Yep! Gray Wing's roles are getting split between two characters; Bright Storm and Shaded Flower.

Shaded Flower is taking on a paternal role. He teaches Thunder Storm how to be a tom as he transitions and is very close with the Storm family. Thunder Storm considers him his father more than Clear Sky ever was; he taught him love and respect.

Saved by Gray Wing in the first book, Shaded Flower gets merc'd in the First Battle by Clear Sky.

Bright Storm has the arc of coming to terms with the idea of enabling. She tried to save Jagged Peak, alone. She loved Clear Sky, even after he rejects her and their son. She was very close with Gray Wing and was looked to as a proveyer of xeir teachings, but kept encouraging Thunder Storm to be close to his biofather out of the hope he'd bond with his dad... not realizing she was just making Thunder Storm get hurt.

She gets the asthma that Gray Wing did, saving fire victims. And after her friend Shaded Flower is killed, she jumps into battle against Clear Sky and eventually says the line.

But this time around, Clear Sky rejects it. StarClan ends this battle, with bolts of furious lightning.

If I remember correctly, the Erins once stated that the Clans had been around about 40 years before TPB. Since Into the Wild was published in 2003, that means the Clans formed in the early 60s, which means DotC probably takes place in the late 50s/early 60s.

About halfway through Suntrail rn and here’s how I would rate the traveling cats (from favorite to least favorite)

Jagged Peak - He is baby, can do no wrong, annoying in the best way, peak little brother

Gray Wing - Peak older brother, also I find him really relatable in the way he shoulders guilt like he was born to do it and feels overly responsible for everything

Moon Shadow - He’s the fucking worst and I love him for it, Berrynose kinda annoying, like I want to put tape over his mouth but I love him you know?

Tall Shadow - There’s not much for me to say about her yet but I like the change in her that happens after she ends up in charge, you can feel her desperation and frustration while fighting with Moon

Shaded Moss - I think his relationship with Rainswept was really sweet and he was a really kind and steady leader while he was around, there isn’t much to say in him but he was pretty great

Quiet Water - I think her bit about hating water is really funny and that little moment she has with Jagged after he freezes on the Thunderpath was really sweet

Dappled Pelt - Fish lesbian! She’s super sweet, there isn’t much to her but I like the way she always seems to look out for everyone and her friendship relationship with Falling is super cute

Falling Feather - Another fish lesbian! She kinda gives me golden retriever energy? Just like- idk, very sweet and generally happy, her scenes with Dappled are super sweet and I like how eager she is to be in water, admittedly when I think about her I just picture Feathertail

Turtle Tail - admittedly she hasn’t stood out very much to me until the last like two chapters I’ve read, she’s sweet and I like her eagerness but she doesn’t have much in terms of actual character yet, it’s mostly just about Gray Wing, though I find it interesting how she specified multiple times how much she’d hate a boring life

Clear Sky - I don’t have much to say about him? I mean, it feels wrong to judge his character rn when I’ve basically only seen him grieving (though I know he’s an asswipe most of the time anyway) but he yelled at Jagged so... he’s really only here because he’s got more to him then the others

Rainswept Flower - Her relationship with Shaded Moss was really sweet and her reaction to his death made me sad, I also liked that scene with Gray helping her across the gorge-thing, again not much to her yet but she’s cool

Cloud Spots - Our other healer! Again, not much to her, but she seems to know even more about herbs then Dappled even though Dappled is supposed to be their herb cat? I’m really curious how she knows all of it, did Dappled teach her?

Bright Stream - She admittedly didn’t have much character outside of Clear Sky but I still found her very sweet, the fact she died because she was helping Gray Wing is really upsetting

Shattered Ice - Not much to say on him, the only scene I remember of him is when he takes charge of crossing the thunderpath right before they reach the territories, and I mean- he does well there ig

Jackdaw’s Cry - now, listen, I don’t dislike him, but I legitimately can’t remember a single thing he’s done, so by default he’s at the bottom

I’ll redo this list once per book from now on, just to see how my opinions change over time

Shaded Moss from Dawn Of The Clans. Shaded Moss is one of the cats that was apart of the Ancient Tribe and was known to be a responsible and strong cat. He is the father to Rainswept Flower but has no other listed family which leads me to believe that he adopted her. Shaded Moss is the cat that lead the group of Early settlers to the new territory, being known to calm tensions and stop fights but unfortunately he died in The Sun Trail, run over by a car. Although he passed, he still guided the Early Settlers in the afterlife if he was needed. (info gained from the wiki/ book)

Shaded moss! I remember him and thinking he’s just a solid guy, which is so rare in DOTC lmao. I love and hate that book. I really like learning the lore but at the same time that book makes me so uncomfortably mad. Why are all the men so bad and the women so attacked by plots constantly? Why is Clear sky literally Satan but because he made SkyClan hes deemed ok? Why is Thunder so stupid.

Anyways a more simple design compared to my others and yet I really like it, it fits him! Also I’ve placed him in The tribe group because technically he wasn’t alive when they made the groups. The tribe symbol is a moon and running water!

