My partner: so I had a disappointing Dad Moment today
Me: Oh?
Partner: So I was downstairs blasting Meatloaf, right? Because the kids were both upstairs keeping themselves busy. And I've got Bat Out of Hell going and -
Me: Oh! You mean the band. I thought you were making a weird euphemism about masturbating and thought this was going to be a very different conversation.
Partner: What? No! But now I'm definitely going to call that Blasting Meatloaf from now on. Anyway. So I am listening to music by the band Meatloaf at very loud volumes, and [oldest child] texted me from across the house, saying "What are you listening to? It sounds like Hamilton For Dads"
Me: Holy shit, that's brutal.... Not wrong, though.
Partner: Just fucking flay me in the public square next time, it would be kinder.

100 Days of Writing: Day Sixty-Three
I decided to catch up on The 100 Days of Writing and then I... accidentally wrote a large number of words. In my defense, this is like 2 weeks’ worth of questions. Also I skipped the ones I didn’t have anything to say about so actually this could be worse.
(I’m not even kidding, this is really long. I talk about writing rituals, tools for plotting, my thoughts on opening with dialogue and why I don’t like it, my favorite topics, the weather, and what length of fic I like to write.)
I’m tagging, and apologizing to, @the-wip-project and fellow participants @she-who-the-river-could-not-hold, @thelittlefanpire, @hopskipaway, @easilydistractedbyfanfic, @dylanobrienisbatman, and @fontainebleau22.

Day 49: How do you get yourself in the mood to write? Do you have a ritual?
Every time I tell myself I’m going to get back into doing these questions, I see this one in my bookmarks and go nope! and turn around. It’s not a hard question; I’ve just been having trouble consistently getting into the mood to write, so I feel like any answer I try to give to it will be, in some sense, a lie. Like do I ever get “in the mood” to write? Really?? Also, I feel like I’m relying too much on ‘ritual,’ building up ‘the perfect writing situation’ in my head, which at the end of the day is less important than just saying ‘I’m going to do this now’ and then doing it.
I do have some things I always do when I sit down to a writing session. I write on my couch. Almost always (unless I’m on an event deadline where I just have to write in bits and pieces whenever possible), I write in sprints—I use write or die to keep me actually typing and not staring into space. I write in order, and I often write a whole scene at a time. So before I start I need to have at least a couple solid opening sentences in mind, plus some kind of idea about what happens/needs to happen in the scene. In order to get in the right headspace, I usually spend some time just thinking before I actually get to writing. I reread my outline or notes, and skim whatever I might have already written on the project. Sometimes I look at images that help me get in the right mood. Sometimes I just imagine or daydream for a bit. The difficulty, especially recently, is in making sure I do this just enough and not too much, because then I get too caught up in my head and I can no longer translate what I’m seeing into words.
In a broader sense, I also have a building up to writing ritual—again, I think this is part of my problem, that I don’t know how to balance this build up with actual writing. In the hours/days before writing something, I turn it over in my head a lot. I practice different versions of those critical opening sentences. I play it out like a fantasy just to see if there’s a possible flow, even if the final version is different. Basically, I try to turn it into something that just needs to be written, that just needs to get out. But again—this can lead to overthinking and frustration.
The best way I can describe writing for me is that, when it goes well, I find a rhythm, or enter into a zone, where I can describe the images in my head in a way that’s both accurate and pleasant to read. But entering that zone or finding that rhythm is like jumping into a game of jump rope. If you don’t do it right, you’re just going to trip over your feet and get tangled in the rope. But if you do it correctly, it’s fun and exhilarating and you can keep jumping for a long time. Sometimes it takes me some false starts to jump in. And recently I’ve been having days where I just can’t at all, where I tangle the rope up so much I can’t unknot it. Those are the days I just have the same sentences repeating over and over in my head, sounding wrong, and I can’t do anything about it. On the other hand, I write in much longer sprints than I did a couple years ago. I used to only write partial scenes, maybe a few hundred words. Now I can write whole scenes without stopping, and on a few occasions, I’ve written multiple scenes or even whole stories without stopping. So in other words, when it works,  it really works. But it doesn’t always, and there’s not a lot of in between.
*
Day 50 What fic/story made you?
Um… honestly I’ve been writing, in general and fic specifically, for such a long time that I didn’t have a ‘maybe I can do this’ moment. I mean one problem I’ve never had is thinking I can’t do this. I had positive reinforcement for my school and academic writing, and for a long time my fictional stories were just for me, and I knew what I liked. Even just thinking about my fic writing… I’ve been posting fic online since 2006, and I’ve been in multiple fandoms. I don’t really have much connection to a lot of those early stories anymore. They feel like they were written by someone else, a little. I’ve also moved on from most of the fandoms I wrote for in my early fic days so I don’t feel like I can really judge them anymore.
That said… there is kinda an obvious answer for my Star Trek fic lol. I also have favorite stories, and stories that stick out even years after I wrote them, in all (or at least most) of the fandoms I’ve been in. But I’m not sure if that’s the same.
Also, I had two teachers who were really encouraging of me and who I still think about often. One was my seventh grade English teacher, who had us do a lot of writing exercises of various types, both large and small, including keeping writing journals we wrote in every day at the start of class. He once told my mom that I wrote well, not for a seventh grader, but in general, and to be honest I still think of that with some regularity and take a lot of pride and comfort in it. The other was my creative writing professor in college. I don’t think I did my best work for that class, but she was very encouraging and seemed to like what I did. At the end of the semester, as I was preparing my portfolio, she told me that if I didn’t want to do much editing, I didn’t have to, because my unedited work would stand on its own. Again, especially considering all the problems that I saw with my writing for that class even then, I really took that comment to heart. When I’m feeling very self-critical, I remind myself that even my raw scribblings have, perhaps, something to them, and it helps ease the excessive and unwarranted pressure I put on myself. These aren’t really stories about specific writing pieces that ‘made’ me but I do think they speak to that ‘maybe I can do this’ feeling.
*
Day 51: Do you use tools for plotting and what are they?
So, generally, no. Sometimes I’ll look at various writing/plotting/organizational tools as a method of distraction, but my actual process is very simple. I use plain old notebooks and pens, and word documents on my computer, to plan all my fics, from the one-shots to the multi-chapters. I start by writing down general thoughts and brainstorming, then I build a scene list and/or outline, and then, if necessary, I separate the scenes lists into chapters. Sometimes I break down the scenes even more, if I have additional ideas I don’t wan to forget or if I know I need to hit certain points in a specific scene. The process varies a little bit from project to project, but that’s basically all I do.
I did use Evernote to plan the (still unwritten….) Ark AU. I don’t know if that was the best program choice or if something else exists that would have more precisely met my needs. But that’s what I used and that’s how it is. It’s a little annoying that every time I open it, it’s been updated, and the interface looks totally different and I have to relearn where everything is. But the tagging system has worked decently to allow me to see the big picture of this complex, multi-strand, multi-character, multi-ship disaster epic of a story. I struggled to plot it for a long time because I didn’t know how to balance all of the different parts. In Evernote, I made one ‘note’ for each character, and one for each scene (in addition to miscellaneous notes about sub plots, relationships, questions, etc.). Then I tagged each of them, including tagging the scenes by chapter. So now I can look at a list of all the characters, or all the scenes, or all of the scenes in chapter 8, or whatever, but I can also look at just one particular note at a time, and not be distracted by anything else. That said, I do also have one note that is just a total scene list for the whole fic, which is pretty reminiscent of my usual outlining process.
So… somehow this helped me plot (tentatively) the whole thing, but as I’ve written almost none of it—I finished outlining this in February 2020 so in my defense… I think you can see why it stalled—I’m not yet sure if it was a successful experiment in a ‘plotting tool.’
*
Day 60: How do you start your chapters? Do you start with dialogue? Why or why not?
While I am definitely against prescriptive “writing rues” generally, as my own personal rule, I try not to start with dialogue unless I have a very good reason.
To be quite honest, I think it’s lazy. I do think that dialogue openings can be used well, if the writer acknowledges that they are intensely stylistic and, from a reader’s perspective, quite difficult. Even within fanfiction, where a line of dialogue (especially if accompanied by a dialogue tag or swiftly followed by a reference to the speaker) gives a lot more information to the reader than in original fiction, opening with dialogue still shoves the reader directly into the deep end of the scene, with very little to orient her. WHERE is the speaker? WHO is being addressed in the dialogue? WHAT is the context of the conversation? Who ELSE might be present in the scene?
There are reasons you might want to throw the reader in the aforementioned deep-end. Maybe it’s an in media res situation and you want to emphasize the overwhelming nature of the action—starting a scene with “Get down!” for example. Or maybe the overall mood is one of disorientation or floating or uncertainty, and you want to create the same effect in the reader.
But I think if you’re starting a scene with dialogue because that’s the first thing that comes to mind for you—the person who conveniently already has the setting, character list, and even future plot already in mind—and it’s just simplest and easiest to start that way, you’re doing a disservice to the reader.
For example, I actually am planning to start the next chapter of the Sleeping Beauty AU with dialogue. My POV character is in a room with multiple other characters, and she’s examining something meaningful to her and not fully listening to the conversation around her. So I want the dialogue to float around in the background, to feel unmoored, and to stand in contrast to the very precise, detailed thoughts and memories that she’s experiencing, which are grounded in physical sensations like touch.
I haven’t quite gotten it to work yet, though, in part because opening with dialogue and doing it well is, in my opinion, quite hard. The difficulty lies in alleviating the challenges the reader is experiencing and making the text fluid and easy to picture. You need to get all of that scene-setting information—the who, what, when, where, and why—in very quickly, but without being jarring. In this scene in particular, I have multiple characters, all in a comparatively unusual location, and I need to establish where they are, who exactly is there, how they’ve come to meet my POV character (which happens ‘off screen’ between the end of Ch5 and the beginning of Ch6), all on top of the character’s thoughts and feelings.
I know all of this very well. To picture the scene in my own head takes only a moment. I just think about it and I see all seven of the characters, where they’re sitting, how they’re positioned, what their facial expressions are, and I also know roughly what each of them is thinking and feeling. To describe all of this in words would take several sentences. Do I put all those sentences on the front end? Do I weave them in among other description and dialogue? Is all of it even necessary—maybe we don’t need to know who’s sitting in what order on the couch, for example.
I’ve gone over a couple of different ways to do this in my head, and I’m sure it is possible, but I’m struggling to get it all down in a coherent way. (Admittedly, I’ve only made one solid attempt. As I was describing above, I’m probably going to jump in with several false starts, and then it will suddenly click.)
My initial attempt to set up the scene relied heavily on dialogue, but when I read it over, what sounded snappy and interesting in my head just fell completely flat—because it lacked context and thus, any meaning. I think the gulf between how dialogue openings feel to the writer and how they feel to the reader is large. To the writer, they feel easy and natural. To the reader, they can feel forced and, contrary to the writer’s intention, serve as an additional reminder that this is a constructed narrative rather than an immersive experience—the opposite of natural. In other words, as I said, they’re a highly stylized form of writing.
To illustrate, this was my first try at the Chapter 6 intro:
"I still can't believe it," a lightly awed voice says from somewhere behind Clarke. "The Princess of Alpha Station really used to live in our quarters.”
She pictures Miller, sunk into the couch cushions, slowly shaking his head, the expression on his face equal parts satisfied and amused.
"Really? That's what you think is the oddest part of all this?"
"Yeah, Bry, I do. Would you prefer I gloat? About being right this whole time? Who says she's just a legend now?"
