Sometimes I get the feeling that people in this fandom don’t understand the meaning of an oath.
The Asoiaf world may be fantasy, but it is still based on real-life medieval setting.
In European medieval times, the values of the Church were held in high regard, and a person’s word actually meant something. When someone made a promise/an oath, especially a noble, it was expected of that person to honor it. Failure to do so resulted in dire consequences.
It’s not like it is now in modern 21st century, when everyone makes promises they end up breaking eventually and it’s like *shrug* “oh well, too bad” and no consequences follow.
So, when the Lords of the Realm swore oaths to uphold the ascension of Rhaenyra Targaryen on the Iron Throne, they were not at all “stale” or “meaningless”, as Otto Hightower tries to argue (that’s modern mentality and kind of poor writing on the part of the showrunners). It’s a pledge made in the name of a House.
And just because some of the Lords who swore those oaths died, that doesn’t mean that those oaths died with them (as the Lannisters, who have no honor whatsoever, try to argue). The oaths were made on behalf of Houses, not individuals, and therefore, the Houses as a whole were expected to respect them.
The reason Rhaenyra Targaryen had most of the Realm on her side is because the majority of Westerosi Houses understand the meaning of an oath. They also acknowledge that with the absence of an actual succession law, Rhaenyra Targaryen is the rightful Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

I'm never going to forget this btw. It's on Ang to decide if they deserve forgiveness or not, but since they show no remorse for their actions: I doubt they do. I've been talking about this situation for years. At the very least people in the industry should be warned that Holly Disch and Jay Goldstein were happy to get a human being killed over cartoons.

The Hightower Targs really started a whole ass civil war just for every single one of them to die and Rhaenyra’s son to inherit the throne anyway.

A crazy idea- what if Aemond crowns Helaena when he becomes the regent? After all even as a kid, he believed she would be the queen
Hello!
I think this is a very cool idea and I came to the same conclusion too!
Helaena's coronation scene is important and I don't think it was cut, I think it was moved to season 2. I believe in this, I wrote about it.
I think Aemond will crown Helaena, or they will be crowned together. This means Helaena will get more character development. Perhaps Aemond would leave King's Landing to her and fly on a Vhagar to take revenge on Daemon.
Remember Ewan, when he was in CCXP2023, during an interview he chose Helaena as the coin master and said: “She is good with books and money” How does he know? Was that a spoiler?

Empress Matilda — Rhaenyra’s Historical Parallel
“We can think of Empress Matilda as the fierce nearly Norman queen, who battled her cousin Stephen and the sexism of medieval England for 19 long years, during a period described as ‘The Anarchy’. Basing her campaign in Oxford, Matilda battled, sieged, and even made an elaborate escape during her enduring efforts to claim the English throne.
Matilda would have been the first English Queen to rule in her own right, had she been crowned in 1141. She was the first woman to be named as heir to the English throne and she fought fiercely for her succession. As it happened, England wouldn’t see a queen for another 400 years.” — Museum of Oxford

