emily reviews the GG sonic games
over the past few months i beat the GG sonic games with all chaos emeralds. well, here are my thoughts!
Sonic the Hedgehog What a sweet game. Forgiving but satisfyingly challenging, and with a sense of style the others really can't match. in many ways this game's presentation is actually more polished than its 16-bit counterpart. It makes me feel more within the World established by ancillary media in JP of the time than the main game does. The role this game has in the story of its developer, Ancient, also adds to the appeal. I would give this game a smooch.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 This is such a contrast with 1 that it's a bit of whiplash going in. the art is raw and unpracticed, and the gameplay is aggressive toward you in the way old platformers frequently will be. But after giving in and switching from GG to the MS version (after beating Mecha Antlion once on GG to prove myself), i was able to meet the game where it wanted me to. The challenge became fun, and it was satisfying to make it through to the end. Making the 'special stage' a true final zone with vaporwave stylings based on the 16-bit special stages is an inspired use of limited rom space, and was really fun to play too. they haven't made a zone like Crystal Egg before or since. oh yeah and toot toot sonic warrior originated here - what a landmark tune for this game to have to its name. scrappy game altogether, but in a way where you're happy to see it succeed :)
Sonic and Tails ('chaos') Feels like Aspect is trying to establish their own voice as a sonic dev here. The portable and motobug springs are smart ideas that lend themselves to new puzzle structures, and the rocket shoes are just kind of silly. The experimental special stages are interesting, but it was definitely a miss that when you unlock one, it takes you out of an act without the opportunity to go back and finish it later. The premise that Eggman has an emerald and that's why you only need to get 5 is funny, but I respect it as a way for them to rebalance the challenge in a way they were happy with, without sacrificing the established lore that there must be 6 altogether. Aqua Planet feels weirdly prescient of Hydrocity. Electric Egg feels like someone wasn't finished with Scrambled Egg from the last game, and needed another attempt. I enjoy the tube puzzles so that's fine.
Sonic and Tails 2 ('triple trouble') I initially bounced hard off of this one. The special stage entry restrictions felt too restrictive - 50 rings PLUS find ONE monitor hidden somewhere in the stage. It combines the mainline S2 and S3 concepts into a double challenge. Once you're comfortable enough with the game though, its actually very manageable to plot your route. The visuals do great work translating the S3&K style into 8-bit, probably the prettiest of these aside from 1 (although thats obviously subjective). knuckles piloting a boss vehicle is funny. Fang is funny. I wish they hadnt taken away his gun. Big props to this game for committing to its own core mechanics for sonic - they put in some great challenges making use of balling-up-from-spring and the strike dash.
Not sure if i'll bother with Sonic Blast, at least for the time being. on the whole though these games are fun if you don't expect them to be exactly like the mega drive games.

To the people indulging in "brony" culture as nostalgia causes them to have a my little pony interest revival, take off the rose colored glasses will you??? We do NOT need to be sharing the pornographic innuendos, the gore jumpscares, the nazi forums all under the premise of "OMG SO NOSTALGIC WHO REMEMBERS THIS???" WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO REMEMBER THAT???? THAT WAS NOT NORMAL AND I AM 100% SERIOUS WHEN I SAY, CONSIDER TALKING TO YOUR THERAPIST ABOUT IT!!!!!!!

Why I loved Encanto: An Unnecessarily Wordy Post
Warning: *spoilers ahead*
1. It Surprised me
I was really sus to watch Encanto. I had glimpsed a few ads on the interweb, and I figured it was gonna be some weird, new-agey, everyone-finds-the-power-they-need-deep-within-themselves (like we've never heard that one before), movie that I really wouldn't like, but then I actually watched it and it was so different from what I expected. The absolute definition of a pleasant surprise.
Tumblr media
2. The Villain
My second favorite thing about Encanto was the "villain" and the fact that there was no villain. The only real "villain" of Encanto, was the pain within their family.
Idk if this was actually what they were trying to convey, but what I envisioned watching the movie was that when Casita started cracking, it was like a visual representation of how everyone in the family was carrying and burying so much pain for the sake of Abuela and the rest of the family, and trying to pretend that everything was fine, even though they were dying inside. To me the Casita was like a physical manifestation of the family. They were all trying so hard to pretend that everything was okay, but they were still falling apart because so much pretending really does take a toll, ("watch as she buckles and bends but never breaks"). You can see the house beginning to crack as the family is put under more and more pressure, and you can see how the cracks start to heal, like say during What More Can I Do when Isabella realizes that she doesn't have to be exactly what her family wants all the time and she's allowed to be her own unique person. And then how the house finally collapses under all the anger and discord, but they're able to rebuild it once they reunite. The fact that the Madrigal's biggest enemy was the ways that they had hurt each other and couldn't be totally united because of it, was very huge to me, and probably other people like me who deal with very loving, caring families who have still managed to hurt them.
Tumblr media
3. The Plot
The whole point of this movie was that the Madrigal's had been given a very special gift and they were supposed to use that gift to help others; but if they didn't truly love and care for each other and admit their mistakes and help each other and support each other, they couldn't utilize their gift to its full potential.
I loved that instead of one character having to unlock their true potential and prove the family wrong and save them all (definitely what I thought was gonna happen), the climax of the story was Abuela (who did the most damage to the family) and mostly everyone else having to admit that they made mistakes and they were hurt and they weren't always perfect, and then they all forgave each other and started healing and loving each other and trying their best to grow together and work together as an imperfect family who loved each other no matter what. That is such a cute and wholesome premise for a kids movie. A character being able to say 'yes, even though I love my family I still hurt them because I'm human, but I apologized and they forgave me and they still love me because we're a family' or 'yes, my family hurt me and I'm still healing from it and I may be for awhile, but I still love them to death because they're not perfect and neither am I' is something that hits so close to home and I am SO here for it.
Tumblr media
4. The Family Bond
One of the things that hit me in the gut about this movie was that this family LOVES each other. So often there's always so much beef and anger and trauma and pettiness and just general rudeness displayed within families in the media, or its just the few surviving members of the family loving each other. And while I get that thats pretty common in our culture sadly, why does it have to be in every movie too? What about happy healthy family representation too?
Encanto made me so happy because it showcased a large, multi-generational family with almost all of its members (rip Abuelo), living in one house together, and they were HAPPY to be around each other. They LOVED each other. They had their spats and arguments and problems like all families, but they still loved being around each other. Family members were all comfortable being around each other and in each other's spaces, and even the estranged family member longed to still be part of family dinner. Even though Abuela was very disapproval of the family at large, they still tried so hard to please her because they loved her and wanted her to be happy.
The way the family treated Mirabel also stuck out to me. I figured that since she didn't have a gift, we would quickly find out that her family were total rude asshats to her, but like...no? They weren't? She had her times when she felt like she was missing out, like she couldn't be as helpful as everyone else, or during her song Waiting on a Miracle, but like...duh. If I was the only person in my family without superpowers I would be mad miserable, but Mirabel wasn't. She struggled with those feelings, but she also seemed very happy likewise, and determined to be just as useful as the rest of the family. And she harbored no resent or anger toward her family because they were gifted and she wasn't (and lemme tell you, mad props to her honestly). Even in one of her first scenes we see her happily and enthusiastically introducing the rest of the family and their abilities, and you can see that she's just bursting with pride for them and for being a part of the same family. Obviously some of the family (*cough*Abuela*cough*Isabella*cough*) didn't always treat her well, but aside from them, none of the family ever once intentionally treated her like she was an outcast or inferior to them. She was always obviously and unmistakably a part of the family. (My brain almost wants to draw a parallel between the Madrigal's with Mirabel and families with siblings or members with special needs or disabilities, but honestly thats a whole different post).
Tumblr media
5. Isabela
Just need to take a hot sec to talk about Isabela's song because it was a rollercoaster of thoughts in my head. At very first when I saw the cactus I thought 'oh shit, she gonna kill Mirabel so bad for making her grow a cactus' and then when she picked it up I was like 'lol wat?' And then when she started singing I was like 'oh crap, here we go.' Definitely for a hot sec I thought that Isabela was going to become a villain. I thought she would have her sassy, feminist-y, Elsa-esque dance number where she threw off the expectations of her family and realized that she was so much more powerful than them and than they thought she was, and she was going to get all sassy and angry and start laying ruin to them because she was so much more than they thought she was. But THEN! SHOCK of all SHOCKS! Instead of using that super toxic feminist trope that you must be angry at everyone for everything, we got a super cute and sweet sister song. I was so pleasantly surprised that instead of an 'I have been FORCED into making FLOWERS which are UGLY and I am a REBEL' song from Isabela, we got a 'dang, everybody always wanted me to make perfect flowers, but these other colors and plants are also pretty and express me much better, and I would love to make things that I also think are beautiful, just in a different way.' And like, the way that she sang and danced with Mirabel and they goofed off together (MOST realistic sister vibes in Encanto were them being snarky and hating each other all movie, and then bursting out into elaborate song and dance and having an absolute bomb time together with flowers and colorful explosions) put new life into me. This song pretended to be rebellious and wild, but was actually so cute and wholesome (just like older sisters but hey).
Tumblr media
6. Luisa
I'm actually going to make a whole post for Luisa because I have so much to say about her, so look out for that. I'll put a link here when I post it.
Tumblr media
Whelp, that's it for now y'all! In conclusion, watch Encanto, tell your family you love them, laugh, cry, create a bucket-wearing alter-ego who spackles walls, whatever it is you do. I'll probably have more Encanto thoughts someday and if I do, I'll add them onto this post. Congrats Disney, you actually impressed me.

In Defense of Salt AND Sugar: Aka ML Fandom pls chill out.
So I don’t talk much as those who follow me will say I tend to just stick to myself and my own things. HOWEVER, Ive gotten a lot of asks about why I write both Salt and Sugar for Miraculous Ladybug.
The short answer: Both salt and sugar are valid, fun, intriguing things to read and write and the point of writing is to entertain and be entertained.
The long answer: Salt isn’t inherently someone hating on your fav show and sugar isn't someone necessarily giving it a free pass either. Ya’ll are just dramatic as hell.
The LONGER answer:
I write salt because I LIKE Miraculous Ladybug, BUT the show has not lived up to its potential AT ALL. The show could be so much better and the characters are so flawed or full of holes that occasionally I feel FRUSTRATED and mad!
I hate that Alya a character who I was so excited about, gets shafted ignored, sidelined, or written like a jerk! She could have been this great detective working alongside her friend to unmask the villain, but instead she often comes across as pushy, obsessed with Ladynoir or Adrinette, and so damn easily tricked. Not to mention how when shes not gushing over her ‘ships’ shes pushed to the side and ignored. [or you know... LILA]
I hate that Marinette’s crush makes her do things that are so cringy and awkward i feel ill I hate that she’s constantly the only one making mistakes and ‘learning lessons’ when the show has all these other great characters that could use the spotlight and be the ones learning lessons. I hate that she’s so jealous and that she cant ever seem to catch a break as if the show is punishing her constantly.
I HATE that Adrien is a mary sue, how the writers say hes perfect and treat him as such, I hate that he gets to guilt Marinette into fixing everything and dealing with bullies, I wanted a funny, Ron Stoppable, naive boy who learns about real friendships and grows into a great partner. Instead he gets to be pushy and downright a jerk as Chat Noir ignoring his responsibilities, guilting Ladybug with his feelings, never taking no as an answer. He’s not a good role model for kids.
I hate that Chloe got built up to have a redemption arc several times only for the writers to decide that Chloe a teenage girl who needs some serious therapy [and actual reasonable punishment for her actions] is worse than Gabriel child abuse Agreste. She could have been a great lesson on compassion and growth and dealing with your own pain without hurting others. Instead the writers wrote her off completely.
