal band SHADOWRISE, Guldemond was recruited by BURNING WITCHES following the departure of Seraina Telli.
In a 2021 interview with Femme Metal Webzine, Guldemond stated about how she joined BURNING WITCHES: "Since the previous guitarist of BURNING WITCHES was already an acquaintance of mine, when they were looking for a new singer, she proposed it to me because I know that I would fit the band. You know, I have the voice, I love the old-school metal and I was already having the same style. In the end, it felt like a natural match. Then I sent a couple of recordings and submitted them for my audition."
In a separate interview with Ireland's Overdrive, Laura spoke about her vocal inspirations. "It's difficult to choose one because I have so many vocalists that I really love," she said. "For example, when I started to really take my singing seriously, I would look at singing in a clean melodic voice and also in a distorted voice and I've got a lot of respect for singers that specialize in both of those styles. Like Lzzy Hale [HALESTORM], she has a very tough and strong vocal technique that I love, because of her husky, distorted delivery, but then there's Sia, who's a pop singer but has a voice that I really like. I really love many vocalists, and in some ways, I am inspired by a little bit of all the vocalists I admire and enjoy. That’s one of the very cool things about BURNING WITCHES — we have a lot happening in the music and are very versatile when it comes to melody and sound."

I’m really curious about Sellan and Afleis. I know they’re a ravenclaw and slytherin pairing but which one is which? How did they meet? What’s the history behind their families? Is there somewhere I can read their full story?
Ah, sorry, I don't have their full story nowhere except in my head, I'm not a writer and English is not my even second language :(
But! I still can answer all questions and I'll be happy to, because it shows that people are interested in my babies enough to think about them! Here you go:
1). Selan is a Slytherin and Afelis is a Ravenclaw(even if he still questions the Hat's choice and on his last years he was called a "Prince of Ravenclaw")
2). They've met on their second year at Hogwarts in one of castle's corridors after the curfew. Afelis' got lost(again) and wandered pretty far away from Ravenclaw's dorm, was terrified near passing out lvl and was looking for at least someone who will bring him back to bed. Selan was knowingly breaking rules, seeking for something(also challenging himself to not be caught). Long story short, they've met there, Afelis tried to clung to Selan, he was not interested in saving him, and then they both where caught by Gryffindor prefect. Selan got his first detention and Afelis now was terrified for his life because it seems he got himself a first enemy and it wasn't anyone but Slytherin and one of de Crema twins and it wasn't a female one. He was even more terrified of Selan than their detention on the Forbidden Forest's edge.
3). Serridge is a pure-blood family from Northern Ireland with incredible talent to transfiguration and charms. It's a pretty big family, even if most of it now lives in USA, main root of it still lives in the UK. Afelis' father was not a last person in the Wizarding politics, aiming for the place of Minister of Magic. His mom is from pure-blood wizard family from East Europe. Unfortunately, 2 weeks after Afelis got his letter from Hogwarts, there was an absolute bold attack on his family. Manor burned to the ground, taking his dad's life with it(also some of his other relatives and house elfs), living Afelis with terrible scars that can't be healed and they respond to every use of the same curse from the same wand. His mother was tortured by both Imperio and Cruciatus and soon she started showing symptoms of mental instability and on his 3d year in school she was placed in St Mungo's hospital. Afelis is the only male heir of the main root of the Serridge family.
de Cremá is a french pure-blood wizard family with strong roots in Italy. Rich, honorable and proud of themselves, they definitely have some connections to the Malfoy family. And imagine what kind of scandal it was when the twins where born, because they are half-blood. Their mother was one of daughters of the head of the family that brought those bastards in the family. Twins don't even know how she looked or her full name, because of their family wrath they burned all her portraits and everything that had her name on it, banishing her from the family, but leaving kids to themselves. They know nothing about their father, only that he was a "filthy mud-blood" and that Selan is the same as his father(Grandma's words). Unfortunately their family's rules not allowed them to hide twins as an ugly secret, so they have their family name on them. Both Selan and Gelia where send off to England to not dishonor de Crema's name even more in Beauxbatons. Their grandma(the head of the family) hates Selan pretty badly, Gelia has much easier life. Selan thinks it's because he's a boy and resemblances his father(also he has a heavy personality, give him a finger and he will bite it off to the elbow). He was raised by his 5 aunts and it was hell on earth. Unfortunately, that affected his relationship with his sister, he almost hates her enough to physically hurt. And that fact that she's much weaker witch than him is not making it easier.