My current idea is to still start with dialogue, but to move back into a significant amount of description pretty immediately afterward, and only then add more dialogue. Even this is a little hazy, since I haven’t thought much about this fic in a while. But I do think it’s quite clear this won’t work.
As for how I DO start chapters/scenes/stories… I like to start with a strong image that sets the scene and mood of the story, and hopefully leaves the reader wanting to know more. Here are some examples of story openings I’ve written recently, which I like a lot:
When Bellamy is angered, deafening bouts of thunder shake the heavens.
The cawing of the crows—high, sharp, angry shots of sound. The buzzing of the telephone wires.
Marcus Kane's body shows up again in June, skeletal and rotting, six months after his disappearance at the turn of the year.
The sky has turned a bruised yellow, like the inside of a plum, by the time Bellamy starts seeing the robots in the fields.
At noon on the third-to-last day before Christmas, Murphy leaves the cafe, with a single peppermint mocha and a small paper bag, and heads right, walking parallel to the ocean.
The last one doesn’t seem as interesting but consider: you get the who, what, when, and where, the mystery of the paper bag and where he might be going, and also the immediate understanding that this is probably going to be a Fluffy Beach Christmas story—which is correct, that’s exactly what it is.
I’m not saying that I’m always creative or unique. I often start stories off with descriptions of the weather. And I have committed the ~~cardinal sin~~ of starting with a character waking up, heaven forbid. I don’t have any hard and fast rules for myself other than that I try to avoid dialogue, or at least, be careful about its use (another example: I use dialogue to start off Mad Women—but it reads like narration, until it’s rudely interrupted, a sort of in-joke/reference/twist). I try to match the mood of the story and, as I said, include something that will create a question for the reader, some version of why, that the rest of the story will answer.
*
Day 61: Do you describe the weather? Try changing a scene you wrote by adding weather effects.
After writing a book for the last question, here’s an easy one! Yes, I describe the weather. A lot. Often. In detail.
(Though if we’re talking about the Sleeping Beauty AU as my “current wip,” I actually don’t do much weather describing there, because 4 of the 6 chapters take place in a location with no weather.)
 *
Day 62: What is your favorite thing to write about?
Honestly I like to write about people being dramatic about their emotions. That’s what I’ve discovered while writing my surprisingly self-indulgent Troped fic: I want to describe people acting as if Everything was the Most Ever. It’s fun. Part of this is getting into the usual romantic tropes—longing, pining, exaggerated touches and glances and the like—but why stop at romance when you also have stuff like The Weather and Random Feelings to contemplate?
I also like setting scenes that I find soothing, which is part of why I like Seasonal Stories.
 *
Day 63: Are you more of a drabble/flash or a longfic/novel kind of writer?
I’m in the middle. I mostly write one-shots, and I’ve noticed that a lot of them fall in the 4-6k range. Long one-shots can get all the way to 10-12k but I feel like most of those are, semi-objectively speaking, too long, and would probably have been stronger if they were pruned down to 6k, or, better yet, never made it past 6k in the first place.
I have written some multi-chapters, or, uh, started multi-chapters, but I’m VERY bad at it. The only thing that makes me slightly less bad is being stubborn. Hence the existence of a WIP that I’ve had going for over 10 years now and refuse to call abandoned. Hence this year’s extended angst about the Sleeping Beauty AU, which is only 6 chapters but has taken me literally years to write. I don’t honestly know if I’ve ever finished a multi-chapter WIP, like, properly speaking. I’ve done some short multi-chapters that I wrote as if they were one-shots and then split up for ease of reading or, I dunno, just because. I wrote a Big Bang once, but it’s not very good. Nor very long, if I remember correctly. Generally speaking I probably shouldn’t be allowed to write novels lol—I have a lot of them in my ‘I should write this one day’ idea list—but as it so happens, no one can stop me, so here we are. I definitely have wild fantasies of writing multi-chapters with ease but I’m just a very slow writer and my ideas can’t keep up with my actual-writing. Thus one shots are much easier than multi-chaps, and one-shots on a deadline are much easier than ‘I’ll finish this whenever’ one-shots. One-shots written for events or exchanges also tend to be shorter (and, imo, better) because of the deadlines they’re written on, and are thus more likely to hit that sweet 4-6k spot than stories where I’m allowed to ramble at will.
All that said, I ALSO write a good number of drabbles/writing exercises. I used to write them more often than I do now, but still over the last five years I’ve produced 110,000+ words in free-standing scenes so like… that’s also a thing I guess.

THE COURAGE OF PROJECT
Then when you start a startup anywhere. That's why mice and rabbits are furry and elephants and hippos aren't.1 The very design of the average site in the late twentieth century. He got a 4x liquidation preference. Google, it's hard to get into grad school in math. Can we claim founders are better off as a result of this new trend. Where you live should make at most a couple percent difference. But investing later should also mean they have fewer losers.
They make something moderately appealing and have decent initial growth.2 If you major in math it will be whatever the startup can get from the first one to write a paper for school, his mother would tell him: find a way to turn a billion dollar industry into a fifty million dollar industry, so much the better, if all fifty million go to you. The classic yuppie worked for a small organization. Before us, most companies in the startup funding business. The best way to get a big idea can take roost.3 4 or 5 million. This essay grew out of something I wrote for myself to figure out how to increase their load factors. But you can also apply some force by focusing the discussion: by asking what specific questions they need answered to make up their minds. This plan collapsed under its own weight.4 Startups happened because technology started to change so fast that big companies could no longer keep a lid on the smaller ones.
The only place your judgement makes a difference is in the industry.5 People who do great work, and it's a bad sign when you have a special word for that. One of the exhilarating things about coming back to Cambridge every spring is walking through the streets at dusk, when you can see into the houses. If you have steep revenue growth, say over 6x a year, no matter how many good startups approach him. Recently we managed to recruit her to help us run YC when she's not busy with architectural projects.6 This works better when a startup has 3 founders than 2, and better when the leader of the company in later rounds. I'm not saying you can get away with zero self-discipline.
We're not a replacement for don't give up. What you should not do is rebel. But while series A rounds from VCs. Someone who's scrappy manages to be both threatening and undignified at the same world everyone else does, but notice some odd detail that's compellingly mysterious.7 Even Tim O'Reilly was wearing a suit, a sight so alien I couldn't parse it at first. They can't tell how smart you are.8 The story about Web 2. Maybe one day the most important thing is to be learned from whatever book on it happens to be closest. This essay is derived from a keynote at FOWA in October 2007. They'll decide later if they want to raise.9
Sometimes it reached the point of economic sadism: site owners assumed that the more pain they caused the user, the more benefit it must be to them. It's cities that compete, not countries.10 Kids are curious, but the best founders are certainly capable of it. But investors are so fickle that you can fix for a lot of time on work that interests you, and don't just refuse to. But you have to be an insider.11 A key ingredient in many projects, almost a project on its own, is to step onto an orthogonal vector. So ironically the original description of the Web 2. Back when it cost a lot to like I've done a few things, like intro it to my friends at Foundry who were investors in Service Metrics and understand this model I am also talking to my friend Mark Pincus who had an idea like this a few years ago.12 0 seemed to mean was something about democracy. We didn't have enough saved to live on. There is another reason founders don't ask themselves whether they're default alive or default dead.13
So most investors prefer, if they wanted, raise series A rounds. They're unable to raise more money, and precisely when you'll have to switch to plan B if plan A isn't working. That doesn't mean the investor says yes to everyone. Miss out on what? It's so cheap to start web startups that orders of magnitudes more will be started. Investors evaluate startups the way customers evaluate products, not the way bosses evaluate employees. The bust was as much an overreaction as the boom.14 Startups are undergoing the same transformation that technology does when it becomes cheaper.15 Another way to fly low is to give them something for free that competitors charge for. After all, a Web 2.16 He bought a suit.
Instead you'll be compelled to seek growth in other ways. They all knew their work like a piano player knows the keys. But consulting is far from free money. They say they're going to get eliminated. What does it mean, exactly? If investors were perfect judges, the two would require exactly the same skills. And to be both good and novel, an idea probably has to seem bad to most people, or someone writes a particularly interesting article, it will show up there. The mere existence of prep schools is proof of that.17 So far the complete list of messages I've picked up from cities is: wealth, style, hipness, physical attractiveness wouldn't have been a total immersion. Don't just do what they tell you to do. But advancing technology has made web startups so cheap that you really can get a portrait of the normal distribution of most applicant pools, it matters least to judge accurately in precisely the cases where judgement has the most effect—you won't take rejection so personally. If raising money is hard.
There is no sharp line between the two types of startup ideas: those that grow organically out of your own life, and those that you decide, from afar, are going to get rarer. While some VCs have technical backgrounds, I don't know enough to say, but it happens surprisingly rarely.18 Most subjects are taught in such a boring way that it's only by discipline that you can never safely treat fundraising as more than a startup that seems like it's going to stop.19 It sounds obvious to say that you should worry? One reason startups prefer series A rounds? When I was in high school either. If you feel you've been misjudged, you can do. Google. Of course, someone has to take money from people who are young but smart and driven can make more by starting their own companies after college instead of getting jobs, that will change what happens in college.
Notes
Though they are themselves typical users. But it takes to get good grades in them to private schools that in three months, a valuation. Giving away the razor and making more per customer makes it easier to get them to stay in a time machine.
Apple's early history are from an angel investment from a mediocre VC.
In the beginning.
Plus ca change. But on the other.
And that is exactly the point of a stock is its future earnings, you now get to go behind the scenes role in IPOs, which allowed banks and savings and loans to buy it despite having no evidence it's for sale.
However, it will seem dumb in 100 years. Digg is Slashdot with voting instead of blacklist.
Sofbot.
I write out loud can expose awkward parts.
I've become a so-called signalling risk.
Hint: the way they have because they couldn't afford a monitor.
And it's particularly damaging when these investors flake, because there was a new search engine is low. They have no connections, you'll find that with a wink, to take care of one's markets is ultimately just another way in which income is doled out by Mitch Kapor, is to raise money after Demo Day, there would be easy to discount, but I'm not against editing. As one very successful YC founder told me they like the one hand and the exercise of stock options than any preceding president, he tried to shift back. At three months we can't believe anyone would think twice before crossing him.
Progressive tax rates has a significant startup hub. He, like speculators, that alone could in principle 100,000 sestertii apiece for slaves learned in the early adopters you evolve the idea is crack. As we walked in, we love big juicy lumbar disc herniation as juicy except literally.
It's sometimes argued that we didn't, they thought at least accepted additions to the modern idea were proposed by Timothy Hart in 1964, two years, it was cooked up by the National Center for Education Statistics, about 28%. I've come to accept that investors don't like the bizarre consequences of this essay talks about programmers, but I know of no Jews moving there, and should in some ways First Round excluded their most successful startups are competitive like running, not the original text would in itself deserving. This is not whether it's good enough at obscuring tokens for this type are also several you can't even claim, like play in a city with few other startups, because time seems to pass. Please do not try to avoid that.
This kind of people starting normal companies too. If Ron Conway had been raised religious and then using growth rate to manufacture a perfect growth curve, etc, and then a block or so.
But it is to trick admissions officers. I meant. The mere possibility of being harsh to founders. As he is at fault, since 95% of the class of 2007 came from such schools.
I started doing research for this purpose are still, as they are now. There was no more unlikely than it would be easier to say that it is dishonest of the next round, that suits took over during a critical point in the usual standards for truth. Wittgenstein: The French Laundry in Napa Valley.
