BLOGGIES 2023 BEST BLOG POST OF THE YEAR

On 31 January 2024, the tabletop-roleplaying-game community voted for the Best Blog Post Of 2023.

As an (award-winning) blogger who only started 6 months ago - I want to use this "acceptance speech" to share the 5 steps that will start your blog: 1. You don't need a cool blog name. screenname(dot)blogspot(dot)com is probably available - you can move it later if you think of a cool name. The trick here is to set it up so your ideas can go live as soon as you're happy (or tired of editing). 2. Post something. Dust off your notebook (or note-taking app) and turn those musings into a structured post with paragraphs and context. Don't have anything ready to go? Take your latest game session and write a play report or spotlight a specific moment. This will take less time than your ttrpg prep. 3. Share it! With your gaming group, ttrpg friends, community discords, xwitter/bluesky, reddit, forums etc. 4. Don't worry about the rest. I don't have a fancy blog template. I've yet to compile a sidebar or blogroll. I don't have a newsletter or patreon. 5. Continue. Your readers will contribute with comments. You will be shared in community newsletters. On a personal note: I am really thrilled at this final result.

The BLOGGIES can come off as clique-ish. Voting is public, but "public" on the Internet generally means a circle-jerk between subculture friends, a popularity contest.

This thing began as a jokey riff on those best-tweet-of-the-year polls over on Twitter. While Prismatic Wastelands grew it into a celebration of OSR blogging culture, it still has NSR / POSR inclinations---the specific community soil it sprung from.

As host this year I tried to extend the BLOGGIES' reach. Canvassing for nominations outside the OSR space got a couple of indie-RPG designers on the finalists list. Am proud of that; we have much to learn from each other.

I made prizes---hoping that, one day, with enough dangling carrots, these awards will eventually be tasty enough for non-POSR cliques / communities to attempt a takeover? We'll see.

Ultimately: I am glad to water this sapling and watch it grow slowly. Community is made by growing trees, not building greenhouses.

After waking up to a reblog of my Christmas/NY greeting post from the awesome @jaimebrienne-art, I realised I very rudely neglected to wish the ever amazing Jaime and Brienne fandom compliments of the season too! 🤦

To followers of this blog and the extended fans who see the art and enjoy it, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all! I'm forever grateful for your passion, enthusiasm and creativity, and these commissions wouldn't even exist were it not for the inspiration the incredible creatives in the fandom (and those who passionately promote it) have given me. I'm sure the artists appreciate the support too.

I don't tag the art I post myself as I've never wanted to be too active a participant in promoting the work too widely as this is a mainly private project of mine, but I've always loved @jaimebrienne-art and have followed the blog for years, and as I know the art will be seen by only the gooden's when reblogged on there, that route of promotion suits me just fine. ❤️ So a special shout out to this amazing blog who I would say is mainly responsible for getting these pieces seen by the JxB fandom. ✨😆

Seeing the fans I recognise and have shadow watched for years enjoy the art is so cool, too. You're all fab. 👏

monthly wrap-up :: june 2023

Welcome to the June 2023 wrap up! I didn't expect that I would be reading so much for other characters but putting this list together made me realize I may have been whoring on the side for some other characters (potentially actors too because I can't lie those pics of Seb at the Loewe event did things to me full stop--).

The year's halfway through and I honestly can't believe how this year feels like it's flying by but also not moving fast enough because honestly I swear on my life I was just working on the 14 Days project a few weeks ago but also apparently it over four months ago?? Nothing makes sense 🥴

and if you haven't written anything abt it, could you share your thoughts abt the spica ai chapter? i liked ai and saitou in it but i was shocked at how intense the b-komachi bullying was :0 poor ai 😢

THANK YOU ANON…….. god can you imagine what this manga would be like if i had been given that kind of creative control. you're going to read my 15 volume hoshino ai backstory flashback and you're going to love every single chapter of it!!!