And dont get me started on how the show treats Nino, Kagami, Luka and the rest of the cast. They may as well be a backdrop for the forced love square that we NEVER get a break from. Seriously I’m a sucker for romance but does it need to be EVERY damn episode?! Can’t we just get some wholesome friendship between everyone including Adrien and Marinette at this point like COME ON.
And i’m not even touching on the white washing, awful lessons on responsibility and forgiveness, awful lessons on well so much other stuff really, the guilt trips, the teacher, the fact that she show could be used to teach kids how to better handle negative emotions and the importance of open communication and not keeping quiet about injustice and/or your feelings but instead decided that the main priority should be a love square that gets force fed to us EVERY SINGLE EPISODE.
My point is the show has FLAWS. That doesn’t mean its the worse show ever and it doesn’t mean its not fun, and has a great premise and characters, and so when I write Salt I write it because i’m frustrated! Im frustrated with the show, with the characters, with the writing and so I vent that out with salt I write those characters as their worst selves because I cant stand how the show has decided to treat them and Im ANGRY and disappointed.
It feels good to write salt and to read it. It’s nice to see characters get called out for bad behavior, its nice to read about Adrien not getting the girl. Its nice to occasionally indulge in salt because it validates that the show is flawed and lets you get out that frustration.
BUT ON THE FLIP SIDE
Miraculous Ladybug is a lovely show. It’s a show that decided to give little girls a FEMALE HERO. And not just as a side kick or background character! No they made her the protagonist! Its so important to me that little girls see good well rounded female characters in media.
And even if the show is clumsy about it they are TRYING to build an expansive lore that tickles the theorist brain. And gets people invested in the world.
The show also made Marinette shy, and awkward, and clumsy something a lot of girls deal with during puberty as growing up can literally make you clumsier as your body adjusts. Having a character who tries to be positive and tries to find solutions who solves things with creativity instead of pure violence. Thats LOVELY for young girls to see.
Growing up I loved and admired Kim Possible, and probably would have loved Marinette, even if the shows not perfect I can admit its trying and I can see why people love it as much as they do! And why they write these fluffy sugary fics its the reason I WRITE fluffy sugary things.
Because even though I am frustrated and angry and disappointed with the show, I still see Alya’s potential and how great she is as representation to little girls who want a black female superhero so I write fluff where Alya’s loyalty, compassion, cleverness and her pursuit of justice are center stage.
I see how Adrien could be better and I want him to be better and I WANT him to be the naive funny comic relief the Ron Stoppable to Marinette’s Kim Possible. I want Adrien to grow and learn and spit in his dad’s face I want him to overcome the abuse and be happy. To show people that neglect and abuse doesn’t mean you will get stuck like that forever, that you can overcome that and be a better kinder person.
I want Nino and Kagami, and Luka and Chloe and the class to grow and get attention and have funny moments I want to laugh and make other people laugh! So I write prompts focused around comedy and shenanigans and where the characters get to be fun and silly and make decisions for themselves!
SO IN CONCLUSION:
I write salt AND sugar. I see the value and merit in both sides of the coin, and I respect how other people see the show. I know its easy to get angry with other people in the fandom who see the show differently then you do but please can we put down the weapons and just BREATHE.
Someone who writes salt might LOVE the same show as you, and they might in fact love it so much that they vent their frustrations in angst and salt and cracky fics. Let them vent about how they wish the show was better, leave their tags alone or block them if you cant stand to see it. But dont attack salt writers for ‘hating on your show’ when they might love it just as much as you do but want a way to vent out their feelings.
On the flip someone who writes sugar might NOT be forgiving the show for its flaws, they might see all the same flaws as you but decide to take that frustration and write fluff and fix it fics and sugar because they want to indulge in a version of their favorite show where everything is just... OK. Where everyone is well written and happy and the character development sticks. Stay out of their tags let them have their sugar, they aren't writing it to hurt you just like you don't write salt to hurt them.
So ENOUGH. Enough hunting each other down, enough sending each other hate, enough filling each others tags. Let people write SALT if they feel angry and vengeful and disappointment, let them have their tags, let them explore the dark side of the characters, let them rant and rave and be HURT when the characters they love upset them with their actions. Its not your place to tell them to stop, to tell them their feelings are invalid, to tell them that ‘adrien is sweet sunshine boy how dare you’ or ‘alya would never’ or ‘i hate your marinette leaves dupont au’. Just leave it be, heed the tags, and let it go.
AND ENOUGH. Enough hunting each other down, enough sending each other hate, enough filling each other tags. Let people write SUGAR if they just want something to feel happy about. Let them makes coffee shop au’s, let them make fix it fics where everything is just happy without needing 8 pages of backstory for why everything is just happy. Let them squeal and gush and talk about the ship they like and the fluff they see. Its not your place to argue with them that the show is flawed, its not cool to ruin their fun by accusing them of not understanding the flaws, to tell them ‘umm actual this character shouldn’t get to be happy’ or ‘wow this is so shallow’. Just leave it be, heed the tags, and let it go.
PS: Now with that said and done. I do have one final message for everyone - If you write/enjoy pedophilia, if you sexualize KIDS. Then get the fuck out of fandom spaces, stop fucking following me, and do everyone salt and sugar a favor by LEAVING. Your pedophilia and child sexualization aint wanted, aint ok, and I will fight you.
PSS: IF YOU HATE WHAT IVE SAID ABOUT SUGAR AND SALT FINE OK I RESPECT YOU REGARDLESS. ENJOY THE SHOW, STAY CLASSY, DONT HURT PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION.

OCtober: Cal and Ed
It’s finally over. I’m sorry for the delay but stuff has been Happening. If there’s a tourism site that attracts you more to one city or the other, let me know.
Calgary | Edmonton
Below is some meta stuff about the ‘research’ (if you can even call it   that, it was more of a vibe check) I did for re-doing the profiles. Read  on, if it intrigues you. And I gotta mention there’s a bonus rabbit hole I went down for Calgary’s self-image that is. Well. A Lot.
Major Cities: Calgary and Edmonton
We made it team, the heart of the Battle of Alberta, the major city rivalry that defined generations. Calgary is the largest city in the province and the centre of southern Alberta, a young, fast-paced major city that oscillates wildly between boom and bust and is attracting both attention and employees from the traditional major cities in Canada. Edmonton is the capital of the province and the the most northern major city with a metro population of over one million on the continent, a little older and more blue collar, somewhat more stable economically, and quickly rising to meet the challenges presented by open data and sustainable urban planning. And, as we know, they've been antagonizing each other since the 19th century, but collaborating as well.
Website Round Up Premise
While I was revisiting these character profiles, I took a look at how cities represented themselves on their municipal sites and tourism sites rather than how cities were represented in the news or in stereotypes, as the latter already tend to live in the back of my head. I was interested to see who the target audiences for each city were, what they considered their strengths, and how much effort each city put into putting its own identity on display. I was also interested into what ideas sort of fed into any pre-existing confirmation bias I had about each city's personality as well as interested in what narratives might be used to counteract negative stereotypes. The first thing I tended to notice was the overall information architecture of each city's website. How easy were they to navigate? What kinds of information did they have? How did they organize it? How did they communicate that information?
Out and About
There's a sharp difference between the websites of major cities from other cities. They are very careful to separate the corporation of 'The City of' from the cities we might know, and therefore both websites have a much more business-like tone and more distance from their civic identities. This means no traditional "About" pages as other cities might have.
At the time I'm visiting, Edmonton's page has some ADORABLE art of a nuthatch that's making me very homesick. Calgary has a seasonally appropriate snowy skyline.
Calgary does have an "Our Organization" tab which describes the City as a corporation, and likewise Edmonton has a "City Government" tab that performs a similar function. Edmonton's is in alphabetical order which is only a little annoying and Calgary's reads like a very perfectly chunked business portfolio that doesn't... really say as much as it looks like it does, but it does get bonus points for vision/organization/accessibility.
I have never seen a more concise history of Calgary in my life. It's literally three bullet points and a couple of bracketing sentences, but it does do the job. Calgary is, more or less, what it says it is (although I do take slight issue with its self identification as a trading post - it may have functioned that way but that was not what it was founded for and in fact the trading companies gtfo'd asap in those early days). It goes on to paint a very good sketch of the city in as few lines as possible in the text, and there's a little video at the end that feels like it was voiced over in 1988 even though it's clearly not.
Edmonton's City government page is even vaguer. Let's make a more dynamic and resilient Edmonton shall we, the page suggests. Resilient against What Exactly, I wonder. Winter? The boom-bust? Calgary? who knows. The majority of the sub pages are even more mysterious and essentially paint the picture of a city. It's a normal city. Trust us. We do city things. Here is exactly how government works and how to raise and lower a flag. In Edmonton, which is, in fact, a city.
I'm begging you if you think Calvin is hokey and annoying please read the Our Culture page and see it's EXACTLY how I intended to portray him because it's eXACTLY what it's already like. "The Four C's of Our Culture" give me a break.
Edmonton offers me a picture of the skyline and says "City of Opportunity: City of You". I suppose this is true. I don't know what it means. I fear slightly for its intentions.
I keep seeing "Calgary: A great place to make a living, a great place to make a life" and it's like. Stop! I won't go! You can't make me! (and again the Strong and Resilient Calgary. these kids are always catching colds because they don't eat properly.)
Although Edmonton makes literally zero attempt to define itself (outside perhaps the official symbols page hidden under Facts and Figures), what strikes me is that it is portraying itself as a very future-oriented city, which, when I was growing up we really never were. We were an inward city constantly wishing we were somewhere else which is partially still true, and we were a city with such an intense nostalgia (that unlike Calgary we failed to really capitalize on) that grated roughly against a complete failure to preserve history. It does kind of make me glad that the city is looking towards the future and just like, acknowledging basic realities (like snow) and trying to involve people in urban planning more (and throughout the website the city LOOOOVES to share data which I also called, haha). There's also an adorable animation of the city road map in its strategic planning pages. It's interesting that for a city that leaves itself up to your own interpretation, it does have a LOT of information about itself collected and available.
Tourism
Oddly enough, neither city has substantially changed their tourism homepage to accommodate COVID-related staycation plans, although each does mention that many things may be closed or unavailable as a result of the pandemic.
CaLGARy, Be PaRT of THe EnERGy!!
I like how Edmonton's self-presentation is "original" and "we do things differently". It's like a Keep ___ Weird thing but in an understated self-assured way that makes me laugh a little. Like yeah, I guess we are kind of different, I guess we're just not used to seeing that as a good thing.
In the tourism guides there isn't much to say about Calgary's that isn't just "oh, classic Calgary" but I do think the fact that they have "quick facts" to explain what timezone it's in and what currency they use is adorable to say the least. also the title of the guide is CALGARY (and the canadian rockies) and that sums up Calgary pretty well, which I'll elaborate on more.
I actually can't find Edmonton's guide, if it has one, but that's ok. The website hits all the buttons that I would and I actually use exploreedmonton quite frequently because it has a nicer event calendar than the city website does, which is important in a place nicknamed Festival City. I really appreciate how things are organized by month/season and even down to "what's happening today/tomorrow/this week" because it makes planning trips for my visitors easy, so now you know my secret : ) I wish I could just beam this site directly into people's brains when they mention "oh yeah thats where the mall is" when I say I'm from Edmonton.
Interestingly enough it's Calgary's turn to be vague, which I can only assume is part of its "exactly what it says it is" charm. This desperation to find a shred of self-description outside of things to do and places to stay led me down a rabbit hole I will elaborate on in a moment that truly showed me I Knew Nothing about how deep Calgary's branding goes. Otherwise, the website is very practical and functions more like an answer to questions you had about the what and the how and less so the why.
