me, waking up bc for some reason the heater is up and I am sweating to have to get up and crack open the window: .... The reason I focus hard on the personal struggles and inner turmoil of Broly is just because that’s how I see his character aside from the terrifying psycho he is when all hell breaks loose from him after years of what could be trauma. Yeah everyone loves his lssj form but fuck if i don’t like seeing what could possibly go on beneath the surface. What aspects could be warped or driven to be a certain way because its all he ever knew and how would it affect him when small changes are coaxed into him through repeated interactions and slowly getting used to having someone around that he legitimately becomes accustomed to.

another part of my brain: ... is this also an elaborate way to say I have no goddamn idea what to do with the lssj because in my head, he can basically obliterate just about anything? yes. yes it is. the only valid way I can see him actually getting into trouble outside of powerful transformations by capable individuals or their own power alone is actually Himself because his Anger is so prevalent that it stresses him out without the aid of that suppression device forcing him to calm down (or having certain people in some cases that manage to have enough of a bond to him that he is capable of calming down to their efforts or ways they employ). Honestly, what sort of after effects could happen to him being used to this device and the feelings it forced upon and then suddenly getting his freedom away from it? The bastard’s more intelligent than he lets on and its evident through watching him fight with what could very well just be ambush tactics and throwing his weight around as what he probably learned from growing up watching other predatory animals as he grew into power.

The Heehoo part of my brain: ... Him being a fucking psycho is hot but lmfao I don’t think I can use it much outside of plotted threads or drabbles. I blame some artists for capturing that side of him so well in illustrative mediums and I hope to one day get to that level but in a literary sense (along with artistic but that’s already a bit of a work in progress)

Finished watching the one piece live action... it was fun!

#tbh i thought itd flop hard like alot of live actions but then ppl started rly liking it so i gave it a go #the camera work was um. interesting lmao #also i just didnt enjoy luffy as much as in the anime but i think thats just like. the difference in mediums yknow #the constant close ups was kinda eh #sorry for veing a one piece fan i hate it #love how they made the den den mushis so terrifying! i want one #ngl it made me want to rewatch the anime (only pre timeskip tho cuz i like the artstyle more than post timeskip #also i feel like they made it . way darker? or is it just seeing in live action makinf me feel tgat way #also the worst thing thwy did was make namis eyes blue....guve back her beautiful brown eyes #i liked the way they went with like. the designs for things... kayas house was nice the fishmen #ALSO LOVED RHE INTROS OF CHARACTETS WITH THE WANTED POSTER ITS COOĹ #hope oda dies tho hate that man so much

Sonic Prime: "Season 2"

Eight more episodes of Sonic Prime are out! They're labeled as "season 2" despite just being the next eight episodes of the first (and presumably only) season, allowing Netflix to market it as multiple seasons without having to give the cast and crew raises. They love doing that shit to their original cartoons. Ugh.

Anyway! Last time, I gave the show some leeway because it was still finding its legs. This time, though? We're now two thirds of the way through the series, and sadly, I think it's time to accept the truth:

While there are parts I like, a lot of this show... kinda sucks?

This multiverse sucks and Rouge was robbed

Previously, I noted the pattern of each universe spotlighting a different friend of Sonic's (Tails in New Yolk City, Amy in the jungle world, Knuckles in the pirate world) and predicted that, hopefully, Rouge would get her time to shine next. And with 16 episodes left, surely there's time to explore new worlds that are more interesting than the jungle and pirate worlds. Those were just the warm up act. Right?

...Right?

Nope! That's it! There are no more worlds.

This multiverse show where anything is possible really is just about another Eggman-controlled dystopia world, a jungle world, and a pirate world. That's all they came up with! Just those three, and two dead worlds that don't really count - one a featureless wasteland, the other a ghostly echo of the original Green Hill dubbed "Ghost Hill." (Sonic's friends appear here as holograms stuck repeating a single line each. It gets old immediately.)

The jungle and pirate worlds and their inhabitants being so overwhelmingly generic becomes unforgivable the moment you realize this is all we're gonna get. It just leaves me wishing they'd thrown this whole concept out and finally made a normal Sonic cartoon with no twist in its premise. A few of the new takes here are good, particularly Nine as a darker riff on Tails, but so many of them don't feel anything like the fun characters they're supposed to be. They're stock cartoon characters wearing the Sonic casts' skins.

