Momiji Sohma and his beautiful, complex relationship to Kyo (part 1 of 5)
Tumblr media
So, if Yuki is my favorite character of the main trio, Momiji would have to be my favorite of the large cast of secondary characters. He may even be my favorite character outright- a hard pick, as there are so many characters to love in Fruits Basket!
When it comes to Yuki and Kyo, their relationship to each other and Yuki's relationship to Haru (which is beautiful and now I want to do a post on them, too) are perhaps the two most obvious dynamics among these four boys. But I think Momiji and Kyo have their own important, deep relationship, with huge significance to the plot and to Kyo's arc in particular.
In many ways, Momiji and Kyo's stories are parallels.
They both lost their mothers at a young age. Kyo watched as his mother stepped in front of a train, and Momiji watched as his mother's memories of him were erased (though it's worth noting Momiji's mother was also suicidal). Both watched their mothers suffer for years because of the curse.
Both had a parent who viewed them as sub-human. Momiji's mother referred to him as a "creature," and Kyo's father called him a "monster."
Both also had fathers who put responsibility for their mothers' mental health issues on them and ultimately abandoned or neglected them. And both had loving surrogate father figures who took them in out of guilt, Kyo in Kazuma and Momiji to a lesser extent in Hatori (it does seem like Momiji's father was somewhat present in his life, though Hatori was much more present for him).
They also both had reputations as a bit of a wild child, Kyo because of his short temper and aggression (and stereotypes about the cat), and Momiji because of his id-driven hedonism and frequent lack of supervision. They're both impulsive to a fault, Momiji in pursuit of maximum fun, and Kyo out of extreme self-hatred and a desire to protect the people he cares about (mostly from himself). They each lean into people's misconceptions about them - Momiji encouraging people to underestimate him due to his small size because it allows him to get away with more, and Kyo willing to let people see him as a monster because he believes that's true (and therefore using physical intimidation as his main strategy for protecting people he cares about).
They're also both quite good at reading others - for Kyo, this is remarked upon several times in canon, and for Momiji, he's often cited by fans as possibly the most emotionally mature character in the series.
And they both are at their best when they act a bit more like each other, Kyo when he lightens up and lets himself have fun, and Momiji when he stands up for himself and the people he cares about.
I would even argue that Kyo is the main driver behind Momiji's character development, and that Momiji is the main catalyst for Kyo to understand and accept his feelings for Tohru.
So, with all that in mind, let's look at Momiji's first appearance with Kyo at the first culture festival.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(An aside: Hiroshi's reactions in this scene will never not be funny to me.)
So, the first time we see Kyo and Momiji together is at the first culture festival, when Momiji is officially introduced to Tohru and thus to the reader (after a brief appearance 1 chapter/3 episodes earlier, where we're not entirely sure who he is). In quick succession, Momiji proceeds to:
jump on Yuki's shoulders and tell him he looks like a girl
get scolded by Hatori for running off on his own
excitedly introduce himself and Hatori as relatives of Yuki and Kyo to the crowd of students, making sure to mention that he's half-German
climb on top of the rice stand, frightening everyone, eating a rice ball he probably didn't pay for
get dragged away by a grouchy Kyo, laughing all the way
It's quite a memorable entrance!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But a closer look at this scene suggests that Momiji was causing a stir for Yuki's sake as much as for his own desire to have fun.
he jumps on Yuki right when Yuki's feeling extremely self-conscious about all the attention he's receiving, immediately after both Tohru and Kyo have made comments about his appearance
he climbs atop the riceball stand right when Yuki looks ready to murder Hatori
One could argue that this is just Momiji being his typical wild-child self, especially since he tells Yuki he looks like a girl right when Yuki's at his most self-conscious about his feminine appearance, but it fits with a pattern we see repeated throughout the series: Momiji is willing to make a spectacle of himself if it helps him achieve his goals, whether they are to have more fun or to protect someone he cares about (all the better if it's both!).
I do wonder about that comment - Fruits Basket can be very subtle, so I think there are multiple ways of interpreting Momiji's comment to Yuki. It's possible he made that comment because he didn't know what Yuki was so upset about, or to remind Yuki that of course people are going to talk about what he's wearing when its unusual for him, or maybe for another reason altogether. But what I think is most telling is that he says it without any judgment - it's simply an observation of fact. That, in and of itself, might be enough to help Yuki feel less self-conscious about the whole thing, whether Momiji intended that or not.
As Momiji is dragged off, Hatori reveals to Yuki that they're here because Momiji brought home the flier Tohru dropped when they met 3 episodes/1 chapter earlier. He also reveals that Akito wanted to come, to Yuki's terror, but was too ill, so Hatori is here in her place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Kyo drags Momiji away, we see the first iteration of their play big-brother/little-brother dynamic. Kyo's been trying to scold him this whole time, and Momiji fake cries that Kyo "hit" him, but he immediately beams when he realizes Tohru is right behind them.
Kyo probably gave Momiji a light rap on the head or something while scolding him (we know Kyo's a skilled martial artist who knows better than to fight people without training), and Momiji overreacted because teasing Kyo is fun and that's their "thing." But what's super interesting to me is that the only other person Kyo has scolded up until now or given a knock on the head is the only person we know he cares about and wants to protect: Tohru. So, even though outwardly, Kyo seems angry and annoyed at Momiji, he's treating him the way he treats people he cares about and wants to protect.
Momiji then goes over to Tohru, where he:
tells her he came specifically to see her
FLIRTS WITH HER IN FRONT OF KYO ("Ja! Fate brought us together that day, huh?")
tells her his papa owns the building where she works and he likes to hang out there
and confirms she knows the Zodiac secret before announcing his plans to hug her
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kyo physically prevents Momiji from hugging her and they have this INCREDIBLE exchange.
Kyo: "Hold it, Romeo. Remember where you are." Momiji: "Keeping Tohru all to yourself just because you like her? I bet you hug her every day!" Kyo: *blushes* "As if I'd do that!" *drops Momiji* Momiji: *jumps into Tohru's arms* "Gotcha!"
At this point in the story, I doubt that either Kyo or Momiji feel the deep, romantic love they both feel for Tohru by the end of the series. But if we accept that they both have at least a crush on her by now, they're going about it in completely opposite ways. Momiji openly wants to hug Tohru as often as possible and spend as much time with her as he can, whereas Kyo wants to avoid making Tohru uncomfortable and avoid any semblance of impropriety that could reflect poorly on her.
So, Momiji hugs Tohru and transforms, and Tohru's classmates pull back the curtain and start asking questions about what happened. How do they get out of this situation?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, Yuki takes a lesson from Momiji's earlier actions, making a spectacle of himself to protect the family secret (and therefore Tohru).
So, in summary, in Momiji's first appearance:
he shows Yuki it's okay to play up the aspects of yourself that make you different in pursuit of a goal
we clearly see that his crying at Kyo's scolding is an act
he immediately notices and calls out Kyo's feelings for Tohru to trick Kyo into letting him go
he generally just does whatever he wants, including hugging Tohru, in stark contrast to Kyo, whose approach to life seems to be all about denying himself what he wants because he doesn't believe himself worthy (which is the exact opposite of the advice he gives Tohru, that it's okay to be selfish sometimes)
We see that Momiji is much smarter than he lets on, but also that he has a lot of growing to do, and that he and Kyo are opposites in many ways.
I'll leave you with these cute shots from S2 (because they didn't fit with any of the other posts), where we see their big brother/little brother dynamic was already in place in elementary school. (Also, poor Yuki!)

