AiO Thought of the Week
Age is truly just a foreign concept in Odyssey and there are no true answers but here are my headcannons:
Katrina is older than Eugene from somewhere to a few months upto a year and a half.
Eugene was 17-18 when he was hired at Whit’s End but is widely assumed to be older because of his voice and academic level but he 100% looked his age.
The writers said on the official pod Jay's age is a dependent variable. So I think when Jay is hanging out with Zoey, Buddy, or any of the other middle schoolers he is 13/14. With the rare exception, Jay is otherwise 17 however his appearance is still skued toward the 13/14.(this might be because of his height but that's a different headcannon) These numbers only apply to album 58 and beyond before that he is younger and is more consistent in age.
Jason is in his 40s.
Connie still hasn't quite reached her 30s but is almost there. I know she's still earning her degree but if Eugene is any indication 10yrs is not an unreasonable amount of time for a degree from CCCC. Plus I think she's swapped majors like 3 times.
Eugene and Katrina are very early 30s
Whit despite being born in 1925/26 is an ageless being of perpetual Eldersness and is therefore older than anyone in a given room and yet, still possess the ability to out-manuver the authorities both physically and mentally
Jack and Wilson are also ageless beings but not on Whit's level.
Tom lived just out of town and so aged normally, I guess. I have no evidence but I feel like he was born in 1931.
Bernard despite being one of the original "old men that make up Connie’s friend group" is good decade or so younger than Tom and Whit, still way older than Connie though.

Eugene [leaving a movie theatre]: I'm merely stating that given that the film was based on a Jules Verne novel, they could pay at least cursory attention to scientific plausibility.
Katrina: I believe it's meant for children, Eugene.
Eugene: Precisely. You wouldn't want them to go through life with a distorted understanding of physics.

The Link between Hurricane Katrina and Anti-LGBTQ Rhetoric | Dame Magazine
for the last 17 years, I have kept a list. It is a list of pastors and preachers and spokespeople for religious organizations who blamed Hurricane Katrina on the “sin” in New Orleans. Those that said the city deserved it. Purveyors of the notion that the hurricane was God’s judgment on the city, that the dead had it coming, that America had it coming, that, especially, the LGBTQIA+ community was and is such a moral abomination that God smote the city to punish it for supporting them. That Southern Decadence, one of the largest celebrations of the gay community in the Crescent City, that opened my eyes to how much bigger and brighter and more beautiful the world could be outside of my small Missouri hometown, was why the city had to be destroyed. The idea that my gay, bisexual, and transgender friends, all of whom were scattered and hurting in the aftermath, were why New Orleans was drowned by their God.
Pat Robertson. Franklin Graham. John Hagee. Rick Joyner. Bill Shanks. Jennifer Giroux. Gerhard Wagner. John McTernan. Hal Lindsey. Charles Colson. Michael Marcavage. Rick Scarborough. Fred Phelps. A droplet of names out of a sea of hate. Anti-LGBTQIA+ violence has always been a bedrock of Christian nationalists, and that the renewed fervor of it, combined with the ignoring of natural disasters and pandemics—or blaming them on LGBTQIA+ communities, as is happening with monkeypox—is not new, it is what the Christian right in this country does. And as much as we like to think things have changed, that list? Those people? They are still at it.
Fourteen days after the levees broke, Pat Robertson got on The 700 Club and blamed both terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina on abortion, while discussing Supreme Court nominee John Roberts