I knowww this is a long shot to ask about on Tumblr of all places but I was just reading about Bridget Cleary, aka the last witch of Ireland, and something that kept coming up in my readings is how many people with the last name Kennedy were in her direct family so, uh, is Kennedy that common of an Irish last name, or are the Kennedys all distantly related to the last woman burned as a witch in Ireland

“Oh, Merlin, tell me, does THE SOCIALITE get what she deserves?” She is NEUTRAL & CLOSED to finding out.“
— she walks through the world as ;
name → rosaline davis pronouns → she/her identification → cis-female year of birth → september 1958 - september 1959 face claim → grace van-patten blood status → pure-blood sexual orientation → up to applicant occupation → socialite amongst high society in wizarding london future information → wife of fionn macmillan, mother of ernest macmillan, aunt of tracey davis
— she is best described as ;
Lip GLOSS, GLASSIER than a FROZEN LAKE, she is the kind of woman you think you already know. ETHEREAL and wondrous to behold, she’s a MEAN girl with no SUBSTANCE, an OIL PAINTING with no DEPTH. But she has an inner FIRE that BURNS in a BLAZE. She is FEISTY & HEADSTRONG, though it has long been CONCEALED behind a BEAUTIFUL MASK, she has long learned how to PAINT on with expertise. She is BEAUTY, she is GRACE. She is a woman afraid of her own RAGE.
— her story starts with ;
tw: abuse
Concealment has long been the motto of the Davis family, possibly because they've been trying to stop their dirty laundry getting aired for generations. Blue-blooded as far back as history books have recorded. Nevertheless their long and traceable bloodline has made them an important family in wizarding high society. Rosaline has never felt the need to live up to expectations set by her family, and has tried to live her life according to her own set of rules, despite the headache it has often caused her parents. To Rosaline, CORDELIA DAVIS [sibling] and AJAX DAVIS [sibling] are the ones to continue the family line and take control of her estate and their family business. The Davis family owned the exclusive Moribund’s in Knockturn Alley, opened up by her grandparents after they moved from Kerry. Moribund’s had a very long waiting list and a very specific door policy. Learning about the right way to set a table, the correct silver to use and the right people to have on a guestlist have always been very boring subjects to Rosaline. She loved art and she longed to take her place in the world of artists beloved by the wizarding world.
In her home she would take in the beautiful oil portraits that moved and spoke to her, asking them questions about their lives long before they were trapped in time. The process interested her the most, and alone in the conservatory after lessons had concluded on a warm afternoon, she would paint the landscape, pots of flowers or her brother and sister sitting out on the lawn. Being from a high born wizarding family, her parents often tried to wrangle her passion, attempting to steer her towards a career in the ministry. No matter how many arguments it took, Rosaline knew she wouldn’t budge and the sooner her parents understood the better. After Hogwarts she would visit Venice and Paris, seeing the art of the world and painting her beloved Ireland, where she one day longed to return. Sorted into Slytherin house she allowed herself to be collected by NARCISSA BLACK [close friend] and endured the whispering and the girlish backstabbing that occurred between her and the rest of their ‘friends’, ELEANOR YAXLEY [close friend], ZARINA ZABINI [close friend], VALERIA BULSTRODE [close friend] and KLAUDIE BURKE [best friend].
Often, the people she associated with felt like colleagues rather than people she genuinely enjoyed spending time with, the only person who really understood that about her was Klaudie. Popularity did suit her, however and with her nose often removed from the drama she established herself as a cool witch, which hadn’t gone unnoticed by the popular boys in Slytherin. RABASTAN LESTRANGE [former partner] was her first boyfriend. She was attracted to him because he was dangerous and someone she thought her parents wouldn’t like, but then they heard his last name and liked him a little too much, so she had to show him the door. Little did she know what was coming. The fall of the Davis family could be likened to dominos, one falling after the other with no way to stop it. Cordelia had always been dependable, the good girl who did what mummy and daddy had said, until she quit the family to become a healer. To most the profession was respectable, but to her mother and father it was sheer scandal. Her father then took that as the moment to take his leave by running off with the head waitress at Moribund’s.