a friend of mine who isn't into Death Note asked me why people ship Lawlight. I gave her a pretty good answer but I feel that couldn't encapsulate it fully and you are the most articulate/analyzer person I can think of here, can you help me?
omg, I'm flattered you think that, but a bit worried I won't be able to speak for everybody about this! I'll probably just have to mostly say why I like to ship it and hopefully that will suffice...
1) the constant tension and the mind games between them is the heart and soul of the series to me. Light's a complicated character that is both very entertaining to follow and also sort of an infuriating bastard to watch as well, so when L waltzes in being like "HOLD ON A MINUTE HERE I KNOW IT'S YOU AND I'M DEFINITELY GONNA PROVE IT" and Light both seems to get extremely excited about how clever he is and also horrified and determined not to lose, that makes for a very charged dynamic that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Light's curiously positive reactions to L opposing him, as well as the way L intuitively understands him and pushes his buttons so effectively, is definitely one of the funniest and most intriguing things to watch in the entire show.
2) there's a lot going on in the narrative to continuously draw parallels between them and to sort of suggest that they're the true equal and peer that the other one has never actually had their entire lives, the solution to the boredom and loneliness and aloof superiority they've both been feeling due to their above-average intelligence and privileged positions and ambitious competitive stubborn streaks and so on. People love that and also find it super tragic/angsty or fascinatingly ironic and darkly funny that they end up only meeting in an enemies, "you're the closest thing to a real friend I've ever had but one or the other of us will have to die" sort of way
3) This part of their relationship also gets me as well - they probably would not have easily met if Light HADN'T been Kira, because L never has to meet any of the people he works alongside nor any of the criminals he catches in person - Light was just good enough at being a criminal to force L to meet him in person, basically. And there's also no guarantee that if they DID meet in other circumstances that they would have clicked so weirdly well as they do, because their cat and mouse game was probably the best way they could both impress each other the most and prove their own intelligence and entertainingness to each other as well. The immense difficulty of setting up this ship so that it actually works is part of the enduring appeal to me.
4) I think there's just a lot of intrigue to how much is left unsaid between them the entire time. They literally never get to have an actual straightforward heart-to-heart even once in the story, but they're seen obsessively thinking about each other the entire time (and Light continues to do so for years after L's death, even to the point of comparing everyone else who opposes him to L unfavorably after his death and admitting he feels bored again now that L is gone). I think a lot of fans were kind of dying to see them interact in a more straight-forward way
5) the handcuffs are certainly fairly suggestive and kinky hahaha... and the memory loss arc definitely brings up a lot of interesting "what if" type scenarios in every shipper's mind. Not everybody is convinced that they really hate each other, and seeing them work together on the case like that causes a lot of people to think about how they might get along if Light had never picked up the notebook in the first place. The fandom has a lot of people who really like the idea of them together whenever Light isn't Kira, and also a lot of people who think their dynamic is superior and works better when Light IS Kira - and having both of these different dynamics between them presented to us in canon makes for even more interesting possibilities to explore

Can we start a discussion? When it comes to Teen Wolf & Shipping. Do you know of any other age difference ships that don't get as much pushback that Sterek does? Such as Marrish, Because despite the antis complaining against it it's still in the top 3 ships of all time.
haha so we've chosen violence this morning.
@dear-massacre and i have brought this up before.
teen wolf is not the show to be watching if you're looking for "unproblematic" content. age gap ships have always been like at the bottom of issues with the show lol.
sterek is the ship that has always gotten the most push back. mostly because of it's exposure and the way the show queerbaited the fuck outta it. it's the one most people are aware of even if they haven't watched the show. therefore, it's the one that gets the focus.
hold on to your butts.
now i didn't watch s5 till the show had ended but people did find the age gap concerning and gross between jordan and lydia despite lydia being 18 at the time.
lydia turned 18 in season 4. natalie and her discuss this at the lake house i believe in time of death. this makes the birthday we see for lydia in party guessed her 17th birthday.
parrish tells jared in riddled that he's 24. by the time of 5a which takes place during the first semester of lydia's senior year 2012 she would've still been 18 and he would've been 25 because 3b was the first semester of their junior year 2011 so 5a is a year later.
jordan and lydia have a 7 year difference. while their age gap is concerning because of the power dynamics jordan wasn't grooming her and it wasn't illegal. i think the writing shifted to try to imply that they were drawn to each other because of the banshee and hellhound connection.
jordan giving those andy dwyer vibes.
Tumblr media
now let's take a look at thiam. a pretty popular and accepted ship.
theo is the same age as our core characters. he is in their grade and knew them when he was young.
our baby beta liam was a freshman when he was introduced so that makes him a sophomore when theo is introduced in 5a.
by the time theo and liam become frenemies the age difference between them is basically the original age difference from the pilot presentation script as derek and stiles.
Tumblr media
aiden and ethan were both romantically and sexually involved with lydia and danny in season 3 despite making it clear they were only pretending to be high schoolers. they may have been in their early 20s but they were adults fucking minors by deception.
danny's whole dating history is suspect too due to it being implied he had an older boyfriend and he was seen going to a gay club. like what. he's supposed to be the same age as our core gang. he did have a mild thing for matt though who was at least a peer.
there's also harris being shown to be at the rave with a much younger woman (21 he says). like bruh. this is never addressed.
mason and corey. liam and hayden. stiles and malia. lydia and jackson. allison and isaac. scott and allison. lydia and stiles. scott and kira. paige and derek.
those are all age appropriate actual canon relationships. i would also add derek and braeden too.
no one gives one episode wonder heather shit about kissing stiles nonconsensually either.
derek's age is never canonically given but like c'mon. in s1 he doesn't act that much older than scott and stiles. he acts like their peer.
jeff and the writers did age him up a bit because they realized they made derek 13 when he was involved with kate. they were uncomfortable with him that young and instead pushed it up to near 16. (still fucked).
i've seen it discussed on the subreddit (🤮) and people seem to deluded themselves into thinking derek was older when he and kate were involved. ding dong they are wrong.
visionary tells us plainly that derek and paige were sophomores (hello scott parallels) and kate got her nasty hands on him not long after paige died.
i think after sterek the most discussed age gap issue discussed is derek's seduction/enticement of erica. it was definitely out of pocket and questionable behavior on his part but it is rarely brought up by the antis that erica jumped him and kissed him nonconsensually later. or the manipulation and rape by deception jennifer commits.
notice a theme? people age up derek to try to say what kate did wasn't grooming and statutory rape and deny that what jennifer did was also rape. they'll deny derek any and all victimhood while turning it around on him calling him an abuser towards stiles and basically calling him a pedophile because of the sterek ship. antis really want to make a canonical victim of multiple instances of sexual abuse into the abuser.
or worse they'll call real life people these things over a fictional ship.
where have i heard this kind of narrative before i wonder? 🙄
besides, derek only does the steering wheel thing in retaliation for stiles using his body as enticement for danny without his permission. stiles is the one who did the bad thing and crossed a boundary. it's not nice or really acceptable for derek to harm stiles like that but there's context to the action. it wasn't random. it was pointed. he never does anything like this again and in fact spends a vast majority of his time trying to protect stiles.
nothing sexual or even overtly romantic occurred between derek and stiles in canon. their only crime was having too much chemistry.
the antis are mad because people ship sterek and it's not even canon. it's all fanon. sure i'm of the belief a deep connection and attraction is there between them but it's all subtextual and never acted on by either party.
let me reiterate this: antis are mad over a hypothetical ship of two fictional characters that never happened in the source material.
besides, by the time the show ends and i mean the last, last scene there's been a 2 year time jump. when the show ends it's 2015. stiles would've been 20 fucking years old and by the time of the movie he's in his 30s.
i think by then he'd be allowed to ride derek's dick off into the sunset if he wanted.