Also, the "Locals" page on Calgary's site has tips on hosting friends and family from around the province safely during the pandemic which is kind of cute. Edmonton doesn't really have a local page (i guess because if we had a hashtag like #loveyyc we'd ruin it)
Bonus: The Rabbit Hole
I wondered why Calgary's tourism page, which I expected to be the most in your face description of the city possible, fell kind of flat. I learned this seems to be because tourists are not the target audience that Calgary wants to attract. It's companies and corporations, and they get their own page.
Boy oh boy do they get their own page
This led me down this frightening path of getting validation like being repeatedly punched in the face by what On Brand Calgary truly means and I'm frankly quite speechless about it - all I can say is that you need to see it for yourself.
The tourism site gestures to a Billion reasons why you should hold your next meeting in Calgary and here is where the self definition as Big City Energy and Western Hospitality starts kicking the tires and lighting the fires. Likewise with the media-oriented page. Suddenly stuff like the Calgary Bucket List starts popping up and I can't help but go hang on, why not suggest this to tourists?
"It's cowboy spirit, but also refined and cosmopolitan" [sighs into hands]
Suddenly all the "Calgarians love visitors! Calgarians love the outdoors!" stuff is spilling out like water from a dam here. "Where's Calgary?" [Link that reads FIND US].
Like i literally feel like the tourism side on the left is the Kids Menu, it's the corporate stuff on the right that I'm actually finding the type of information I want on. Eventually, I somehow make my way to Calgary's Destination Strategy which is trying to make Calgary a place that... well, people go. Like, internationally. Like the Olympics but MORE of that.
Then I find the Brand Evolution. Then I find Calgary's Economic Development site. The poetry about rocky mountain prairie skies and "where a handshake still means something" starts to reach its peak.
Then back through the tourism site I find the video. And the video makes me shake because it suggests the premise of The Powerpoint.
The Powerpoint. I cannot summarize the powerpoint in any meaningful way or how my emotions were a rollercoaster further and further up and down the longer i scrolled. Everything I know and suggest about Calgary seems to be unequivocally true, including the sense that Calgary as a person is the sort of person who makes powerpoints about his own identity crisis because that's precisely what this is.
And then I get to the part of the powerpoint that suggests I imagine what kind of person the city of Calgary might be (and implied: does that person think about anything other than the mountains???) THEY EVEN DID AN OCEAN PERSONALITY TEST FOR THE CITY I KID YOU NOT
Tumblr media
Hi, City of Edmonton, hire me to take an OCEAN test for our fair city. I'm begging you.

I love your fanfics! And I was wondering do you have any tips for original fanfic writing or just writing fics in general?
wow this actually ended up a lot longer than i thought it would, but here we go!
Original fanfics, hmmmmmm....
What I generally do is base things off of my own personal experience. Like all my iida fics are stuff that happened between me and my husband before we got married. Can’t help falling in love fic with bakugo, that was a previous relationship i had (which there is more to that story). Caught with todoroki..... thats how i got out of a ticket with a cop and how i learned that when i half check someone out and half start thinking about what i would do to that fine man in uniform (curse my uniform kink) that i glare/make a suspicious face. and when he confronted me about what i was doing, ready to write some kind of ticket for whatever i was doing wrong, i was so embarrassed that i blurted out that i found him very attractive and what exactly was on my mind and how i wanted to take that uniform off him.... that has happened with a emt too, i missed the green light looking at his bulging biceps after he rolled up his sleeves to write on a clip board.... he waved and i proceeded to squat in my seat and slam my face against the stirring wheel. escape artist cat was actually a dream i had, someone was taking off my cat’s pretty ribbon collars and putting ugly ones on her and i woke up sooooo mad, but i turned that dream into a romance story (reality kuiper was taking her collars off herself cause she was a brat) Stories about yourself, no matter how small you think it is actually has great potential to become a fic.
its also okay to borrow ideas from other forms of media. I do. example, Silk Maiden, based off of  an old batman episode from the early 2000s. its completely okay to do that. I’m not saying copy and paste the exact scenes. Just take the premises and then change it. some examples, like the movie Brave is the Scottish version of Aladdin. the princess who wants to be free and live her life beyond her princess duties needs to get married and she is not having it and wants to change the rules and runs away to find something new. premise is the same but how the story is told is different, one denies every prince and find her own prince in the streets of her kingdom and the other finds a cake that turns her mom into a bear that helps them understand each other and appreciate each other more. a weeb example is isekais. There are sooooo many isekais. japan, Korea, and china are all mass producing isekais right now. the premises are all the same, someone from one world now in another world primarily thanks to magical truck-kun who is probably could be branded as a mass serial killer at this point. I read a lot and i love korean isekai romance novels. I have read an isekai where the character was a villain who then was reincarnated with the memories of her villainous previous life who decided to live her new life by repenting by helping others but guess what? truck-kun came in the form of a airplane crash and she wakes up again in her first life’s preteen body before she became a villain. I’m reading an isekai isekai, author of an isekai met truck-kun and woke up inside the body of one of her characters in her isekai novel. all the same premise but told in a different way. i want to write an isekai for bnha! take a premise and write what you wanted to see happen between those characters if they were in that situation.
same for some fanfics, like you read a fanfic and you like the story that you read but you wished for something more. You like the idea but you wished that it went in this direction or you wanted different  types of interaction, its okay to write your own fic with the same premises. i’ve done that. (side note: but if you are gonna base off of it where a lot of the stuff is the same the give the proper credit where it deserves. no stealing peoples hard work) thats what fanfic was originally made for, fans wanted something more from their favorite works or wants something different (Thank you star trek fandom who started all this). I’ve read a lot of villain deku fics and i was craving a specific type of villain fic where “he really isnt a villain but is one but there is a reason why hes being evil cause it is for the greater good cause of deku’s savior complex and border line martyr complex he’s had since he was a child” with a side of “hero/villain romance”, “surprise quirk” and “badass” and a healthy scoop of “bakugo becomes a better person on his own without deku at UA through the power of friendship cause he has that potential without deku’s constant interference”. no one had what i wanted, so i started writing it myself.
also dont worry about being original. you can write a common idea that everyone sees a thousand times a day, like isekai, and people will love it. focus on how you are telling your story, dont put so much effort in being different. actually, common or typical tropes/ideas help make the story more relatable. two books can be equally as good but one person can like book A over book B because they felt more connected to the characters in it. they could relate to the emotions that were being conveyed.
now writing tips....hmmmmm well not everything works for everyone but this is what i do
I write notes down, lots of them. I have notebooks full of notes for my fics. some people can just sit there and start writing, but i like notes to keep me on track and remind me of stuff i wanted to add. Writing it down makes it easier not to forget, cause you are just lying to yourself if you think you’ll remember the idea for later. i got dialogue, scenes, plots, random quirk ideas, diagrams, (12) oc profiles, outlines, lists, and a event idea that i have that i want to do some day, all in my notebook. If you are going to write a long fic i strongly encourage that you do this. Outlines are your friend, they are bones of the story Ex:
Hero By Another Name original outline:
meet at a fire, firefighter impresses kiri who will later seek her out
kiri is becoming popular and wants to share the fame
they bond some how(?)
firefighter kiri, kirishima needs to wear a firefighter uniform
firefighter turns out to be a mega fan of red riot
photoshoot
kirishima finds out shes a nerd and is cool with it
firefighter is now popular
camping with baku or bakusquad?
miscommunication
kirishima does a big confession
I always start off with the key things i want for sure to happen. then i start adding to it. I write out the scene i definitely want to see or i can see clearly in my head. i just keep adding to it till its at least three pages long of just outline that has some images, random dialogue i want someone to say or little summaries of the scene i want.
its okay to jump around when you write. there are some parts that you know you need in a story to help it move a long but it can be boring. so i write one scene that i want to happen next and then i think of what needs to happen to get to that point. like how in hero another name where kirishima shows up unannounced to her apartment  and finds out she hoards all his hero merch while not wearing pants.  how do you make that not sound creepy and have kirishima be okay with it? by adding bits of how much of a fan she is through out the story! when they first have dinner together i threw in that red riot shirt to help break the ice and that he would then know that she was a big enough fan to buy his merch and that she admires him and that he is an inspiration for her. then later adding that interview where she talks about how she became his fan shows that she has years of dedication to him as a hero. so when he sees all the merch she has, it would make sense to him that she had all of that and not go “huh, will i be able to leave this place if i enter?”
if you dont know it, look it up. research. i wrote a fic before where the reader was pregnant the entire time, i started at two months to birth. I knew nothing about pregnancy on how it can affect your daily life and what it feels like beyond what health class and child development class taught me. So i looked it up. there is seriously so much that doctors look for during those many ultrasounds cause there are so many things that can affect your health and the baby’s and did you know there is pregnancy diabetes? you can become diabetic only during pregnancy, like after you give birth it can go away or stay, the human body is just tripy. but thanks to that research, people who have had children before left comments going “yessss, i remember feeling that” or “god, this was my sister in this scene, it sucks”. Its that relatability i mentioned before that really helps and it makes the story more believable.
(this is just my personal opinion mainly here feel free to ignore) when it comes to smut, write what you know and not what you fantasize about. im not calling anyone out but i can tell from how someone writes sex that they never had it and they are most likely younger than me. i’ve experimented a lot in my 25 years of life and i find myself going “oh sweetie, thats not how the vagina/anus works” when i read fics sometimes. there are guides online that are very informative and tell you what the feelings are like that you would expect. dont rely on porn too much on how sex works physically, maybe for dialogue. (i think of porn as just live action fanfics for the human mating ritual fandom). its okay to use other smuts as reference tools as well, especially if you dont know anything of the bdsm lifestyle.
beta readers help a lot. if you are unsure of ideas that you have, talk it out with a friend. I sometimes do this for myself or help others with their fics. its actually a lot of fun with a group of people where you just keep shooting off ideas together about stuff and just go all out fangirlling to the point you are rolling on the ground smiling. this can help with writers block or motivate you to keep writing. also having another pair of eyes to look at your fics, not just for corrections but for input on the story can help make it better. someone can see things from a different angle and point stuff out to you, plot holes or things that you can add.
im not sure what else to say other than stuff like format and spacing. sometimes i see people who write too long of paragraphs or there is no clear separation between them. thats killer on the eyes and makes me not want to read at all cause all i see is this wall of text thats just overwhelming. i want to call who ever formatted textbooks cause thats how they do it and it makes it so hard to concentrate on reading and absorbing the info. if i see fics with no clear breaks or long running paragraphs, i usually give up half way cause i just cant do it. its hard to keep track where you are reading and you start trying to focus on it too much that the story is just lost on me. it is hard on people like me who have dyslexia (who ever called it that is just cruel to people who have it cause you can never spell it without spell check and pronouncing it is just ugggh)
i hope this helps

for @thedevianthunterrk800 who unknowingly dragged me into the pits of hell dau. now i can’t play or watch footage without focusing in on this man.
“I’m sorry, ma’am but no press are allowed on the premise without strict permission.”
The accusation nearly stuns you at first, before you realize in fact that you never quite shed your work clothing before venturing out. Not that it did much good now that you were caught red handed, you plucked your badge from you neck and offered a placating smile to the receptionist android.
“Sorry, I’m here on personal business not journalistic ventures.” As if to prove your point, you rose the hand clutching the bag of take out. “Just a wife bringing dinner to her husband.”
The android was quiet, her gaze giving you another look over. No doubt cross referencing your heart rate to your words. Perhaps had your husband not been employed at such a high risk job, a simple face recognition scan could have cleared you. But it seemed not even matrimony came with any real civil benefits.
The android completed its assessment.
“I see. Please-”
“Hey, what are you doing here so late?”
A visible shudder of relief ripped across your skin as you whipped around. Appearing to be finishing up for the evening, Hank was looked about what you expected him to look first thing in the morning- ready to go home.
It’s easy to offer a smile in disguise of pity. “Figured if he wasn't going to make an effort for dinner, I could at least keep him from starving.”
“Yeah, is that why he’s so cranky? Missing one too many meals?”
