Studying linguistics is actually so wonderful because when you explain youth slang to older professors, instead of complaining about how "your generation can't speak right/ you're butchering the language" they light up and go “really? That’s so wonderful! What an innovative construction! Isn't language wonderful?"

I really don’t understand some people who tell you to “chill out” or “relax” when you’re expressing enthusiasm or happiness about something. Like yeah, sure, maybe my excitement seems misplaced to you, but maybe I’m just a happy person. I know we’ve all discussed Lucy Gray as a foil for katniss, peeta, snow, ect BUT I think she’s all of them??? Lucy Gray is the blueprint for modern hunger games, and so she has elements of all the victors who came after her

Her theatricality and beauty captured the capitol from the moment she was reaped with nothing but a snake, a song, and a rainbow dress, the same way katniss captured them volunteering for prim. But even more so, she could use her songs the same way peeta used words. She knew how to use her talent in her favor, and ultimately won the hunger games because of it.

She may not have been a career, but she was still offered up as a (forced) sacrifice to protect the other girls of the district. She showed the capitol that the children in the districts were almost human, setting the stage for the luxurious quarters and food tributes came to expect. She’s the whole REASON mags’ 11th games had a victory tour! Parading her around like a spectacle to be dehumanized, instead of a traumatized teenage girl forced to fight for her life and forgotten back in the districts.

Hell, her and tigris’ implied prostitution is likely the origin of snow selling desirable tributes like finnick and cashmere

tldr: Lucy gray is a bad bitch who can’t be compared to just one character from the original series, because she’s an amalgamation of many different victors who came after her, and was largely the inspiration for all future hunger games

Hey everyone! this is where the zebra is currently with the design.

It has knee braces!! I will most probably be drawing the zebra usually with them on, but it’s no requirement, for example if anyone else wants to draw the zebra :-]. I always like to make sure an animal design has official colors underneath any clothing and accessory anyway. I think this will be final! thank you everyone for your feedback!

As a reminder, aside from why the zebra was requested for this flag, this is also just a zebra with the disability pride flag on it. It’s just a deisgn to fit the flag, with input from other disabled people in our community. It doesn’t mean other animals can’t have designs with these colors, too! I don’t mean this design to be the only mascot for all disabled people. It’s just a silly series i do of pride animals, and at the time, during disability pride month, I wanted to see what everyone wanted me to start off with for this flag!

you know, there are a lot of posts about how transitioning as an adult is like going through puberty all over again. and I’m not medically transitioning (at least not yet, maybe one day), so I don’t know if I ever expected to exactly experience that. after all, my hormones are at normal adult levels for someone on birth control. but no, some of the stuff I experience does make me feel like a teenager awkwardly becoming an adult again, actually.

see, I’m attending a friend’s wedding, and I need new formalwear for it (protip: it is generally frowned upon to wear a wedding dress to someone else’s wedding, and that’s the last formalwear I purchased). and I just… really didn’t want to wear a dress, so I went to go get a suit. and I didn’t know how to get any of the required clothes for it and had to have a salesperson help me figure out how dress shirts work and nervously stood there while getting shown how to try stuff on and it really did feel like I was a lost teenager, despite being, you know, almost twenty-six.

but also: I own a three-piece suit now! it’s grey! it looks pretty good on me! I even got a blue tie with bees on it! so it was worth the temporary embarrassment of suddenly realizing I don’t know how men’s formalwear sizes work and, oh god, why are there so many variations of “white dress shirt” what does this mean.

and I figure as I very slowly work up the confidence to be out more irl there will be more and more moments like this, and I’ll lament the fact I didn’t do all this stuff as an actual teenager, but as weird and scary as it is, so far, it’s been worth it.

#also shoutout to the salesperson both at the suit store and the department store #they were VERY nice and reassuring and the woman at the department store wished me luck which was very sweet #I was. very obviously nervous social anxiety is a bitch #I kept being like ‘I’m so sorry I don’t know how this works’ but I never had anyone teach me so I must give myself grace #anyway more personal than I normally am on this blog but I’m excited and also figure someone out there probably relates #just. late milestones. thing I keep experiencing both because autism and because not cis #suddenly realizing ‘oh most people figure this one out as a teenager’ #milestones are bullshit anyway #anyway some stuff needs to come in and then be hemmed so no pictures yet but #suit……