Give me a 12, 13 and 22 for rhys, soldier 🫵
FELLOW RHYS ENJOYER (krotiation I LOVE YOUR ART TOO SM GAAAAH THIS FANDOM HAS SUCH GREAT ARTISTS)
12. What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?
I have in total, three AUs I have to finally write anything for fhasfsa (I do plan on posting Tales AU first chapter this week tho!!). 1) RHYS AI AU is something you saw me post snippets of - in general, it's an alternative version of Borderlands 2, where Jack kills Lilith and Roland very quickly and survives. Due to mourning for Nisha, Wilhelm and Angel, he one day writes code for a companion based on an imaginary friend he had but also, gives him some trait of each one of those he misses. While Rhys was going to slowly become the silly personality we know and love, this was my typical 'give the character therapy when they don't want it, and end up with them hurting someone else and trying to change'. 2) JUST WING IT AU is my Tales AU that starts with changes in ep 5, with how Rhys handles the news about Jack wanting to get that exoskeleton in him and focusing on exploring Jack's loneliness and adding him as the third character, making sort of second season for the game. The additional driving point would be that Loader Bot would be able to grab Gortys and run off with her, so the search for Vault would become longer Yet the AU I really hope to start exploring in the future, is this one: 3) Loss of what once happened but never before AU. It's a Borderlands 3 Rhack au that would focus on Rhys finding out he is a siren with huge time-travelling powers and the costs that come with it. He would turn back in time, when Jack was still known as John during the nights, and watch some of the consequences happen in the present during the day. He doesn't know though just how strong the butterfly effect will be...
13. What's a character or ship you haven't written/drawn yet but would like to someday?
Characters: Timothy, Angel, Nisha, Zer0, Katagawa, Axton, Moxxi, Lilith, Roland
Ships: Rhysothy, Rhack, JackxNisha, MoxxixTimothy, Rhysagawa, Axton x Turret (cus she is my wife I luv her)
(The list prob isn't finished cus I still have to finish playing the second game and play the third one oifhaiof)
22. Give us headcanons for Rhys
He actually likes fashion and likes casual official style in general.
He has a sweet tooth but pretends to like spicy food in college.
He actually had a heterochromia before the echo eye and decided to keep it.
He admired Jack a bit but he laughed at psycho fans, as he has some critical thinking.
Even a few years after getting Atlas running again, he still tries to make some guns himself, even if he doesn't have as much time.
He was the one dumped by his ex girlfriend even if he didn't like their dynamic because he was actually scared nobody else would be into him.
He spends a lot of time in the morning preparing his hair. It's quite wavy which gets visible in wetter climates but fortunately for him, he lives mostly in dry ones.
He met Katagawa and at first, couldn't believe he had a fan even if he had some boosted ego but felt something off about him. He turned off an invitation to Zanara because he still thinks about his talk with Vaughn about being good at faking cool. That's why he is even more awkward in future games, since while chasing the younger years, he wants to show he matured, hoping that maybe that will bring Sasha back. That's also why he got the moustache - to show he is becoming more serious. Which fails miserably.
He seemed the most confident in his new Atlas CEO stage because he had to look like it. There was nobody else to help him at the time, so he tried his best to do what he had done - acted the plan out.
He still imagines his plans the same way he did in Tales - with fantasies.

hello, currently enjoying your lord of amara story and it is torturing me in all sorts of ways. don't normally enjoy abo stories but your writing is captivating!
but have to ask something. as a trans myself, keep seeing the medicine 💉 Cas uses as an allegory for hrt, was this intentional at all? obviously abo dynamics and gender dysphoria aren't one to one, but my brain is mush and won't let it go.
either way thank you for writing it! looking forward to more of your ideas coming through.
Hello! Thank you for giving the story a try! I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far! ♥
In parts! It is probably as close as it gets to HRT in this fantasy 19th century a/b/o society. Though I’d say it’s not intended to be an allegory for HRT due to the negative connotations the medicine has. I would maybe argue that it is rather an allegory for the harm we might do to ourselves to fit into the expectations other people have for us.
But this is mostly due to the nature of the set up for the story that uses Cas being blindsided by being an omega and consequently forced to suppress being an omega as the catalyst for drama. If his father would not have forced him into the role of successor in a society that only accepts alpha sons as successors he might have felt comfortable being an omega. So I think Cas' trouble with his presentation is situational and the use of the use of the medicine is understood as a sacrifice he brings for the sake of his family, not necessarily because he makes the choice to be an alpha. But because he has no other choice.
Since I’m writing this fic for self-indulgence, this fic will mostl likely take the scenic route to tell an omega Cas story. That said there are hints in the narration that point towards Cas being somewhat critical of other characters pushing the fact that he’s an omega and that he must come to term with his body and the new set of expectations and odd rules that come with it. And again, being able to openly be an omega is tied to Dean's promise to him. So that might also be an issue. I try to sprinkle in some points every now and then that Cas did grow up as an alpha and that he was also very good at being an alpha.
But at the end of the day I’m not really the kind of author who tells you how I want my fic to be interpreted. ;3 I'm also not particularly good at telling you about the thoughts behind my writing because it took me like two hours to write this answer X'D

