Why I think Spider noir is on the younger side(18-20) in the new spiderverse movie per my previous post:
Let’s break it down by Context, Timeline, Mood, and ATSV
Context:
Spider noir has two comic runs that happen before COMICS spiderverse. With that said, there were like inter dimensional energy vampires and that’s obviously not the direction the spiderverse movies went with. So we’re going to largely disregard them for this. To expand, there was a big time jump between that last noir comic and the spiderverse ones. Peter would be closer to mid/late 20s at the start of the comics spiderverse and therefore ITSV if we were to integrate and replace the timelines, BUT I always hated the way they did that time jump in the comics and what it did to Peter’s character.
It felt like they were trying to tie him into 616 Peter wayyyy too much by making his love interest MJ(who we rlly haven’t seen and what we have seen hasn’t had good chemistry), have a good relationship with May(they rlly brushed him shooting someone in front of her and calling him an animal under the rug Huh), and going to college(I get it I do, but unlike most universes I don’t think this Peter could ever stop spiderman enough). There wasn't really any mention of Felicia, Urich, or Robby and their past. They also changed his webbing, his look, and his spider senses.
I felt like that was completely getting rid of all of Peter's characterization and he just becomes the spider with a gun from the 1930s. But the point is they clearly went in a very different artistic and narrative direction after the time jump to a point where it doesn’t feel like the same character.
Refitting the timeline:
So, scrapping the comics spiderverse timeline, I don’t really see a reason for a disjointed time jump. And after those first two comic runs it can be argued, for this Peter, that ITSV happens much sooner for him after that second run, possibly even after the first comic. Then ATSV would happen after that second run. There is an 8mo. time jump between the two runs so it is definitely feasible.
But let’s talk about mood between the runs.
We all know at least somewhat this Peter's origin, and if you don’t, to sum it up: organized crime, monsters, socialism, cannibalism.
The first run ends, Peter beats the goblin without killing him and he’s feeling pretty good about himself/confident. But he’s still got a lot of well deserved angst and self hatred. His uncle is dead, his new mentor/father figure is dead, his relationship with May is on the rocks to say the least, and there’s the whole Felicia thing. He’s still a high schooler and in that teen range, but a big ass lanky teenager who's only solid looking because of the gear he wears. I’d place him around 16-18, a case could be made for 15 but I’m going to politely disagree. ITSV could very easily be fairly soon after these events.
It’s 8 months after the first run. He becomes cocky and overconfident this whole next issue, possibly because of an interdimensionally inflated ego? Point is he feels on top of his game. Also worth mentioning, he’s ignoring MJ this whole issue to the point the audience knows basically nothing about her while he is having a very intense relationship with Felicia(which we already know how I feel about that whole mess) and who MJ is very blatantly and very badly a foil to.(I love MJ she is just not well written here).
The second run ends, his best friend/possible love interest(I said what I said), Robbie, is dead and unavenged.(I can talk a lot more about Robbie and what effect he had and will have on Peter going forward, also the disservice of his ‘death’) Felicia is disfigured and blames Peter. Peter not only blames himself for all this but the comic ends with him saying he feels powerless and a constant sense of impending doom. He really did not get a single win during this comic, man got the shit beaten out of him too. The age at the end of this comic is 17-19. After the last comic dude was messed up but still had hope, after this one we don’t see the fall out, but I can assure it was BAD. That whole ‘you don’t have to kill the bad guy thing’ is probably out the fucking window. I’m more hesitant to think ITSV happened after this run because of that. He isn’t just depressed or self loathing anymore, he isn’t just playing fast and loose with his life to get results. He does not care, he has no hope, and he doesn’t see a good future.
Pre - ATSV predictions with mild spoilers:
With the year and a couple of months time jump for ATSV it’s very plausible that the events of that last run plus possible spider task force shenanigans could happen before the movie. For more context in the comics spider noir was a recurring spider in the ‘elite strike force’. Personally, if he was invited, I could very much see him accepting, especially with his current mental state, and being very aggressive about it. Which, theoretically, could cause him to get kicked off or make a rash decision to leave bc fuck those guys. But the point is at the end of that last comic this man really doesn’t have a single win, he is in a prime state to be manipulated in.
Edit: my dumbass forgot literally the most important detail. The year 1933 is when ITSV noir comes from which matches this timeline with the comics as well.
To sum everything up, the reason why I think spider noirs age is in the 18/20 range is because it fits the above timeline, which I believe to be the most probable timeline of events that are canon by the movies while also staying consistent with at least some of the original comics. It should be further noted there is no evidence of his age throughout the ITSV movie, besides him being played by Nicholas Cage and being tall. In fact, I’d argue due to his excessive use of slang it would naturally place him in a younger category as well as the classic melodramaticness that can come with being a coping teenager. The most important thing that makes his age and at what point in his storyline he’s in up to interpretation is the fact that we see his face once and it’s heavily shadowed. If we saw his face more I’d feel better about giving him a more solid age, but till then context clues for the win. But anyways, this was long and I still have more I could get into/say and I will eventually. Feel free to ask any questions or even tell me why you disagree!

I get mentally exhausted whenever I'm forced to think of Stan Lee for any amount of time so I was really dreading reading the chapter of Ditko Shrugged that concerned the creation of Spider-Man but I ended up being pleasantly surprised that author David Curie ended up debunking many of Lee's claims and arrived to the conclusion that Lee never gave Kirby or Ditko a "brief synopsis" to work from. History, for better and for worse, seems to look like it will be kind to Steve Ditko, we've come a long way since Blake Bell's otherwise impressive work Strange and Stranger: The Worlds of Steve Ditko, that mentioned that Lee *did* give Ditko a plot synopsis to work from without any accompanying evidence beyond "Lee and Marvel's lawyers said that happened."
