#Jack's trapped in the asylum too in a way

Seward's bone deep desire to run away from the asylum is not exactly surprising. There have been a lot of really good meta posts about how the return of Van Helsing into his life is the turning point where we see the caring and good side of him and how we can interpret his life as a student in Amersterdam as one of freedom and happiness. How he is part of the tragedy of manners, how strict social expectations allow Dracula to persist, and how they only exacerbate the unhappiness of the characters.
And I think the tragedy of Seward is that, really, he should not be the head of an asylum. It's a job that brings him no joy, and he's BAD at it. We can all recognize that if your first reaction to going back to work is "What if I just leave it all." That isn't a healthy work environment.
Now, in the modern day, the ability to pick and choose a work environment, even to leave one that is damaging your mental health, is a privilege. (IT SHOULDNT BE, but it is). And, although it is definitely reaching crisis levels in modern times, major changes in your career have almost always been difficult (unless you are really rich, or a particular brand of academic in the 17th-18th century, or both).
Seward can't just leave and become a surgeon. To give up the lofty position of "Head of an Asylum" would be unthinkable in the 1890s, especially for a reason like "Being here is basically turning me into the Joker." Like, how would Seward explain that in polite society? Would they accept that reasoning? Would they create salacious gossip if they didn't? Can Seward leave his position without losing a great amount of social capital?
Probably not.
His rise to head of an asylum, as many have pointed out, was meteoric, to say the least. It has afforded him status and respect and also left him deeply, deeply fucked up. And he can't leave!
I think his desperate attempts to quantify Renfield's behaviors into a new mental illness are telling in this regard. Maybe he is too used to having to meet some sort of expectation, and now he thinks this is the logical next step (It's NOT, but I digress). The feeling of having to keep performing above expectations, grasping at straws to do so, and subsequently burning oneself out (as well as others around you) and engaging in unethical practices? Idk. It sounds like something that would happen today. (tbh there are probably a ton of Sewards out there today, as there are still systemic problems within the mental health system that allow for the dehumanizing and abuse of patients).
It doesn't excuse his behavior. Nothing he does to Renfield is excusable, but I think it does explain some of the *why*. He isn't just cruel for cruelty's sake.
So, tldr I guess: I think reading Seward as someone who got stuck on a career path that he realized was unfufilling and that he ends up hating. Social conventions restrict him from just quitting without and a (socially acceptable) good reason to do so, and a lifetime of being regarded as one of the smartest people in the room means he can not allow himself to fail. Unfortunately, this also means he can not admit when his actions or his ideas are wrong when it comes to his job.
(But he can show that uncertainty FOR Lucy, and TO Arthur and Van Helsing, which speaks his trust and love for them)

A new day, a new mission, although in a way it had become routine, you didn't feel the excitement of before when going on missions; rather, you felt that you had fallen into an infinite loop of an endless routine.
Jack came into your office to inform you that they would have a new mission. You sighed again, following the same routine every day. Maybe next month you would ask for a change or resign, but you still had not decided. You grabbed your things.
Together, you and Jack entered the temple, even though he scoffed that you were carrying some old maps. As you moved deeper into the darkness, you began to hear strange noises and whispers coming from the shadows. Soon, they realized they were not alone.
The mummies, awakened from their eternal sleep when you entered the ancient temple, slowly emerged from their sarcophagi. They had probably triggered some trap or curse.
Jack and you looked at each other, not sure what you should do. Waking them was not part of the plan; you simply had to go for one of the clues you were told was there, although you were given no further details of the mission.
Their eyes glowed in the darkness as they approached Jack and you. It was a terrifying sight, although you could not deny that it was finally something different, and you felt excited. You felt again that beautiful sensation that had not been present for months, which is why you had fallen in love with your work.
“I'm starting to think it's a trap," Jack commented as he threw one of the mummies.
“Do you think so? Or maybe we activated a curse," you answered.
“Whatever. "
The mummies began to surround them, moving with eerie slowness.
With every step they took, the mummies got closer and closer. You weren't even sure they were finishing them off; on the contrary, you noticed more and more of them. They seemed to be about to attack because of the proximity, but just at that moment, you remembered something you had read in one of your grandmother's old books. You remembered a spell, although you didn't have the slightest idea what it would do.
Quickly, you began to recite the spell aloud. As the words echoed through the air, the mummies began to recede and finally fade into the darkness.
“Maybe they were hallucinations or something," you said after they disappeared.
“Whatever," Jack said again, picking up the small box that had been pointed out to them as having the clue they needed.
On the way back, you couldn't stop smiling; now you could remember the reasons why you loved your job.
“I think I won’t quit in the end," you muttered.
“What? “ Jack asked, confused; you had never mentioned anything about it to him before.
“Nothing."

*ahem*
I cannot stand the chance to miss out on this opportunity. A Hawaii Part II DOAI AU will be the best DOAI AU ever created, even better than the Breaking Bad DOAI, arguably.
The main character MUST be Simon, due to the fact that the main characters of the album is named Simon. So, Simon takes his pet bird, The Flock, away from Canada to get away from Clyde and into the depths of the seas to sail to Hawaii. After getting off the boat, Simon and Flock find themselves at peace and start to get used to Hawaii. Although, a certain orange gremlin wasn’t happy about their escape to Hawaii, that being Clyde. Therefore, Clyde sent Winfrey, Klaus, Jack and Lankmann off to Hawaii in search of the scarecrow and crow. Simon and Flock didn’t know what was to come, they just chilled in Hawaii, and eventually decided to go for a picnic in the woods, along with the trees and birds, but something else looming beside them. As Simon and Flock were out in the forest picnicking, Simon went to collect some flowers to keep as decorations for his farm, leaving Flock alone for a while with the picnic basket. That was his worst mistake ever however, when Klaus snuck along and chopped down a loose tree, landing on The Flock and killing him. Klaus was able to sneak back away before Simon came back, but when the scarecrow saw the Veldicorpse of his beloved pet bird, he was absolutely heartbroken.
Something else was happening while Simon was dreading of The Flock’s death however, since Simon was the only one known to be with Flock, many residents believed that Simon was the one who did the deed, thought to have dragged the bird out there and slaughtering him, thinking nobody would know. That, of course, wasn’t true, but the residents have believed that story, and Simon was sent off to court to plead his innocence. Nobody would ever give him the chance at explaining himself, the doubt held against him was just too much, forcing him to choose being Guilty or Insane. Simon thought long and hard about either rotting in jail or weeping in an asylum, but he had made his decision, and it was final; he had chosen to plead for insanity. The judge Winfrey condemned him to the infirmary, in which the scarecrow was thrown into the asylum, still disappointed in the fact that nobody would believe his story.
Days passed by, but it felt like weeks to Simon. Being trapped in that asylum was the absolute worst experience for him, but nothing could compare to what happened next; Lankmann, the owner of the asylum, condemned him to the electric chair, actually turning Simon insane. The scarecrow in distress couldn’t take it anymore, so he fled the asylum and searched for a way out of Hawaii. He got on his boat, got the sails ready, and completely escaped from the land he thought was safe.
Yet another unfortunate event was to come for him, as he was now lost at sea, with no sense in direction, no food left, and no hope ever found in his heart. So he’d been left out there to die. That, however, brought him happiness, as a miracle happened; he was finally able to reunite with his pet bird after all in the afterlife. The end.
(This entire AU was based off of the story in Hawaii Part II, check it out, amazing album.)

- alright, guess i’ll go back to the CABOT HOUSE to tie up this business. he said a week, but i’m not going to remember that, so i’ll see if i can just talk to him immediately.
Tumblr media
- HANCOCK’s seen the LANDMINE MOLE RATS too???? what maniac keeps doing that????
- ooh, back at CABOT HOUSE the doors that previously were locked are now open!
- also JACK has a TERMINAL that i missed last time, which he’s apparently been using since 1968? he mistyped his username as JACK CAB0T lol.
    - looks like this is a log of his experiments on the ARTIFACT? he apparently tried a whole lot of different treatments, none of which worked.
    - something that pinged my interest though was that he possibly traded samples of the SERUM with military contacts through a SENATOR DESOTO - a name which we’ve seen before in his patient records, connected to ANTONIO DESOTO, who exactly 100 years, 2 months, and 20 days later was admitted “under special arrangement with family”. this is the one for whom “no treatment [was] necessary” - maybe he was supposed to be in prison but got put in PARSONS instead due to family connections? idk.
    - he also outright admits that he arrived at the SERUM through “trial and error” and doesn’t actually know how it works :|
    - EDWARD was hired in 2058 to replace the previous jeeves, who was getting on in years. i shouldn’t be surprised that it never occurred to JACK to share his SERUM with the hired help, even if they were extremely devoted and already in on the big secret :/
    - the typo in his username somehow persisted all this time despite his getting ROBCO to look into it specifically lol. sure, just call microsoft to have someone reinstall your computer software over a single glitched alphanumeric character. rich folk man.
    - EDWARD was apparently still human immediately after the bombs fell, but JACK made him work outside in the radiation anyway and that’s how he turned into a ghoul. i should’ve shot this motherfucker back at the asylum >:(
    - EMOGENE is apparently a badass, which we already knew.
        - i’m still conflicted about her - JACK was the most directly involved in this business, and it was apparently WILHELMINA’s idea to use the SERUM, but EMOGENE... idk. maybe she has a diary in here or something, but so far it seems like her choices were “toe the line and go along with what’s good for the family” or “die of old age while everyone else remains young and healthy and ostracises you forever”, and she’s just been reliving the existential crisis cycle ever since.
        - i kinda feel bad for her, actually. after a couple of decades there would’ve been no way for that to not have been an incredibly isolating experience - no way to leave without aging overnight, no way to invite anyone in if even the most trusted servants don’t get to take the immortality juice. she was trapped with this fucker and their mother forever. yikes.