~ Debt repaid in full ~
Yan!Childe x Weapon!Y/n
Note: I’m trying to explore my SoulEaterXGenshin AU with this headcanon/fic. Sorry that it got kinda sloppy at the end!! I’ll probably publish my overview of the au sometime but I keep on adding to it with many big-brain ideas. I’ll be opening requests for the au or just suggestions or questions about it! The next character I’ll be exploring will be Zhongli because I’ve been basing all my Archon headcanons with him, so it’ll be the easiest to write for! Also, I wrote this with Y/N being a chain spear weapon but it’s only brought up once, so g/n weapon?
Word Count: 1k
Warnings: semi-detailed gore (mostly just blood), nonmajor character death, unhealthy dynamic, and relationship, Mentions of heavy violence, Childe just being a menace <;/3
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
The tales from the few delusion weapons that have worked with Childe tell of the many bloodbaths they’ve witnessed. Stories ranging from how he laughed as an enemy begged for mercy before reveling in the final blow to the wet sounds of the blood splashing underneath his shoes following where ever he went. But you could never guess that the man who killed hundreds of Meisters and weapons with only his vision and delusion was the same with the ever-so-charming laugh and showed the utmost kindness to his family. The complete 180 in personality from a cold-blooded murderer to a charming young man could give anyone whiplash. Childe has never sought to make a contract with a weapon himself, only ever using his vision, which changed upon meeting you.
He first took an interest in you when he was stationed in Lyiue, helping to collect debtors who had been causing issues for the Fatui. This client has been failing to repay the loan they took from the Northland Bank for a few months, so it was up to him to step in where his lackeys failed. But what he didn’t expect was for you to step between him and your friend. You’ve known of Fatui’s methods of collecting a debt; many people ‘suddenly go missing’ after getting behind on their payments. So when you saw your meister being cornered by one of them, you couldn’t just stand aside. Pleading, begging almost, that you would get the money to repay them, you just needed more time.
He admired your will to be able to stand up to a harbinger. The wildfire that lit up your eyes caused his pulse to skip a beat, like the adrenaline rush from battle. That was the day your ‘love’ story began.
His interest in you only grew the longer he watched you. How do you take up various jobs around Liuye to help your friend with their due debts? He was thrilled beyond belief when he watched you help clear out some hillcurlers bothering an elderly couple on the outskirts of town. The question of if he would ever make a contract with a weapon came back to him as he saw your arm shift into a chain spear. You moved akin to a dance, moving your body to the rhythm of your attacks, doing quick work of the hillcurlers. He was so fixated on you that he didn’t even notice how he had started to shake in anticipation and a growing beaming smile that uncannily stretched his face.
After his little watching session, he researched everything about you that he could find, memorizing the tiniest details from your favorite flower to your preferred sleeping position. He even went as far as to show up unexpectedly by you, revealing how your body went stiff. He’d try his charms on you, mixing flirtatious remarks with the ever-so-present time limit until the debt was due. He was quickly becoming somewhat of an acquaintance, much to your disappointment. But what he didn’t think of (or want) was finding out that the friend he initially came to get debt from was your meister. He’d show at night when your returning from a job, taking advantage of your worn-out self to try and plant seeds of doubt in your mind about how you are so much better than your current meister. It didn’t matter whatever relationship you had with this person; the only thing that mattered was that they were in his way of making you his.
The cool night air served as a sort of tranquility that you could lose yourself in any day. That is if there wasn’t a menace walking beside you, serving as a walking reminder of the approaching due date for the mora. You had lost interest in whatever he was talking about, being too exhausted from clearing out monsters for the past few hours to care. You didn’t need to be nagged and taunted by some harbinger who took it upon himself to annoy you daily.
Your autopilot walking was interrupted when the ginger abruptly stepped in front of you, leaning down to be at eye level with you. “I don’t get it, really,” he began, staring at you as if he could look into your soul for an answer, “ Why do you even stay with that meister? You’re practically being held back by them. You need someone more...experienced than them!” He chuckled, seeing you glare at him, trying to sidestep around him, but he got in front of you again. Being so close to his face, you could see his eyes' hollowness that you didn’t notice before. “Someone like me.” With how quickly he changed, he returned to the annoying carefree Childe you were used to—laughing at how you looked like you saw a ghost.
The rest of the walk had a heavy air as his words echoed in your head.
When the extended time limit came, you and your meister brought the exact amount to the Northland bank where childe was uncharacteristically quiet when the sack of mora was laid out in front of him. You can feel as if time had stopped when Childe presents that while you had gotten the payment for the loan, it had increased in the extended time he gave you. But he is not anything but generous and offers a compromise, saying he’ll erase all of your meisters debt if you agree to unify your contract with them and, in return, make one with him♡.
You’re both stunned and bewildered by his proposal. However, from how a sly smile creeps up on his face, you know he means every word. The audacity of the man in front of you. He so casually dehumanized you into a simple object that could be traded in a contract. Thankfully you and your meister both rejected his proposal, asking if there was anything else.
He pretended to ponder the idea before stating that there was a way to settle this fairly, practically eating up your full undivided attention on him. He would challenge your meister to a duel, hardly hiding the fact that this was his plan. The vision at his hip pulsing to life as your meister begrudgingly accepted. You could only watch as the gruesome match began. You wanted to look away so many times as the screams of your now late meister rang through the air.
You didn’t even notice the tears streaming down your face as Childe walked to you, his prize. Staring down at you with those soulless eyes looked down at your crouched figure. He took off his bloodied glove and brushed your tears off as he cradled your cheek. Tilting your face upwards to meet his gaze, “I look forward to our newly formed contract (first)!” beaming a smile that didn’t match his void-like eyes.
Childe would make you his right hand in the Fatui, taking you away from Lyiue to his home in Snezhnaya. He doesn’t need to chain you down when your contract does it for him, detailing your obedience to stay by his side. He takes pride in wielding your weapon form, proving that he is better than your old partner. That you should be thankful, he decided to help bring out your true potential, only under him, of course. You’ve taken to just trying to block out all the cries and screams of the people victim to the harbinger, though you haven’t been able to wash the iron smell from you for months now.
New rumors of the infamous 11th Harbinger started circling through the low-ranking members and weapons in the Fatui. Tales of how where ever he fought, there would only be him and his weapon standing victor in the end. Dancing in a blood-filled ballroom, the red floor reflecting the sinful dance like a mirror—capturing how his hands tighten around your hand and waist, pulling you along to his rhythm—a mere victim to the beat of his war drum.

Random creepypasta character hcs VOL. 3(?)
Lost count on these but yeah I wanna drop more headcannons!!!
Tumblr media
Nina is genderfluid and uses any pronouns! They also wear binders every now and then + they wear pride jewelry
Also they dye their hair like. A few shades lighter because he likes how the roots look when they grow out!! Same note they dye their own hair!!
I'm sorry for really focusing on nina but I've been flashing my design for her; but she also wears fake fangs
Before eyeless jack became eyeless, he has heterochromia! One eye was brown and the other was more gold!
Obligatory "I hc that ej and nina would be friends" but they do each others nails and would help each other put together outfits
A majority of eyeless Jack's shirts are band shirts
The neighborhood, TV girl, hollywood undead, mother mother, ICP, ect ect are a few of his favorites! Granted I think his wardrobe would become more limited since he lives in the woods alone in my au...
Still focusing on EJ, in my au before he got all.. monsterified... I feel like he was studying to be a doctor
Ironic and kinda messed up considering now he's forced to dissect people to sustain his own body but yeah
I'm pretty sure I said this before but I'll say it again since I love the concept; but Ben 99% of the time is bound to electronic devices. Basically meaning you'll rarely, if ever, see him drag himself out. Even when he does it takes a lot out of him, and he can only wander for so long until he has to go back
More au stuff but to help give jill her own unique vibe and stuff, I designed her to look like those old dolls you'd see way back then. You know the ones, with the porcelain faces and ragdoll-like bodies!! She still has her black and white clown look but yeah!! Due to this she also has visible tears and stitches on her; mainly on the limbs!! I also kinda wanna give her a sort of lolita dress look, if I ever draw her again! Give her loads of frills and stuff
Tying this all off since shes made to resemble a doll shes short 😔☝️ a moment of silence for lady
She can still stretch her limbs like jack, though
Though tbh idk if jill could do that or not <\3 but shh it's my au
Jane is much more... well idk the right wording, but I guess shes more masc presenting in my hc/au? She doesnt wear a dress or pair of heels like her canon look
I adore her canon look dont get me wrong, but I feel like considering that shes gunning for Jeff, that isnt too practical; esp considering jeff is.... something else
Basically wears stuff that's easier to run in, add some protection to her if she falls, swap the heels out with running shoes, no dangly accessories, ties her hair back. If not she'd definitely cut it down short
She still has her mask, though, but its a prosthetic she made/received herself since I dont think she'd want to touch the one jeff gave her
So yeah!!
Also I feel like, out of most the creepypastas, she has the best chance of living her own life in society; she only has intention to end game jeff, but asides that shes just. Mostly normal. Shes in therapy for her trauma, she has a job, she lives in her own place, ect
Oh that also reminds me! I keep rattling in about "my au" this, "my au" that, but I havent actually... released anything about it outside of headcannons
Idk if it'll be out in written fanfics, or as comics, or just one shot half au-accurate drawings or WHAT but
Basic run down of the au; time skip has taken place, havent decided a set amount of years, but it's been long enough that characters (that age) like jeff or jane are in their 20s (so like anywhere between 7-13ish years)
Slender still has his mansion, but it's hardly like anything the old fandom had,, it's no where near as huge or extravagant; its about as good as an abandoned mansion can be with little to no access to materials to upkeep it, and hardly anyone lives in it
Also same area ej lives, but they don't interact much and have a tense dynamic; both refuse to change locations
Still fleshing out the mansion idea!! So this is subject to change!!
Anywaus
Obviously characters who dont age/are ghosts/undead dont change ages; so like ben and sally are still the same, and the same applies to others like
Uuuuuh
Puppeteer, laughing jack and jill, slender and his brothers (this au does not include THAT one, fuck that one, we only have splendor and trender here), zalgo
Oh speaking of zalgo! He exists!! They don't really have a physical/tangible form though, hes more so a concept/untouchable entity that corrupts whatever it touches and causes chaos
Anyways
Also eyeless Jack's aging is... slowed; not by much but yeah!! Side effect of his curse and the whole "his body is changing into something horrific", and the slow age thing is a whole thing about the curse trying to extend his life span in order to cause more damage to himself and others
Real goofy stuff
Anyways
Laughing jack lives in his lil box and mostly transfers from person to person via the box being passed around
Be it garage sales or being sold in a goodwill, he eventually finds a new family to torment
No one suspects the old ass jack in the box!!!!
Ysah that's about it
Sits
Anyways yall should totally send me In requests (please read my pinned first!!)