Maybe I'm the dumb one or whatever, but ... I like Anakin because he's the worst.
I know some of y'all really love him for reasons and for some of you those reasons mostly just involve doing a bunch of insane mental gymnastics to somehow "justify" his heinous af choices (i.e. trying to blame the Jedi for literally every dumb little thing he did, but whatever).
But, guys ... come the fuck on. The reason Anakin's such a great character (please note I said *character,* not a *person*) is because he's a selfish piece of shit that ruined the lives of everyone he loved and then made the entire galaxy suffer for his mistakes.
My guy, that is tragedy and hubris at its fucking finest. That is some A-grade quality shit right there.
I'm really starting to doubt if some of y'all have ever read/experienced a piece of media where the main character isn't a paragon of all things good and moral. You don't have to flip over backwards to justify liking a villain.
Personally, I never want Anakin to change. I want him to keep making shit choices, I want him to keep hurting people and being a selfish butthurt dictator prick. I like that he's a piece of shit that abused the trust that his loved ones put in him because it fucking hurts to see him become the monster he is.
It hurts to see a character you care so much about actively making the choice to turn themselves into their absolute worst. It's downright heartbreaking to see them hurt their loved ones and it's all the more tragic when their love transforms into selfish obsession and possession.
Yes, Palpatine did manipulate Anakin. BUT-Anakin still made the choice to kill Mace, to burn down the Jedi Temple, to rob the 501st of their autonomy (something a former slave should never have been okay with btw), forced his men to participate in killing fucking children, killed his own wife and endangered the lives of his own unborn children, attacked and attempted to kill his brother/father figure, and then continued to subjugate and destroy the lives of millions, if not outright billions for nearly two whole decades.
(He also tortured his son and daughter, their friends, their allies, etc. And like ... maimed his own son 'cause like why the fuck not? Fuck, I haven't even gone into detail about the absolute horror he put Obi-wan and Ahsoka through. Fuck me).
Anakin is the worst. And he's an amazing character. Both of these facts can exist at the same time.
Tldr: y'all are really out here acting like Anakin wasn't a big boy who didn't make big boy choices. Let him be a prick.

Weirdly curious why HOTD/GOT fandoms* seem to think that if you like Rhaenyra, you automatically like Daenerys, and if you like Sansa, you automatically like Alicent. I love Sansa. I think she had the best character arc out of everyone on GOT & truly deserves recognition for growing and learning as a character. I despise Alicent. She spends 10 years tormenting her former bestie and refuses to see her father is a self-serving jerk who manipulated her against Rhaenyra, causing Alicent to become an equally shitty parent, manipulating her own children against their sister. If it’s not obvious, I’m a huge fan of Rhaenyra. Despite her (considerable) flaws, she’s a loving mother and daughter & would make an amazing Queen (since she’s been trained for it since childhood). I used to like Daenerys, but her later behavior (even before S8) completely changed my perception of her. After awhile, she began to believe she is owed obedience and loyalty just because of her family. While this argument could also be made against Rhaenyra, she never believed she was owed the Iron Throne and honestly seemed happiest at Dragonstone w Daemon and their delightful, blended family. She accepts the crown because it’s what her father wanted, but you never truly see Rhaenyra expecting blind obedience from people, while Daenerys is offended when she isn’t given automatic loyalty. Anyway, this was my very brief rant concerning this weird fandom situation & the strange assumption that those who like Sansa must like Alicent & those who like Rhaenyra must like Daenerys. Despite some interesting parallels, they’re four VERY different women, who each add something interesting to their respective shows.
EDIT: Maybe this is just my utter frustration at trying to have civilized conversations online, but if you’re a dick in the comments, I will block you. This is a rule I have across all social media platforms. It is not worth the energy or anxiety to argue with people when they’re clearly just looking for a fight. Since I’ve only recently started using Tumblr (despite having an account for a decade; thanks, porn bots, for forcing me to make a real page), I had hoped it would be different than Twitter or Instagram, where people can be wildly toxic. Guess I was wrong.
*Strictly TV fandoms, as I haven’t read any GRRM & refuse to wade into those hurricane-tossed waters

WTF ?!
Rhaenyra had no choice but to marry Laenor ! Viserys vetoed this in episode 4 ! It was an arranged marriage that was imposed on her !
Did this person even watch the show ?! Or rather as she likes to say, did she watch the show with her eyes closed ?!
They were forced to marry, but the agreement was made that once their duty was done, namely to provide an heir to the kingdom, they could sexually do whatever they wanted !
Unfortunately, they tried to have children, but were unsuccessful. So Rhaenyra turned to Harwin for agreement with Laenor.
That's what happened.
My god, the Green stans are pathetic, on top of being disgusting.
I'm hallucinating. This person is really twisted.
As Rhaenyra would say :
Exhausting wasn't it ? Hiding beneath of your own righteousness !

