Could you share some Shisui hc, if you have any, pls?
Tumblr media
On one hand; Shisui is ruthless when it comes to working for the Uchiha. He doesn’t care about pleases of mercy, agonizing screams, he’s not squeamish about blood, etc.
He’d only be dealing with them in that manner if the royally fucked up, so the blame is on them in his opinion
And on the other; he’s all smiles and jokes. No one really knows what to make of him
While everyone one is playing checkers, Shisui has been playing chess since he was 10.
Madara had all the money and power, so he plotted his own adoption by the leader of the Uchiha. Taking knife to the gut defending him was a small price to pay for opening the golden doors of opportunity
And although he admires Madara, he’s never truly seen him as his father. Just the boss he respects and wants the job of
He encouraged Obito to focus on going pro for both their benefits one less person for him to compete with and the sweet idiot would be less likely to die and break his heart as a pro fighter than sticking with the “business”
Kakashi’s the one that did his tattoo piece. He could’ve gone to Minato like all the others, but Minato wanted to be a family man and Kashi can’t kick out the guy that’s brought him so much business since completing his piece
He told the Uchiha’s to let Rin into Obito’s room after his accident for Obito’s benefit after he realized who she was
He introduced Toneri to Hinata in a way she’d think she made the connection herself for the Hyuga/herself. This made his business with her a little more pleasant as she’d be in a lighter mood.
He looks out for Hanabi because very few people outside of Neji and Hinata do. Plus babysitting her is the only way Hinata will give him deals.
Bonus that Hanabi talks too much and spills names and locations of the grown people that owe him money
Is very friendly with Sakura because he has a feeling Tsunade will sway her into finishing medical school and who doesn’t need a good reputable doctor
tried to be cool with Sasuke for his own benefit. If he is going to run things one day, he’d like to at least know something about the kid Sakura and Itachi’s lips are sealed
He uses Chiha’s love of money to bribe her to croon his men. He knows quite a few of them are interested in the little Uzumaki and if they’ve been good, why not reward them with her lovely presence
She really only agrees because Shisui has a strict respect the entertainer policy and he pays her a lot
Michi marrying Neji was not in in plans and he didn’t like that he probably would’ve paired her with Sasuke to build a better connection for himself there. Hot Sauce doesn’t do new friends, but he can still work her marriage to his favor
Despite his ulterior motives, he does care about the people in his life. He just wants what he wants and has a bad habit of treating others as NPCs and pawns.
Itachi is his competition; but he’s also his one good friend. So he’s keeping their foght for leader clean. Even Hana is off limits for Itachi
They often do interrogations together for maximum effect and clean up
See he can play nice?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he loves kkobri’s kids. Even if his presence has to be “approved” first, he likes seeing their little faces and buying them gifts.
Makes him think he might want his own minions one day. But business first 🤧
Uchiha manwhore leaving broken hearts everywhere because he doesn’t play favorites and has no interest in settling down
Very flirtatious and playful outside of work
He’s never failed to complete a task
Actually a picky eater and embraced about it
He still maintains a respected and feared place within the Uchiha. Which many believe would make him a good leader in the future as planned
His nicer moments to strangers are the ones when he’s helping the down-trotten. He has a whole apartment complex that’s simply “pay what you can” for rent he covers the property tax of the building by inflating the price of the people with money he doesn’t like
Owning all the real estate that he does give him freedom to move himself and founds around freely
His main residence is also home to a lot of his men and weapons collection penthouse life
His weakness lies in his past, which he keeps guarded
His parents went out of their way to help others and when he does the same, he can almost imagine their happy faces
he has paranoia about footsteps in stairwells. They’re the perfect trap that’s how his parents were ambushed
The only one who’s ever noticed his unease with stairwells was Itachi, but Shisui tried to play it off
1000/10 he’s planning and plotting.

hey, uno! hope you're doing well. i just have like a hypothetical question bcs i reread tatara recently i'm curious...
so we know you plan to make tatara the next clan head, but let's just say that doesn't happen. everything goes like it does in the show with all the coup d'etat and massacre mess, and obviously if that happens i have a feeling tatara will definitely face itachi in a fight, so how would that go? like, what would her thoughts be as she fights against this boy she literally watched growing from a baby to how he is now? i don't know why but this scenario played a lot in my mind especially when i read the scenes that include tatara and baby itachi.
OMG TATARA STOPPPP
i've actually been talking about tatara recently with a friend with much much enthusiasm and hope that i'm gonna have the time and inspiration to rewrite it. (because i recently reread tatara too and i was so embarrassed with most things there.)
tatara in canon!massacre would be absolutely devastated. i remember writing a few foreshadowings for what would happen if that really happened, specifically about itachi's possible detachment from the clan, and there's really nothing more to say than she would feel very, very betrayed. tatara always blamed herself for her prejudices before itachi was born because of her feelings towards mikoto and she always thought she was the problem in the equation, so finding out that it was never really her that was the problem but actually itachi would tear her up. she would never doubt a clansmen like that and considering that lots of uchiha prior the day of the massacre already suspected itachi, she would've had been one of the people who defended itachi.
tatara's story grows more complicated tbh especially with shisui but it just worsens the situation of the massacre and shisui and itachi's "betrayal". but at the same time, she would've been pro-coup. though, an uchiha's weakness, at the end of the day, is their love, and i can't imagine tatara cutting down itachi. their story grows very very complex with shisui thrown into the mix, but the point is: tatara wouldn't have fought itachi nor would she have killed him.
but tbh, tatara would've been one of the first people itachi would've killed because it would be better for itachi if tatara never realized he was killing the other uchiha.

Have you ever considered team Taka (Hebi) as a Polycule? (with or without Sasuke your choice)
Also,
What are your thoughts on them and do you think canon did them right, if not what do you think should've happened to them?
I've always loved their dynamic as a team, esp considering they've all been wronged by the ninja world and have that mutual understanding, respect and loyalty.
Hi anon,
I am generally pro-"teams become polycules" but I've never really thought about it for Taka in particular. I generally think of Sasuke as very uninterested in romance/sex and struggling with recognizing his own capacity for love, and while I used to think Suigetsu/Karin was cute, I don't think canon ever really developed them as friends/teammates or as individuals enough for me to maintain interest in the ship. I can get on board with every member of Taka being low-key in love with Sasuke, but while I do think Sasuke cares deeply about each of them underneath all his Sasuke-ness, I also think Sasuke would struggle to date one person, let alone three? So I think you could do KarinSuigetsuJuugo on the basis of "we all made the huge mistake of following sasuke into hell and now we're bonded by that mutual goal + how bad of a roadtrip that was." the full Taka OT4 could work too but it would be... a very slow burn with a lot of everyone working through their own screwed up feelings first lmao.