Some brief notes however;
Tumblr media
Tom Scioli's Jack Kirby: The Epic Life of The King of Comics properly states that Kirby was the person that introduced the concept of Spider-Man (or, Spiderman, sans hyphen), with the art in the third panel being Night Stalker, though I've not seen any Night Stalker art by Kirby where the character had the web gun. Scioli's work crams in an amazing amount of detail but the fact that Ditko was assigned to start Spider-Man over from scratch after noticing that Kirby's version resembled The Fly too much is completely glossed over for space reasons I assume, keeping in mind that Kirby was so busy in the 1960's that the addressing of Spider-Man's creation has to share the page with that of Iron Man and The X-Men. Curie mentions this specifically but doesn't draw any specific conclusions as to who came up with the "idea" of Spider-Man, likely due to the fact that it is a rabbit hole and for all intent and purpose doesn't really matter in the context that the character as published is a co-creation of Ditko and Lee alone.
Both books however present the impetus for Spider-Man's creation as originating from a source other than Kirby, Scioli mentions that Martin Goodman wanted to continue expanding the superhero line and Currie more or less credits Lee with at least coming up with the name "Spiderman" if nothing else. The truth as it where seems to be an ongoing process of building up (or exposing) after decades of falsehoods.

Miguel and Gabriel analysis talk (OG comics)
Kinda…maybe…idk…
Content warnings: there is mention of the abuse Gabriel and Miguel went through
Content warnings: there is mention of Miguel’s suicidal tendencies here
This may come out as complete ramble that doesn’t make sense and honestly that’s to be expected as I’m very passionate about this, like…extreme so
This is about the idea of Miguel relying unhealthily on Gabriel and how I believe the new writing direction of the comics cannot be canon to Miguel’s character and mischaracterise him because I fully believe that he would not be able to successfully be a hero without his brother.
If you don’t know in nearly all the new comics for Miguel o’hara, Gabriel o’hara dies, he’s either already dead, or dies within the comic, we are seeing that with the new comics about to come out as well, it’s even within the novel.
Though I do think the novel did a good job, the novel showed Miguel became a shell of himself, and became nothing, unable to find proper purpose, but yet I still think that isn’t right, it isn’t what I be,I’ve Miguel would do.
Now you need context of everything first, Miguel is spiderman second, but he is a victim of family based abuse first. It is what makes him. Him. The only family that has not abused him is Gabriel, his little brother, another victim of abuse
George is written to be an abusive asshole, he is misogynistic, racist, verbally, mentally, and physically abusive, to the point it’s believed that Gabriel could have gone through physical abuse, he was pushy and forced Miguel into schooling he didn’t want.
Conchata is neglectful, and physically abusive, even if the writers tried to pretend it was just normal things for mothers to do and kept trying to make him and her reconnect, and within latest comics she tends to appear to blame Gabriel’s death on him.
Kron stone is Miguel’s bully, he spends his time attempting to kill Miguel, publicly shaming him in front of people, and such in a way that can be considered another form of abusive. All while having a power position held over Miguel due to his father.
Tyler stone is abusive, he drugs Miguel, he admits he groomed Miguel, he’s not a good person, simple as that, he’s meant to be a villain in his writings. Edit: he also has an extreme power over Miguel though that’s part of grooming.
Who’s the only alive member we see that isn’t like this? Gabriel, his baby brother, that’s why Miguel is dependent on him. And I’m going to explain more on how he’s dependent
It’s shown that a form of self harm Miguel does is pushing people away he cares for and desperately needs, when he wants to harm himself, he harms the people he cares for, pushes them away. He has done this so much with Gabriel, the first time we properly see Gabriel, miguel is trying to push him away, trying to avoid him. Miguel attempted to push him deeply away in the way of cheating on Xina with Gabriel’s girlfriend Dana, he keeps working for the company that Gabriel hates, he does everything in small ways to get Gabriel to hate him. It’s purposeful, it’s because he needs his brother, and because he needs his brother, he has to attempt to push him away. He has to. That’s his self harm, which shows that Gabriel is one of the most important people to him.
Miguel needs Gabriel, he can’t deal without his little brother, in fact at the very end of the 1992 comics, when miguel leaves things behind and seemingly quits for some time (until later 1990s comics) that only comes after his brother actually “abandons” him, which we end up knowing isn’t true as it was a shape shifter pretending to be Gabriel, but the reason it seems Miguel ends up not giving up and attempts to keep going on is to find Gabriel. His purpose becomes more so to find Gabriel, to keep him safe, he knows Gabriel is alive and well, and needs to find him. That becomes his purpose including in alternative universes. Edit: his reason for staying spiderman is purely because of wanting Gabriel’s safety by all means
Miguel needs Gabriel, he can’t live without him, he can’t do that, and I’m saying that he would not live, he’d refuse to without Gabriel. You already see he is suicidal, he is known as the suicidal spiderman, he may be passive suicidal, we see drawings of him hanging himself. We hear how he makes plans to end himself, we see how he wants to end it but is too much of a coward. And I say he’s a “coward” as he sees himself as still having a slight purpose, to stay with his brother. But if he doesn’t have his brother?
Gabriel is his self control, his reason to live, the only family he has that loves him, he needs Gabriel, he needs his little brother, he can’t be without his brother. If you go by 1992-1995 writing, then it has to be argued that Miguel wouldn’t just keep being a hero, he wouldn’t keep being alive.
How to make Gabriel disappear?
The thing is the writers tend to kill off Gabriel to push the story, to push the narrative, Gabriel is like that female character in stories that gets killed off for the male protagonist, this time he’s just a brother, a brother that should not have had this happen, it doesn’t make sense logically. The thing is they treat Gabriel as uncle Ben, he isn’t, uncle Ben exists in their universe and is long dead, Miguel is not Peter Parker, Peter Parker exists in his universe and is long gone, he does not have a uncle Ben, it shouldn’t be that way, Gabriel is not his uncle, he is his only family he cares for, at most he should be treated like aunt may possibly, but barely.
