Last Legacy headcanons 💫

Fun hcs I felt like making because I miss last legacy and desperately want them to come back

Felix’s favorite board game is scrabble (and he always wins. Sage will no longer play with him)

My Journey To You - Thoughts and Impressions Part 1 of 2

I realise that I've been missing these past few months, i've been on a consumption binge but with little to no bandwidth to write about any show/film irrespective of how much I may have loved them. (depression is an ass) But I can, once again, feel thoughts tingling in my brain and I've decided to get back to writing, something that I deeply enjoy. Anyway, enough about me, let's get started.

To keep the post from getting obscenely long, I'm going to split it into two. This post will be about the technical aspects of the show. Part 2 will focus on the characters.

My Journey To You is a 2023 fantasy, Wuxia show (shows/films that are based in ancient China with martial arts warriors being capable of superhuman feats, like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). It was highly anticipated owing to the amazing trailer (one of the best I've seen)

In the eerie and treacherous Gong residence, she encounters love and friendship, embarks on a journey of self-discovery, and finds the determination to move forward. I'll talk about everything I liked before I get into the stuff that I didn't.

Right off the bat, this show has some of the most gorgeous characters you'll come across and this applies to both the men and the women. The costume and make-up departments do an amazing job making already attractive people look ridiculously attractive. They also help the actors really inhabit the world seamlessly. The costumes are especially incredibly detailed and intricate, you can see the care that went into crafting the look for each of these characters. Shout-out to Huang Wei (costume designer) and Shi Hui (Make-up)

One of the best aspects of the show is the cinematography by Wei Hong. This show is aesthetically beautiful, so many absolutely stunning shots. Chinese shows (and Korean shows) love slow-motion shots, and while at times, it can be a bit much, this show makes great use of them, especially during the fight scenes.

The cinematography is helped to a great extent by the excellent production design, courtesy Jiyao Zhang. Like the costumes, the production design too is detailed and intricate. The world feels fully realised and yet also lived in. Each of the different clan mansions, the Front Hill and Back Hill are so incredibly different and distinct that you can immediately tell where you are. An insane amount of hard work went into the show and it shows in every frame.

You can tell that they had a good budget to work with and every bit of it was spent on making the show look as stylized as possible, there is not an ounce of realism to be found here, cue slow-motion beautiful hair flying shots. (Every day I bemoan my inability to make gifs) But the screencaps below illustrate the beauty of the show, it's so gorgeous that you could literally use screencaps as wallpapers.

The fight scenes in the show are some of the best I've seen. They are intense and thrilling and always coherent, you can always tell who's fighting who. The fight scenes are also so aesthetically pleasing, like an exceptionally deadly dance.

Now, we come to the not-so-great stuff.

First off, the marketing. The show was marketed and advertised as an action fantasy show and while there is action and it is excellent, it's not an "action" show. The main focus of the show is on the characters and the internal power struggle of the Gong family. There are also whole scenes, sometimes making up the bulk of an entire episode which are just conversations. I've seen a lot of viewers disappointed and it makes sense. they thought they were coming for action and instead they got verbose conversations.

The pacing also comes to a near-halt in some of these scenes and instead we're treated to lengthy expositions which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it becomes tedious when it happens repetitively.

Now, let's come to the worst thing about the show, it's ending, specifically the last 5 minutes. This end is ridiculously mindbogglingly bad when you consider that there is almost no confirmation on a 2nd season. It's just such a bad idea to end on a cliffhanger like this. If they wanted to leave things open for a potential 2nd season, they could have ended with the Wufeng elders coming together at that character's home, possibly to hold them ransom or something, like literally anything else.

if you're planning on watching this show and I do recommend it, keep in mind that it does get slow and don't watch the last 5 mins of the show. Trust me, you'll like the show a whole lot more if you follow that approach.

Birthstones: November🍂

November's birthstones, imperial topaz and citrine, are the colour of autumn leaves. Quite fitting! Let’s discuss their physical and metaphysical properties as we begin the month.

Golden Topaz

Topaz, consisting of aluminum hydroxy-fluorosilicate (Al₂(SiO₄)(F,OH)₂), displays a diverse range of colors. Imperial topaz, also called glden topaz, owes its colours to different impurites, and may also be heated or irradiated to make the colour more vivid. Topaz also exhibits pleochroism: its color alters when viewed from different angles.

Imperial topaz' golden colours are said to attracted prosperity, abundance, and luxury. It is also thought to enhance visualisation, creativity, and generosity, as well as strengthening will, promoting personal growth, and confidence in one's abilities. It benefits general health and eyesight, particularly the endocrine glands, gallbladder, liver, and kidneys.

While topaz ranks a high 8 on the Mohs hardness scale, it is easily broken due to its poor cleavage. Sudden temperature changes may also cause it to break. Its colour is generally stable in sunlight, but prolonged exposure may cause fading or yellowing. This is the case especially with irradiated crystals. Clean topaz only with warm, soapy water.

