Therapy For EMDR In Oakland Park, FL
Tumblr media
Your body will say what your mouth won’t say, and you will continue to feel depressed because of what you suppress.
Many of us have mastered the art of suppressing, denying and ignoring traumatic experiences, because being vulnerable may be viewed as weakness, and has never felt safe. There are instances wherein traumatized individuals feel ashamed, alone in the world, and they tend to minimize their suffering. Unprocessed traumas may manifest as: • anxiety • chronic pain • depression • gut issues • lack of sleep, numbness, • social isolation • people-pleasing • recurring toxic relationships • self-hate and chronic shame • unwanted intrusive thoughts, disturbing dreams
In other words, individuals with a traumatized brain often experience symptoms associated with past traumas on a daily basis. Therapies such as EMDR which was developed in the 1980s by Francine Shapiro, a professor at UCLA during her attempts to treat PTSD. EMDR stands for eye-movement, desensitization and reprocessing. EMDR has been very successful in allowing the traumatized brain and body to process traumatic memories naturally, eradicate negative core beliefs and release trapped toxic stress.
EMDR incorporates movements, or bilateral Tapping, and is used to facilitate overall healing. Our therapists are intentional about screening everyone to determine if this form of therapy is ideal to address the issues that are being presented. We have had much success with our use of EMDR to eradicate:
• Anxiety • Depression • Negative core beliefs, • Chronic pain, • Grief anxiety • Self-Sabotage
EMDR requires consistent attendance, mutual trust between therapist and client, and a commitment to doing the work that is necessary to build up a tolerance needed for processing. An EMDR session typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes and the overall effects after each session tends to be positive. One cannot determine with certainty length of time for treatment sessions as it is dependent upon the individual’s overall progress.
You will be in control during EMDR sessions, and are invited to advocate for yourself, and set boundaries as needed during processing. Our team members who specialize in EMDR therapy will guide, support you, and ensure that you are able to receive maximum benefits.

Ramble about our therapy journey
Tumblr media
Seeing a lot of talk of diagnosis had me reflecting on our time with our first threapist, the one that we had been trying to work on seeing as a system (the one that recognised us as a system but not qualified to make the distinction of OSDD or DID), but while trying to build trust with him to get the alters with the more delicate trauma to go to therapy he made a suggestion that broke all trust we had and made continuing to see him useless as we were putting up walls to protect us as we felt he was no longer safe.
There were other things that was building up to that end already such as him pushing for constant progress to goals and when we wouldn't be able to make any progress to those goals more than two weeks consecutively he'd get frustrated with us, him pushing us to do EMDR when we said we felt like we needed more time and making us feel like we were being difficult when we couldn't do things like it was needed for EMDR (I'm fairly certain that we can't make use of that therapy), and him telling us he'd help us make new routines and hold us accountable and then backtracking and implying we aren't taking therapy seriously when we couldn't make and maintain new routines on our own.
What was the final straw is when talking about how we felt as a child hearing the frequent yelling matches our parents would have daily, we always felt like it was our fault our parents fought even when we couldn't point at anything we'd done as being the reason for the fight. We had even told him of the one time that we HAD been the cause of a fight when telling our father about the day we had with our mother and something we said is what started the fight, this just made the guilt we felt when hearing our parents fight so much worse because that was proof to us that we were somehow the cause of all the fights.
We were opening up about a very vulnerable and sensitive trauma only to be told by him that that way of thinking is very narcissistic and self-centered, both of those things have negative connotations to us and we felt like he had told us that we were bad just for believing that we were the cause of our parents' unhappiness (something we learned later is absolutely normal for a child to believe in a volatile family dynamic and not at all narcissistic or self-centered). The alter that holds the traumas of that age was very hurt and felt misunderstood and we all suddenly felt unfairly judged and patronized, and we felt like any further opening up about our trauma would just erase the progress we'd been able to accomplish on our own.
This wad supposed to be a trauma informed therapist, someone that was experienced in trauma, and some one experienced in 'lesser' dissocitative disorders; how can he be experienced with that but not understand what is common in childhood trauma?
We had explained how we come to believe that we had depression (confirmed), anxiety (confirmed), CPTSD (diagnosed as PTSD as CPTSD is not yet official), childhood trauma (confirmed many times over), experienced dissociation (confirmed but not diagnosed by request from us to avoid any discrimination), and had a system (had been recognized but not diagnosed as he wasn't qualified). This we had been able to piece together with very heavy self-reflection and guidance from legitimate online sources, and we've been able to make more progress on healing by doing system work ourselves and seeking therapy for our traumas as a singlet with our current therapist.