⛓: A plot bunny you just can’t let go of, even if you don’t plan on writing it.
strangely enough, the idea of a ghost hunting fic! headcanons under the cut;
modern era blink is really into horror & paranormal activity, which on a half-joking suggestion from jack leads him to creating a youtube channel surrounding unsolved mysteries
initially it's more of a way to pass the time than anything in between shifts at the local history museum and fossil site, but his content begins to gain traction after being mentioned by a more famous creator
needing to keep up with the demand, blink's friend avery starts helping out with his channel-- he's a film studies major at their college and has higher quality equipment than what blink was previously using
avery, whom blink affectionately nicknamed sniper, suggested blink take the opportunity to expand his content and try a video at a different angle
they landed on the classic "exploring an abandoned asylum", recruiting a handful of others who had appeared in blink's videos once or twice
a couple weeks of planning later sees blink, sniper, smalls, mush, hildy and jojo flying cross-country to new york (jack had been invited to come, but refused on the basis of "not wanting to die yet") the city had plenty of history, enough content to make the expense worth it
the first property they'd selected was owned by a well-known news journalist Bryan Denton (who bought the site after previous break-ins had led to the police discovering a wealth of historical artifacts). hildy spoke to the man over the phone and somehow convinced him to allow them access, claiming the potential research the students could do on-site
sniper and hildy, as the party's film students, are on videography duty, mush assigns himself to flashlight duty ("somebody should be in charge, it's not because i'm scared, blink,") and blink, smalls, and jojo are all in front of the cameras running the show
half the crew leans towards skepticism, while the others are bordering on curiosity and anxiety, but within an hour of being in the asylum, "incidents" start occurring
voices seeming to come from nowhere, doors opening and closing on their own, jojo being pushed down a flight of stairs when nobody had been standing near him (he twisted his ankle, smalls thought, but he would be okay)
mush was convinced someone was pranking them, or blink had set it up for the sake of the cameras, but reality settles in whenever they're faced with the faintest glimpse of a person, a boy with blonde curls and a cigarette tucked into the corner of his mouth
the ghost doesn't seem angry with them, merely confused, as if he was lost. his name is race, he says, and he died there, and wanted to know if they were dead too
enter discovering that the asylum was initially known as the refuge some two hundred years before, housing homeless kids unfortunate enough to land themselves in trouble
and basically the rest would be them uncovering more secrets of the city, befriending ghosts and ultimately getting trapped in a massive historical cover up headed by one of the biggest journalism companies in america, targets on their backs thanks to the world's owner, joseph pulitzer
i also have thoughts about their dynamics and majors and other random details;
blink- geosciences + minor in anthropology
sniper- film studies + english double major
smalls- history, ancient civilizations concentration
mush- theatre + business double major
hildy- film studies + minor in a/v communications
jojo- legal studies, criminal law concentration
blink and mush have been together since high school
blink and jack are roommates, they live across the hall from jojo and sniper in one of the dorms
mush technically shares an apartment with his sister, but he spends most of his time at blink's
hildy and smalls are roommates in an apartment, they met at a bookstore hildy was working at (& both work there now)
sniper and smalls are head-over-heels for one another, but still deeply in denial of the fact
their group gets the nickname "newsies" from blink's fans after a clip of smalls infodumping about the strike makes it into the video
send me a plot bunny ask!

This isn't an art request I'm just curious! Which pastas know each other in your canon?
—Great question, thank you for asking!
So first of all, I could go on and on about the various dynamics. I was about to write a full-on essay, but I realise that it would take way too long, for a simple question. If you want more details about a certain relationship, don't hesitate to ask, I would love to talk about it! :)
( Bloody Painter and Puppeteer are also missing, I haven't figured them out yet. This HC is subject to change, for now, it will do.)
Jeff & Liu —
Liu wants his brother back and convinces him to stop his mindless killing, but Jeff is resentful, he doesn't want to remember or connect to anything of his past. In his mind, his brother is dead. The only reason why Jeff didn't kill Liu yet is because Sully always gets in the way.
Liu & Jane —
Liu feels pity for Jane, but because their goals are opposite they do not get along. Sully feel different toward Jane, he doesn't feel bad for her, but he does have some level of respect for her. On the other hand, Jane just thinks Liu is an imbecile for running after Jeff.
Jane & Jeff —
Jane hates Jeff deeply, I don't believe I need to mention why. Jeff is more amused by her tentative at killing him, he could have killed her many times, but in the end it creat a source of entertainment for him.
Jeff The Killer & Eyeless Jack—
Jack was starving, he made a mistake with managing his stock of meat, and he wasn't even able to go out since it was daytime. He crossed paths with one of Jeff targets in an abandoned building where he was living. Jack devour them without a second taught, and Jeff witnesses the whole scene with his very own eye.
Jeff The Killer & Ben Drowned —
Ben previous victim had buried his game far from electricity and technological device, so he was trapped there, his spirit buried deep underground. Eventually, Jeff walked near Ben location and out of despair, made contact with him. Jeff has never come across a supernatural entity, so he helped him out after some taught.
Jeff The Killer & Masky —
They were both arrested around the same time and happened to be sent to the same asylum. Masky blunt personality peeked Jeff interest, they both planed an escape, succeed, and went back on their respective track.
Masky & Hoody —
Hoody personality has almost completely taken over Brian. He's neutral and at the same time aggressive toward Masky. Tim feels bad for Brian, but at this point, have lost all hope that Brian would even come to normal.
Slenderman & Hoody —
Has completely ruined him mentally, he's at his complete order, what is left of Brian is insignificant. Even if he could come back, he would be too scared to fight back.
Slenderman & Masky —
He's much more rebellious than Hoody, Tim is still there, somewhere. He hates Slenderman but has no choice but to obey him. If he dares to fight back, his life will be on the line.
Slenderman & The Rake —
Slenderman try to tame it for his profit, failed, try to lock it in the basement, almost killed Masky, try to lock it in a cage, the creature broke the door and escaped. Slenderman will catch him, eventually.
Slenderman & Laughing Jack —
Slenderman try to blackmail Jack into working with him, but I never found a reason good enough, he tries to manipulate him, but you can't fool an old clown. Jack knows better but to avoid this entity at all cost.
Slenderman & Eyeless Jack —
The tall being has been observing the demon for a while. Slenderman want's E.J. as his proxy, but Jack think differently. He wants nothing to do with Slenderman. Slenderman is just waiting for the right moment.
Slenderman & Zalgo —
Very tense conflict. A direct fight could cause the end of both parties. This is the main reason they are enemies because they are a mutual threat to each other.
Candy Pop & Laughing Jack —
Candy respect Jack craftsmanship, but he doesn't understand him as a person or his motive, although he never cared to find out.
Laughing Jack finds Candy Pop annoying. Jack prefer to be alone and having this loud-mouthed individual bothering him just irritates him.
Laughing Jack & Sally Williams —
The clown hates her to no end, many times she got in his way, trying to save children, and since she's a ghost, there wasn't much he could do. Sally on the other end, despite the clown. In the end, they mostly avoid each other.
Jason The Toymaker & Laughing Jack —
They accidentally target the same prey, turned out poorly and are now consider enemies. They did have a few decent encountering after this, Jack does understand Jason loneliness but at the same time find him foolish and naive.

A Lukewarm Defense of Rebecca de Winter
Look I am not going to argue that Rebecca was actually a good-hearted person. She was a bad person. She traumatized poor Ben and her treatment of Frank can be called workplace sexual harassment.
But I see people depicting Maxim as a poor man trapped in an abusive marriage and I just don’t agree. He had the instinct to kill her as early as her confessing her general sexual behavior to him in their honeymoon:
“She sat there, laughing, her black hair blowing in the wind; she told me about herself, told me things I shall never repeat to a living soul. I knew then what I had done, what I had married.” (...) “I nearly killed her then,’ he said. ‘It would have been so easy. One false step, one slip. You remember the precipice.” (Chapter 20)
Now, I think it is clear that Rebecca didn’t confess to being a serial killer or something. She confessed to being sexually active. Now, what that pertains to can be debated, did she have sex with multiple men, did she have affairs with women, or is it simply her not being a virgin? Either way, Maxim’s instinct to kill her there is horrifying. And it is also horrifyingly realistic, unfortunately.
Then they make a pact. Rebecca never cheats on Maxim, because she never lies to him. And we don’t actually know how much Rebecca was driven to marry with Maxim. She might have strived to marry him but this could also be an arranged marriage where both parties weren’t crazy about it. We don’t know. They make a pact. Rebecca will be able to carry on her affairs in exchange of managing Manderley excellently and putting a good face to the public and Maxim accepts. He isn’t a poor fifteen years old girl forced into an arranged marriage with an abusive man, he had a choice, he could easily divorce her, but he ultimately valued his reputation above his happiness. When Rebecca breaks this contract and brings her lovers to Manderley, he threatens to shoot Jack and ultimately shoots Rebecca.
Yes Rebecca does terrible things like her treatment of Frank, but Maxim doesn’t kill her because of these things. He kills her because she polluted the shades of Manderley by bringing Jack Favell into the grounds and then threatened him with someone who does not have his DNA owning Manderley. He does not shoot her because of jealousy or hurt, it’s an entirely pragmatic murder to prevent this latter possibility from happening. He does bring that gun to the cottage in preparation for an encounter with Favell, this is not a spontaneous crime of passion. And Rebecca manipulated him knowing that it will cause him to kill her, which does not say anything good about his character.
He does not feel one bit remorseful about the murder, he freely admits to that. Despite everything else that can happen afterwards, it was still worth it for preventing her son from owning Manderley. He is motivated enough to conceal the murder to the point of purposefully misidentifying a Jane Doe, which is horrible if you think about it a bit.
Some defenders of Maxim say that we would be ok with the murder if the genders were reversed. When some people defend women killing their abusive husbands those women are often battered wives who fear for the physical safety of themselves and frequently the safety of their children and who can’t walk away from the marriage without fearing for their lives. It is excused when it is regarded as self-defense. If a woman killed her husband for merely being a serial adulterer and having illegitimate children I would absolutely regard that woman as a horrible murderer. Also a simple gender reversal doesn’t work. Women and men are not equal in the society Rebecca and Maxim live in, and the attitudes towards the sexual promiscuity of men and women are absolutely different.
