The Radius Project : Researching ‘The Statue of Quimper’
I did some research on the statue and gained some knowledge and story behind the statue Rowan Gillespie created. Including some cut outs of glass work to figure out if I can think of a concept relating to the statue.
Hours later I thought of a concept to create a statue of a dancer to match the woman holding the tambourine. To have both individuals blend and harmonise through music I want to create that effect on how both cities also live in harmony and tranquility.

The Famine Statues can be found along the Custom House Quay. Unveiled in 1997, this memorial commemorates the victims of the Great Famine of the mid-19th century in which 1 million died and 1 million more emigrated. This blow to Irish population had a profound effect on Irish society and is blamed on the failure of the potato crop, the stable died of many poor Irish during the 1840's
The statues were designed and crafted by Rowan Gillespie, renowned Dublin sculptor.