turn week day 2: content creator appreciation day!
Fair warning, this is mostly going to be rp blog related because that's the corner of the fandom I'm in mostly. I write on here and cabbxges-and-kings.
1. @annastrxng I always really treasure our threads from Hewlett to Abe to Rogers. I really love our Anna & Abe thread, even if it was crack related because of the cabbage cake. I feel like we have bridged the gap between Abe and Anna and how the writers gave them little to no chemistry. We have added more life to their ship than the writers ever cared to do. I always enjoy the chaotic nature of Rogers and Anna interacting and his dynamic with Philomena, both people wronged by Andre and their circumstances to where they come together by a mutual need of revenge. I also enjoy our Annlett threads and the idea of Ellie in the mix of s4, strengthening Hewlett's character arc in that season. I feel like nobody has the best grasp of Anna but you. I also really treasure our one thread of Hewlett and Elizabeth bonding over pirates, haha.
2. @honorhearted We've been writing for so long, I can't possibly talk about all our threads together. I fondly look back on our Hewlett & Ben Horse Girl Book ClubTM thread and can't help but imagine what could've happened in the show if they met personally. That thread really helped me develop Hewlett as a whole with how his past impacts the present. We also finished what the writers didn't care to finish between Rogers and Ben. Also the Abe and Ben bonding moments. You listen to my random ideas and you're always willing to interact with whoever, so I really appericate that. Thank you for joking around with me in dms and supporting my madness and to continue writing with me for 2 years.
3. @pagetreader A new mutual of mine. I always enjoy the thought and the depth in all your ocs and I can't help but notice how well you write Peggy. I really need to get to our drafts, but I'm really looking forward to exploring more with your ocs and seeing where our dynamics take us!
4. @calamity-bean This is a random mention because you aren't a roleplay blog, haha. But I've looked through your meta analysis of turn and I love every single one! I also loved your fic! I know you don't post turn content anymore, but I just wanted to mention you because I loved the way you explored the characters when turn was running. I also really enjoy your artwork in general.
5. @multipleoccupancy We haven't written in a while due to our busy schedules, but I still look over our stuff in my drafts. I'm always fond of Hewlett and to find another who appreciates him as I do and writes him with my muses is always a joy. I feel like you have a really good grasp of his voice and his mannerisms that I can't help but read your threads for him on my dash.
6. @anoseforrottenapples Best Mary hands down. I feel like Rose captures Mary perfectly to where she could've wrote her herself. I'm always amazed with her depth into Mary's background that all her headcanons are basically canon in my mind when I think of Mary. Rose is also very sweet and is always super supportive of my ocs, I couldn't appericate her more for it.
7. @retrograderesemblance I can't even begin to talk about all our dynamics throughout the year we've been writing, haha. I love how chaotic to complex our dynamics have gotten over time. I still re-read our threads from time to time. I think Lydia wouldn't be the oc she is today if she didn't interact with your muses. I always enjoy our ooc madness and how we can go from that to complex plot meta chatter. I really treasure all our threads, new and old, and I love how our writing flows so well together (and how our muses are almost seamless in the way they naturally interact with one another, like Sarah and Sean for instance).

4. which muse of yours is your all time favorite? if you stopped writing them: why?
10. what genre do you most enjoy, whether in roleplay, or fiction as a whole? (fantasy, period, superhero, etc.)
QUESTIONS FOR MUNS. // @ramshacklestar
4. which muse of yours is your all time favorite? if you stopped writing them: why?
I have a group of muses who are my all-time favorites. 1st main blorbo: Mukuro Rokudo from KHR The first main antagonist of the first season of the series, but eventually joins the main character's team. Reasons why he did so is... a bit complicated, but he is possibly my first muse and the muse that resembles Jade the most. I still love him but the fandom fell out of popularity and there were hardly any rp blogs for the fandom. I've never actually left the fandom. The fandom itself died for a while, so I simply moved on to other fandoms.
2nd main blorbo: Narsus from Arslan Senki Arslan Senki is so far my favourite fandom in terms of rp experience and content quality. It's possibly the fandom where I met most of my current friends, especially @oftwilight, @madakoka, and @corruptiongifted, and a lot of us are in different fandoms now but we still talk from time to time. Narsus is a rebellious aristocrat in ancient Persia who joined the prince in his main quest to retake his kingdom. Sybil (@oftwilight) played a great Daryun and our muses often fought and squabbled like an old married couple bc that's also their canon dynamic. The fandom had a total of 10+/- people, and we were all friends due to how small it was so everyone knew everyone. I stopped writing Narsus because I fell out of the fandom when the last light novel dropped and it was... bad. We understand that the author got tired of the series and wanted to end it quickly, but it's still a lovely series regardless and I tend to revisit it from time to time.
3rd main blorbo: Sion Astal from Denyuuden Sion is a young puppet king with a split personality and shares his present body with a demon. The light novel is written by the same creator as Owari no Seraph, but the anime covers very little of the main storyline. The interesting parts are locked behind the light novel, but Sion is probably one of the more complex muses I've written. If the main trio were to be compared with Castlevania, Sion would be the Alucard among the group. The fandom had a total of 3 rpers including me, it was funny how dead it was. I left it when the other two rpers stopped being active, but I still enjoy the fandom regardless.
4th main blorbo: Diluc Ragnvindr from Gen//shin Impact I don't remember why I love Diluc but it started on discord when a friend (Cass) dragged me into Gen//shin and loved the grape man. I got very invested in his lore in Gen///pact to the point that I would read both the CN and EN versions, have a folder for all its screenshots since we can't replay events, and even dug out possibilities of the Ragnvindr Family Tree members all the way to the first Ragnvindr Knight. I stopped writing him due to how unbearable the fandom became once people started joining and it became big. I will refrain from going into detail about this though! But Gen//pact is still a great franchise. As someone who knows quite a bit about Middle-Eastern and East-Asian mythology, Gen//pact really portrayed some aspects of the old myths that I've never seen show up in any type of media before, which is really refreshing and honestly eye-opening.
10. what genre do you most enjoy, whether in roleplay, or fiction as a whole? (fantasy, period, superhero, etc.)
I like mysteries and crimes, horror, cosmological science, fringe science, high fantasy, medieval fantasy, anything historical, supernatural, steampunk, and cyberpunk as a set up for my threads. As for themes, I'm mostly an angst and romance writer. I'm a bit picky with romance though, because I do enjoy romance as a subgenre in my fiction/rp, but never a main theme. In the sense that they start off normally and eventually develop a romantic interest in the other. If romance is the only thing my muse has in common with the other muse, I wouldn't find it as enjoyable, and eventually get bored of it.

