@somerandomdudelmao s latest update for the Cass apocalyptic series has given me mental damage so I'll make it everyone's problem
🐢🐢🐢🐢
Donatello remembers falling asleep. It's a generous word for dying, but that's what it felt like. Closing your eyes and just drifting off, just a feeling of contentment and peace. As peaceful as dying can be.
It was painless at least. That's a plus if you ask him. The constant heaviness in his bones, the itching at the back of his eyes, telling him to close and never open them again, the constant buzzing in the back of his head. It all just went away the moment he let go.
For a second he'd felt weightless. Free. He'd felt young again, had imagined himself jumping over rooftops with his brothers and feeling the wind on his skin. The battle shell a comforting weight on his back instead of the crushing burden it has become during the last few weeks of his life. He'd imagined himself jumping and landing, jumping and landing, effortlessly. Had imagined himself looking to the left and seeing Leo, keeping pace, grinning and whole. Looking to the right and seeing Mikey and Raph, happy and laughing. He'd imagined looking forward again and seeing April and Dad and so many others, standing there, waving at him, their silhouettes stark against the sun lowering behind New York's skyline.
He'd thought "Ah. This must be heaven"
And then nothing.
And then too much, all at once. Like a computer going into overdrive, a hard drive rewriting and deleting itself over and over. He feels torn apart, his body rearranging itself constantly, nothing but a mist of energy one second and in the next blink of an eye a solid mess. When he has eyes and he can look down, he sees hands and arms glowing and glitching, but before he can panic or make sense of anything, he is gone again, just shadow and clouds, scattered across what his world has turned into.
This is nothing like what Raph described. Donnie expected some mystical mumbo jumbo, thanks to their ninpo and their connection to their ancestors. But what he'd expected had been Gram-Gram and Dad, waiting for him with open arms.
Not whatever the shell this is!
Figures! Even in death this mystical stuff manages to screw him over. Paint him surprised. NOT!
Time seems to be meaningless here. It feels like forever and it feels like just a second before something changes in his new world. The light changes, the texture of his surroundings solidifies. His body is as stable as it ever is, glitching and oozing with overflowing ninpo, but here and real.
There is a figure in the distance and Donatello can't make out who it is but he knows, knows as instinctively as he knows himself, as he knows his brothers.
The figure comes closer and they collide and Donnie feels himself rip apart AGAIN, but this time it's different. This time it's like coming home, like breathing in after years of holding it all in.
And then there is nothing and then there is a lot again. Not too much this time, just the right amount. But confusing and dizzying. Donatello is still not quite back yet, still feels alien to himself, but he's as whole as one can probably be after dying.
There are many new sensations pressing down on him. All of it familiar yet unfamiliar. The ninpo of his brothers, but much too young. The familiar energy of Casey Jones surrounding him, in contrast older and much more burdened than it should be.
But no time to panic. Assess and analyze Donatello, it's what you do best. There will still be time to freak out once you have figured out what the hell is going on.
"You know, I think I might need to invent a new scale to rate this rescue experience."

Ghosts of Our Days - Chapter One
A TMNT 2012 Rasey fanfic by myself and @theosb0rnway
Ao3 (full work)
Additional chapters will be linked!
Note that this fanfiction contains themes such as the described murder of a major character, descent into insanity, lack of self-care, and lots of gratuitously violent scenes, resulting death. However, Oz and I are also suckers for soft Rasey on occasion in-between the angst!
Summary:
When the battle against Super Shredder goes fatally wrong and Raphael pays the price, Casey is forced to go into hiding while plotting revenge against his newest foe. Despite abandoning the turtles, April, and his old life for secrecy, he's not as alone as he thinks he is... or is that just his newfound insanity?
Chapter One: Shredded Heart
If there was one thing to be said about any of it, it was that running with two hockey sticks strapped to one's back, irregularly sized gloves on one's hands, and numerous bits and bobs strapped all over their person wasn’t easy.
And Casey Jones qualified as ‘one’.
However, it was a learned terrain, and his fit was less bulky than usual as he leapt across rooftops. Probably for the better, he thought as he stopped right behind Raph, April, Slash, and Splinter as the latter motioned for their party to come to a halt.
“The Shredder,” was all he offered by means of an explanation. “He is atop that building.” He pointed to the building in question, Wolf Hotel.
Casey noted that it would be a heck of a climb if they were on that serious of a time crunch.
“That’s where we fought for the first time,” Raph recalled with vague surprise in his tone.
“And that’s where we take him down,” Slash added. “Once, and for all!”
Taking his words as incentive enough, the group darted off, taking to the street, and manhandling an accessible window. Nobody spoke as the group ascended the stairs, adrenaline palpable, and Casey was sure it was coursing through their veins as much as it was in his as they spilled out onto the roof.
Well. Him and April much more literally.
Adrenaline didn’t do much in the way of climbing more than twenty levels of stairs for a couple of ordinary humans.
“So… Why couldn’t we… take the elevator?” Casey gasped out as he hobbled onto the roof, regretting in tenfold the sweaty gloves occupying both of his hands as he used one of his hockey sticks to continue forwards. “At least… Me and April?”
April staggered out behind him, with similar concerns. “Feels like my… legs are disconnected from my body…” However, neither of them received any sympathy, barring a cursory glance from the others.
“Quiet. Shredder is near,” Splinter said, and Casey just managed to find his bearings and pull his mask down as Raph pulled out his sais and April rolled up her sleeves.
“Oh man,” April said in a grave tone as Splinter’s gaze flicked in the opposite direction. “I sense him. He’s close!” Exactly on cue, the Super Shredder burst from the ground below, and Casey could barely make out the silhouette of his enemy against the moonlight before he had landed, declaring vengeance once again.
“Hamato Yoshi… At last. My nightmares will end, for tonight, you shall finally perish.”
“Indeed. I will end your nightmares, Saki.” Splinter extended his weapon with a swish of his arms. “Permanently!”
Super Shredder’s claws extended, breathing heavy. Then, at the exact same moment, the two ran at each other. Super Shredder jumped above Splinter as he made a jab at Super Shredder’s shoulder with his weapon, but he grabbed Splinter’s left shoulder with his right arm, and tossed him across the roof.
Splinter crawled across the roof, facing up, away from Super Shredder’s persistent punches, each of which would have ended his life.
Just as it looked that he was in the clear, Super Shredder grabbed Splinter’s rat tail, lifted him clear over his head, and swung down at the ground.
Not having relinquished his grip, he flung Splinter towards a cell tower, finally letting go. Splinter took the vague advantage to land gracefully, the weapon still extended.
Super Shredder ran at Splinter again, but Slash intercepted him, and Casey cheered internally as Slash’s mace met Super Shredder’s arm.
However, his cheer turned into a groan as Slash was flung into the hotel sign they’d all seen before.
Now’s the time, Jones, he told himself as he ran out from his lack of cover, and a smoke bomb puck exploded next to Super Shredder’s head. Another one was at the ready, Casey keeping it in front of him all the while.
“GOONGALA!” he shouted, and hit the puck with enough force that the stick would have splintered if he’d hit it against the concrete below.
The puck soared through the air, and connected with its target, exploding with the force of a small bomb. A real one, too.
The explosion, while not deterring Super Shredder by much, left an opening for Raph to jump in with a yell, spinning his sais. The sais met Super Shredder’s claws, and Raph had to take a knee due to the force.
Casey jumped in again, and swung his hockey stick at Shredder’s head. This time, it did break into a million tiny pieces as he caught his footing once more, and jumped past Super Shredder with a punch as Raph attempted to restrain their much taller enemy.
To his horror, Super Shredder pried Raph from his back, and proceeded to pummel him into the ground, Raph’s legs twitching with each blow.
Oh, hell no. Not Casey Jones’ boyfriend, you didn’t.
But before Casey could even begin to enact revenge in Raph’s name, the latter was drop-kicked carelessly to the edge of the roof as Raph groaned, rolling half the way.
Casey’s head whirled towards him – the mask didn’t provide much view except for what was directly in front of him – and was about to rush to his aid when April beat him to it, and Casey felt the vestiges of telekinetic energy push him back a bit as Raph was forced back onto solid ground.
But whatever physics were still in play must have applied to April too, and she was forced off the roof in turn. He restarted his mad dash for the roof’s edge, hoping those same physics wouldn’t let him be too late.
Casey watched as she fell from the rooftop, shooting his grappling hook as fast as he could, hoping that it would reach her in time. It hit the ground with a crack, pulling him forward towards the edge a bit.
By some miracle, April caught the rope, landing about four or five feet from the ground. She climbed down and dislodged the hook from the ground, the metal gadget going back up to Casey.
He'd been off guard for too long, knowing now he could finally look back at the battle going on around him. He would go on to wish he never did.
As he turned around, he saw Raph trying to take down Super Shredder on his own, Splinter laying on the ground several feet away from them both. With no hesitation, Shredder grabbed Raphael by the neck, holding him up for Casey to see.
"CASEY RU-" Raph was cut off by a claw spearing straight through his shell and out his plastron, letting out a small gasp.
All he could see was Casey, and all Casey could see was red. This wasn't happening, this wasn't happening, this wasn't-
Casey shook all thoughts from his mind, letting himself go as he charged at the hulking being.