When it comes to Spica, I have pretty mixed feelings on that first chapter. For transparency's sake, I broadly dislike the novel overall and I think it takes away from the relationships it depicts more than it adds. Like I mentioned in a previous ask, my issue with Spica (and its depiction of OnK's world and characters) is its tendency to flatten and simplify many of the interesting interpersonal wrinkles that characterize these central dynamics in the main story. This is much more evident in the GRSR chapters (as outlined in that post) but you can absolutely see it in Ai's chapter as well.

POST-WRITING CLAIRE EDIT: So while this post initially started as me broadly skimming some of the issues I had with chapter 1, it has ballooned into a much, MUCH longer essay about what it is about Spica that I disliked and why, broadly, I think it fails to work both as a standalone piece and as an addition to OnK as a canon. I'm pretty negative about the book in this post and very critical of the writing so if you really liked Spica and it would bum you out to see me take it apart, feel free to skip this post.

On the surface, Ai and Saitou's dynamic is pretty true to the main story and I will admit that I do enjoy their rapport in this chapter and just that we got a chapter focusing on this relationship full stop. Ai and Saitou's relationship is one I've always been particularly soft for and getting a whole chapter that was basically just exploring its early days was really nice. But it's also a very rose tinted view of that relationship in a way I think does it a bit of a disservice. I discussed this in my OnK anime rewatch but Spica's take on Saitou (and thus on his relationship with Ai) frames him as a wholly positive and supportive figure whose desires for money and success in the entertainment industry are explicitly, textually said to be secondary and unimportant to his uncomplicated kind desire to support them as they succeed. There's almost this sense of "wow, isn't it so noble and cool that saitou is kindly allowing these tweenage girls to work themselves ragged making money for his company!!!" that's a bit icky to read.

This is in line with the bizarre ways Spica portrays idol culture, in particular the 'oshi'/fan dynamic. This is another thing I've discussed before, so I'll borrow my previous words on the topic:

The Japanese text of [chapter 137] takes this dehumanization a step further: Rather than the wasei-eigo term アイドル (aidoru), when calling [Ai] an idol, Gotanda uses the word 偶像 (guzou) - an idol by its original definition. It goes beyond just reducing her to an animal - it’s objectification in the very literal sense. Ai is an idol, a ceremonial object of worship, an inanimate vessel for the dirty desires of the people around her. [...] Spica [...] depicts the moment that Ai starts down this road, committing herself to being an idol who will love and support everyone, even people who hate and scorn her. This is framed by the novel as being something of a breakthrough for her and being liberating for it but I came out of it feeling deeply unsettled in a way I don’t think the novel wanted me to be. [...] Spica depicts the moment that Ai goes from アイドル to 偶像 without seeming to realise that’s what it’s doing and thus does so in a way that is not just uncritical but wholly celebratory. In a lot of ways, this makes sense - Spica, broadly speaking, is about the “oshi” part of Oshi no Ko: the emotional fulfillment of not just receiving support but in the act of giving support yourself, in cheering someone on and seeing them succeed. Spica depicts these sorts of relationships in a straightforwardly and uncritically positive light, even in cases of parasocial relationships between fans and celebrities.

There was a lot on that topic that I left out just because that chapter review was already getting so fucking long and unhinged but Spica's entirely uncritical and celebratory view of idol culture in general always leaves me feeling deeply uncomfortable every time I engage with the text. There's a degree to which this can be excused, because Spica takes place in the POV of characters who have drunk the industry kool-aid and thus would not necessarily interpret some of this stuff with the same critical lens as a reader. A charitable interpretation of the material is that, like Viewpoint B and 45510, the story is choosing to refrain from commenting on these troubling elements for the purposes of allowing the reader to have their own take on it.

This would be nice… except it's just not how Spica handles emotional beats at all!

When talking about Spica in the past I have jokingly referred to it as being written like 'the emotional equivalent of the Superdictionary' and by that I mean that it has absolutely no restraint or subtlety when it wants you to Feel Something. When Spica has an emotional beat, it hammers it in until any organically resulting resonance with the material has been reduced to a fine paste. When it has Thoughts and Opinions about a topic, it will explain them to the reader in excruciating detail so there is no risk of the reader taking away anything that wasn't intended by the author.