It wouldn't cut their overall returns tenfold, because they wanted, so the best ideas, they mean statistical distribution. The original Internet forums were not web sites but Usenet newsgroups.
A doctor friend warns that even this can give an inaccurate picture. At some point, when the problems you have no idea what's happening till they also influence one another directly through the window for years while they think they're just mentioning the possibility is that in Silicon Valley. I find hardest to get rich by creating wealth—wealth that, isn't it? Look at those goddamn fleas, they have less money, the big winners aren't all that matters, just as if you'd invested at a famous university who is highly regarded by his peers.
Compromising a server could cause such damage that ASPs that want to pound that message home. He, like arithmetic drills, instead of blacklist.
Thanks to Tim O'Reilly, Peter Norvig, and the guys at O'Reilly for inviting me to speak.

A Land Not Mine - theprosefool, AO3
Link: Here!!
Rating: Explicit
Favorite Quote(s): I just, love this part so much???
Kaidan didn’t take his hand, but he smiled a relieved, worn sort of smile that added a crinkle to his eyes. “I’m glad to hear that, Shepard. I was....” He trailed off, cleared his throat.
“What?”
“I was worried you might feel like you... owe them. For bringing you back.” He looked down as he said it but his voice was firm.
"No," Shepard said easily. "I'm glad to be alive, I am--especially right now--but I didn't ask for this. Any of this. I don't owe them a damn thing."
This is how adults work children, they figure out “Oh, this person won’t back down on this subject that I also won’t back down on” and figure out a compromise or they move on until a later date. Some of y’all don’t know this and it shows.
And that was that. Shepard could tell he hadn’t entirely won Kaidan over to the idea of working with Cerberus, but Kaidan didn’t seem to have anything else to argue with. Neither of them was going to get what they wanted, so they put it away and moved on, finding no lack for conversation.
Gods how this must feel, the energy this must carry for two people to experience
Kaidan moaned against his mouth and thrust upward just a bit, but then he put his hands on Shepard’s hips to steady them both and tilted his head back to sever the kiss and look at him, eyes following the lines of scars once again. No words, just a look, his brow furrowed and his mouth a tight line despite the flush of arousal coloring his cheeks. He released his hold on one hip to touch the glow at his jaw with trembling fingers, and Shepard couldn't bare that look, not directed at him, so he closed his eyes and focussed on his touch instead. Kaidan traced that scar before moving on to another, and the trembling didn’t stop so Shepard made to distract them both, pressing forward and capturing Kaidan's lips again.
It’s almost painful in the best way possible
And that was another lie, really; as desperate as he was to stay at Kaidan’s side, he was headed back in the morning, back to his ship and his fight and his responsibilities. But it was the truth, too, somehow. Some part of him--every part of him that wasn’t Commander Shepard, Spectre, the parts that were just John, those parts would stay with Kaidan.
Smiles during sex are always a win, always, smiling and laughing is just, the best part of being With somebody else.
Kaidan must have felt his smile because now Shepard could feel his, and it left him light-headed and more than a little hard.
To know someone loves you as much as you love them, must truly be the greatest treasure in all the worlds
And maybe Kaidan wanted it just as bad as he did, for as long as he had. It felt like it, the way he touched him, greedy hands rolling hard over the muscles in Shepard’s back from the hem of his pants to the nape of his neck, the way he kept their bodies pressed close, never allowing Shepard more than an inch of distance. Not that he wanted even that.
CONSENT IS SEXY AND IT IS EASY. PERIOD. END OF STORY. NO ARGUMENTS ALOUD. (Except for the BDSM people in the back, cause y’all are better at consent even when it’s r*** play and honestly, it shows.)
He was desperate for more friction, but he wasn’t going to make the next push. He would eagerly receive and return with enthusiasm anything Kaidan offered him, but he would stop the second Kaidan hesitated. Tonight, it was Kaidan’s call.
I wonder if you can sense my gay longing the more I type
But before he could get a taste Kaidan leant down, capturing his mouth, and now all he could see was brown eyes, and that was good too, maybe better, because Kaidan was straddling his hips as they kissed,
Humor during any form of intimacy (fun fact, intimacy is My English Word that I cannot spell even though it’s my first language, we all have one, that, language and farenhehe) is important, and so is hoping for the absolute best (whatever that may be)
“I don’t, uh....” Kaidan lifted his head to look at him, a nervous smile creasing the skin around his eyes in a way that had Shepard’s heart in a clinch. “I don’t have....”
It took him a moment to grasp what Kaidan was talking about, distracted as he was by everything he could see and feel, but when comprehension dawned he had a nervous smile of his own. “M--my bag.”
Kaidan arched an eyebrow, that devilish smirk Shepard had seen so little of, and somehow it worked to calm his nerves--though not as much as the light kiss that followed. “High expectations, huh, John?” he chuckled when he pulled back.
“No. Just hopeful.”
DO YOU FEEL THE FUCKING LOVE RIGHT HERE???? BECAUSE I DO, AND NOW i’M SUFFERING FROM GAY LONGING 2.0
Shepard would never know, because Kaidan opted for taking his mouth rather than finishing the thought, but it was slow and sweet and so Kaidan that maybe Shepard knew exactly what he meant, because kissing like this felt a little like dying and a little like starting anew.
SAFE SEX IS IMPORTANT AND EASY FFS IT’S 2020
It took him longer than it should have but he found what he was looking for, a pack of condoms and a bottle of lube.
Words & Chapter(s): 30,443 words and 8 chapters
Pairing(s): Kaidan Alenko/Male Shepard (Whose name is John btw)
Summary: After being dead for two years, there’s only one person Shepard wants to see. So he writes a letter.
My summary: If I could tell you what this fic is about I’d say it is about Kaiden Alenko and John Sheppard falling so completely and irreversibly in love that it’s nearly painful to watch, or in this case, I suppose, to read
Score: 13 (I read it twice guys, me) ((Three times cause I lost half of this in an edit))  You have already left kudos here. :)
Warning(s): Shepard, and thus Kaiden, aren’t 100% sure Shep is Shep, which is fair.
Also, ME2 settings.
Mentions of Shepard dying, or rather, “dying”.
Really good lemon, you can tell when it’s going to start, basically a little after they start full-on making out. Also, I don’t mean really good as in “This got me really hot” but like “This made me Feel Emotions but In A Good Way”
Also, hope you don’t mind mid-coitus interruptions ;)
The collectors still arrive there
And so does the angst but not too much, like, Just the Right amount of angst
Minor OC character that you probably liked death
Mentions of painful injuries not gruesomely described though
Also, mentions of PTSD and Sheppard has a nightmare
Pros: This is actually my second read through, so obviously it’s good. Honestly, even if you don’t like this ship I’d still recommend it just for the story of it all.
I think my favorite part of this fic is that while there’s angst and “how do I know you’re you?” moments, it’s not needlessly dragged out to create a painful heaping pile of woeful angst. It’s a very realistic and accurate both to the characters themselves and real-life response, it’s very organic and every moment between them has this feeling of like, “Of course that happened next what else could you possibly have done there?” realism, like is Shep and Kaiden were actually real live people what else could you expect to happen but what you’re reading, if that makes any sense.
Also, I love how in love with each other they feel, how magnetic they are, how inevitable it seems, ya’know?
I just love this story and its author so freaking much, honestly, it’s just too sweet and calm and honest, even during the angsty moments it still feels good, ya’know?
But seriously, I love how close to the edge they are throughout this whole fic, how close to just, tipping over at the beginning there, it’s so, satisfying to watch and experience, and it’s amazing and filling and fulfilling and just. So. Fucking. Good.
I don’t know man, I just, really love the little ways that theprosefool gets across them being in love, or being close to it, or falling into it, like, the way this is written is just so perfectly good that I don’t even want to skip the lemon scene which is, kinda rare for me normally just for overall various reasons.
Cut from the part of the favorite lines because it grew too long to go there imo
“Smiles during sex are always a win, always, smiling and laughing is just, the best part of being With somebody else, even if it’s not sex, it’s so nice to have an intimate moment with someone and to see or feel or hear their smile, their laughs, and giggles, and chuckles, and snorts, and to just, feel how in love you are with them and in return how in love they are with you. Because, much like the song (and unlike the story, I promise they don’t break up no worries) even if you break up permanently and forever, it’s important to remember the good if at all possible. It’s important to remember that, even if y’all ain’t now, you were.
And that means something. “
Gods I’m so glad op didn’t use warmth or heat or something like that, it always jars me from the story, however they do use shaft
Tumblr media
But they also say dick instead of throbbing erection, member, manhood, etc. so it’s okay!
Aesthetic: But in all seriousness, the realism and humanity flowing like a gentle river through your hand in the form of words is just, so fucking refreshing. It’s like drinking lemonade in a Vegas summer, like playing with your friends the first day of fourth-grade recess, like holding hands with your girlfriend, like remembering your first kiss as a preteen, like being hugged by your friend during a panic attack, like laughing so hard you snort AND cry and lose your breath, it feels like looking at him and just, falling, it feels like jumping into the pool and making the biggest splash, like playing in the neighborhood streets, like being a kid, like remembering that homework you swore was the hardest and thinking back and realizing that just wasn't true, but also how proud you were to finish it.
Food Aesthetic: Vanilla ice cream cones during the summer, French hot chocolate during the winter, cheesy fries during fall, and fresh sweet plums during spring all while still holding their hand, and kissing their cheeks and nose and lips, and making a mess and laughing about it. Just, silly food moments that make you fall in love a little bit more.
Word Aesthetic because I can: Longing. (Obviously.)
Song Aesthetic: Wolf Alice - Don't Delete the Kisses (And the video and possibly the whole fucking playlist too) but the ending feels like this one Alanis Morissette - Hand In My Pocket oddly enough and maybe also, the innocent unwavering love of this song, and it’s music video Heartless Bastards - Only For You
Gif Aesthetic: Their relationship feel like this (disclaimer, they’re not girls, sadly... I should look for that👀)
Tumblr media
And this
Tumblr media
And this too
Tumblr media
But also, meanwhile, Sheppard and Kaiden @ Cerberus immediately and without hesitation at all times 25/∞

Things that I wish people would use more of in Friday the 13th and Halloween (Crossover) fics:
Judith Myers and Jason Voorhees are only a year apart in age. Summer Camp is a great opportunity to get kids from one state to an other.
If you are going the “not related” Halloween 2018 route: Laurie was 17 in Halloween, and Michael was 21. They would’ve attended the same schools if Myers wasn’t institutionalized, and likely ran into each other on several occasions in town
Mini Rant: (Myer’s bday is Oct 17, he just turned 6 and would’ve been two months into 1st grade for the 63/64 year, and would’ve graduated HS in 76. Laurie was a senior in HS on Halloween 78. She would’ve graduated in 79, and turn 18 at some point between Halloween and Graduation. She would be a freshmen in HS the same year he would be a senior. Also small town grade schools in Illinois tend to run K-5th grade in the same school system, they would’ve prob been on the same gd bus to school as kids for a couple years)
Magic exists in the Ft13 universe, and in the H3 and H4/5/6 timelines, and the DBD timeline. But not in the H20/Res. RZH, and 2018 Halloweens.  Nor is it brought up in any Ft13 prior to 6. Keep your Halloween Timelines straight and make it clear to which Michael you are writing for.
Jason had a sister. He used his sister’s dead body to re-undead himself. (He also has a niece, and a great-niece, which are not dead)
Michael has at least one child from the 4/5/6 universe (depending on which version of 6 you are watching)... lots of unfortunate implications abound.