There are some other charges laid against Rebecca. Animal abuse is one of them, it comes from an episode related admiringly by Mrs Danvers of her whipping a horse bloody. This episode is certainly harrowing and is one of the most disturbing scenes in the book, but I think the disturbance is caused as much by Danvers’s admiration in relating it as much as the actual act itself. When put into context Rebecca is actually sixteen when this scene happens. It is also important to remember that hunting is the chief hobby of most of the characters in the book. They are not a class of people super sensitive about animal abuse. The same thing also can be said regarding the “incest” charges laid against Rebecca, these people are British gentry in the interwar period, while being with your cousin was getting less common, it was certainly not considered wildly abnormal, and no one in the book regards it as incest.
Regarding the trauma of poor Ben, this is certainly the worst thing Rebecca has done. And it is the first clue in the book to her true character. Rebecca threatens Ben with sending him to asylum so that he won’t talk about Jack and her being at the cottage. Remember that Maxim threatened shooting Jack if this happens. What Rebecca does is horrible but it is not motiveless cruelty, she does it for self-preservation. It is certainly not excusable and it does not make Ben’s trauma any less real, but it is not a sure sign of psychopathy.
I am not trying to paint Rebecca as a poor little victim, the whole point of the book is that she lived and died on her own terms. But I am very much disturbed by the real-life readers of the book excusing her murder by saying that she was emotionally abusive. My visceral reaction might have been caused by me coming from a culture where femicide and honor-killings are quite common. Many people in my country would still unequivocally regard an adulterous woman being murdered by her husband as entirely just. And there were multiple discussions surrounding femicide prevention about the time I started reading Rebecca, and I’ve seen in real time many men adopting the “emotional abuse by the wife” defense to explain away the prevalency of femicides. I am not joking. So I may be bringing my own cultural context into my reading of the novel. It might strike Western readers as merely a scandalous murder mystery, in my context there is nothing scandalous about Rebecca’s murder, it is a depressingly typical societal ill.
And Rebecca’s life wasn’t as glamourous as people seem to think it is. This is what Mrs Danvers says about her childhood:
“She was lovely then,’ she said. ‘Lovely as a picture; men turning to stare at her when she passed, and she not twelve years old” (Chapter 18)
And this is said by the woman who raised Rebecca. Her beloved cousin attempts to use her murder to get money, and his first response to learning about her having cancer is hoping that cancer is not contagious. Doctor Baker was clearly impressed by her stoic response to learning her illness and it was the most impactful part of the novel for me. She dies quite a bloody death. Rebecca’s life story gets very depressing when you stop to think about it.
I was put off by the possibility that the book might be trying to manipulate us into justifying femicide. But I think the last chapter proves that this was not really the intent. The last chapter was not the melodrama that I was expecting it to be. It was a farce laden with dramatic irony. And the last sentence of the book is “And the ashes blew towards us with the salt wind from the sea”. The sea is Rebecca’s symbol in the book. They murdered her and concealed her murder and they don’t get to live in the house she created.
I am not saying you can’t love Maxim or you can’t ship him with the narrator. You absolutely can. And you can hate Rebecca the character. But I think excusing her murder on the basis of her being emotionally abusive is too much for me.

No more running No more lying (Jack Kelley x reader, Newsies imagine)
No more running no more lying
Newsies x reader
Word count
Warnings: depression, self harm
Author’s note: This takes place before the strike.
--------------------------------
You had joined the Newsie gang a few months ago. Your folks were in an accident and you were left alone, on the streets. You didn’t talk about it much, you didn’t want to. You tried to lay low as much as you could with the group, you didn’t want to relive the pain
You, being the first female Newsie in...ever, caught a lot of attention from the other boys. Everyone wanted to partner with you, especially Jack Kelley. You were flattered really, but you weren’t interested. They never really stopped trying though
“Hey y/n/n, you’s wanna take me up on that offah?” Jack would ask you almost every morning.
You would always laugh it off. “Not yet, Jack. Nice try though.”
All the boys just thought you were stubborn. What kind of girl would say no to THE Jack Kelley? And if you were honest with yourself, you really were interested. But you didn't want anyone getting too close. You didn’t want anyone knowing your secret.
You never really got past losing your folks. You told the gang that it had happened a lot longer ago than it did. You didn’t want them to think it was fresh in your mind and keep peppering you about it. Instead you could just say “I don’t remember.” and they wouldn’t press further.
You would never let any of the guys think that you were still shaken up about it. They’d just give you a hard time about it or get all weird. No, you kept it locked away, far away for no one to see. You didn’t want them asking questions or finding out that something was seriously wrong.
Ever since your folks died, you couldn’t handle the waves of painful emotion that would sweep you off of your feet. Instead, you would take it out on your skin.
You had taken to self harming not long after you took to the streets. Before you left your home though, you had grabbed your pops’ dagger. You kept it hidden around a pape in the bottom of your sack. After nightfall, when all of the others were asleep, you would sneak out to the streets. You’d roll up your sleeves and slice your arms in the light given by the moon.
You never went too deep, seeing as you had no money to afford proper first aid supplies. No, instead you would wait until the blood ran dry, then roll down your sleeves and head back to your sleeping spot and wait for the morning bell to wake you.
You always wore long sleeves no matter where you went. You had joined the Newsies mid-spring, and it was now the dead of summer. You were always sweating and you’d get looks from the rest of the guys, but that was okay with you. You’d rather be sweating and getting weird glances than the looks of pity or disgust.
Besides, even if you did trust the guys with this kind of thing, you had to hide it away anyways. If anyone saw slashes on your arms, you’d either end up in an asylum or the refuge.
Neither was okay with you.
So you hid it, kept it locked away from everyone. You couldn’t bear to think of what would happen otherwise. You’d rather pretend to be something better than the broken mess that you are. Then you didn’t have to deal with it for most of the day. And no one else got to see it either. That was okay with you.
And so you went through your day to day life. You sold papes, you dealt with Jack’s non stop flirting, and you spent every night in the alleyways. When you had too many emotions you always turned to the one thing that never let you down.
Your father’s blade.
And you never really thought anything would change. You wanted it too, you just knew it couldn’t. You loved the boys like family, you just couldn’t shake that deep down, you felt like you weren’t where you were meant to be. And no matter how much you tried to fool yourself, you couldn’t run from your own mind.
You felt completely, utterly, trapped
Eventually your method of dealing with your emotions became less useful. But the pain didn’t decrease at all. If anything, your emotions were getting more out of hand. You were itching to do it while you were selling, and it became the only thing you could think about. You longed for the sun to go down and for everyone to fall asleep so you could go do what you longed to.
Slowly, you began to leave earlier and earlier. Before you knew people were asleep. You cared if someone saw you, but your need to find relief overpowered that.
Tonight was one of those nights.
You took to the streets before it was even completely dark out. You would look over your shoulder to make sure no one was following you, and no one was. But what you didn’t see, was a certain Jack Kelley watching you walk rather quickly down an alleyway. Which was strange to him, since you were looking over your shoulder as if someone was following you. But if that had been the case, then why would you walk down a dark alley?
Either way, he decided it wasn’t good news. And he decided that it would be best to follow you.
He climbed down from his self-proclaimed penthouse and began walking down the way you were heading. He stayed in the shadows and walked quietly so you wouldn’t suspect he was watching.
He saw you sit down on the ground and tilt your head back. He noticed how you looked distressed, and he replayed the day in his head, looking for something that was different about today than any other day. There was nothing.
He was brought out of his head by the sound of you hitting the ground, after which you proceeded to put your head in your hands. He could have sword he heard you stifling crying noises.
Jack shifted uncomfortably on his feet. He wasn’t really good at dealing with emotions, nonetheless with a girl. Especially not you. He’d never tell the others and he didn’t even want to admit it to himself, but his playful attempts at flirting really were genuine.
He wouldn’t admit it, but he had no idea what he was supposed to
He watched helplessly from the shadows, unsure of if it would be better to approach you or pretend like he never saw you in the first place. He was just about to turn around when he saw you roll up your sleeves.
Your arms were still covered in blood from the night before. And while it was dark, it wasn’t dark enough to conceal it from Jack’s eyes. He pulled his eyebrows together. When did you get hurt. HOW did you get hurt? And why wouldn’t you say anything?
He was pulled out of his thoughts once again when he saw you reach into your sack. He saw you hold a bundle of papes, and he wondered what they were for. They wouldn’t do much to help with dry blood. But then he saw you unwrap them, and he saw a glint coming off of what it was.
Some sort of metal. No, wait….
Jack swallowed nervously. You were holding a knife. And he decided he couldn’t wait anymore, and he couldn’t leave you. Not like this.
He ran over and before you could look to see what the sudden footsteps were, Jack was standing in front of you, reaching for the knife.
You grasped it tighter and began to wrestle with him. “NO! Kelley - Stop!” you whisper- yelled at him. You didn’t want any of the others hearing you. But he was a lot stronger than you and took the blade from you, tossing it far away from the both of you.
He looked at you hard, and though he was trying to conceal it, you could see he was scared. He still stood over where you sat. You tried to stand and get to where he had thrown it, but he put his hands on your shoulders, forcing you to sit back down. You still wrestled in his grasp. “Hey, hey! Y/n!” he said, much louder than you had before, trying to get your attention. He had it, and you sat back down and swallowed.
You tried to nonchalantly tug your sleeves down, but Jack grabbed your arm and crouched down to your level before you could. You tried to yank it away, Jack said “Hey, stop it. I just wanna see.”
Now that he could see it up close, he saw the many marks that laid beneath the blood. And in that moment, he was more scared than he had ever been in his entire life.
He knew exactly what this was, but he didn’t want to believe it. “What exactly did I jus’ walk in on, Y/n?”
You looked away, unable to look at his pained expression.  “None of your business, Jack,” you said, sounding a lot less tough than you intended to.
Jack smiled a little and said, “Now I know somethin’s up. You nevah call me by my name. Not that I’m complaining.” You shot him an annoyed glance and he held up the hand that wasn’t still holding your arm. “Alright, not now, I get it. But seriously - What were ya doin’ Y/N?”
You sigh and run your other hand through your hair. “Look, it’s not your problem, so…”
“Damn right it is! One of my newsies is hurtin’ an’ I won’t stand for it.”
