MDZS is good in that Pride and Prejudice way, where you just want the brooding socially awkward weirdo to get together with the spunky spirited lead because they are clearly so stupidly in love, emphasis on the stupid, and deserve a happy ending gosh darn it and for everything to just work out. Also the social/class commentary is fierce and on point at all times.

Scum Villain on the other hand is good in that Jane Eyre way, where you can’t help but go ‘oh man something is mega wrong with him’ (affectionate) at the main love interest and the main lead isn’t much better. You want to shove both these toxic weirdos under a microscope to understand how on earth their strange relationship works, but you also kind of want it to work out too in a messed up sort of way.