She was pretty, single and twenty-five. Rosaline had never been fond of her parents, mostly due to their controlling nature, but she’d never considered either of them to be bad people until her father showed his cards. Her mother was heartbroken, but not by her father’s betrayal. Marriage was a strong symbol of status in the wizarding world. No one separated and even the worst of couples stayed together for the show of it all. For a long time she lied about where he was, but rumours began to circle and eventually a tell-all in RITA SKEETER’s [adversary] Scandal Sheets exposed the family. Where her brother had often been the person of reason in many of these cases, his brain had now been turned to mush by a girl he was seeing. A half-blood, much to her mother’s disgust. Her once headstrong brother reduced to being a puppet on a set of strings, consumed with puppy love and not caring who asked any questions. With numbers at Moribund’s declining Rosaline made a choice. If her name meant nothing and people weren’t paying membership, the chances of her making it in the art world were very slim.
Putting her plans on hold Rosaline transformed herself into a socialite, attending all the biggest parties in the city and cashing in on those important connections she’d made at school. Suddenly Narcissa saw her as a rival and she was on the radar of girls like GENEVIEVE AVERY [acquaintance] and ANDRESSA PARKINSON [acquaintance]. This was all quite meaningless to her, but she preferred people to write about anything other than her family troubles. The Minister’s son HARRISON BAGNOLD [partner] taking an interest in her, certainly did that. A renown philanderer, Rosaline rolled her eyes when he asked her on a date but her mother had insisted she accept him. They were a beautiful couple and Harrison showed her off like the most rare jewel in his collection. He was proud to be with her, as she should be, but Rosaline could tell he loved the idea of her more than he loved who she was. At times Rosaline had tried to add depth to their relationship, but Harrison didn’t like her voice when it was raised or eyes when they showed anything but love. In the end she found her life was easier if she simply stopped trying to be herself around him.
After the Summer Soltice Ball everything was different. Her evening was normal until, MARLENE MCKINNON [adversary] crucioed her. When she woke up in hospital Harrison seemed different. He was staying back longer at work and secretive about his activities. Trying to occupy her mind and distract her from her lonliness, over New Year she visited Dublin with her siblings away from prying eyes. That was were they met. Their gaze locked over the roses once. Then again in The Changeling pub were he bought her a pint and dedicated a song to her. At a party on New Year’s Eve, she wore a white dress she’d painted like a canvas and FIONN MACMILLAN [potential love interest] told her she looked like art. He dared her to kiss him under the fireworks and afterwards they parted ways into the night without her knowing his name. Back in London in her lonliness she’s considered the moment, craving the attention to distract her from the drama of her troublesome brother, socially shun sister, runaway father and secretive boyfriend. At times, alone and holding her champagne, sometimes she finds her eyes wandering, hoping to catch a familiar face in the crowd.
— she is a LEVEL 6 WITCH & readied for war ;

You're right, I didn't ask for my friend's input regarding my path or the deities that I work with. It was so random and I was at work at the time and we're super busy so all I could respond with was, "How do you figure?," because there's a part of me that wants to know more just to see where this person's frame of mind is. I forgot that this is the same person who believes in starseeds and indigo children. I'm pretty sure that I just did the equivalent of a smile-and-nod because I was just really surprised and had never heard of this one before and I have a difficult time trying to tell people off on things that I am not familiar with. To me it definitely holds a dangerous mindset that can have terrible consequences. I fully agree with the whole speaking for deities because that was my first thought. Had this been a random person I'd have likely told them my thoughts but given that it was a friend that I had forgotten was even into this stuff, it threw me off. I feel like I really need to say something to my friend because this is just adding on to a bunch of things that are constant red flags. If I am not mistaken, this is the same friend who also thinks that L*lith is a goddess and is okay to work with and works especially for her. I just wish that I could be as vocal and as strong as you or as I talk to my dad about these issues because when it comes to confronting people who are my buddies, I just get scared, and I know that it's the wrong response to have. What I NEED to do is have the same fire and conviction that I did when I finally went off on a person for trying to tell me what Anubis thinks and how repainting a figure of Anubis is like defacing the Bible, and the person wasn't even a pagan or a witch and thinks that the Burning Times happened and that Wicca is an ancient religion and I just need THAT fire of a response. Even if I lose a friend. Because, honestly, whenever stuff like this happens, it just immediately makes me feel uncomfortable and less willing to share my pagan path with even my friends.