Realizing you weren’t going to get out of this conversation, you let out another breath and looked back at Jack. “It’s complicated.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Oh, is it? Cause, by the looks of it, you was about to slice your skin apart. And by the looks of your arm, you’s been doin’ this a while.”
You closed your eyes and hung your head in defeat. “Yeah, Jack. i was.”
A bit taken aback, he let go of your arm. You quickly covered it with your sleeve again and crossed your arms over your chest. “Why would you’s do sucha thing?”
You leaned your head back against the building you sat against and closed your eyes again. “I dunno.”
“Yeah you do,” he said and you snapped your head back to him. “You’s don’ do somethin’ like that unless you’s has a reason.”
Damn, he really wasn’t gonna leave you alone. You looked him dead in the eye. “I lied to ya’s. My folks died the day before I’s joined you guys. I didn’ know how to deal with it, so’s this is what I do.”
Jack looked shocked now. That wasn’t what he had been expecting. He had always pegged you as the kinda girl who wouldn’t do something like this. “What - what d’you mean? Why didn’ yous say somethin’?”
You shook your head. “I’s didn’ know what to say. An’ I didn’ want no pity from you’s! This is my issue, and I’s gotta sort through it myself!”
He shook his head and said, “Look, no offense, but it doesn’ look like you’s been doin’ a great job with that.”
You tried to look angry with him, but you couldn’t bring yourself too. You had tried to keep up your facade for too long and you were breaking. You tried to speak but no words would come out. Your eyes started brimming with tears again, and Jack started to panic.
“No - Please, Don’ cry. I don’ knows how to deal with tears.”
You swallowed and laughed a little before giving him a serious face. “You’re doin’ a great job,” you said before laughing out even more
He scoffed and his lips curled into a smile. “Oh, is that so? Look, I’s doin’ the best I can ovah here, you’s can at least shows me some respect.”
You were both laughing now, and both glad that the conversation had lightened up a little bit. “But really, Y/N, why wouldn’ you’s say somethin’?
You shrugged, “I really didn’ want you’s to worry. And really - It isn’ you guys’ problem. An’ I realy didn’ know what to say. I didn’ wanna be a problem.”
You looked away and Jack said “Hey, listen here. You’s ain’ a problem. Nevah have been, nevah could be. So I need you’s to look at me.”
You brought your gaze back to meet Jack’s. “No more runnin’ away from this, no more lyin’. You ain’ nevah need to hide from me, an’ you especially can’ hide this anymore. And that, ovah there,” he said as he pointed to the knife. “Is comin’ with me. “
Your eyes widened and you shook your head. “No, please. I can’ - I need that. It’s my fadduh’s an’ - an’ I needs it. Please, Jack.”
Jack sighed, but held firm. “Look, I knows it’s importan’ to ya, but I can’ let you have it. Not alone.”
Tears now falling down your face, you still shook your head, even though you knew he was right. Sighing, you started to nod slightly, and Jack let out the breath he had been holding.
“An’ you’d gonna sell with me for the next while too.”
You nodded your head. That much you were okay with. You didn’t mind selling with Jack. It always made for a fun time. You looked at him and said “Jus’ please don’ treat me differen’. An’ don’ tell the others eithah.” He looked at you, as if deciding what to  do. “Please Jack,” you pleaded. He nodded. “Yeah, okay. I’s can do that.”
You looked down at your hands. “So, what now?” you asked hesitantly.
“Well, I’m jus’ gonna go ovah there and take that blade-ah yours, an’ then we’s gonna go back up there and try to get some sleep before the mornin’ bell tomorrah,” he said. You nodded your head.
“Okay Kelley. Sounds good to me,” you said quietly. He stood up and offered his hand out to you. You took it and stood up, standing inches apart. He looked down before looking back at you and saying “Y’know, I’s don’ just flirt around with any girl I’s see.”
You narrowed your eyes and said teasingly, “Yes you do.”
He blushed and laughed before saying “Yeah, but I don’ mean it with every girl I sees.”
Now it was your turn to blush. Still, you pulled it together and said “You almost had me there, Kelley.” You clapped a hand on his shoulder and started walking off.
You heard him run up behind you but what you weren’t expecting was when he turned you around and pressed his lips to yours, hands on both cheeks. When he pulled away, he said “I really do mean it, kid.”
And with that, the two of you walked back to where you would sleep for the night. Jack to his penthouse with Crutchie, and you to one not far away.

Memories : Top 15 Films of 2020
Tumblr media
If 2020 taught movie fans anything, it was that we shouldn’t take things for granted.  On the dollars and cents side of things, movie theaters were already facing an uphill battle to stay sustainable, but the “shelter-in-place” practice of March and beyond decimated box office returns, with many theaters yet to reopen (if they will open at all).  In terms of famous names and faces, the list of those who passed away featured numerous icons : Kobe Bryant, Kirk Douglas, Max von Sydow, Honor Blackman, Carl Reiner, Ennio Morricone, John Saxon, Wilford Brimley, Chadwick Boseman, Sean Connery, Tiny Lister Jr., Adolfo ‘Shabba Doo’ Quinones and many more transitioned to the great beyond.  Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Shudder and a number of other streaming services saw themselves step into the forefront of the entertainment provider realm, with Warner Brothers and a handful of other studios making announcements that they will be following suit for at least 2021, if not for good.
With all of this uncertainty and chaos, however, the year 2020 was a surprisingly strong one, in my opinion, when it came to cinematic output... so much so, in fact, that aside from a number of Honorable Mentions, my list of top films was expanded to 15 in order to accommodate all of my choices.  For anyone who has checked out my lists from previous years, you will know that I did not see every film released this year, but I did make my best effort to cover as wide a range of films as possible.  Enjoy the list, and be sure to support film in whatever medium you are able to moving forward so that it can thrive.
Tumblr media
HONORABLE MENTIONS
The 40-Year-Old Version (dir. Radha Blank) A nice little personal film that spoke to my hip-hop sensibility, as well as that ever-present awareness of the inevitability of age, and how it can skew our perspective in regards to our achievements.
Ava (dir. Tate Taylor) This isn’t the action film that’s going to reinvent the wheel, but if you look at action films like wheels, this is a quality wheel.  Outside of Common, I couldn’t really find much to shoot down... this will definitely be one I consider the next time I have company and we’re looking for something fun to check out.
Bill & Ted Face The Music (dir. Dean Parisot) I honestly would have been satisfied with just two films in this franchise, but surprisingly, a third entry was created that didn’t ruin my overall enjoyment of the previous two films.  Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter jumped in without missing a beat, a healthy dose of familiar faces popped back up, and the new cast additions weren’t too jarring... it’s nice to know that a pair of my favorite childhood films are officially now part of a trilogy.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (dir. Jason Woliner) This was possibly the most surprising release of 2020... outside of a couple of news blips that Sacha Baron Cohen made during production, not a lot about this film was leaked prior to its release.  For such a dated character and a seemingly outdated style of humor, Borat once again exposed the simplest parts of society in an incredibly insightful (albeit cringey as all get-out) manner.
Guns Akimbo (dir. Jason Lei Howden) One of the most fun films of 2020.  Somewhere, the creative minds behind Nerve are wishing that they’d made this film instead.
Henrietta and Her Dismal Display of Affection (dir. Jeffrey Garcia) Jeffrey Garcia is the homie, and I’ve had the pleasure of being in a number of his short films, so when he announced his intentions to write and shoot a feature film in 2020, I was completely on-board.  Miraculously, he was able to film the movie while the world was being ravaged by COVID-19, and though I cannot publicly announce details yet, this film has definitely already met (and likely succeeded) his expectations.
The Midnight Sky (dir. George Clooney) With each film that George Clooney directs, I realize more and more than he is an old soul trapped in a body idolized by the new school of film.  That being said, it’s nice to know that there are directors out there willing to embrace patient, silent and contemplative moments while simultaneously withholding from force-feeding viewers exposition.
Tenet (dir. Christopher Nolan) This was possibly the most anticipated release of the year, considering it was the king of the IMAX release crowd in its pre-release promotion.  After a small delay due to COVID-19, it was one of the first films released in hopes of testing the movie-going waters during what was sure to be a diminished period of time, which probably hurt its numbers.  Too many, the film was confusing, and the nit-picking was fierce from the criticism contingency, but in all honesty, this was pretty impressive Nolan fare... certainly a good second movie in a Nolan double feature.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 (dir. Aaron Sorkin) I cannot tell a lie... I was hugely impressed with how Sorkin managed to reel his personality and voice back in order to let this well-known, controversial moment in time present itself.  Sorkin has a tendency to be the star of his films, be it when he is in the writer or director role, but for this film, he managed to focus the best parts of his skillset into a highly respectful, educational and inspiring tale that fit the tumultuous summer we endured.
VHYes (dir. Jack Henry Robbins) I remember seeing this trailer as 2019 was coming to a close, and it was a film high on my list of desired viewing.  Then 2020 reared its ugly, stupid head and many releases disappeared into obscurity or found themselves delayed.  Luckily, this one slipped through the cracks and found a home in the streaming world, which in all honesty, suited its presentation very well.  One of the most delightfully weird films of the year, hands down.
Vivarium (dir. Lorcan Finnegan) Of all the films cut from my Top 15 list, this was the toughest cut to make.  I went into the film totally blind (with Jesse Eisenberg and my respect for his acting chops being the sole selling point), but this film really hit a lot of my buttons... it’s trippy as can be, there is a character that is freakishly unique and wholly unnerving, and the production design leaves a lasting impression.  Don’t let the Honorable Mention designation fool you... this one is a winner.
Wonder Woman 1984 (dir. Patty Jenkins) The Christmas gift that the masses collectively decided that they did not want.  Much like Ava, there is one glaring aspect of this film that I could have done without, but otherwise, I found this to be an enjoyable film.  Gal Gadot was made for this role, while Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal stepped up to the plate and impressed.  If you’re looking to be blown away, the Wonder Woman franchise isn’t the smartest place to go, but if you’re looking for entertainment, there’s plenty of it here.
