So, I will make a longer post maybe later, but I was thinking of the possibility of a Tom Sturridge Tarot Deck... I know, wild. I am not an artist, at least not in the same way that would be needed, but I understand Tarot and could write an in-depth Tarot Guidebook for a Tom Sturridge Tarot Deck.

@shochmonster, made a Sandman Tarot Deck with their own original art with the actors in mind that played the characters in the 1st season. And with copyright and licensing and such, since it is their own art, it was legally okay to do.

So, I have a few artists I would like to ask if they'd like to join me on making a Tom Sturridge Tarot Deck with me.

This deck would embody all of Tom's work; films, shows and short films. Maybe a play or two and maybe some photoshoots he has done.

But I would love to collab with some artists out there that already do Tom Sturridge artwork, namely Dream artwork, but hey, when you know Tom's facial structure for art you could probably draw any of his characters.

I plan to go over what characters and what scenes I think go with each other cards, or at least some of the cards I can think of. But the idea is to get these artists' work out there and show them some love all the whole showing Tom Sturridge all the love and support as well.

We love him like crazy and I for one would love a tarot deck with all the prominent Tom Sturridge artists' work on the cards while I read tarot for myself and others.

Who is interested in this idea? Any artists in mind that I am forgetting in my tags? I have no idea about mass printing stuff, though I have some local friends to me that might know some stuff, but if y'all have advice or ideas, let me know. This is in it's infancy, basically fetal, so, nothing is final. It is just an idea.

major arcana braindump

So, in the show when Dream is reading the books about Gault and the Corinthian, Gault’s is significantly smaller than the Corinthian’s. This leads me to believe that she’s younger than the Corinthian, who (according to comic canon) was an established entity by at least the 1700s, which is still only a drop in the bucket in Sandman time. The two possibilities I’ve thought of are: 1) the Arcana were created gradually over time until they became a complete set (22 in most tarot card decks) or 2) Gault was created as a replacement for a Nightmare who was uncreated, banished into the darkness as Dream did to her, or possibly even killed.

I think #1 is possible because Dream is so deeply meticulous about his work, and I can easily imagine him taking a lot of care in forming these important entities of the Dreaming, not just cranking them out all at once. But my personal preference is for #2, because I think it opens up a lot of super interesting emotional possibilities for Gault. Maybe she’d deal with questions about her identity. If her predecessor was uncreated or banished, she might feel pressure not to fail the way they had and face outward and inward expectations to be better. If her predecessor was killed, she might struggle with feelings of trying to fill their shoes, and with finding her place in the Dreaming’s society as the other members grieve the one who came before her. I just think it’s a fascinating concept to mull over!

(A friend once gave me the Vertigo tarot, meaning the comics that printed The Sandman. Of course Death was Death. I lost the cards when we moved in 2020. Damn shame.)

Elden Ring: The Wheel of Fortune

"Great iron wheel lined with flesh-flaying blades. Device of torture used by Inquisitor Ghiza. As the wheel spins it causes severe pain and blood loss." ~ from the description of Ghiza's Wheel

The Wheel of Fortune is depicted on the 10th major Arcana of tarot. It is a symbol of the capricious nature of fate and associated with the goddess Fortuna, otherwise known by the Greek name Tiche.

On the Rider-Waite-Smith and Hermetic tarot decks, the Wheel of Fortune is representative of alchemy. The 8-spoked wheel has on 4 of its spokes the alchemical symbols for mercury, sulfur, water, and saltpeter.

I am very much of the opinion that Elden Ring is a game about alchemy. Not a game that happens to have alchemy in it - I mean that the history of the Lands Between is a record of an effort to achieve creation through alchemy.

Once upon a time the Nox of the Eternal Cities were experimenting with the creation of artificial life. The homunculus is an artificial life form that is one of the outcomes of alchemy. Later on, Godfrey and Marika wished to establish the Golden Age of the Erdtree and rid the Lands Between of Destined Death. The production of gold and achieving immortality are the two classic desired outcomes of alchemy from antiquity. Radagon and Marika seem to have achieved some semblance of the rebis - the alchemical marriage of red king and white queen. This is a concept that pop culture seems to take literally, but is more closely related to spirituality and psychological alchemy than the refinement of literal physical elements.

