Hmm, I think I created Opal about 15 years ago and the story she was in also concluded long ago, so she isn't really "alive" to me anymore, but let me see what I can remember.

4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?

She came from a world with two races where the one Opal belonged to was stubbornly pacifistic and tradition-bound even though the other was systematically driving them away from their homes and generally treating them terribly (you know, fantasy colonialism). Opal did not agree with her own people's ways and left them, resulting in her getting entirely excommunicated. Maybe because of her upbringing, she chose to deal with having to exist in between two people who wanted nothing to do with her by being open-minded and agreeable about the smaller things, which I think stayed with her all the way to the main story many years later.

She's insistent on being a neutral party even though she later joins the military and slays demons on a daily basis - something that in this universe is hardly neutral at all. She's contrarian and a little bit hypocritical I guess, which makes her blind to other people acting in similar ways with negative consequences.

9. Are they based off of you, in some way?

Well, I think all my characters have some element of me in them, but she's one of those where it's so vague I can't really say we have anything in common.

12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)? 

Drawing her faceeee - it's so round and flat and lacks geometric structure, it was an eternal struggle for me to position her facial features right no matter how many hundred times I drew her.