Citrine

Citrine is a type of quartz, a mineral made of silicon dioxide (SiO₂). It is made when amethyst or smoky quartz are heated up in the Earth's crust. This heating, along with the iron present in its structure, causes the yellowish colour. Natural citrine is relatively rare; most citrine on the market is heat treated amethyst or smoky quartz. The easiest tell between the two is both colour and presentation: real citrine is rarely a deep orange, nor does it come on a stark white geode.

Citrine, being yellow, is associated with the sun, providing warmth, comfort, energy, vitality, and optimism. As well, citrine is associated with imagination, personal will, creativity, and productivity. It may support interpersonal relationships, promotes problem-solving, and shields against negativity. It is thought to attract wealth, prosperity, and success, while also encouraging generosity and sharing good fortune. Citrine is believed to transmute negative energy and dissipate it while not accumulating it. Physically, Citrine boosts stamina, supports the endocrine system, aids digestion, and promotes healthy skin, nails, and hair. It is also believed to reduce depression, increase self-esteem, and aid in decision-making.

Like all quartz, citrine is a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, and due to a lack of cleavage, won't break any time soon. However, since citrine's colour is due to heat, further heat can discolour it. Sunlight as well may discolour it. Warm, soapy water is best for cleaning citrine.

I wrote a thing.

It’s just a short thing. But I enjoyed it. I hope you do too.

Soft chestnut curls, honey warm eyes, pink lips curved into a slight smile, a slight omega body looking lost in the ornately carved oak chair of the King.

The King’s Council had convened without the King eager to make decisions in his absence. The King had been called away urgently, an attack on a trade route had drew his attention.

The King was good and fair but he was young, and his reputation brutal. He was as skilled with a sword as he was with a knife and he foiled no less than five assassination attempts the night his father was killed. James fought until daybreak, his body covered in blood; blood that dripped into the pure white snow.

They called him the Winter Soldier and bowed at his feet after the rebellion ended. He was crowned King days later.

He was hard to manipulate, better to make decisions he couldn’t reverse in his absence. They didn’t count on the omega King consort turning up, but here he sat smiling and distractible.

They turned it to a game, bombarding him with information, changing the subject quickly, raising their own agendas, occasionally talking over each other. Peter’s head was on a swivel, turning to each of them to listen, nodding, having his questions interrupted with useless information.

As one they stopped, turning to him, expecting decisions, smug in the knowledge the omega King consort would never darken this door again and dare to think he was their equal, or worse, superior. He was the omega bitch of King James and they would soon remind him of it.

‘The dairy farm tax should be reduced in accordance with reduced milk prices. We need to encourage a year of less production to even out the market,’ Peter decided.

The men gaped and stared, until one cocky nobles lips turned to a sneer. ‘And how is that possible?’

‘Easy. The largest producers cut their breeding programme, a few less calves should do the trick. And more trade, I know for a fact that our neighbours are in no such position,’ Peter scribbled a note down. ‘We sell the milk.’

‘Easy for you to say when-‘

‘A market fair, we’ll host one and propose our neighbours do the same. There will be trading but a chance to have fun too and it will do much to strengthen relationships,’ Peter caught his tongue between his teeth. ‘Okay next was the soldiers pay on the boarders, so I want you to bring myself or the King a proposal for improving the conditions first. Happier soldiers demand less so…’

And on it went until Peter had decided on every issue. The council grew more sullen and as the sun travelled past the tall windows Peter talked and shared thoughtful and clever ideas.

It galled them, the King had married a match, someone they hoped would distract him. Instead the boy was an extension of the King, they shared a voice, wisdom. They shared values and morals.

Eventually the council dispersed and Peter hurried to his rooms. He didn’t expect to find his husband waiting for him.

Bucky was tall, menacing, and power rolled off him in waves. A glance his way earned him instant respect, and with his reputation no one dared challenge or test him. Most feared him and his cold reputation and seeing the beautiful bubbly omega marry the dark brooding alpha gave many concerns for the omegas safety.

‘Babe!’ Peter cried bouncing into Bucky’s arms.

Bucky grunted and Peter watched the ice in his eyes melt as his legs curled around Bucky’s waist. He peppered the alphas face with kisses and rambled about his afternoon.

Bucky listened, grunting in occasional annoyance. He carried them both to the bathroom, let his husband bathe him as he talked. Peter loved to take care of Bucky.

‘We’ll eat in our rooms,’ Bucky was gruff but Peter bounced around the room, drying off, applying creams and combing his and his husbands hair.

‘I can’t reach the top,’ Peter complained.

With a huff Bucky fell to his knees and let Peter comb his hair. It didn’t take long for Bucky to lean closer, to mouth at Peter’s body.

The comb fell forgotten as the alpha King worshipped his omega on his knees, in his rightful place.

Crisis in Russia (NYT/AP) A long-running feud over the invasion of Ukraine between the Russian military and Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of Russia’s private Wagner military group, escalated into an open confrontation. Prigozhin accused Russia of attacking his soldiers and appeared to challenge one of President Vladimir Putin’s main justifications for the war, and Russian generals in turn accused him of trying to mount a coup against Putin.