Mini rant: (producers cut): it is universally considered non-con due to being OOC on Michael’s part and in a dream on Jamie’s part (who’s memory couldn’t be counted as 100% accurate because of trauma).  Basically common consensus is that neither of them had a say, and likely a combination of magic/drugs/abuse to get the two of them together.
(theatrical version): The Cult used IVF on several patients unwillingly with his “DNA” in attempt to make several children: meaning more victims and not to mention having to extract the DNA from him... no wonder he went batshit on them all in the re-shoots. also implies that not all of the attempts were failures, just most of them, so not just Jamie’s was a success.
Jason’s Great-Niece and Michael’s son are only 3-years, at most 4 years, apart in age. They could literally have gone to school/collage together. (yes, collage, they are both in their 20′s now)... note similar rant above about Michael and Laurie’s ages.
Michael isn’t emotionless. He lacks empathy (the ability to relate emotionally to others... he’s a selfish self-centered boy). Though, on the flip side, he understands how people work to the point of being able to manipulate them.
The 78 novel specifically goes out of the way to say he just stopped talking because there was no point anymore.  And later it became some kind of “game” and part of him manipulating people around him to get them to either Leave Him Alone or Annoy the Shit out of them and see their reaction. His silence/non-reaction is a choice.
Jason has several things going on with him as to why he doesn’t talk. He spoke in 8, but as a child’s voice, and turned into a child’s form afterwards.
Likely he could talk, in some limited capacity, prior to him falling into the lake. He prob had a condition similar to Joseph Merrick’s (The Elephant Man), yet nearly not as extreme a case. A condition that develops over time. It explains why Jason’s appearance gets worse across parts 2, 3, and 4, when he was still alive.
Someone had to be helping Jason after being lost in the woods as a child.
When he showed up in Part 2, he had some basic understanding of how the world worked. He also didn’t look like he was struggling to find things to eat, and he had clean clothes that fit him. He does a pretty good job being able to navigate the city to find that girl from the first movie and when he was in NY in the 8th one.  He has disabilities, he’s not completely stupid. o_0
(feel free to link me to some actual AO3 fics that use some/most of these examples. No walls of text plz.  i kind of have this weird aversion to fics that have too much fluff or out of character moments).

Ranking All 61 Movies I’ve Watched So Far This Year From Worst to Best
So this would work better as a countdown but I’m too lazy so 1 is the worst and 61 is the best.
1.       Tomorrow is Forever
It is a testament to my love for my grandmother that I even finished this godawful excuse of a movie.
2.       Flower
If there’s one thing I love it’s stories about teenage girls who are characterized by their quirky desire to give blow jobs to gross men for fun... said no one ever.
3.       Savage Grace
Even Hugh Dancy couldn’t save this dry, stale train wreck of unsexiness.
4.       Hellraiser
There’s a thin line between classic and stale and this movie treads right over it.
5.       The Devil’s Candy
Forgettable.
6.       Night of the Living Dead (Remake)
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
7.       Eighth Grade
I wanted to love this movie but it seemed too devoted to being realistic to actually tell a satisfying story.
8.       American Psycho
One of those movies you feel like you’ve already seen even if you haven’t.
9.       Vicky Cristina Barcelona
I wanted to like it. I really did. But it had all the charm of a wet sweaty sock.
10.   Thelma
Great premise but it just felt kind of mediocre in execution. Maybe I was just too tired when I watched it.
11.   Lady Bird
I HATED THIS MOVIE. It was so bad that I honestly can’t even rate it as the worst because it was so actively terrible I almost enjoyed it in retrospect. I love Greta but honestly it was such a mediocre piece of basic white girl shit I can’t even review it properly.
12.   To Have or To Have Not
It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t particularly good.
13.   Professor Marston and the Wonder Woman
I wanted to love it. Who wouldn’t? But it was just weird and unsexy and creepy.
14.   The Big Sick
Actively lacked charm.
15.   Dracula (the one with Winona)
I mean, it was creative enough to almost save itself from its own stale take on the novel.
16.   White Zombie
The film itself wasn’t interesting but I watched it for a class and the criticism was really eye-opening.
17.   The Unknown
Joan Crawford plays this woman who falls in love with a supposedly armless Lon Chaney in a sideshow because he can’t touch her with his dirty hands, not knowing that he’s lying about being armless to hide from the law. The novelty of the plot alone makes it worth a shot.
18.   Possessed
Joan Crawford plays a crazy woman. Somehow this is surprising to no one.
19.   Saw
It just felt dirty and not in a fun way.
20.   Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte
Another movie I watched with my grandmother. I’d seen it before which made it lose its bite.
21.   Stepford Wives
I found the book more enjoyable.
22.   A Quiet Place
There’s something cringe-y and self-indulgent about watching John Krasinski direct himself as the self-sacrificing macho-male hero in a movie he literally starts in with his wife. Pass.
23.   Babysitter
I have a crush on Samara Weaving, ok?
24.   The First Time
I honestly don’t even know why I watched this movie but it filled a teen comedy shaped whole in my watch list so I’m not about to complain.
25.   Rosemary’s Baby
I liked it more than I thought I would.
26.   Ingrid Goes West
I thought it would rank higher honestly.
27.   Apostasy
Jesus. This is a tough, ugly movie on every level, and all its characters feel totally un-redeemable. With that being said, it’s a pretty accurate portrayal of Jehovah’s Witness life.
28.   Disobedience
Sexy light.
29.   Killing of a Sacred Deer
I just didn’t feel it the way I felt The Lobster.
30.   Equals
It had Kristen Stewart, ok??
31.   Princess Cyd
Cute.
32.   The Importance of Being Earnest
Cute again.
33.   Hour of the Wolf
A bit disturbing but well done, I think? I don’t know, I was tired as hell when I watched this.
34.   Gaslight
Wasn’t as great the second time around but still ok.
35.   The Exorcist
Much better than I thought it would be.
35.5 A Star Is Born
Good music but fucked up plot.
36.   Into the Wild
Note to self: this is not a good movie to watch during your first nine-to-five job.
37.   Cleo from 5 to 7
The aesthetic is strong with this one.
38.   Phantom of the Opera
Rewatched it for the first time in ten years. Realized the phantom was a fucking creep.
39.   The Greatest Showman
I liked it so much more than I thought I would?
40.   Mamma Mia 2
Judge me all you want. I watched this movie with my mother and grandmother in the theater at the end of summer. It was a good memory.
41.   Crazy Rich Asians
I just liked it.
42.   Obvious Child
Similar to The Big Sick but just felt like a few steps up.
43.   Ritual
Fun and very creepy.
44.   Assassination Nation
I honestly don’t even know what the fuck to mentally do with this movie. It defies categorization and is undeniably bad but in a can’t-look-away-from-the-car-crash way you have to almost admire.
45.   What. Bo Burnham
I love Bo.
46.   Kid Gorgeous John Mulaney
I also love Mulaney.
47.   La Pianist
I like sadomasochism occasionally in my feature films, ok?
47.5 (Sorry, I forgot this one in the original count) The Miseducation of Cameron Post
I was admittedly in an altered state watching this. If I wasn’t, it might’ve ranked higher.
48.   Hereditary
It made it this far on the strength of a single scene which was my favorite of the year. The movie as a whole wasn’t the strongest, though.
49.   The Purge
Enjoyable horror.
50.   Nanette – Hannah Gadsby
I’m a simple girl. I like long walks on the beach, pina coladas, and comedy that makes me ugly cry.
51.   Frances Ha
I actually watched it twice this year and loved it both times. Greta is perfect.
52.   Thoroughbreds
Stylish and just ultimately well done and enjoyable. Flirts with Sapphic content which is an added bonus.
53.   The Shape of Water
I have a crush on this movie. It’s basically like that kid in class who is a little bizarre and probably not that intelligent but attractive enough to make up for that deficit.
54.   Phone Call From a Stranger
I fucking loved this little old black and white soap opera.
55.   God’s Own Country
Almost Brokeback.
56.   Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party
I’m a sucker for gay Christians and uncomfortable comedy.
57.   Creep 2
SO. MUCH. FUN. It’s like gazing through the Casual Encounters section of Craigslist times 100.
58.   Cam
Madeline Brewer invented acting in this movie.
59.   Creep
This movie restored my faith in horror.
60.   Make Happy - Bo Burnham
This “comedy” show gave me an existential fucking crisis and ruined my life forever. 10/10 would recommend.
61.   Call Me By Your Name
This movie melted my ice-queen heart and reminded me what it once felt like to fall in love. I can’t even stand how much I love love love everything about it.

what to say next
Tumblr media
hi !! i redownloaded tumblr due to an abundance of quarentine boredom. since my life is the exact opposite of interesting and aesthetic, i thought i would take up book reviews on this blog. i loveee reading, so my first review will be what to say next by julie buxbaum
disclaimer-this review will NOT be spoiler free. i'll include a little warning when we're nearing a spoiler but still, there will be spoilers.
a little bit of background info:
synopsis:
when an unlikely friendship is sparked between relatively popular kit lowell and socially isolated david drucker, everyone is surprised, most of all kit and david. kit appreciates david's blunt honesty--in fact, she finds it bizarrely refreshing. david welcomes kit's attention and her inquisitive nature. when she asks for his help figuring out the how and why of her dad's tragic car accident, david is all in. but neither of them can predict what they'll find. can their friendship survive the truth?
first off, i'll review our two main character, kit and david.
kit- okay, im going to take into account her tough situation. i do not expect kit to be all peachy and cheery, but she's really a bitch. i dont want to be too hard on her but she was just so unlikable to me. like how she treats her two "best friends", violet and anna. she treats them like absolute shit. she ignores them, complains, and makes them out to be air heads. but then when she actually takes the time to really describe them, they're two perfectly nice girls. they're extremely nice to kit, and are always there for her despite her cold shoulder. she magically expects them to just do everything she wants without ever expressing what she wants. also, the way she totally shut her mom out was so mean. i understand where shes coming from, but wishing death on your mother and then being unable to apologize? seriously? she was just a bitch and got on my nerves a lot. but she was still a lot more forgiving than i would expect towards the end of the book. 4/10
david-well, david was a sweet guy. i can say with confidence that i enjoyed his chapters more than kit. theres not much to say about him. he's just a sweet guy, and i liked reading his interactions with trey, other students, miney, etc. it was like a breath of fresh air honestly, david isnt like most young adult contemporary guys and i appreciated that. 8/10
writing-julie buxbaum's former book, tell me three things, was an airport read for me. i barely remember a thing about it but when pulling up my goodreads review from years ago, i saw i gave it a 3/5 and said the plot twist was predictable (apparently sixth grade paige was able to guess the ending within 40 pages). well, the author has definently improved on that now. [spoiler here] i could tell david's journal was going to get stolen, with the way he just left it out in the open and such, that wasn't anything new. but when it was revealed kit was driving the car when her dad died, that really shocked me. i never would've been able to guess it and it was a great plot twist. buxbaum had a lot of cute moments in this book, i feel like sometimes she described things in more detail than necessary but we're all guilty of that. overall her writing has improved from her last book. 7/10
plot-the plot to this book wasn't really there for me. we have two kids from different social circles suddenly getting close, c'mon, that's such a cliche. the book i just read, tweet cute, had this same exact set up and executed it better (the cute scenes in tweet cute are literally to die for, everyone needs to read that book). anyways, what sets this book apart is that david is neurodivergint and kit is a mixed poc with a dead dad. david was written well, i'm not nd myself so i cannot speak on if he was written accurately or anything but i assume so. im a poc, and when i read about kit it was meh. the author is a white woman and the way she described indian culture, especially in like the first 100 pages of this book, made me think she had an indian husband. upon a quick google search, her personal life isn't really out there. ha, i wonder if she had an indian brother in law or something. anyways, back to the plot. followed a cliche but had refreshing characters. 7/10
overall-6/10, the same review i gave for tell me three things. when i did that google search, i saw she had a new book come out this year. i'll check it out, if my local library has it expect a review at some point in the future.
link to purchase the book

My sexuality is such a complicated thing for me to think/talk about, because I know I’m still figuring it out.