3/6/24 Mob Psycho 100
I'm always thankful for class choice week cause it allows me to either visit someone's favorite work, or in this case allow me to rewatch a series that had a profound impact on me over the course of its run. Mob Psycho 100 is an outwardly simplistic, goofy-looking show that happens to involves great action and a power system as commonly seen with any popular Shonen series. However, where Mob differs in how it handles its characters, with there not being a long intensive plot like Attack on Titan, but instead a focus on the character development of our main cast for an effective coming-of-age story for all that are present. Through these episodes we are introduced to the main dynamic of the show, Shigeo Kageyama or "Mob" works for the psychic fraud Reigen Arataka who eventually become accompanied by the spirit Dimple, where shenanigans ensue each episode as the trio deals with either spirits, other psychics, and eventually entire organizations, however these plotlines are not what the show mostly focuses on. This anime focuses on growth and personal development, with Mob being blessed with godlike psychic powers but outwardly rejecting to use them as a crutch and instead working towards bettering himself the normal way, this puts him at odds with the psychics and spirits he often encounters that possess a sense of superiority due to their powers. This serves as another narrative crux on the responsibility that comes with such powers and influence like with Mob, where he is seen as the most powerful but a mystery to many of the other characters as to how he chooses to use them. This sense of responsibility grants Mob a sense of emotional intelligence and empathetic ability that allows him to resolve many of the conflicts of his show, aside from Mob's own intrinsic battle for identity and self acceptance as he progresses through the many challenges of his adolescence. Mob Psycho 100 effectively serves as commentary for Shonen as a whole with how unorthodox the main cast is, Reigen being seen as a scrupulous conman who pawns off his "psychic services" when in reality he possesses none of these abilities, an outwardly negative look at his character. However, this conman is a fantastic role model for a figure like Mob who stresses the responsibility of his powers and serves as a mentor and friend during his tumultuous times in middle school and his battles with psychics, twisting an outwardly negative character to an endearing mentor that serves as the soul of the show. Speaking of soul, Dimple serves as a foil character to Mob for a majority of the show with him constantly desiring power and fame for his strength, when in reality Mob treats him like a friend and doesn't particularly note his superiority and plans of domination as he's stronger than him. This dynamic all comes to a head in Ep. 30, where Mob confronts Dimple who has essentially become a deity-like figure of psychic power and refuses to fight him because he sees Dimple's desire for fame and adoration for what it really is, a desire for friendship that Mob was more than willing to engage with. This culminates in Dimple's sacrifice for Mob allowing him to escape the battlefield of the giant Broccoli tree, an action done out of the love for his friend. This idea of surface level silliness sheltering nuanced character writing is best emphasized with the art style and color choices that the anime chooses. Everyone is simplistic looking and almost can be seen as a caricature of people and an exaggeration of spirits, but this outward appearance serves as a foundation for the gorgeous animation to work off of due to the natural simplicity of the character designs. Alongside this, we have the choice of colors, where I think this anime's usage of color is top notch, with it having a base palette that is only expanded to showcase the psychic abilities or whenever Mob reaches "???%" to characterize the sheer awesome nature of his abilities, and only further signifying the uniqueness of these abilities. In short, I feel that this work is a wonderful coming-of-age story!

Tumblr media
The depiction of 100% courage is that of a change in art style, overall tone, and an almost magical-girl like sentiment that oozes throughout the sequence. This clear transition signifies the influx of emotional control mob possesses over abilities, further showcasing his growth in not just his character but in his abilities facing the new esper threat in Mogami.

What are your tips for new fanfic writers?
Oh, jeeze... 🤔
Keep in mind that I haven't completed an actual story since, I think, high- No, middle school.
But, if I had to say anything, nail down the major plot points?
Also, be careful about info dumping. That's a problem that I tend to have personally.
Also, try to put yourself into the characters' shoes & think about how you'd react in their situation. While you might not actually want them to react that way in the story, it could give valuable insight that could lead you to how you actually want them to react.
And keep in mind their motivations & goals. Think about the position that they're coming from & why they're doing the things that they do.
It also helps to build them a backstory in order to build their thought processes off of. Even if that backstory ends up being mostly subtext for just your use with only little tidbits sprinkled throughout the story itself.
Like, in the Super Mario Movie, at the end of the movie, Bowser said something along the lines of "I was finally going to be happy" & "I'm gonna make you miserable just like me." This implies that maybe Bowser hasn't had a very good life. Possibly even that he grew up in an abusive or neglectful household.
If true, then it could also explain why Bowser is often portrayed as being a very present & caring father to Bowser Jr. in the games as victims of child abuse either end up perpetuating the cycle of pain or, in this case, breaking it entirely.
Of course, even if this is true, that doesn't excuse any of the things he's done or tried to do.
Which is another thing to keep in mind. For a dynamic story, everything has consequences, whether positive or negative. And just because the character is your blorbo, that doesn't make them exempt from cause & effect. A good author keeps these things in mind.
Something else is the societal pressures & expectations that would be placed upon your characters based on the situation of the society around them.
For instance, the Gerudo from Legend of Zelda. They are an all-woman (for the most part) society that only gets 1 male ever 100 years. They also reproduce in the same way that humans do. As such, this forces them to create a culture run entirely by women, which in & of itself is an interesting concept to explore much like with the Greek Amazons. However, a consequence of this is that each & every Gerudo woman would realistically have a LOT of pressure put on them from a very young age to leave home, find a man, & have as many daughters as possible. Why? Because if they don't then their entire culture will die.
Something else to consider is that 3 of these 100 year men have turned into evil, power-hungry warlords hellbent on conquering their much larger, much more populated neighbor who also happens to have more land & resources on hand. So, every time these warlords have been dealt with, it logically would inevitably result in renewed prejudices towards the Gerudo, which the women have to deal with the consequences of because it wasn't just these 3 men who were responsible. A lot of the Gerudo women supported their campaigns to go to war too.
This, most likely, is part of the reason why the Gerudo in recent games have put a ban on men entering their capital settlement. As due to these compiled traumatic experiences, their society has most likely developed misandry towards the males of their own culture.
Another good thing is ✨️worldbuilding✨️ which circles right back around to my last point! In case you haven't noticed, I L♡VE worldbuilding!!
Figuring out how the world around your characters works can give you insight as to how those characters have adapted to react to things.
Things like culture, which is influenced by language, customs, sayings, beliefs, foods, clothing styles, who they're allied to, & the local environment. The environment including the climate, weather, season, & local topography as well as available plants & animals which, in & of itself, influences what materials are available & thus affects things like the food they eat & the clothes they wear. Things like that.
All these things can contribute to how someone acts in subtle or obvious ways. For instance, did you know that it would be considered a social faux pas to stick your chopsticks upright into a bowl of rice at a Chinese establishment or residence because it resembles the incense that is commonly burned at graves?
At least, that's what I've heard. I could've been misinformed.
Another important thing to consider is if a situation makes logical sense. If it doesn't, but is somehow integral to your story, then explain why it's important or how it's possible.
I just recently read a story where... You know what? I'll put in a link to a post I made concerning it below.
Now, I will warn you that the post is a rant/vent, so don't be surprised at the pointedness of it. Even so, I think that I made some good points.
Here: Establishing the Rules of Your Fanfic
Also, don't be afraid to just throw things at the wall to see what sticks or even let your environment influence you. Sometimes things will just jump out at you from doing your daily hullabaloo.
Oh yeah! And OneLook! OneLook is a Godsend when you're looking for a word, can't remember, but know the meaning.
Following that, be careful about repeating the same words & phrases in close proximity to each other.
Of course, you don't have to do all this. It's just what I, personally, do.
Either way, that's about all I have. I hope it helps! :D

~Writerly Thumbprint Challenge~
Rules: look back on your work, both past and present, finished and unfinished. what are five (or more!) narrative elements, themes, topics or tropes that continuously pop up in your work?
Thanks to @dirty-bosmer for tagging in this cool challenge, I'm still quite new to writing so I tried to look at it through the lens of my stories and the characters I write about.
I'm tagging @sheirukitriesfandom and @akaviri-dovah :) No pressure but if you do put something out I look forward to reading it :)
1. Opposition - I like to write about character relationships where the characters are very much in opposition to each other, such as different species, different sides of a conflict, etc. These relationships are often romantic but they don't have to be, and in my own original work I'm exploring this dynamic through the lens of friends and enemies. I like to write about these types of characters because I find it a great way to develop a character's values and identity when you juxtapose them with their opposite.
2. Belief in a Higher Power - Most characters I write about, and most certainly my original characters, are religious. They often have a deep sense of faith that guides them and many of them had a previous faith and end up in a different one (or following a different deity) as they grow up. Religion (especially in TES) is something I really gravitate towards and find it to be a great piece of world building. This may or may not be surprising but I was not raised religious, nor was my parent! Both of us were raised pretty agnostic and I in particular was encouraged to find my own beliefs. IRL I'm interested in Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy and how they were influenced by European "pagan" beliefs (Gallo-Roman Paganism represent!).
3. Abandoning the Familiar - I like to write stories about people who have left home, normally at a young age or due to unsafe circumstances. I place my characters in situations that are very different from how they were raised and flesh out their personality based on how I think they would react to entering a different environment, far from home. I also left home at a relatively young age to make my way in the world and have rarely gone back so this is mostly me, writing what I know. Though in my original work, I'm trying to challenge this and have one of the main characters live in the she was raised in.