"I'm not sure if I mentioned it in my last ask, but my friend brought up Irish and Scottish heritage being something that the Egyptian deities just love working with due to a Princess Scotia and that person founded Scotland and Ireland. I haven't found anything that states that this was anything more than a myth/legend. But somehow, if you're this, the Egyptian deities just love working with you more. As she told me, the deities she works with from Egypt "call her people 'the sons and daughters of Scotia'." Mind you, she's American, like me and has Irish heritage. I do not. I just feel a really strong connection with Anubis that feels like it came out of nowhere and I feel really anxious about people feeding me stuff that just feels dangerous. I likely had the worst response ever to her, which was just trying to find out more about what she believed in and in the end the conversation went nowhere. For the last two weeks I've been dealing with getting sick twice, my dad getting sick, and work which has had my stress and anxiety level way too high, so I haven't been able to formulate any sort of intelligent response. That and the fact that I'm concerned that when people tell me "don't let anyone dictate to you your pagan path and how you work with your deities" also applies to my friend and so I shouldn't judge, There's a part of me that wants to just take my whole connection with Anubis to her just to see how she'd react to it, but at the same time, it's a highly sensitive and serious matter for me that I haven't even brought up in its entirety with my bestie for the fact that I'd rather work on it by myself and I'm just, I guess for a lack of a better word... scared."
I feel like it's always more difficult to confront friends than strangers or familiy members (as long as one isn't dependent on them anymore that is). So please don't feel bad if you weren't able to voice your thoughts and feelings during a talk.
There is always the option to circle back to that when you've thought about it and feel like you want to talk about it. And there's also always the option to not talk about something. You're allowed to agree to disagree. If that friendship makes you not feel good or safe I'm wondering if it's a healthy friendship for you to stay in though. And I'm saying this as someone who has let go of so-called friends and has also kicked a family member out of her life as a teenager.
So I know how that's being easier said than done but so far there are no regrets and it has helped me greatly. Not saying you should break off the friendship though!
Hopefully you were able to relax and recharge these past few days. Even better if you're still able to do so until next year.

Last Season on Faerune:
Ezra was born outside of Faerune in Ireland, but he doesn’t remember much about their time there, as he moved to Faeurne with their mother when he was three years old. His mother had grown up in the city, and after living in the human realm for a decade, she had decided she wanted to raise her child near her family and the magic of the Feywild.
Things were good until one day the apartment complex they lived in caught fire. Six people had been killed, Ezra’s mother included. They were only nine years old at the time of the fire. With his only familial options being deemed as unfit, too unwell, to be granted guardianship, he was placed into the foster care system.
During their time in the custody of their foster parents, Ezra, along with his foster siblings, suffered forms of abuse. Ezra’s own had been physical, some of which lead to permanent scars, including one on their cheek. While his mother had encouraged them to learn and explore their abilities as a witch, they’d only just started coming into them before she passed, he was kept from practicing their magic, and even actively punished for doing so when he tried, or they found something ‘witchy’ that belonged to them.
He was 13 when he was placed back into the system after the authorities shut the foster home down, following the arrest of his foster brother, Ryan. The next few years he spent bouncing around from home to home, until finally landing permanently in one at 16 with Tawny and Daniella Ingerman. It was in this home that for the first time since before his mother had died that they were really able to practice their magic. While he wasn’t punished in the previous foster homes he bounced around so much, he wasn’t exactly in a stable position to practice.
At the age of 22 is when Ezra first started losing their hearing. At first it was barely noticeable to him, and it was a gradual loss. They started to attend group therapy, which is where he met, and befriended, one Cameron Romero, and started learning about deaf and hard of hearing culture. At the same time as going, Ezra started trying to find if there was a potion or spell that could stop him from continuing to lose his hearing. When they couldn’t find one, he set to trying to create one himself. Over the past year their loss of hearing has suddenly escalated, leaving him nearly 80% deaf in his right ear and around 40-45% deaf in the left.
After an attempt to heal himself with a potion he'd created on their own, Ezra was left fully deaf in the right ear, and over 50% deaf in the left, as well as hearing a constant faint buzz-like humming sound.
This Season on Faerune:
Ezra hasn't actually thought much about the dome or the Unseelie as they've had enough personal changes to think about over the past year. They continued to become more adjusted to their increased hearing loss and after a few months were finally convinced to get a hearing aid. They just have the one, but they had Sam put some enchantments on it, such as making it waterproof.
They've continued to spend time with their foster siblings and Cam, and more time with Sam, getting to know her and the other helping them with his magic some. They've also been growing in their magic skills, especially when it comes to transfiguration/transformation spells. He is still reluctant when it comes to fire magic, despite it coming quite naturally as well. They aren't quite ready to tackle where this reluctance and fear comes from, which is part of why they haven't gone back to regularly seeing Grace yet.