can i ask whats the difference between inner child healing and uh age regression? your pinned post stated it's not the same thing.
It's hard to example. I guess for me it's mostly that 'age regression' is more of a lifestyle, and even more so an aesthetic that done online. I struggle with terms like "life styles" being used when folks use terms interchangeable with other terms like "therapy" or "inner child healing" because it's really not if you understand inner child healing or therapy. I've poked a bit at inner child healing, I have books on this topic. The online community I find isn't really inner child healing. It's aesthetic. I mean I do think some things folks like are healing, coloring has been shown to reduce feelings of anxiety, & it can bring on feelings of mindfulness. Watching comforting programs is emotion regulation skills. (as long as it's not used to avoid responsibilities) etc. These are fine coping methods. But, I feel like a lot of age regression is misguided because therapy isn't pretty, it's not pastel and cute. (neither is it ugly. It's treatment thus it changes person to person. Its just an experience. ) Especially when you start seeing terms like "CG" "flip" (sfw term for 'switch' which is a *ish term. ) "little gear" "sfw punishments" (*ish term again adopted) etc. These aren't therapy. I'd argue too they can create more problems. Especially 'punishments' - this applies more shame and embarrassment. Or they are more towards a power dynamic thus they lean more towards *ish. I've done therapy before. And while therapy (intense therapy) does mean you make changes to your life style. (behaviour wise) and you have to work that therapy into a schedule and you do learn new skills and repeat them,(to become masterful) trouble shoot and remove ones you don't find helpful... etc. and grated these things are hard, and people do need reminders. It's certainty not an "aesthetic". It's also not something someone else should have control over. (yes, this is "shade" to 'cgs' and people who claim they need them in order to 'heal'. This isn't healthy and can feel like co-dependency. Which isn't good and can lead to further issues...) Like there is a dynamic that happens with therapy. But I'd argue it's three way. Your outer self, inner self, and then the therapist who speicalizes in fields to help you & who your choosing to work with. But you have the most control, as you are the ones looking to discuss issues with a therapist and your seeking out change. Inner child therapy/healing is a legitimated therapy. It's more around targeting attachment wounds and styles we've picked up thru childhood. (think of things like abandonment etc) It's also about going inner, and exploring pains and feelings you have, that could've been labeled as 'wrong' 'bad' or 'too much'. (i.e. things that bring up shame&embrassement.) Inner child therapies are more so: trauma therapy, Parts Work, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, sensorimotor psychotherapy, somatic work, Gestalt work, art therapy, and story or narrative therapy