Hank’s years of ‘facility’ comradery with your husband managed to bleed into a promising friendship of your own. It was a specific type of working relationship that only your hardened husband could achieve. Frankly most of his more social interactions were bridged by your efforts in some way or fashion.
“Trying to keep him fed is a full time job.”
“Dealing with him period is a fucking career,” he muttered under his breath. Gratefully, Hank waved off the android. “Wife of the fucking SWAT captain, relax would you.”
“I honestly have no idea where he is but we all know his second wife is his desk.”
The obvious joke resonated differently with you than he likely intended for it to. In truth, your husband, his desk … and yourself had a bit of a polymourous relationship, to put it lightly. Not that you would embarrass David by bringing that up now.
Maybe over drinks on night.
Grateful for the unexpected intervention, you took advantage of the reprieve to escape through the security gates while you could. Waving to Hank, you bid him a good night.
“The fourth floor isn’t that big. He can’t hide forever.”
The few officers who did recognize you bid you a mix of greetings and farewells from those eager to return to their own families. As you climbed levels however, the gestures became more strict in the form of salutes and slim smiles that oozed stress.
Rolling your eyes to the roof of the elevator, you began to pray that it wasn't a premonition of what to expect when you finally discovered your husband. You reminded yourself that you were merely there to deliver a meal, not stir up anything that could be settled at home.
Your marriage worked this long because you respected those boundaries. The same ones that had been built without your knowledge back in university.
By the relaxed posture of his assistant it was safe to assume he wasn’t in his office. Rachel confirmed as much with a quick wave.
“Captain Allen is in a meeting, ma’am.”
“Thats fine. Is his office open? Just dropping off dinner.”
She eyed the bag as if it was a saving grace. No doubt a prayer she’d made earlier in the day to try and aleve whatever symptoms were aggravating her boss’ nerves.
If only it was so easy.
“I can get that for you.”
The panel in front of the door switches from red and blue, granting you access. You find yet another reason to send the young woman a nice gift basket. As if all the years of putting up with your husband didn’t earn her a vacation overseas.
Frankly, she might never look back.
“Thank you, Nancy.”
His office is as bleak and bland as the last time you’d entered it. Not even the wealth of his awards managing to permeate the walls. A few of the important credentials made the cut out of sheer necessity. You’d managed to break up the rest of the wall with two scenery photos.
And that was it.
For someone who practically made his office his home, the lack of comfortably baffled you.
Placing the bags on the corner of his desk, you made yourself comfortable in his chair. Your job title aloe made snooping both enticing and forbidden. A thin lace of trust had been bestowed upon you given your connection to one of the largest media networks in the city. While your husband’s authority gave you more liberties than most it didn’t mean it couldnt be ripped away.
So against your journalist instinct, you kept your hands to yourself while you twiddled with a simple app on your phone. Fortunately, your husband didn’t keep you waiting long before you heard Nancy sharp cry of warning.
“Oh! Wait sir, your-”
You don’t know who is more surprised when you husband enters his office unaware. His shoulders stiffen briefly before he recognizes your silhouette by his desk, Nancy’s warning long forgotten. He looked like he was ready to chew out his next victim of the day and you could only snort in amusement.
“Really, David.”
He’s wearing your favorite hoody of his- one you know come with a plethora of replacements but not a single is ever given to you despite your insistence. You’ve taken to wearing them briefly after laundry loads, while the house is to yourself. By the time he makes it home, its nestled comfortably in his drawer as if it was never touched.
A secret compromise.
The door slides shut behind him as he approaches the desk. Affections pleasantly not forgotten as he leans down to peck at your cheek,“Its late, you didn't have to come by.”
“Well, I was hungry too. Figured you wouldn't want your food to get cold. Reheating meat will sometimes make it tough.”
David took the opportunity to peek into the paper bags, a hint of a smile triggering wider one for you when he recognized one of his favorites. You watched quietly as he unpacked the food, not missing how he arranged things carefully to keeps your safely confined while setting aside his own.
It was an easier dismissal when you were expecting it.
The hard edge of your neglected badge bit into your skin as you adjusted yourself against the desk, “Trying to get rid of me so soon, captain. I didn’t even get to opportunity to ask my questions yet.”
Unraveling the warmth of a freshly baked roll, your husband gave you an unamused grimace before taking a bite from the buttery loaf.
“The SWAT team is not currently accepting any questions nor has any scheduled plans to council the press for ongoing operations.”
Your smile is as dangerous as your job implies, “So you guys are working on something top secret.”
“Would be home if it wasn’t.”
That was a lie and you both knew it. David would always find something to keep him occupied in his career. It had built him up and functioned as his stability. You were mere crutches on the sidelines waiting until you were needed.
As simple as it would be to challenge the claim, you thought better of it. Instead you continued to eat up time, relaxed comfortably in his chair while your husband was distracted with his meal. It seemed that his hunger had gotten to a point where he was reluctant to entertain anything that isn't satisfying his stomach.
“Strip was sold out, so I hope skirt is okay?”
Your husband wasn’t huge on grilling like some of the neighbors in your area but he did appreciate a good steak. Sometimes if you were lucky, he would even surprise you with a nice dinner in the kitchen on the rare occasions he actual beat you home or the scarcer days off.
Using his teeth, David fought the crackle of the plastic wrapped utensil set,” Smells good, baby. Thank you.”
His obvious appreciation warmed you enough to coax a bit of boldness out of you. Walking your fingertips closer to the bag, you tugged it closer. “The renovators called back. They can fit us in next weekend to resurface the shower.”
Your house wasn’t old but there had been some changes you’d promised yourself when you’d first moved it. Earlier in your marriage, you had hoped to make a couples project out of it. But as the years passed, you began to understand that if you didn't  get someone else on the job it wasn't going to get done.
Carefully pulling your own box free, you kept your voice even as your poked through your meal. “I’m having my mom come meet them that Thursday so they can do a final walkthrough for a quote. I’ll be home for the other days.”
“You’re not worried she won't change your plans?”
Twirling your pasta around your fork, you gave his question a thoughtful pause. It had crossed your mind. Your home wasn’t the first thing she had tried to intervene in. But you had made your own wishes noted in the initial meeting. Having your mother there was just supervision at this point.
“Nah, I'll be there for all the real work. I really just need her to keep Kaius calm.”
Retired from service but certainly not an impression on his age, the eight year old shepard still took his training seriously at home. It made it difficult to let anyone into the house without one of you there to assure him it was okay. The task was still difficult for you without David’s overwhelming presence to settle the canine.
Resting his hip against the corner of the desk, your husband became visibly more relaxed into the conversation as he balanced the bottom of his togo box on his hand. “I don’t mind if he comes to work. He should be fine in my office for a day.”
You shrugged,”It's all worked out.”
At most, you were expecting one human to supervise a few androids. As impersonal as it made the job, it certainly didnt put a damper on efficiency. You expected nothing less than the projected project.
He surprised you by leaning in then to press a quick kiss to your lips, a sneaky swipe of tongue catching the splash of sauce previously unknown to you. When you look up, he was watching you with that analytical look.
“I know what you’re doing.”
Caught, you could only smile sheepishly as you pointed the fork in his direction. “This is nice, don’t ruin it.”
Humming thoughtfully, your husband eventually returned to his own meal.
David finished well before fullness crept in for you, his own haste favoring time over taste. But he was getting his nutrition so you found it hard to complain.
A few tedious comments came to mind but none of them felt strong enough to tether him to a conversation. Accepting the time you got gratefully, you began putting away the leftovers to take home.
“I’m off tomorrow so you don’t need to tip toe. I’ll leave the light on above the stove.”
Sometimes you found it funny how much your friends raves about the life you must have being married to a SWAT captain. Overwhelmed by their own fantasies of rugged encounters and frantic passion.
It was true on occasion. There were times  that the stress of the job encouraged his hands to be a little more rough. Or time constraints found you bent over something convenient with your panties jerked to the side.
As thrilling as it was, the novelty wore off quicker than it did in literature.
There wasn’t a day you weren’t thankful of how well your husband aged, you just wanted more opportunities to appreciate it.
You rise from your seat, expecting a final kiss of gratitude before you went on your way.
You hasn’t realized your eyes had slid closed until they were opening in confusion at the touch of his thumb against your cheek. Against your better judgement, you leaned into the brief show of affection, lips parting to accept the pad of his finger.
You know it won’t lead to much but the small stirrings it causes is worth the brevity. You crave his closeness whether he’s away like any wife would. But loving David Allen takes the punch of out love and jackhammers a new meaning into it.
“”Thank you.”
The sincerity of it pressures your heart and your eyes close voluntarily this time, just wishing he would meet your expectation.
There is a pause, the silence tarnished by your audible sigh. Part of it is drawn back in a sharp gasp when his nose bumps against your own, then his lips find yours.
The kiss is slow and measured, familiar even as you dare to run your palms down his front. His stomach curls under your touch, the lean muscle jumping slightly as your fingers challenge the hem of his pants.
Swallowing, you taunt further with another tug. Venerability paints itself a lovely shade against your skin, coating you in a rosy blush. This wasn’t your arriving plan. But years have taught you that planning ahead rarely went well with David.
Carefully, you reach up and thumb the curve of his lower lip and draw him even closer. Even breaths waft over your face. Measured well, despite the proposition offered before him.
In a mess of tongue and teeth, you whisper his name and teeter his resolve in the same breath.
It has been a very long time since he’s humored an excursion like this and you’re patting yourself on the back for taking the chance.
His mouth teases the skin at the nape of your neck and you wonder how far he plans to take this. His nose brushes against your ear next, nuzzling just under the curve where he knows you like it best.
Your shirt rides up as he rolls his body against you, his hands quick to tend to your warm skin. His thumb teases the underside of your bra and it’s difficult not to let your mind wander.
Chest rising and falling in erratic intervals, you finally put a voice behind your desires.
“Will fuck me here?”
David breathes in sharply then and for a moment you’re worried he’ll pull back to he senses. Your heart flutters nervously, awaiting a curt dismissal. But then a knee nudges firmly between your thighs and you find yourself biting your cheek to contain your grin.
He continues to mouth at your neck while his hands answer your question, quickly and efficiently working at your belt. The hand not holding you in place slips under the hem of your pants with practiced ease.
It will have to be quick but part of the thrill is inherit in the act itself. You know you’re already wet before his fingers reach their destination, his thumb flicking against your clit as his fingers curl into your sticky wetness.
“You’d like that, wouldn’t you, kitten? That’s why you came so late at night. Hoping to bride me into a quick fuck for your troubles?”
Part of you wished that had been your intention. You would have tried a hell of a lot harder if you’d known he’d be this willing.
Sorry, Nancy.
There was always something sinfully dangerous about being taken in his office. To think the place where the city puts most of its trust will be defiled by your marital affairs will never fail to get you in the mood.
David catches you before you can get careless, moving the food a safe distance away from your body before pressing you firmer against the desk. He doesn’t pay much attention to your breast but the stimulation from being pressed into the desktop makes up for it. Nothing else matters however when he’s dragging down his pants and your own with hast movements and lining himself up.
It’s a slow sink- deep as he allows you time to open up for him.
The situation doesn’t allow for it to be drawn out much longer than that. The frivolous teasing prior had already eaten into your limited time of unsuspicion. Not to mention any concerning noises that might permeate the door.
David does the sound control for you, risking quiet grunts as he digs his grip into the curve of your hip. His pace is slow but firmly backed by his weight as he quite literally fucks the air right out of your lungs, thrust near hard enough to shake the desk.
He lifts his hips slightly, just enough too prod for the right angle, hitting that same spot again and again as you grip desperately at his arms. You return the favor, stealing his groans as you kiss back as vehemently as his hips grind into you. It only takes one good strategic thrust to capsize you under your simmering climax.
