After a failed attempt to take Limerick in October 1650, Ireton spent the winter preparing for a new offensive. Limerick…

temporary brief: exploring texture
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the same day I visited the castle, I also went to the outside of the site to study what the texture and look of the stones within the castles walls looked like as well
I took rubbings from one of the walls along the castle turrets (pic 1), a direction stone set on the side of the castle (pic 2), and then finally i took the last rubbing from the tall wooden gate door at the site of the castle, (pic 3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also took more close up photos of the walls stones, studying the moss and the type of fauna that was growing within the walls themselves ( pic 4,5,and 6)
I want to use this reference for future 3d or 2d work I might do on the castle

THE LION IN WINTER (1968) Grade: B
Such an interesting movie. Like a coming home for holidays movie but with a royal family. Had some funny light hearted moments and a crazy good cast. Great dialogue.

Invisible Authors
I wish I was as successful as Richard Castle. He has a fabulous NYC apartment, another home on the coast and he spends money without having to think about the cost or value.
There are a few authors whose books have made them rich (over $20m in 2018 alone), such as JK Rowling, Stephen King and John Grisham but, in reality, the top 10% of writers account for 70% of all income from books and less than 14% of authors can rely on writing as a sole source of their income.
A survey was carried out by the University of Glasgow of 50,000 authors' earnings this century. From an average author income of £18,013 in 2006, it fell by 52.65% to £10,497 in 2018. I began writing in 2019 - great timing, eh?
But I'm not doing this to make millions, although covering costs is good. When one plans retirement, they often take up painting or, in my case, writing. Any profit I receive from selling my books is carefully calculated each year (income declared, of course) and 50% of those profits are donated to a charity for the homeless.
If you are considering self-publishing, here is an article you might find interesting. I wish you the very best of luck with your writing and publishing.

a toh AU i’ve been thinking of for quite some time;
8 years ago, when King is still basically a newborn and luz is 6, she ends up in the demon realm, but somehow ends up on king’s island instead of the boiling isles (i have no idea how this would make sense but shh)
edalyn doesn’t find the island to take refuge in, and luz grows up with king and basically becomes feral until edalyn finds them when luz is like 12-14 and takes them home with her
i just. i just need feral luz ok.

temporary brief: primary research on site, king johns castle
for my project, I narrowed down my theme so that I focused on only one building/ site in limerick. the place I chose to focus on was kings' johns castle, a historical site near where I live, on the banks of the Shannon. the castle has been turned into a museum, with visitors being told about its beginnings, why it was created and the previous conflicts and sieges that had taken place here before. I collected some research while on my trip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
these photos were taken within the first part of the castle, here, it is told on how and why the castle was built, documenting which parts were built first, along with what the old medieval version of limerick looked like, depicted thru maps and old illustrations also shown are flags from kings and monarchs who were trying to settle in limerick at the time
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the next set of photos were taken underneath the castle, showing old ruins found buried beneath the castle itself. some structures found were an old house/ shed, along with siege tunnels used to sneak in supplies during times of conflict. I also have documented what the type of rocks and stone underneath the castle look like Aswell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
emerging from underneath the castle, you then enter the courtyard, where an opened "great hall" is located and can be climbed down into. I documented this area a lot due to how it fitted my intended theme, with signs of time-dereliction and some overgrown moss on the pieces of the ruins.
Tumblr media
I took other photos while inside as well, more so to do with other areas of my research, that I will be posting later. in all I did enjoy my trip to the castle itself and found really good inspiration on how to further my research and theme for my project going forward.
next, I want to see if I can find some more research on back when the castle was also once used as a housing block, with modern homes being built within the walls. this along with documenting the earlier days of the site, I intend to use to help explain my theme a bit more in the future

(via THE SHANNON RIVER AND KING JOHN'S CASTLE)
King John's Castle also known as Limerick Castle is a 13th-century castle located on King's Island in Limerick, Ireland, next to the River Shannon. Although the site dates back to 922 when the Vikings lived on the Island, the castle itself was built on the orders of King John of England in 1200.
