Chasing Death Metal Dreams by Kaje Harper
goodreads
Carlos Medina has spent years of sweat, pain, effort, and money becoming the man he is. He writes original songs, plays lead guitar, and wears his death metal front-man persona like armor. With an excellent drummer and a talented bassist, his band, KnifeSwitch, has what it takes to succeed, if they can just catch a break. But it’s been a long road already, and there’s still a mountain left to climb. Carlos isn’t looking for anything more in his personal life than an occasional hook-up with a hot guy, preferably outside the less-than-gay-friendly metal scene.
Nate Goldstein has no intention of dating a musician. His twin brother fronts a band, and he knows band guys are all busy, broke, and obsessed with their music. But Carlos catches his artist’s eye. Nate is wary - he has a history of picking the wrong guys. Still, he might be willing to break some personal rules to find out what’s behind Carlos’s dark gaze and imaginative lyrics.
Getting together the first time is easy and fun. The second time is more complicated. And when music, ambition, and personalities clash, the guys will have to decide if they have a future worth fighting for.
Mod opinion: I haven't heard of this book before and it doesn't really sound like my type of book, so I probably won't check it out.

Review: Magic Burning (Carnival of Mysteries story) by Kaje Harper
Rating: 5🌈
Magic Burning is a perfect example of why I find these types of series so exciting. Kaje Harper’s story incorporates the central theme of a mysterious otherworldly carnival smoothly into her multi-layered narrative. The author weaves the Carnival of Mysteries seamlessly within the novel’s important topics of late coming out, parallel existing worlds, magical governments with its own…

4 & 12 für das book-ask ? 📖
4. If you DNF any books, what was the pettiest reason you put a book down this year?
I dnf-ed a couple of books and most were just 'I do not vibe' but The Manor House Governess was Bad. It's a contemporary novel, but the characters either talk like they are giving an introduction to film studies lecture, assure each other how being queer is OK, and every gender expression is OK (which it of course is. But it's said in the most soap-boxy author insert way. Like you cannot believe, how soap-boxy. Kaje Harper would say it's a bit much) or say shit like: "I do not find myself in the way of dancing enough to warrant a disliking to it. But what I can admit to is the unlikelihood of dancing again anytime soon, or ever again for that matter."
And then the MC declares that somebody else can't possibly be gay because he's wearing a suit, and that's when I gave up.
12. Did any book inspire you to create?
Short answer: no
Longer answer: When reading Guardian I remembered that I wrote show!verse fic once and that it was fun, but I also never finished the show (for reasons of back in Those Days it was harder to find C-Dramas with decent subtitles and when my source disappeared I was too busy to find a different one, and then I had forgotten too much) and now have only read the first (of three or four) books and I want to be a bit more familiar with the canon before I try my hand at fic.
Also, I've read three of the Allmen novels and am still daydreaming about that Blind Ermittelt/Allmen crossover but to be honest the chronology went like:
watching a rerun of one of the Allmen-movies
start daydreaming about the crossover
discover that the audiobooks are on Spotify and start listening
Thank you for asking

Don't Plan to Stay by Kaje Harper #LGBT #MM #Contemporary #Review
Erryn reviews Don’t Plan to Stay by Kaje Harper (Published December 9, 2017, 151 pages).
Why I read this book: I loved A Midnight Clear and Like the Taste of Summer.
At eighteen, Donnie Kagan’s plans for graduation, and maybe even college, were derailed by a beer, a stoplight, and a fatal crash. Now he’s twenty-four, out of prison, and bitterly determined to start over. But with the holidays…