I believe the real way to may Gabriel disappear is to not kill him but make him leave by his own will, alive. Gabriel goes through a lot of things, and logically him leaving Miguel behind can work. Gabriel’s girlfriend cheats on him with Miguel, his next girlfriend falls for Miguel, George only ever cared for Miguel, Miguel is loved by entire nations as spiderman, conchata starts to give him more attention, Gabriel is a victim of abuse that is a people pleaser, who is desperate for his mothers love, if he has to share his mothers love when he struggles to get the love of anyone else? Yeah that may start to push him over the edge, on top of that but Miguel does push him away, Miguel gives Gabriel many reasons to disown him. By all means Gabriel gets put through a lot of shit.
Make it so Gabriel leaves Miguel due to things Miguel can’t control but also can control, make it so that Miguel has to confront himself. Miguel has to see his actions, has to see his self harm, has to see how he’s a dickhead pushes people away. See how him doing things like idk sleeping with his brothers girlfriends is extremely bad. Make it so Miguel has to grow and learn to change, and go through difficult times, by getting Gabriel to leave him alive.
If you take Gabriel away by killing him off, it doesn’t give Miguel proper reason to change, it gives him reason to die. His brother that loved him so much and he loved so much died? What’s the point? But the brother that loved him and he loves so so much doesn’t care for him anymore? Miguel goes through a depression and then changes himself, so he can be around his brother again.
You take a desperate man barley living and get rid of his reason to live, and you don’t have what marvel is trying to convince you they have.
But hey that’s just personal opinion and maybe a fanfic idea for someone :D

My history with the X-men is very limited, only catching reruns of the trilogy on FX, having that bootleg of X-men origins Wolverine that had the unfinished visual effects, First Class, Apocalypse, Days of Future Past and of course Logan. A film so sad it was engraved in my mind and I no longer will ever feel the need to watch it.
The only X-men comic I remember reading was some story where Logan got mindfucked into acting like a little bitch, here's some some pages/panels without context
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And when it comes animation, I saw like one episode of the OG 90's show on xfinity on demand and a handful of X-men Evolution
Tumblr media
All this to say I have very little attachment to the X-men brand so believe me when I say with no bias X-men 97 is fucking amazing and 100% worth your time
Tumblr media
Just one episode in and immediately understand why people love not just the X-men, but why they love superhero stories. The crazy exaggerated powers and characters that can be silly but still have heart and real stakes. All that without some snide remark about how some other series or movie got it wrong. Like I know My Adventures With Superman was great but sometimes it does feel like it's trying to overcorrect for the Snyder Superman. X-men '97 just simply is.
Tumblr media
Also, HOLY FUCKING SHIT, it looks amazing.
Tumblr media
Like damn, if Invincible looked as half as good as this show has looked every episode so far it would be perfect. It's the quality I expect outta western shows now that they cost so damn much. This show much like Monkie Kid (there I go mentioning Monkie Kid again) looks like I imagine 90's kids felt when they watched it. Cause when you watch the OG show outside of the intro the animation is super stiff but in '97 when the action picks up it's on the level of high tier anime ova, like film quality good. And even then just the shot composition and direction is great almost never flat.
Tumblr media
My only gripe was that at first I thought because the show wanted to resemble the OG that it used really flat colors to make it look like it was from the 90's without doing something like Megalo Box which lowered the resolution to feel like a 90's anime. But by the third episode I got used to it.
Anyways yeah, this shit's amazing, fantastic, astonishing even. And if they cooked this good for the X-men, then I got high hopes for that Spiderman show, should it still exist.
Tumblr media
You know, there's a lot to be said about how My Adventures With Superman needed to make sure they let several people that's been covering the character for the last decade know he doesn't have to become an op in order to be interesting but that's a whole conversation for another day.
One of the cool things I noticed coming out of X-Men '97 is it reminded some people that before there was ever a whole Avengers craze X-Men was the ultimate team of superheroes for Marvel to a lot of people growing up. It's why it has so many projects and connections or why MCU wants to cap now and say Ms. Marvel is a mutant instead of an Inhuman. Everyone wants to sit with the cool kids. There's actually several things I want to say about this show but I'm going to wait till the end of the season.
Also, with the character designs of that Spider-Man cartoon they almost have a responsibility to release the series just so everybody can see what that looks like in motion.

Where exactly does snowbirds don't fly takes place in the timeline? Because that storyline came out at the same time he was with the Teen Titans and as far as I can remember Roy didn't express any of the feeling he did in the GL book towards GA "leaving" him behind
EXCELLENT QUESTION THANK YOU FOR ASKING
SO
Snowbirds Don't Fly is written within the context of Silver Age Green Arrow (including GL/GA) and Silver Age Titans- but it was written as more of a standalone PSA that just so happened to be part of the canon.
It's important to remember the context of GL/GA as a series that was being written by O'Neil and Adams as a way to not only boost the sales of the Green Lantern series but in the words of O'Neil himself "my journalism background and laid-back social activism had led me to wonder if I couldn't combine those things with what I did for a living. ... So this was my chance to see if this idea I had would work. It was a situation where nobody had anything to lose."
GL/GA is a series that is more based and focused on the real world and specifically on the real world that concerned O'Neil and Adams. Adams was the chairman of a rehabilitation center and O'Neil lived in a neighborhood with a large population struggling with addiction and would recount having friends come over at 3am suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
The Titans title however was not this, and that book was definitely not a consideration at all when Snowbirds was being written.
The Amazing Spider-Man #96-98* however was- and after its publication came the rewriting of the CCA which allowed O'Neil and Adams to publish the Snowbirds Don't Fly storyline with the approval of the CCA that The Amazing Spider-Man had not received earlier in May of 1971.