The Crown Jewel Edition: Queen Consort Ana
From State affairs to private soirées; this is an inside look into Queen Ana's favorite pieces within the Lunarian Royal Collection.
The Fleur-de-lys Tiara (Above)
This particular piece was featured at many a State Banquet and in several of Her Majesty's official portraits. Originally crafted in Pierreland by Maison de Lumeniere, the tiara was commissioned by Crown Prince Jean Charles Valois in 1874 to commemorate diplomatic relations with Lunaria. It had been worn by Queen Consort Katrina and her daughters before falling out of favor in the early 1900s, when kokoshniks became the trend for the Royal Family. Queen Ana first brought it out of obscurity in the 1970s while attending a State Banquet in Rivenia as a part of her Marriage Tour.
Tumblr media
The Ely Meander Tiara
Gifted to Queen Clarisse in the late 1950s by the 10th Duke of Ely, this tiara was personal gift to Ana when her engagement to then-Crown Prince Vincent was announced. She most notably wore the piece during both her husband's Silver and Golden Jubilees. Her Majesty gifted the tiara to her only daughter – and now the Queen of Windsor – Ashli, who wears it frequently for official portraits.
Tumblr media
Queen Ana's Engagement Ring
Designed personally by then-Crown Prince Vincent using a large, 12-carat aquamarine surrounded by thirty-six diamonds on a split-shank design, Queen Ana's engagement ring was a stunning piece that many ladies in Lunaria were jealous of. The ring was returned to the Royal Vault upon her death twenty years ago, where it will remain alongside other Royal engagement rings.
Tumblr media
The Brindleton Sapphire Kokoshnik Tiara
This piece was bought during a private auction of the Brindleton Empire's Royal tiaras. The auction was rumored to have occurred because of Emperor Alaric's overspending of the National Treasury. Although the rumors were never confirmed, several high profile pieces from the Imperial Family's collection were sold to other families around the world, shaming Emperor Alaric, whom also sold several of his wife, Empress Amira's, personal jewelry inherited from her family. The purchase of the kokoshnik and other pieces apparently soured his relationship with King Vincent and Queen Ana in the coming years.
Adding insult to injury, Her Majesty wore the kokoshnik to a banquet celebrating Brindleton's surrender to the combined military forces of Windsor and Lunaria during Windsor's War for Independence. The Brindleton Empire has remained a military and political rival of Lunaria ever since.
Tumblr media
The Belvedere Palm-Heart Tiara
This piece was a gift to Queen Consort Lilith–then the Duchess of Belvedere–in 1793 as a wedding gift from the province her husband ruled over. It features nine emeralds sourced from the area and was designed to look like the palm-heart flowers native to the land.
Tumblr media
The Honeysuckle Loop Tiara
A diamond and platinum piece which originally belonged to the Brindleton Imperial Family like the Sapphire Kokoshnik listed above. Her Majesty often wore the tiara for foreign formal events.
Tumblr media
Queen Katrina's Pearl Wedding Earrings
Originally worn by Queen Consort Katrina in 1841 on her wedding to then-Crown Prince Edward (soon-to-be known as the Mad King Edward IV), these earrings were originally part of a lovely parure. The necklace, bracelet, and tiara were unfortunately lost in a fire at Windenburg Palace in the early 1920s.
Tumblr media
Queen Ana's Emerald Laurel Earrings
These earrings were bought by the Queen before she married into the Royal Family. They were designed by court jeweler Simtier from their Mythic collection and were purchased privately by Her Majesty for §30,000. They remain within the Quinn family's private collection and are being kept by King Arden currently.
Tumblr media
Queen Ana's Birthday Earrings
A gift to the Queen Consort from her three children, these earrings were her most beloved pieces of jewelry. The earrings are another Simtier piece, personally designed for her, and were passed down to her eldest son's wife after her death.
The earrings were most recently worn by Princess Annaliese, who wore them for her eighteenth birthday celebration.
Tumblr media
The Piraeus Pearl Set
This pearl necklace and earrings set are a Harold family heirloom. Upon her father's death she was able to inherit a few key pieces after his Earldom was dissolved back into the Crown. Her Majesty only wore the set for intimate private events.
Tumblr media
Bordeauxian Pearl Wedding Necklace
This necklace is one of the oldest pieces within the Royal Collection, dating back almost six hundred years, and is a wedding gift from King Francois of Bordeaux to Queen Consort Marylene.
Tumblr media
The Celestri Diamond Alliance Necklace
This necklace, which consists of millions of simoleons worth of Celestri Diamonds, was once one of the Celestre Imperial Family's prized jewelry pieces.
The necklace was given over as a part of peace negotiations twenty years after Lunaria split from the Empire of Celestre. The Emperor at the time, Nikolas II, was the half-brother of the first King of Lunaria, Rhysander I, and regretted the War of Secession that occurred between the two nations after a personal dispute between the two.
Queen Ana wore the necklace most famously during the funeral of her in-laws, the former King Richter and Queen Clarisse, but was often depicted wearing it during official portraits. The necklace has also been continuously worn during official visits to Celestre.

Katrina Shanks outfit inspo
Since my blog is basically a hypothetical modern reboot of AIO I decided to come up with a design for Katrina
Here's the sketch:

And here's the stock photos (images royalty free/belongs to respective owners)

I want her to look rich kid/Ivy League compared to her love interest. Her glasses are red to add a pop of color and for a cute quirk she has iris-less face just like Eugene did back in the 90s!
Full-color coming soon!