While going through AU information since I slept here's questions while I read. Got any visual descriptions of the characters that one could work off of? When Eclipse released the 3 from stais how did things go? Was Sun and Moon immediately on defense and thought Eclipse was going to kill them or was they willing to give the lord a chance? Is Lunar still wary of Eclipse? Has Atlas ever met Eclipse? What's Glitter's original AU like? And how would they react to Lord Saturn? I think that'd be a interesting meeting For the TFs in "Rehab" has there been any progress? Are they still stuck in their old ways? (I'm sorry I am a curious boi. Bonus questions such as: Has the deadly sin family tried to kidnap Lord Saturn to be apart of the family? How would Gluttony react to North, Catch, and Release?)
I am delighted to talk about my aus. People showing interest makes me very happy. Plus it helps me expand the universe.
This got a bit long
Currently visual descriptions are pretty vague. I will have to get back to you on that. I got another ask about that in particular so I'll tag you there. Onto the questions I can probably answer!
-
Gluttony (lunar) was released first and met with apologies and 'bribes' (toys, food, games, etc to make him happier). Gluttony and Envy (eclipse) had a serious heart to heart where Envy explained himself, past and present feelings. He promised to be better. Things between them were stilted for a while, but they grew comfortable with each other after a while.
Envy released the others due to Gluttony's insistence. Envy explained himself to them as well. Lust was a bit more sympathetic than Pride. Considering the power dynamic, there wasn't a lot that could be done from Pride, Lust, and Greed's side.
Things were pretty awkward between everyone and Envy for a while, but with time and borrowed therapists, things smoothed out. (there is a under developed au where Pride kills Envy and Gluttony runs off with the star). It's been a long while now so the family is mostly content in the new world.
-
Envy doesn't leave their dimension often except for Lord Meetings and occasionally visiting friends like Night. So no, he hasn't met Atlas. He knows of Atlas, but the two haven't crossed paths.
-
In Glitter's original dimension, his Moon was decommissioned for multiple child murders. Even with 'the problem' gone, the daycare's numbers didn't improve; so Glitter was going to be decommissioned as well. When Chaos showed up, the staff cut their losses and let him take Glitter.
Glitter didn't have a Eclipse in his world but he would be a bit nervous at first about Saturn. Especially early on before he learns to roll with it. Chaos is protective enough that Glitter won't be scared of Saturn and Beam, just wary. Okay probably a little scared of Beam, but again Chaos will protect him so he knows he is likely safe.
-
tf Sun probably has had the most progress. Lust, also being a sun can more easily understand how his mind works and how to correct things. Plus tf Sun is the most open to change without tf Moon and tf Monty's opinions guiding his own. Besides traveler is way less scary than Gluttony.
tf Moon is a stubborn bastard and regularly gets the spray bottle.
tf Monty isn't in rehab, he's in prison.
-
If Saturn wants to be a part of the family, he is very much welcome. The only people kidnapped into the family are those who have been abused, neglected, in danger, etc. And even then, if the kidnapped wants to leave, they can.
Though as a Eclipse, Saturn counts as a 'cousin' regardless.
-
Gluttony would definitely offer to adopt North, or let him stay with the sins family if he wants a vacation from Golden. Also another magically inclined lunar friend!
Gluttony would be interested in getting to know Catch & Release since their dimension is way different than most he knows about, plus it seems cool. Maybe not a field trip dimension, but one he would like to explore

#SOVRGN. You can call me Whisper or Kai. I’m 31 yrs old based in CST time zone. This is a fandom unaffiliated NEUVILLETTE side-blog for Mihoyo's Genshin Impact. Mostly canon compliant with possible canon divergences sprinkled in. Can be heavily inspired by my own ideas & added headcanons as well. *FOLLOWS BACK FROM @aetrnalis*
Please read my rules & headcanons that are linked in about pages as those are usually important to my portrayals / changed things. * USES BETA EDITOR
This blog is not spoiler free OR leak free. Added on to that, due to the nature of some of my characters here mature themes will most likely be present. Look / follow at your own risk due to either of these things. Leaks will be tagged as such: genshin leaks / genshin spoilers.
RULES UNDER THE CUT**
1. I am MUTUALS ONLY. I will only write, interact & talk to those that follow me who I follow back. I will NOT write with those under the age of 21. I do not feel comfortable talking to those I don’t follow just due to the fact some people use that as a means to pressure into following.
2. No godmodding, don’t control my muse in your replies & please please communicate with me. While I am fine with naturally emerging plot developments, I do require big events (character death, breakups, pregnancies, etc) to have been discussed previously. I would also like to be kept in the loop when it comes to any character choices that will, if we have an ongoing dynamic, affect our interactions.
3. If you don’t feel a thread, a starter I wrote or something we are developing, please just tell me. We can restart something new or work things out some other way.
4. I’ll try to answer most IC asks I get but if I can’t come up with a reply I tend to delete them instead of forcing it. I promise I am never ignoring you. I just won’t force my writing & give you something with poor quality.
5. When it comes to reblogging memes. I personally don't care if you reblog them from me or the source. the source isn't always available or is a pain to get to. long as my notifications aren't clogged up.
6. I don't practice mains / exclusives here. My main rule about this is that I will only romantic ship with one muse of a certain character ( aka ship exclusive ). Each ship will be in it's own verse.
7. If you ever are interested in exploring any sort of dynamic, feel free to hit me up in dms. i promise i don't bite & i love being able to build things with other people. more often than not i'll say yes but it will depend as well due to my muses personalities / backgrounds, they are not likely to engage into romantic relationships on a whim. any ship would need to be developed and plotted.
Your muse is welcome to have a crush on any of my muses, but those feelings may end up being unrequited. please do not guilt trip me about this.
8. NSFW will occur here most likely whether it’s in term of mature content or sexual nature. It’ll usually occur under a read more if so ( sexual things of the nature ) or tagged with the appropriate trigger warning. I usually will tag it as: **/ nsfw**
9. My discord is available for those who want it but I also will act liberally on that.