My point is that there is every indication that Spica's straightforwardly celebratory portrayal of idol culture and the way fans respond to idols is something intended to be taken at face value with no further interrogation. Spica is, by and large, entirely uninterested in acknowledging the ugly underbelly of exploitation, dehumanization and misogyny that drives idol culture and idol fandom.

I think the best way to illustrate this is to look at the scene near the end of the chapter where Ai finally sits and reads her fan letters. The first two are genuinely warm and sweet but the third always jumps out at me in a way I don't think was intended by the author;

“Hello, Ai-chan. I'm a devoted listener to your streams. B-Komachi's songs and talk shows have honestly become my sanctuary. I'm currently stuck working to the bone at a terrible company. They hardly pay me anything, and every day I just want to die. But what keeps me going is knowing I have your streams to look forward to every week. I’m not even kidding. Ai-chan, you're my reason to live!"

The story does not for a second pause to linger on this letter but I want you to stop and really take it in. While we know nothing about this letter's author outside of what's written here, but given that they have a job they can be presumed to be an adult. In addition, the final line of the letter in Japanese is 『アイちゃんは俺の生きる希望！』, using the masculine first person pronoun 俺 (ore), implicitly gendering the writer as a man.

An adult man writes to Ai to traumadump on her uninvited about his suicidal ideation and telling her in no uncertain terms that she is the sole, singular reason he is alive. Ai is a twelve year old girl.

Spica frames this as an entirely good, wholesome and affirming moment for her. It's one of many similar moments where Spica's celebration of idol culture clashes so strongly with the main story's that trying to make them tonally cohere is almost impossible. In fact, mild tangent, but I was working with the Spica TL team on chapter 1 right around the time chapter 137 dropped, and reading the ending of this chapter back to back with 137's tearing down of Ai's exploitation at the hands of the idol industry was some real injury-worse-than-whiplash inducing shit.

To be clear, I don't need Oshi no Ko to have a huge UM ACKSHULLY THIS IS WHY THIS IS BAD!!!! digression every time characters have positive interactions with the concept of idols. It is fundamentally dishonest and lacking in nuance to portray idolhood as something entirely and unrelentingly negative or to act like idols hate every single second they spend as idols. Sarina and Gorou's POV chapters do a very good job of highlighting what I talked about earlier - Spica's ruminations on the 'oshi' part of Oshi no Ko and how a relationship of support can be emotionally fulfilling both for the person being supported and the person unreservedly providing it. But that's purely from a fan perspective and I think it would be really interesting to Spica to take the opportunity afforded to it by being in Ai's POV to properly interrogate what Ai enjoys about being an idol.

But the way it chooses to do so just feels atonal both with Ai's arc and relationship to idolhood as portrayed in the main story and ways the manga has talked about 'oshi' culture in chapters published before and after Spica's release. It clashes with Oshi no Ko in ways I find difficult to satisfyingly reconcile.

This sense of clashing with and contradicting Oshi no Ko is an issue Spica has more broadly, in big and small ways. Some of this is just small, incidental details but other issues are larger and added all together, it results in a sense that Spica was not written by a person fully keyed into Oshi no Ko's world and characters. Like, just off the top of my head, here's some things that stuck out to me just from chapter 1:

Ai notes that she was separated from her mother a long time prior to the story's timeframe but given the ages give for her in 131 and here in Spica, it cannot be more than three years max since she was removed from Ayumi's care.

B-Komachi's formation and Ai's joining the group are both said to have happened 'three months ago' as of chapter 1's timeframe and thus to have happened more or less at the same time. This contradicts the Akasaka written material that consistently frames Ai as being one of the senior members, yes, but as having joined the group after Nino, Takamine and Watanabe.

The portrayal of Ai's bullying by the other B-Komachi members in no way matches Nino's account of it in 45510. This isn't even in a way you can put to Nino being an unreliable narrator. The details are so different that the only way to reconcile them is to assume these are two separate instances of bullying and that Nino just. Didn't mention the first time it happened for no reason.