Witch Bloodline Names from Salem, England, Norway and More
Tumblr media
posted by : kitty fields
If you’ve ever wondered if you descend from a line of witches, you could be right! Do you have a family tree you can access? If so, finding your witch ancestors will be easy. If not, what you’ll do is write down your family’s last names – your last name (which is typically your father’s), your mother’s maiden name, her mother’s maiden name, your father’s mother’s maiden name, etc. Gather as many of these last names as you can, then compare against the witch bloodline names listed here! It also helps if you have a general idea of where your family originates. For example – Earlys are from Ireland, Fosters are from England, etc.
Before We Start: Please Note!
Before diving into your family’s history and comparing to the witch bloodline names below, you have to discern whether you believe these ancestors were witches or not. Many of the accused “witches” plead guilty to lessen their sentence, be freed, or they were tortured into “confessing”. It is possible that some of these people were witches at the most basic level because some were considered wise men or women who used herbs to heal and divination to help find lost objects, etc. Do your research on witch bloodline names that match your own and determine from there whether or not you descend from a real “witch”.
Salem Witch Bloodline Names
Tumblr media
Keep in mind, some of these names are of the convicted, while some were accused and either escaped or died in jail before conviction. ALSO, I did not include the maiden names of the married women. If you’re serious, you might want to check out the married Salem witches’ maiden names too! If you have one of the Salem witches’ names in your family, you could be a descendant from the Salem witch bloodline. Next you’ll want to build your family tree online at ancestry or elsewhere and search for an ancestor to confirm.

German & Swiss Witch Bloodlines
Perhaps you had a German or Swiss ancestor who was accused and/or executed for witchcraft. Check out the names of the German and Swiss witch bloodlines below. Be aware that there were thousands of German witches executed during the Medieval and Early Modern Era whose names were never recorded. They were often documented as “a young girl of nine”, “the prettiest woman in town”, “the rich woman”, “the reverend of…” So even if you don’t see your ancestral names in the witch bloodline names, still doesn’t mean you aren’t descended from witches. I’ve combined the two (German and Swiss) because of proximity.
Tumblr media
Poland Witch Bloodline Names
There were indeed Witch Trials in Poland, the same as Germany and Eastern Europe. In fact, the last person accused and executed for witchcraft in Poland was as recent as the early eighteen hundreds. Her name was Barbara Zdunk. In addition, Maciej and Katarzyna Beret were accused and tried for witchcraft and supposedly “enchanting” their neighbors’ cows. Anna Szwedyczka‘s case was a high profile case in Poland. She was executed by burning in 1678.
Northern European Witch Bloodline Names
In this list, I am including witches from the Scandinavian and Northern European countries. The entire continent endured such tragedy, and the Northern European countries were no strangers to the Witch Hunts that ravaged the people.

Now What? How to Honor Your Witch Ancestors
So you found one of your familial names on the witch bloodline names list…now what? I suggest researching everything you can about that particular witch ancestor. Google it. Often Wikipedia pages with information on the Witch Trials have taken their information from books and other resources. Check the bottom of the Wikipedia pages for the Bibliography section. Read those books. Read and read some more.
Record your findings in your journal, BOS, or in your family tree! Another way to honor your witch ancestors, study the ancient culture of his/her people and also the culture at the time of his/her life. Cook the food your ancestors might have cooked. Set up an altar for your witch ancestor and honor him/her with candlelight, prayer, incense, and other appropriate offerings. Listen to their music.
Ancestral Witchcraft: Does it Matter?
If you find a witch ancestor in documents or not, it doesn’t really matter. It is a fun and cool thing to find one, yes, but you can still practice ancestral witchcraft. Study your ancestors’ ways, wherever they are from. Incorporate those ways into your daily life and spiritual path. The thing is – if you go back far enough in time, everyone had pagan ancestors, some of whom were priests and priestesses. Some were shamans and druids. Some were witch doctors and midwives. Everyone has at least ONE of these magical people in their heritage, whether we can find proof of it or not.
Witch Ancestors Series: More to Come!
I barely scratched the surface of the witch bloodline names in America and Europe, so please stay tuned. I plan to write in-depth articles on each country’s Witch Trials and bloodlines, including the regions not mentioned above (Eastern European, Baltic, Basque, etc.) If this generates enough interest, I will also write an article on witch ancestors from all over the world. Have you found any witches in your family tree? If so, how do you honor them?

Celebrating Black Sci-Fi & Fantasy
It's Black History Month and it has already been a crazy ride. Book bans rage across the country trying to silence diverse voices while our country uplifts and celebrates Black History & Culture. For this month I want to celebrate Black SciFi & Fantasy and share some of my favorite reads the past few years.