Tumblr media
THE TOP 15 FILMS OF 2020
Tumblr media
15. Mignonnes (dir. Maïmouna Doucouré) This one started off the year with plenty of controversy.  What was an award-winning tale about womanhood and the difficulties surrounding coming of age in an ever-changing and evolving world quickly devolved into a campaign to ban the film (and Netflix).  Many people overlooked the film as a cautionary tale about what access to the Internet and the sexually-charged nature in which women are portrayed can do to developing girls, instead choosing to accuse the film of being fodder for malicious types seeking to exploit the sexualizing of young women.  More than anything, in my opinion, Mignonnes served as an example of our outrage-fueled culture and the way it tends to skew our perspective and/or our ability to take art at face value.
Tumblr media
14. His House (dir. Remi Weekes) As I’ve mentioned many times over the past week or so on this blog, horror films were one of the few genres that found a benefit from the film industry’s transition to streaming services for primary access to film.  While a number of traditional horror films received notice, His House took the opportunity to not only make a pure horror film, but one that spoke on racism and the conditions that asylum-seekers and refugees face.  The film is well-acted, the production value is high quality, and it’s paced beautifully... while not the highest film on this list, it is certainly one I will encourage others to see as time goes by.
Tumblr media
13. All Day and a Night (dir. Joe Robert Cole) When human nature reared its ugly head during COVID-19 in the form of numerous race-related killings, multitudes of businesses quickly adopted the Black Lives Matter mantra, with film distributors and streaming services taking advantage of the moment to produce and release content relevant to cultural and social awareness.  Netflix was no different, and of the many films they released in the wake of the harrowing events, All Day and a Night is the one that feels the most sincere and honest in its approach and presentation.  The streets of Oakland are presented with a vast array of characters, each with complex backgrounds and states of mind, all of which helps the viewer understand the pressure many minorities live with and process on a daily basis.
Tumblr media
12. She Dies Tomorrow (dir. Amy Seimetz) Execution is king, even when applied to the simplest of premises, and She Dies Tomorrow is a shining example of this.  In a very John Cassavetes move, director Amy Seimetz took her payment from her appearance in Pet Sematary and used it to fund a personal project that more than likely would have been ignored by studio heads.  The result is a hypnotic, entrancing and haunting film where stillness and anticipation play antagonist, while we as viewers feel the need to transpose ourselves into the protagonists we are presented due to their stilted but emotional performances.  Hopefully this one finds some notoriety in the cult classic realm as the years pass.
Tumblr media
11. The Vast of Night (dir. Andrew Patterson) For a debut film, The Vast of Night handles itself with a surprising amount of confidence in its vision.  The immersion is nearly instant as we are first placed in the premise of a TV show, and then a 1950′s town, but once the actors and camera get going, it’s up to us as viewers to strap in for the ride.  The story is deeply intriguing, the performances are strong enough to carry a very dialogue heavy movie, and the final act is chilling in its reveals.  I will be surprised if this one finds its way to a Best Original Screenplay nomination due to it being a debut film from a relatively unknown writer/director, but if it manages to get the nomination it will certainly be a well-deserved one.
Tumblr media
10. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (dir. Cathy Yan) The movie that broke the list.  If someone would have told me in 2019 that a film directly connected to Suicide Squad would be anywhere on a Top Films list I curated, I would have laughed dead in their face, and yet, here we are.  It’s like every good idea that was poorly executed in Suicide Squad found new life in Birds of Prey, which makes the film not only an entertaining watch, but a satisfying one.  Not only is Margot Robbie perfect in this film (as well as given a break on the exploitative costuming), but Mary Elizabeth Winstead arguably takes a stab at stealing the show with her performance.  Don’t let the DCEU association fool you... Birds of Prey is the real deal.
Tumblr media
9. Never Rarely Sometimes Always (dir. Eliza Hittman) Probably the most contemplative film on the entire list, and impressive in its nature for sure.  To my knowledge, the cast is made up of mostly unknowns (unless I’m sleeping on actors and actresses, which has been known to happen), and as a result, a tough slice of life to swallow is presented in an extremely grounded nature.  Sidney Flanigan gives a powerful performance, hopefully the first of many.
Tumblr media
8. Possessor [Uncut] (dir. Brandon Cronenberg) Easily the most “what the f-ck” film on this list, and certainly one worthy of the Cronenberg name.  Andrea Riseborough has been on my radar since Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) and Mandy, and seeing her in a lead role confirms her talent.  I’m a sucker for science-fiction films that don’t rely on digital effects and elaborate set pieces, and Possessor rings both of those bells with a vengeance.  I watched the uncut version, which has a couple of extremely brutal sequences that will unnerve even the most hardened viewer, but these sequences only serve to drive home the lost nature of Tasya, our protagonist.  This one isn’t for everyone, but for those who can stomach a bit off graphicness and process a narrative that doesn’t spoon-feed you answers, this one is a must see.
Tumblr media
7. Da 5 Bloods (dir. Spike Lee) Spike Lee has always been a huge influence on me as both an aspiring filmmaker and a fan of the medium, but I’d be lying if I told you that his last decade was a memorable one.  Outside of BlacKkKlansman, Lee has found himself falling short of his vision more often than not, but Da 5 Bloods is a tonal and stylistic bullseye.  Fans of Lee will dig it, fans of Vietnam films will dig it, and anyone who had an inkling of respect or admiration for Chadwick Boseman will be moved.  If Lee continues to make films as good as this one, he may find an entirely new generation of fans as a result.
Tumblr media
6. Soul (dir. Pete Docter) As mentioned at the top of this list, people love to try and sink films due to their own personal agendas, and Soul found itself in the crosshairs prior to its late 2020 release.  Many people were upset that a minority character would not only spend most of the movie as a blue blob, but would also seemingly serve as a tool for another character’s “salvation”.  That being said, once Soul dropped, anybody with common sense dropped those stances and realized that Pixar had not only made a stunningly beautiful film, but one that likely spoke to adults more than children.  Plain and simple, Soul is a bonafide instant classic.
Tumblr media
5. Kajillionaire (dir. Miranda July) If Evan Rachel Wood doesn’t win an Oscar for her performance in Kajillionaire (or at least garner a nomination), Hollywood needs to collectively have their head checked.  Every year worth its salt has a weird, quirky but loveable film, and Miranda July more than succeeded in making one for 2020.  The humor, both physical and dialogue-based, is on point, and the bittersweet nature of the story is gut-wrenching as the film progresses.  This one was probably the biggest surprise for 2020 in terms of prior awareness versus post-watch admiration.
Tumblr media
4. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (dir. George C. Wolfe) The final film of Chadwick Boseman’s short but prolific career is one that allowed him to exist in the wake of his reality, making his performance powerful and (seemingly) cathartic.  He is surrounded by supreme talent on all sides, as there are no weak performances in this film, and despite it essentially being a play shot for film, it feels far from limited, contained or constrained.  Not only does it speak on larger issues of the commodification of Black pain and talent, but it may serve as a vehicle for a posthumous Oscar for Boseman.
Tumblr media
3. The Devil All The Time (dir. Antonio Campos) This was the first Netflix original that made me really and truly respect them as a film distributor.  The list of talent for The Devil All The Time is truly impressive, and Tom Holland knocked his lead role out of the park.  Robert Pattinson is great as always, and the way that the story winds back into itself keeps you locked in and connected until the credits roll.  For something that came out so many months ago, it’s respectable that it was able to hold such a high position on a list that was as fluid as any I’ve ever put together.
Tumblr media
2. Mank (dir. David Fincher) For a time, this was the hands down film of the year on my list.  Gary Oldman has basically become a “can do no wrong” actor, and his performance was amplified by David Fincher’s ability to emulate the look, sound and feel of a bygone Hollywood era.  On top of this, the built in intrigue that comes with handling anything remotely connected to Orson Welles is present, making Mank almost feel like a companion piece to the prolific film that is Citizen Kane.  If The Devil All The Time was a victory for Netflix, then Mank was the win that put them into a true spot as contenders in the future of film distribution.
Tumblr media
1. I'm Thinking of Ending Things (dir. Charlie Kaufman) Where does one even begin with Charlie Kaufman?  Time and again, he proves to be one of the most truly unique voices to gain fame.  For I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Kaufman seemingly returns to his foundation of odd, offbeat love stories, only to take us on a journey of truly mind-bending and psyche-warping proportions.  Of all the movies on this list, this is the one that almost demands repeat viewings, as one must have an idea of the entire journey before they can understand the individual aspects laid out.  If dialogue isn’t your thing, then this one may not hold you, but that would be a shame, as this beautiful mystery stands head and shoulders above the rest of 2020′s stellar output.

Pairing: Thirteenth Doctor x Reader, Yaz x Reader and Jack Harkness x Reader
Warning: angst, mention of use of violence, forced relationship, ooc.
A/N: I’m bullshitting my way with this particular fanfiction. So Pardon the mess.
 PART TWO is here
Time sensitive.
 I hated that word.
Time sensitive is a being that is able to see both past and future timeline. Sometimes, if the Time sensitive person is of strong line, he or she would be able to see alternate timelines. Time sensitive person were deemed too fragile and dangerous to be left on their own. Most time sensitive are human and they are not meant to see time like that. Not many can cope with seeing through the fabric of time and most of the time, they went insane or burn out from the outside and inside. It will be a painful death.
My name is (name) and I am a time sensitive. Unfortunately.
Because of my nature, my family is hunted by a race called the Time Lord. They have a very firm law regarding a time sensitive person, they are to be taken to their home planet, Gallifrey, where the person will be chosen as a bride for some pompous Time Lord. Once they are bonded, the time sensitive person will have a stable mind and their power will be attune more to those of the past and the future of his or her bonded Time Lord.
Most of time sensitive have no choice and are forced to bond with a Time Lord, willing or not. I will not have that as my fate. So I ran, as far away as possible. I'm one of the oldest of age for someone who is a time sensitive. Most younger time sensitive are unable to hid very well and thus was taken to Gallifrey.
Time sensitive is originally supposed to be rare and yet these past years there are lot of people born with the time sensitive potential. I heard rumor it was because something that originated from Gallifrey. They said time sensitivity is a virus that plaque the human and the forced bond is some kind a cover up by the Time Lord. No one know for sure. The Time Lord are not very forthcoming about it. They never saw the human as equal in the first place, it's beneath them to even be with human, and yet they forced a bond with time sensitive person. They never treated time sensitive well, just another pawn for their own gain.