On the subject of the bullies, the two girls targeting Ai are implied by their physical descriptions to be Takamine and Mei. While we don't really know anything about Mei yet, the vicious and unapologetic hostility Takamine displays clashes with her 'tough love' roughness that we are shown in the main story. In addition, this contradicts 45510's very explicit statement that Ai's bully was IMMEDIATELY fired from B-Komachi, no questions asked, the instant Saitou knew who she was. There is no indication in Spica that Ai's bullies so much as get a slap on the wrist for their behaviour.

Spica attributes B-Komachi's current success almost entirely to Ai and portrays her as working very hard on set and communicating with every other member of staff almost excessively to the point of annoyance. Not only does this contradict the early manga's portrayal of Ai as being antisocial and uncommunicative on set prior to her being sent to Lala Lie, it also contradicts chapters that were released following Spica that explicitly credit Nino as the key figure for B-Komachi's initial boom of success and states that Ai joined the group after Nino had cemented their popularity.

There are absolutely ways that you can handwave these contradictions and sew up the internal logic but to me, the nature of these contradictions matter to me less than the fact that they exist in the first place. This implies, especially given that some of these are in material written by Akasaka after Spica was published that he and Tanaka were, to some degree, not on the same page about the book's material.

There's some other things scattered about that aren't necessarily direct textual contradictions but nevertheless feel really out of step with OnK's takes on these characters. And like… I have tried to be relatively measured and good faith in my critiques so far but there is a part of chapter one that makes me so just bees buzzing around in my brain flames on the side of my face blood boiling in my veins insane that you must allow me to just uncharitably tear into it.

[Ai:] “Ah, now I get it. Are you buying a gift for your girlfriend, President? You like them young, after all…“ Finally, it clicked. The president, being considerably older than his girlfriend, needed the insights of a girl closer to her age in order to pick out the perfect gift. If that was the case, that explained why Ai had been roped into this. [Ai:] “Well, not that I should be getting into your business or anything, but…President, be careful when you mess with underage girls, okay? Nowadays, you’ll seriously end up in jail.”

I'M SORRY. WHAT THE FUCK AM I READING RIGHT NOW. SHE WOULD NOT FUCKING SAY THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This moment actually makes me so angry that it is difficult for me to clearly and calmly articulate what I find objectionable about it. I understand that it sounds very dramatic, but this is the first in a very consistent line of Spica bringing up the idea of adult men engaging in romance and/or sex with underage girls with this blithe, jokey and dismissive tone that entirely undermines everything Oshi no Ko itself says about CSA. The fact that it starts off this trend by putting these words in the mouth of Ai, WHO IS HERSELF A FUCKING CSA VICTIM, and treats the entire exchange as a throwaway joke honestly makes me feel a little bit sick.

This is part of a much broader and more troubling trend in Spica of Hajime Tanaka simply not being able to write young women in a naturalistic and human way. It's difficult for me to express exactly what it is that feels so off other than to say that it's Covered In The Fucking Ooze in a way typical of Men Who Can't Write Women. Ai's bullies in chapter 1 are so cartoonishly and stereotypically catty and mean that they barely feel human and they are written with all the distinct individuality as Thing 1 and Thing 2. The more complicated, two-sided conflict between two flawed people as seen in Ai and Nino's relationship is totally absent here. It's just the most vapid, stereotypical depiction of Teenage Girl Bullying you can imagine.

On top of that, there is a consistency with which Tanaka puts the topic of sex into the mouths and minds of these young women that fees… icky and offputting to me in a way I find difficult to articulate. In general, the voices of these young girls feel off and inauthentic in a way the main series never struggles with. For all I've criticized Oshi no Ko for in the past, something I think Akasaka is consistently and surprisingly good at is writing female characters who feel just as distinctly well realized and fleshed out as his male characters and that he does so in a way that does not rely on completely degendering them - their experiences as women are important to and inform that their characterization but does not entirely rule it. Despite overwhelmingly centering girls as the heart of its narrative, Spica barely feels capable of writing them as people.