You remember a time, fumbling in college when you had to remind him to be wary- to pull out. Even early in your marriage you’d been cautious.
Now, it was welcomed. The fact of not trying to try bleeding into a kink to take off the edge of pending results. You’d decided mutually to accept a child if the possibility arose but you wouldn’t make an intentional effort.
Nearing your forties now, it wasn’t a forgotten proposition but it hardly factored into your mindset. It’s no where near innocent as your ankles dig firmly into his lower back, drawing him closet and locking him in.
Your husband’s hips stuttered briefly as his fingers reassessed their grip before he resumed his pace with firmer thrusts. Each one bouncing off the round of your backside. The hand at the base of your spine keeps you anchored- not that you’d made any attempt to disagree with anything he was giving you.
He seemed to reward you for that, a lazy thumb counting your vertebrae in its travels, eliciting a quivering pleasure.
“Maybe this is the key, huh? You’re always so much more receptive when there is the potential for audience.”
He knows and fuck, you miss that voice. The way it rumbles deep in his chest before tumbling out in timber.
“Of course, I’d never let them see. But I’d be happy to show off the results, hmm?”
His hands slid to your flank before curling around to flatten against the plane of your belly. It stays there, stroking the pseudo curve implanted in his head.
He encourages you to grind back into his quickening thrusts, the fingers at your hip dragging you back in assistance. Whining, you dip your chest and arch your back. Your actions echo your thoughts. Faster. More. Deeper. Please
“That's what you want, right? For me to fill you up, baby?”
God… you drool around the thought. Your words fumbling around gurgles as you attempt to collect yourself enough to stop moaning and properly respond. Blood rushed in your ears and floods down your body. Working yourself up from your toes, you flex them, pushing your weight to your feet and lifting. It offers you a better advantage to pushing back into each eager thrust.
Rather than praise your efforts, your husband only returns your gesture by carding his fingers through your hair. Tightening. Shoving down.
“Fuck, yes, Dav-“ You hiss when he knocks particularly hard against your cervix to which he mends with an apologetic kiss to the back of your head. His thrust slow marginally, just enough to regain control before he’s coaxing you again with a nip to the shell of your ear.
“Tell me, kitten.”
You reach for something-not sure of what. Neither does he it seems, but his hand finds yours anyway to which you curl them both the fabric of your chest.
“I want it all-please.”
He jerks you back-once...twice before suddenly you’re overwhelmed with the weight of him on top and the pressure of him inside.
You lie there for a short time, uncomfortable, but too laced by exhaustion to do much else. The feeling of fatigue crept onto you both with out warning, using the disguise of passion to worm its way inside.
He’s not perfect. Neither yourself or this marriage. But where most had doomed you both to fail, mutual perseverance told the rest to go fuck themselves.
There wasn’t much else either of you could offer to the remaining hours of the night. With that resolve, your slow rhythmic strokes against your husband’s back came to a halt, slightly rousing him in the process.
“Mhmm, come home with me, yeah?”
He heaves a sigh but you know you have him.
“Yeah. Let’s go home.”

I wasn’t joking when I said she’s not fucking around anymore. Did you think I was joking? I can see how you can get the impression given the first few episodes, but I really can’t emphasize the thoroughness of the ass kicking she is going to be capable of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“MY FATHERLY ENERGIES ARE WORKING! ADOPTERS ANONYMOUS WAS WRONG AFTER ALL!”
Tumblr media
That’s totally not ominous in the slightest.
Meanwhile, in the middle of an unnamed McMansion in the middle of who knows where...
Tumblr media
Gratuitously spoken English is heard. To be fair, it’s actually really impressive pronunciation coming from people whose native language are systemically different to ours. Most shows would just settle for “this dude is actually speaking english but everything is said in japanese for better interpretation” but not Symphogear! No siree!
Tumblr media
Relic business is afoot.
We have a random blonde lady shooting random Noise from the thing The Gremlin had in her hands.
Tumblr media
She’s really trying her best with her accent. She’s also casually shooting Noise because let’s face it, would we not do the same if it were in our hands?
Tumblr media
“i do whatever i want with my big stiff rod pal”
Tumblr media
Also, she’s a nudist. To also be fair, if you lived in a fuckoff rich McMansion with weapons beyond your comprehension, you likely couldn’t help but walk around naked doing whatever the fuck you want.
The people she’s talking to are the Americans, which we explained before are portrayed strictly in an antagonistic light. They want some relics, and this lady clearly deals them like like some sort of glorified drug dealer.
Tumblr media
Suffice it to say, she’s not a very nice person.
Also, the subs don’t match what they’re saying in English in the slightest.
The name of this woman... is Fine (pronounced fi-neh). And she is the main antagonist of this series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fucking identical.
Tumblr media
And here is the most unpleasant scene in the entire season.
Tumblr media
The person we’ve repeatedly alluded to as The Gremlin is called Yukine Chris. She serves Fine in whatever the hell they’re up to right now. In this case, it’s using the Nehushtan armor to run around with Solomon’s Cane to throw Noise around the city.
Tumblr media
“shits gonna get real abusive, pal”
Fine is a narcissistic sociopath. She’s manipulated Chris into servitude by believing she is the only one that can pave humanity into salvation.
Tumblr media
“i dont like that smile”
Chris thinks Fine can secure her deepest wish. Ironically? It’s world peace.
Tumblr media
“yeah! yeah yeah, world peace, yeah, totally. just treat me like jesus and we’re gucci”
Anyway, she proceeds to thoroughly shock Chris.
Tumblr media
The lore behind this is that this is helping her resistance with dealing with the physical demands of the Nehushtan armor, as well as deal with the pieces of Nehushtan that may be still inside. Let’s be real, though. Fine’s a sadist, and just likes hurting people willy nilly.
Tumblr media
“fuck... that hurt like shit... hey wait... wouldnt some of the electrical arcs hit you and shock you too, given you’re so naked and close to all this...?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“ya nevermind that food looks real nice and i want a piece of that fuckin turkey”
It’s a real creepy scene, and it cements Fine’s horribleness really well. One of the most pivotal things to take note is that Fine says that people can only communicate with each other universally through pain. Strong, terrible BDSM overtones notwithstanding, this will be a common (though varying in quality) motif of the entire series.
Tumblr media
“BITCH YOU THOUGHT WE WAS GUNNA EAT AFTER THAT FUCKIN’ WISECRACK ABOUT GETTING SHOCKED LIKE YOU’RE EVEN FUCKIN’ NIKOLAI TESLA ALL UP IN HERE WE’RE GONNA ELECTRIC SLIDE YOUR ASS TO NEXT WEEK”
Tumblr media
“FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK”
Tumblr media
“WHERE THE FUUUUUUUCK IS HIBIKI?!”
Tumblr media
“i was gonna invite her to the circus with the rest of the class ‘cause i felt bad about how i treated her but i guess she’s not here”
Tumblr media
“the only clown im interested in is hibiki, in the carnival tent of my own bedroom”
Tumblr media
“isn’t being a part of /fit/ great, hibiki? can you just feel the gains?”
Tumblr media
“yeah who needs doting wife based significant others when you have your gym bros, right newly acquired father figure?”
Hibiki, having acquired a new brain cell during her training, asks the million dollar question:
“Why the fuck are we relying on schoolgirls to deal with all this stuff?”
Tumblr media
“anime just be that way, hibiki. i’m just the wrong protagonist in the wrong show.”
Japan is super big on keeping the Symphogear a secret because they are strong and the world really, really wants a slice of the Symphogear pie. These people are basically walking super-weapons. Tsubasa literally dropped a sword the size of a skyscraper. It’s like the premise of the series of Iron Man films.
Tumblr media
“do i get like a superhero name too or”
Something to wrap your head around. This was released around 2012, and while the setting seems to be slightly more futuristic, the world it was made in at the time had not been through the era of social media/smartphones we have right now. It was on the cusp of doing so, which means the idea of decent (yet vertical) amateur footage of things happening wasn’t something in the mainstream yet. Why do I say this?
Because in Symphogear, the fact that Symphogear exist is the biggest open secret in this unidentified city ever. NDAs are passed like hotcakes to keep people’s mouths shut on seeing monster-fighting singing superheroes. And they sing, too! Symphogears as an entity are the most high-profile fighting agents out there. Bright colors, no masks, constant singing, fighting in broad daylight in populated areas. Everybody knows, but no one says a word.
Which means every politician on the face of Japan hates these idiots, but they’re stuck with them out of sheer necessity.
Tumblr media
“i swear to god if you bring up sam reimi’s spiderman one more goddamned time”
Tumblr media
“look it’s the truth, all anime comes back to sam reimi’s spiderman. fate zero did it. uhhh, fucking...baccano, probably? now us. face it. its pretty much the bible.”
It’s also pointed out that the very concept of a Symphogear is born from a science that didn’t exist, and it probably contributes to political frustration as well.
Tumblr media
“im going to microwave all your sam reimi spiderman dvds. im gonna do it. you try me, motherfucker. i didnt go into acting and get into this position to hear lectures about a decades old film franchise nobody cares about anymore.”
Tumblr media
“can we stop fighting about the validity of sam reimi’s spiderman for five seconds and get back to helping me thing of a dope as hell superhero name? now, lemme lay one on you: Mister Fister”
Hibiki asks where Code Ryoko is.
Tumblr media
“any answer besides Not Here works”
Tumblr media
“oh, she left to talk to the americans, why?”
Tumblr media
“huh, shes sorta late, actually”
Tumblr media
“WHY A BAD BITCH LIKE ME GOTTA GET STUCK IN TRAFFIC LIKE THIS”
Tumblr media
In the mother of all Mom Vans, no less.
MEANWHILE... IN METAPHOR LIMBO...
Tumblr media
Tsubasa has reached the sea floor of the water metaphor dimension surrounded by water, which is her feelings, which are very gay. Imagine the Mariana Trench but like, deeper. Way deeper. That’s where Tsubasa is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leave it to Kazanari “I am literally a sword” Tsubasa to successfully spin the very act of surviving a suicidal move during combat as a failure. That’s a special kind of self loathing right there.
Tumblr media
“the sheer force of my love for big ladies is keeping me alive”
Tsubasa asks about the point of Kanade’s sacrifice. Why’d she do it? Why was she so hungry at the end?
Tumblr media
She personally shows up to answer that question, because that’s Kanade for you.
Tumblr media
“being badass is cool, but you know whats cooler? caring.”
Tumblr media
“sharing the sauce... you... you shared the sauce...”
Tumblr media
“thats right, tsubasa. i wanted to protect the sauce, but... ultimately... sharing it was better. it wasn’t my sauce, tsubasa. it was everyone’s...”
Tumblr media
“im gonna suck on a ketchup packet in your memory, tsubasa”
Tumblr media
Kanade’s spirit pulls her out of the dimension of water metaphors as she is slowly undrowning from her emotions.
Tumblr media
Tsubasa, like Kanade, was lost in the sauce. But now, after Kanade’s touching peptalk, Tsubasa is lost no longer.
Tumblr media
“will i ever see you again in my dreams, kanade...?”
Tumblr media
“where there’s a sauce. i’ll be there.”
Tumblr media
“ill eat taco bell every day just to see you again kanade”
Tumblr media
“and i dont even like taco bell... im more of a chipotle girl...”
Tumblr media
After accepting Taco Bell as her lord and savior, she is immediately pulled out of the metaphor zone.
Tumblr media
And wakes the fuck up.
Tumblr media

Tales From Peter Parker: Foreign Exchange Student - The Grapes of a feather Part 1
"WHAT THE HELL AM I LOOKING AT!" A raised voice coming from Flint Marko alias the Sandman.
It's called 'anime' Marko, learn the damn culture sand for brains!" Herman Schultz alias The Shocker responded by scolding and ripping the anime case from Marko.
"So what like them cartoons in the U.S.?"