"GOONGALA!!!!" Casey roared, launching himself at the villain, his mind and body on a warpath.
Shredder threw Raph to the side, losing focus for a split second, giving Casey the opportunity to get his potato masher taser straight into one of the gaps in the madman's armor. Shredder tensed and fell with a groan, and once again Casey used his time to grab Raphael and do the last thing his lover had told him to do: run.
He slung the injured turtle over his shoulder as fast as he could, used to the weight by now. He readied his hook and shot at the nearest building, silently jumping from rooftop to rooftop, not looking back until the Wolf Hotel was far out of sight.
He set his bleeding boyfriend up against the edge of some random building top, tears starting to run down his face when he got a better look at the wound. He could tell immediately that Raph didn't have long to live and that no human hospital could help him in any way.
"Raph! Raphie, goddamnit, stay with me babe, stay with me!" He tugged the bandana off his head as fast as he could, trying to stop the bleeding, but he knew it was no use. However, he wouldn't let Raph go without a fight.
"Case... it's alright, okay? It's... just a... stab, I'm... gonna be... fine..."
"Shit! SHIT! This isn't fine, Raph, this is bad, this is... this is TOO bad, fuck! I can't-"
The turtle looked him in the eyes and grimaced. They both knew time was short.
"I know. Just... lay down... with... me, will ya? The stars... they l-look... so pretty t-tonight..." A few minutes ago, Casey could lie about having a few tears in eyes, but now, he couldn't do that at all. He tossed his mask off with the same carelessness as his bandana and quickly laid down next to Raph's side, placing his head right next to his hand holding the bandana down.
Casey's makeup was a mess, leaving a mess of black and white stains on Raph's plastron. He couldn't even bother to look up at the stars, all he could do was look at Raph, hearing the ninja's breathing slow. "Take... take care... of...them for me.... alright?" Casey nodded, burying his head into Raph's neck and letting out a mumbled
"I love you, Raphie."
"L-Love you.. too, C-Casey Jones... l-love... you... too..." The warrior took his final breath, his eyes looking not to the stars above him as his final sight, but to the brightest star in his life.
That brightest star was about to become the sun, and not because of how much love he had in his heart. It was all the rage Casey had feared, all the rage he'd held back for the sake of his boyfriend breaking open like a dam, filling him and fueling him to do one thing and one thing only: Kill the Shredder.
It was time to take what had been taken from him, and Casey Jones has never been above a few broken bones.
Or murder.

Casey Jones and Keno Reyes
Tumblr media
So… since my tiny little fill in the space sketches of Casey and Keno left… a lot to be desired (at least for me and my standards), I decided to go more in depth on their designs first.
Casey is in his early to mid 20s… probably 23 or 24, younger than 2k3 but older than 2k12 or Rise. You probably noticed he looks quite different in this version and that is because he’s older and lives in a different time and place in Los Reyes.
From a design perspective, I wanted to make him an ideal for the ‘California Myth’: the romanization of California- specifically southern CA- as a place where hot people surf all day and the sun shines all year round without a care in the world. He’s got the strong inverted triangle shape with defined muscles, facial hair, long hair pulled into a messy bun, and that one tank top (if you know you know). He’d probably be a gym rat and drink pizza port or modelo at a Board and Brew and go surfing or skating before work.
I wanted to pull in hints to his past (and more canon Casey) so I decided he’s done his own piercing (not the eyebrow or tongue that you can’t see), he has tattoos from his hockey team and a portrait of baby Angel with wings on his chest. He’s probably got some small diy ones on his fingers and a larger unfinished one on his back. He’s got a wallet chain and a prominent scar on his knee.
While his silhouette isn’t very Casey, his color scheme has much more influence with 2k3’s complexion, dark blue/gray shorts, and a red tank top. As The Penalizer, his clothing is much more monochromatic.
Keno is, despite what most believe, older than Casey at roughly 28. Honestly, I don’t know much about Keno. As of designing him, I haven’t seen The Next Mutation but wanted to include another human character and he was a good fit with a lot for me to work with. He also fits the ‘carefree Californian’ stereotype at first glance in his style but most of the inspiration just came from what felt right for him.
I wanted Keno to appear as a stable and staple figure in their little community by giving him square shapes. He wears a California hoodie because the red and white color scheme matched his original windbreaker (he probably owns this windbreaker but doesn’t need to wear it much). The Santa patterned pj pants is a personal anecdote as my family will get matching pjs every year and they’re the only pairs I own. His hair fluffing up around his headphones is also something that happens to me that I wanted to represent here.
His complexion is the same as in TNM with his jacket being predominantly white and gray with red stripes since he and Casey have the same color palette in their clothes, and since I gave him more focus on red, I wanted to emphasize blue with Keno. His pj pants are blue.

I’m a bit ranty right now admittedly. Anyways, I really do try for facial variety in my drawings. Profiles are still really hard for me to get right and there are even some issues with the above ones but they’re sketches so I’m trying to not worry about it. This was practicing features, making sure the profile silhouettes are able to be picked out and differentiated. Ft casey jones and a humanized Donatello (2012).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also practice dynamics in my sketches a lot! I tend to lose a lot of the motion when I render though, so I need to start actually drawing characters on top of the sketches a bit more, but the above sketches were a bit too off and I didn’t want to overwork them since I really struggled with drawing today and didn’t want to frustrate myself more. Here’s an example of something that I’ve already posted actually that and how I render out action poses:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cape helped but I really did lose a lot of energy in the pose since a lot of things that are off in sketches come out when you line and color something in my experience. If I were to fix something immediately that is fixable for me with my current skill set I’d flip around the hockey stick (and actually make the hockey stick look good lmfao i botched the hell out of it) so the flat part would be facing up. I tend to suck at weapon orientation lol.
Welp! Those r some of the practice things I’ve done today minus the Casey jr thingy i just mentioned I did that before today. I really like talking about this stuff and I don’t really have anywhere else to throw this stuff and so yk what why not here?

2012 Raph Arnold ;3; - [☕] our muses make hot chocolate together
| SEND AN EMOJI FOR A STARTER ! ↳ winter season & holiday based
When Raphael reached Casey's place first he didn't go for the fire escape that lead to his boyfriends bedroom window like he usual always would and did. Raph didn't go for any windows at all, he was told the front door every once in a while was okay. Well that wasn't the wording he was told in. Guess another thing all the Jones' shared in common? They just seemed a bit unphased by the existence of well Raphael. The barely over five feet tall mutant ninja turtle. It was kind of a little taste of what being normal might be he sometimes thought. Teaming up with his boyfriends little sister to annoy him, being just as weak to the little girls antics unable to ever tell her no. Sneaking into his boyfriends room late at night, and having to sneak out the next day. Meeting the 'parents' deal and feeling dread on the possibility they might not like you. Feeling unsure what to call his boyfriends, Dad and such.
Funny enough it seems like such a smaller deal compared to the other shit he dealt with daily. Between family drama, alien invasions, evil ninjas, and just another mutant running and causing havoc in the streets. And yet? it was just as important just as world ending least in Raphael's mind. Though it was hard to say what put him through more an emotional whiplash. Standing before the Shredder or being alone with Arnold.
Glancing around as he slowly crept out from the nearest alleyway that Casey's room face out towards. The street was empty, so Raphael moved his way out to the sidewalk and casually stroll his way to the front door. It's kind of unnatural he admits not hiding in the shadows. Just walking up to a door like this and not sneaking in? Was kind of unnatural almost. It sometimes made like alarm bells sound off in the back of his head. Like exposing himself or leaving himself with out his sai. He knew they were on his belt and that did give him some comfort. Raphael knew it was just habit, near a decade of his life was spent hidden after all. And maybe he liked the chance for normalcy now and again. When he saw the silhouette of someone moving around inside he right away assumed it to be Casey waiting for him. Damn guess they did beat him despite the challenge given in their texts. Raph tried the door knob and found it wasn't locked and just made his way inside quick to shut the door behind himself. Just in case someone came back and saw a turtles shell.
"Man Case you would fuckin' believe the shit I-" Raph had began to speak following his assumption that it was Casey inside waiting for him but all words died in the air when he was instead facing Arnold. Mouth left agape as he had to catch what he just did himself. Internally dropping a million fucks in his mind over his slip up here. "Oh uh sorry Mr- Arnold. Sorry Arnold" Raph found himself floundering that was just great. Unlike April's dad who liked to go by Mr. O'Neil by the turtles over Kirby. Out of respect Arnold seemed more offended if Raph called him Mr.Jone instead. "Case not here yet?" he asks looking around a little before he moved to peek down to his phone. Guess he beat them in the end.
"I uh can wait up in his room, sorry didn' mean to uh ya know?" Raphael said shrugging off how he entered not that Arnold seemed phased in the slightest just offering that same expression they always seemed to wear when Raphael came around. Pft unlike some adults he knew. The turtle feeling stupid at what happened at best. Gaze downcasted he knows what Casey told him before Arnold wasn't going to go grasping at his pearls because Raph dropped a few cuss words after all. Only made him quirk his beak a little the sour feeling before he left the lair returning. Raphael been stewing in it since earlier that day and just wanted to vent but it wasn't something he could really text about. Taking the offer to go to Casey's place meeting up after he got out of practice.