All this together gives Spica this really strong sense - to me - of not really fitting in with the spirit of Oshi no Ko as a story. It's not just that the narrative voice is different but that there is an underlying flavour to Spica's takes on this world and its characters that clashes with the original. The cast as a whole just feels off, not blatantly OOC in a way you can directly point to but just enough to feel uncanny and give me a THEY WOULD NOT FUCKING SAY THAT!!!!! moment for almost every single person with a speaking line. It feels, as I put it on the Oshi no Brainrot server, like a thing that exists not because there was a part of the OnK narrative that worked best as a light novel but because somebody, somewhere thought a Oshi no Ko light novel would make some money and decided to have one churned out.

oh my god anon I'm so sorry lmfao you did not ask for this GIGANTIC ODYSSEY OF A POST!! This was just one of those asks that tapped into a topic I had already been having extensive conversations with myself about in my brain (I have a very boring job with a lot of time spent alone lol) and the more I typed, the more of those thoughts spilled out. I think a big part of why I am so compelled (derogatory) by Spica's missteps and mishandling of its material is that there is so much potential here and so many points where the material really comes close to just being flat out good.

A moment in chapter 1 that I think about a lot is Ai thinking about why she hasn't been reading any of her fan letters - because the last letter she got was her mom's lawyer telling her that Ayumi had gone missing after her release from custody, thus confirming for Ai that she had been abandoned to the system by her. Because of her association between those emotions and the act of reading a letter, she simply can't bring herself to open any of her fan letters because of the lingering anxiety.

Not only is this an entirely human and believable traumabrained anxiety kid fear for her to have but it's totally in line with Ai's flaw of avoidance and unwillingness to engage with or confront things that make her anxious or uncomfortable. It's also paid off wonderfully and in spades when she does finally confront that fear and is rewarded for it by an avalanche of love and support from her fans. It's one of the few moments in Ai's chapter where I think Spica really does well in conveying what a person like Ai gets out of being the 'oshi' in the oshi/fan relationship.

But this otherwise great moment is ruined by like… all that shit I said up there lmao. Spica is just laced through with this issue where moments that come so, so close to working and being really good are just marred by other issues in the text around it or trip themselves up in other ways. It's frustrating both because it comes so close to doing fresh and interesting things with the characters and because… I didn't want to dislike Spica! I was so, SO excited for it to come out and so willing to give it the BOTD even as summaries leaked and I was put off by the plot beats. But the more time I give to it in my brain and the more I try to engage with it in good faith, the more I come away frustrated and feeling like my time has been wasted.

So these are like the communications between them between episodes. About that episode’s events but in their perspectives and how it affects them. Great idea!

I always wondered just how long that period of estrangement was between them when Nicole got exposed for opening Waverly’s DNA test and not telling her that she had it all along. Like between the spa date with Rosita and that whole thing with Tucker and his “siblings”, how long did they go with not speaking to each other? Or rather Waverly not responding to Nicole’s attempts to talk. Very interesting how they used the calendar to show this.

I love how easily Dom and Kat slip into their characters even when they’re not professionally being filmed. It was obviously a thing they thought of to do for fans.

A very creative idea to show what happens between them behind the scenes of the show. Love it! 👍👏❤️

Also did it even come up in the show that Wyatt Earp founded Black Badge with President Roosevelt or did they just make that up for these case files? Because if so, that’s fucking genius! Because Black Badge is supposed to be “government operated”, right? So of course, the leader of law enforcement of Purgatory at that time would have something to do with BBD. And so would the President if it was really that prestigious. And they’re supposed to be slowly unravelling that Wyatt really wasn’t the hero everyone thought he was. So adding this into the plot continuity is very clever!

It’s like I said before. Sometimes the writing for the plot is so fucking spot on that it’s barely missing anything. And then other times it’s such a fucking mess that there’s plot holes all over the place. And these two are like… “We’ll fix this shit ourselves.”

Plot continuity. Narrative continuity. Massive deal.