The Time Lord decided to take over the Earth so they can keep track and control all born time sensitive. Of course, the people of Earth refused and fought but it was useless. The Time Lord is superior compare to us, human.
I have motivation to continue evade those pompous time jackass. The Time Lord who found me is a bastard that didn't even respect me and only saw me as a means to an end. He caused the death of my parents. I was able to trick him and trap him inside a prison he prepared for me and I escaped his rage. I never saw him again. I hope he never able to escape that cage, it would serve him right to spend the rest of his immortal life imprisoned.
I have been joining a human resistance against the Time Lord on some corner of the Earth. With my time sensitivity, I become useful in the resistance to evade those time jackass. Though lately, I have been feeling sickly every time I peek on the fabric of time. I knew I was running out of time. I have to bond with a Time Lord (over my dead body) or really dies. I choose to die but I will use my time sensitivity as long as I can to help the resistance.
 &&&&
On the Gallifrey, the Time Lord officials are having a meeting regarding the resistance.
"They have a time sensitive on their side. That's the only possible way they could ever hope to evade us."
"Have we locate this time sensitive traitor?"
"They have hidden him or her very well. We think the time sensitive has got a bio damper to hide their signature."
"How is that even possible? Find him or her immediately!"
"This particular time sensitive person seemed stronger than most. He or she will be valuable."
"If they help the human, it's unlikely they will pledge loyalty to us. Too dangerous. I voted we find them and execute them as a warning to those against us."
"What a waste. We could force a bond and they would have no choice but to serve whoever Time Lord they are bonded to."
"They have been out there for too long. Their mind is probably unstable. It would only be a matter of time before they dies. But considering how they have been using their power, they are too dangerous to be left alive. I voted we kill them on sight."
The Doctor never like these meeting and despite being a celebrated war hero, no one seemed to want her opinion. She never approved of the Time Lords' decision to take over the Earth or the forcing of bond for those poor time sensitive people. But she also knew they have no choice but to bond with time sensitive or they will die. She hated that the Time Lords are forcing a bond, not because they care for the human, but because they want to exploit their power.
The Doctor raised her hand much to annoyance of the other. "I voted we capture them alive and then we will monitor their state of mind before we do anything harsh."
"Noted, Doctor." But it was clear to the Doctor, they didn't care. "So who will go to earth and find them?"
"I volunteer." The Doctor said as she raised her hand again eagerly.
 &&&&
The Doctor stroke her Tardis longingly. "It's been a while, old girl. Let's have an adventure together, eh?" she said. "We have to help the human and the poor time sensitive person on their side. Do you have any idea where they are?"
The Tardis hummed gently inside the Doctor's mind and she grinned. "Then, shall we go?"
 &&&&
I woke up in sweat. My eyes widened.
Yaz rushed toward me. "Are you okay, (name)? What is it?"
 "Someone is coming...someone dangerous..."
Yaz looked worried. "Do you know when?"
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Don't know. I can't see it clearly."
"It's getting worst, isn't it, for you, I mean, to see the future?" Yaz asked sadly.
"I'm fine, Yaz. Just needed more rest and I will be good as new." I lied.
She didn't believe me of course but she didn't argue. She knew better. Everyone knew I have an expired date.
 &&&&
"Who the hell are you? You are trespassing here!"
The Doctor raised both hands in surrender. "I'm human, like you, I come in peace. I'm just looking for asylum here."
Jack stared at him in suspicion. "Scan her!" he ordered his soldiers.
The Doctor remained calm as a soldier approached her with a scanning machine to determine her species.
 "Confirmed, human." the soldier replied.
The Doctor hummed. She is glad that her hunch is correct that the human has got their hands on the species scanner machine. The Doctor has put an upgraded bio damper on herself. "See? My name is Jane Smith. Now, may I get some rest? Been walking around for long and I'm tired."
Jack narrowed his eyes at the Doctor. "Fine. Let her get back to the bunker to see Martha. Tell her to keep an eyes on her."
The Doctor sighed in relief. She is in. Now she has to figure out which one of the human is the time sensitive.
 &&&&
The Doctor got along well with Martha. Martha is a doctor who is in charge to keep everyone in good fit. She has checked the Doctor and cleared her.
Martha introduced her to Donna who is in charge of assigning new people to their quarter and duty.
The Doctor stared at Donna's ginger hair longingly. "I never get to be ginger..." she murmured.
Donna is loud and a bit intimidating, the Doctor found, but she likes her enough.
Strange, how most of the people here in resistance are likeable to the Doctor, even though some of them, are soldier like Rose, Amy and Clara. For some reason, the Doctor felt like she knew them like they were old friends. But that's not possible as she never seen them before.
It was dinner time and everyone, in the bunker, have dinner together. Despite their situation, they are having a good laugh with each other. The Doctor admired them. She watched Rose and Clara having a laugh together at Jack's expense. Martha is seated with her boyfriend, Mickey, whispering at each other. Amy is with a soldier called Rory whom the Doctor learned is also her husband. A woman named Bill and Heather are distributing food for everyone. Everyone is having a good time.
The Doctor's eyes widened when she saw her former companion, Sarah Jane Smith. She was on the other side of the room, talking with Donna. She had no idea that Sarah Jane is part of the resistance. She smiled fondly. Of course, Sarah Jane will be a defender of the earth.
The Doctor took a seat with Rose and her friends.
"Hey, new girl, Jane, right?" Rose asked with a friendly smile.
Clara grinned as she look her up and down in appreciation which make the Doctor blushed red. "Looking good, Jane..."
"Down, girl." Rose said with a grin.
They soon involved with a friendly conversation with each other.
"So, how do you lot meet each other?" the Doctor asked curiously.
"Well, we all have our reason to join resistance... Mine is because of our daughter..." Amy said with a sad smile. "But we are actually recruited by..."
Rose suddenly shushed her. "No one is to mention him, remember?"
 "Ah, right, he-who-shall-not-be-named."
 "He's not Voldemort, Amy."
Everyone laughed at the running joke between them.
The Doctor observed everyone's interaction and realized that they must have been recruited by the time sensitive. But why? What makes them so special? Also now she knew the time sensitive is a man. She will have to look around for a male fit the description of a time sensitive.
 &&&&
"You need to eat, (name)." Yaz tried to persuade me to have dinner.
"Not hungry..." I said softly as I laid on my bed and stared at the ceiling.
Jack entered the room without knocking. The former time agent always annoyed me since I always reprimanded him about his manner. "Hey, how is my Voldemort doing today?"
I scoffed at the nickname. "Shouldn't I be the boy who lives?"
"Nah, too heroic." Jack said with a grin.
It was a secret within our circle that the time sensitive is actually me and that I am a female. It was Clara's idea to throw the Time Lord off my scent. That's why they spread a rumour that the time sensitive is actually male just in case there are mole within the resistance. It annoyed me that the team I put out nicknamed me Voldemort or he-who-shall-not-be-named.
"Did you see anymore about our hostile visitor?" Jack asked. He is worried after Yaz told him about my vision.
I shook my head. "Nope. But whoever it is coming and we have to be on alert."
"There a few new people coming in to join us. I already scanned them and they passed all the tests." Jack said.
I hummed. "Don't forget the Time Lord is a smarter race than us. They have plenty time to upgrade everything in their disposal. Ours are a bit outdated."
"Haven't you see anything that could help in that regard?"
"Think the Time Lords are on me and my tricks. I think they put precaution to put shadow around Gallifrey. Can't see them clearly."
 "Well that is a bummer."
 "Jack!" Yaz glared at him.
"Sorry, (name), you did good work." Jack said with a sad smile.
"I hate that I can't be much help." I said. "I have to prepare Melody for when the time come for me to die..."
Melody is the seven years old daughter of Amy and Rory and she is a time sensitive like me. I have been training her to hide herself from the prying us of other time sensitives and the time lords. She is the whole reason I recruited the parents. She will be my replacement in the future.
But that's not the only reason, I knew her parents are a potential defenders of earth. I saw it in my vision. most people I recruited personally are because of my vision. I knew that in another timeline they were defenders of earth alongside someone called the storm? I never find out about the storm person and I never told any of them about him. At least I think it's a him.
Jack and Yaz winced every time I mentioned about my being dying. They hated how helpless they are regarding my situation. It is not like they could get their hand on a decent time lord to bond with me. I told them plenty of time there are not one decent time lord in existence.
Sarah Jane disagreed though. She mentioned a man called the Doctor who always defended the earth. But she think that man has died because otherwise she believed that the Doctor would join our cause. I never believe her. I didn't recruit her but I sense she is a good person as she joined the resistance on her own free will.
 &&&&
The Doctor has been with the resistance for a week now and hasn't gotten any closer in figuring which male is the time sensitive. The said time sensitive indeed have been using a bio damper to hide his signature. The Doctor is worried the other Time Lords will be impatient and will declare wars on earth to force the time sensitive out.
The Doctor suspected a soft-spoken Ryan, who is not a soldier, is the time sensitive but she hasn't got any proof. Ryan is always with Graham, his grandfather, working on fixing damaged machinery within the bunker.
She hasn't formally talk to Sarah Jane either. She is unsure whether she should revealed her identity to her former companion. She is unsure that Sarah Jane would help her in tracking down the time sensitive.
She noticed a young woman sitting on library all by her lonesome.
"Hello there, I'm Jane, who are you? Never seen you before and I have been in the bunker for a week." the Doctor asked.
 &&&&
I was minding my own business, drawing a doodle on my sketch book, when a young woman approached me. I glanced at her. One of the new people Jack mentioned then. I ponder whether I should talk to her or be rude so she left me alone. I closed down my sketch book and said, "I have been ill so I haven't gotten out of my room. Doctor's order."
Without invitation, Jane took a seat beside me. I tried to push down my annoyance. "You shouldn't sit with me. I'm still ill. Wouldn't want to get you ill too..." I said, hoping to scare her away.
Jane didn't look bothered. "I'm not worried. I'm always healthy all my life. My mother said that germs are afraid of me." she said as she moved closer to me.