Instead of a simple okay though they offered him something to help warm him up. Raphael's gaze lifted up at that offer noticing he been rubbing at his arms to warm back up, sure he was used to the cool night air but that didn't mean he was immune to being cold and with winter settling in the night air was far more cold. Following behind Arnold as they lead the way to the kitchen. Raphael sort of felt more comfortable in the kitchen considering Arnold let him use it to cook before and even to teach him a little. Raph half expected to see a kettle getting ready to be filed with hot water. That was the last thing he wanted to see in truth. But instead? it was a pot with milk? set on to the stove. Which drew Raphael over to the stove curious in the moment noticing he was being stared at he slightly shirked back out of habit. "You uh don' use water?" he asked looking up at Arnold. "We only ever use my dad's tea kettle. Mostly for tea, not really a fan myself." He slightly explains though there's an underlying bitterness he didn't mean to voice at the time. Even if it was true he didn't like tea all that much but especially now since it made him think of Splinter. The reason he needed to vent a little.
Push it away, stone in a river or whatever that shit is. He tells himself before looking back to the stove top. "how do you make it that way?" there was general interest on Raph's part, sure him and his brothers were not really suited for the kitchen. Well outside Mikey that was. Seemed enough to invite Raphael to try as he took over on the spoon and slipped into the place Arnold had been standing in before. Raphael couldn't explain it but it did sort of give him. Confidence in the kitchen how quick Aronald was to just let Raph take over. Listening on what todo as he slowly stried the milk watching for it to start to bubble as he was told before he was handed what looked like a disk of chocolate. Questioning it but still taking it. He undid the wrapping and dropped the tablet into the pot and went back to it as the milk slowly changed into a slight brown color. Chunks of the chocolate still needed to be dissolved before it be considered done.
Raphael always kind of waited to be told of he was moving his wrist wrong. If his forearm was to lose or his elbow needed to set into a certain spot? But Arnold didn't say anything just stood off to the side and let Raphael have at it. Which made him anxious about fucking up but also? Like Arnold didn't really mind if he did? His stare wasn't like Splinters during training. Observing and fixed on the smaller little misstep. Ready to point out a toe misaligned on his from. Arnold's eyes were on him but it was different he can tell. Thats when they ask how he was. Not been. Checking in on him. He really didn't need to do that. that was the turtles thought. Always quick to assume it some obligated politeness.
"Yeah fine, sorry 'bout eailer though it was Casey inside." He again apologized out of habit mostly but he still didn't mean to come in how he had. If this was Splinter? He be told off about his word choice and of course he be reprimanded for his anger. The thing he just never could seem to control and get rid of. No matter how hard he tried. Not like Splinter ever praised him for any progress he made. Maybe he didn't make any? When Arnold speaks again he slightly looks up at them not fully catching the question or whatever he knows they said something. " 'm jus' mad" He shrugs his shoulder up to dismiss it that usual works Raphael was kind of always mad. He had a more grouchy personality so it was an easy line to give to get the matter dropped. But Arnold was very much like Casey and seem to see the bullshit that excuse umbrella really was. Raphael mulls it over a moment as he continued to stare at the pot, he didn't want to burn the milk somehow. He was waiting for Casey to vent to course chances were by now he just push it away and say it didn't matter anymore. Or? he thought side glancing over to Arnold, maybe?
"I jus' had a-" he wanted to say a fight with Splinter but can you really call it a fight when Splinter never let him speak? "Disagreement with my Dad." More fitting if anything really. Though his tone did slip not held evenly like he meant for it to come out and the faint huff he breathed from his nostrils wasn't hard to miss either. Splinter and Raphael never really spoke after all. Splinter always had the final say in the end. And because Raphael struggle to speak sometimes his tone always harsh and volume loud? he was always being accused of being angry from the start. Which apparently voided any point he had. Raph wish he knew why he did that but sometimes he just got so frustrated! He couldn't help it it just happens. He tries so hard to hold his tongue and watch his tone but the moment it slips? "It uh got kinda heated" He states though he kits up his brow in annoyance, sometimes he wished they did yell. Then at least it feel like he wasn't talking to some wall. But that was that and it was the end of the conversation. Raphael deflated a little.
"So needed to jus' get way from home was all." He admits slightly confessing that meant running away to here. "Not really the kind of I wanna hit somethin' to feel better days." He also admits and owns up to. "jus' I dunno needed a get away I guess?" he tries to explain, "I think this is done?" he changes subject and slightly moves to the side for them to check. He did kind of like that Arnold didn't once muse over him just being disrespectful to his dad when he vaguely explained what happened. Then again he caught Raph when he first entered his home so he had a taste of the truth. Still he let him speak and well if Casey was still gonna be a bit? Maybe it be fine to talk a bit more?

This was absolutely a ton of fun. Great lines, great moments, great story, and absolutely great voice cast. And all the characters just in general, even beyond Splinter, Donatello, Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, and April.
The animation felt very Spider-Verse-like, which I wasn't so sure about while watching the trailer, but it grew on me pretty quickly as the movie went on.
And that (spoilers!) mid-credit scene where the show us a silhouette of The Shredder ... damn! Such feels! And if they add Casey Jones to the next one as well...!
I mean, to be honest, even Michael Bay's TMNT movies were fun, but if we're not going to get more of those, I'm perfectly fine getting more of these. This clearly came across as the work of people who love TMNT, and sometimes it is nice to walk out of movie with the feeling that, sure, it's partially a money thing for them, but also, they do truly seem to care about it and making it amazing (think Henry Cavill with The Witcher, for example).
And just... I mean, the obvious call-outs to Avengers/Hulk, Chris Pine in Star Trek, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and the likes. But also, Splinter's fight scene almost felt like a callback to Jackie Chan Adventures (and, of course, there were some other nods to Jackie Chan as well). And a couple of references to previous TMNT movies. Like, there was plenty for the people who grew up with TMNT as well, without being overly fan-service (though, as Super Mario Bros. showed, there isn't necessarily anything wrong with 'too much' fan service).
Awesome. Absolutely awesome.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"That's so wrong, dude!!" Mikey gasped, eyes still taking in the sight before them. Your arms still connected around Casey's broad shoulders, your face scrunched up against his, "It's not wrong, Mikey, they're just two humans kissing." Donnie corrected him, finger pointed in the air to accentuate his point further.
"Would you two quit it!" Raph groaned, flicking his gaze to the eldest, noting his slumped shoulders and hardening grip on the wooden door. Raph shuffled over to him, placing a palm against his shell and rubbing, "I'm sorry, man. I should've known somethin' like this would'a happened."
"What do you mean??" Donnie questioned, now turning to his brother, voice raising in pitch. Raph rolled his eyes but pointed out that you and Casey had spent a bit of time together at the farmhouse, he recalled when he walked in on you both acting awfully suspicious.
"So you saw all that and didn't think to tell us? Maybe tell Casey to back off?" Donnie huffed. He didn't know why he was so mad, maybe because this was what Casey was like, making a move on someone when he shouldn't.
"And what would you have wanted me to say, Don? Casey don't stick your tongue down (Y/N)'s throat, Leo might possibly like her? How was I supposed to know this would happen? I ain't a mindreader, Don!"
"Er, guys?" Mikey whispered, eyes staring blankly at the moving shadow leaving the room. The two ignored him, continuing with their screaming match, "You could have told him to back off, how hard is that?"
"Guys?"
"Not now Mikey! You know what? Fine, I could'a told Casey to back off and I didn't cause I obviously hate Leo and never want 'im to be happy!"
"Guys!" Mikey screamed out, finally catching their attention. Their chests heaved with panted breaths, both steaming from their shells. Mikey pointed to the open bedroom door, their leader's silhouette advancing further into the living room's entrance. They quickly scurried after him, bumping into each other as they caught his glare aimed at the two embraced humans.
"Are you done yet?" Leo questioned aloud, the sound pulling you apart from Casey. Your breathing was ragged, all you could see was the hurt expression on Leo's face. You stepped towards him with your arms bound to your chest, "Leo..."
He stared deeply into your eyes, eyes full of pain. He took a step back and moved to the kitchen, away from you.
You looked down towards the crushed carpet beneath your trainers, tears brimming in your eyes. Looking up at the sound of a cough, you met the scowl from Leo's brothers.
"What the hell was that!" Raph yelled, arms thrown out in front of him to show his rising anger, his brows were furrowed together, hands balled into tight fists.
"I- it wasn't- I never-" you stuttered out in reply, throat contorting. Donnie looked between you and Casey, "Would someone like to tell us what's going on?" he seemed calm, but it was a front to lie to you all.
Casey spoke up, "I, um, shouldn't have done that, huh?" he chuckled nervously, right hand tucked under the pile of black he called hair.
"Are you kidding me? Ugh, Casey Jones, you are the biggest moron I've ever met! I can't believe you'd be so stupid as to do something like that!" You yelled out, face red with anger and frustration.
"Woah, you didn't seem to mind."
"Only because I was so shocked outta my mind to register what was going on!"
"What was going on?" Mikey asked, voice nervous. You shunned your shoulder to Casey, not wanting to deal or even look at him anymore. Casey's shoulders tensed as he went through his thought process, though some would say he didn't have any to begin with.