It's also worth noting of course that per the GL/GA canon, Ollie is only gone for about a month, and in Titans canon Roy isn't always around, so it's entirely possible for him to just not have mentioned it to them.
*The Amazing Spiderman #96-98 is the arc where supporting cast member Harry Osborn is shown to struggle with addiction- this comic was published without the CCA stamp of approval and was the first comic from a major publisher to not have the seal of approval since 1954. O'Neil and Adams found this depiction unrealistic and sought to write a comic more focused on the reality of addiction with Snowbirds Don't Fly, with the added emotional punch of addiction being something a hero was struggling with as a way to show that addiction isn't something that happens only to those "bad" people in society.

Eyo. Time for me to elaborate more on this post (sorry for the Grammer mistakes and typos there. I was evicting every thought in my brain)
So after making that post, it had me thinking: How did Miguel end up convincing so many Spiderman of his view of canon? How did Miguel damage the ideals that Spiderman represented so much? How did Miles see through his bs better than everyone in the society and inspire the spider group to break apart from the Spider Society?
I did struggle to find a proper answer. I went through & brainstormed the scenes of the movie, and while there were some important stuff that helped(Miles conversation with his mother, which is everything to me), I was kind of looking for extra stuff. It wasn't until I rewatched the first Movie(ITSV) & thought about this with that added context that the answer finally clicked for me:
Miguel made them afraid to leap, and Miles made them realize that
A core theme in the first movie was about taking a leap of faith. Miles was so afraid of taking that leap (both metaphorically and literally) that it held him back. He didn't see himself as enough so he focused on filling in the shoes of the old spiderman instead of becoming his own spiderman. Peter B was afraid of taking that leap of faith to repair his relationship with MJ because he was afraid of failing again. Gwen had shut herself off from her friends after her Peter died because she was too afraid of taking that leap, of trusting & getting close to someone because the pain of losing the people she cares about would be too much.
The thing is though, they grew from each other
Mile's hearing his father's speech to him was what gave him enough courage to take his leap of faith and become the best spiderman he could be(there's even symbolism with him being a better runner than swinger and how he embodied that during his leap of faith.). Peter B had finally started to take his own leap of faith thanks to Miles, which allowed him to start taking the first steps in repairing his relationship with MJ. Gwen had finally opened herself up to trusting Miles. While she was more so in the process of her leap of faith and didn't "leap" until ATSV, having Miles a part of her life, even briefly, influenced so many of her actions
Now how does this correlate to Miguel?
Because his view of canon condemned & punished Spiderman for leaping. A part or Spidermen, and life in general, is to take that leap of faith. To jump and leap towards something in your life, even if it doesn't work out, and even if you crash and hurt yourself. Taking that leap, even if you failed, can be fulfilling because at least you tried. The most important part of life isn't to shrug off every blow like it's nothing and make perfect leaps without messing up, it's impossible. The most important thing about falling though, is to get back up, even it hurts. Because at some point, you'll make the jump, and your life is what you make of it. You are your own Spiderman, spider powers or not.
Now keep that in mind, and watch Miguel Shatter it when your at your lowest
Every time you leap, you'll fall. It'll happen to you regardless of what you do. The universe needs you to fail. You can try to leap, but you'll get yourself and others burned by the sun. Your life isn't yours, it belongs to canon
This revelation would break many people. To see that your life isn't even your own, and that you're destined to always fall when you jump does some damage. They had seen that their leap of faith will never amount to anything.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if a good amount of Spidermen were recruited to the Society some time after a canon event. It feeds into their pain and tells them it was necessary and takes the faith out of "Leap of Faith" to create a leap of nothing.
This happens with Gwen, where she takes her leap of faith by dropping the mask and showing her father who she was. This didn't end well for her initially, and this event was what lead her into being brung into the society.
But Miles changed that.
His own leap of faith in trying to save his dad, even if that meant rejecting every part of Spider Society instilled that leap of faith that they have forgotten.
------
I don't have much more to say, I was just dumping all the thoughts in my head into a random pile in the corner-

Where would you suggest a newbie start on Spider-Gwen? I've looked into it a couple times and there's like two different "number one"s, and then gwenom, gwenpool, and others that look like crossovers, she's even introduced in a massive intimidating spiderverse crossover. Basically, what's a good place to start without having to do a bunch of homework?
HI NYSSA i'm finally on desktop to answer you comfortably. So happy to share as I've actually done the bunch of homework!
putting a tl;dr here: a good starting point is her first serie, Spider-Gwen (2015-2018) So. Spider-Gween as her own series, but was first introduced in the Spider-Verse comics. She has three series of her own :
Spider-Gwen (2015-18, 34 issues)
Spider-Gwen: Spider-Ghost (2019, 10 issues)
Spider-Ghost (2020-21, 10 issues)
(not at all confusing to start, not at all.)
Those are her core series, that you can read in that order if you want to go simple. Then, here are the homeworks done:
You can also preface this by reading the Spider-Verse comics, that is her first actual appearance and will give you some context for her interactions with Miles Morales in her own comics. To read this, you'll basically have to know two things : 1. in the spiderman lore, there's a family called the Inheritors who hunt the spiderpeople in the multiverse 2. there are too "mainstream" Peter Parker, one being Doc Ock in Peter's body (that's not relevant to Gwen but you might be lost abt this at first)
Then, one that might be a read is the Spider-Women comics. It takes place during Spider-Gwen #7-8 so you'll be aware of the happenings even if you don't read the comics. If you don't want tor read it, here's the point: after Spider-Verse, 3 spiderwomen keep in touch and regularly have brunch and adventures together. The point is mainly going on with Gwen's story that she's quite in touch with the multiverse and her spiderfam.