(they have to make a powerpoint presentation to explain it to sasuke. he's like "you're what?" and karin is like "I LITERALLY TOLD YOU MULTIPLE TIMES I LOVE YOU" and sasuke is like "but that's just how girls are??" meanwhile suigetsu is like "HOW COULD I BE MORE BLATANT THAN CARESSING YOUR FACE WHILE NAKED" and Juugo is very anxiously petting a bird)
Thematically each member of Team Taka represents someone who was royally screwed over by the shinobi system in new and unique ways, but the manga drops the ball on really exploring that with any of the non-Sasuke members. I do think letting them be a little more complex and fleshed out would have made Sasuke's eventual rampage seem more justified/understandable... idk what i'd do with them during the war arc but i think a cool option would have been to let itachi meet the whole team, since he sort of appears out of nowhere to be like WHAT IF WE WERE PRO-ESTABLISHMENT INSTEAD? and someone needed to tell him to shut up. or i guess i can stop being an itachi stan on main and say they probably should have had a talk with naruto "i will be hokage" uzumaki about their perspectives on their villages' abuse
as for their post-canon lives... idk, it seems sort of counterintuitive for any of them to have gone back to orochimaru but at the same time i kind of dig soccer mom orochimaru LMAO. i'm not 100% sure what else i'd do with them, except maybe have them accompany sasuke on his redemption journey? for fic reasons i think it'd be fun to have karin move to konoha to let naruto bother her, but if tasked with rewriting canon, i'd want her to take with suigetsu and juugo and it's less satisfying for those two to end up in konoha lol

Biggest wasted potential in Naruto
Killing off Zabuza and Haku. Like come on. Zabuza could’ve either went on to become a Jonin at Konoha and fought against Kisame, or if Haku were alive. Zabuza and Haku would’ve eventually become powerful enough to pull a successful coup and otherthrow Obito’s puppet and Zabuza would become Mizukage with Haku by his side. Naruto could’ve inspired to turn the Hidden Mist into being better, Naruto did get to Zabuza’s heart so it is possible, it worked for Gaara and it damn well could’ve worked with Zabuza. And we could have Zabuza and Haku taking on the entire Swordsmen of the hidden Mist. We could’ve also gotten Haku finding out more about his clan and becoming more powerful in his abilities. We could’ve seen feats in his powers far more powerful than the demon ice mirrors.
The Hyuga Clan. Building up the Hyuga Clan as one of the strongest clans  in the first half and barely using them to the point where they are underdeveloped and barely acknowledge the Byakugan. Remember when the Byakugan was supposed to be more powerful than the sharingan (and the sharingan was originally derived from the byakugan)? Such a powerful blood trait that the main branch of the clan would enslave the side branches to keep it safe? Yeah that went out the window pretty quickly.
The White Fang. Kakashi's father who is even more famous and powerfull than Kakashi. Who is at least famous as The Sannin. The White Fang of Konoha. There are no games, no Gaiden, movie or anything about him. We could’ve seen The White Fang brought back to fight against Kakashi and Kakashi could’ve been brought closure. It’s a damn shame.
Shino. Shino Aburame was the strongest Genin and he was the most myterious one and one the coolest among all Genins. He was as smart as Shikimaru, skilled as Sasuke and resilient as Neji. He is from one of the noble clans of Konohagakure and Clan Leader's son. After shippuden he completely ignored and only seeing in filler episodes. Even Akamaru and Tonton has more screen time than Shino. And making Shino a Chunnin as Class Teacher at the end? Shino should be a wanderer, a researcher, a S-Class Jonin as sensor or a duty at central intelligence.
The fact that we never learn anything about Konohamaru’s parents. Could they have just been Jonin or Anbu or Ninjas who died in the Kyuubi attack? We will never know.
Kurenai. Youngest of the 4 Leader Jonin of Konoha. Even at her young age she is stated as roughly equal to other senseis’ such as Gai, Kakashi and Asuma. Her genjutsu was so powerful, she was good enough to stunt instantly a guy like Kisame with her fundamental genjutsu and also she was good at breaking Itachi's genjutsu by her own. Where would this go from here? Who from the Akatsuki will she face? What role will she play in the war? And she’s reduced to Asuma’s love interest and made pregnant for the rest of the series. We don’t even see if she was replaced and see if Team 8 even got a new Sensei. We don’t even see Kurenai interact with Hinata, Kiba or Shino. Literally no interaction between any of her students. Kurenai deserved so much better.
Tenten. Tenten was the only one not interested in boys. Tenten is the only girl who has a big ideal goal. And that is "Becoming a great kunoichi just like her role model Great Sannin Tsunade" Compared to Sakura, Ino, Temari and Karin, Tenten was the only Kunoichi who got the least amount of screen time. And why is that? Kishimoto didn't wanna write any self-reliant teenage girl.
Uzumaki Clan. Not having Naruto use his clan’s powerful sealing abilities in the war. Hell, we REALLY could’ve learned more about the Uzumaki Clan from Karin. Karin would have been a great opportunity to be the one who lets us know what the clan was really like. This could’ve made Sasukarin work cause both clans being restored really would’ve worked. Like we have both Nagato and Karin and we never learn anything about the Clan from either of them. How do you not use your main character’s clan???  Hell, Naruto could’ve used what he inherited from Kushina to seal away Madara before Madara could possess Obito to bring him back.
Hinata. If there was a picture in front of the definition of wasted—Hinata would be there. Hinata started to become one of my favorites during her fight with Neji. Kishimoto never really utilized Hinata Hyuga in any real manner. The only times she stood out was when the plot needed advancement. Usually, during a high intense, emotional situation. Hinata outside of extreme life or death moments…is static and seemingly inconsequential. Her existance never affected anything, whether she was living or dead…it wouldn’t of changed a thing. Hinata’s popularity rose, because of her love and obsession w/ the main character. She became a “underdog” in theory, because here’s this shy girl, disowned by her clan, and basically kicked to the curb like yesterdays garbage. The cousin that was raised to protect her—HATED—her and she was cute, pathetic, and terribly shy. Quite a few fans gravitated towards this character, because of these events. The terrible tragedy that was Hinata Hyuga evoked pity, the fulfillment of her dreams, and fans who in some cases sympathized or viewed shades of themselves in this shy gal. Unfortunately, as a by-product…most fans simultaneously used the tragic backdrop and her position of birth right in order to create this image of a “Tragic Princess”. Hinata was elevated not because of merit or depth, but for representing a figure that could be shaped into something that resembled very little of her original form. Hinata lost any potential real development or sovereignty to become one half of a pair, a princess, and a damsal in distress. She became a caricature. It’s rare to see fan art portraying her as the Hyuga head, a keen leader in her own right or as a mature woman, NOT infantilized or glorified for being somebodies or Naruto’s waifu. Most of this characters identity is tied and overshadowed by her love interest. Hinata is a dreamy character that looses tremendous glamour when gazed at objectively. To be truthful, Hinata never really had an identity, nor was she allowed to naturally build up one on her own. Kishimoto undercut her severely in that department. Hinata could’ve been something fantastic! She could’ve grown to be discarded by her clan and viewed as the lesser child, to growing to improving herself and become equals with Neji and grow to move past her crush/obsession with Naruto to both Neji and Hinata becoming the heads of their respective branches and changing the Hyuga Clan together. Hinata, in my opinion was never a strong character physically. Sure she could fight to defend herself, and she had the Byakugan. Yet despite that…she’s just one of many Hyuga. Hinata isn’t nor was she ever a spectacular fighter in her own right. Quite often she was overwhelmed and fatigued easily. In battle she failed, but if given a real voice. She could’ve been influential and endearing in a completely different