"You looked sad, you were sad, and I-" he shut his mouth, eyes blinking around the room while he gathered his thoughts, "When June left, you came to me for comfort while ya cried it out, picked ya self up again. You were vulnerable and I took advantage of that, I just thought you wanted the same thing." the more he spoke the more he became disgusted with himself.
Of course you didn't want the same thing, all that time at the farmhouse you purposefully avoided his advancements, always questioned how Leo was doing, he should've seen the signs before it was too late. He rubbed the back of his head, fingers cascading through the tangled locks, "Look, I'm sorry, okay? Won't happen again, I promise."
You still hadn't looked at him, instead, you chose to watch the turtle's reactions, they had known Casey longer than you; only they could tell you if he was being genuine. Donnie felt your gaze, he met your eyes and with a slow nod answered your silent question. You didn't smile, only sighed and turned to the grundled twenty-year-old, "I appreciate the apology, but I...it's going to be different now, we're going to be different now."
"I know, and I'll work my way back to wingman one way or another." he smiled, seemingly taking this rejection very well, guess the guy was used to it. You felt pressure on your right shoulder, Mikey's head was casually leaning on it as he flickered his eyelashes at you, a puppy-dog expression on his face: "I thought I was your wingman?"
You held in a small giggle, patting his head with your fingertips, "You are Mikey, don't worry." He beamed at that, quickly moving from your shoulder to sit perched in front of the t.v, how he was able to get over it that quickly bemused you slightly.
With the room going back to a calm atmosphere, there was only one problem left to deal with: Leo. You shared a glance with Donnie and Raph, your view shifting to the entrance of the kitchen. Donnie gave you a thumbs up and a nervous smile while Raph nodded his head in the kitchen's general directions, arms folded across his chest. You sucked in a deep breath and approached the daunting archway, fingers flinching in and out of a fist.
There he was, leaning against the far corner of the countertops, head facing towards the floor and eyes sealed shut. His arms were folded over his chest, his legs crossed over and his mask tails slung over his left shoulder. His breathing was calm but the moment he sensed you enter it picked up again, he couldn't look at you but already knew where you resided in the room, sensed your guilty conscious from a mile away.
He could faintly smell your perfume from where he stood, your natural aroma: the smell of fresh cotton and wisteria. He flinched at the delightful smell, feeling himself be drawn into you all over again, but he couldn't, he had to stay strong. He was mad at you, he shouldn't be, it's not like he owned you or anything, he had never made a contract with you that you could only kiss who he said.
Your footsteps seemed to echo in the empty room, you slipped between the dining chair, fidgeting while you found your words. Leo had yet to look at you, to even move from his current position, "W-would you care to join me?" he heard you mutter. He didn't reply, your only answer was in his actions. He turned away from you, arching his arms against the counter as he leaned over it, shell facing you.
So that's a no then.
You sighed quietly, you should have expected this, of course he would hate your guts, you would too if you were in his position. With the tip of your index finger, you began to trace the lines in the table, the curves and indents of the ageing wood.
"What you saw back there- it wasn't like that." you began, while your attention was drawn to the bows of the table you still picked up on the way his muscles tensed. You wanted to look back at him, wanted to catch his blue eyes, but you hadn't the courage to do so, "Casey- he's, well- he's Casey, he thought he was helping me. It was just a
misunderstanding, all my fault really, I guess I led him on unintentionally."
This is petty, Leo thought to himself, scanning over the tiles and grout between them, looking for an easy distraction. He should be apologising to you not the other way around, it's not like he could stay mad at you anyway; just one look into your eyes could break him. Maybe that's why he hasn't faced you yet, scared he'll lose the anger and just turn to mush when he faces the person he loves. And that-
Wait, wait a minute...person he loves? He loves you. He loves you. He loves you! It was so obvious now! All this time he thought he just liked you but no, he loves you.
"-then June left and I was alone with Casey and I still needed a shoulder to cry on and-" you silenced yourself when the chair opposite you screeched as it moved, a green hand pulling it further away from the table until he could fit inbetween. Leo got himself comfortable, shuffling the chair forward until he could lean his arms against the table in front of him. With those oceanic eyes of his staring into yours and a small nod given to you, you continued your apology.
"Casey read the room wrong, read me wrong and kissed me. I was so stunned by what was going on I didn't have time to pull away, and that's when you came in. Leo, honestly, it was never meant to happen, it never would have happened. I didn't mean to hurt you and if you hate me I totally understand, I'd also agree if you wanted me to stop hanging around with you guys anymore."
The room stayed silent after your admittance, an eery silence that rattled your bones, brought out your deepest, darkest thoughts. But then he spoke, his rich, deep voice rumbled out, you almost believed that it shook the table, "I don't want that." he stated, eyes blinking closed.
You tilted your head at him, if that wasn't a worthy enough punishment then what was? Death, the loss of your life? It was a little extreme for a situation like this.
"You don't want what?"
"I don't want you to leave." he sighed, one that seemed built up, "(Y/N), when I saw you and Casey...together, sure, it hurt me. But what I think hurt me more was all these dumb images that were brought up because of it, thoughts of you and Casey getting together, a wedding, a home...stuff I would never be able to provide you with."
Your cheeks burned a deep red, what he was insinuating...marriage, children, a home..he wanted a family, and with you no less. It struck you all too quickly, you didn't know if you wanted to be happy and scream from the highest rooftops or hide in the farthest hole underground.
"What are you saying?" you whispered out, voice croaky and unsure. Leo slid his hands to yours, snaked his fingers between yours, "You shouldn't be apologising to me, I should be apologising to you-"
"Leo, that isn't necessary, I was in the wrong, not you."
"Please?" he begged, squeezing your hands. The feeling that sparked within you against his touch was magical, you had always felt an unspoken connection to the turtle in blue but feared what would happen if you went at it.
"I let my feelings get in the way of you and what you were feeling. And I won't lie, when you admitted to not liking Casey just now, it did make me feel happy. I thought for sure you were-"
"His?" you finished his sentence, watching as he lowered his head to hide the developing blush. He nodded his head slowly, "Yeah, it was dumb, I know. No one owns you, no one should own anyone. I just- I...I couldn't live with the idea of you not being with me." he finally met your eyes again, a warm smile on his lips.
He then released your hands and stood, pushing the chair away with the backs of his knees. He walked around the table to stand in front of you, a hand raised out to you, an offer which you gladly took. As he pulled you up, his other hand grasped your own and pulled you closer to him, "(Y/N), I like you, I like you so unbelievably much. You captured my attention the first day we met, back in Times Square at the ceremony, I only saw you for a second but I couldn't seem to get you out of my head; a mistake on my part."
You gasped, picking up on his not so subtle hint. Your hand broke away from his to snake up to his left eye, it was still sore and slightly red but it was healing. You looked back to him, catching the goofy, love-struck smile on his lips, "You got that because of me?"
"Hmm," he hummed, taking your hand back, already missing the warmth it provided. You shouldn't have laughed but a small chuckle fell anyway, "Then I guess I should apologise, huh? I didn't mean to be so distracting as I ran for my life."
"It wasn't that which caught my attention, you fought back, you saved people. Hell, you even saved Mikey when he got too cocky with himself, most people would have let him die, but you...you were different."
"Plus, I brought your sword back." you pointed out with a toothy grin, "Oh don't even mention that, did you know how hot you looked swinging that thing around? I mean, your form was all wrong but-"
"But I looked hot while doing it, right?"
"Yeah," he whispered out, "Yeah you did."
You grew closer together, not even realising the empty space between you was growing smaller and smaller until your chests bumped together. "(Y/N), I'm sorry I sometimes act like an absolute ass at times, guess it's just in my nature. But, I absolutely adore you, I want to see you laugh, tell dumb jokes, and fight like a badass and I'll always be there when you need a shoulder to cry on. I should've known what I was feeling and come to you the moment I felt it, I'm so-"
You had heard enough, pushing just that little distance you pressed your mouth against his, killing any words that fell from his lips. Leo's eyes widened at the realisation of you kissing him, like, you were actually kissing him! Him of all turtles!
It hadn't lasted long, you pulled away a little too quickly for Leo's liking, though he still took joy in your post-kiss face: cheeks a bright red, lips slightly parted and pupils dilated. Though he imagined he couldn't have looked any better from your perspective.
"What was that for?" he questioned, doubting if he should just let a good thing be a good thing.
"I like you too, and I don't want to hear you apologising anymore, okay?"
"Even if I act like a total ass?"
"It's just in your nature," you smirked, mimicking his words from earlier. Leo grinned at you, a little sparkle flashing in his eyes. He gripped your hands a little tighter, "I know I said I don't own you, but you definitely own me."
"Really?" you asked, astonished the conversation even got this far. When you had originally walked in here you imagined Leo hashing it out against you and someone storming off, not this.
"D-do you mind if we kiss again? I sorta liked it," he nervously laughed, cheeks blooming again. you nodded your head repeatedly and moved the small distance to seal your lips together again. Leo grew more bold, releasing your hands and hoovering them over your hips, but he lacked confidence, scared he'd push too far.
With reluctance, he began to pull his hands away but stopped when you tugged at him. Your hands lapped over his, dragging them back to your waist with confidence, if he wasn't going to do it then you might as well.