You can also read the Spider-Man/Spider-Gwen Sitting in a tree comics. This also takes place during some Gwen issues (Spider-Gwen #16-18) so you don't have to read it if you don't care about it, but it adds the some parts of the first Miles/Gwen team-up and also Miles' side.
Betwen Spider-Gwen and Spider-Gwen: Spider-Ghost happens the Spider-Geddon event. It's basically the sequel to Spider-Verse, so if you liked it you might like this one. Also it's what happens to Gwen between the first and second series, so I guess? haha.
To answer your questions: Gwenom refers to two things. Well, three really: Gwen when she fuses with venom's symbiote, Spider-Gwen's narrative arc in issues #24-29, and finally to Spider-Gwen vs Carnage. This is part of a bigger marvel event called King in Black, and is Gwen's participation in it. It's the last appearance we've had of Gwen in her continuity, so it might be relevant to her if we ever get more content, but I'm sure this will categorize then as an adventure she had, as others. If you don't have enough Gwen by now, sure you can read it.
There's also Gwen-Verse. It's a self contained mini-serie. It features Spider-Gwen having adventure with some of her counterparts, who are not spiderpeople but mixes with other superheroes. This ties in with her origins: in the introduction to Spider-Verse (titled Edge of Spider-Verse if you wanna read that), Spider-Gwen is introduced alongside other spiderpeople. She, and particularly her design, was so acclaimed that she became a fan favourite before having anything else to her name, and became popular along cosplayers. Marvel then decided to give her her own series, and notably by launching a collection of cover arts of Gwen Stacy as different marvel superheroes (you can check those here). And so basically, this mini-serie is a way to come back to this, with all kind of Gwens!
Finally you mentionned Gwenpool. Gwenpool was one of those variant that they went with. She's a completly different character, called Gwen(dolyn) Pool. iirc, she has two series of her own. She appears in the main marvel universe (so not Spider-Gwen's one) and she's a mix with Deadpool, obviously. She has the same awareness that she's in a comic world and acts very recklessly because, as this is comic world, nothing will have true consequences (which distresses basically everyone around her bc loved one dies, you know). I'm not quite fond myself of her, but if you wanna give her a try, be my guest!
I hope this was clear enough and gave you the answers you were seeking dear!

you know what yall get my discord rant about the yassified constantine ya thing. [<-is edits->]
I'm just speechless[spoiler: i find my voice p quick] on the whole yasstantine ya thing and by speechless I mean disappointed to the bone and very close to cussing the house down. Also the story is so shite? like he has a mum and is part of a magical lineage but in a weird not John way? Like there's a good post about how two panels show the massive difference between the two. Also? How can u wright John Constantine without his mum dying as he was born? Like it affects sooo mutch. It's like rebooting Spiderman and not killing uncle Ben. It's the catalyst of all catalysts.
Also I'm not saying John ain't pretty when he's young, because he's decent looking in the first hellblazers, but he's scruffy there, also he's[yasstantine] a poser. Like John ain't a poser. Idk how to explain it but making John pretty and airbrushed and ticktoc alt is fundamentaly opposed to who the actual charecter is. Like they look at all the reasons ppl like him and changed them. John is a queer northern man who had dealt massively with childhood trauma and abuse as well as poverty, and stripping him of that is something I wish I could be surprised about DC doing but given how DC are already trying to downplay and flatten him
(don't get me started on the king shark thing or the flirting w batman. John may not have self respect but he does have a burning hatred for the rich and batman is not an exeption and the "oh John's such a slut he even fuked a shark" fuck off.) Ok speechless was a lie ^ pissed of queer and punk Londoner who has to many opinions on John Constantine and to many fights they want to pick with dc.
John is an inherently political charecter and that's where he is best. And you can't strip him of his context as a British punk queer man who lived through the aids crisis and Thatcher and the coalminers strikes and section 28. But DC want to strip him of his politics and so put him in America. No! John's story is important and speaks of things the government want to ignore. Issue 3 of hellblazers cover was taking the piss out of Thatcher. Hellblazer isent just a comic its a comic that calls out the bull going on in the world, and sits you down and forces you to empathize with people, and to show how bigots are pathetic. I read hellblazer and I can point to the things my parents have told me about, and more. Hellblazer is political, hellblazer is important and hellblazer tells me my history. Hellblazer is about people that I could know, and the horrors I have to face. Idk how to say it but hellbazer and John Constantine are so important to me in a world where most English language media is American. Where you learn all about America. And we have alot less media telling it how it is. England has a massive issue with putting old horrors under the rug.
And it's hard to explain to some people that didn't grow up with the horrors, or there parents didn't warn them if the horrors they lived thru, about the council estates, about section 28, about the privatisation of the verge, about all the British issues shoved under the bloody carpet. I read hellblazer and it tells me that these horrors do exist, the wounds that scar us still do exist, but people survive and people are good. [note- by horrors i mean the real life horrors, that are either played straight or allgorised]
Also from a story point of view, disregarding context, disregarding charecter, John's story is so fuking British. "The Americans want someone to succeed where they haven't, the English want someone to fail where they have," is a p good summary of the difference between the two countries media [i am heavily generalizing the common trends of american vs british media please dont @ me w outliers] We [brits] like watching someone else go through the shitter like us, to show that were not alone. We don't get happy ending. We know. We like morally complex arseholes who make bad choices. We don't want superman. We want our gritty hope that we may not be happy, but we can make choices that matter. We want to see people like us suffer and be absolved and be punished. We want the truth that is glossed over. We want to know that life sucks, and we take delight in watching other people go through the shit we do. Witch is why u need a British writer, not just because of knowledge of the context, but because the story is fundamentally different to American stories.