"Look, Jane, do you mind? I would rather be alone." I said rudely.
"You haven't tell me your name yet..."
"Why? Do you already know the name of everyone in the bunker?!" I asked angrily.
"Well, I meet with everyone already, I think, except those who are on mission." she said. "As for their name, sure, I do, I'm good with names, you see..." Then she started rattle on some name that I recognized and some that I didn't.
"Alright, I get it, It's (name), okay?" I said in annoyance and a bit impressed.
"See, that wasn't so hard, was it? Let's be friend, shall we?"
 "I don't do friend." I said immediately.
"How can you do not do friend? That's impossible!"
Jane's behaviour started to annoy me so much.
At the times, Yaz entered the library. When she saw me and Jane, she schooled her expression in a firm manner. "(Name), are you ditching your duty again?" she asked. She was saving me from having to interact with Jane. She knew how much I hated interaction.
"And who are you?" Jane asked with a tone that almost flirty which make Yaz blushed, which amused me. "Never see you either before. Hello there."
"I'm Yaz." she introduced herself. "You are Jane, right? Everyone talk about you. You are really famous with the children."
"I try..." Jane said with a grin.
"Sorry, Jane, we got to go to, duty call." I said as I grabbed Yaz away from her.
 "Can I go with...?"
Before she could finish, I pulled Yaz quickly and out of the way.
"That was mean, (name)." Yaz said as she saw Jane has this sort of kicked puppy look on her face.
"She is too cheerful, I hated it." I said.
 Yaz sighed.
 &&&&
The Doctor meet Melody and she realized almost immediately that she is a time sensitive. So there are more than one time sensitive within the resistance, the Doctor concluded. She realized someone has been training little Melody to utilize her power. But Melody is still a child and she slipped out which caused the Doctor to catch on her signature.
She remembered what Amy said about her reason to join the resistance is for her daughter's sake. The Doctor felt sadness for the whole affair. She wishes she could fix the time sensitive problem. But she is helpless. The Doctor really fond of little Melody for some reason. She had no idea why.
She has to report to Gallifrey soon and she is unsure whether she should inform them about little Melody. Melody would be safer in Gallifrey. But the Doctor know it is not quite true. She shuddered at the thought someone might try to claim Melody too early. Also if she informed about Melody, she will be ripped away from her parents and that's something the Doctor can't accept. She loves Amy and Rory, they are now her friends. She had managed to make friends here and she knew she would have to betray them eventually.

SUCH A SHAME SHES FUCKED IN THE HEAD: THE MOUSE IN THE ASYLUM, PART ONE
NOTE: In no way is the Heart’s Asylum, at all, a representation of a true asylum. It is, quite literally, another prison owned by the Heart’s used for their catches that are too valuable to lose. They refer to it as an Asylum because they ‘rehabilitate’ their ‘patients’. This is also the part of Wonderland Angus Bumby has managed to slither his way into when he came part after Alice reset the world. The asylum is also where Hatter was sent to in the series, when he killed March again. At least with my canon, which is why he would have feasibly been able to find Mally after that.
Mally’s technically been in the asylum twice. Both times due to Jack Heart. It’s incredibly difficult to find the way into it, and is a heavily secured area. The Queen of Hearts does not go here, pretty much ever. She knows about it, but she doesn’t see a point in going. The King of Hearts is more likely to send people to the Asylum, but it’s Jack’s personal favorite.
I won’t go into the second time she was in the asylum here, as I’m only doing this now bc of a thread going into it. But this is details of the first time Mally was sent there.
Being fitted for a dress, people doting on her without any understanding as to why. Until Jack enters, after having successfully convinced his mother that marrying the dormouse would be the easiest way to control him. Beyond that, he wanted to be engaged to her, because he knows her true parentage. He knows her mother is the rightful heir, and therefore she has more claim to the throne than he does. Jack, working with the resistance, has spent much of his life working to overthrow his mother and take over himself. He wasn’t going to risk his throne or Wonderland’s future by letting the rightful heir have a chance at it.
Mally, naturally, being told why she was being fitted for a gown, being overwhelmed by all the information being dumped on her, and being told all choice was being ripped away from her again, obviously freaked the hell out. One of the tailors tried to grab her, but accidentally touched her skin. Being unable to let go right away, they had to lose their arm to frostbite, and Jack used that as an excuse to send his future bride to the Asylum. Have her rehabilitated until she calmed down, and endeared to the idea.
It wouldnt’ take anyone long to realize the fact the room was literally built for her, and her being trapped there was planned for awhile.
Cage practically set up like an aquarium, a few inches of water littering the ground where she’d been tossed in. Press of a button, and electricity would run through, something that does effect the dormouse excessively. Not even given a moment to realize what was happening before the electricity ran through her body. Clothing wet, forcing herself to stand, and attempting to break out of the room. All for nothing, as it only made them break her down worse. Stronger currents, her eyes would start glowing before she could try to think of a plan. Veins turning purple when the pain came to be too much.
By the time she would be unconscious from the currents, they’d tie her down, and Dr. Angus Bumby would get the center stage. His specialty is turning others into mindless servants, and he’d use various injections, hypnosis, continuedly trying to forcibly break her mind.
She’d be in the asylum weeks, if not months. Losing track of time’s easy when the pain gets to be too much. It’d be when Jack thought he won, that she was ready to do what he wanted and agree to his conditions, that she’d find a way out. The Jabberwock was kept inside the Asylum as well, and that’s when she broke away from those bringing her to Jack. And broke the Jabberwock free to destroy the Asylum.
It’d be rebuilt before she’d return, but she’d escape through the Jabberwock’s escape, and ultimately due to March betraying the Queen to help fake her death.

Brock was going over the plan in his head; it was one of the first missions he had ever had, not to mention that it was the first unsupervised mission in which he was in charge. Jack, on the other hand, was better at appearing calm, although in reality he was completely nervous.
They were both adventurous and always looking for new thrills and experiences. One day, after training for such a mission, they heard about a gloomy place on the outskirts of town—an old abandoned building that was shrouded in urban legends.
They adjusted their flashlights as soon as they arrived; somehow Brock needed the mission to go well.
As they walked through the dusty hallways and dilapidated rooms, they began to talk about the urban legends they had heard. Jack mentioned the story of a ghost that was said to inhabit the building, whispering in the ears of those who dared enter. Brock, meanwhile, shared the story of a curse that befell anyone who dared to spend a night there.
As they continued to explore, the strange sounds and whispers seemed to increase in intensity. The tension in the air was palpable. Jack and Brock began to question whether the stories they had heard were more than just scary urban legends.
Suddenly, as they stood in a room whose appearance looked exaggeratedly ancient, the doors slammed shut behind them. They were trapped in darkness, with only the dim glow of their flashlights to illuminate their surroundings.
Their hearts pounded as they tried to find a way out. The whispers became more audible, and shadows seemed to move around them. Jack and Brock were plunged into a nightmare.
The first thing they did was to calm down; otherwise, they wouldn't be able to think clearly. Jack had noticed that in all the rooms there were different doors, so he somehow managed to open one. As they made their way through dark corridors and abandoned rooms, they heard footsteps that seemed to follow them. Fear and paranoia gripped them as they struggled to remain calm.
Brock looked at Jack, who, despite his apparent calm, was also showing signs of nervousness. They knew they had to find a way out as soon as possible.
They continued to explore the building, following the sound of footsteps that seemed to be chasing them. The shadows seemed to dance around them, playing with their minds and increasing their sense of unease.
In a moment of desperation, Brock remembered something he had learned during their training—the way they could escape from there and that they brought the right equipment—so he began to search through his backpack.
After several minutes, they finally found the exit. Fresh air greeted them outside. They looked at each other, exhausted but relieved to have escaped that nightmare. Although the mission had not gone as they had hoped, they would not give the details of what had happened.
From that day on, Jack and Brock never spoke of urban legends again without a slight shiver running down their spines. They had learned that some stories may have some truth in them, and ignoring them can have unexpected consequences.

- alright, now that i’m done with that heist that i slept on for way too long, i’m gonna tackle the ASYLUM thing! i have so many questions.
Tumblr media
- this place looks way too intact. and they have a SENTRY BOT on guard duty???? this JACK CABOT has got to be the richest of all rich fucks still around.
Tumblr media
- not sure if that’s the street number or the year it was built. either is plausible i guess.
- spoke to the intercom, got let in.
Tumblr media
- what the fuck???????
- this is... gotta be honest, given how people are living in the COMMONWEALTH, this is kinda obscene. my SETTLERS are living in tetanus-riddled death traps and this guy’s living by what would’ve been royal standards before the bombs fell? immediate dislike for this dude on principle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- well that’s portentious. jotting it down.

( benjamin wadsworth, 18, he/him) welcome to san francisco, william bright. rumor has it they are a demon-darklighter, but only they could tell you the truth! when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine scars, broken blades & bloody hands.