way. This girl is the odd one out in her family, weak and soft, but despite all of that….Hinata has heart. The traits she expressed, while rarely separated from “N-Naruto-kun” is that of hesitancy, shyness, ineptitude, a rare softness that could easily be kind, but also bloom into complete indifference, selfishness and a one track mind. Hinata is caring until she goes cold. Specific traits like her indifference, selfishness, and complete apathy to another’s situation seem to stem from general Hyuga decorum and behavior. To be apart of such a clan…these traits would be needed to endure the cruelty, tragedies, and fear that hide behind the poshly royal exterior. The Hyuga are about saving face and Hinata is a pro at hiding her own. I think, Kishimoto could’ve shown Hinata at war w/ herself, her clan and the life expected of her in general. She’d be someone w/ an active inner life, but pretty much a dead fish on the outside. The fans would’ve seen a shy female stalking a boy in order to relieve herself of her woes and worries. To forget for a while. Naruto w/o ever knowing it could’ve been a catalyst for a far stronger transformation w/ future implications. We should’ve seen her gradually change shyness into reserve, hesitancy into patience, unprotected softness into emotional strength, and her indifference into engagement. This character could’ve been a nice counter-balance to the constant might makes right scenarios. Hinata shown doing anything other than stalking, obsessing, and worrying over Naruto would’ve been amazing. I’d rather see her slowly, but surely altering the views of the clan by maturely engaging w/ them in a holistic way. By showing having a heart and being aware of others in a intimate nature was not weakness. She’d develop tenacity, a spine and voice her concerns gradually. Linking and working w/ Neji who serves as a teacher in more ways than one, but who also becomes a student, because Hinata in her peculiar way teaches him a thing or two. To see them both mingle and wind themselves through the complexities of the Hyuga clan. Working to attempt change. To simply see Hinata become a better sister. One who shows Hanabi through self sacrifice and unconditional love a different way. Hanabi may detest Hinata’s weakness, because she’s been brought up the traditional Hyuga way. Or even flashbacks of Hinata’s mother…who I feel she’d miss dearly and would’ve had a closer relationship to. Someone which whom she truly felt safe and cherished by. To portray generational cycles through a feminine scope. One of submission, bondage and freedom. “The Hyuga women are like water…we take the shape of whatever container we’re put into.” —Quote from Lady Hyuga, Hinata’s mother Lastly, in fanfiction, Hinata is actually portrayed in ways she should’ve been. For those writers who truly cared for THE CHARACTER and not the waifu…I give props. They present a slow to smile, pearly-lilac eyed women who’s reserved, a wallflower and damn impressive. Hinata always seems to carry a hint of bittersweetness. People ruined all of her wonderful possibilities by keeping her static and a princess. Hinata thrives in difficult times. She blooms when rough roads are ahead and she’s sacrificial….even to her own detriment. In order for her to move on…to become something golden…Hinata has to give up on certain things. This is often true in well written stories concerning her. The obsession for Naruto is only meant to last to a point. Just enough to begin to reveal who Hinata Hyuga really is. To stay pass it’s welcome—means she’ll be forgotten once again…even if the dream unfolded and she got her wish…as canon portrays. Little Hinata Hyuga will be ignored, unknown, and relegated to washing dishes and dusting shelves; as someone else lives out their dreams at her expense.
Lee and Neji being shafted and Neji being killed to justify a ship. The fact we never got to see Sasuke and Neji fight in either the Chunin Exams or in Shippuden is downright insulting. Rock Lee is one of the greatest characters in Naruto, period. He has a great origin story, great setting, very emotional and passionate bonds with others. He had the best fights against Gaara and Kimmimaru and kicked Sasuke’s sorry ass. Then, Kishimoto decided not to develop anyone who didn’t have a Sharingan, not on Team 7 or  Formation Ino–Shika–Chō. We never able to see Rock Lee's development his rough journey to fullfil his ninja way. We don’t even get to see a friendly match between Lee and Neji to show that Lee has FINALLY surpassed his rival or even show Lee fight Sasuke. Such a shame that a fan favorite was wasted. And, no I am not done bitching about Neji. Neji was a perfect candidate for who is gonna build up new Konoha Village and Shibobi System with Naruto as the head of Hyuga Clan. Cuz this is the deal between that promised by 'em long way ago. Neji is the only prodigy type character who died so easily. He has a great history and origin story and has a great bond with Naruto. Naruto once said "when ım gonna become hokage ım gonna chance Hyuga and ım gonna get rid off from family branches and you will be the leader of hyuga" That was the promise of the series. Neji stated even better prodigy than Sasuke. Neji was the most potentially skilled person and Neji had a real bond and story with protagonist. And we never able to saw his development. He never faced with Akatsuki....seriously? His dad came back, but didn’t have any scene with his son???? We could’ve even had Neji and Lee teaming up against Sasuke. Lee and Neji deserved so much better.
Dosu. He was so damn cool and it was such a waste that he was killed off so soon. He could’ve been by Orochimaru and Kabuto’s side. You could’ve even had Dosu become so damn powerful enough that Dosu replaces Kimmimaru as part of the Sound 5. Hell, just keep Team Dosu alive. Dosu, Zaku and Kin should have lived and become apart of Team Hebi/Taka with Sasuke, Karin, and Jugo(in the case of Zabuza living, Suigetsu is not needed) Zaku could’ve gotten past his ego and learn to use his abilities better. Kin could have been developed more and improve her abilities and Dosu could’ve been an untapped powder keg. Team Dosu could’ve been Sasuke’s strongest allies.
Orochimaru. Orochimaru was built up as the big bad of the series. He betrayed his village and friends for knowledge of all jutsu and immortality. He killed Sarutobi and Gaara’s father and finally he had Sasuke. And Shippuden retconned him into a punching bag for Sasuke. He never reached to his potential or never able to show how much he developed in terms of jutsus and power after killing Sarutobi, I honestly would’ve preferred if Orochimaru was successful in taking Sasuke’s body. It could work. if Sasuke was not strong enough to over power the ritual. what would have happened is Orochimaru would've granted Sasuke his one wish to kill Itachi and Sasuke's strong intentions and desires would have remained as part of Orochimaru's subconscious while he was in control of his body. Plus Sasuke was willing to do this if he was able to see Itachi die. Orochimaru already was a pretty powerful ninja and having the Sharingan definitely would have helped. To unlock Mangekyo he might have had to kill Kabuto which I don't have a problem with. And Kabuto would have no problem with since he wanted his master to succeed. Orochimaru would have mastered Sage Mode(snake sage mode would look awesome tbh), and probably unlocked the Rinnegan (he had enough DNA of the First Hokage to Edo Tensei him after all) The Akatsuki view this news very problematic. Orochimaru was already a problem but with confirmation that he succeeded makes him as much as priority as capturing the tailed beasts. Naruto would have asked Tsunade to order a team to hunt Orochimaru down for him to pay for pretty much killing Sasuke and knowing Jiriya wanting to keep a close eye on Orochimaru and wanting to stop him, he would put investigating Pein on hold and join Naruto. Eventually I think Naruto and Itachi would form an alliance and together fight Orochimaru. I believe Itachi knows that if he could get Orochimaru's chakara low enough, he could force his brother out and use Susano to seal Orochimaru. Then Sasuke would kill his brother.

Pro Sasuke Uchiha : Constructive Criticism of Kishimoto’s Antagonist
Disclaimer: I am not a critic. To anyone that disagrees, my humble opinion doesn’t count for anything because I’m just some loser in his mom’s basement as far as you’re concerned. I’m little more than a disappointed fan. Thank you for reading if you’ve go this far. Hope you can read the rest with objective consideration and without bias. This will be a long rant, you’ve been forewarned.