I want to talk about growing up as a queer girl though.
When I was little, like under 6, I would play with my barbie dolls and make them fall in love and marry each other. I had no interest in making them marry Ken dolls, until I was older and thought that was what I was supposed to do.
In the second grade I became friends with a boy named Ash, and he and I did everything together. Of course my classmates, even at 8 years old, had been trained to believe that if a girl and a boy were friends, they must be in love. And after months of teasing about this from my friends, I finally gave in and “admitted” to having a crush on him. I remember wanting to later tell them I had made it up but I knew they wouldn’t believe me. Ash moved away that summer, and I never saw him again. I thought the issue was over.
Until the 5th grade, when a girl in my class asked me who I had a crush on. I said no one. She didn’t believe me. “You must think one of these boys is cute, right?” I didn’t. Boys were mean and ugly as far as I was concerned. But she wouldn’t give in so I looked around the table and pointed to a random boy, who had offered to play Minecraft with me earlier in the day. And so for the rest of the year, I had to pretend to like this boy.
The summer between 6 and 7th grade, I was talking to another friend about how I had never actually had a crush. The friend asked me if it was possible I was Asexual. I thought about this and realized it made a lot of sense. I had never had a crush, so didn’t this explain it? I did a bunch of research on Aro/ace identities and micro labels and used them for myself online until highschool. I didn’t tell anyone IRL because internalized homophobia that I rationalized with the idea of “well I’m only 13 anyway, no one expects me to date so I don’t really need to tell them”
In high school, for the first time I met a bunch of queer kids. Most importantly I met a lesbian for the first time, who really opened my eyes to the idea a girl could be romantically involved with another girl. When they asked me if I was lgbt too, I told them I didn’t know. That I was questioning. And they were actually really supportive about that.
In the Fall of sophomore year I mentioned to my aforementioned queer friends that I had a Pinterest board full of pictures of beautiful girls, and another one full of close ups of girls eyes, because I think they’re really pretty and they make me feel warm inside. Immediately my wlw and nblw friends were like “uh that’s pretty fucking gay” and I went ??? Really?
And that’s where my sexuality crisis really started. I had never had a crush on a girl so I didn’t know if I was really queer or not. And if I was, was I bi? Pan? A lesbian? I found boys to be disgusting, but I spent my whole life thinking girls were just supposed to settle for a guy. I was so confused before I was shown the lesbian master doc and learned about comp. het. I really connected with it. By March of sophomore year, around 6 months since I really realized I may be gay, I decided on the label of lesbian. And I came out to my sibling on accident, but that was fine since they’re bi and trans.
I came out to everyone except my family as a lesbian, even though I knew that wasnt completely accurate. I still didn’t feel sexual attraction, so I know I’m somewhere on the asexuality spectrum. But it’s ok to not know 100% your identity, because labels are just words and if you connect to it, it doesn’t need to be 100% accurate

The Heaven We Didn’t Choose, Chapter 7: In Which Skeletons are Explained
...From a scientific and magical point of view, of course.
First: Chapter 1: In Which a Child Makes a Friend
Previous: Chapter 6: In Which Everybody Threatens Sans
Next: Chapter 8: In Which The Internet is Invoked
Click here for the story overview.
By the time Sans tracked down Attie (who had somehow crawled into the dryer and was rocking herself back and forth) it was after 1:00.
This was a problem, he realized as he consulted the schedule Undyne had pinned to a cupboard with a paring knife.  Lunch was supposed to end at 1:00, and he had no idea what to even start cooking.
“Can I have a hot dog?”  Attie asked.  “You make hot dogs, right?”
“Uh...sure, but…”
“Okay!  Where are they?”
“I don’t think I…” He checked the fridge, just in case.  The shelves, to his surprise, had actual groceries on them.  Huh.  Someone must’ve stocked up.  Half of this stuff he didn’t even recognize.  Weird.
To his everlasting shock, one drawer held a six-pack of ‘dogs.  On the package was a pink sticky note covered with Boss’s handwriting:
YOU CAN HAVE HOT DOGS FOR NO MORE THAN ONE MEAL PER DAY, SANS. BUNS ARE IN THE CUPBOARD. ~THE G&T PAPYRUS
Ooooookay.
Sure enough, a quick survey of the cupboards (also stocked with more food than Sans was used to seeing) turned up a package of buns - the good kind, not the cheap tasteless things he threw on the ‘dogs at his stand.
Cooking them properly was...more work than he really wanted.  He didn’t have a rolling warmer in the apartment, and he didn’t want to wait for the ‘dogs to slow cook anyways.  He slipped both ‘dogs into their buns and stuck them in the microwave for half a minute.
Amazingly, the ‘dogs didn’t explode (unlike most things he microwaved).  He sent out a tentative thread of magic to feel for temperature, not trusting his bones to give him an accurate read.  It felt...less than boiling hot, but beyond that he wasn’t sure.
“Uh, here, kid.  Bone appetite, heh.  Careful; not sure if it’s hot.”
“Okay!”  Attie grabbed the ‘dog with both hands, took a big bite, and winced.  “Iff a liffle hoff,” she said, mouth full.  She swallowed anyways, so he wasn’t too worried.
“Hey, kid; if that’s too hot for ya, wanna see somethin’ cool?”
“Sure,” she said, before taking another huge bite.
Sans opened his mouth, tilted his head back, and shoved the entire hot dog, bun and all, into his mouth.  He felt his magic protesting - he wasn’t really made to do this - but he ignored the discomfort and resisted the urge to cough.
Attie was staring at him with huge eyes, a half-chewed bite of hot dog visible in her mouth.  He waited a moment for his magic to dissolve the ‘dog enough to talk, then laughed at her.  “What, you can’t do that?”
“No,” she said around her masticated food.  She closed her mouth, realizing her error, then chewed and swallowed with a thoughtful look on her face.
Sans knew that look.
The girl held the remaining half of her ‘dog out to him.  “Teach me,” she demanded.
“Yeah, no, kid.”
“Why not?”
“Humans aren’t built like us.  You’ll choke yourself, then Undyne’ll kill me, then Boss’ll kill me, then your mom and her mom’ll kill me.  I’ll be super dead.”
“You’re silly, Mr. Sans.”
“Yep.  That’s me, regular comedian.”
“Teach me!”
"No, kid!”
“Please?”
“No!”
“Pretty please with a cherry on top?”  She blinked rapidly, her lower lip extended.
“What, is that supposed to make me more willing to teach you how to suffocate on ‘dogs?   Hell no, kid!  And stop making that face; the lip shit is super creepy!”
“Awww,” Attie muttered, dejected, to her ‘dog.
“Tell ya what.  You finish your ‘dog, and when it’s science time I’ll tell you all about how a skeleton can eat a whole ‘dog at once.  Okay?”
“Okaaaaay.”  She finished her meal in the largest bites possible, sending herself into more than one coughing fit.
Science wasn’t next on the list, though.  Next was something called Grammar, which Attie tried her best to wiggle out of.  She wouldn’t capitulate until Sans reminded her that she couldn’t see her mom until her schoolwork was done.
Schoolwork went by very quickly after that.
He wasn’t sure how much of it was actually correct - according to the note Undyne had left, the worksheets would be delivered to Tori for grading - but he was impressed by her speed.
True to his word, he spent the entire 45-minute “Science” time slot sitting at the dining room table explaining what he knew about a skeleton’s magical digestive system.  He even let Attie drop things into his mouth - jelly beans, mostly, after they found some in the cupboard and he accidentally revealed that he’d never eaten them before - so she could see that they vanished instead of dropping out the bottom of his skull.
“You don’t look like a real skeleton,” Attie said, peering intently at the juncture where his skull met his spine.  “You’re shaped really different.”
“I promise you, I am 100% a real skeleton.  I just don’t look like a human skeleton.”  And if he had a buck for every time he’d had to explain that to a human he’d have a whole herd.
“That’s what I meant, sorry.”  She narrowed her eyes, then leaned over and slapped both hands to Sans’s cheeks.
He flinched, hard, but the impact - despite its force - did no actual damage.  He stifled the urge to slap her hands away.  “What’chu up to, huh?”
“Your face feels funny.”  She tapped her fingertips against his cheekbones.  “You feel kinda soft.”
He growled.  He wasn’t used to being touched, and having someone - even someone so small - put her hands on his face was really uncomfortable.  “You can stop that now, kid.  Don’t make me remove you.”
She paused, then looked him in the eye sockets.  She must have been able to read some part of his expression because she snatched her hands away and sat back into her chair.  “Sorry, Mr. Sans.”
“‘Tsokay.  Just...don’t do that again, yeah?  You wouldn’t want me to put my hands all over your face, would’ja?  No?  Then don’t do it to other people.”
“But you’re so cool!"
He coughed.  “That’s no excuse, kid.  You gotta ask before you do that to someone.”
“Why?”
“It’s...polite?”
She tilted her head to the side.  “But you don’t care about being polite.  You’re a asshole.”
“Just...it’s...yer mom’d kill me if I taught you bad habits, okay?  And it makes people uncomfortable, and I know you’re too young to really understand yourself in relation to others but you don’t do things like that, okay?  You’ll learn as you get older.”
“Okay.”
“And it’s kinda rude to call people assholes.  Just...while we’re on the topic.”
She giggled.  “Okay.  But you still are one.”
“You got that right.”
Silence.
He rubbed the back of his vertebrae.  “Ooookay, then.  Uh, what’s left on the list?”
Attie ran into the kitchen and consulted the note.  “Art!” she called back.
“Huh?  Art?  What kind of pansy school bullshit is that?”
The girl stomped back into the dining room.  “My favorite."
“...Oh.”  He pondered this.  “So...what do you do for ‘art?’  I don’t know a damn thing, but isn’t art pictures and stuff?”  Hadn’t Boss called his spaghetti ‘art’ at some point?  Did that count?
“I mean...I guess I can color,” she said.  “I have my coloring pencils in my bag!”
“Okay, but...aaaand she’s gone.”  Sans pondered chasing after the kid, but decided it would be too much effort.  He was tired.  Between keeping up with Attie and texting Frisk periodically throughout the day, he really just wanted a nap.
She returned a few minutes later with a box of pencils and a pad of paper.  She didn’t say anything or ask questions - a miracle, given how the rest of her schoolwork had gone - but instead hummed to herself as she emptied the box of pencils across the table and began to draw.
The scratching of the paper and the off-key humming was...strangely calming, actually…
“Mr. Sans!”
“Hrk-wha?”  He sat up quickly and looked around.  When had he put his head on the table?
Attie was leaning towards him.  Her pencils were packed up and sitting neatly atop a small pile of loose papers.  “You were asleep,” she said.
“Oh.  Uh, sorry, kid.”
“‘Tsokay.  Mommy takes naps sometimes too.  I don’t usually take naps anymore ‘cause I’m a big girl now, but Mommy says that sometimes grown-ups work too hard and have to take naps.”