Tumblr media
enter at your own risk, this is a long one folks. i considered condensing but i said fuck it haha sorry guys theres a tldr at the end thou dw
BACKSTORY.
tw rape, abuse, child abuse, child soldiers, murder, assasination, abduction, torture, grooming, violence, weapons, entrapment, death, sucide attempt
he was born from a negotiation between a darklighter and a demon. well, more like the demon’s father and the darklighter. the demon was called MEPHISTO. he hungered for power in all shapes and forms, fathering a cambion and trying to use her for his own means. his daughter, a cambion named LUCIANA, had too much of her mother’s heart in her. she was useless to him, at least until he found use for her. as a bargaining chip. the darklighter’s name was JACK. the man had been an ordinary human by the name of jack adler in the 16th century. he was chosen by a demon to become something darker. however, even with this new power granted to him, jack wanted more. and more was something he never stopped reaching for.
jack wanted nothing more than his own army, and who better to be his soldiers than perfectly groomed children? so he made some. so many, all failures to him. the wrong species, he’d deem them. the wrong upbringing, the wrong strengths, the wrong EVERYTHING. in his hate for waiting, and sickness of failure, he started going after whoever he could. ( so yes, there’s lots of adler babies in the world. none of them to his standards but yeah. )
finally his mindset on a CAMBION. cambion, who were stronger than their demon counterparts. and a darklighter to boot? this child would be PERFECT. jack would even raise them himself, he decided. so after negotiations with mephisto, he took his daughter. he assaulted luciana, more than once. until finally, she got pregnant.
luciana was at a crossroads. she wasn’t happy. but that wasn’t the child’s fault, none of it was. so, she decided, she would TRY and love them. her level of succession... varied.
a small boy was born, given the name XION. it was not luciana’s choice, but jack silenced any protest. luciana hated the name. it was the name of a blade, not a child. and that was what xion was groomed to be. trained to hurt, to maim, to kill, all before he even reached double digits in age. jack was relentless in his plan. he wanted this child to be PERFECTION. and in jack’s eyes, he was. a measly five-year-old with blood-stained hands. perfection.
xion didn’t know what was right and wrong, he wasn’t taught it. he was taught his to slice with a sword, how to choke someone, the best places to hit, and how to make someone feel pain like no other. he learned violence like one would abcs. it was something ingrained into him. he lacked the knowledge to know killing was bad. no one told him otherwise. luciana had tried to, once. when he was small and lacked understanding. but her voice was small, jack’s was loud.
death was a normal part of life. to xion, it wasn’t just death that was normal. it was murder. murder he committed without looking back. xion had no idea the weight of a life. he simply obeyed his father’s orders without hesitation and continued on. he ate, he slept, and he obeyed. there was no room for likes, dislikes, wants or needs. he didn’t even know what he was missing.
he was nine years old when things... changed. luciana had given up on him by then. seeing the child she bore as a monster rather than a little boy. it was easier for her that way, at least for her. it made it a bit harder when xion actually started questioning things. it began with a man, an old man. xion’s first victim to ever beg for his life. many never got the chance, or they’d attempt attacking xion. ( each target was handpicked by jack, of course. ) but this man, an old man. he cried. he begged for his life, he spoke of a child younger than xion, a child that apparently needed him. he was on his knees, shaking violently as tears rolled down his cheeks. begging and begging. and xion... hesitated. this was unlike anything he’d known before. it brought to the surface emotion he didn’t even understand. so, xion let him go. he didn’t understand why, he didn’t understand much of any of it.
he knew his father was not one to confide in and his grandfather was hardly around as it was. so that left his mother. a woman who always kept her distance, who was cold at times. but never intentionally cruel. at least, not that he realized. he chased her down (no, it wasn’t easy. she didn’t want to be alone with him and he didn’t understand why.) but eventually, he was able to tell her. that he spared a man’s life. that he didn’t know WHY. that there was something wrong with him, obviously. luciana thought differently. instead of the anger he expected for his failure she... she put her arms around him. for a moment, he thought she was attacking him. but instead it was warm. it was a hug, his very first.
she spoke with such kindness, such softness, such affection--- it was unlike anything xion ever knew. he wanted more of it. ( he’d never been loved before, he didn’t understand it but it felt so nice? ) he saw her smile and it made him feel something else unfamiliar. something... good. he made her smile and it made him feel good. it was kind of wonderous. in her burst of emotion, luciana decided he could be salvaged. he wasn’t a monster, he could be saved. she began going on about how they could leave jack, leave hell, leave everything behind--- even their names! she never liked xion, she proclaimed, she much better liked WILLIAM. with curious eyes, he agreed to her plan. he hungered for more of it, for more love and affection and warmth.
a week, she had decided. she needed only a week to make preparations and then they would run like a week. a week, and then they were gone. well, luciana had been half right. she was gone in a week. on the day they were set to leave, xion couldn’t find the woman at all. and then there was his father, so smug... xion demanded the truth from him ( it was the first time he demanded anything.) and jack gave in. gloating, even. how luciana had deluded herself into thinking xion was any more than a weapon. how, maybe, she could have gotten away with it. if she hadn’t commissioned the witch to catch that spell. a spell to ensure jack couldn’t have any remaining children, to spare the world. jack hadn’t cared, he had xion. his perfect weapon.
his perfect weapon that attacked jack in that very moment. he dispatched with the boy easily, still only 9. scarring his down his eyes, and keen that he learns his lesson. xion, did not, in fact, learn his lesson. rather, he began to rebel. rebel was hardly even the word for his level of disobedience. refusing to even respond to the name xion ( in his head, he called himself WILLIAM, but jack needn’t know that ).
3 years went by, with xion intent on escaping his father or fighting him at all opportunities. no longer was he the perfect weapon at jack’s hand, he was something far worse. angry, disobedient, without purpose. he hungered for those warm emotions his mother gave him, and when he couldn’t recreate them he settled on something far more burning.
by the time the boy was 12 he riddled a number of scars, and unbridled fury. He wanted to find his mom. he was imbued with a goal. make sure his mother was alive, and once she was safe he’d kill his father and grandfather. simple. except… it really wasn’t.
it was nearing his 13th year when mephisto came back into the picture. angered at what jack had done to his daughter ( his possession ), mephisto arranged to set william free and to his mother. and finally, he felt it again, that warmth. his grandfather took him a asylum, a magical asylum. it was where his father had kept luciana and in the three previous years she’d been through what amounted to hell. her appearance alone was a drastic change, she looked so much older. so tired, so broken, exhausted by the simpleness of being. her hair was even whitening. and yet--- when her eyes landed on him she SMILED.
before william could make a move toward her, there was commotion. hunters, in the asylum. he didn’t know if it was planned or coincidence, but the timing was all too perfect. one moment, his mother was smiling at him. the next, the door flew open. her eyes went black, and then there was a bullet between them. william ATTACKED the hunters, almost like a rabid animal. he was scarred across the face, but ultimately they hesitated to kill a child. rather, they knocked him out.
he awoke in a cage with a devil’s trap upon it, keeping him locked within. the hunters were wary of the young boy, but ultimately unsure of what to do with him. they needed to decide if he was a menace to society or not. if he could be TRUSTED. so they did... tests. well, they called them tests. others would call them torture. william called them annoying (and to him, who been tortured properly the last three years, they were).
an ally of the hunters eventually came along. a young man by the name of DALLAN BRIGHT. it was around the time the hunters decided william was too dangerous, that he needed to be killed. now, you see, dallan didn’t exactly agree. and dallan (like his mother) was a cambion. so rather than arguing, he turned the hunters to stone and freed the young boy riddled with scars.
learning to trust dallan was something of a journey. he doubted it was permant, that dallan expected to become the guardian of a little hellion. and yet, together they remained. time went on, and something happened akin to bonding. will only thought akin because he had never bonded before. yet there dallan was, watching out for him in a way he had no idea what to do with. it was nice though. strengthened with time and action. when dallan proved time and time again he was trustworthy, and each time it shocked will. until eventually (maybe around the time he was 16) it stopped shocking him. because dallan was dallan and suddenly that meant something.
due to moving around quite a bit with dallan, will never had a fixture of permanent schooling. rather he acquired data from time to time and did a lot of research on what could be considered normal. he lacks quite a bit of knowledge in some others, where others he’s practically a dictionary.
APX SEASON 1.
his life changed in the form of a girl named lizzie saltzman. he was fiddling with a toy that made annoying sounds she wasn’t fond of. they talked and for the first time in his whole life, william felt interest, fondness. he was KEEN in getting to know the blonde girl who was undoubtedly one of a kind. the two met again, traded numbers, traded jabs and flirts. it was fun for them both, a spark to light up a whole home. however as she confessed to him her species a siphoner, will realized something vital. he happened to be a mass murderer, a former assassin, with kills over his belt extending past three digits. just because he wasn't that person anymore, didn’t mean lizzie shouldn’t know what she was talking into. he refused for a date until she knew more. then, she did. lizzie was a smart girl, she did her research. the two met at a library, ready to END IT ( before it even began). only for henchman of his father to attack. an altercation occurred, with the ultimate result of will sacrificing himself in order to ensure lizzie’s protection. will had been tortured for weeks, trying to reign him into submission. he had begged lizzie to let him go. she hadn’t listened. instead, she saved him. while he took to the mend, they spoke. they discussed. and their feelings were far too deep to let each other GO. it was beyond chemistry now, they were bonded together in ways they hadn’t with any other. eventually, the two went on their first date ( five guys ), they had their first kiss ( yes, there were fireworks between them ), among other things. they were a normal, healthy couple. at least until an incident occurred. lizzie’s life was put in jeopardy, and she confessed to him her dire situation of the merge. so, will proposed. it was a no brainer to him. if lizzie only had a few years left, a life sentence, if they didn’t find a way out of it— he wanted to spend every moment with her. she accepted, and they are officially ENGAGED. however, they made the decision to postpone the wedding itself for years to come. give them time to find a solution, and not to worry too much about it itself. only that bit has changed recently. done with the threat of jack looming above their heads, the two concocted a plan. a plan that went wayside. jack was banished to a prison world but lizzie DIED. or at least, will thought she did. his grief was painful, but upon learning she was alive--- well, things changed. the two made the decison to stop waiting for the wedding, they were happy and in love. they’re getting MARRIED.
the next radical change to his life was somehow getting a best friend in the form of landon kirby. inspired by lizzie, will tried to be more social. this resulted in him meeting landon kirby. the guy was a bit nerdy, but later will found out he was too. there was no life changing situation that thrust them together, but rather, much like lizzie and himself— will and landon clicked. they hung out together, had fun, built an ease of a relationship. so much so, that will confessed to landon his past on his own accord. and landon, he accepted will without hesitation. it was landon who found will in the aftermath of lizzie’s ‘death’ and it was landon who talked him off the ledge. the two are kinda bonded for life tbh.
NOTES / FUN FACTS:
for the longest time, william’s only goal had been to murder his father. that has changed in frequent time, however, if ever given the opportunity it wouldn’t be as easy he dreamed it. in fact, he’d probably struggle with killing jack due to the man being the single constant within his life and having such a power over him, even now.
meta on william halliwell & emotion.
nicole alfaro and arlo park are his half siblings and yep, will has no idea.
TLDR: william used to be a weapon (assassin) his father jack. hella escaped and was semi adopted by dallan bright ( he is william bright now ). met lizzie saltzman, fell deeply in love, and is a kind of a hot mess but he’s trying.