I saw the light….I can’t believe I was a Larrie for so long. I was a Larrie 2013-2022. To think they were dating these past few years is insane. Harry would cringe if he went to a Louis show. Louis’ music is trash; Walls wasn’t too shabby but FITF is a complete rip off of 2000s indie rock bands. No originality or artistry. And his voice sounds like shit, always has. I remember when i was younger I did like him but I could never get into his voice…it always made me cringe but I forced myself to like it. And nothing has changed. His voice is still bad. I will never understand how he has rabid fans that worship him. (Oh wait, most of them are delulu larries)

You’d think after all these years Louis could change but unfortunately he is surrounded by yes-men. No one is condemning him for drinking and smoking every single day of his life. So he’s gonna keep fucking himself up. Doesn’t know his own lyrics, always drunk, sticks middle finger to fans and curses like a pirate. He’s been a mess for a while now and no one is stopping him.

Hate to say this but with his family history and how unhealthy he is…he’ll be lucky to make it to 40. His fans encourage him too. They’re like “Oh he’s an adult, he drinks normally…” Babe it’s not normal to down 10 shots of vodka and multiple pints of beer everyday. It’s alcoholism, it leads to liver failure, and it kills 3 million people worldwide every year. He desperately needs rehab and therapy as well.

His sisters are more mature than him about their mother/sister’s passings - they grieved, post about their birthdays, and make sure to keep them in their memory. Louis on the other hand? Completely numbed himself out and has been doing so for the past 7 fucking years.

He’s such an asshole about being a chav. Always talking about eating junk food and thinking he’s too cool to eat sushi, drink wine, eat vegetables, etc. Shut the fuck up. You’re not a teenager, it’s not cool to act like immature about eating healthy. No one else can get away with what he does…getting off to young female fans ripping off his shirt, groping him, even sucking their fingers 🤢 He’s sick.

Glad that Harry is where he is right now, successful, intelligent, ambitious, creative, and the current biggest male pop star. Good for him. Niall, Liam, Louis are complete flops. At least Zayn has #1 hits. The rest will forever be known as the forgotten 1D members.

I will never understand why people call Harry overrated. He is an extremely hardworking man, and more of an interesting unique person than any of the other members. He is charismatic on stage and always makes the crowd laughs, he’s an energetic performer. And I will never understand how Louis has stans. Even when I was a Larrie, I didn’t like his behavior or appearance. Everyone knows he’s ugly but beats around the bush. He is a disgusting typical macho man who goes to EDM clubs every night and has no hobbies besides acting like a child. He’s so rude. He’s just talentless and ugly. Hate him 🖕

I cant believe I thought him and Harry were dating…Louis isn’t even able to have a conversation that isn’t about alcohol, nor is he able to go more than a few hours without cigarettes which Harry hates.

Congratulations, the fact that you don't want to be their obsession means you're normal. That is the appropriate reaction TM.

There's very few of them you can safely be friends with because, as I think I've stated before, most of the staff and clientele of TCE has issues with humans. It's not always a matter of hating humanity, it's usually just a blatant disregard for human rights, a superiority complex, discrimination for lack of a better word. Would most of them confide in you? Probably not, because they don't see humans as equal beings for the vast majority of time.

That's why basically every human they meet falls into one of two categories- Obsession or target. The Clergy only exacerbates this black and white view. That being said, there are some monsters who you can semi-safely attempt to befriend. Santi, Fank-e, Nebul and Ludwig.

Santi has had a lot of contact with humans, and he normally sees them as equals, so while the incubus will definitely persistently try to fuck you for a while, Santi will eventually cut his losses and become a pleasant friend- Even going as far as to apologize for consistently trying to seduce you at some point.

Fank-e loves humans. Unfortunately, even if his feelings towards humanity are vastly positive, much like Breg, he doesn't treat you equally at all. The robot will point out shortcomings and coddle or jab you about them, just as he does with basically all other "squishies" (organics). He can be a very entertaining friend, but he'll always think of himself as a better lifeform. Not that he brags about it, he just accepts it.

Nebul, like I said recently, can be a a good friend outside of work. And while he's great at pretending he sees you as an equal, that's far from the case. To him, humans are slightly glorified pets. Many of them needing strict discipline to become worthy of love. But you'll never know that, and what you don't know can't hurt you, right?