“Yeah, sometimes.”  He was feeling pretty groggy.
“Also, your phone was ringing.”
“Shit!”  He dug around in his pocket until he found the offending hunk of metal.
“Bad word!”  Attie howled.
Frisky Dreamer 3:25 PM Sans, you’re late for your check-in.  Just because I’m drugged into unconsciousness does not excuse you not sending an update and stuff. I am so high right now Ignore that last one
Frisky Dreamer 4:03 PM Sans, I haven’t heard from you in two horse. Hours.
Frisky Dreamer 4:22 PM SNAS, ANSER UR DAM PHONE!
“Uh, kid?  Don’t you have a phone too?”
“No...oh!  Wait!”  She pushed herself back from the table and tottered off down the hallway.  Sans sighed and tapped out a message.
You 4:26 PM Were doing art Kid really drew me into it
The response was immediate.
Frisky Dreamer 4:26 PM You fell asleep again, didn’t you.
You 4:27 PM Hey do u wanna have us come visit u or not
Frisky Dreamer 4:27 PM Whatever.
He grinned.  Apparently, that worked on both mother and daughter.  Speaking of which… “Kid?  You find that phone?  We need to head out if we’re gonna go see your mom.”
“I found it!”  She returned with the phone in all its pink and blue glory.  “I have a message from Mommy, see?”
There was, indeed, a message from Frisk asking (in a much nicer tone) how her day was going.
“Hey, what’s that less-than-three thing mean?”
“Oh.  It’s a soul!  See?”  She held the phone on its side.
“That’s...weird.  And isn’t that upside down?”  Sans flipped the phone on its other side.
“But I’m a human!  Our souls go the other way.”
“Oh.  Right.  Anyways, are you ready to go see yer mom?  I’d better let her see for herself that you’re in one piece.  I don’t think she believes that I haven’t eaten you yet.”
Attie giggled, but awkwardly bundled into her coat and shoes anyways.  She seemed to be struggling with her shoelaces.  It was funny to watch.
“You, uh, got that, kid?”
“Maybe.  These aren’t my favorite shoes.  My favorite shoes are pink and they have flowers on them and they light up when I walk, which is why they’re my favorite.  Those ones have velcro on them so I don’t have to tie them, but these ones just have shoelaces.”
Sans nodded noncommittally.  He briefly considered helping her but…
...Nah.
She eventually knotted them into submission and tucked the ends of the laces inside the top of her shoes.  Shrugging, she grabbed the stack of papers and tucked them under her arm.  “Okay!  I’m ready!”
“Uh...what’s with that stuff, kid?  I thought that was your art.”
“It is!  I drew pictures for Mommy.  I’m gonna show her and see if she can hang them up in her hospital room.  She usually hangs them up on the ‘frigerator, but there isn’t a ‘frigerator in her room I don’t think.”
“Fair enough.  Okay, you ready?”
“Yep!”
He put both hands on her shoulders.  “One, two,” and... teleport.
Attie grabbed onto his arms for support when they reappeared in a protected nook across the street from Ebott Medical Pavilion.  “Oh!  That time it wasn’t so bad!”
“Yeah.  You should get used to it soon enough.”
“That’s pretty cool!  Can you teach me how to do that...that…”
“‘Ts called ‘teleporting,’ kid.  Disappearing and reappearing in a different place, kinda like the world’s best shortcut.  It’s a bit more complicated than that, but...it can get pretty sciencey.  And no, I’m pretty sure I can’t teach you how to do that, either.”
She pouted all the way up to her mom’s room.
He opened the door first, not wanting to interrupt anything, but Frisk was awake.  And waiting, of course.  “Sans,” she said in a tone that brooked no argument, “Why don’t you come on in.”
He came right the heck on in, one hand guiding Attie in front of him.  “Say ‘hi’ to yer mom, kid.”
The girl paused for a moment, staring at her mother.  Frisk did look pretty bad still.  Sans hoped Attie wasn’t going to scream or cry or cause a fit; he knew he’d be blamed if she did.
“Hi,” she said in a very quiet voice.
Frisk smiled.  It was the same smile she’d worn earlier when he sent her the picture of Attie and Undyne, and he fought the urge to look away.  “Hey, baby girl.  Won’t you come up and give me a hug?”
“I-I don’t wanna hurt you when you’re sick.”
“I’ll be okay.  Just make it a gentle hug.  No jumping.”
The little girl tiptoed up to the bed, leaned up, and gently put her arms around her mother.  They both sighed at the same time.
“Now what did you bring me?  Oh-Sans, chair.”  She gestured towards the aforementioned furniture, which had been moved against a wall.
Sans sat.
“I brought you pictures!”  Attie said.  She laid out each page individually on the bed, covering the blanket almost entirely.  “This is the room where I slept last night.  See?  It’s full of skeleton stuff!  It belongs to a guy called Mr. Boss, but Undie said that wasn’t his real name.”
“It isn’t,” Frisk said.  “His real name is Papyrus.  But go ahead.”
“Oh, right.  This is Mr. Pa-py-rus’s room.  He let me sleep on his bed, ‘cause he said Mr. Sans’s room was pretty messy.  It is, y’know.”
“Oh?  When were you in Sans’s room?”
“I hid in there before lunch.  Mr. Boss - I mean, Mr. Pa-py-rus - came in and was beating up Mr. Sans because of paperwork.  Then Mr. Pa-pyrus tried to fight me until Mr. Sans finished the paperwork.”  She held up another picture.  From his vantage point, Sans could barely see three blobby figures: two black and red, one blue and pink and black.  “See?  Mr. Pa-pyrus is trying to fight me ‘cause I told him not to beat up Mr. Sans.  Mr. Sans finished the paperwork before he stopped talking.  He talked a whole lot, more than Granny Ree does sometimes.”
“Papyrus...tried to fight you.”
“Yeah.  I was kinda mad that Mr. Sans did paperwork instead of saving me, but it’s all better now.”
“What?”
“He said ‘I’m sorry, kid’ and I said ‘I forgive you.’  And he said that he would’ve stopped Mr. Papyrus if he’d really started fighting, so it’s okay.”
Frisk pulled her daughter in for another hug.  Over the child’s head, she gave Sans a long, intense look.  He squirmed in his chair a little.
“Fine.  I guess...it’s okay, if you aren’t hurt.  I’ll have to have a long talk with Undyne about this, though; I don’t want you in a house where someone’s going to attack you at random.”
“It wasn’t an ‘at random!’  He tried to fight me because I told him not to beat up Mr. Sans.  Remember?  I told you.”
“That’s right.  Hey, Attie, could you do something for me?”
“Yyyep!”
“Can you get me a drink of water?  There’s a water fountain at the end of the hallway, out and to your left.  Here’s my cup.  Go out, fill the cup with water, and come right back so you can show me the rest of the pictures.  Don’t spill.”
“Okay, Mommy!”  She wiggled off the bed, careful not to wrinkle any of her drawings, and left the two adults alone.
Sans glanced at the side table.  “You already have a cup of water,” he muttered.
“That’s not the point.  You know that.”
He did.  “Look.  You know that the best way to get Boss to stand down is to give him what he wants.  He wanted paperwork; I finished the damn paperwork.  It’s not my fault Undyne changed her schedule without telling me.”
“If you hadn’t fallen asleep in here earlier, you wouldn’t have had to rush.”
“Yeah, well, I wasn’t exactly running on a whole lotta sleep.  You know, after carting you and Attie all over town last night.”
Frisk’s hand clenched the blanket over her knee, then relaxed.  “I...that isn’t what I wanted to talk with you about.  Sans...does that happen on a regular basis?”
“The naps?  Well sure.  I’m-”
“Not the naps.  Don’t play dumb.  You know what I’m asking about.”
The look on her face said that she was not in the mood to be messed with; she wanted answers, and she knew he could give them.  Strange, that this human was the only one to realize that his stupidity was an act.  “...Yeah, I know.  And…”
What could he say?
“Sans?”
“Yeah.  Just...I don’t know how to answer that.  Boss...he gets aggressive when he’s angry, you know?  And I’m one of the things that makes him angry the most.  It’s my fault, really.  You get it, right?”  He winked.
Frisk’s expression didn’t change.
“A-anyways, I’ll watch the kid closer.  She can...I dunno, hide out in my room when he’s around.  I’ll clean up and everything.  That way she won’t have to see it.”
“That doesn’t answer my question.  I didn’t ask why it happened, or whose fault it was, or how you plan to cover it up.  I asked how often it happens."
“...Not as much as you’re thinking, but more than you’d like.”
“How typically vague.  Are we talking once a day?  A week?  A month?”
“Couple times a week?  I dunno.  I’ve never charted it out.”
“Alright.  Alright."  Frisk took a deep breath.  “That stops now.  Whatever you and your brother do when there aren’t kids in the house, that’s your...ah...business-”
“Hey!”
“-but I won’t have the pair of you scarring my daughter.  Both of you will be on your best behavior, alright?”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Mommy!”  Attie shuffled in with a glass full of water, her tongue peeking out from between her lips and a look of concentration on her face.  “I...almost...have...the...water...OOPS!”
She tripped over her own feet and the water spilled.
“Attie!”  Frisk was halfway out of bed before she was stopped short by the plastic tubes the doctors had stabbed into her arms.
It didn’t matter much; Attie was floating gently in mid-air, faintly glowing.  “Blue!” she cooed.
“Sans,” her mother said, “Put her down.  Gently.”
He did.
No one spoke for a long moment.
“I’ll excuse it just this once, because it looked like you were keeping Attie from getting hurt.  But if you ever - ever - use blue magic on my daughter again, I will hunt you down.  Is that clear?”
“Yeah, Boss.”
Frisk slammed her hand onto the bedside table, causing both Attie and Sans to jump.  “I am NOT your BOSS, Sans!”
“Yeah, uh, sure.”
A nurse popped her head into the doorway.  “Everything alright in here, sweetie?”
“Yes,” Frisk said.  “We’re fine.  Sorry to disturb you.”
“Oh, it’s no trouble.  Anytime a loved one is sick tempers run high, y’know?  Y’all just take a deep breath; no worries.  Oh, and visiting time is almost up, unless your honey there wants to stay the night.”  The nurse wiggled her eyebrows.
It took Sans a beat to realize that the nurse meant him, not Attie, and he wanted to crawl into his own hood in embarrassment.  “Nah, gotta get this kid into bed.  Early mornin’ and all that.”
“Alright, then, sweet thang.  Y’all take it easy and let me know if you need anything.”  She closed the door gently behind her.
Sans carefully avoided looking at the humans.
“Alright, Attie; time for you to go now.  Come give Mommy a kiss and head home with Sans, alright?”
There was a shuffle as Attie did as requested.  “Can I come see you tomorrow?  I didn’t get to show you the rest of the pictures.”
“Maybe.  Mommy’s pretty tired.  If everything goes well, then yeah.”
“Okay.  G’night!  Don’t let the bedbugs bite!”
“You too, Attie.”
“I won’t.  I bet the bedbugs are scared of Mr. Papyrus.”
“I’m sure they are.”
A small hand in his interrupted Sans’s studied ignorance of the proceedings.  He glanced down to find Attie grinning up at him.  “Ready to go, kid?”
“Yup!”
“‘Kay, then.”  He gently started to tug her out of the room.
She resisted.  “Wait!  You didn’t say goodbye to Mommy!”
“Uh...bye, kiddo.”
“Her name isn’t kiddo, Mr. Sans.”
“Bye...Frisk?”
