Christmas Traditions | 141 x Reader
Idc if it's not December yet, it's Christmas time. Might do a part two with Alejandro, Rudy, Konig, and others (need to do research on non-UK Christmas traditions)
John Price
Christmas is the only time of the year he can truly get away from work and he makes sure to get as far away as possible. He's rented a little cottage as north in Scotland as he can get.
You drive a car full of stuff up on the 20th, he allows 10 minutes of Christmas music per hour on the road.
He cuts down a tree for you, even if it's not totally legal to do so.
Most of the ornaments are yours, he never decorated before meeting you. He likes watching you stretch to reach the higher branches and will pick you up by the waist if need be. He likes putting the star on top.
You mostly spend your time together in bed or by the fire.
He's a splurge when it comes to gift-giving, a couple small gifts and then something big like a kitchen-aid mixer or something else expensive you've been wanting.
Spends Christmas night dancing with you even if he has two left feet.
Wishes he didn't have to leave on the 27th
Kyle 'Gaz' Garrick
He likes going out of the country for Christmas. Doesn't want to be in London, especially after Picadilly.
You almost miss your flight, running through the airport.
The location is always a surprise.
This year it's Gibraltar.
You have a nice hotel overlooking the ocean
Spend time at the beach and Christmas market.
The two of you spend Christmas eve watching old movies and drinking wine.
You love the trips but hope next year he'll bring you to meet the family. Maybe give you a ring too.
Matching Pjs, tea and biscuits is how you spend Christmas morning
John 'Soap' MacTavish
He's the one that buys the matching pjs.
Loves Christmas more than anyone else in the group
Takes you up to Scotland to meet the family even if you've only been dating for a couple months. His mom refuses to let him miss it.
Sings songs the whole drive up
Apologizes profusely for having to leave for midnight mass with his mom, and will hold your hand the entire time if you choose to go.
His mom barely leaves the two of you alone so any 'alone time' is in the car.
Not the best at gift giving, he watches you and his mom walk around the market and buys whatever you pick up. You have a lot of funny phrase mugs now.
Teaches you the proper way to pronounce "Nollaig Chridheil" (Merry Christmas in Scots)
Drags you outside when it snows to either build a snowman or pelt you with snowballs
Simon 'Ghost' Riley
Wouldn't even realize it was Christmas if it wasn't for you
He kind of panics because he didn't plan anything or get you any gifts
Lots of last-minute shopping.
Gets a little charlie brown type tree. You're both taller than it but make orange slice ornaments and a popcorn garland. It makes the flat smell incredible if a little buttery.
He can put up with one movie so pick carefully. He might fall asleep but he's still wrapped around you.
You fall asleep on the couch as the little spoon and wake up the next morning with a stack of presents by your little tree. He's somehow still behind you.
Traditional English breakfast and tea Christmas morning
You got him a bracelet with your name and the date you met stamped on it, even if he can't wear it in the field it's always in a pocket.
You can convince him to go with matching socks but nothing more
He's just glad the two of you are together and will try to do whatever tradition you want if it makes you happy.