"Its so much more than that its a way of life for this country, I'm what the Japanese kids called a Weeabo!" Herman said with such a prideful tone.
"....... Da hell does that mean?"
"It means I'm a fan who enjoys the highest of quality animation." Shocker responded in a staunch stance.
"And those finer things include gauking at underage girls?"
"Don't cheapen it like that, thats a gross and misleading interpretation of the anime culture!" Herman felt insulted by Flints simplified observation of the genre.
"Plus I don't do Lolicons I'm attracted to the more firm and volumptious woman of great beauty like Oda's One Piece." Herman corrected while making vulgar hand gestures.
A short silence fell between the two, as Flint tries processing what his quilt attired allied has just uttered.
"Okay whatever youse say, The Vibrator lets get our videos and bail out already." Flint mockingly smiled as Shocker only responded by a gritted face of irritation.
At the Kiyashi Ward Shopping Center is a mall that specialize in selling various goods pertaining to a citizens body type and quirk type. But aside from selling speciality items for unique quirk users, the mall houses a variety in the entrainment medias as your standard "electronic store." Where we see now, one third of the Sinister Six members Sandman and Shocker wearing oversize tan trenchcoats in the middle of summer at the local video shop on, DVD purchases.
"Lets see we got "Godzilla 1945" for Beck, the original film, "The Ring" for Gargan, something on "the Japan's monorail system" for Toomes and nothing for Dmitri."
"Dmitri not so much a movie goer?
"Nah I just hate that Russian prick, OH HELL YEAH!" Hermans eyes popped with excitement as his sights met with his choice of DVD.
"The last copy of "Monster Museum" and its within my grasp!"
"Okay and what's, wait y'know what I do-"
Jumping away from the DVD, Herman immediately cutoff Flint to explain.
"It's a raunchy harem comedy about sexy monster girls trying to win the heart of the male protagonist tenant as he cleans up after there orgies and survives there cuddles of death." Herman with such graphic detail of the animes premise.
Many of the customers looked there way disturbed by the man in the yellow quilted suit unashamed manner and lack of censoring. The stares from customers embarrassed Flint heavily as he desperately wanted to use his powers to slink his head inside like a turtle away from prying predators. Instead all he could do was plant his face into his palms like a meme from the internet.
"What are you all looking at, scram you degen- Where's my Monster Harem?!" Cutting off his rant Herman sees a small boy with "grape hair?" making a quick dash as if his life depended on it.
"That little turd is stealing my monster harem, Flint circle around him will cut him off from the register!"
"Schultz its just a freaking cartoon!"
"Its not about the cartoon its the principal!"
"Principal of what?!" But Flints yell fell on death ears as the former linebacker sighed a heavy breath.
"Why do I even bother?" Flint thinks to himself.
Back to the boy with grape hair. Continuing to sprint with dear life as his mouth salivates he thinks to himself his almost clear.
"I'm almost at the register and than pure unadulterated smut will be mine to-"
His thoughts were interrupted as his head made collision with Flint Marko mid section sending the grape haired boy tumbling backwards in a daze. He tries to turn back only to have his chaser Herman Schultz, lifting the small teens hair by the palm of his left hand.
"Sup que ball, you have something of mine."
"Hey guy in the yellow, cushion suit?" A teen with spiky yellow hair calling out Herman confused by his clothes.
"Drop the perv he's a UA student and my best friend!"
"And if there's one thing I can't stand Kaminari its villains picking on my fellow classmates!" The red spiked hair schoolmates chimed in.
"Hey now were not looking for trouble-"
"But your little turd friend here was stealing fro- Where did he go and what the @$#% is this crap on my hand!"
Flayling his arms in panic, the sticky ball stuck to his hand would not budge as it simply jiggled from his thrashing.
"I wouldn't use your other hand if I were you unless you want to get stuck." Said Minetta with a smug tone.
"Get this crap off me!" Herman yelled at the boy.
"Oh I will, But only on one condition."
"Kid I swear if your trying to extort me I'm-"
"THATS RIGHT!! IF YOU WANT YOUR PRECIOUS HAND FREE YOU'LL FREELY ALLOW ME THE "Monster Museum" COPY!" Minetta demanded dropping his previous calm composure to that of a creature of lust.
"Dude sweet move!" Kaminari followed with a fist bump to Minnetta.
"Minetta don't you think thats a bit underhanded" Kirishima confessing his discomfort at this display of villainy.
"You little turd, we came all this way from the U.S. just to enjoy some peace." Herman walks closer to the boys.
"Than you steal from me, put this weird stuff on my hand and now you blackmail me!" The boys feel a bit a trembled as he inches in.
"Well I got one thing to say about that deal, Flint kick the crap out of these losers!
"WHAT!?" The UA perv duo said in unison.
"Pfft Hell no, I ain't gonna beat up some teens that made youse look bad."
"OH COME ON, these punks are asking for it especially that little bastard!" Herman points angrily at Minetta.
"And I told you my names Minetta if you want my sticky ball off, give m- GAHH!!" A blunt slap struck Minetta collapsing him to the floor.
The pink girls hand that struck his back head still burned from the strike.
"OW! What the Hell Mina!?
"You know what you did Minetta and as for you!" Her gaze met with Kirishima.
"I would expect Minetta and Kaminari of this, but you I thought you were better than this."
"I wanted to stop them Mina, but those two guys were bullying Minetta and-"
"And you thought bullying them for extortion was better?! Shame on you Kirishima!" Mina rubbed her fist into Kirishimas head.
"Its obvious what these guys are!"
"It is?" Herman and Flint said simoultanously as they both looked in the others direction nervously.
"The bright costume on that guy in oven mitts, the foreign accents, and that big guy in the green stripe shirt."
Hermans brow sweated intensely, his breathing erratic while Flint unable to sweat tries to inch backwards as slowly as possible.
"There Pro heroes!!" Mina proclaimed ecstatically.
"It all makes sense now, how could I be so stupid please forgive us sirs!" Said Kirishima as he bows repeatedly.
"Wait what-"
"Um yeah that's right! Were uh, undercover pro heroes is what my partner was trying to say, right Flint!" Said Herman as he tries to forcefully wink towards Flint.
Flint gives a simple shrug and a half hearted smile towards the school uniformed wearing students.
"That. Is. So. AWESOME!" The pink, horned girl exclaimed with an unyielding reserve of enthusiastic energy.
"Please let us introduce ourselves I'm Mina Ashido!"
"Eijro Kirishima!"
"Denki Kaminari!"
"And Minetta!"
"And were from Class 1A of UA High training to become Pro Heroes." Said Mina enthusiastically.
"PLUS ULTRA" The group said in unity as they poised dramatically.
A long awkward silence soon proceeded as Herman and Flint try grasping what they just witnessed.
"Umm... Okay well I'm Flint Marko and quilt man over here is Herman Schultz."
"How many times I gotta tell you Marko quit calling me Quilt man, besides (ex nay on our "hero" names)!" Herman whispering that last detail in secrecy.
"Look congrats on your whole training to be heroes but uh, Mineta right? I'm gonna need you to take this damn thing off now."
Mineta tries to look away but soon turns away as the steely gaze of Mina stares back.
"GAH! Okay fine! I'll take it off!" He begrudgingly agreed.
"So I gotta ask what are a couple of Secret pro heroes from the U.S. doing in Japan?" Kaminari questions.
"Well um, yeah see, we uhh..-"
"And why are you guys in a video store buying anime porn?" Kaminari's question continue to corner Flint.
With Shocker getting Mineta and Mina to help remove the sticky ball from his hand, Flint knew he had to dig deep to pull off an elaborate, B.S. lie that would make even Mysterio proud.
"Well ain't it obvious Pin Cushion, were staking out for any bad guy yahoos trying to uh.... rob this place so we was just trying to blend in and be all "conspicuous"
that answer your twenty questions?"
"My name is not the damn Pin Cushion! Its Kaminari you ignorant tourist!"
"Why does this kid make me want backhand him like Electro." Flint said to himself as he struggles to keep calm.
"Kaminari! You shame pro heroes every where with that disrepectable talk! Kirishima scolded.
The blonde haired boy was shaken by his classmates scornful tone, a feet he thought only the explosive Bakugou was capable of.
"Forgive my friends jerk behavior sir but if your looking for recommendations-"
"Stow it half pint, Hermans the one who's into the anima or cartoons stuff I'm looking for something with a little bit more teeth, present company excluded of course."
"My names not half pint its, Kirishima" the young man protested more annoyed by the nickname than the teeth remark.
"I got the anime that's right for you, its Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3 and I bet my entire code of manliness to convince you!"
"Manliness?"
"It's Kirishimas whole mantra of machismo don't encourage it." Kaminari explained.
"Who asked you Sparky! And as to you Kiri-shama was it, any man that puts there code on the line has my attention."
Flint held his fist high towards Kirishima.
Knowing the gesture well, Kirishima moved his arm in response to fist bump Flint in dramatic fashion.
"Did I hear explosions, Flint said to himself."
And Flint would be right for unbeknownst to the group, several armed men garbed in sophisticated helmets and harnesses storm the video shop entrance in a threatening like manner of ill intent!
TO BE CONTINUED!

Any type of Psychological science Majors?
Irrespective of the legality or morality from the death sentence, the procedure from sitting on death row, hanging around to become put to death, is exceptionally distressing. In truth, people normally shift in between numerous various personals" depending upon the conditions that they reside in. The large quantity from inconsistency in just how folks behave across situations even led social psycho therapist Walter Mischel to frankly proclaim in Individual as well as Examination (Wiley, 1968) that there is actually really no such factor" as personality, considering that people's habits vary so hugely throughout other situations.
Its own conclusion specifically, without desiring to spoil just about anything, creates a wonderful use the topographical style of individual psychological science to reveal that this really isn't constantly regarding falling via levels from buried need to some dark key, however that an ascent to the conscious portion of the thoughts may be equally upsetting when you recognize what is actually concealing underneath. Well, at least this does not inform you who the boy is, what his motivation is actually, why folks are trying to find him, why he is going to the animal (he is actually not escaping - he is actually barging in), as well as just what the creature is actually. But that does provide you some solid tips that the pursuit has something to accomplish with thoughts control as well as just what persuades a person to spring in to action. Just like the famous Stroop Test in psychological science, complying with Gitaroo Man's fast-moving patterns from buttons as well as guitar knocking places high needs on your attention and responses. This's the best well-liked major in the U.S. and the courses typically aren't really tough, that is actually why you have actually got a bunch from eye-catching bimbos. SharePoint assimilation has additionally possessed a remodeling, with simpler visualisation from SharePoint products that are affixed to mind map factors. And also is actually another reason I choose the W3 for personal listening, the bass is actually extra enjoyable. Some folks prefer to do one thing that is simpler to reside a more stress and anxiety cost-free live. Foreign language obstacles will end up being pointless as AR uses are able to precisely translate directly. Through this shift away from desktop computing, printing from mobile phones may end up being rather awkward. Torture approaches designed by Mitchell and also Jessen and inflicted on the 3 males, depending on ot the ACLU, include pounding them into wall structures, packing them inside coffin-like packages, exposing all of them to severe temperatures and blatant levels of popular music, depriving them, delivering various sort of water torture, robbing all of them from rest for days, and also binding all of them in stress and anxiety settings developed for discomfort and to maintain them awake for times on end-- all which are strategies outlined in the Us senate document. Similarly those targets are actually influenced and reeducated, electronic media performs a large range mind command venture, which starts at birth with Disney movies and also proceeds along with Hollywood flicks and music videos. Moneyball author Michael Lewis' current publication, The Undoing Task, narrates the multi-decade shift in both economics and also psychological science off of the premise that people are practically reasonable creatures in cognitive management from their choices. A research by psycho therapist Joanne Ruthsatz at Ohio State University attempted to establish the determining biological trait of natural born players. http://cosmetiques-sans-secrets.info of a video recording go to along with a psychologist is actually $FIFTY for a 25 min treatment and $95 for a 50 minute treatment. As others have claimed, having a degree will definitely create this simpler for you to obtain a work generally communicating, but to really be actually a psycho therapist you will need to head to grad school, as this is actually a highly-specialized industry. My request consequently is that more pastors would find out about these aspects of standard human psychological science. At its own soul, mind mapping-- or even webbing an idea, if you work in educational cycles-- is actually actually nothing at all over developing a free-form summary: a means from coordinating ideas as well as information without the firm, linear strictures of a typical overview, and also getting your thought and feelings adverse the page promptly without fretting about exactly where a specific idea fits into the total construct. And thats specifically just what takes place, all we ensure our team perform is actually take a readiness to find out as well as an incentive to supply to the table. These taxicabs would be on call when I wish all of them to be, no running to capture the bus which will not come again for an additional hour, and also would journey straight to where I wish, no going towards downtown first to earn a 15 min drive take a hr. http://cosmetiques-sans-secrets.info is intensified by the capability to broadcast your end results via social networking sites. I receive episodes from incapacitating ache so I believe that brokens outside the definition from constant, however this pulls regularly being actually unable to relocate without wincing in misery, and also no person appears to repossess pain very seriously as a boy which is a pisser. DZH: If you discover that individuals improve in one examination of reasoning that does not imply automatically that they're brilliant, it means that they're much better on one exam of thinking. If you have to go with the procedure from replying to a survey, and this winds up residing in your favour your pick going on sale, then there are actually actually a ton of positive sensations current, that makes that much more likely that you'll get the activity," pointed out Eklund. PHYSICIAN Jesse Schell, of Carnegie Mellon's Home entertainment Innovation Center, analyzes the psychology behind why people play.