Post Therapy Journal
So therapy day today, I just need to process.
No EMDR today, I’m going on a trip and didn’t want to mess with opening up pandoras box before i’m supposed to be relaxing. Well, I would have done EMDR today, but I know my emotions lately have been taking a toll on my husband. I really want to have a good vacation and not be catatonic, ya know.
Because of how I handled my trauma right after I was assaulted, I was in a big life transition from high school to college. I had no choice to slow down and process I had to just continue. I would go 100% and then be just bed ridden if I wasn’t at school or at work or killing myself in the gym bc I hated my body. And then after a while I stupidly got into a relationship that was awful and then went into a destructive phase. I never stopped and processed I just kept going. Like i just put myself on the airport conveyor belt even though I wasn’t moving, because I had to. I’m the oldest, I had to set an example, I had to stay on the path even though I was feeling so awful.
Now that I’m opening all of this up, it’s so heavy. I’ve been bed ridden and so depressed. My social anxiety is horrible. I feel so behind and unproductive bc I cannot get out of bed. I’m like faking it too, my husband is pulling me out of bed in the morning to go on walks and then I’m like putting on a front until he leaves for work and then I’m in bed until 9am when I have to get online for work. I’m doing the bare minimum to show up at work. The end of the day when my husband comes home the fake it switch flips on and I get things done but then I go to bed early but I can’t fall asleep.
I feel like I’m not progressing. I’m not moving forward. It feels so similar to how I felt at 17 and it’s scary. But, today my therapist was trying to get me to realize that maybe what I need is to give myself the space to be catatonic and process in that way because I didn’t allow myself to do that back then. The anxiety I get with the thought of just not doing anything is insane because I feel like I’m failing my husband and not living up to what he wanted our first year of marriage to be. I feel like a dead weight holding him back from where he wants to be in life. I feel broken again and I don’t know how to fix it.

Healing from PTSD: Pathways to Recovery and Resilience
Tumblr media
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It can cause a range of symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and avoidance of triggers related to the trauma. While PTSD can be a debilitating and overwhelming condition, it is important to remember that recovery and healing are possible.
As a psychiatrist in Bhopal, I have worked with many individuals who have struggled with PTSD and have witnessed their journey towards recovery and resilience. In this blog post, I would like to discuss some pathways to healing from PTSD and how individuals can build resilience to cope with their symptoms.
1) Seek professional help: The first step towards healing from PTSD is seeking professional help. A psychiatrist in Bhopal can provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals to share their experiences and work through their trauma. They can also provide evidence-based treatments such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to help individuals process their trauma and manage their symptoms.
2) Build a support system: It is crucial to have a strong support system while recovering from PTSD. This can include family members, friends, support groups, and mental health professionals. Having people who understand and validate your experiences can provide a sense of comfort and help in the healing process.
3) Practice self-care: Individuals with PTSD often struggle with self-care as their symptoms can make it difficult to engage in daily activities. However, taking care of oneself is essential for recovery. This can include getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, exercising, and engaging in activities that bring joy and relaxation.
4) Learn coping skills: Coping skills are tools that can help individuals manage their symptoms and deal with triggers. A psychiatrist in Bhopal can help individuals identify and develop coping skills that work best for them. These can include deep breathing, grounding techniques, and mindfulness practices.
Also Read: Mental Doctor in Bhopal
5) Educate yourself about PTSD: Understanding PTSD and its symptoms can help individuals feel more in control of their condition. It can also help them identify triggers and learn how to manage them. There are many resources available online, but it is important to seek information from reputable sources.