i'm sure you've talked about this kinda thing before but what do you think about people saying, like, "stampede wolfwood characterization is bad and doesn't even feel like wolfwood"?
this feels like bait to get me to say something inflammatory, because my opinion on people dismissing stampede wolfwood out of hand is definitely something i've posted before, but i fucking love to talk about my opinions, so. [cracks knuckles]
basically. 1. he's a different version of the character in a different set of circumstances, of course he's going to be different. and 2. the thing most people imagine in their heads as wolfwood... is not the wolfwood that appears in any canon, lol.
i don't think that's even a notable observation. a lot of the trigun fandom is the "the vash and wolfwood collectively hallucinated out of a blend of all three canons, It's Free Real Estate" fandom now. it's a tale as old as time. fandom as we currently know it was built on slash and cherrypicking from canon.
i'm not going to be the fun police about it, or act like my way of engaging with trigun (keeping the individual canons separate and distinct in my head, analyzing small details, thinking really hard about the characters and the circumstances of creation) is the 'correct' or the only way to have fun in a fandom. like, i think i am engaging more with the canon, but some people just aren't interested in the actual specific details of canon as more than a jumping off point, and while i don't get it, i support making your own fun. go wild.
but, man, there sure is something. interesting. about how the platonic ideal of wolfwood that's been developed by the Vashwood Fandom completely diverges from wolfwood's actual personality in canon (it's happened to vash too, but that's an entirely different can of worms) and then people get irritated at the actual canons for wolfwood not being the guy in their head. stampede especially, because stampede wolfwood is a traumatized disaster, and that doesn't really work for the most common flavor of vashwood, where vash is the one who needs reassurance and comfort.
i just.... yall, wolfwood is so fucking awkward. he's always been awkward and messy and unsure of himself outside of the two specific situations he can manage (combat and dealing with children). stampede didn't invent the fact that he has no idea what he's doing and doesn't really know how to act around other adults because he's spent most of his life a deeply repressed assassin. i really have no idea where the idea of him as suave and romantic and self-assured came from...
anyway. i'm not going to tell anyone they shouldn't have the fun they're having. it's fandom. god knows there are more important things to worry about. but i have been noticing some patterns, is all.
tl;dr: anyone is welcome to dislike stampede wolfwood if they want, but wolfwood has always been most of the things i see people criticize about stampede wolfwood's characterization. stampede wolfwood is just harder to fit into the box fandom built for him.

LOL my trans son and I were talking to my mami on the phone just now about him going over there this weekend, and he just found out one of his cousins changed his name and is now gender-fluid.  My kiddo was like, “I’m sorry, Grandma, I infected him!”
And Mami, in a straight and serious tone said, “Oh don’t worry honey, I think it was the DnD.”
We about died laughing.

I think tackling Eddie’s Catholicism would be a great opportunity to show the difference between being an American Catholic and being the kind of Cultural Catholic community that historically immigrant groups fall into - being a Latino, Irish or Italian Catholic is different. The guilt and shame isn’t from a big conscious fear of fire and brimstone or the wrath of god. It’s why Catholic’s who consider themselves atheist are still Catholic if they’re Irish, Italian or Latino. It’s such a complicated thing to unpack. You can’t just go to yourself ‘well god made me and loves everyone so I should accept myself too!’ and the problem is solved.
I found it interesting that the show made religion a big plot, especially in Bobby's storyline. Normally I'm not really comfortable with religion playing a huge role in the stories I consume, but I DO like it when it's used to deconstruct a person's (potentially negative) relationship with religion, and how it's affected their life.
It would be interesting for sure to see how catholicism affected Bobby, a white American from the Midwest vs. how it affected Eddie, a Latino American from Texas. They could do some really interesting juxtaposing here if they wanted to. Especially in that Bobby finds comfort in religion, whereas Eddie finds resentment and pressure.
I really do hope the show goes into it a bit more too. Even if they don't fully deconstruct the Catholic guilt thing in a big huge arc, I think it could be interesting to have it pop up in little ways again and again. Then Eddie has to really look at it and himself and wonder how deeply entrenched the thoughts instilled in him by the church and by the patriarchy (that absolutely 1000% affects both religion and Latino culture) have affected his life and how he views himself and the life he feels he can/cannot live.

Blessed Miguel Agustin Pro1 891 - 1927 Feast Day: November 23
José Ramón Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez, also known as Blessed Miguel Pro was a Mexican Jesuit Catholic priest. Falsely accused in the bombing attempt on a former Mexican president, Miguel became a wanted man. Betrayed to the police, he was sentenced to death without the benefit of any legal process. On the day of his execution, Fr. Pro forgave his executioners, prayed, bravely refused the blindfold and died proclaiming, "Viva Cristo Rey", "Long live Christ the King!" Known for his religious piety and innocence, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II as a Catholic martyr on September 25, 1988.