why do you hate black mirror??
in my I Hate It chart, i don’t really care about this one all that much, but i hate it. i like the Extreme Twilight Zone format as much as everyone but in terms of a premise i never like “what if we tried to speculatively project about the future of technology’s impact and capacities, but we only did so in the realm of a What If A Phone Is………….Bad.” like yeah its totally legitimate to be like, what are the potential risks of this imagined application, but with this its like…….less commentary in the actual ways that tech is used to fuck shit up and more like, selfies are bad, reality shows are Bad, voyeurism is bad. and that could be done without like any pretense of ~The Spooky Future~ or whatever because shits fucked up now. but not coz of selfies. and any part of culture isn’t gonna be universal? like the concept of tech isnt this transcendent experience that is unaffected by constructs like gender/race/class/location………………..it feels like when people make the Future Grim Dystopia that could actually describe any number of real, current systems. but shit like 1984 is like what if this was the experience of white cishet average joe, and its like, yeah wow what if a ruling elite oppressed the working class and stamped down any attempt at opposition with the concept of universal constant surveillance and intimidation and used aggressive propaganda and warmongering in construction of a mythical ahistorical foreign Other to take the heat off of the perpetuators of this system and their benefit from the labor of a working class that is also stratified to further turn on itself. oh man, what if that were real, that would be bad. can’t believe george invented those concepts
that was an embittered tangent about 1984 and the like which is undeserved here because that book is also incredibly boring and i cant believe it has such a crappy forced hetero love story that is just fucking in the woods. just have it be fucking in the woods, not the representative of all True Human Connection. god. and then a third of it is this segue into the book within a book that stalls everything for fucking ages. pacing is shite. anyways enough about that
forget everything above and just skip to this part, maybe. i wouldnt really care if it wasnt kind of posing as this Cautionary Future Warning or whatever, because like, thats not what it is. its just going what if any kind of tech was bad, and here’s a twist probably. and then theres reducing complex tech/entertainment/social media phenomena and structures we have now into a really 2D thing. the Selfies Are Bad thing. and the twist factor grates on me hugely because making a half-plausible projection of some issue but also needing to throw in some kind of shock value aren’t really mutually cooperative. plus, it sounds like it uses violence against women like….A Lot….and for the shock value too. which is just. not good in several ways. plus, again, its just such a limited commentary to look at any trend associated with tech and say “this is vapid and harmful and leading us all to disaster” like…..things are a lot more complex than that. like what if twitter destroys our linguistic capacity. what if these motion detector hand dryers never go off and we have a new social class of damps and arids. its just…….ugh. i wouldnt have an issue really if it wasnt so god damn serious about itself. its the twilight zone + the by now really overcrowded notion that technology is scary. showing people how to be critical about things is great and fine, but thats not really what’s happening. its drama and a story, and if it ever aligns with reality, great, but so does the simpsons all of the time. there’s like…..actually people whose entire job is analyzing trends and development in the tech world and trying to make projections of what direction things will go in and what might be invented and how it might be used and how it would affect people’s lives.
tldr: its just the twilight zone, which is fine, but writers looking at tech and trying to think of how it could be harmful or dangerous and then how to put a plotline to that isn’t the same as people actually making informed analysis about the future of tech and i wish it wasn’t treated as though this show was both. and having all this bad shit happen to women as shocking and dramatic isnt something you can do and act like it happens in a vacuum. plus, i get it, what if the passage of time is relative. also, its not a good twist to say “someone repeats a horrible experience endlessly but they dont get used to it because memories are just alterable because fuck off” coz that just means from their perspective they only go through it once. if we’re going to be talking about perception so damn much
ps despite how long this is i hate a lot of stuff way more, and i’m not like, upset if someone likes it. because its a gd show and i’m not going to pretend any Take is ever objective, and also, the twilight zone and Twists are fine and fun. it’s the part where there’s trying to be taken Way Too Seriously that gets me all bitter and shit. pretensions are a pet peeve of mine severely. and it’s too easy for me to look at any random technology and try to make a grim black mirror episode about it. just be the twilight zone, except not actually as good as the twilight zone

kent parson thoughts??
oh! yes! I actually do have thoughts for what I think is going to happen with Parse in the future, so without further ado, I bring to you [MARSHALL]:
(note: reading back over this after writing it, I can confirm that this post is a Mess. Like how many times can I just ramble in parenthesis? I don’t even know. Over 15 at least. including this one. my god. STILL HERE YOU GO:)
My Idea for What Could Happen with good ole Kenny P
Okay, so something that has been mentioned but not addressed in the comic is that it was once Rumored that Jack and Kent were involved. In Parse 2, Ransom and Holster talk about how close they were, how there were rumors, how there were rumors about the rumors, and then note that there is a “trove” of Jack Zimmermann/Kent Parson fanfiction. Obviously, this is a nod towards the bigger RPF hockey ships (like… sid/geno? I don’t actually read RPF but I think thats one…)
ANYWAY, enough is made of this friendship (with a question mark/astrix) that both get asked about how they are preparing for their game against each other and then they have a pretty intense first game--
THE POINT IS: It is unclear just how far the rumors about Jack and Parson go. Is it the shippers who really believed they were together? Or was this a more widely whispered about rumor that some more “official” news sites mentioned? We really don’t know, but...
What we do know is that N has said Parse is the antagonist to Bitty’s plotline (of course I cannot find this exact quote right now but I am like 82% sure those are the exact words she uses... maybe. idk now im all turned around. did she not say this? why do i believe this to be true? oh well, for now:). Parse = Antagonist. (Note, antagonist does not necessarily mean despicable human being. Like, if you would like to see KP as that, I am not stopping you, I’m just pointing out that that is not the official definition of Antagonist and not really how I see him and my opinion has doubtless impacted my ideas.) The Antagonist has to fuck up the protagonist’s proverbial day. (Also, I’m not going to add this here but, dude, the development of the Antagonist as Totally Evil in Western Culture is really interesting! Ack, no side rants. Okay, moving on:)
SO, the more obvious route to go here is that Parse tries to break up Bitty and Jack (well, there was also the disastrous conversation at the Epikegster which some use to classify him as The Antagonist already but I am not going that far yet because, honestly, as shitty as that moment was for Jack, it did not really affect JackandBitty or the Zimbits ship. I’m assuming Year 4, we need some drama or threat of drama to the actual ship in order for KP to get Full Antagonist Status. He’s gotta fuck up Bitty’s day. Not just Jack’s).
However, in terms of: Parse tries to Openly Break Up Zimbits-- I just don’t see the comic going there. First of all, Jack and Bitty seem like Stability Personified, so I can’t even picture how this would go: Parse: Zims, leave Bitty and be with me. Jack: No. Parse: damn. Alright. *goes to listen to sad music alone* --- This is not very climactic, yet anything else would be out of character for Jack. (like Jack actually considering leaving Bitty or really anything Parse has to say would be bizzare bc even Senior-Year-Stressed Jack did not buy what Parse was selling and now Jack is Professional-Athlete-APlus-Boyfriend Jack so like… nah, don’t see it)
So basically, we need a way for Parse to be his full Antagonist Self while also being… not an Actual Comic Book Villain. And, just my opinion, I feel this cuts out “Purposefully Outing Jack Zimmermann.” It is just way over the line, doesn’t really fit with what we know of Parse (Shitty says that he was a humble guy/most of the Samwell crew likes him/he gives a very Media Answer when asked about Zimmermann), and also just doesn’t fit with the tone and world of Check Please, which I think we can all agree is fairly fluffy. Purposeful Malicious Outing just doesn’t fit.
BUT, there is a way that allows Kent to be the Antagonist, keeps him as a real person, and mayhap gives some wonderful shades of gray to the comic. And that is what I think (hope?) will happen and that is this:
Kent Parson Comes Out
Now, I don’t know the details. Or, rather, I know what I want to happen but I don’t think what I want will happen because it puts a lot of focus on Parse and that’s not what the comic is about. So let me split this into two.
Option A: Kent Parson comes out accidentally. Or, rather, there are like leaked photos of KP with another dude and in the media shit storm that follows, he comes out and it’s surface level “by choice” but everyone knows that it was a forced response to his inability to deny those pictures.
Option B: Kent Parson just decides to come out. For himself. For personal reasons. (Maybe the Aces win the Cup in Year 3 and he decides the world is ready. Maybe he is ready. Maybe-- well, you get it. The boy goes for it). (This puts less of the focus on Kent, cause this could happen in like… 2 panels. 2 or 3; unlike Option A which takes more time to be Established and all that shit).
The point is, depending on how widespread the Rumors about Jack and Kent were-- this now puts Jack into the incredibly awkward/terrible position of having to maybe answer questions about Kent or worse, Kent and himself.
Like, professional outlets would probably keep the questions to Jack at: “What do you think about Kent Parson coming out?” and/or “Did you know about Kent?” and if Jack were single at the time, he could probably keep it to “I fully support him and wish him well” and/or “Kenny and I were close friends so I did know and hope that he is happier now that he no longer has to hide” or even, “No, I did not know, but I wish him all the best and believe everyone has a place in this league.”
Less professional outlets are probably more like “PARSE IS GAY. PARSE AND ZIMMERMANN WERE BESTIES AND THERE WERE RUMORS. #RUMORSCONFIRMED!!!!!!!! ZIMMERMANN ALSO GAAAAY. ARE THEY TOGETHER????” (Like… some people believed in Parse/Zimmermann and now that they have Confirmed half the couple is gay/bi/pan, the whole ship has suddenly become That Much More Real)
Either way, all this would be Stressful even if Jack didn’t have a boyfriend but he does.
And there’s the tension of Year 4. Jack having to really actively make the decision to either come out or keep hiding. Long talks with Bitty about what this would mean for him. Bitty also having to deal with coming out to his parents. Jack’s anger at Parse for putting him in this position. Bitty’s anger at Kent for putting them in this position. (If it’s Option A, that makes this even more complicated. Like… on the one hand, they feel bad for him and this is terrible, but also, selfishly, they really fucking hate this and it’s fucking up their lives. If it was Option B, Jack is probably even more pissed).
