Pet Food Safety: As pet owners, we all want the best for our furry friends, especially when it comes to their health and well-being. One of the most important aspects of pet care is selecting the right food and ensuring it is stored properly. With so many options available on the market, it can be overwhelming to know which products to choose and how to keep them safe. That’s why we’ve created the ultimate guide to pet food safety, packed with tips and tricks to help you make informed decisions and keep your pet’s food fresh and healthy. From understanding pet food labels to storing food at the right temperature, our guide covers everything you need to know to ensure your pet is getting the best nutrition possible. So, let’s dive in and learn how to choose the right products and store them properly for your furry friend’s optimal health!
The Importance of Pet Food Safety
Pet food safety is crucial for the health and well-being of our pets. Poor-quality food can lead to a variety of health problems, including obesity, digestive issues, and even cancer. Therefore, it’s important to do your research and choose high-quality food that meets your pet’s nutritional needs.
One of the biggest concerns when it comes to pet food safety is contamination. Contaminated food can contain harmful bacteria, such as Salmonella and E. coli, which can make your pet sick. To avoid contamination, it’s important to choose food that is made with high-quality ingredients and is stored properly.
Another concern is the use of harmful ingredients in pet food. Many pet foods contain fillers and additives that can be harmful to your pet’s health. It’s important to read the label carefully and avoid any products that contain ingredients that are known to be harmful.
Overall, pet food safety is essential for your pet’s health and well-being. By choosing high-quality food and storing it properly, you can ensure that your pet is getting the best nutrition possible.
Understanding Pet Food Labels
Pet food labels can be confusing, but they contain important information about the product. Understanding pet food labels can help you make informed decisions about the food you choose for your pet.
The first thing to look for on a pet food label is the list of ingredients. The ingredients are listed in order of weight, with the heaviest ingredient listed first. Look for high-quality ingredients, such as meat, fish, and vegetables.
Next, look for the Guaranteed Analysis section of the label. This section contains information about the nutrient content of the food, including protein, fat, fiber, and moisture. Make sure the food meets your pet’s nutritional needs.
Finally, look for any special claims on the label, such as “all natural” or “grain-free.” These claims can be misleading, so it’s important to do your research and understand what they mean.
Overall, understanding pet food labels is essential for choosing high-quality food that meets your pet’s nutritional needs.
Common Pet Food Ingredients to Avoid
Some pet food ingredients can be harmful to your pet’s health. It’s important to read the label carefully and avoid any products that contain these ingredients.
One common ingredient to avoid is by-products. By-products are the leftover parts of an animal, such as organs and bones. They are often low-quality and can contain harmful bacteria.
Another ingredient to avoid is corn, wheat, and soy. These ingredients are often used as fillers and can be difficult for pets to digest. They can also be a source of allergies.
Finally, avoid any food that contains artificial preservatives, colors, and flavors. These additives can be harmful to your pet’s health and are often used to mask the low-quality ingredients in the food.
Overall, it’s important to read the label carefully and avoid any pet food that contains low-quality or harmful ingredients.
Tips for Choosing the Right Pet Food
Choosing the right pet food can be overwhelming, but there are some tips that can help you make the best decision for your pet.
First, consider your pet’s age, breed, and activity level. Different pets have different nutritional needs, so it’s important to choose food that meets those needs.
Next, look for high-quality ingredients. Choose food that is made with real meat, fish, and vegetables. Avoid any food that contains fillers, by-products, or artificial additives.
Also, consider the form of the food. Some pets prefer dry food, while others prefer wet food. You can also choose a combination of both.
Finally, do your research and read reviews from other pet owners. This can help you make an informed decision and choose food that your pet will love.
Overall, choosing the right pet food is essential for your pet’s health and well-being. By considering your pet’s nutritional needs and choosing high-quality food, you can ensure that your pet is getting the best nutrition possible.
Proper Storage Techniques for Pet Food
Proper storage is essential for keeping your pet’s food fresh and safe. Here are some tips for storing pet food properly:
First, keep the food in its original packaging. The packaging is designed to keep the food fresh and safe from contamination.
Next, store the food in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing the food in direct sunlight or in humid areas, as this can cause the food to spoil.
Also, make sure the food is sealed tightly. This can prevent pests, such as ants and rodents, from getting into the food.
Finally, don’t store the food for too long. Pet food can go bad over time, so it’s important to use it before the expiration date.
Overall, proper storage techniques can help you keep your pet’s food fresh and safe from contamination.