So I’ve been on a spree of criticism of Kishi’s work. Cannot help being criticil of an Artist/Writer who has let me down just as many times as he/she has inspired me. So because he let me down he has inspired me to write about some of the things I’m very critical of because I have no closure from the series and I can’t help but feel “Next Generation”  wasn’t about love for writing the story anymore.
In the beginning of the series Sasuke isn’t yet the antagonist, but it’s clear Kishi intended the to of them to be rivals while building what was supposed to be, and in many ways, is a story of incredible bonds and friendship. It was clear he had a motivation behind what he wanted to do as far as the character developing into and I see, it seems anyway, that he deviated from that.
By the early stages of the character development it is established through Sasuke’s monolgue to Sakura “I am an avenger” that he never stopped grieving the loss of his clan and family and that he wanted the same closure fans never got. He said to Kakashi “I will restore my clan” and while I’m certain this isn’t meant to be taken literally he wanted to do right by their memory.
Understanding that he didn’t just lose his family, he was literally tortured at the age of 8(forced to endure something that had Kakashi bed ridden for a week), he lost connection to his heritage(remember Madara is one of the founding members of the village yet Sasuke had no clue who he was), he lost his idol in Itachi and was forced to deal with a damaged psyche that no one could really repair Itachi drilling in his head that he was some sort of coward. He has both an inferiority complex and a superiority complex because of the standard the Clan is held to. Rather than knowing what is and isn’t true with his parents to guide him through his mess of a life.
What’s disappointing is by the end of the series that wasn’t the main take away from his character. Why? Because the development of his character was stifled by Naruto. Yes, I’m talking about the main character of the story. It’s very relevant to know and understand that Kishi didn’t take time to develop many of the characters in the story. Tenten, Hinata, Lee to an extent, Ino, Choji, Kiba, and Shino among others I may even be forgetting because....yea its obvious.
So to the point. Naruto borders on being a gary stu because, seemingly, Kishi was more partial to him than anyone Sasuke included. That’s not to say Sasuke didn’t get charcter development, just he didn’t develop in a way that was understandable to the majority of fans.
As I was saying about the end of the story none of this is understood. Worst part being that Itachi overshadows Sasuke’s character in a way that is completely disrespectful to fans who had great insterest in the development of him as Sasuke’s antagonist. I do not in anyway disagree with the choice to make Itachi remain his loving brother, who made a difficult choice for the good of the village and the one he cared for the most, but to be honest the logic that comes out of Itachi’s choice and reasoning by fans loving him so yet having great disdain for Sasuke as describe: Whiny, emo, ungrateful, selfish, among other things is a fallacy. Most of those things are inaccurate as well hypocritical to praise Itachi at the same time.
Firstly lest start with him being ungrateful or selfish. It was immediately after the death of his clan, that this clearly life altering even influenced him to decide without doubt that he would devote his life to seeing JUSTICE for what happened then. This is how the story STARTED, please understand that it wasn’t until part 2 that this turns into full blown revenge and blind hatred in a completely hypocritical manner that made fans who already disliked Sasuke absolutely loathe him. I’ll say again this is merely so Naruto could play hero and save his soul(see there I’m getting irritated thinking about this already).
If you have a goal like becoming Hokage, or President of the United States, or First Pick in the NFL draft, or becoming head Medic nin, whatever real life or fictional you know that you can’t just decide to give it up because people say it is Irrational. Sasuke’s ultimate goal was to avenge his family. That meant he had to become strong enough to defeat Itachi, which meant sacrifices must be made.
What did he sacrifice. A normal childhood, his friendships, and the closest thing he had to a family since his blood relatives died. Yet Sasuke is selfish? Sacrificing your frienships and chance at a normal life in favor of a decision you made at 8 years old because of the family you LOVED is probably the most selfless thing a person can do. I often see people compare him to both Kakashi, and Naurto in these cases to justify loathing his character and making silly memes to ridicule him.
Kakashi couldn’t get revenge on anyone, seeing as how his only family commit suicide, The White Fang was not murdered/slaughtered. As far as Rin and Obito, they died in the line of duty they weren’t killed simply because some evil bastard(as far as Sasuke knew) wanted to “Test my power.”
Naruto, had no connection to his family until Jiraiya and also had no concept of vengence until Jiraiya died, and If we are really to give credit where its due, the only reason he chooses not to avenge him is 1. Because it would go agaisnt his Masters wishes 2. Because he see the weight Sasuke’s had to carry and wants to free his friend from that pain. He can’t do that if he chooses to walk a path that was not his.
Another thing that Kishi made very clear was that was the point. Sasuke was at his best when he was written as a character that manifests his own reality, and walks his own path without regret. Let’s not forgot that Fugaku is nothing like Jiraiya. He didn’t raise Sasuke to aim for peace or anything like that, in fact, one of the Uchiha’s rules is that they don’t take prisoners. Yet another reason Sasuke took it upon himself to kill Itachi, it was his duty.
Then of course, yes I’m about to go there you’ve been wared, there’s the SasuSaku thing. Why? Just why? This relationship, was never called for from the get go. Another reason so many Americans are so messed up that they don’t understand the difference between true love and infatuation. Where does Sakura’s “love” begin, where does Sasuke’s more importantly? Was that established with any certainty?
In the beginning the bulk off their interaction consisted with Sasuke ignoring her and calling her annoying. The nicest thing he says to her the entire series is “Thank you.” seriously? Not “I’ll miss you.” not  “I care for you...deeply” but “Thank you.” Thats like something you say when someone passes the salt at the dinner table.
What is their connection? I refuse to bring up other pairs because is about Sasuke development as a character not SasuSaku. Sakura does nothing but follow Sasuke around like a love sick puppy and by the end of the series, it somehow pays off and while it may feel like a win for fans of that pair, to me as a fan of the overall series and writing that makes sense even in a fictional world where characters have superpowers. There should be some logic there at least.
What we know at the start of part one is Sakura is a 12 year old girl with a crush on the most popular boy in school. Hilarious, that’s the foundation of this pairing, never in part one and hardly anything in the series at all does it explain where these “romantic” feelings developed. It least we know why Hinata admires Naruto (sorry nothing more on NaruHina, another time perhaps).
And Sasuke never shows any affection to her what so ever besides “Thank you.” of course and gently lying her on the park bench. Don’t think I don’t notice the SasuSaku moments either. Like when he was about to break both of Zaku’s arms and Sakura hugs him. Probably as close ot romance as it gets and Sasuke is being hugged from behind. He doesn’t initiate the hug and he doesn’t hug her back, he stands there suprised at probably the first time he’s been hugged since his mother was murdered.
Understand this, if you take that as a sign Sasuke felt the same, fine. That is absolutely acceptable, even understandable. However, for me, that is a bit half assed. It’s really not much to go on over the course of 700 chapters to say they “fell in love”. Because to me love does not equate to trying to force someone to notice you for two years, having attempts at affection met with disdain and even physical assault, like when he slaps the apples she spent so much time carving out of her hands as she visited him and tried to feed him at the hospital.
I’m sure I don’t have to mention the actual attempted murder at the summit to anybody so that’s all I’ll say about it for now. Now back to Sasuke’s overall story as I prepare to close. The summit was probably the biggest chance to turn Sasuke into an admirable character in fans eyes.
Instead what Kishi does is comepletely wreck his character, so he can be the antagonist and be saved by Naruto. There’s even this little comparison by Karin where she see’s how evil and corrupt Sasuke is, another innocent he tried to kill, and then sees how pure Naruto’s soul is. It was ridiculous. I understand Naruto is the hero of the story, but that never meant Sasuke HAD to be the villain.