Online Therapy for Complex PTSD: Navigating Healing from the Comfort of Home
Tumblr media
Living with complex post-traumatic stress disorder can be an overwhelming and isolating experience. However, with the advent of online therapy, individuals can now access specialised treatment and support from the comfort of their own homes. In this blog, we'll explore the challenges of living with complex PTSD, the benefits of online therapy, and how it can help individuals navigate their healing journey effectively.
Understanding Complex PTSD
1. Definition and Symptoms
Complex PTSD is a psychological condition that develops in response to prolonged and repeated trauma, such as childhood abuse, neglect, or interpersonal violence. Unlike traditional PTSD, which typically arises from a single traumatic event, complex PTSD is characterised by a range of symptoms that affect a person's emotional regulation, self-concept, and interpersonal relationships.
2. Common Symptoms
Common symptoms of complex PTSD include flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, emotional dysregulation, dissociation, feelings of shame or guilt, and difficulties in forming and maintaining relationships. These symptoms can significantly impair daily functioning and quality of life, making it challenging for individuals to cope with the effects of past trauma.
The Role of Online Therapy
1. Accessibility and Convenience
Online therapy offers individuals with complex PTSD greater accessibility and convenience in accessing specialised treatment and support. By eliminating the need to travel to a therapist's office, online therapy sessions can be easily integrated into individuals' daily routines, making it more convenient for them to prioritise their mental health and well-being.
2. Safe and Comfortable Environment
For individuals with complex PTSD, attending in-person therapy sessions can be triggering and overwhelming. Online therapy provides a safe and comfortable environment for individuals to engage in therapy from the privacy of their own homes, reducing feelings of anxiety or distress associated with traditional therapy settings.
3. Specialised Treatment Options
Online therapy platforms offer specialised treatment options tailored to the unique needs of individuals with complex PTSD. Therapists who specialise in trauma-informed care can provide evidence-based interventions such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) to help individuals manage their symptoms and work through past traumas.
4. Flexibility in Scheduling
Online therapy offers greater flexibility in scheduling appointments, allowing individuals to choose the most convenient times. This flexibility makes it easier for individuals to balance therapy sessions with other commitments such as work, school, or family responsibilities, reducing barriers to accessing treatment.
How Online Therapy Helps Heal Complex PTSD
1. Validation and Empowerment
Online therapy provides individuals with complex PTSD a safe space to share their experiences and feelings without fear of judgement or invalidation. Therapists validate individuals' experiences and empower them to explore their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.
2. Coping Strategies and Skills
Therapists teach individuals with complex PTSD coping strategies and skills to manage their symptoms and improve their overall well-being. These may include techniques for grounding and self-soothing, emotion regulation skills, and strategies for managing triggers and flashbacks in daily life.
3. Processing Traumatic Memories
Online therapy allows individuals with complex PTSD to process traumatic memories and experiences at their own pace. Therapists use evidence-based approaches such as EMDR and narrative therapy to help individuals make sense of their trauma and integrate it into their narrative in a way that promotes healing and growth.
4. Building Resilience and Self-Compassion
Through online therapy, individuals with complex PTSD can build resilience and cultivate self-compassion in the face of adversity. Therapists help individuals recognise their strengths and resources, develop a greater sense of self-compassion, and build resilience to cope with future challenges and setbacks.
Conclusion: Finding Healing and Hope Through Online Therapy
In conclusion, online therapy offers individuals with complex PTSD a pathway to healing, hope, and recovery. By providing specialised treatment options, accessibility, and flexibility, online therapy empowers individuals to navigate their healing journey from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. Whether you're struggling with symptoms of complex PTSD or seeking support for past traumas, online therapy can provide the tools, resources, and guidance you need to heal and reclaim your life.

Healing the Hidden Wounds: Therapy Techniques for Narcissistic Abuse Recovery
The journey to recover from narcissistic abuse is akin to navigating a labyrinth of emotional and psychological challenges. This form of abuse, often invisible and insidious, leaves deep scars that can profoundly affect one's mental well-being. However, healing these hidden wounds is possible with suitable therapeutic approaches and support. This blog delves into the innovative therapy techniques that facilitate recovery from narcissistic abuse and highlights the significance of accessible mental health therapy.
Tumblr media
The Impact of Narcissistic Abuse
Narcissistic abuse encompasses a range of manipulative behaviours aimed at controlling and diminishing the victim's sense of self-worth and autonomy. The aftermath of such abuse often includes anxiety, depression, diminished self-esteem, and, in some cases, PTSD. Acknowledging these impacts is a critical step toward healing.
The Crucial Role of Therapy
Therapy offers a sanctuary for survivors to voice their experiences and emotions in a safe and supportive environment. Specialized therapists play a pivotal role in guiding individuals through the complexities of their emotions, helping them understand and heal from their experiences.
Embracing Online Counseling

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This method aids in identifying and reframing negative thought patterns, fostering a healthier mindset.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): EMDR facilitates the processing of traumatic memories, lessening their emotional impact and aiding recovery.
Mindfulness Practices: Incorporating mindfulness and meditation can help survivors reconnect with the present, mitigating symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Creative Therapies: Art, music, and writing offer alternative avenues for expression, enabling individuals to process emotions that might be difficult to articulate verbally.
Fostering a Community of Support