I'll admit my bias is showing, but god, Rouge is REALLY done dirty by this setup. The normal Rouge we see in the first episode is so fun for how briefly she appears, but then in all the other worlds she's reduced to a generic action girl with zero personality. What's her purpose, exactly, when every AU version of Amy is ALSO a straightforward action girl? It drives me absolutely insane that they gave us a PIRATE ROUGE and she doesn't care about treasure. They do nothing with this! How!!!!!!!! She's just never gonna get her turn. It's so obvious that Rouge is only in this show so that they can have another girl, but you could swap her out with another character like Blaze and it'd make no difference.

Speaking of the pirates, though...

The way things play out in the pirate world is so stupid

Previously, with the Paradox Prism shard within reach, Captain Dread Knux was regressing into his old obsessive personality. I'm fine with this. Sonic and Dread both want the shard, they're gonna fight over it. Obvious stuff. But the actual impact it has on the story is maybe the stupidest bit of writing in this entire show so far.

Basically, while fighting a couple of the Eggmen and their robots at sea, Sonic has to briefly run over to the enemy ship to fight them and grab the Paradox Prism shard while Dread and his crew remain back on their ship. Dread goes "Oh my god, look! Sonic's abandoning us! Traitor!" While Sonic is... like 200 feet away. Still in clear view. Fighting the guys who are trying to kill them. Retrieving Dread's beloved treasure for him.

And yet, Dread's crew buys this! And when Sonic runs right back over with the shard in hand, they're all like "HOW DARE YOU BETRAY US" and turn on him.

It's just. What?!

This isn't a huge part of the "season," but I highlight it as maybe the worst moment of the show's character writing. I'm reminded of Thorn Rose's backstory from last time, where she was depicted as suddenly snapping one day when she saw her friends pick one too many berries in the jungle. Sometimes a character just needs to pivot for the story to work, and they aren't really interested in getting there smoothly.

The Chaos Council fucking sucks

I tried so hard to like these guys, but they drag the show down so much.

The choice to have a team of five different Eggmen really just means that Eggman has been split into five one-note characters. Four of them revolve entirely around the most trite, predictable, boomer-ass jokes based on their ages. The teenage one is whiny and just wants to play video games. The young adult one is a vegan hipster who does yoga. The old one is cranky about all the whippersnappers and has a bad back. The baby is a baby. These are jokes that would've been tired if this show aired 20 years ago.

The odd man out is Mister Doctor Eggman, the middle-aged one with a toupee who's the stand-in for regular Eggman. But even he kinda sucks. The other four all being one-note joke characters means that he has to be the straight man of the group, so he's just very dry and serious and plot-focused without any of Eggman's fun eccentricities. He's neither particularly funny nor particularly sinister, which is just about the worst place for an Eggman to be.

He doesn't even have any incompetent robot lackeys to bounce off of, because the unfunny alternate age Eggmen fill the quota for bumbling secondary villains. But also, like... Orbot and Cubot are in this show! They were in the first episode! Where are they? God, I never thought I'd miss them so much...

But, okay. It's not ALL bad.

The highlights

There's a recurring theme here, which is that the best episodes are the ones where Sonic is pitted against a foe who can match his speed and they just let the animation carry it.

The first of the new episodes is mostly about Sonic fighting Shadow, and BOY is their fight fun to watch. Said fight happens because Shadow blames Sonic for shattering the universe and doesn't trust him to fix things. Shadow wants to restore their world, but he refuses to see the various AU counterparts as the same people Sonic once knew, and he doesn't really care what happens to them. Ultimately, though, he begrudgingly accepts that Sonic really is the only one who can hop between dimensions for Plot Reasons, and therefore lets him go try to do things the nice way. He sadly spends most of his time waiting around in the void between worlds, but in the last episode of the batch he and Sonic get to team up against the Chaos Council's forces and it's very cool.

As far as recent interpretations of Shadow go, this is a good one. He's a great foil for Sonic, which just makes me wish he could travel with Sonic to the different worlds. He's cynical and overly pragmatic in his approach, but his points aren't entirely wrong. His anger feels justified. They even let him have some snark! And Ian Hanlin is really great in the role - definitely a contender for Shadow's best voice ever. He just sounds so natural.