… ok I have alot more feellings and opinions on that than I thought
Tldr I hate it but it's inline w DC's attempts to de politicize John and in doing so showing they fundamentally don't understand the character and why people like him, and then ruin him in an attempt to make him "popular" when at the core of his character he is at his best when he isent popular with everyone [john is a character that should piss large groups of people off, and hellblazer is a comic that should make large amounts of people uncomfortable, but dc want to remove the discomfort, and defang the comic and character, selling out john. no the irony isent lost on me]

SPOILERS FOR ACROSS THE SPIDERVERSE: some thoughts
Miles' story makes me pretty emotional because he was one of the first characters- possibly even the first marvel character to take on a legacy superhero and get a story to be Spiderman or whatever hero. And while a lot of it wasn't done perfectly, he was still significant. All the movies talk about him not "fitting" anywhere, not being "right." Within a comic book history context it's kind of incredible. He doesn't from a marvel Canon perspective. He is not a Peter nor a character that was switched around to take on that role- like Gwen or Jessica Drew. He is his own.
Within a Cultural context- and this is probably just me projecting- puerto ricans don't quite fit anywhere. Even those who immigrate and have connections back home don't quite fit anymore there. The island itself is in an endless limbo- it is not a part of the states, nor its own nation. It never reached the post colonial stage, and will probably not for a lifetime. My parents got to the mainland- and were and continue to be not welcome in spaces like universities or jobs because of their accent and home. That's what Miles' mom is taking about, what's she's afraid of. All that food and those spanish expressions- those were real. And for me that was another layer on the pressure on Miles to be able to do it all. You have to be able to do it all.
Another thing I noticed was that the spider people who helped miles without directly knowing him were other black spider people. Spiderpunk knew him a bit through Gwen, but spiderbyte barely had a conversation with him. Their race and their connection as spiders were the only connections they had. And in the end that's why he made it out. I just thought that was neat.

Number 9 for the self ship agere ask game! ^^
HEHE THIS IS SO OBSCURE OKAY!! /vpos
Ok so- a long time fav of mine has been Trevor Lefkowitz from CBS Ghosts!
Context ->
The time we spend together is pre-canon! So he hasn't yet ended up as a ghost at woodstone. He's just,,, Trevor! And it's like the 90s!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
<- pls ignore the way the flags r sitting Tumblr is so broken for me I literally cannot fix it
🪐 🌱 🌻
As a CG...🫧
He is such a classic dad I SWEAR TO YOU omg..I can't do anything without being called a silly little name !!
And he loves showing me how strong he is all the time (usually fails) by picking me up an trying to toss me on furniture or something. Like, pa, we are physically the same height. That is not happening.
Does not know things..in the kitchen. He's lucky I always always am able to make myself food otherwise I would be living off nothing but cereal and apple slices. (I'm being mean he actually does make some banger stuff but... I wouldn't consider most of it real food)
Big on PDA (save me) we cannot be together anywhere ever. Because he's either grabbing my hands or putting his hands on my shoulders or back or MY HEAD???? I can't style my hair because he'll mess it back up over the course of the day!!
I will say....I enjoy..........the kissies....
BED TIMES ARE SUPREEEEEMEEEEEEEE!!!!! He'll let me lay on him while he reads stories or tells me about his own life (it gets wild) and he makes sure to keep his tone nice and low and even and HFSNSFJ he's so warm?? Like a human space heater?? - and if I'm being a little menace about going to sleep we make my plushies fight in a boxing match...if mine wins I get an extra 5 minutes before he leaves >:]] stonks...
I call him "dad", "pa" or "daddy" ! He's one of the only people actually allowed to refer to me by feminine terms. He's such a girl dad how could I not let him princess me tbh?? "Princess" is one nickname he likes for me but it's so many all over the place,, some of them just turn into a complete jumble. "Kitty" "kittycat" "kittygirl" "prettykitty" (idk why he likes calling me kitty I am quite literally a dog therian?????) But also stuff "squirt" "goober" "tiger" !! I'm still waiting for him to come up with his own trademark obscure dad nickname...time will tell.....
As a regressor....🧃
-> This is usually set during his college years!
He...is....tired..he comes to my room wholly unannounced at ungodly hours of the night, usually after some big frat party. Things depend on what went down there - some nights I can barely get him undressed before he just crashes in my bed.
Small. Sometimes not,, but usually. He's pretty insecure of how much support he actually needs sometimes - wants to be independent and big but it's just not gonna happen. Especially when he's overtired I need to be a bit sneaky with helping, otherwise we risk some tears. I'd place him at maybe 3-5?? Just in that space where a kiddo wants to try being a little person for the first time.
He really likes super heroes! Spiderman is his favorite. Anything Spiderman themed he's gonna absolutely beg me for. Doesn't matter if it's clothes, toys, comics....etc. we're busting out the puppy eyes. And he is GOOD at the puppy eyes. The amount of money I've dropped on him is unholy!
Cuddly. It doesn't matter if he's my pa, my boyfriend or my little bug...he needs to be touching me at all times. He'll take any excuse too - like crossing the street - I don't even have to ask for his hand, it just magically appears in mine! We're in proximity of a couch? We're on it. Actually, no. I'm on the couch, he's on me!
Very cute nicknames. For such a big little dude - he's called such soft things. "Bunny" "puppy" "dove" "babydoll" "angel"...I gear toward those when he's younger (which is most of the time) but when he's in an older headspace I straight up just call him "dude" or variations of "little man" HEHEH
Puppy regressor!! Black lab specifically! His favorite things are head scratchies and fetch! I'm not kidding with fetch. He'll bring me any random objects and try to get me to throw them. I've had to take flip flops out of his mouth. - One thing he does when pup regressed is just chill at my feet and I love it. He's so content to just quietly stick to my side while I work on stuff or relax. I actually got a dog bed to put under my desk for that exact reason!