FAVORITE KATRINA HEADCANONS..... GO!
Uh...
I’ve always pictured her as a brunette, not a blonde.
And that if she were going to have a social media account, it would turn into her going “why do you people want to eat grass & cattails?” & Eugene is having an absolute come apart because “it’s the tide pods all over again.”
I️ think she smells like vanilla, the way old books smell.
I️ think she’s the little spoon when she & Eugene snuggle.
She’s a tea person, not a coffee person. & her favorite is earl grey with lavender & lemon.

AiO Thought of the Week
You know I think if I was listening to the episodes as they came out I think I would have been routing against Eugene and Katrina getting together. Especially if I was a kid. Like knowing how it’s turned out I love them but without that Eugene honestly would feel like too much drama. Maybe I would have even routed for Brandon and Katrina to get together.

Conversation
Eugene: So, did you teach anything today?
Katrina: Well, I tried, but it seems none of the kids are interested in learning how to diagram sentences. I really don't get it. I mean, am I the only one who thinks diagramming sentences is fun?

Currently on Part 10 of Adventures in Odyssey’s Green Ring Conspiracy, and I’m REALLY relating to Katrina right now. I’m all about diving deep into things and getting hard facts myself, so I think she’s the character I’m relating to the most at the moment. Meanwhile, Wooton and Penny are precious, and I want them to grow up strong and healthy. 💙💜
Not only that, but Jason Whittaker’s prayer that truth would win out over deception was interesting. Everything about the Green Ring Conspiracy sounds very complex, and I know I’ll need to listen to it again in order to grab anything I’ve missed, but his hopes for truth in the midst of deception was something I found very relatable. After listening to the Blackgaard Chronicles, and Novacom, it sounds like he’s come a long way since his ‘plan now, pray later’ phase from Darkness Before Dawn. Look at him go 😭
Also, they’ve officially name-dropped Mr. Grote. Oh snap, here we go…