Look, I should stop, but real talk, you could write some fucking A-plus fanfic off this premise and if this doesn’t come to pass in the comics, maybe I will have to write it because there are so many great scenes.
Anyway, in conclusion, I think this would be a cool way for KP to be the Antagonist of Check Please (in that, this leads to a situation in which Pressure is put on Bitty and Jack; not in that a person wanting to or being forced to come out makes them an “antagonist”. Obviously. I hope that is not how this post is reading at all), while still being a fully realized, human person and not just a Full Comic Book Villain. And, given the choice, I always pick “In-depth, complex, human villain” over any black-and-white situations. So... yeah. I think this could be a good story.
The End.
(Side note: I feel like this was such a Legit Theory in my head but now that I’ve typed it out, I doubt this is where the comic will actually go. Even this is still not quite the tone of Check Please. Not quite enough fluff. Unless Jack very quickly decides to come out?? eh, idk. But still! It would be something!)
(The End for real this time).

Are there any writing blogs that you follow? Is there any advice you would give to budding writers? asking for a friend
Not really, at least if I do I don’t really go through them like I probably should. I think I have a tag that is “reference” and some of those reblogged posts are for writing.
As for advice, oh geez I’m not sure I’m all too qualified, I myself am not really any more experienced than a budding writer, I’ve technically not ACTUALLY written anything in a long while. I’ll probably sound like a hypocrite. I do have some tips I’ve picked up along the way that I could share though, I guess, I just hope I can explain them properly and that they are useful and “correct” advice. I’m open for criticism, I don’t want to mislead anybody:
I say as I type out all this junk. Hopefully something of use is in here.
1. Consume media, obviously. A good way to help you get your ideas out there is seeing all the kinds of ways other people do the same, of course do more than just look. Analyze it, try to see why they do things a certain way or how they do so. Get a hang at what is expected from specific genres or mediums and how people deliver their ideas to their audience. Because this is essentially what writing (and art) is, a creator trying to deliver some kind of feeling to somebody else. (Or maybe I’m full of it, who knows)
This will also help you with learning proper grammar and formatting techniques, and I don’t mean just “proper spelling” because sometimes you need bad spelling to get a point across. Its important because goddamn, there is a huge difference between a writer who knows how to write a character in the way that character would talk in that specific situation as if it was really happening, and a writer who is only writing dialogue between two characters that they created. Also, knowing language structure is good as it lets you write what you want properly. A part in a story used to bring out suspense is written in a specific way that is different than a part that is used to bring out calmness. All this knowledge can seem basic but its useful. Basically, a creator needs to be aware of all the elements they are instilling into their creation.
2. Its alright to get inspiration from other people. I think a lot of early writers suffer from hesitation because they think “I don’t want to seem like I’m copying somebody else” or “I don’t think I’m creative enough.” Literally (nearly) every story ever written has been some kind of “copy” of another story, almost every idea thats ever existed has been talked about by somebody else. Whats important is the way YOU write it out, because THAT is the unique part of a story and what people will be coming to you for, what you need to do is get them to want YOUR perspective on pre-established ideas and to see YOUR words. Basically, don’t stress out over it too much, just get to writing it out and developing your own ideas. Also side-note, don’t be afraid to try and throw out “some wild and weird idea” out there. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new things, I guarantee* you that you’ll find an audience that appreciates its and probably always wanted to read a story that had your new “wild and weird idea”. *Note: I guarantee nothing
3. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean you should just flat out try to copy somebody else in the hopes that it will make your story better. Its easy to get the idea of using somebody’s format for your own story, but if you do it like that you really will just seem like a copycat. Its good for fanficiton however, I guess. Maybe. Just write in a way you would want to read and don’t stress over following “popular writer’s” or “my favorite writer’s” formats and using all their techniques, although it can be a helpful starting point and a useful crutch.
Likewise, don’t be afraid of using tropes if you get stuck with something, because once again the importance is not on the idea/story itself that you are trying to get across, but your own style and feelings that you are advertising. (However, from an editor’s standpoint, its also useful to write in accordance to your audience. You can write a story for yourself, for your audience, or for both. Usually both is best, as it keeps you interested and invites others to actually enjoy your work. An example is the common Shounen trope of the escalating threat/power levels, its a technique shared amongst mangakas because its useful in keeping audiences interested and progressing a story, but it can also backfire for some when it goes on for too long and becomes the main focus.)
4. Make interesting characters. Doesn’t matter how convoluted, unique, entertaining, or CRRRAAAZY you think your premise/plot is. Its certainly important, but if your characters are absolutely shit nobody is going to want to read your story because they won’t care about the characters (who are essentially the messengers/representatives for your story in the first place) or whatever happens to them. I cannot stress how important this is. Its alright if they start out “basic” but they will need to develop into something else, and try not to start off with too many.
5. The real world is ripe with inspiration. If you ever run out, look around you and think about your own experiences. Don’t be afraid to use them for ideas. Even if you don’t think you have had any interesting ones and have led a boring life, you aren’t the only one (hey-o pal-o), there is always something of use around you that can bring you ideas. Don’t be afraid to exaggerate events, as long as it makes sense (depending on what you’re writing even this might not be important), I mean it is fiction, after all. (unless you aren’t writing fiction, then good luck with that. Try writing other people’s experiences?)
6. GET AN “EDITOR” OR GET GOOD AT EDITING. Having a second opinion/somebody else who isn’t as connected to an idea as you is great for actually writing things coherently. They can let you know when something seems a little off that you might not have intended to sound off, or when your writing accidentally gives off the wrong idea/feeling, or they can just help you proofread. If you are a lonely, do not worry, you can do these things yourself as well. You just need to get good at perceiving your own work from an “outsider’s perspective” or from how you think your audience will be reading it.
Lucky number 7. Don’t give up. Write down all the ideas you have. Keep writing. Take breaks, but don’t stop. Learn to eventually share your writings, and not just keep them to yourself forever.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
Have fun?!
But no seriously, make sure you actually enjoy what you are doing. Its important to actually like writing if you are going to write, otherwise whats the point? If what you are writing is stressing you out and nothing is coming to mind, take a break and mull things over. If you have to write under a deadline, don’t be afraid to just write something down quickly, just be sure to edit it later before you actually turn it in. Then again what do I know, I’m not much of a writer myself! Feel free to disregard everything I’ve said.
BUT WAIT Also here is a link to some advice that a creator whose writing style I enjoy a lot posted, she says a lot more important things than I do in less words, http://lolitahartlessstuff.tumblr.com/post/150457696559/any-advice-for-future-writers
She also has great advice for other things if you search for “advice” on her blog, like for writing/creating VNs or random life-advice her anons ask her for some reason. Alternatively, you can search on there for “e-celebs” and do some self-study on how not to be a horrible and/or embarrassing person on the internet.

What Law Firms Can Learn from The Fortune 500
Law firm first, business second. At least that’s how it can feel when your heavy caseload makes it nearly impossible to focus on back-office operations. With li2mited time to work on the business side of things, the systems, processes, and people you put in place can mean the continued success of your practice or, in the worst case scenario, contribute to its downfall.
If you’re like many attorneys, you may only have an hour or two each week to spend on your business, so where should you begin? What should you prioritize? A few clues may be found on the Fortune 500 list. These widely respected and highly profitable companies continually invest in the following resources and tools to promote growth:
They Invest in Online Marketing
Now, we won’t sit here and tell you that you need a website. You already know that, but a new study released last month helps to shed some light on just how important it is to keep your website dynamic. The study found that 81% of those surveyed think less of a brand if its website is not updated. Also, 39% of respondents stated that they would think twice about using a product or service if the website isn’t kept current. It’s no surprise that some of the fastest growing teams in successful companies have been in the digital space (think content marketing, user experience, social media, etc).
The Takeaway: Each week commit to spending at least half an hour on your website. You might spend the time writing a new blog post or even checking Google Webmaster Tools for any sudden drops in traffic or crawl errors. Not comfortable doing either? Don’t ignore your website. Look for the right professionals to help—experience in legal marketing, impressive portfolios, and proven results are all must-have credentials.
They Use CRMs
A great website can help to bring in new leads, but it can’t close deals. That takes regular follow-up, relationship-nurturing, and excellent organizational skills which is why many companies rely on the help of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool. At the most basic level, a CRM is designed to help organizations manage interactions with prospects and clients. These platforms can help you track referral sources, efficiently manage your pipeline and even forecast your quarterly revenue. Over the past few years, a number of CRMs have been developed for busy law firms so there is no shortage of options when it comes to finding a tool to help you stay organized and boost your bottom-line.
The Takeaway: The CRM is a perfect example of a tool that most attorneys don’t learn about in law school, but really should. If you don’t yet have one in place to manage your pipeline, explore your options and make implementation an H1 goal.
They Worship Data and Rely On Reporting
During a recent strategy meeting I attended at the offices of a leading fintech provider, there was some disagreement about the best way to proceed. As the team looked to the leader of the group, he calmly replied, “show me the data and then we’ll decide.” In today’s world where data is abundant and accessible, business decisions should never be made without it. Yet this isn’t always the case in law firms, where productivity and business data can be buried in disjointed applications or legacy systems.  making quick retrieval difficult. Sometimes, the help of a third party is required.
Can you quickly pull together billable hours and realization rate by timekeeper? Are you able to see realized and unrealized revenues from matters introduced by specific referral resources? Can you pull reports like an Accounts Receivable Aging Summary, filtered by practice area or responsible attorney, in 30 seconds flat?
If you answered no to any of the above, it’s time to rethink your reporting options and seek a new solution that helps you get to your data faster so you can make better decisions. To ensure you can see productivity reports in addition to the standard accounting data, look for an end-to-end practice management solution with a built-in CRM, timekeeping and comprehensive accounting tools.
The Takeaway: What isn’t measured can’t be improved. Take some time to identify gaps in your firm’s data. Which numbers can’t you access on your own? What data would have been helpful to you in the past year? Once you have your list of non-negotiables, set out to find a practice management solution that makes data accessible to all of your firm’s stakeholders with the touch of a button.
They Prioritize Accessibility and Flexibility
With a workforce that is demanding more flexibility, a long list of Fortune 500 companies have invested in making their systems and software accessible from anywhere in the world. Law firms have been slower to embrace remote access, and the solutions that have been adopted (remoting into your office desktop, for example) aren’t ideal. To ensure that you have access to all of your cases and business data, you need to embrace the cloud.
The Takeaway: The cloud isn’t something to fear. Look for a cloud-based practice management solution that allows you to access all of your matters, contacts, emails, and documents from your cell phone or another office.
They Are Proactive About Cyber Security
Last year alone, we saw a long list of industry giants, including Starwood, Facebook and Under Armour, fall victim to massive data breaches. These incidents not only harm a brand’s reputation, but they can also seriously affect its bottom line, which is why companies are doubling down on their teams and systems dedicated to protecting data. Law firms are also at risk and far too many have been slow to rise to the challenge.
Now I realize that few attorneys can be expected to become cybersecurity experts; all, however, should understand the threats and have a basic understanding of where their data is stored and what their vendors (IT consultants and/or third-party software providers) are doing to keep their data safe.
The Takeaway: When it comes to cybersecurity, your firm can’t afford to be reactive, it must be proactive. With so much information stored in your practice management software, be sure to start there. If you have on-premise servers, how often are they updated and monitored for threats? What happens if there is a flood in your office that damages the server? With so many threats and constantly evolving technologies to contend with, you might consider hiring an expert to perform regular security audits
Cloud-based solutions also present unique challenges and you’ll want to ask any vendor about their disaster recovery plan and where their servers are located. Also, inquire about redundancy, brute force attack countermeasures and make sure all of your documents, and critical data, are encrypted. Complete audits, by cybersecurity experts, should be performed on a regular basis to ensure ongoing best-practices are in place for all of your systems.