You stayed like that for a while, wrapped up in each other, lips moving with an increase in speed and fewer breaths. Hands tightening their hold and hearts beating faster. This felt right, for both of them. Bound together by chance in a time where luck was a dying hope.
Curse of the Clans part 36! @brightlotusmoon @selfindulgenz @scentedcandlecryptid
Content warning!! Physical attack, restraint, cursing
SMACK!
April woke up to a solid, heavy thud. It took her a moment to recognize her own room; it was her first night staying in her house for almost three weeks. Every time her parents would go away on their business, the house would be too quiet for her to want to stay in it very long. But now the lair was just as quiet, and with her brothers gone, she didn't want to spend much time there either. It just made her sad. Her conflict with Splinter and Cassandra served to make things worse.
SMACK!
That sound came again, and this time her head snapped immediately to the window. Another impact, and another. A steady, drumming sound. April slid out of bed and into her slippers, slowly approaching the window and pulling back the darkened blinds. Surely the brothers couldn’t be back so soon?
April gave a shout and fell away as another projectile was launched at the window and smacked against it. Was that a rock? Quickly, she scrambled back over to the window and peered outside. Then she opened the window, just barely ducking her head in time to dodge another rock. She slowly peeked back over the windowsill and threw her arms open.
“What the hell Casey?!”
“Sorry!” Cassandra called back from the streets, “You opened the window!”
“No shit, Jones!” April snarled back, and then fell to a weak laugh. “What are you doing throwing rocks at my house at…” She checked the time, “Two in the morning?”
“Come down!” Sunita called up; she was in her human form, which hadn’t changed at all in the years April knew her. Skin a shade darker than April’s own, and hair of ink pulled tight again her scalp in braids.
“Not tonight, yall.” April leaned on her window sill and gave a tired smile.
“What?” Cassandra scoffed in an exaggerated fashion, “Why not?!”
“I have a headache.” Was April’s excuse; she didn't have one, but she certainly didn't feel good. She just couldn’t exactly pin point what part of her body it was that ached.
“I have ibuprofen!” Cassandra held up her purse.
“Good night, girls.” April closed the window.
***
“Well, that stinks.” Sunita put a hand on her hip as she turned to face the shorter Cassandra. “Should we knock again?”
Cassandra considered. She gave a smile that was undetectable due to her mask and cracked her fingers and neck. “I have a better idea~”
***
April was more than happy to enjoy the warm, weighted embrace of her comforter, hugging her childhood teddy bear to beckon sleep to return to her faster. With her injuries, this was shaping up to be the most boring summer of her life! But to be fair, the promise of a simple, normal summer of relaxation definitely appealed to her, no matter how far out of her reach she knew it was. A girl could always dream, right?
April’s body shuttered. It told her to open her eyes, and when she did it was like her worst nightmares came true, though for only a moment before her mind caught up with the fear in her heart and recognized the silhouettes standing over her like villains in the night.
“Casey? Sunita? What are you—?”
Cassandra grabbed April around her waist and hoisted the teen over her shoulder.
“Casey! Put me down!” April growled and kicked her legs, but Cassandra only laughed.
“Sunita— help me! Get her legs!” Cassandra howled, and Sunita hurried to restrain April’s legs while Cassandra supported her front, both of them holding April between them like a hammock. “You’re coming to girls night April!”
They started to carry April toward the open window. April’s initially startled screams slowly turned to laughter. She still struggled, but her actions were more playful than anything. They stopped at the window, though Cassandra had already climbed out of it.
“She ain’t got no shoes, get her shoes!” Cassandra laughed.
Sunita’s arm turned from human back to its slime form and extended out to grab April’s shoes and a pair of socks. Cassandra forced April’s feet still so Sunita could put her shoes on, and then they continued out the window and into the fire escape.
“Guys— I need a mask!” April laughed.
“Got one!” Cassandra reached into her purse and pulled out a blue mask, fixing it over April’s mouth and nose while still carrying her with one arm. Down the fire escape they went, and only when their feet had touched the ground did they put April down.
“Are you proud of yourselves?” April huffed, putting her hand on her hip.
“Very.” Cassandra smirked.
“You could at least have let me get dressed!” April laughed, “I can’t go out for girls night in my PJs!”
“Why not?” Sunita asked innocently.
“Cause It's not proper for a social setting!” April scoffed.
Sunita was quiet for a time before whispering, “Humans are so weird…”
“Oh yeah. Forgot you’re a slime dude.” Cassandra turned to face April, “You’ll be fine! It’s not like we’re going drinking! You’re not old enough; believe me, I’ve checked.”
“Then what are we doing?” April asked, genuine curiosity seeping into her voice.
***
The trio got close enough to see the mutant hippo known as Hypno Ron wandering the shadows of the streets; he didn't seem to have a care in the world as to being spotted. After all, he could always just Mesmer any human to forget! April wasn’t so keen on how reckless the mutant was being, but Cassandra locked on to the hippo almost immediately from the rooftops.
“Oh! Oh! I got this one!” Cassandra cleared her throat, and when she spoke again, it was in a heavy accent; her best attempt at mocking the way Hypno spoke. “Oh oh, deary me! I simply have to find a tiny suit for my tiny worm friend for our anniversary! How am I ever going to find one in time to enjoy tiny tea cakes and orange peels with the lovely Warren Stone?”
“Orange peels?” April scrunched up her nose.
“What? Worms taste with their body.” Cassandra shrugged.
“Oh! There’s one!” Sunita spotted the next mutant, Repo Mantis, buzzing around. She dropped her voice low and raspy. “Rrrrr. I just know there’s a birthday cake to repo ‘round here somewhere. That three-year old’s hiding well, but I’ll sniff em out with my sniffer.” Sunita made exaggerated sniffle motions that made April and Cassandra almost fall over laughing.
“This one’s mine!” April claimed a few buildings down when they spotted the mutant prairie dog wandering an alleyway, her nose twitching in the search for decent morsels. April didn't know her name, so she had to improvise, clearing her throat. “Can I dig here? Noooo this isn’t a good place for digging? Here? Maaaaybe not? Here? No. Man, none of these places are good for digging!”
Sunita and Cassandra were covering their mouths trying to keep their laughter to a minimum. The prairie dog seemed to hear them anyway, looking up from her curious search to twitch her ears in search of the noises.
The girls all ducked down low to hide from her sight, all covering their mouths and their snickers until the suspicions had died down. Then, at Cassandra’s command, all three of them peeked back over the edge and down at the mutant as she continued her work.
“Ohhhh the voices are back!” April carried on, this time in a lower whisper, “Hm? However will I pass the time? I know!” she cleared her throat and started to sing in her mock accent. “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene! I’m begging of you please don’t take my man! Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Joleeeene! I’m singing this song just because I caaaaan!”
The prairie dog looked up again. “Did someone call me?”
That made the trio of girls fall apart laughing until their sides hurt and they felt like they might be sick if they laughed any harder. Through the next hour, they found more and more people to mock from afar, both mutants and humans, but after the hour had passed, April was starting to feel completely exhausted. The constant running and laughing made the soreness of her side ache even worse, and now her head really was hurting, and her stomach too.
“Sorry gals.” She told the two of her friends when she felt her body couldn’t hold out any longer. “Really gotta turn in for the night.”
“What?” Cassandra groaned, and Sunita seemed disappointed, “Come on! We still got two hours before the sun comes up!
“And I really should be spending it sleeping.” April sighed, “But I had a really good time! I’ll see you in the morning, girls?”
“Do you want us to walk you home?” Sunita asked softly.
“No, no, don’t trouble yourselves!” April waved her hand, “I know you two are having fun, and I can handle myself.”
“Are you sure?” Cassandra asked, “It’s no trouble…”
“It’s fine! I grew up with the turtles, I can handle myself!”
“If you say so…”
“I’ll be fine. Really.” April tried to reassure.
“At least take my knife.” Cassandra said, giving the long blade over to April, “I feel bad for abducting you without your bat.”
“You don’t have to do that.” April said.
“I want to!” Cassandra beamed. “Besides, I’ll just come back and get it in the morning! No big whoop.”
“Well then… thank you.” April turned the knife over in her hands a few times. “I promise I’ll give it back.”
April found where she was by checking the nearest street signs. She wasn’t more than a few blocks from home. The streets would be far easier to traverse than the buildings; as much as she had trained with the brothers, she never did quite get the hang of building jumping. That’s why Donatello had his special seat in his armor just for her! Thinking of Donatello, April felt a sudden sadness wash over her. She missed his sarcastic voice, his dramatic flare, his simple presence!
When she was out of view of Cassandra and Sunita, the first thing April did was let herself finally release the bile that had been churning her stomach for the past ten minutes, and she felt a lot better when the vomit was outside instead of in. Then she started to cry immediately after, but she didn't know why. She missed Donatello, sure, but enough to cry? And though her head hurt it wasn’t the agonizing, ripping headaches that usually plagued her, so it wasn’t the pain. Maybe it was just a bit of everything mixed into one, and that was why she felt so… not good. She wanted to feel better, and maybe crying could help that! It wasn’t like she could stop now. Once the tears started to fall, they just got heavier.