That's all I'm gonna put in this post for now!! Cause I don't wanna make it too too long PFF--
I'm so bummed about the images being BROKEN but I can always edit my posts when they're fixed >:[[[

Hey, punch, if you have ever heard of DC and Marvel, what is your opinion of them? Personally, I'm annoyed by all of the retcons and multiple never ending characters who keep dismenting others.
Especially when they keep trying to make new characters who people may or may not even WANT to read about, since some chapters are confusing without context from other comics.
The only version I DO like from either universe is the LEGO version since it's sillier and less controversing.
Mmmm... neutral opinion on DC as I don't hear too much about them, but iffy opinion on Marvel with it being with Disney and being pro military. It's also just... ridiculous how much you have to watch to keep up with everything and there's being hardly any one offs to watch. I got Marveled out a little after the first Avengers film and just haven't gone back since. It's just too much to watch. At most just wanted to check Black Panther and was curious about Thor Ragnarok and that's it. I haven't been interested in anything else.
Though not a huge fan of either DC or Marvel as the superheroes they cover just don't entirely pull me in, largely because it's mostly focused on male heroes with female heroes being a minority of both. Which where my third superhero creating medium that has focus on mostly female heroes with male heroes as the minority?
I will say, both have at least one superhero I do like.
DC I adore Batman. I grew up on his cartoons so he's the DC hero I knew the most and liked to the most, especially as I got to know more of him comic wise, and I appreciate him stepping up and helping people. I like the Batman who cares. And love that he just holds the biggest record of adopting kids. If there's one Batman show I want to see, it's to see a Bat family sitcom. Which I guess Wayne Family Adventures is closest. I think that's actually getting a show? I hope. That'd be amazing.
Marvel wise, I do like Spiderman. Actually out of all Marvel heroes, he's the most iconic to me as I got to see some of his cartoons as a kid. He's also pretty funny as a hero. Movie wise, my favorite Spiderman film is definitely Into the Spiderverse.

Small teaser: Doc Ock x Plasma Price (oc) oneshot
Cringe!! Oh my God guys look Dain has a spiderman self inser- *shoots you several times in the chest*
This is just a little segment from a oneshot I’ve been working on :,) for some context, this was written with comic doc in mind. Plasma has the superpower of extreme heat resistance and became the supervillain “Demo”, who eventually teamed up with Doc.
Tumblr media
Plasma was strewn across an empty table in the lab, and on her stomach was a crumpled wrapper from a granola bar she’d found. She blew a strand of hair from her face and looked lazily over to Otto, who was bent over a set of equations on his desk. His back was facing her and she eyed him with scrutiny. “Otto.” She said, unamused for the first time in probable years. “Hm?” He responded, quickly standing up straight and turning to look at her. “What’re you doing?” She asked.
“Oh, I’m still working on my plans.”
“Otto.”
“Plasma?”
“Otto,” she sighed. “C’mere.”
She sat up straight on the table and turned so that her legs were hanging off the side and her body was facing him. He looked at her in slight confusion and she waved him over expectantly. She tossed the wrapper into the garbage can across the room and it hit the side before falling in. “Nice shot,” he mused while he curiously walked over to her. “Thanks. Now, listen,” she popped her knuckles and he stopped in front of her. “Yeah?”
“You have been working yourself to the bone.” Otto shook his head with a small grin. “No, I’d hardly say that.” Plasma’s expression tightened and she jumped up from the table. “I would. You need a break.” And once again he digressed. “I assure you, I’m alright. Thank you for your concern, but I—“ she cut him off by taking his lab coat by the shoulders and sliding it off his arms. “…Plasma?” Having pulled it off, she walked across the lab and tugged it onto a coat rack that was typically used for goggles. She shimmied out of her own and did the same. “We’re going out to eat.”
“I’m not—“
“You haven’t eaten since 2 o’clock. It’s 11:30.”
“It’s 11:30?” He repeated in disbelief.
“You need some fresh air, too. Lord.”
Without giving him the time to protest, she went behind him and began pushing him toward the stairs to leave the lab. “Go upstairs. Go.” He didn’t budge. “Plasma. We can order takeout.” She pushed harder. “Absolutely not. There’s a joint by Central Park I know, do you like pizza?” Although they both lived in New York City, and she knew they both liked pizza. “I do, but—“ she gave him one last shove before stopping and maneuvering to the front of him. “Then stop being a baby and lets go. My treat.” And it was at this that Otto, who had not wanted to go, finally agreed. ‘Absolutely not,’ he thought to himself as he grabbed the keys to the lab. ‘I’m paying.’
The duo made their way up the stairs and Otto grabbed the Trenchcoat he always wore. He handed Plasma a light jacket of her own and the two of them left the building. Early October nights were always equally as chilly as the last, so as that realization set in, the two of them walked a little closer together. Streets and blocks went by, no conversation was held. The two of them walked in comfortably amused silence, fond memories of the small scene made in the lab keeping his mind entertained. Plasma hooked her thumbs into the pockets of her jacket and the cool air embraced them en masse. Otto wore a green sweater beneath his trench coat, one that fit him well, Plasma noticed.

There’s been a surge of Jason and Barbara talk in the tags recently and I’m not sure what has brought it on since they don’t seem to be interacting much recently. I’m genuinely annoyed when people ship these two because of Joker trauma when really they both are over it, but as a potential pairing I can see the potential for something great. After all aren’t the themes of rebirth present in both these characters? Barbara transforms herself into the all mighty Oracle while Jason turns into the tragic Red Hood, but isn’t there room for forgiveness and hope in the mix of all this violence? It is cape comics after all and isn't that at the heart of them? Love for people you save and faith in humanity, but also for characters to see better in each other and to forgive each other. Across different media adaptations Jason seemingly has had a respect for Barbara and it has been the only thing that has remained consistent. I don't mind the age changes that are made and it is less awkward then the other unnamed popular ship since Barbara had no romantic interest in Jason when he was Robin. They end up separated for a pretty big chunk of time and have no influence on who they both become later on which allows for no major retcons to take place. Note: they would also understand each other on a different level if post-crisis Barbara had been remained in tact. Her father was an alcoholic who began drinking heavily after the death of his wife and would take his aggression out on Barbara until his death by alcoholism. Jason had a mother who was an addict and father who turned to crime to give Jason a better life. They could understand each other in ways that have nothing to do with a moment in time in their lives. So yeah I can get behind it, but I don't necessarily think comic fandoms are open to change.