First I have to share the amazing anthology, edited by Patrice Caldwell, that brought 16 authors together in a book full of Black Sci-Fi goodness.
A Phoenix First Must Burn edited by Patrice Caldwell
Sixteen tales by bestselling and award-winning authors that explore the Black experience through fantasy, science fiction, and magic. Evoking Beyoncé’s Lemonade for a teen audience, these authors who are truly Octavia Butler’s heirs, have woven worlds to create a stunning narrative that centers Black women and gender nonconforming individuals. A Phoenix First Must Burn will take you on a journey from folktales retold to futuristic societies and everything in between. Filled with stories of love and betrayal, strength and resistance, this collection contains an array of complex and true-to-life characters in which you cannot help but see yourself reflected. Witches and scientists, sisters and lovers, priestesses and rebels: the heroines of A Phoenix First Must Burn shine brightly. You will never forget them. Authors include Elizabeth Acevedo, Amerie, Dhonielle Clayton, Jalissa Corrie, Somaiya Daud, Charlotte Davis, Alaya Dawn Johnson, Justina Ireland, Danny Lore, L.L. McKinney, Danielle Paige, Rebecca Roanhorse, Karen Strong, Ashley Woodfolk, and Ibi Zoboi.
Next I have to share Tomi Adeyemi's Legacy of Orisha trilogy, the first book being Children of Blood & Bone. The second book, Children of Virtue & Vengeance, was just as good and I'm eagerly awaiting the last book of the trilogy.
Children of Blood & Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
They killed my mother. They took our magic. They tried to bury us. Now we rise. Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls. But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope. Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good. Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for an enemy.
I have to add Tracy Deonn's Legendborn to this list because this book was so much fun! The sequel, Bloodmarked comes out in November and I honestly can't wait.
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
After her mother dies in an accident, sixteen-year-old Bree Matthews wants nothing to do with her family memories or childhood home. A residential program for bright high schoolers at UNC–Chapel Hill seems like the perfect escape—until Bree witnesses a magical attack her very first night on campus. A flying demon feeding on human energies. A secret society of so called “Legendborn” students that hunt the creatures down. And a mysterious teenage mage who calls himself a “Merlin” and who attempts—and fails—to wipe Bree’s memory of everything she saw. The mage’s failure unlocks Bree’s own unique magic and a buried memory with a hidden connection: the night her mother died, another Merlin was at the hospital. Now that Bree knows there’s more to her mother’s death than what’s on the police report, she’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth, even if that means infiltrating the Legendborn as one of their initiates. She recruits Nick, a self-exiled Legendborn with his own grudge against the group, and their reluctant partnership pulls them deeper into the society’s secrets—and closer to each other. But when the Legendborn reveal themselves as the descendants of King Arthur’s knights and explain that a magical war is coming, Bree has to decide how far she’ll go for the truth and whether she should use her magic to take the society down—or join the fight.
Lastly I want to add two debuts that I have not read yet, but are sitting on my TBR pile. Both have receive rave reviews and I can't wait to lose myself in these unique stories that reflect Blackness.
Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen
A way to survive.
A way to serve.
A way to save.
Simi prayed to the gods, once. Now she serves them as Mami Wata--a mermaid--collecting the souls of those who die at sea and blessing their journeys back home.
But when a living boy is thrown overboard, Simi goes against an ancient decree and does the unthinkable--she saves his
life
. And punishment awaits those who dare to defy the gods.
To protect the other Mami Wata, Simi must journey to the Supreme Creator to make amends. But all is not as it seems. There's the boy she rescued, who knows more than he should. And something is shadowing Simi, something that would rather see her fail . . .
Danger lurks at every turn, and as Simi draws closer, she must brave vengeful gods, treacherous lands, and legendary creatures. Because if she fails, she risks not only the fate of all Mami Wata, but also the world as she knows it.
Within These Wicked Walls by Lauren Blackwood
What the heart desires, the house destroys...
Andromeda is a debtera—an exorcist hired to cleanse households of the Evil Eye. When a handsome young heir named Magnus Rochester reaches out to hire her, Andromeda quickly realizes this is a job like no other, with horrifying manifestations at every turn, and that Magnus is hiding far more than she has been trained for. Death is the most likely outcome if she stays, but leaving Magnus to live out his curse alone isn’t an option. Evil may roam the castle’s halls, but so does a burning desire.