The tears fell hard as April entered a shortcut alley. Then she stopped when she saw a man at the other end; a man that looked to be just minding his own business, leaned up against a wall drinking from something within a paper bag. She already had a hunch of what it could be, and she certainly didn't want to cross his path. Not when there was a longer, but safer, path she could take instead. Gripping the knife in her pocket, April started to back away; it was preferable to turning her back on the man. At least, that’s what she thought before she collided with a bigger, heavier weight.
April tried to turn around. Powerful arms wrapped around her, one around her chest holding her in a grip so tight she thought her ribs might break, and another holding a cloth to her mouth. She held her breath for as long as she could, kicking out and trying repeatedly to strike the mans legs and groin, but all she met was muscle and what must have been an athletic cup protecting him. Figures! Just her luck!
When April could hold her breath no longer, she squeezed her eyes shut as the acrid fumes overwhelmed her, followed quickly by darkness.
The speculation on Recruit’s identity has ramped up after the latest episodes, here are the ideas I’ve seen so far:
1. Recruit is Casey.
2. Recruit is Angel.
3. Recruit is (or will be) Casey’s daughter, sister, etc.
Personally, I think a combination of 1 and 2 is what’s going on- Casey’s full name is usually “Arnold Casey Jones”, but that wouldn’t make sense for a girl character... and we just so happen to have a girl’s name that starts with “A” lying around, making Recruit’s name “Angel Casey Jones”.
Recruit has Casey’s personality- she’s loud, hotheaded, impulsive, obsessive, kind of a dumbass, serious to the point of comedy, and we love her for it.
She also has a fragment of Angel’s story- the whole “ruining her life by becoming part of a dangerous criminal organization” thing.
As for the idea that Recruit isn’t Casey... I just don’t see any evidence for it? If I’m missing something then by all means let me know, but so far the only argument I’ve seen for it is that “Casey wouldn’t be a villain”, which doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.
Consider who Casey usually is when we first meet him in Mirage, in the 1990 movie, in 2k3, in 2k12- the kind of person who would kill or bludgeon someone into unconsciousness to punish purse-snatching. Is that “heroic”? Is that what a “good person” would do? Raph always intervenes before Casey can do anything too permanent, but without that lucky moment of coincidence, Casey definitely would have killed someone sooner or later- and it’s entirely possible that wouldn’t deter him from his crusade.
So yeah, Caseys have teetered on the edge of villainy before. And there’s a very clear reason why Recruit!Casey would be a villain, a reason that’s at the core of the TMNT franchise and is especially clear in Rise: family.
Recruit joined the Foot Clan when she was seven. Her line about how she was “accepted into every clan [she] applied to” in “How To Make Enemies” suggested that she spent a while before that looking for any group to join, to belong to. She devoted herself entirely to the Foot, and later to the Brownie Scouts, with such a terrifying intensity because she has nothing else. Recruit is a villain because the only people she had growing up who were even vaguely like family were members of a demon-worshiping cult. She’s made no mention of family, friends, school, other mentors... she has no other connections whatsoever. Just look at her room!
Tumblr media
It doesn’t look like she’s recently moved in, so she didn’t live with the Foot Clan before leaving them. The room has electricity and isn’t bare or rundown, so someone’s got to be paying her bills. But there are no footsteps in the hall, no family photos, no cards from relatives, no handwritten notes. Nobody’s there. Nobody at all.
Recruit doesn’t even have anyone to hate! (Anyone we haven’t already seen, that is.) When Recruit has some grievance, she makes sure everyone within earshot knows it. Why haven’t we heard anything like “I hate that my dad is never around” or “Ugh, my brother is so obnoxious”? At the very least, I’d expect a punching bag or dartboard with someone’s face on it.
Since Recruit is the kind of person who’s never had a middling opinion in her life, she would either love Casey or hate him. But she clearly has nobody to love or hate; therefore, she doesn’t know Casey.
It doesn’t make sense to say that she will meet Casey, either. There’s just no foreshadowing for it. No rumors of some mask-wearing vigilante prowling the streets and brutalizing crooks, no familiar silhouettes interrupting the background skyline, no graffiti of his name or symbols.
So if we have evidence that Recruit is Casey, and no evidence that Recruit isn’t Casey... what other conclusion could we possibly draw?
(I’m genuinely asking! Is there any evidence I’ve overlooked? Any interpretation I haven’t considered?)
One Man Conversations
Have some Casey angst, cuz why not? :P
(Edit: This was during Season 2, The Invasion, when Casey went to go find his family. Just in case you guys get confused. XP)
_____________________________________
Chaos ensued outside the doors of the Party Wagon.
Leo lay still on its floor, undisturbed and unconscious. Bruises and scars were all over his green, scaly skin. A long crack ran across his plastron under the straps, which were miraculously saved. A women's muffled scream filtered through the doors of the vehicle.
Yet he remained unmoved.
The door to the drivers side of the front opened, and Casey Jones climbed into the seat as fast as he could, ducking his head not a moment too late as a few Kraang droids passed the window. He watched them silently, waiting even after they disappeared around the corner for a few moments before making the slightest movement. Casey sighed in relief as he straightened back up against the seat, and his face grew solemn. He sat there for a moment, lost in thought, staring blankly at the wheel in front of him. The Party Wagon muffled any outside noise, so he at least got some sort of quiet that allowed him to think. His eyes slowly rose to the front mirror, which showed Leo's form laying in the back. They filled with sympathy, and he let out another sigh.
“Well,” He said to no one with a wry smile, reaching for the seatbelt. “My dad and sister isn't in the house, so I guess saving them was a bust.” He turned the key to turn on the van, turning out of the alleyway he had hidden it in. “Might have been caught up in all this chaos. Best case scenario, they were able to escape and find somewhere safe to hide.” He lost his smile. “... Though I doubt it.”
For a while the drive to their designated meeting spot was quiet. But Casey hated the quiet, it made his thoughts sound too loud, and he couldn't stand it for much longer. He decided to pretend that Leo wasn't unconscious, that he wasn't covered in bruises and talked to him casually, as if having a conversation with himself was completely normal.
“Your brothers are lucky though. They always get out of sticky situations. All four of you do.” Casey swerved around a fallen car that lay on its side in the street. “Sometimes I envy that. But I'll get there one day. And when I do, I'll make sure my family is extra protected. Maybe I'll be better than all of you.” He chuckled snarkily.
He paused, as if waiting for an answer. Waiting for any indication that Leo would respond with a casual quip back. The only thing he got was the slightest groan that escaped his lips when the Party Wagon drove over some rubble and jostled him slightly. Nothing else followed afterwards.
Casey finally dropped his act, looking down at the road and slumping his shoulders. “Ah, who am I kidding. That won't happen. Even if you did get the snot kicked out of you, you still look rockin’.” He looked up at the mirror again. “If I'm being totally honest, you're really not as bad as Raph says you are. He acts like everything you do is the end of the world, but you know, he tends to overreact alot. It's what he does. You try to do what's best for your family, like I do for mine, and I respect that.” Casey smirked. “Though I would never admit that to your face if you were awake. You know, pride and dignity and all that stuff. Plus, we don't talk to each other much, so… It'd be sort of strange.” He looked back at the road as he turned a corner. “Can't help but wonder though… What you think of me.”
The ground rumbled suddenly, forcing Casey to hit the brakes and the Party Wagon skidding a few inches. He looked to his left quickly to see where the disturbance had come from, and noticed the silhouettes of his friends standing huddled together, watching something large, pink, and slimy wriggle out of a bigger machine.
Casey's eyes widened when it clicked. “Kraang Prime.” He muttered.
He scowled after a second, then slammed the gas and kept the steering wheel gripped tightly in his hands to keep it straight. He flipped on his helmet, determination in his eyes as he sped up faster.
“Hold on, Leo!” He shouted, eyes kept on the unsuspecting alien brain target. “This might get a little bit bumpy!” He braced himself, grinning from ear to ear as the vehicle drove into the side of the large alien, and as soon as he made contact, he shouted, “This is soo metall!!!”
Kraang Prime flew a few feet away, and the Party Wagon landed not so gracefully back on the street a few inches from April and the Turtles.
Casey rolled down the window, mentally marveling at the surprise on all of their faces as he said, “You guys need a lift?”
“Casey!” April cried in relief as the turtles ran up to the side door.
“Hey, Red.” Casey replied, winking at her with a sly grin.
She climbed into the passenger seat next to him, ignoring his antics. Once Mikey, Raph, and Donnie were all settled, he drove off, leaving behind the Kraang and the city.
“Geeze, Casey, you could've been more careful.” Raphael grumbled. “You could've injured Leo.”
“But I didn't.” Casey responded proudly, to which Donnie sighed at. “I saved your butts, why can't I ever get a simple thanks?”
No one gave him an answer. He looked back to scold them, and he then realized why. It had grown solemn, the look on the brother's faces as they looked down at Leo was more than enough to tell Casey that now was not the time for jokes. He looked back at the road, falling silent as well.
“I'm sorry Leo..” He heard Donnie mutter. “You were right. If we would have left the city like you said, the Kraang would never have found the lair and started the invasion.” There was a pause. “None of this would've happened...”
He glanced over at April as she spoke up. “I have a place where we can go upstate. My old family home. We used to go there every summer. We can stay there for as long as we want, no one is around there for miles.”