Ludwig, surprisingly enough, is the one that's more normal about making friendships with humans. The fact that he at one point harbored a genuinely innocent crush on Admin is enough of a tell that the demon doesn't think of humans as better or worse than himself. Though now he tends to stray from your kind, since he doesn't like to think about the establishment he helped create... Obie is similar to him, but he has eaten humans on occasion- So there's that.

it's not like every queer person gets letter at age of 14 explaining that yeah they are queer. people can discover some things about themselves much later, or things can change or whatever. i literally know a person who wrote their first fic identifying as a cis person and now they can point out stuff they put there and say 'yeah well i was struggling with my gender identity here'. so let them discover themselves

• How do I feel about this character?

Justine - I adore her sm. I'm really sad she didn't get enough screentime before the show got cancelled since they introduced her late. It would've been fun to see more character development and stuff for her. She seems like a cool character and she's very pretty.

Ghoulia - I absolutely love her. I'm not a big fan of the reboot and I don't really like the way they took the mute aspect away from her in the live action movie (at least that's what my friends told me cuz I don't wanna watch it 🤷‍♀️) but her g1 version is SO CUTE. she's kinda underrated and she is my favorite character of the MAIN group followed with Cleo. I also kind of relate to her and I love her style.

• All the people I romantically ship them with:

Justine - I think just Ramona. I mean they're roommates and by the time justine's episode was over I think they became sort of like friends or at the very least frenemies. I like how Ramona watches over her at night; not in a creepy way but more of like protecting her in case she hurts herself which is really cute. I could see this working out.

Ghoulia - Slow Mo & Cleo. For Slow Mo I think the little interactions they have with each other and the way she has a crush on him is so cute. I also like that she likes him just for him, which is shown in that one webisode (I forgot the name u can look it up tho) when he turns smarter and she doesn't like that. For Cleo I think this ship could be just a little controversial but I can see Cleo looking out for ghoulia the more time they spend together. Ik Ghoulia gets annoyed at her a lot but they seem to know each other a lot and they've been friends for a long time.

• Non romantic OTP?

Justine - uh idk since she was barely introduced but I think it could be melody. They're both friends as it states in justine's bio thingy and in the show they have like a little interaction but that's the most I get from them.

Ghoulia - Cleo. Ik I said I ship them but I'm more of a cleuce shipper anyway and I think their friendship is literally so cute. Ghoulia is always by cleo's side and we can tell cleo cares a lot abt her even if she doesn't show it.

• Unpopular opinion?

Justine - I feel like her personality would get more gentle and sensitive throughout the show for some reason. Like I know she's a confident, creative and hardworking girl but idk I feel like she would loose confidence or something 🤷‍♀️

Ghoulia - I feel like she's secretly part of a big organization and she's a detective like Sherlock Holmes. I think this came from that one episode where she turned into a super hero but if she were a detective she would be super badass (but she's already cool so 🤩).

• One thing I wish would/have happened canonically?

Justine - more 👏 screen 👏 time👏 UGHH why did they have to cancel the showwww 😡 she had sm potential for her personality to grow and be a more popular character. I guess we will never know much about her 😢

Ghoulia - Ik this is gonna be confusing but I wish we got an episode where we could understand her. Like it sounds like shes speaking English but she's talking her zombie language.

listen just follow your heart and write what you want because there comes a point where if you try to write for what other people will see (that you don’t only write female characters or that you could take the other side of a mxf pair) people will seek you out expecting you to do it all the time - i have no preference but feel like i’ve been stuck writing primarily male characters these days because my partners don’t give the others as much attention, and i often feel unhappy about it! i like my male characters, but the others deserve some love too. so write what you like, do only what makes you creatively fulfilled, and don’t try to bend to fit into some other box. xx

Anyway, I get that. I started an indie that I haven't really used, since I unfortunately don't have the time for RPGs, thinking maybe I'd meet some new people to write with because more writing partners means even more plots (because I do feel a little bad for dumping 1384 plots onto one person, but not enough to stop and thankfully they're okay with this) and making more characters. But then I remember that 1) in order to meet people that means I have to... talk... to them. And I get anxious though I try to hide it. And 2) I have 99% female characters. From my experience back in ye olde days in indie and RPGs especially, and 1x1 too albeit not quite to the same degree, people really do not like that. I guess in a more public RP setting (i.e. not 1x1/MM with one person) so many female character makes me look like I just want some hot dudes to throw girls at and I’ve been a little anxious about it. I can assure you as someone who is 100% Gayer Than The Skittles Rainbow this is not true. My two true passions in life are cats and girls.