Do you have any plans for Shaded Moss, since Gray Wing is dying in his place? (The specifics of that in my brain was Gray Wing shoving him out of the way of the carriage)

My own thoughts were something along the lines of him having been second-in-command to Gray Wing, but after xir death, Clear Sky starts undermining them, 'suggesting' to people that hey, maybe he *set that up* like, isn't it convenient? That Gray Wing died? Leaving Shaded Moss in charge? Wow, funny like that, huh? And even if most of the group dismisses it as bullshit, it's still "What kinda moron almost gets run over by a carriage and has to be pushed out of the way? Should we really be following him?" Eventually, Clear Sky takes the people who listen to him and leaves, and Tall Shadow kinda forces him to step down, and Shaded Moss kinda lives on the fringes of the group until after Bumble gets driven out. He kinda serves as a surrogate father to Thunder (because I kinda want to keep adoption a thing) and teaches him how to pass better as a tom (because I love older transmascs helping guide their juniors, I wish I had had someone older who knew a little more helping me with that shit as a kid).

I imagine he dies in the First Battle, either just before the "Tell the stars you won" line, or just after, knocking Clear Sky off of Bright Storm and getting killed for it just before Starclan intervenes.

(Note though: Shaded Moss -> Shaded Flower, because they now have a naming system that includes a familial last name. Shaded Flower and Rainswept Flower are father and daughter like canon.)

It'll be good for showing how "connected" tribe culture is, to have Thunder Storm have bonds with a lot of the cats he will eventually come into conflict with. Thunder Storm having a surrogate dad figure in the disgraced leader works nicely. Here's how I'll approach it though, taking your suggestions and making sure it works with what's established;

Gray Wing was the leader, Shaded Flower was second in command. He was a logistics sort of guy.

They had never seen a horse before. The group charged in front of it while crossing, spooking it.

Something I found interesting in Sun Trail is that Clear Sky was commanding them across the road that gets Canon!Shade killed on. I think I want to keep that, having Clear Sky be the one who shouted for them all to charge.

Shaded Flower's response to the large animal rearing up was to hiss and freeze

And of course, Gray Wing runs back to save him, getting kicked and killed.

While burying xem, Shade was catching flak. He panicked and his response was to freeze. Clear Sky never takes responsibility for his own actions, and what kind of guy freezes in front of a deer so huge??

He didn't really "step down" so much as Tall Shadow and Clear Sky just naturally started becoming the new leaders. He was pretty ashamed that he got Gray Wing killed.

Embarrassingly, Rainswept Flower ended up having to be his defender a lot of the time. He didn't want her reputation to suffer as a result of his cowardice, but... ugh here they are.

When Jagged Peak broke his leg, Shaded Flower didn't speak up, doubting his own judgement.

But when Bright Storm comes back with her three-legged newborn, he is IMMEDIATELY on Tall Shadow's side in the split. Though his reputation took a big hit, him being on her side IS still helpful.

He probably teaches Thunder Storm how to cook along with helping his transition, since this is going to be an important skill he displays later when he befriends River's Ripple. Rainswept Flower is like a young 19-year-old at this point, making her own life, and Shaded Flower has a sort of loneliness about him.

He probably looks out for Bright Storm, too, since they both had a pretty traumatic experience with Clear Sky treating them like ass. Brings her food and such, makes small talk, watches her kid when she needs a break.

Shaded Flower is, however, probably not a member of early ThunderClan. Or at the very least, he's kind of conflicted about it.

Rainswept Flower is loyal to Tall Shadow, and will remain ShadowClan for her whole life. He really doesn't want to leave her behind

(She even eventually has kittens with Sun Shadow, but that's not super relevant.)

Though... I may have him be part of Bright Storm's Reinforcements, and note how much he's torn between supporting the boy who's practically an adopted son, and his daughter back in Tall Shadow's Clan. He can love them both equally and be torn up over it.

Whatever happens, he will be dying in the place where Rainswept Flower dies in canon. His death in Clear Sky's jaws, "I'm not greedy, just strong!" enrages Bright Storm, who bumrushes him.

She delivers the Star Line, Clear Sky rejects it, and Thunder Storm rushes in to end his battle with Clear Sky once and for all before StarClan halts it.

Hi! Wanted to stop by for a chat. I wonder if you have any thoughts/headcanons about the three DOTC brothers (Clear Sky, Gray Wing, Jagged Peak)?

so as a general rule, im not huge on dotc. BUT i have a rewrite! so heres some stuff about everyone in warriors rewound, heavy inspiration taken from @bonefall :

clear sky:

a cruel, vindictive cat too selfish to see beyond his own claws. he is the main antagonist, the driving force of the plot. it is his orders that stop bright stream from going after gray wing the wise, after an eagle catches him. this is the first death he is responsible for—that of his own brother.

he opposes shaded moss as the sun trail leader, and hates tall shadow even more. his continued mistreatment of the sun trail cats causes them all to split off. bright stream sticks with him, but not for long.

when clear sky casts out jagged sky—his own brother—and mauls bumble half to death, bright stream rounds them up to go to tall shadows camp. she leaves with a warning—his selfishness would be his downfall.