How to Know if Pet Food Has Gone Bad
Pet food can go bad over time, which can be harmful to your pet’s health. Here are some signs that pet food may have gone bad:
First, check the expiration date. If the food is past its expiration date, it may have gone bad.
Next, look for signs of spoilage, such as mold or a foul odor. If the food smells bad or looks moldy, it’s best to throw it out.
Also, pay attention to your pet’s behavior. If your pet is refusing to eat or is experiencing digestive issues after eating, the food may have gone bad.
Finally, always err on the side of caution. If you’re unsure if the food is still good, it’s best to throw it out and choose a new bag.
Overall, it’s important to check pet food regularly for signs of spoilage and to always use it before the expiration date.
Homemade Pet Food: Pros and Cons
Homemade pet food can be a great option for pets with specific dietary needs or allergies. However, there are also some potential drawbacks to consider.
First, homemade pet food allows you to control the ingredients. You can choose high-quality ingredients and avoid any fillers or additives.
Next, homemade pet food can be a good option for pets with allergies or sensitivities to certain ingredients. You can tailor the food to meet your pet’s specific needs.
However, there are also some potential drawbacks to homemade pet food. It can be time-consuming to make and may require additional preparation and cooking time.
Also, it can be difficult to ensure that homemade pet food meets all of your pet’s nutritional needs. It’s important to do your research and consult with a veterinarian to ensure that the food is balanced and meets your pet’s nutritional needs.
Overall, homemade pet food can be a great option for pets with specific dietary needs or allergies, but it’s important to carefully consider the pros and cons.
Supplements and Treats for Pets
Supplements and treats can be a great way to enhance your pet’s diet and provide additional nutrition. However, it’s important to choose high-quality supplements and treats that are safe for your pet.
First, consider your pet’s nutritional needs. Supplements can be a good option for pets with specific nutritional needs, such as joint health or skin and coat health.
Next, choose treats that are made with high-quality ingredients. Avoid any treats that contain fillers or artificial additives.
Also, be mindful of portion sizes. Treats should be given in moderation and should not make up a large portion of your pet’s diet.
Finally, always check with your veterinarian before giving your pet any supplements or treats. They can provide guidance on the best options for your pet’s individual needs.
Overall, supplements and treats can be a great addition to your pet’s diet, but it’s important to choose high-quality options and use them in moderation.

What do you mean not meant for humans. Some people eat the milkbones treats despite of it. Then if they're fine nibbling on it. Then it must be human safe and you're just lying.
Pet food does not have the same safety standards as human food. The FDA does not care if twenty rats or a fistful of plastic was accidentally ground up during the manufacturing process if the end product is not meant for humans. Eating a milk bone won't make you drop dead but I also would not recommend you do that

If my dog will eat anything that’s put in front of her (and some things that are not), then why did I just pay $70 for a bag of kibble? Oh right, it’s because I’m stupidly picky about what I feed my pets to the point of ridiculousness.

Sukuna is old. He is also weirdly cultured for the monster that he is. With so much time on his hands, he loves indulging in arts and literature, and as with everything else he tries, he's good at it. You wouldn't know this, of course, you are only his pet. The time you spend with him is limited and hardly consists of intellectual conversation. You are there to serve one purpose and you know that quite well. So when you wake up in his bed one morning, two things come as a surprise. First that you're even here. It's one of those rare occasions when Sukuna couldn't be bothered kicking or carrying you out of his chambers once your time together was up. Second, he's awake, bent over his desk and so concentrated on a little figurine in his hand that he doesn't immediately notice you've shuffled awake. Once your eyes focus, you see that he's holding a tool in his other hand. He's carving wood. You're almost hypnotized by the scene. The scene feels so private that even for a pet like you, who knows Sukuna in the most intimate way, it feels like you shouldn't be watching. But you can't look away.
"Awake?", he asks, without sparing a glance at you. You apologize for staring, and look for your clothes around the bed. You throw them on just precisely enough to cover up until you reach your chambers, just wanting to be as quick and innocuous as possible. You wait for Sukuna's approval to leave. He gives you a simple nod, once more avoiding to look at you. You leave feeling conflicted. Special, because he allowed you to stay and watch (even as little as you did), but saddened because he barely looked at you, once more solidifying in your mind that you're only interesting to him when you're naked and bent over. As long as you've been here, you could never stop wishing for his validation.