He even turns the entire situation with Danzo and his orders to have the Uchiha clan annihilated into a complete mess. Sasuke has gone batshit, and rather than being a person trying to do right by his clan and his brother’s memory, Kishi turns him into this absolute fiend who will murder even his own allies just to make some silly point based on a story told him by a guy who’s real faces he’s never seen even once. A guy who wasn’t even the real Madara Uchiha. As if Sasuke was never strong enough to separate himself from his emotions and what he believes is right. Itachi was already dying and he wanted Sasuke  to kill him as atonement. He killed the uchiha in favor of the leaf why would he want Sasuke to destroy the village.
If he were written properly Sasuke would’ve killed Danzo and walked his own path, facing Naruto one final time and either dying or leaving all of that mess behind. It would’ve been fine for him to return to the village if he there to sow seed and start a new with the Uchiha clan. Instead he's a glorified prize for Sakura and Sasusaku fans, as well as someone Naruto basically stalked for 2 years just to force him to not even be in the picture anyway.
As I said in the beginning, or someone in the middle maybe. Sasuke was at his best when he was written as an independent character walking his own path and sacrificing what mattered most to him in favor of doing right by his people, his family, his clan. I thank anyone who made it to the bottom of this post.

@shhalala - I can’t reply without reblogging, this is not my main.
There is no “period” to be wary of what other humans say. Maybe the USA wasn’t aware before Trump made a joke of himself, but most people know to not take everything at face value, not even news. Which is why I was asking if the discussed article had others sources as I couldn’t find any.
“The article is inclined to be more fake than valid”: I’ll let this pass since I’ve discussed this at length with other users, but again: I’m not going to believe you just because you say so. I don’t want belief, I want knowledge.
“That does not even make sense”: I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
“Sakura would not force Sasuke to anything”
Sakura keeps forcing her feelings on Sasuke every single chance she has in the Naruto manga. She doesn’t even know who he is at first as she mocks orphans in front of him to gain his sympathy (but she’s twelve, so it’s fine that she has a crush on a guy she barely knows). Then they start acting kinda friendly, which is nice, but they never have real talks.
And she keeps asking him out even though he keeps rebuffing her. Until he stops talking to her or treating her like a former friend altogether in Shippuden. He only starts talking to her again at the very end, when he tells her “thank you”, in the same way he thanked her before cutting her lose when leaving Konoha the first time.
So it is very in character for Sakura to force herself on Sasuke, at least her feelings.
“Sasuke is not the type to do things he does not want”
Before the Uchiha massacre, Sasuke is established to be a very caring little boy, openly affectionate, craving for his father and brother’s approval, always trying very hard and thinking he’s never good enough as his father favors his genius older brother. Sasuke, at his core, is not violent or cold, he is warm and passionate, like the Uchiha flame. He gives everything he has to his loved ones, first his parents, then his brother, and finally Naruto.
Is killing his older brother what he wants? Itachi ordered him to. Is leaving the village what he wants? Orochimaru sent four strong henchmen to beat him up to make him feel weak and in need of more power, right after he was tortured by his brother and lost against Naruto, who was until then a very bad ninja. Orochimaru himself states that Sasuke, because of Naruto’s influence, is drifting from the revenge his brother groomed him into. Moreover, right after Kakashi scolds Sasuke for fighting with Naruto on the hospital roof, Sasuke is shown to accept Kakashi’s “advice” to suck it up (even though it was BS). Had Orochimaru not sent his henchmen, Sasuke wouldn’t have left Konoha.
The only things Sasuke wanted by himself were to spend time with Team 7 (reasons why both Itachi and Orochimaru beat him up, so he’d be scared into wanting more power), to protect people he loves (reasons why he sacrifices himself for Naruto in Wave Country, fights to protect Sakura against Gaara, recruits Juugo though Juugo is of little help but rather in need of help himself, and decides to become Hokage), and to be strong (though it can be argued he does that either to please his dad or out of fear).
Sasuke looks cold and uncaring while he actually is a controlled ball of passion. I love this character because he is very well-rounded and complex, not because he “looks” like he does whatever the fuck he wants. Sasuke’s motivations are diverse, and often not his own.
Sakura is forceful + Sasuke keeps sacrificing himself for the people he loves
= Sasuke could very well have caved to Sakura’s repeated pleading of hooking up. He does care for her, though there is not explicit proof it is romantic. And Sakura would not voluntarily hurt him, rather she would do it the way she mocked orphans, to get close to him. So yeah, it is in character that Sakura would force himself upon Sasuke, and that he would let her do so. I’d just rather it didn’t happen, thank you very much, and Boruto’s characterisation isn’t helping with that.
BTW, in case you didn’t know, rape isn’t always violent or impressive. Coercing someone into having sex, insisting or making it so that person thinks it is the only option is also rape. I don’t think Sakura would beat Sasuke up to have sex with him, but Boruto makes it believable that she harassed him into saying yes. Why doesn’t he spend more time with her? With their child? He has a fucking teleportation device in his eye! That he uses to meet with Naruto! He could send an hawk or ask for a picture of his baby! Why is that character, who is so passionate about people he loves in Naruto that he is ready to shoulder the hatred of the whole world for all eternity to protect them, actually uncaring in Boruto? (Because Boruto is a joke that took every single Naruto character at face value and turned them into caricatures of themselves)
“If you are pro Sasuke you should know this and know your character better”
Offense taken.
Underneath the underneath
Naruto looks warm and happy-go-lucky when inside he is a full grown demon of rage and pain (that he learns to befriend). Sasuke looks cold and unfazed when inside he cares passionately about others (so much he almost loses himself to it). They form a chiasm. This is why I love this story, because nothing is what is seems to be on the surface. Shame not many people notice it.

Sasuke has been shown to prioritise other people's life over his own (vs haku, vs gaara, shielding ONLY naru with susanoo arm when vs juubito even tho his own life was at stake), showing his selfless side, but it is always interpreted as THE OPPOSITE?! "don't touch, he/she is mine!!! sasuke is so possessive over xxx" by -you know who- fans. Sasuke was ready to die for their favourites and that's all they could muster from those scene.
Tumblr media
Those people are dumb, that’s why.
They don’t understand Sasuke because they don’t care about understanding him and they associate him to some dark and brooding trope like shojo protective boyfriend or whatever they like. They self-insert with the other side of the ship (be it N*ruto, Itachi, kishi’s canon pairing or everything else) so they like the cool dark guy to be possessive over them.
(antifandom, antiNaruto, antiSS under the cut)
They’re confused by kishi’s pro-Konoha propaganda and N*ruto wanking, that pushes Sasuke into a villain-ish position on more than one occasion, although even from that they shouldn’t misunderstand him, and if hey do it’s because they’re too dumb. If they were able to think they would see how EACH AND EVERY OF SASUKE’S GOALS WERE NOT RELATED TO HIMSELF, from avenging his family and clan against Itachi to avenging Itachi against Konoha, from protecting the village that Itachi had defended, to creating a new shinobi world and the longlasting peace Itachi had dreamed of, so that no one else would go through what his clan, and most of it all Itachi (never himself, even tho he suffered more than anyone else) had gone through.