his daughter, thunder stream, learns of him through other sun trail cats. she decides to join his group, just to get to learn his skills.

when tall shadow banishes bumble, arguing that turtle tails death means she has no place in the group, bumble seeks help from a few former friends in clear skys group. clear sky discovers her and attempts to maul her again, but thunder stream hauls him away. they leave to found the rainstorm guild alongside jagged sky, lightning tail, acorn swoop, sparrow tail, and pebble tail.

this is ultimately what causes the first battle. tall shadow is upset to have lost warriors, and confronts clear sky. he escalates the situation. tall shadow looks to her ally, wind, for help, while clear sky kidnaps several river duchy cats as hostages. bright stream attempts to ease tensions, but fails.

though clear sky was defeated here, he continues to get more power hungry and cause more problems. he falls to a small group of assassins, star flower at their head. she takes all of his 7 remaining lives.

gray wing:

the wise storyteller of the ancients, beloved by all but his brother. he died at the claws of an eagle clear sky refused to save him from.

his death leaves a gap in the lives of many. a true haunting of the narrative.

he appears only twice to all of the clans. once at the end of the great battle, after bright stream calls it to a halt, there to impart advice or warnings to each leader through his stories. he tells long tales to all but clear sky. all he says to his brother is that his selfishness would be his downfall.

he helps thunder stream, his beloved niece, by guiding her to what would eventually be thunderclan territory.

his final appearance is at the end of the arc, in all nine lives ceremonies but clear skys.

he is remembered both as gray wing the wise, and as silverpelt.

jagged sky (jagged peak):

a scrappy young tom with a heart of gold. he idolized his older brothers, and left with clear sky to follow the sun trail because of that admiration.

his blind faith in his brother would stop him from seeing clear skys true colors, banishing him for his newly amputated leg. he lives alone for a while, before bright stream and a very injured bumble find him. they rush to tall shadows camp to heal the two, and find solace for the pregnant bright stream.

he and bumble become very close, and he is the one to play matchmaker for turtle tail and she. upon turtle tails death due to tom, he’s enraged. moreso when tall shadow banishes bumble. he screams at everyone, before rushing out of camp to find her, several cats hot on his heels.

he comes across thunder stream just after she protects bumble, and they flee and establish the rainstorm guild. jagged sky gets several good hits in on clear sky during the first battle, leaving scars that look like those an eagles talons would leave.

he eventually confronts bright stream for not standing up for bumble. he knows shes better than that! bright stream ends up trying to make it up to bumble. shes forgiven, but nothing is forgotten

he and bumble share the position of proto-deputy

he remains deputy when bumble becomes bumblestar after thunderstars passing.

Tall Shadow didn't do anything

The narrative is pivoting so fast that it's giving me whiplash

The ONE thing that Tall Shadow has done that was any type of bad in this ENTIRE SERIES was her rejection of Bumble, a thing that EVERYONE else was complicit in including Turtle Tail and Jagged Peak, with Clear Sky Himself beating Bumble into unconsciousness and probably being responsible for her death, because the entire narrative agrees that Bumble wasn't worthy of being alive and "wouldn't be able to cope" in the wild, away from her domestic abuser (FUCK this arc!!)

But Tall Shadow was in the general area of the last big fight so DOTC has decided that she MUST also be responsible for what happened at the First Battle

I HAVE TO STRESS

SHE IS NOT EVEN A LEADER RIGHT NOW, as of the opening of The Blazing Star

She's a joint leader, because she realized that the responsibility was too much for either her or Gray Wing to handle on their own.

But no! She killed a person during the battle that Clear Sky started, when she had EVERY REASON TO BELIEVE that Fircone was going to kill Thunder, because Clear sky threw her into a hostile crowd, so that they could BEAT HER TO DEATH, ANNOUNCING "yes gray wing stay up on the rock and watch your friends die"

So that means she was FIGHTING OVER TERRITORY AND PREY???

Shaded Moss also descends from the heavens to tut-tut at her.

Nope! Just as bad as Clear Sky I guess, even though you had zero control over the situation! Don't be a woman in DOTC next time!

Jagged Peak does indeed get a happy life!

Just uh.... Ignore WCR!The Sun Trail for a minute. He ain't having a good time in there.

He becomes mates with Rainswept Flower, becomes a permanent part of Shadowclan, and has kits of his own later after learning and maturing and really getting comfortable in his own skin. The kids are Holly Bird (who will one day become a leader named Birdstar), Shade Pelt, and Dewy Nose. Eagle Feather is no longer his child, and Holly doesn't exist.

Holly Bird is named after Fluttering Bird. Shade Pelt is named after Shaded Moss. Dewy Nose is named after Dewy Leaf, who babysat both Rainswept Flower and Jagged Peak, and was a great companion.

He is 1/3 actual Main Protagonists for WCR!DOTC, alongside Thunder and Petal/Sky Petal/Skystar.

He changes and grows through his life, learning to look before he leaps, and take other's opinions on-board, sadly it comes from watching his god-awful older brothers.

He's an all-around good guy, learning to adjust to a new world and becoming more secure in himself while also processing his own emotions.