In Elden Ring, three times the alchemical process has been completed, three revolutions of the wheel and every time the fortunes of the Lands Between take a turn for the worse. Radagon and Marika have an unstable existence that led to Shattering themself and the Lands Between. Marika set the Golden Erdtree as an eternal symbol, but also seems to have trapped the people of the Lands Between in a cursed existence of immortal life, but not immortal health or youth. In my opinion, the Dragonkin Soldiers and mimic tears show that the Nox were responsible for creating the Giants as a form of artificial life form that terrorized the Land for a time before being defeated by Godfrey.

Anyways, the place I was going with this is that I find it very interesting that the origins of the popular Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck and the Hermetic tarot deck both have close ties to a group of occultists called the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. And here again we find an Elden Lord: Godfrey Dowson is the name of the man who illustrated the Hermetic Tarot deck. Sometimes, the answers are all there in the manual, once you start looking in the right places.

The tarot major arcana function as a prototypical Hero's Journey - from "The Fool" [#0] to attaining enlightenment and "The World" [#21]. The Golden Order had at the heart of it the prophesy of a new Golden Dawn at the end of the proscribed journey. All they had to do was keep faith in the process and keep spinning the Wheel. But if you pay attention there's something sinister about the way that wheels are used in Elden Ring. Devices of flesh rending torture and as a symbol of enslavement. A promised reward can easily become a curse. To quote from the Sandman: "The price of getting what you want is getting what you once wanted". The World is not truely the end of the tarot anyways, it just re-sets to [#0/22], once again "The Fool".

Since then, the cart wheel draped on his neck has served as a reminder. That true guidance awaits those with iron wills. Those with unwavering faith." ~ from the description of Corhyn's Robes, recalling that there is no outcome to Corhyn's quest that results in him being rewarded for keeping his faith

hi yes hello it's me again. so I'm working on my dream of the endless™~ playlist.. and I was looking through this BROODS album that I liked a lot and... just. just look at this.

uugghh Dream just being so overwhelmed after everything and going to Hob.. and Hob's just. Over the moon that Dream feels safe enough with him for comfort.. the bridge is especially destroying me cause like - of course Dream would beat himself up abt needing comfort in the first place and he can't stop thinking abt all that needs to be done and- AAHHH Hob just gently pulling him out of all that, if just for a moment...

My #1 post of 2022

It appears the last two (2)….times I’ve tried creating this post, tumblr thought I was too wordy, so I’m going to attempt to get in and get out before it eats itself again

this playlist (a Dream of the Endless™ character examination via my silly brain and sad ass music) took me entirely too long and I'm going to throw my laptop out of the window if I have to look at it any longer so pls pls take it and I hope that if you listen or even read the lyrics that you find something new, or hear something you like.

During and after watching the Netflix adaptation of the sandman, I avoided the internet discourse. I grew up reading @neil-gaiman 's wonderful comic book, and I really have no need to see low intellect racists crying because a few actors didn't match the melanin levels of the comic art. As far as adaptations go, it's one of the best I've seen, and Gwendoline Christie as lucifer, one of my favorite characters from anything, Odin fucking All-Father! Can we get an entire show based on Mike Carey's amazing Lucifer book starring her? That would be my favorite thing ever.

As an artist and writer myself, the Sandman is intrinsic and eternal. Who cares what ridiculous internet discourse says about it. This is also the best adaptation of anything Gaiman has done. The last one I saw was American gods, and I couldn't make it past a few episodes, it was so dreadful. Looking forward to more of this show. As a side note, The Vertigo Tarot divination listing in my Etsy shop, Mimir's Lair, which features Morpheus, Death, Constantine, Swamp Thing, and other vertigo characters is my best selling listing. It's a rare and unique deck, and I'm so happy that I have the opportunity to read with it.