This alone shows how selfless and self-effacing he is. Since the massacre he never considered himself his own person, he just saw himself as an avenger, a tool to carry on the revenge for his parents, and mind you, revenge means justice, like Kirin, the jutsu he invented to bring judgement from the sky, from heaven, to Itachi who destroyed their family. He never made vicious, evil, selfish thoughts about killing Itachi, or even others.
Before the massacre he was a sweet loving child who just wanted to get strong enough to work beside his dad and brother in the police, the only ones he wanted to be acknowledged from. He never made anything about himself, he just wanted to be part of the group of people he most admired.
Even the way “fans” see him, as crazed and power hungry is OOC and wrong, because Sasuke values strenght and power, of course, but he does it for a purpose, because he wants, he needs to get stronger in order to carry on his goals, and of course he admires the strongest ones and he ignores the others, since he wants to learn from them, or challenge them, like in N*ruto’s case, towards which he would feel a complex a superiority at first, and of inferiority as the story progresses, since N*ruto gets stronger faster than him despite his hard work.  Sasuke isn’t power hungry, he’s actually humble enough to know his own limits and ask for help when he can’t do things alone, like asking N*ruto what S*kura told him about getting up the tree with chakra, or forming Team Taka for his revenge, or asking Tobi/Obito, Orochimaru, then the past Kage about the history of Konoha (ignoring Tobirama’s harsh words against him).
Sasuke’s story is tragic, the pain of loss permeated his whole being, to the point of never being happy for real because he lost too much. As painful as loneliness and being ignored can be N*ruto’s pain is different to the pain of someone who had a family he loved and a brother he loved and admired more than anyone, only to have it taken away from him in such a bloody, dark way, with lies and violence and manipulation marking his soul. The memories of those happy moments stayed in his mind, and every time they came up they were tainted by the blood of his parents, by death everywhere, by Itachi’s cruel words. So much that he devoted his life to them, forgetting himself completely.
But fans see him as selfish, they like to make jokes on bratty arrogant/emo whiny Sasuke, while they define as selfless those who controlled or tried to control him, pushing their ideals, needs and desires on him. I won’t even mention his canon wife because that’s a marketing move to have a new generation and her manipulation/pushy attemps never made it otherwise. Oh wait I mentioned her. Anyway, I was mostly referring to N*ruto who canonly said the most possessive and “unhealthy” things about Sasuke and to Sasuke (and mind you I am interested in dark Nar*sasu), and who’s by far the most possessive character.
I am also referring to Itachi (whose reasons I already commented and “defended” every time, but who undoubtedly who controlled Sasuke’s whole life) who controlled Sasuke’s life to an extreme point, manipulating him so that he’d take the path he chose for him, and “entrusting” him to N*ruto in the end. As selfless as Itachi was, as much as his actions were dictated by his love for Sasuke, Sasuke is just as selfless, if not more selfless than him, because he never tried and force Itachi to do as he said and wanted, like during their Edo Tensei encounter, when Sasuke desperately wanted Itachi’s attention and time, but he also respected Itachi’s decision, no matter how painful it was for him.
Even more so, the times Sasuke didn’t do what Itachi had expected was when he didn’t kill N*ruto, which is a selfless act, since it would have granted him mangekyou. Other selfless actions were not killing those Orochimaru wanted him to, freeing all his prisoners without expecting anything, and freeing Team Taka without forcing them to help him back.
And then there are the moments you mentioned, that are so important to understand him. He saved N*ruto’s life from Haku, and he protected him with Susanoo’s arm, and he shielded him from Gaara and while Haku would have killed him, he wouldn’t have died from being shoved against a tree by Gaara, and yet he did it anyway, even though he was badly hurt and he got more injuries by cushioning N*ruto’s fall. He’s so selfless and caring for those he values important, that he just doesn’t care about himself, he just wants to prevent them from suffering. Even though it means not carrying on his revenge, the purpose of his whole life. That moment he thought that if he didn’t survive that fight it meant that it wasn’t his destiny to avenge his family because he wasn’t strong enough, I don’t remember the exact words but I remember I was moved because that’s someone who doesn’t see himself as valuable or important at all. That’s someone who only sees himself as a tool.
People don’t understand him because he doesn’t blatantly go around saving people and making big-ass statements like your average manga protagonist, in fact he downplays his actions so much that they don’t notice them at all.
Actually not only I find those ppl you mentioned dumb, I also find most pro-Sasuke fans kinda dumb as well because the way they defend him is superficial and shows a poor understanding of a character that is so complex and amazing that they just don’t seem to grasp.

Different Kinds of Characters
Dynamic - Sakuragi Hanamichi
Tumblr media
At first, he was a slacker at their high school and a lover boy yet is rejected by every woman he meets. He then, meets Haruko Akagi whom he falls in love with immediately which then led hin to join the Shohoku Basketball team. His character progresses from being arrogant and an awful player to being dubbed as the "King of Rebound and Dunk" across the high schools in Japan.
Static - Rukawa Kaede
Tumblr media
He's the opposite of Sakuragi as he is very attractive to girls yet pays no attention to them and he is also calm and collected but his character stays the same throughout the series as he is the "ace of Shohoku".
Round - Itachi Uchiha
Tumblr media
His character is quite complex as everyone was led to believe that he was portrayed as the "bad" guy for killing his entire clan except for his younger brother and joining an international crime organization but in fact, he did all of this for the benefit of the village and his brother preserving his loyalty to the village.
Flat - Elena Fisher
Tumblr media
In the Uncharted Series, she is portrayed as charming, intelligent and tenacious as Nathan Drake. She remains like this from the start to finish and could be seen as quite an equal to the main characters of the game.
Stock - Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik
Tumblr media
The nemesis of Sonic, he is a mad scientist with an IQ of 300 and strives for world domination by creating the Eggman Empire yet is always thwarted by Sonic and his friends.
Protagonist - Nathan Drake
Tumblr media
The main protagonist in the Uncharted Series. He is quick-witted and a former professional treasure hunter. He is also a deep-sea salvage expert and action-pro.
Antagonist - Zoran Lazarevic
Tumblr media
A character from the 2nd installment of the Uncharted Series. He is portrayed as a big man with a deep voice and he was also the game's main villain. During the final battle, he uses more brawn than brains which is stereotypical with someone having a large body.

would you consider itasasu a rarepair?
Tumblr media
This alone could be enough of an answer.
(my opinion on Itasasu and other pairings, literally 1 anti ending mention and, of course, pro-Itasasu all over. Read at your own risk)
Mind you, I’m not attached to single words, or screencaps or particular angles and literal interpretations because words could be interpreted and twisted, same for fanservice-y angles or single actions.
It’s the undying devotion, the mutual obsession they have for each other, the immense love for the other that drives their whole life, their thoughts and words and actions. It’s the extreme lenghts Itachi went to ensure Sasuke would be safe, even if it meant keeping him at a distance first, then lying, then sacrificing their family and clan, and then his life for his little brother, even though it all meant destroying everything Sasuke had and knew, leaving him alone and lost in the world. It’s the single minded determination that made Sasuke sever all his bonds and pursue revenge against him first, then wage war against the village to avenge him, then protect that village once he got to know more about his brother, and try to destroy the system and rebuild it, in order to make Itachi’s dream of peace come true. It’s the respect, the admiration, the pure love reflected in Sasuke’s eyes not only when they’re fighting side by side but also seeping through the cracks, on certain moments during their fight, even though Itachi pretended he was a villain. It’s the casual comments Itachi makes about Sasuke having grown up, during said fight. It’s the way Itachi, a long distance fighter who uses genjutsu and doesn’t need to touch his opponents, touched Sasuke over and over, invading his personal space, using his hands instead of weapons, every time they fought.