Casey flipped up his mask, showing a smile in an attempt to lighten the mood. “Upstate, huh?” He said. “Sounds good to Casey Jones.”
April didn't smile back. “And what about your dad and little sister. Did you find them?”
His smile fell, and he looked back at the road. So much for cheering people up. “No sign of them. They probably got.. Kraangitized.”
He felt her head lay against his shoulder, and he didn't say much else afterwards.
“What's gonna happen now, Raph?” Mikey asked, almost hesitantly.
“For the first time in my life,” Raph responded. “I have no idea, little brother.”
The highway sign passed over their heads, like a final sign that told them they were actually leaving the only home they ever knew.
“I miss Master Splinter..” Mikey muttered.
Casey missed his family.
Ok this is a little short story I’m writing for my friend @blossom-skies based on her rp with her OC Jen. This will be a 2 to 3 part story. I hope she and you enjoy it!
Meeting Ms. Jones
Part 1
Jen lay at the bottom of her cold lonely cell, pain still ravaging her tired and worn body. The darkness seeped into her soul taking away the warm thoughts of the warm summer air somewhere outside these god damned walls and the slowly fading hope she would be saved. She had lost track of time as the hours and days drifted by endlessly as she stared at the ceiling of this hell hole. Was it days ago or was it months ago that she was taken from the comfort of her home?
Jen’s brother Casey had told her about Karai and the two criminals that Baxter Stockman and Oroku Saki had mutated into a giant rhino and a wart hog a few years ago. She thought the story was entertaining but when the female ninja and the two mutants showed up at her door for an unwanted house call Jen was no longer amused. But she was a Jones so like hell if she was going down without a fight.
In the end Jen’s street smarts and ability to kick some ass was no match for two mutated overachieving lumbering fools and a trained assassin. The next thing she knew Jen woke up strapped to a freezing examination table and the missing scientist from TCRI hovering over her with a syringe filled with some sort of florescent purple liquid.
Adjusting his glasses Dr Baxter Stockman leaned down waving the syringe in her face, “So Ms. Jones, it took us a bit to track you down but Karai always gets her man…well woman I should say. Since we haven’t been able to locate your brother Casey Jones and Ms O’Neil you were the next best thing.”
Jen had no idea what was going on? What did this idiot want with her brother and his girlfriend?  Testing the restraints that held her in place she started to struggle. “What do you want with my brother?”
“We just want to ask him a few questions that’s all, but I guess you’ll have to do for now.” Lifting the syringe up to his eyes he flicked the cylinder raising the bubbles to the top before expelling them from the needle with a single push on the plunger.
Jen watched the purple liquid squirt from the tip of the needle landing on the table next her bound hand. “W-whats in that?” she stammered suddenly getting a little nervous. This was a world renowned genius who went off the deep end when he met the Shredder. Casey had told her what he did and what he was capable of and now she was at his mercy holding a strange looking substance.
“Oh my dear this ol thing?” he waved the syringe theatrically in her face again giving her a sickening smile. “This is liquid motivation. I need some information from you Ms. Jones and if you corporate you’re free to go but if you…..disappoint me this lovely purple ooze will transform you into something of nightmares. You saw our sweet and gentle Beebop and Rocksteady right? That could be you.”
Jen felt the knot coil in her stomach; this was not good, defiantly not good.
“The turtles bitch, where are they?” Jen heard a venomous voice call behind her. Twisting as much as her restraints would allow Jen arched to see Karai come into view, the scowl on her face contorting her feminine Japanese features.
“Turtles?” Jen felt the word roll from her lips in confusion. What were they getting at? What about turtles?
“Don’t play dumb with me Ms Jones, your brother is friends with those meddlesome mutant turtles and my master wants them and you will give them to me.” Stockman hissed positioning the syringe’s needle down aimed for her flesh.
Jen began to struggle again, fear fueling the hard snaps of her wrists. “I don’t know what you’re talking about? I don’t know anything about any fucking turtles? Jesus Christ please I don’t want to be a mutant!” the tone in her voice began to rise into hysteria as the needle lowered to the crook of her arm.
“Where are they?” he asked again looking up at Karai seeming to be looking for permission.
“I told you! I don’t know!”
“Is that your final answer Jen? Karai smirked resting her hands on either side of Jen’s head staring intently down into her frantic eyes. “Stockman here is very eager to see if the ooze he created is the same as the stuff that mutated Beebop and Rocksteady. And he needs a willing test subject to try it on and you my dear are about to volunteer if you don’t give us what we want.”
Jen’s eyes moved from Karai’s cool and collected gaze to the maddening dark pools of the scientist. Tears threatened to spill forth from her eyes, she didn’t want to mutant but she was a Jones and Jones don’t cry. She could hear her dads voice whisper in the back of her head, “You’re stronger then you know.” Gaining the resolve she needed from her father’s words she spat in the mad scientists face. “I don’t know about any mutant turtles but if I did I wouldn’t tell you!”
Needless to say Stockman got his test subject and now Jen was moaning in pain on the cold cell floor, god knows where as the mutation reached its end. Jen didn’t have a mirror to see it but she could feel the changes. Her skin was no longer smooth but rough and from what little light that filtered through the bared window on her cell door from the hallway she could see blue and purple. Her skin wasn’t the most alarming change though, not by a long shot. Dragging behind her lay a long curled tail which she could control, that was sort of cool. Her five fingers were reduced to three and her toes down to two. Thankfully her hair still sat on her head and she could tell something was changing with her eyesight. The dark shapes of her cell were starting to sharpen and become visible and it wasn’t from her eyes adjusting to the dark. It was something more, something to do with her mutation.
The tingling in her body receded and the mind numbing all over ache faded as Jen let out a shaky breath curling up into a ball. As the numbing pain finally began to give her reprieve her worn out body relaxed letting her fall deep into blissful unconsciousness. She wanted to go home, but how was she going to get out of here?
A loud explosion rocked her confinement jostling her from her sleep.  Ignoring the dull ache in her limps Jen scrambled to her feet peering out of her cell door her new three fingered hands clutching the metal bars. Again another explosion rang out but this time the large door at the end of the hallway blew off its hinges. The repercussion from the blast sent her sailing backwards slamming into the makeshift cot.
“Jennifer!” a muffled familiar voice cut through the ringing in her ears. “JEN!”
“Cas?” Jen coughed trying to get to her feet. Smoke and flying debris clouded the hallway keeping her brother from her sight. “CASEY!” Jen managed to scramble to her feet and back to her cell door reaching out into the void grasping for her salvation.
“Jen! Where are you?” she could hear him coughing his voice getting closer.
“I’m at the end in a cell!”
“Hey Casey, is she in here?” Another voice came through the confusion and Jen tried to see who was with her brother.
“Leo, yeah she’s in here! Where’s Raphael we might need him?”
“Right here Jones.” A deep voice with a prominent New York accent came after her brothers.
As the dust began to settle Jen could see three silhouettes making their way towards her. One she could see was her brother but the other two were large with unnatural bulk, and they were definitely not human. Which brought reality slamming back reminding her she was no longer human as well. Her heart jumped into her throat as her tail uncoiled slapping against the cool floor, her brother didn’t know, he didn’t fucking know and he was about to see her. A strangled cry came from her throat unexpectedly as she retreated back into the corner, into the shadows.
“Jen!?” Casey cried out reaching her cell his body slamming into the metal.
“Wait!” Jen screamed wrapping her arms around her changed body.
“Jen, what are you talking about? We’re getting you out of there. Raph! Get this door off!”
Within seconds the door began to creak and moan under the pressure of this Raphael’s strength. Fear raced through her realizing Casey was about to see her in her new form and she could feel something happening with her skin. Instinct took over and she pressed back up against the wall as the door was ripped from its hinges and thrown to the side. A large shadow retreated as Casey came hurtling through the door his eyes searching frantically in the darkened room. His eyes passed over her never focusing in on her form. Did he not see her?
“Jen?” his voice was strained unable to find his little sister.
Again his gaze moved over where she was standing and still nothing. He couldn’t see her? Then two large green bodies came through the door distracting Jen from her distraught brother. They were huge and from what she could deduce they were turtles. Wait! Turtles?! These were the turtles Stockboy and Karai were looking for?
One was larger than the other; the bigger one had a tattered red bandanna over his head the tails dangling down the front of his chest. Wrapped around his impressively muscled body and massive shell was a harness that came over his broad shoulders and around his waist meeting at the lower center of his plastron. The only piece of clothing he was wearing was a grey pair of shorts held up with a white belt. On his left should was a lone shoulder pad for some sort of protection?  In his green three fingered hands he held sai dripping with blood. The one word that came to mind when she looked at him was brute.
Jens’ eyes drifted to the slightly smaller one just beside him but there was no mistaking he was equally as intimidating as the red brute. Around his green scalp was a blue mask highlighting his dazzling blue eyes, momentarily awe struck Jen needed to remind herself to breath. His body wasn’t as bulky as the brute but he was leaner and seemed deadlier. Sitting diagonal across his plastron was his leather harness and in his hands were twin katanas. He too had on black shorts with knees pads with some weird homemade Japanese sandals? This one made her heart race, this mutant turtle undeniably got her attention.
Her brother’s calls brought her back to the present and Jen swallowed readying her unsteady voice. “Cas, something happened to me. They changed me. Baxter Stockman injected me with a purple ooze.”