The woman on the bed breathed deeply, but didn’t look at him.  “Text me when you get home.  You owe me a few check-ins.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
They left.

So, when I was in 7th Grade I wasn’t diagnosed with Autism yet and at the very end of the year I went to a place called Northwest Passage in order to be diagnosed, but unfortunately, a few things happened; I overdosed on Tylenol  and had my stomach pumped, I was very violent towards myself, my family, and items so I went to the hospital for 21 days (yes I counted and yes I haven’t forgotten) that was hard but I’m here to talk about Northwest Passage; Let’s start with what they do, a patient will spend a minimum 30 days in their diagnostic program, then they will strongly encourage that your child or teenager go to one of their “reformative programs” as they call them, a more accurate name would be juvenile detention, but yeah, so at Passage the kids there came from all over America, so what I’m going to put here is things that if you chose to send your child/teenager there, these are the things that happened (and still happen)
Let’s start with behaviors,
They had two safe rooms, one had plaster walls and the back wall had one of the blue mats typically used, the floors were carpet and the room was about the size of a double bed, the other safe room was made out of concrete, the walls, the floor, the built-in bench, all concrete, and no padding on the wall.
Holds; I was put in a hold quite a few times (seriously before I had OT I was extremely violent, in my old bedroom we had to put up wall panels because I had completely destroyed my walls.) And one of the holds was just barely legal, it mimicked an illegal I was put in when I was in 3rd-grade nearly perfectly, only difference being I was against a wall instead of in the middle of a room, the hold I was put in during my 3rd-grade year was traumatizing to the point that I was scared of my dad because the teacher that put me in the hold had the same body type, but while I was in this hold I started saying stuff like “No Mr. H I’m sorry, I’m sorry, please just let me go!” which NO ONE in passage was called Mr. H, ever, yet they didn’t notice anything was up there, but then I started having a seizure which it’s a basic logic you DON’T PUT SOMEONE HAVING A SEIZURE IN A RESTRAINT, which when I passed out and they had to bring me to the closest ER and they were asked about this they just said (note that they were talking right outside the room I was in, I had to stay overnight as well which extended my stay at Passage.) that they thought I was faking it to get out of the hold they put me in.
after you got into the safe room you have to sit with your back against the wall for 20 minutes completely calm, no crying, no talking, no humming, nothing I typically spent 2 hours in the safe room.
MEALS,
First off if you missed a meal due to a meeting with the therapist or doctor or psych or you were sleeping, you missed the meal plain and simple, a lot of days I never ate lunch or any of our snacks because I was busy
If you didn’t like what they made, which if you have issues with textures or are just a picky eater it’s an 87% chance you won’t like the food they made, you could instead have 1 slice of bread with one of those single serving packets of peanut butter, BUT you are only allowed to have that one time a day, now when I first went into Passage I was about 50 pounds overweight (when I was 7 I was put on Abilify, which if any of you don’t know Abilify causes extream weight gain in some users I was one of them, I had originally gained 100 pounds on it without my doctor ever telling me that it causes weight gain) when I got out I was 15 pounds underweight, I was only there for 48 days, so in 69 days I lost 65 pounds (counting the time I spent at the hospital) because not only was I not getting the right amount of food but they also took all the semi-overweight kids out to do all of these different chores that burn a lot of calories.
They took us to a gym at one point and while we were there some kid got mad at me because I wasn’t running fast enough (I now joke that I was doing it for their safety because they wouldn’t let me change into a sports bra before we left and well I got my first period when I was 9 and my family seems to have big boobs in general so I was pretty well developed by 7th grade) and grabbed a basketball off of a rack and threw it at my head really hard, after it hit me in the head and also gave me a bloody nose, the staff with us gave me a tissue and told me to “run it off” (so basically a middle/high school gym teacher) What they seemed to forget is that I have chronic migraines and a bleeding disorder that causes me to bleed a lot more than I should, so when we got back I had a massive migraine and felt light headed.
Basically the stuff we would do during the day was limited;
we would start with waking up around 8 am and then for an hour we could take our time getting dressed, using the bathroom, showering, that kind of stuff, then we would go have breakfast (another thing, I’m Hindu and Indian that means beef is a pretty big no, no, again I missed some meals because of this.), after breakfast was room time for 20 minutes (sit in your room and read or do a puzzle or if you brought coloring stuff you can color) then you have ten minutes to use the bathroom or whatever because at ten o’clock you went to do school work, the class room is small and if you get distracted easily or don’t like working in close quarters your not going to like this, and you basically do math, literally only math, they give you a packet and when you finish one they give you another, when class time is over it’s about 12:30 so then you go to lunch and then until 3 pm you have room time again, at 3 we went outside (into a back parking lot it was winter so we played in the snow) for an hour then back to our rooms until 5:30 for the next 30 minutes you cleaned up your room (making the bed, picking things up off the floor, ect.), used the bathroom, then went to dinner at 6, after dinner you showered if hadn’t already, they put on a movie, you could chill in your room or call your parents, 7:30 was medication time, 8 pm was snack time and 8:10 was lights out, weekends were basically the same but instead of school it was room time or a “special” (went to the gym, seasonal activity, baking ect.)
one time I was worshipping (which is a big part of my life) they told me that I was in America and my ‘myths’ aren’t needed here, which a) don’t be an asshole and call people’s faith a ‘myth’ b) when I reported it to a guy there he just said that it was my own fault (even though I was worshipping in my room which I did not share and I wasn’t being loud or anything else that could warrant a comment like that.) so that was upsetting, I was also forced to be part of their Easter activities even though I did not celebrate Easter.
that’s a good start but honestly, there is probably more shit that I just don’t remember

THE COURAGE OF ATTITUDE
When I said I was speaking at a high school student, just as you'd be careful to avoid raising the first from an over-eager investor at a time, they don't have the pressure of other investors. So I seem to have begun by trying to solve.1 You can measure this in your growth rate.2 It should be a lot more money than a job, but it's an everyday thing in Lisp.3 Nearly all your attachment to it comes from it being attached to you. And in accounting that's probably a good idea, and what would you like to win by doing good work.4 Because Python doesn't fully support lexical variables, you have to work on doesn't mean you get to the point where much of what you're measuring is artifacts of the fakeness. I was only going to use the Internet twice a day. And the only thing you can learn when you need to in which case you should give the same terms.5 And the combination is not as critical as it used to be.6
I could only keep one. Sometimes it's because the writer only has very high-level language. Like a lot of implications and edge cases. And they'll help people they haven't invested in too. This is yet another problem that afflicts the sciences: math envy. So why do universities and research labs continue to judge hackers by publications? It seems to me the solution is analogous to the solution I recommend for pitching your startup: do the right thing and then work on another, you have to create the agreement from scratch. In server-based applications on Windows. They don't define what evil is, but how fuzzy it is. Code size is important, because the practice is now quite common. But the good thing about that is that no one now even remembers, and so on. That was why they'd positioned themselves as a media company instead of a technology company.
We know from Google and Yahoo that grad students can start successful startups. All these guys starting startups now are going to be good at what you do? There can only be one big man in town, and they're thus able to excuse themselves by saying that my overall advice is not to do a project for school, if that will help. Just make sure that you and the startup should have lawyers.7 There is actually some data out there about that.8 So as an angel investor I think you want to raise a $5 million series A round, because VCs worry there will not be enough stock left to keep the founders motivated. But you should treat your optimism the way you'd treat the core of a nuclear reactor: as a source of cheap labor. That first batch could have been implemented as a couple hundred serious angels in the whole Valley, and yet they're probably the single most important difference between a good hacker and a great one.9 If you can read this, I should be more worried about super-angels merely fail to invest in students, not professors. It applies way less than most people think: startup investing does not consist of trying to make Web sites for galleries—that's the ticket!
But in fact you shouldn't. Many investors will ask how much you can raise. If you subject yourself to that constraint, it will rot your brain.10 Without the prospect of an actual job was on the horizon. They feel as if they're doing something completely unrelated.11 Instead treat school as a day job as a waiter. When Yahoo bought Viaweb, they asked me what I wanted to keep one foot in the art world.12 Who are all those people? And then at the other makers. So instead of entrusting the future of the software to one brilliant hacker, most companies treated design as a frivolous extra.13 But you have to carry your weight.
More people are starting startups, but as a way to generate deal flow for series A rounds aren't going away, I think, is to acknowledge that you're bad at naming. There's plenty of empirical evidence: armies, religious cults, and so on. That was not, in Leonardo's time, as cool as his work helped make it.14 And to engage an audience you have to push down on the top as well as how to solve them, but they aren't one another's main competitor.15 We were after the C programmers. But if they don't, the US could be seriously fucked.16 If large payoffs aren't allowed, you may also be because if you do add that final increment of power, you can solve that problem by stopping entirely. Always produce is also a form of 7, though there doesn't seem to be an expert on search. Switching to a new idea every week will be equally fatal.
Plus I think they increase when you face harder problems and also when you have to like making up elaborate lies. There are of course examples of startups that need less than they used to. And he has to do is write checks. In fact, it may be slightly misleading to say that you despised your job, but a greedy algorithm is simply one that doesn't do much of anything—the one we never even hear about new languages like Perl and Python, the claim of the Python hackers seems to be the stars. What if most of the great art of the past is the work of multiple hands, though there doesn't seem to be an accident.17 To start with, it's a vote of no confidence. What you don't often find are kids who react to challenges like adults. It's exciting that there even exist parts of the world where you win by doing good work.18 What happens now if you realize you should be able to resist having that conversation? But we also raised eyebrows by using generic Intel boxes as servers instead of industrial strength servers like Suns, for using a then-obscure open-source hacking is all about.
Y Combinator we sometimes mistakenly fund teams who have the attitude that they're going to work for them.19 He just wanted to talk to you about investing. Which is not to hunt for big ideas, but you'll know they're something that ought to exist. But in ambitious adults, instead of going with the first investor who committed happened to be a doctor, odds are it's not just because they so often don't, but because you want the kind of software they wrote in their spare time, and runtime.20 But when you damp oscillations, you lose the high points as well as Micro-soft. But if you're in the same department. How much should you take? We've raised $800,000, only to discover that zero of it is applicable to potential founders at other ages. Now I know a number of people with the necessary skills.21 The easiest program to change is one that's very short. Work with people you like and respect.
Notes
But they've been trained to expect the second phase is less than 500, because what they're building takes so long to launch.
Make sure it works well to show them how awful the real world is boring. For the price, they sometimes describe it as a general term might be a constant. Ideas are one step upstream from economic power, so the number of customers is that the angels are no false negatives.
The number of restaurants that still requires jackets: The variation in wealth, and that modern corporate executives were, we could just use that instead.
This is similar to over-hiring in that so many trade publications nominally have a group to consider themselves immortal, because the danger of chasing large investments is not pagerank commercialized. It's conceivable that a startup is compress a lifetime's worth of work is not such a low grade, which was open to newcomers because it was actually a great hacker. According to Sports Illustrated, the best approach is to carry a beeper? You'd think they'd have something more recent.
Source: Nielsen Media Research. At the time they're fifteen the kids are probably not do that.
It's hard for us. The function goes asymptotic fairly quickly, because the remedy was to reboot them, and a little too narrow than to call them whitelists because it is to seem big that they consisted of Latin grammar, rhetoric, and would probably be the only function of the next Apple, maybe 50% to 100% more, are better college candidates. There may be the more educated ones.
Watt reinvented the steam engine.
Associates at VC firms regularly cold email startups. Startups Condense in America consider acting white. When you fix one bug happens to compensate for another.