TG argument that doesn’t stand: “Alicent deserves to have her blood on the throne after all she’s been through.”
First of all, she hasn’t been through anything. She loves to victimize herself after she has been touched by the Gods and a crown was put on her undeserving head. She was not even the daughter of the Lord of Hightower, only of the second son of a non-Paramount House, and yet she became queen. Not to mention that she had children of royal blood who had been given many privileges: comfort, good food, riches, education, combat training, a secured future etc. She doesn’t have any right to complain.
Secondly, what about Queen Aemma Arryn? She has been through a lot. Unlike Alicent, she was a gracious and kind queen who never harmed anyone. Unlike Alicent, Aemma had class (a true child of Lord Rodrick Arryn and Princess Daella Targaryen).
She had many miscarriages and stillbirths throughout her life and her only child was the Realm’s Delight, Rhaenyra Targaryen, the most beautiful maiden in the Realm & the youngest dragonrider in history.
Who is more deserving to have her bloodline continue? The ungrateful and traitorous upstart who committed high treason and started a war by placing her son on the throne, or the gentle queen consort whose only crime was not giving the Realm a son?
GRRM answered that when he arranged for the demise of all of Alicent’s children and grandchildren, while the bloodline of the Realm’s Delight/the Dragon Queen prevailed.

the level of just... I don't want to be rude, but stupidity that just consumes this whole idea, I don't even know where to fucking start.
like what? what is this? some random person on the internet in the 20th century being a bastard is vastly different than 3 princes of the realm, son's of the heir, from a fantasy show/universe that can't be compared on a timeline, since its y'know, fictional and takes place in a fictional timeline, but most things point it being vaguely 12th century based. its not some fucking gotcha, like yup a lot of people nowadays are born out of wedlock, myself included, that totally nullifies any and all consequences of being a royal bastard at a time when being a bastard was literally a death sentence...
like what else should I say? this is just so nonsensical, I can't even come up with a response.
it's really tiring seeing TB fans strip the context and nuance from literally every scenario ever. like it was never really about them being bastards, it was about them being bastard prince's, that were still being pushed as legitimate heirs to not one, but two thrones, and were an active threats to multiple children (Alicent's children. Baela and Rhaena, cause if they hadn't been betrothed to Jace and Luke, which is a death sentence in its own right, would have to be taken out of the picture to secure the boy's reigns. their own legitimate siblings.), and the fact that its literal treason committed by the heir to the throne, who then did whatever it took to defend her lies, no matter who it hurt... like yes, people were mad that they were the bastard, but it was definitely influenced by all of the context surrounding it.
then there's the comments, which... jesus... these are my favs (warning, they're somehow more nonsensical):
Tumblr media
so first off, we have this one, which, the logic is so far out the window I don't even think any amount of logical response can touch it. bastards are, by definition "a child born to parents who are not married to each other" which doesn't describe Alicent's children at all. just because they don't meet your weird, blood purity, eugenics type bullshit standards, doesn't make them bastards, it just makes you dense.
Tumblr media
and then there's this one. just because it wasn't shoved down your throat so hard you can't even attempt to refute it, like it was in the show, in the books, doesn't mean it wasn't there, and doesn't mean its not true, your head just permanently takes residence in your ass. they were most definitely bastards in the books, they just showed it instead of told it, unlike the show that told you outright that they were.
I just want one day where TikTok doesn't give me a stroke, cause this damn near put me over the edge.

Aemond the Unburnt
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Those closest to the dragons did not live to tell the tale. Those farther off could not see for the flame and smoke. It was hours before the fires guttered out. But from those ashes, only Vhagar rose unharmed”
Since childhood Aemond has not been afraid of dragons or dragon fire. He visited the dragons several times in Dragon lair.
Aemond was the only one who participated in the dragon battles and was not harmed by the dragon flames and was not burned by the fire.
Aemond may indeed be the only unburnable in Dance of the Dragons.