I feel the same way! I think it just depends on the content and context. It's why I don't get upset about Bruce Babs either. I mean Dick went a good what, 20 years without even thinking about Babs as romantic and vice versa. Characters rarely stay with the same love interest for multiple media adaptions or content changes. It only truly happens when it becomes iconic like Superman and Lois or Spiderman and Mj, and even they don't have consistency all the time. So until Dick, Babs, Jason, xyz, gets an iconic love interest, I think it's ok to just write a good story regardless of the ships.
sorry if i got off topic haha

Thought about writing today but ultimately nah. I didn't have enough focus for original work and I was like, missing some context that I felt like I needed to write MCU multiverse fic. My MCU consumption in the past few years has pretty much been The Loki Show and the Black Widow movie; haven't touched the new stuff like eternals, I'm like super behind on spiderman everything, haven't really followed gotg, or even seen love and thunder! It's honestly difficult to want to see a Thor movie without Loki in it.
I did read a love and thunder synopsis before I wrote that last brodinsons fic, just so I'd have an idea what Thor's been up to in the main timeline, but I have other fic ideas and I wanted to get a firmer grasp on how the multiverse was looking from on the ground, rather than the bird's eye view the Loki show gives us. So tonight I watched strange and the multiverse of madness.
It was a big mess of effects and I didn't thoroughly like much of it other than miss Chavez (who I'm predisposed to because she hangs out with Loki in the comics) and I have such mixed feelings about Wanda's whole storyline but I'm generally glad I watched it.
Having fic ideas about miss Chavez and Sylvie hanging out and becoming multiverse hopping buddies.
Might catch up on spiderman at some point too. I've seen the first MCU Holland one, plus Holland in avengers movies, and the first spiderverse movie, but I think there's like three more spiderman movie now.
At this point it's more of a Loki therefore Loki show therefore multiverse interest rather than a direct interest in spiderman, but I liked the ones I did see and always intended to see the rest! Whatever gets me there I guess.

DONT LOOK CLAIRE SPIDERVERSE SPOILERS
i like the little running jokes they had in atsv. like how miles was so proud of the red stripes running down his new suit in his intro at the beginning of the movie but every person who sees them is like "why does it look like ur bleeding from ur pits. ur suit sucks lol" WITHOUT FAIL
also fucking god i just made the mistake of watching youtube movie theorists and its so fucking infuriating. like no dipshit its not a PLOTHOLE its called good writing, its foreshadowing, OBVIOUSLY if everything doesnt make sense in that particular order WITH REFERENCE TO SOMETHING CALLED "CANON" MAYBE? JUST MAYBE! ITS INTENTIONAL
i thought more people would catch on to the theme of metanarrative commentary and the discussion the film is having about the idea of a "canon" and what it means. the whole plot of the movie is questioning the (very popular!) philosophy that canon is sacred and must be adhered to at all times to preserve a story. its a super relevant idea to have running through a superhero comics movie because that philosophy is one that was and is the dominant philosophy among comics fans DESPITE THE NATURE OF COMICS MEANING THAT THERE ARE A MILLION TRILLION INCONSISTENCIES FROM STORY TO STORY. the comic book industry and how it functions means that a characters canon is constantly shifting as it is passed from writer to writer. these writers will have different interpretations of the character and what aspects theyd like to highlight, what story components theyd like to add as they craft a narrative responsive to the context that they live in.
miguel is the obvious stand in for the fan that insists that certain criteria must be fulfilled for a character to still be considered the same character. for the narrative to remain "intact" (we all understood that yes? universe = story). the obvious and numerous inconsistencies we see with MIGUEL SPECIFICALLY are to just highlight how wrong he is already and keep us skeptical (hes one of the only spiderpeople who wasnt bitten by a spider, hes called out in movie by peter b that hes not funny - whats up with that, spiderman is always supposed to be funny)
MILES BEING THE OG ANOMALY IS ALSO FITTING WITH THIS DISCUSSION BECAUSE, IRL, MILES HAD INSANE PUSHBACK FROM COMIC BOOKS FANS WHO - GET THIS - THOUGHT IT WAS TOO FAR FROM CANON! often very racist pushback that insisted that for spiderman to be "canon" he must be a white man! the pointed diversity of spiderpeople in this trilogy is not just trying to diversify superhero movies in a meaningful way - its also trying to make a broader point with its storyline that the ideological worship of "canon" can and does have racist implications ! that we should question the idea of "canon" and what we assume is necessary for a story to remain intact - can there be spidermen of different races (and genders, and religions, and etc etc) and tell the same crucial story? spiderverse is trying to prove desperately yes, yes, a thousand times yes, look at the story we are telling and tell us this isnt spiderman. our black protagonist is quintessentially spiderman while still being black, while still being puerto rican - those things add dimensions to the spiderverse canon that enrich it rather than detract from it. and while this point stands for a lot of art, they are also very intentional about it being about COMICS specifically, SUPERHEROES specifically. a literary novel centered around a specific time period and contect is not what theyre concerned about - they are keeping the theming of this movie series tightly around the medium of the superhero comic. because this IS a medium where absolutely this kind of multiplicity in experience BENEFITS the storytelling.