Sukuna knows when you get insecure too. He notices the way your eyes droop, the way you close in on yourself and seem absent in his presence. He justifies this excessive worry about you by telling himself he likes to be the only thing that bothers his pets. All the way until he realized he already is the only thing that can make you sad. This realization falls upon him one time he lashes out on you and sees the immediate change of heart on your face. Now, he isn't one to apologize, especially not to someone who is as low under him as his pet. But why does he feel guilty when he sees this one act of his ruin your day? When he catches a glimpse of you sitting in the garden with your head hung low, or leaving more food on your plate than you usually do. If only you knew the way you really made him feel.
He beckons you to his chambers, and you follow three steps behind him like a good pet does. You didn't expect this time to be any different than others. You've become used to serving Sukuna on days you loved him and on days you hated him. But when he tells you to close your eyes, you know something is different. You obey, of course, and listen to his footsteps as he fetches something from the room. His hand takes yours and opens it, placing a piece of wood onto your palm. You already know, but you wait for him to allow you to open your eyes. He lightly presses his thumb on your cheek under your eye, and when you look, you find a small wooden fawn, curled up and asleep in your hands.
"Master!!..", you start, but nothing else can leave your mouth. You turn the figure around in your hand, inspecting and admiring the details. He's given you gifts before, but not ones carved by his own hand. Not ones made with love.
"You don't have to squint anymore.", Sukuna says, almost jokingly. But his face is as serious as ever as he looks at you, his muse. He thinks of the first time he's exhausted you to the point of passing out right after your nightly meetings. You were relatively new and very unsure of your safety. He thinks of your small body curled up in sleep on the edge of his bed, knees pressed to your chest in a primal, subconscious attempt to protect yourself. His little pet, his fawn.
You slur on and on about how beautiful it is, how you don't know how to thank him, the usual when you receive a gift. And as usual, Sukuna shuts you up with a kiss. You welcome it and wrap your arms around his neck, giving yourself in to him and letting him take you to the bed.
And he takes things slow tonight. He's gentle and so, so giving. Every sensation is delicate, prolonged and heightened to exhaustion. You cling to him, pull him impossibly close, and come apart under the comforting weight of him. Afterwards, you hold his hand to your face and kiss it softly. His hands, so large and strong, capable of such violence, yet for you they craft gifts, cradle, caress, love... in a very subtle and distant way, of course. With these thoughts your hands slip away from his, you turn around and quickly drift off.
He looks at you now, sleeping so close to him. Trusting him with your back, and turning your curled up form to the outside world. As if he is no longer a perceived danger. He smiles to himself in victory, and plants a chaste kiss to your shoulder to wish you one final goodnight.

Steve arriving at a hotel for a work conference for his dad’s company. He hates it there, he’s miserable, he’s constantly trying to figure out what he actually wants to do with his life.
It’s late when he gets there and the hotel is fully booked because of a concert happening.
He gets his key card after waiting for 30 minutes to check in.
He opens the hotel room door to find it is already occupied by a guy with a whole lot of tattoos all over his very naked and still dripping from a shower body.
Obviously he panics a bit and wonders how the hell this could’ve happened and Eddie panics a little because of safety (turns out he’s the singer of the band performing the following night!)
They try to call the front desk but the line is busy and Steve already dreads having to go back and wait in the line downstairs.
Eddie offers to let him just stay and they’ll fix it in the morning.
“Plenty of room in a king for both of us.”
Which may be true, but Steve is an octopus when he shares a bed and he knows he will end up in Eddie’s space. Should he warn him? Probably. Does he? Absolutely not.
Steve rushes through a shower and hops into bed, making small talk with Eddie about his life in a band, ignores questions about what he does as much as he can because he doesn’t feel like explaining he’s just a puppet for his dad’s never ending business career.
He falls asleep listening to Eddie’s soft, deep tone.
And of course when he wakes up, he’s got his legs and arms wrapped around Eddie anywhere he can reach. His drool is drying on Eddie’s chest and he’s coming to terms with the fact that his dick was definitely pressed against Eddie’s thigh.
Eddie’s kind enough not to say anything about it, just squeezes Steve’s arm and continues petting his hair.
It’s nice, too nice.
Steve has to get up. He’s got things to do today and if he’s late, his dad will hear about it and berate him for hours.
Shit, even if he’s on time he’ll probably find some other reason to berate him for hours.
“What’s wrong?” Eddie asked.
“Hm? Oh. Just don’t really wanna get up.”
“Then don’t. I don’t have anywhere to be until soundcheck after lunch.”
And now Steve has no choice but to explain his job and why he’s here, how his dad is relying on him to network and find potential mergers. How he hates putting on the Harrington face to please everyone.