I don’t bother defining or boxing their feelings for each other because they’re more than romantic and more than brotherly, they’re stronger and more complex than anything else and that’s what makes them special. Their moments, both as “enemies” and as brothers, are magic, intense, and ambiguously written, other brothers in the story don’t have the same intensity and sensuality that Itachi has towards Sasuke, and they don’t have the same adoration and selfless surrender Sasuke has towards Itachi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m gonna digress now.
There are canon pairings existing for a specific purpose (like making babies and a next generation) and pairings that are basically canon or canon-ish, with a lot of important meaningful moments, with development or chemistry or both, that make more sense and feel more natural than officially canon couples.
I don’t know what’s considered a rarepair normally, to me it’s a pairing where the characters had some interaction although not as much as fans would like to, nevertheless those interactions were interesting, with a chemistry that suggested possibilities. Unlike crack pairing, that for how I see them are pairings with little or no interaction. I wrote a little about this here.
For example I consider rarepairs Kakasasu, Juusasu, Suisasu, Kakaita.
I consider borderline rare/crack pairing Madasasu, ShikamaruxSasuke, Nagaita, Deisasu, Itadei/Deiita.
I consider crack pairings ShisuixSasuke, MinatoxItachi, and so on.
A special mention goes to my personal “canon behind the screen” category, for pairings that  “totally happened”, but since they’re controversial they can’t be shown in a shounen~
Like Orosasu (as a one-sided dubcon dark dom/sub thing), ObitoxItachi (after the massacre, during Itachi’s Akatsuki time), post ending dark Narusasu, Shiita (uhm it’s even more than that, to me it’s canon ok), a little Kakaita after Shisui’s death and some Obisasu, because, you know, ropes and bandages and blindfolds.
I didn’t mention Itasasu on purpose. Itasasu doesn’t fit in any of these.
The only thing Itasasu has in common with a rarepair is that the community is small because it’s a controversial pairing, that especially these days where most fans are into canon couples, sns or new stuff and everyone is a puritan hypocrite doesn’t seem to be that popular even though it’s more canon than canon couples.
In short, rarepair my arse~

I've seen people call Itachi a ''mindrapist'' countless times now and I'm so confused by the term?? What do they mean? That's a tad too extreme a word for something like his lies to Sasuke isn't it? And he's never done anything like that with genjutsu either.. Do you have any ideas what they might be referring to?
Tumblr media
Actually Itachi didn’t just lie to Sasuke, he full-on manipulated him over and over, and he did use genjutsu on him. A lot.
Before I reply I’ll point out something for those who only think in black/white terms. As much as I loathe anti-Itachi arguments (especially the blind Konoha dog Itachi one), I also don’t like the martyr-only Itachi ones. I don’t overlook his dark side. I like his dark side, it’s what makes him complex and fascinating. It’s what sets the lenghts he’d go to keep Sasuke alive and safe, even if it means hurting him, the very person he wants to protect. It’s part of the confidence, the arrogance even, of a genius who’s so many steps ahead of everyone that (after Shisui’s death) he thinks that no one knows better than him, it’s what despite he knew how evil Danzo was, made him fall for his blackmail and manipulation, since he couldn’t allow him to harm Sasuke in any way, since his only weakness was his love for Sasuke, a love so strong that made him sacrifice his whole clan to spare him from death, even though his love hurt his little brother more than anyone else’s.
(in case it’s not clear, this is not an antiitachi post although it’s not a pro-martyr Itachi thing either. Also some anti-ending, anti-naruto, anti-kakashi, anti-s*kura under the cut. Can’t help it.)
Compared to part 1, especially ep. 84, Shippuuden episodes/chapters toned Itachi’s actions down, especially after the truth was revealed, highlighting the real reason behind them and not showing the most extreme details anymore.
Itachi used tsukuyomi on child Sasuke right after the massacre, to show him a fake version of him killing his parents. In retrospective, he sure didn’t use a full tsukuyomi since Sasuke woke up too soon from it and was able to move and even try to attack him/go after him, but the scene itself shows him barely conscious, weak and drooling, while the elder was looming over him, even punching him hard when he made it to get up on his feet.
Itachi used full tsukuyomi when he met Sasuke at the inn, something that wasn’t supposed to happen, but since it did happen he couldn’t risk to blow his cover and make his brother understand the truth. He ignored Sasuke at first, but when his little brother insisted he pointed out that he still wasn’t strong enough, because he lacked hatred. He tried to fuel his hatred against him, taunting him and beating him up with such brutality that even Kisame was surprised, as his partner never got physical with anyone. He didn’t need to be physical, being a genjutsu user. (my personal interpretation of this is that Itachi needed physical contact with Sasuke, so badly that the only way he could allow himself to indulge in it was through violence) And at the end of the beating, he grabbed Sasuke by the throat and shoved him against the wall, and leaning on him he cast Tsukuyomi to show him the fake version of the massacre over and over, so much that Sasuke was rendered unconscious and hospitalized for days.
Itachi used tsukuyomi again during their fight, first to show Sasuke how Mangekyou came to exist, with Madara and Izuna’s story, that turned out to be fake, but most of it all he used it to make Sasuke believe that he was plucking his eyes out. His intent was clear, he wanted to corner Sasuke so that he’d use the curse mark, so that he could free him, and he wanted Sasuke’s hatred to be unwavering, so that he’d kill him.
Lastly, fearing that despite his measures to keep Sasuke away from the man he knew as Madara, he planned to use kotoamatsukami on him, “giving” Shisui’s crow to an unknowing Naruto, so that if Sasuke got to know the truth and decided to attack Konoha, that genjutsu would have prevented him from doing so, conditioning (brainwashing him) to protect it instead. I already talked about this and I don’t intend to do it again, it’s a controversial plan, and it’s a wrong thing indeed, but in my opinion he didn’t do it out of loyalty towards Konoha, but more because he didn’t want Sasuke to become an enemy of the village because it meant being sentenced to death, not having any stability or safety, becoming a rogue like him, which was the opposite of what he wanted for him.
Like Sasuke understood Itachi and forgave him as soon as he was told the truth, because he loved him so, so much, even though I am aware of the immense suffering, the anger and fear and despair he went through, the scr it left on him and that will never really heal, I won’t talk sh*t about Itachi anyway, because it’s Konoha’s fault, because Itachi was alone, in difficult times, facing difficult decisions, whose goal was to keep him alive and safe, unlike Naruto or Kakashi (I won’t even mention S*kura because she is irrelevant. fight me) who claimed to want to save Sasuke, who, in times of peace (or in the end of a war), manipulated, imprisoned, guilt tripped and tamed him into submission.

Sorry to bother you, I just have a quick question :) I just read your blog info and your opinions about the dynamic between Sasuke and Itachi –to be more specific, that Sasuke is the bottom. I don't know why, either I have memory issues or I mixed you up with someone else is my head, but somehow I remember some time ago it was the other way around? I really don't want to get on your nerves with that, but I'm about to think I have alzheimer – did you change your opinions about them or am I dumb?
