i’m sorry but even if your personal version of mormonism excludes all the “if you’re a good mormon your skin will turn white when you die, no matter your race” and “dark skin is a sign of the devil” bs, your religion is still racist.
the idea that israelites sailed across the atlantic ocean and formed a population in north america that could be attributed to native americans is racist.
the idea that jesus christ appeared to native americans and converted them to christianity pre-colonial times is racist.
the idea that the arrival of christianity to north america with european colonialism was a prophesied “reintroduction” of christianity is racist.
the foundations of your religion are racist.
the foundations of your religion are historical negationism.
the foundations of your religion justify american colonialism as the will of god.
try as hard as you want, it’s impossible to remove racism from mormonism. it’s racist by nature.

Catholicism is Creep
an anonymous contribution
Catholicism isn’t all purity. It’s creepy. A guy in a robe mysteriously chants in whispers and gives us flesh to eat. We proceed in this ritual by drinking blood. Transfixed by the gory image of a young man covered in blood hanging by nails on a tree, we whisper in centuries-old chants, reflecting on our impending death. On display in many of these hallowed halls of ritualistic worship are bodies, extremities, relics of dead people from centuries past. It’s no wonder many Catholics find themselves haunted.

Another fine case of “practice what you preach.” It’s not the woman’s fault that you lack self control.

most of the time, im angry at my parents for raising me in such a toxic environment and using religion as a weapon to (emotionally, spiritually) beat me into submission. they made me absolutely terrified of not being good enough, of going to hell just because god wants me to. my dad told me that god probably sends christians to hell because theyre not perfect, and just for fun.
sometimes, though, i feel bad for them. my mother has no coping mechanisms other than saying "this is gods will. i cant do anything." when her mom, my grandmother, died, she just broke. the life in her eyes died, and she just hung onto this idea of "god will give me joy" even though she cried every single day after work.
my father is 57. he's still constantly afraid of going to hell. my mother has told him that he should just trust in christs sacrifice on the cross and that he should stop worrying, but he still worries that hes not good enough, and that he will go to hell because hes not perfect, because of the way god made him. the ghosts of his childhood still haunt him over half a century later. i have a feeling his dad was a little abusive in some way. the way he talks about him is just, i dont know, odd. he talks about how strict he was, how he would yell at him and his brother, and how they constantly got into arguments, but he never says the same about his mother. i also have a feeling that his fathers tactics worked, and he kind of crumbled under that pressure and became the person he is today.
and thats one of the many tragedies of religion. the two main paths are either conform and be this abusive but fearful human being, or leave and be ostracized from your community. and theres that dichotomy of anger and pity for that latter option. im so angry at fundamentalists, but i pity them because theyve chosen to crumble under the pressure of the abusive environment they were raised in. its a lot more complex when you look into it

Honestly I wish I had been able to stay ignorant and remain in the faith sometimes. Thinking about existence, purpose, where it all came from, and my lost loved ones would all be so much easier if I had just stayed quiet and shushed the skeptic in my head. But I know I would have never truly been happy like that. It's a strange feeling, missing ignorance.

There is no such thing as progressive Roman Catholicism.
I see people acting like you can be a Roman Catholic and, for example, a queer ally, but those things are in conflict with eachother. In the end, you have to choose what ethics do you follow.
Your spirituality is yours, but the Church is an organisation with its own ideology and practices. No matter if you agree, its official doctrine is bigoted in many ways. No matter how appalled you are, the covering up of pedophilia is systemic. By aligning yourself with the Roman Catholic Church you are supporting the organisation doing all of that and more, and it's no longer a matter of your personal religious life. For the priests' services you're trading the lives of your most vulnerable neighbours.
I know it can be extremely hard, even terrifying, to leave after being indoctrinated. But some things are beyond repair. You can practice some form of Christianity in ways that don't harm other people. If you are not a bigot, you are likely already a heretic anyway by the Vatican's standards.
Only when the Church will loose lay people's support it can lose its power to destroy lives.

CALLING ALL HEATHENS
I would really like to have a dialogue and maybe form a community with others who are recovering from negative christian church upbringings/experiences. I’m ex fundie, and was abused in the church, was “homeschooled” (not educated), and am far along in my recovery journey but still working.
Anyone, even if that doesn’t resemble your exact experience, ask me a question or share your story! Let’s start a dialogue. Anons are on if you need to stay stealth.

Realized this morning:
As a beautiful but unapologetically brilliant woman, the spot for me at Burning Man is, in every meaningful way, exactly the same as the spot for me in the Mormon Church
Signed, was a fixture in both, and left both for the same reasons

How Do You Do Fellow Heretics?
Hi, everyone! My name is Sue, I use she/they pronouns, I am bisexual and I am 20+ years old. As of the time of me making this blog, I have recently become an ex Pentecostal and have become agnostic after trying to hold on to my Christian faith. So it goes without saying that this blog focuses on deconstruction, religious trauma and overall ex religious stuff.
Though my blog will focus primarily on ex Christian stuff for obvious reasons, I will also be reblogging stuff from other ex religious people like ex Muslims and such since I think we should make this community more open so more people can be seen and heard.
I know the fact that I use pronouns and announced my sexuality should make it obvious but this a pro-LGBT blog so homophobia, transphobia and acephobia of any kind isn’t welcome here. I am also a feminist and a woman of color so I’m not having shit like misogyny or racism/colorism either.
I want my blog to be a safe place for people like me, especially ones in a position where they feel trapped in a religious society more than willing to throw you away for daring stray away from what they believe.
Don’t come trying to bring me back into Christianity. I’ve heard everything under the sun so it simply won’t work. Don’t waste your time trying and leave me be. I know how to use the block button and won’t waste my time with debates for the most part.
With all that being said, welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy what you see! And if you don’t, that’s your problem and not mine.

I am literally debating putting "dni Mormons" on my DNI list.
I already have that I don't accept interactions with racists, anti-semites, and people who are okay with adults being attracted to minors, but apparently people who are from the religion that was created by a random white American dude who tripped balls in the woods and then decided that all native American people were actually lost Jews (hmm, that's really anti-Semitic) who got dark skin whenever they started sinning (hmm, that's really racist) and that the way to solve it was to take over the Utah territory and fight the US government and slaughter a bunch of natives (wow, that's REALLY racist!) so that they could have their paradise of child marriage and forced polygamy (which still happens in different parts of their community, and is really fucking disgusting) in their magical underwear don't think that that applies to them!
It does. If you support a religion that is based on racism, anti-Semitism, and child marriage, I want nothing to fucking do with you.
And to any Mormons who might be reading this, please research what you are actually supporting and what your church actually has done and continues to do. Y'all were literally responsible for so many residential schools and you participated in tons of genocide against native people, and there has been so much child abuse and rape committed in the name of Joseph Smith. Why would you purposely choose to be part of a religion that is younger than germ theory and literally was created with the fucking blood of native people for the purpose of creepy old white dudes to be able to have multiple teenage wives?
Plus, I'm just anti conservative Christianity and anti-cult in general, so to anyone who might be part of a religious group that gets called those things (LDS, JW, Scientology, ect), please fuck off my page.