Salvation, Part 2
(unknown how many parts there will be. At least five! Here is the 2nd part! All mistakes owned by me, all characters owned by Focus on the Family)
It’s been three years since Richard Maxwell was last in the town of Odyssey. But this visit is a necessity. Richard has not seen John Avery Whittaker in a very long time. It is time to remedy that.
Richard hadn’t seen Whit’s End since that fateful day. It looked no different. However, this time it was open to the public and kids were everywhere. It brought a smile to Richard’s face. After everything that had happened with Dr. Blackgaard, the town needed hope. And Whit’s End brought that to everyone that graced its walls, child and adult alike.
Sure, the building had gotten a paint job, but its true form had nary changed. The steps that Richard took up to the front door still had that very slight lean, almost unnoticeable from the street. The double doors a bright white against the green grass and light yellow of the outer walls of Whit’s End. A flood of memories from the last time he had been up the same steps hit him. Connie – Eugene – Jason – Jack – computer programs – the Imagination Station. He wasn’t sure he could hold on.
The left door opened in a rush and a group of kids came chattering out of the shop, down the steps, and to the sidewalk. Richard was pulled from his memories, momentarily stunned. The last kid out the door slowed down, noting the stranger. “Oh, sorry, mister. Excuse us.” She was kind enough to hold open the door, letting Richard thank her as he finally entered Whit’s End.
The bell above the door jingled as it shut closed behind him. About a fourth of the booths and tables were sparingly filled, due to school still in session and it barely being 12:30pm. But the busyness of Whit’s End was not a priority in Richard’s agenda for having visited. In fact –
“RICHARD!!”
He hadn’t heard that high-pitched scream since the hospital. And no one ever really forgot the scream of one Constance “Connie” Kendall. But what he did forget was her tendency to rather violently bear hug everyone within a five mile radiance – or really all of the town of Odyssey.
Richard was momentarily stunned when Connie threw her arms around him. She had surprisingly gained two inches on his five foot two inches stature – but then again, he also noted she was wearing platform shoes as she pulled out of the hug.
“Hi, Connie.”
She held him at arms-length, eyes sparkling. “It is SO good to see you! Oh – WHIT. You haven’t seen him in so long! Let me grab him.”
Before Richard could get a word in edge wise, Connie was running behind the counter and disappearing into the kitchen. Richard’s body mentally remembered the electrical stun Blackgaard had used to incapacitate him and he felt weak. He was gonna need to sit down.
Whit’s End largely hadn’t changed over the years – of course, a few differences here and there by Jack Allen, Eugene Meltsner, Jason Whittaker, and John Whittaker himself. Granted, the only handful of times Richard had been in the building was to find information out about Applesauce (he hadn’t touched the real stuff, let alone actual apples, in years), manipulate Lucy, ask for forgiveness, and then get caught by Blackgaard and – sentenced to death.
Richard shivered, the memories far too vivid in his mind. He made his way to the counter and sat in an unoccupied stool, his mind seemingly elsewhere. But his ears didn’t miss the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs, a familiar voice rambling on about Jonah and the Whale.
“Mr. Whittaker has had the Jonah and the Whale book in the library since I was hired. The young ones enjoy it. I believe it would be an excellent resource for your Sunday school lesson this coming week, Katrina.”
Eugene Meltsner and Katrina Shanks (presumably, as Richard had yet to meet her) stepped into the main part of Whit’s End. Eugene had an animated face (like always, in Richard’s opinion) as he spoke. “If you need any assistance preparing for the lesson, I would be happy to offer my expertise.”
Katrina giggled. “Expertise, Eugene?”
He looked momentarily confused. “Well, as I am a scholar and focus on the words of the Bible –“
She patted his arm and continued to walk towards the exit. “I’m kidding, Eugene. I will certainly call you if I need your assistance.”
Eugene followed behind her, a perplexed look on his face. “I –“ He stopped short just a few feet from where Richard stood. It took him a second, but eventually Eugene made some sort of greeting to the acquaintance. “Oh.”
Richard gave a small smile. “Hello, Eugene.”
Katrina glanced behind her, seeing Eugene giving the man sitting on a stool a surprised look. “Eugene?”
The white shirt and black vested man blinked and returned focus to Katrina. “I apologize. May we discuss this further at another time?”
Katrina nodded. “Okay, Eugene. I have to go see my father. Call me, and I will see you tomorrow afternoon.” Eugene barely said good-bye before Katrina had exited Whit’s End.
“Mr. Maxwell, it has been some time since you were last in town.” Eugene moved to man the counter from the other side, facing Richard.
Richard shrugged. “Just over three years. I had – business. Elsewhere.”
Eugene was about to answer when Connie crashed through the door from the kitchen, her body – well – electric.
“Eugene! Richard –“
Richard held up a hand. “He knows, Connie.”
She seemed out of breath as she smiled. “Well, Whit is finishing something up in the freezer and will be out in just a second. I didn’t tell him who it was that wanted to see him. He is going to be so happy to see you Richard. When you left so unexpectedly after helping the town three years ago, we all didn’t know if we would see you again!”
Maybe it was just him, but Richard felt like he had let the town down by leaving. But he didn’t belong in Odyssey – he had known that for a very long time. At the time, he hadn’t wanted to overstay his welcome. Obviously he had misjudged. But the memories he was experiencing today would have replayed in his mind every day he stayed, and if he wasn’t already mentally unstable at times, he would have had a lot worse to deal with then just depression and unhealthy coping mechanisms.
“It is, however, a pleasure to see you once again, Richard.”
Richard gave Eugene a smile. “As it is to see you, Eugene. Connie.”
It was just then that the one and only John Avery Whittaker stepped from the kitchen, a towel drying his hands. “Now Connie, who –“ But he didn’t finish the sentence as he saw Richard Maxwell sitting at the counter before him. Whit smiled broadly. “Well, I’ll be. Richard.”
Out of instinct, Richard stood up and took a step to the side away from the stool. Was he nervous? Why the hell would he be nervous?! He had great admiration for John Whittaker. The man had saved his life!
“Mr. Whittaker. I know it’s been a while – um, well, years now. But – I just wanted to say – say hi.” Oh yeah, he was nervous. Richard wanted to crawl into bed.
Whit came around the counter, discarding the towel onto a table top nearby. He took Richard’s hands in his and squeezed. Whit was gentle and smiling and looked so – so welcoming. “I’ve been praying for you to come back to Odyssey. Everyone has told me everything that happened while I was out of town. You are owed a great amount of thanks. But why have you returned only now?”
Richard didn’t really want to talk about everything on his mind with Eugene and Connie around. And before he could answer, the phone in his pocket buzzed, telling him he had another engagement to attend to. Time had passed so fast, and only now he had greeted Mr. Whittaker.
“I have so much to discuss with you, Mr. Whittaker. It has been far, far too long. But I apologize for the short stay, I have another engagement I am running late for across town. If it wouldn't inconvenience you, Whit, would you meet me at – at Trickle Lake tonight at 7pm?” Whit gave a short nod, letting Richard’s hands go free. “Of course, Richard. I will be there.”
Richard graciously took a step back from the counter and Whit, a small smile on his lips. “Thanks, Whit. I will see you then. It was nice to see you all, again.” He headed towards the door as Connie, Eugene, and Whit all chorused good-byes. “Good-bye, Richard.”
“SO GOOD TO SEE YOU, RICHARD!”
“See you, Richard.”