Tumblr media
Nah it’s ok, also if you last checked my blog in 2014-5 you’re not wrong, I changed my mind since then...luckily xD
(under the cut my personal opinion, not meant to bash ship or shippers, tagged as anti-S*suita. Deal with it)
You already read why I prefer bottom Sasuke and how I see Itasasu and other pairings’ dynamics.
I was always interested in Itasasu but at first I used to ship kakasasu mostly, and narusasu, and I liked hurt/comfort fics where Itasasu was the dark thing Sasuke needed to be saved from. Then I got interested in the pairing in itself but I was disappointed because most characterizations and dynamics were bad yaoi clichés, either cheesy like them repeating niisan/otouto a thousand times and being all cute and happy because who cares about ther canon complexity and tragic history, or annoying like smug sex god Itachi/blushy and whiny but also slutty Sasuke. So I I kinda agreed with S*suita shippers who attacked those clichés, but at first I didn’t realize that their characterization was just as bad, like psycho possessive 24/7 horny horny Sasuke/meek cinnamon roll pro-Konoha Itachi who’s so guilty that he lets Sasuke do anything.
I explained why I disagree with both in those links, but I’ll add that in my opinion while the first (bad Itasasu) is plain ridiculous, but harmless, the second (S*suita) is harmful for both: in fact unlike most of the stuff I’ve read for this dynamic, Itachi is not blindly pro-Konoha or weak, he’s so assertive and strong that he decided when to die, literally, he’s so always in control that his plans for Sasuke’s life extended even after his death, he never let Sasuke lead because he’s older and that’s what it’s natural for him to do.
And most of it all, Sasuke, is only apparently, in this portrayal, “empowered” but actually he’s misunderstood and reduced to a power hungry, arrogant, selfish, possessive brat when he only put on an arrogant façade while having a low self-esteem, who strived to become stronger not because he was power hungry but because he wanted to be worthy of his father and brother first, then to reach his goals, who was self-centered, meaning that he only cared about his goals, but those goals were never about him, only about Itachi, so he is actually selfless, like he showed many times, and who was not possessive at all, because defending Itachi’s name and memory is not jealousy, it’s love and respect, the same love and respect he showed during the fight against Kabuto, where he took a subordinate position naturally, where he tried to make Itachi stay and pay attention to him, but he understood his decision and accepted it despite his own pain. But I already talked about this.
So I used to have this dilemma where I loved the pairing but I hated its dynamics. In 2014-5 (that’s why I’m mentioning the year) I wrote a S*suita fic trying to “fix” the flaws I’ve mentioned but the more I wrote, the deeper my understanding of them became, and the more unnatural too that dynamic felt. I felt manipulated, sort of.I felt like I failed as an author, that I had been brainwashed by the opinions of other authors, bloggers and (former) friends, and it’s not a common thing for me, since I value my independent thought, as you can guess from my posts and my fics, that are all kinda unusual, for pairings and dynamic. So last year I fixed it, toning down certain exaggerations I hated, and making it transition to Itasasu, as if that dynamic were a phase only possible in that context.
But still it wasn’t right, because to me top Sasuke/bottom Itachi just wasn’t right anymore. I realized that the bottom Sasuke/top Itachi dynamic was right all along, despite the OOCness in fans’ portrayal, and the solution wasn’t to reverse it, but to make it faithful to their personalities. So a couple of months ago I rewrote it as 100% Itasasu, and now I feel like I did a good job and that their portrayal is 100% mine and real.
Which means I’m not going to change my mind.

No offense but do you believe that Itachi has the right to sacrifice other people lives? And believe it is admirable thing? I like Itachi but for myself I consider this wrong on his part. I don’t stand for everything he does like you do. Sorry I know you mentioned your blog is place where you stated your opinions not for discussion but I need to understand more of your view on Itachi and his arc.
Tumblr media
No offense but I have the feeling that every time I’m asked about Itachi my reply isn’t satisfying because it doesn’t follow tumblr “fiction and reality are the same thing” mentality and it doesn’t use the words “wrong”, “problematic”, “unacceptable”, which is never gonna happen.
(under the cut, pro-itachi, anti-antiitachis)
I recommend you to rewatch episodes 140 and 141 because Obito’s words are the best explanation of Itachi’s actions. I’ll repeat myself one more time, as I wrote about this many times already (see here, here, here and in its tag)
Itachi is a very complex character, a genius who did controversial actions that stir an either positive or negative opinion in readers. As stated in my profile description I see Itachi through Sasuke’s eyes, full of love and admiration, so yes, I admire him. I admire his strenght and his resolve. So did Fugaku and Mikoto, who understood why he was doing it before they died and left him with heartfelt words of forgiveness. So did Sasuke, who understood who were really guilty for the massacre, and how much his brother suffered in carrying it on. I think that many don’t understand Sasuke either so it’s no wonder they don’t get why he admired and loved him so much, or why he forgave him so quickly, but this is just my personal opinion.
It’s a matter of focus. You can either focus on the single trees or on the whole forest. If you only focus on Itachi’s single actions you’ll see the innocent people killed, which is sad and horrible and no one can think otherwise. If you zoom up though, you’ll see the whole picture from a higher perspective.
Itachi is a victim of Danzo’s manipulation.
He was forced to kill the clan or he would have killed Sasuke, he was very clear about it.
He was 13 and he had lost Shisui, the only one he could talk to, the only hope he had to stop the coup.
He was traumatized by the war he witnessed at 4. He thought that a coup would have weakened Konoha, that other villages would have invaded it, which meant another war and he would have done everything to prevent it, because war was hell and he didn’t want to put his brother through it, so sacrificing his clan, a smaller group, for the sake of a bigger one, the village, and for the sake of his most precious person was better than having Sasuke killed by Danzo.
He knew there were no other options back then, as Shisui’s attempt and diplomacy had both failed.
He knew that if he hadn’t done it, Danzo would have proceeded anyway. Thus, he decided to be the one to end them, instead of Konoha, who would have also killed Sasuke.
This is his context that many overlook. Or if they see it, they misinterpret his reasons anyway, thinking that he did it for peace’s sake and Konoha’s sake, treating him as a Konoha supporter and blind patriot because he obeyed to an order he loathed. What many don’t realize is Itachi did it for Sasuke first. What many forget is that Itachi’s main concern had always been Sasuke, to the point of threatening Danzo right after the massacre, to never harm Sasuke or he’d spill Konoha’s secrets to enemy nations. As much as he wanted peace he was ready to wage war if Sasuke was harmed. Does it sound like a Konoha blind supporter, or like someone who would do ANYTHING to protect the one he loves?
I admire Itachi, yes. Not because he killed his clan, but because he did EVERYTHING to protect Sasuke.
He did a terrible thing. Yet I trascend his action and put it in its context of desperation and helplessness and blackmail where he was living, where the only ray of light was Sasuke. I look at the reason why he did it, and see the immense love he felt for Sasuke, and how earnestly he admitted his mistakes in the end, unlike every other character.
No one has the right to kill another living being.
Too bad that they’re shinobi, their job is to kill people, if needs be. They do it to protect their comrades, to protect their clients, to prevent worse threats. They do it honourably fighting face to face, or they do it sneaking at their backs. I didn’t make this rule. This is their world, where killing is not exactly as wrong as in the real world, if done for a cause.
No one has the right to kill another living being.
Neither Itachi nor Danzo who ordered the massacre nor Hiruzen who let him do it.
EDIT: guys, read the reblogs, there’s a whole AU made out of this!