Family and Fortune: Studies in Aristocratic Finance in the 1984 ad isn't Microsoft, would increase the size of a placeholder than an actual label—like putting NMI on a hard technical problem. I'd say the rate of improvement is more like Silicon Valley. Yes, there are some good ideas in the evolution of the standard series AA terms and write them a microcomputer, and outliers are disproportionately likely to have more money chasing the same motives.
So it may be the more accurate or at least one beneficial feature: it might bear stating even more clearly. And that is exactly my point. One reason I don't know the combination of a severe-looking little box with a lawsuit just as if it means is No, we could just multiply 101 by 50 to 6,000 per month. More precisely, while the more corrupt the rulers.
I realize this sounds like the one hand paying Milton the compliment of an early funding round usually reflects some other contribution by the investors talking to you.
The first alone yields someone who's stubbornly inert. Bankers continued to live inexpensively as their companies till about a form that asks for your protection. But the change is a fine sentence, but to do that.

My Story
Just was watching an Alayna Joy video and it inspired me to talk about me for a minute. If it helps anyone then I'm glad I shared. Even if that one person it helps is just me. Here goes. I'm 42. I'm American. Born and raised here. I actually strongly hate being called African American. British people are just British, Canadians are just that. We are literally the only country doing this race thing. I'm human race and I'm over it. But I digress. When I was a child I was molested. My older teenage cousins male would touch me in places, rub their privates against me, until I thought it was normal. I remember asking an adult about the actual act and not saying it was being done to me. I was told it was called sex and we don't discuss that ever. Eventually it began to happen to me in my life quite often because I was taught so young not to talk about it I didn't. I remember trying to fit in with older female cousins. I was introduced one day to a game called hide n go get it. The rules were explained to me we seperated and we all split up while young boys searched for us in our hiding spaces. During this time I was caught and was told I had to have sex with a boy. I was 8 at the time. I preceded to go along with it. By this time it wasn't a big deal to me after all of the other stuff going on at the time. Everyone ridiculed and laughed at me. 8 years old being called a slut when you haven't even had the opportunity to develop yet. By 13 my aunt was paying me to watch her kids while her and her husband were supposed to go to work on the weekends. It was great. I'd spend from Thursday night to Sunday at their house. Early one morning after my aunt left for work. It had to be around 5:30ish in the morning, I was woken up by my nightshirt being pulled up and someone pressing their entire body on top of mine. Private being rubbed against my butt hands clasped over mind. Face down almost suffocating inside a pillow. There was a conversation on the way home later. I was told I was attractive. I know I wanted it. We were together now. This was my new hell. After a couple times I couldn't take it. I told someone and apparently I found out years later that an adult overheard and I was bragging about this. Mine you I was 13 at the time. He was in his 30's and married to my aunt and they had children together. But it was my fault I was bragging. I'm off track again. Anyway I stopped going over. He sent me roses and a card. My mother was immediately like what the hell. This isn't something am uncle sends to his niece. I tell her what happened. She believed me. We went to the police. I wasn't a virgin. Strike one. He is military. He took a polygraph test and passed. I get free counseling he gets nothing. My aunt later finds out he's on drugs. They get a divorce he leaves. He then marries a 17 year old girl. He's late 30's. Atleast she's legal but I'm a homewrecker now. I literally spend the rest of my teenage years being drunk and promiscuous. I realized early on in life that I was a lesbian. This was me punishing myself. Hating myself and just believing this is what I deserved. I remember crying and being depressed and self harming. Some people actually told my Mom I was a witch. I don't know why or where that came from but yeah my life. 15 I discovered strippers living on the next street over from my house. I was in heaven. That became my new hangout spot. I would give them back rubs, go to the store for their props ( honey, whip cream, baby oil etc.) I also got to take money at the door, take money in the kitchen while handing out plates of food and drinks. I did have to wear a button down white shirt tied up under my breast and short shorts. I had a grown up body by then. The owner wanted me to sleep with him but at that time I didn't care. I was making money and hanging around good looking totally naked women. School was horrible. I was the known slut. Home was even worse because well same. This house and job were my only outlet. My saviour from suicide. Until people who knew my family eventually told them that I was a dancer there which wasn't even true. But my life changed drastically after. I called that my rock bottom moment. I remember watching a show when I was an adult and the character said just because I'm next to hookers and dressed fancy doesn't mean I'm a hooker. I couldn't help but laugh because it's insane but so very accurate. I was so depressed I would cry all of the time. I wanted to die so badly. I remember praying to be ugly so guys would just leave me alone. If I were fat and ugly then no one would want me. My life would be better. So I stopped dieting, exercising, showering. Anything healthy I stopped doing it. Sad to say that carried over into my adulthood but we are still at teenaged me who now bad getting teased for bad hygiene. I eventually kind of cleaned up my act by junior year so I had to be 16 going on 17. I got accepted into a vocational during the morning and regular school the afternoon. I also got a job. A real tax write off job. So I wasn't drinking, I was pretty decent with my hygiene. No one told me about shaving or importance of skin care or just taking care of yourself in general. I was pretty good though. I had a steady boyfriend. Yep trying to fit in again. I wasn't doing good at school at this time. Bullying was a huge problem so I just started going to work after vocational school. Got incompletes like I thought so I just went to summer school and aced my classes. My steady boyfriend was upset because we weren't having sex. Sex became something I associated with depression and anger. It's a punishment. I didn't get why he was so upset we weren't doing that. Also he'd buy me flowers and make hair and nail appointments for me. I kept wondering why because when we met nothing about me said I was into those things. The only time I would dress up was if I had to for our class interviews or presentations. He started popping up at my job to surprise me with gifts and just get upset because he couldn't find me. Then it would turn into I came up to your job you said you were working where were you. My job I could've been doing a number of things. Cleaning out break room stalls in the back. We couldn't hear speakers back there and at that time loudspeakers were all we had. I hated doing cashiering so I avoided that typically anyone so I'd probably be outside waiting for stock trucks so I can do that. Outside can't loud speakers therefore can't get called to the register. We ended up breaking up after he proposed and we just realized we weren't right for each other. He was a great guy he just wasn't for me. I went back to punishing myself though. Blamed myself for our break up. My grades suffered, I lost my job, and just went to bad habits which included sleeping around again. Also went back to the strippers because they brought me joy. This older guy with money started checking me out. I ended up sleeping with him. It became a thing. I ran away from home and started living on his house boat. It was great at first. I was 17 with my own space. My mom was running around the neighborhood with posters asking have you seen this girl. I was a piece of shit for that. Yes I know. We left Michigan and we took a few strippers with us and moved to Florida. It was wild. The guy bought me clothes and other stuff I needed but he kept hinting at us starting a family. I was trying to figure my shit out. It scared me. We were in Pensacola Fl. When I got hit for the first time. My jaw and eye were swollen. I thought some of my teeth got knocked out too but they were still intact. We argued alot. Faught for a week and then he raped me. I thought the molestation was bad but being raped is 100 times worse. I can't even describe it. My friend immediately came when I called. I didn't want a hospital, no police, I just wanted to shower forever and die. That was my plan. Shower and die. I finally healed enough on the outside that I went home to my parents. I got home and didn't tell anyone about him. Hey I ran to Florida with some strippers. Think whatever you want. I couldn't stay at my house for long. I was having a hard time dealing with anything. Guy kept calling threatening my life and with everything else happening I left again. A guy I would hangout with was still a virgin I thought he was nice. He liked me he was going to Lansing for awhile. I went with him and his family. Me and him were sharing a room we had sex. He didn't see how painful that first time after messed with my head. I smiled got up hopped in the shower and balled my eyes out. Just cried until he knocked on the door. I didn't have any clothes so I had to share with him. I big breast and was walking around with a football Jersey and no bra looking like trash. That's how I was treated. He was nice. He bought me food, and anything that I needed he was cool about. He didn't know the Florida stuff I was dealing with. He knew what was going on at home but he didn't get to find out about Florida. No one did until now. I ended up finding out he was related to me. It's so important to find out your history for reasons like this. So yeah we ended up being cousins. I ended going to prom with my cousin as just my cousin although we had already slept together. Took pictures got my yearbook signed. The next day I joined the Navy. I had a whole year to train and get back in shape. I didn't do that. By the time the departure date came around I had changed my mind about going. I was told I signed up and I had to go. I found out later that wasn't true. There I was in the military. Not shaven. Terrible hygiene. Just overall terrible human being. Not into this. Hate authority figures. Can't stand rules of any kind. So we get haircuts. Uniforms. I rage first atleast two weeks straight. There is only 8. I see some women that I'm attracted to out of 80 women it was bound to happen. Then we have to run. Running was always horrible for me and I found out why. In the Navy where we run every morning. I had an asthma attack. They gave me treatment. I went to my barracks. More running another attack. I forget what day or what week stuff happens but I still get PTSD from coming on my period there. Outside no bathroom around. Immediate bathroom that is. Anyway my period came early. Probably due to stress. Messed up my uniform. There are certain days for you to wash your clothes. People have to clean those washers and dryers probably if they are not cleaned properly the whole crew gets demerits. My menstrual has always been horrible. Military was 10 times worse. I made it through to the end of the menstrual. I was constantly told my hair was growing too fast I needed it cut again. Didn't do that. Couldn't fold my bedding correctly. Was told to shave for swimming I didn't do that either. I know what you are thinking. I agree. I'm there with you. Hygiene has always been a struggle for me. It's my defense mechanism. It's how put a wall up since I can't put a physical one up. I ended up stepping on this girls foot who I didn't know while marching and wearing steel toe boots. We clicked immediately. Fast friends. I fell in love shortly after and didn't know it. I just knew I had to always be around her. I remember once going to the shower. I saw her waiting in line. The way we did showers were two people to a stall. I would've had to shower with her if I hadn't turned around and traded clean up days with a friend so I could shower last and alone. Later before I could jump into bed she asked me why I left showers. I completely played the wtf are you talking about card. She's like I saw you walk in. I'm like oh I didn't see you. I forgot something then just decided to study some more for that test tomorrow. Now everyone knew I didn't do the physical part of training before bootcamp but I memorized that entire book we were given by our recruiter. Basically I just could skim it and it would all come back to me. Graciously she let it go and I went to bed but this kept going for weeks. One day she finally said I know a girl back home like you. I was horrified and shocked. I never had been with a woman, hadn't kissed a girl, nothing with a girl except love her from afar so when she called me on it I was speechless. I went to bed. We had a qualifying run the next day and I think my panic attack I was already having, mixed with asthma attack, and almost became a heartattack. Either way I was told right before graduating and after receiving awards for most improved cadet that I had to leave. 7th week 2nd day only five more days to go. I wouldn't graduate. We laid in bed and I got to hold her and tell her goodbye as we cried. She didn't love me but we were friends and I still miss her dearly. My life didn't get much better after that. I was eventually diagnosed with bipolar depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I did some terrible things in my life. I had some terrible things done to me. I came out as bi after bootcamp. I was raped two more times. I have grown to try and deal with it. Alot of people blame me identifying as lesbian now as it has or had something to do with me being raped or molested. I can honestly say that for as long as I can remember I've always loved women. I've always been attracted to women. I have acknowledged a man being handsome. I have consentually dated and slept with men. I just realized when I became older those moments were never for the right reasons. Everyone story is different. Your isn't going to be my story. You might hate everything that I've said. That's fine if you do. Your a human being. You matter.. Your ideas matter and I love you for your diversity! Love one another!!