You're right though. Writing what other people will want to see and want from you will set expectations that you don't want to have attached to you. I have to not worry about that. Out of my 64 characters (some I have yet to add, I can count!), only three are guys. :') I’ll write more in the future because there are some FCs I’d like to use, but they’re few and far between. I usually think, “Ok, this is cool as M/F, but what if... F/F?”

It seems that even from back in the day when I first joined -- 2013-14? -- the preference for male characters over female characters has remained. I left the RP scene for a little while and it's a shame to see how that hasn't really changed.

even though i probably qualify as someone you’d call ‘smart’ i’m much more in tune with my creative side (but that may just be the school trauma talking lmao) and i enjoy writing a lot. i also enjoy reading. my favorite are mysteries! other things i like doing is playing video games and watching YT vids about my latest hyperfixation. some more misc interests: history, true crime, anime, musical theater, and cute animals.

ngl i’m ace and so romantic/sexual relationships have never really been all too important to me. if it happens, it happens. ofc this is a ship request LOL, and while i don’t really have a type, i could only imagine living the rest of my life with someone who understands i’m not gonna be the most physically affectionate and that this neurodivergent potato needs space sometimes.

i’m not the biggest texter or responder to things either (usually not gonna be having lengthy convos in texts), and more of the type to randomly send someone something that reminded me of them at weird hours. but i’m not very high maintenance and if i love you, just chilling together is enough.

things i can’t stand in people: bigotry, pretentiousness, defensiveness when rightly called out for something, nazis (+ sympathizers) ✌️

Lowkey nervous to say that because I know a lot of people don't like him, but 👏hear👏me👏out👏

You know meet-cutes? Y'all accidentally have a meet-not-so-cute. You meet at Camp Toccoa and get off on the wrong foot because Webster is waxing poetic about weekend passes being canceled, and you think he's annoying and pretentious. Because of this, he ends up thinking you're more reserved, but once you finally get to know each other and you open up to him, he could swear that you're personality is brighter and warmer than the sun in the sky

This man is a hyperfixation enabler (in the best way)! He is so content to hear you infodump about the subjects that you're passionate about, and he's super happy to have someone to infodump about sharks with in return

Creative power couple. You're so supportive of each other's writing, helping each other through writer's blocks and bouncing ideas off each other. But he's also content to just sit next to you on quiet days while you both read. He just likes to spend time with you in any form

On occasion, he's a night owl -- especially if he's super hyperfixated on his work. He'll try his best -- like, he's trying really, really, hard, so credit where credit is due -- but he will probably wake you up in the middle of the night at some point to tell you a fact he thinks that you'll like. (And if you wanna show him facts that reminded you of him? His heart will literally melt, because he thinks being remembered is one of the greatest forms of love)

BUT at the same time, he completely gets it if you need space --especially physically. Honestly, he tends to get caught up in his writing so easily that if you need space, he's not gonna mope around or anything because he'll be using he time to work on his novel. I feel like y'all could just work so well together because, yeah it's fun to be around each other, but you both need time to recharge by yourselves, and there's no judgement in that

There is a learning curve, though, so you gotta give him some patience. It's not that Webster means to be overdramatic or pretentious, but sometimes he comes across that way, and he can be a little socially awkward because of it. Give him some time and he'll do better (because he would do anything for you), but patience is key while he learns

I hope you like poetry, because at some point, he is going to write some for you. Or just write anything about you. You know that quote about how "if a writer falls in love with you, you can never die"? Yeah, people reading his work hundreds of years from now are going to know exactly how head-over-heels David Webster was for you