With the mention of the purple ooze Jen noticed the flinch in the two mutant turtles that turned their heads in the direction of her voice.
“What are you talking about Jen? I can hear you but I can’t see you? What’s going on?”
“Casey you have to promise not to freak out please. This is hard enough for me already.” She could hear her own voice trembling as she spoke.
Casey straightened his back preparing himself for whatever he was about to see and nodded.
This was her older brother, he would love her no matter what she had to remind herself. Jen took a deep breath and felt her skin scrawl for a few seconds and she stepped forward into the light. She watched her older brothers eyes widen in shock his mouth opening in a silent gasp but thankfully took a step towards her instead of back his hands outstretched for his sister.
“Oh Jen.” Casey whispered.
She could hear the two mutant turtles behind her brother breaths hitch and whisper at the same time, “What the shell?”
“Make Mine Music” (1946)
Two of the next three Disney movies are actually compilations of several animated segments. It’s kind of like “Fantasia,” but not all of them are musical, and none are nearly as well-remembered. The first of them, “Make Mine Music” was actually quite difficult to find. It’s the only fully-animated feature to not be on Disney+, so we had to get creative.
Ultimately, we ended up tracking it down. As a package, it doesn’t really work, though I did like some of the segments (almost all of which can be found on YouTube). The best way to look back on this movie is going piece by piece. So now, some quick thoughts on each:
The Great
1. "Peter and the Wolf” - This is an all-timer, if not only for music education purposes. It’s narrated by the voice of Winnie the Pooh, adding some humor to the travels of young Peter, and I love that each character has designated instrumental themes. Never has a French horn sounded more intimidating than when accompanied by a wolf on the hunt. Also: shout-out to the oboe/duck combo. It’s delightful.
The Good
2. “Casey at the Bat” - I deeply enjoy this, but I also learned to probably works better if you’re at least somewhat familiar with the source material. Ali had never heard of the original poem, so it might not be as fun to watch when you’re trying to track the story of the poem while all the extra cartoon stuff is going on. (Try this version narrated by the legendary James Earl Jones!) At points, it can be hard to distinguish between which is part of the poem and which is just a flourish. All the same, I love the story and the Disney version.
3. “The Whale Who Wanted to Song at the Met” - This is so truly bizarre in all the best ways. Somehow, the title is exactly what it is. It’s surreal, and when Disney leans all-in on weird, it can produce some damn entertaining results. Just go watch it.
4. “After You’ve Gone” - Don’t be fooled by the seemingly depressing title. It’s a breezy Benny Goodman interstitial that shows instruments dancing around in various shapes and sizes. It’s over in just a few minutes and worth your time.
The Decent
5. “Two Silhouettes” - Another short segment that has some neat old rotoscoping technology to track two ballet dancers in -- shockingly -- silhouettes. It works! Plus, Dinah Shore’s voice is lovely.
6.  “Johnny Fedora and Alice Blue Bonnet” - This is a cute little love story about two hats in the display window of a store in the city. It’s likely be a tad more engaging for little kids than adults or even older children, so it loses marks there, but it ends in a tidy happily ever after. HATS OFF! (I should log off now.)
7. “Blue Bayou” - The definition of “fine.” It’s two herons swimming through the Everglades in an abandoned “Fantasia” animation that was originally set to a different song. This leads off the American version of “Make Mine Music,” which is probably a mistake since it’s so slow. “After You’ve Gone” would’ve been snappier and more attention-grabbing.
The Bad
8. “Without You” - If I wanted to watch vague nothingness set to some bummer music, I’d just put on some Bread with the Windows Media Player visualizer. The guy’s a fine singer, but this is just a snooze.
9. “All the Cats Join In” - ‘50s romps can be fun! I love “Rock This Town” by The Stray Cats. Alas, they are better cats than the cats shown in this short (another Benny Goodman number), who are just dancing teens. I would’ve preferred actual cats. The song is not Goodman’s best, and the kids are annoying. (There’s also a bit where one guy won’t dance with a girl because her butt is too big?? Then the artist “fixes” it. Neat. Cool.) Get off my lawn, I guess.
10. “The Martins and the Coys” - The original opener for “Make Mine Music,” which was later removed from American releases. That was wise because this sucks. I’m not a huge fan of group folk music storytelling anyway, and choosing to make a cartoon based on the long feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys is a bad choice. It ends with the last two living members falling in love and getting married, only to fight endlessly in their marriage. And yes, I mean literally fighting, too. Great.
So yeah, just Google around to watch the first few of these “Make Mine Music” segments. “Peter and the Wolf” is worth a rewatch, at the very least. Long live the French horn.
Updated ranking
1. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (review) 2. “Fantasia” (review) 3. “Pinocchio” (review) 4. “Bambi” (review) 5. “Dumbo” (review) 6. “The Three Caballeros” (review) 7. “Make Mine Music” 8. “Saludos Amigos” (review)
Raphael honestly was lucky he made his way to to where Casey apartment was called it second nature, seeing how often he goes to see them there after all. Eyeing the ground, he spotted a few pebbles on the ground it was perfect! Just like the movies! He thought as he started to gather them up into his hand. Finding a way to work his legs to stand straight again, he needed a moment to stop feeling dizzy and light-headed. Eyes squeeze shut tight a moment so he could take a moment to adjust.
Eyes open slowly as he works to focus his vision, eyeing out the window of his boyfriend's apartment. He grip the first rock and gave it a good from toss missi g the glass panel buly well a fuck ton if he was honest. He scrunched up his bill and huffed then soon threw the whole pile of his pebbles to the glass in hopes one would hit. Seemed the more the merrier was the deal here as a few happened to smack against the glass. Soon a light flicked on and Raph knew Casey attention was caught. Scrambling to stand up on the nearest trash can just below the window. Waiting till the silhouette of his boyfriend came in close, Raph started to belt out the most out of tone sound humanly and mutantly feasible.
"Is this love that I'm feeling?" Seems Casey noticed it was Raphael now as the turtle kept on belting our his heart to them "is this the love that I've been searching for?~" peace to poor man's neighbors however considering Raphael sounded more like a poor dying animal. "Is this love or am I dreaming?" Raphael contuines losing control of his tempo near the end finally aware of the window being open now.
"Heeeeey~" Raphael greets, "What's a tall drink of water like you doing in a place like this?" well Casey lived there but that part could be ignored, hoping up and luckily enough, his hands gripped the window seal when he did so. Clearing his thoart as he was struggling to climb in still attempting to sing his song out to Casey. "This- this must be loooo-whoa" near about falling right out the window luckily Casey easily had a hold of him as he worked his way in through the window finally.
Raphael near about dropping right ti the floor as he let out a snort. But worked fast to shake his head as if working the giggle fit out of his system. Looking up to Casey who seems maybe worried about Raph but also maybe amused? Hard to tell when he's got his buzz going. Casey's deep voice seems to come.clkser as they ask what he was doing. Raphael moves to sit up a bit now.
"You can't tell babygirl?" Frown tugged down his beak "I'm trying to serenade you baby girl." Soon wailing out another line of the song he was cleaely butchering "Cause it's really got a hold on me~" Moving to hug one of Casey's legs as he rests his cheek in against thier leg now.
"Singing exhausting" He huffs a bit still holding on to them "but ya shoild be serenda Casey, wanna know why? Uh wanna?" He dosent want for an answer "cause your adorable!" He boldly states to his poor easipy flustered boyfriend. "An cause I love ya oh so very much baby gal with all my heart! Your my everything and I want ya to know just how special ya are to me always. Why I had ta run here and let ya know right!"
Yeah thats what happened something crossed Raphaels mind when full on hazy from alcohol in his system and desire to see his beloved Casey Jones. "Cause I'm sorry I've been a down right awful boyfriend to ya Case."
Moving to try and stand well, still holding on to Casey's leg for support, ignoring any questions that came his way from Casey after that statement was made.
"But I do I love you so much, I love those eyes of yours they remind me of walking along the shore line so all I can do when I see the beach is think of you too! When I see the air hockey tables at the arcade I Only think of you and how I wanna take you there for date we can play games together. I know it's dumb and i'm dumb and I haven't like dated and such but I just knew ya know?" Raph says looking up at Casey. "Knew this just make sense, I wanna have all the things with you Casey. Cause you may slay purple dragons every night with a baseball bat, but you slay me with that dazzling smile of yours every day."
Raph sighing out happily at Casey now thinking of their smile was enough to due him in even. "I ain't dumb I know ya could have anyone and for some reason you settled for me some stupid clown turtle. But!" moving to warp his arms around their waist. "This stupid clown of a turtle knows he basically dating Jessica rabbit so that makes me Roger and ya can't have Roger with out his Jessica and I can't have me without my Casey." Somehow that made sense slightly humming that song again luckily for everyone he wasn't about to try and sing again.
"I just want ya to know I love you so much just cause you're Casey. Your nuts and totally violent but so damn soft under it all. Get upset if I get hurt, you bake, you love your mom it's cute don't worry it's okay ya a mama's boy. Ya get all cute and flustered by me the big shock I feel. And I just wanna tell you I love it. I love every part that makes ya" Resting his head against Casey a second "I sing for ya mor ebut I think I need to puke."