The other speedster Sonic fights is Chaos Sonic, the Chaos Council's take on Metal.

He can talk! Deven is basically doing a Jaleel impersonation for him? People are very mixed on this.

The idea behind Chaos Sonic is to turn Sonic's obnoxious smack talk and zingers back around on him, and I don't hate this idea, even if a lot of fans find him annoying compared to Metal Sonic. (Some comparisons have been made to Archie's Shard, but I assume this is a coincidence.) Like the rest of the script, his dialogue certainly isn't anything to write home about, but the fights he gets into with Sonic and co. are so damn fun and dynamic that I have to like him. I also like how expressive his eyes are on his dome screen face, and the animators have a ton of fun with the fact that his torso and head can rotate 360 degrees.

Unfortunately, he's destroyed at the end of his debut episode. I'm praying he gets rebuilt, because this show desperately needs better villains than the Chaos Council.

Again, the animation in Prime is maybe the best animation in any official Sonic media, period. I just wished I liked the characters and worlds enough to be invested in more of the fights. It's hard to care about the dozenth group battle against the generic Eggforcer bots and the baby in his Fisher-Price mech.

The note we end on

After fighting a giant glowing replica of the normal Eggman for... some reason? Episode 16 ends with Sonic and Nine getting into an argument over what to do with the Paradox Prism shards. Sonic wants to restore his original world, but Nine still wants to create a new, better world out of the one that's just an empty wasteland, believing he doesn't belong anywhere else. Nine angrily runs off with the shards, and Sonic is distraught as he realizes that Shadow was seemingly right about how he shouldn't trust Nine.

I kind of like this conflict, mostly because Nine is the standout character of this show. But my main problem is that we don't know what will happen when everything is fixed.

The logical assumption is that the alternate worlds will just... stop existing, right? That must be the idea if Sonic and Nine are treating restoring the original world and creating a new one in the Shatterverse as mutually exclusive options, right? If the Shatterverse disappears, will Nine and the rest all stop existing, too? The show seems unwilling to discuss this possibility, so I'm left not really knowing what the stakes are in this conflict. Nine becomes a whole lot more sympathetic and Sonic becomes a whole lot more monstrous if restoring the world will erase most of this show's cast from existence, but the thought that this could even happen doesn't seem to have crossed Sonic's mind. Sonic seems to want to take his AU friends back to the regular Green Hill - he at least wants to introduce Nine to his normal friends - but like... he can't really do that, can he? They're not gonna have four Tailses running around.

I don't really know what direction this is all headed in. I guess we just have to keep watching, even if I'm past the point of accepting that this show is mostly very mid.

It's just frustrating that everyone else working on this show is clearly giving it their all while the writers at Man of Action phone it in for so much of its runtime. The scripts drag this show down so, so hard. There are moments and episodes I like, but you have to slog through so much mediocrity to get there.

chan- think of how he is with lee know and seungmin sometimes. yeah. like when you’re sitting there like 😐😒, he’s squishing you and sticking his face in yours affectionately. you’re his baby. there are times when he respects your space but for the most part he’s all over you. most of the time he’s the protector but there have been a few times he’s seen your protective side and the pride he feels???? omg

lee know- omg he loves it sm. he already has the sunshine to his grumpy with some of the other boys. so you’re just like him. his fav thing though is when you get a burst of energy (zoomies) usually at the end of the day and you’re just goofing off with him. he LOVES to tease you. not rly the way chan does where it’s all cutesy but he just kinda pokes at you… physically and metaphorically. he just loves having someone he can chill with and really be himself.

changbin- so he likes to play that he’s this dark boy but he’s really a softie. he gets kinda nervous sometimes when you’re too quiet that he’s done something wrong but you do this thing where when you’re sitting together you take his hand and put it where you want affection at that moment. like you’ll just hold his hand or put his hand on your head and he just :> “oh so you do like me???”

hyunjin- he’s finally found someone as sassy as him. the funniest thing (for others really) is when something happens and you both kinda share the same look of confusion and disgust (judgement). everything is just really calm and lowkey with you, which he loves but then when you’re both alone you kinda bounce off the walls together.