It’s easy to admit it to Eddie, especially with Eddie’s arms wrapped around him, holding him like he could actually protect him from anything his father tries to say to hurt him.
“You don’t like your job.”
It’s not a question.
“Does anyone really like their job?”
“I do.”
“Well, you’re a rockstar. Of course you do. But I can’t be a rockstar.”
“Maybe not. But what is your rockstar?”
Steve had never been asked that, not even by guidance counselors in high school. They all knew he’d work for his father. He got a business degree for his father. He owned more suits than sweatpants for his father.
“I…don’t know.”
“Maybe you could try figuring it out.”
“It’s not that easy.”
“No, it’s not. But you could still try.”
So Steve sent a message to his dad’s partner, let him know he was fighting food poisoning from the in-flight meal and couldn’t make it to the conference today. He watched as Eddie threw on some clothes, mussed up his hair instead of brushed it, and quickly shoved his things into his bag.
“I should get out of your hair, try to get the room thing fixed.”
Eddie looked at him, looked at the alarm clock by the bed, down at Steve’s bag.
“How many days are you packed for?”
“Uh, four, technically. Trip was supposed to be three, but I always have an extra in case there’s flight delays or-“
“Come with me.”
“To…soundcheck?”
“On tour.”
Steve was an idiot, his father made sure he knew it as often as possible. But he couldn’t just go on tour with a stranger.
Could he?
What was he really doing here?
He hated his job, hated his dad, hated not having a clear path in front of him.
And this certainly wasn’t a clear path; He barely knew this guy, and hadn’t even heard his band. But it was a trail, the start of a path that could lead him somewhere he’d actually like to be.
Maybe he could take this chance.
Robin would tell him to do it, if she weren’t in Antarctica studying penguins for three months, only able to call once a week to check in.
What would she say if she called him and he was backstage at a heavy metal concert?
She’d probably say he’s lost his damn mind, but she’d be glad he did.
“Well, I am a rockstar. I could afford to have you around.”
“Im not sure I could really afford to when my dad fires me,” Steve sighed, reality hitting him a little too quickly.
“I’m not really willing to be, like, your kept boy or anything,” Steve felt himself flush.
“I’m not really willing to have a kept boy,” Eddie smirked, joining him on the bed again, legs crossed in front of him. “But I’d definitely be happy to have someone who can help our tour manager out. You’d be working, though the jobs kind of boring.”
“More boring than sitting in an office five days a week and meeting with old white dudes who haven’t done anything but work their lives away for 40+ years?”
“Nah, way better than that. Sometimes you’ll have to deal with Gareth’s moods, but I promise to make it worth your while.”
“How’s that?”
“I’ll leave that up to you,” Eddie very obviously checked him, eyes trailing over Steve’s bare chest. “I’m open to negotiating.”
“And if I want a kiss?”
“Then a kiss you’ll have.”
“And if I want you to fuck me?”
“Then you’ll have to sign some paperwork,” Eddie laughed. “But that can be arranged too.”
So Steve left with Eddie, four days of clothes in his bag, no idea what he’d even tell his dad or anyone else, and no clue exactly what his new job would entail.
All he knew was Eddie seemed to be made just for him, chaos and hyperactivity included, and Steve wasn’t gonna give that up now. Even if it made no sense, even if it was ridiculous to gain a new job and new rockstar boyfriend in less than 24 hours, even if his next call with Robin was a combination of her yelling about his impulsive behaviors and congratulations for finally doing something for him.
Even if he was more of a VIP groupie for the band than an employee of the tour manager.
Steve finally found something he wanted.
If he sent his dad’s calls to voicemail, that was because he was too busy walking his new path.

You’re right. Too many people get birds just because they see them and think they’re cute but they’re a lot of work
Absolutely! That's why it's so important to me that I warn people about what it's like to have a pet bird. They are loud, they are messy, they are needy, they are expensive, and they are delicate. They're also often incredibly long-lived!
I specifically talk more about parrots because those are the birds that my brain likes the most, but just about every species of pet bird fits into one or more of those categories. I've wanted a pet bird since i knew it was possible to have one, but I know that, as of right now, I am not capable of properly caring for a pet bird of any kind!
Parrots are absolutely incredible and I love them so, so much; that's why it's so important to me that people understand their needs and the unique challenges that they present.
Someday I will have my own home with a separate room for all my candles and incense and maybe cbd cigarettes, and someday I will have my own income and the space to house a bird. Someday, I will be ready, but I have to recognize that today is absolutely not that day.
And that's okay.