So I wrote a short review of this book on goodreads... like forever ago, but I’m still thinking about it, and I wanted to write some more words about because I think it’s interesting, and also a potentially interesting case of an author feeling ‘stuck’ to a style? To be clear I pretty much don’t know anything about her except that I read this book and a few other reviews of it, but those other reviews made me a bit interested in why this book is structured in the way that it is. Full, longer review will be below the cut!
See, this book has three (really four, but maybe more like 3.5? I’ll get to it) sections. We begin with Rob, Now about a woman is a truly terrible marriage trying to manage her two daughters, the seemingly troublemaker-type Callie, who often bullies her younger, seemingly angelic, sister Annie. When Callie nearly chokes Annie, Rob decides she needs to go back to the place where she grew up, a sort of hippie compound called Sundial, and bring Callie with her to try and help her. As they embark on this road trip, we get the second perspective in the novel: Callie. Callie it seems can see ghosts, figments of dead animals, when she preserves and puts together their skeletons, as well as ‘Pale Callie’ who seems to be an alternate version of herself. As mother and daughter try to reconcile, they are inter-cut with what I think is the best, most compelling section: Rob, Then wherein Rob’s childhood is related to us through a series of extended flashbacks.
I rated this book 3 stars mostly for that third section. The relationship between Rob, her sister Jack, and their father and stepmother is an interesting and increasingly convoluted dynamic, and the tension between their genuine care for this compound that is all they’ve ever known, vs their desire to explore the world they’ve glimpsed in haphazard media left behind by the college students who come to visit Sundial and study the dogs raised there are genuinely interesting and affecting story beats, especially when Jack and Rob are written so sympathetically. I enjoyed the Callie sections as well, she’s an interesting character, and although young, also clearly has a compelling conflict, and the mystery of her pale friends is genuinely intriguing. She’s written well, and she feels young, but not too annoying. Still though, I wish that section wasn’t there simply due to the amount of distaste I have for the Rob, Now sections. I found Rob, Now exhausting, and it sort of felt like it only existed to foreshadow and hint at the far superior Rob, Then sections, which reveal certain mysteries as the book goes on. Thematically, the whole thing ties together, I just wish it had gone in a different direction both story-wise and theme-wise in general.
Present-day Rob feels almost nothing like her past self, which on the one hand can be explained away by many years, two children, and a terrible marriage, but to me it seemed more like a cheap way to bolster the ambiguity between Rob and Jack. At the end of the novel certain events take place that imply that the character we know as ‘Rob’ may actually have been the Jack of the flashbacks, something that ultimately didn’t seem to mean anything. Maybe that she is more dangerous than she seems (Jack apparently has some inherent aggression genes that were successfully suppressed in Rob). But since they attempted to suppress Rob’s in the same way, I’m just not sure if there’s a meaningful difference between ‘It was Jack the whole time and she’s dangerous!’ and ‘Rob’s special serum is actually wearing off and she’s dangerous!’
And then there’s the 0.5 section. Rob, in order to cope with her shit marriage writes some extremely dark fiction about children at a boarding school. I do not know why it was included in the final book, the sections are well-written, but they have absolutely no affect on the story, and don’t really tell us anything about Rob that we don’t either already know from the beginning (for instance, her animosity towards Callie) or find out about her by the end (mommy issues). I just think the story would be neater without it, and as much as on their own I enjoyed the segments, I felt like they didn’t add anything to a story I felt had too many different parts in regards to the content already.
It makes me a bit sad because I think I would really have loved the book it was only the Rob, Then sections (and if the ending of that particular section was slightly different). But, ultimately that’s a matter of personal taste, and as I mentioned in my other, shorter review, at this in my life I can relate a lot more to a young woman trying to figure out her place in the world than I can a grown woman dealing with a bad marriage and a rebellious child, so that may have coloured my thoughts. See, thematically, the book seems to largely be about recursion, and here’s where I’ll put in all the big plot twist spoilers, and talk about why I think marketing potentially had something to do with the reasons this book turned out the way it is, so be warned, there are actual (good) twists in this book, and they will be spoiled.
So essentially the woman that Rob thinks is her stepmother, and the man she thinks is her biological father are both her and Jack’s adoptive parents. Their real parents were horrifically abusive, and Rob killed them so that she and Jack could escape, but they lived out in the desert middle of nowhere (apparently because they sold drugs) and so when Rob and Jack got out the first place they found was Sundial. The two owners took the girls and apparently let them name themselves (and they gave themselves the names of their abusive parents-Robert and Jacqueline). However, as they put it in the book, the two girls were still in ‘survival mode’ and were basically feral. Especially Rob, who apparently tried to kill both her adoptive parents, and Jack at different intervals. In order to calm down both the girls they basically started experimenting on them, and they are actually testing dogs at the facility with the same serum they used on Rob and Jack to try to mitigate any side-effects they might have.
This makes Rob lose her memory of what happened before, so her sister creates a sort of fantasy for her where their adoptive father had a wife who died, who was their mother, and their current adoptive mother is their stepmother. This is all revealed non-linearly, as the actual story of these two girls basically deciding whether or not to leave Sundial takes place. Jack has started to have visions (that seem really similar to Callie’s current visions of dead creatures), and has been acting weird and distant from Rob. She eventually tries to run off with one of the college students studying there, but Mia (the adoptive mother) catches them and brings her back. Jack says, basically, that she wanted to escape. This also gets the guy she tries to run off with kicked out of his fancy school because she’s underage at the time.
Eventually Rob decides to go to college, but Jack says she can’t come since her violent tendencies have come back too strongly for her to live a normal life. At college Rob meets the same guy Jack tried to run off with, and they date for a while, then break up because she’s not trad enough for him, but the break up is sort of the catalyst for Rob making friends with her previously distant roommates, and college life starts to look up for her (plus that guy sucks anyway, so really everything is going great). Then Jack shows up and gets Rob to come back to Sundial with her. They find out they’re pregnant by the same guy, and during a fight between them, Rob loses her baby. She really wanted to keep it, but everyone resolves to basically stay at Sundial and raise the remaining baby together. After she’s born, though, Jack hurts one of the more dangerous dogs and lets it in the house because she doesn’t believe she can continue to be good, or be a good mother. Basically she wants to ‘test’ the serum by putting one of the dogs in distress, because she thinks she’ll act the same way if she becomes distressed.
Everyone dies except for Rob (or maybe Jack, this is the point where present day Rob, who is telling this part to Callie, may be lying) and the baby, who Rob resolves to raise. However, the shitty guy that dated both of them shows up at this point (Rob’s roommate/friend called him because she was worried about her) and basically says they can pretend they just showed up and found everyone dead from the dogs, and she should marry him so they can raise the baby, and so that he can have the ‘traditional’ life he’s always wanted.
When present-day Rob finishes the story her husband shows up, wanting to kill her and take Callie (who is his favourite) back. Instead Callie and Rob kill him, and bury him in the desert, then head home. On the drive back Callie reveals that she hasn’t been the one killing animals and making them her pale friends, Anna has been killing them the whole time, and Callie, out of compassion, collected their bones so that they could have a new new afterlife with her (and Pale Callie is of course implied to be Rob’s biological fetus that was miscarried). She also reveals that Anna loves her mother so much she has plan to kill the neighbour because the husband was having an affair with her. They race home hoping to catch Anna before she does anything, but also resolving to help her cover it up if they arrive and the neighbour is already dead.
And I get the themes here, the recursion in Callie and Jack, the sins of the parents passed down to their children (from the original Robert and Jaquelin, to the main sisters Rob and Jack, and then down to Callie and Anna), but I just think an ending with Rob, alone with her niece, unsure of what to do next, would be a much more effective ambiguous ending. Then we don’t know if the sins of the mother are passed down, there is hope there, and despair, and potential for Callie and Rob. But perhaps I’m just too invested in a somewhat happy ending.
However, I don’t think this is a terrible book, and my summary is truncated so if you read this and it sounds interesting I wouldn’t ward you away from it. That said, after I read this book, I learned a little about the author’s previous novel, The Last House on Needless Street that was apparently a huge success, and it made me wonder...
Now this is all complete speculation, created whole-cloth from observing media trends, and reading the reviews of Sundial that compared it to the author’s previous book, The Last House on Needless Street, and I think some of the nature of this book, in particular the Rob, Now sections may have been to appease a publisher that wanted something similar to her previous novel. See, that book is about a man who was suspected of the murder of a child many years ago, but no one could ever prove it. And to me, the sort of blurring of morality, and the uncertainty of which characters are good or bad, seems very in line with what happens in Sundial, in particular the obscurity and twists around Rob and Jack’s life. And a part of me wonders if the book was supposed to be at one point just the ‘then’ sections, and the ‘now’ sections were added later because they fit in with the previous book more. And, on top of that, the twists and turns that certain reviews implied were evocative of Needless Street as well.
Again, I have no proof, it was just a thought that crossed my mind. Anyway, I have written a lot of words on what I still think is a three-star book, fun read but not life changing, so I’ll end things here. If you are a fan of psychological horror, I think you’d really enjoy this one.