han- beast boy x raven (gn) vibes. like he is an absolute SIMP for you. he thrives with a darker, kinda emo or goth partner. even if that’s not rly your aesthetic, he just likes having a partner that’s more lowkey to balance him out but whenever you do get your bursts of energy he always matches it and it’s kinda magical. you’re the one usually teasing him and it’s funny bc it’ll either fluster the hell out of him or like he didn’t even catch it. you 1000% become like a security blanket in human form for him.

felix- grumpy x sunshine. now, he’s not the type to poke fun at you or anything or tease you when you’re in your more quiet, grumpy moments. he just kinda sits there like the sunshine he is and loves you through it. damn, is he cute. he has you melting instantly but you obviously can’t show that. he loves to cuddle you even when you’re stiff as a board, unsure what to do with affection. felix also does this super 🫠🫠🫠 thing where he randomly tells you you’re pretty (✨gn✨) AND ITS ALWAYS WITH THE CUTEST FACE SCRUNCH and then gives you a little peck leaving you like 🧍🏻😳

seungmin- you two actually have similar energy but he’s like the dog version? i wouldn’t necessarily call him a black lab or anything, he’s just kinda the puppy version of you. (idk how to make it make sense. iykyk) you two just kinda vibe together and enjoy each other’s company without having to say a lot which is super nice. you just have this like rhythm and comfortability with each other that is just so ✨✨✨. there’s also this insane sixth sense with each other where you both feel out what’s going on in the room and know what to do without saying a word to each other. the amount of times where y’all have been hanging out with friends only to get up and leave without any notice to anyone else to be like, “yeah, we’re gonna go” bc both of your social batteries have drained and you two just need to go watch some tv. you’re both also incredibly protective of each other when necessary.

i.n- he just finds everything you do so adorable and endearing. think wednesday and enid but he doesn’t rly have the enid aesthetic, just vibes. you have more of a dark side which he admittedly kinda loves. you could be sitting there sharpening knives and he’s like, “aren’t they the cutest!” (exaggeration but you get the idea) you just exist and he’s your biggest fan though. omg you smiled at him once (kinda sarcastically) and it made his whole year.

How dark would you go with a Ghost x reader scenario? Cause I'm honestly liking the dubcon prompt you did with the therapist reader ngl...

I have a lot of ideas that border on darker themes for Ghost! The way I prefer to write him (at least in regards to ghost/reader fics - with ghostsoap I prefer him nasty and mean with a little dacryphilia kink....actually i kinda like the dacryphilia kink for ghost/reader too LOL) is gruff and stern, but with a softer underbelly.

(slight nsfw 🚩 under the read more but nothing graphic)

That being said, the way I headcanon Ghost is the kind of man who purposefully keeps 99% of people at a distance. Doesn't give them access to his inner life, doesn't spare them any thought or feeling - he's only there to engage with them in whatever way the situation calls for (work, a service of some kind, etc).

He's also the kind of man that deep down really wants to rescue things - anything lost or abandoned. But he also adamantly rejects that part of himself (i.e. he's clearly a dog guy, but he can still make some pretty dark jokes about dead dogs....it's just how he operates, he's hardened himself).

But the second someone slips past his defences and somehow worms their way onto his good side, he's all in. The flip side of his coldness is complete fixation, red hot.

So in that plane crash au, where he's suddenly in an intensely dangerous situation with this girl that maybe he's been distantly aware of and interested in (but never letting that interest sink its claws in fully), that obsessive part of him completely takes over. He has to provide for her, has to keep her close and hunt for her and keep her safe, and that compulsion doesn't wear off when they're back in civilization.

(also, this is personal, but I rreeeaalllyyyy like some of those writers that do like "pervert 141" aus where Ghost can't stop touching and manhandling you because he's just brimming with pent up lust/frustration/testosterone even if you're a bit whiny about it or unsure of whether to say something. I don't think I could write those well but god i EAT them up)

THAT BEING SAID, For ghostsoap I'm kind of insane LMAO. I desperately want to write a toxic "bdsm au" universe (that 'verse where people are either sub/dom/switch biologically, like omegaverse but for bdsm) where ghost makes soap subdrop just because he can and to prove that soap is his ❤️ 🚩

Joel Miller birth chart analysis (Happy Birthday, king, sorry the universe, like, kinda hates you)

So, to start, game!Joel and show!Joel have two (slightly) different birth charts because they were born in different years and different cities. I think they were born in different cities, anyway, it's kind of unclear where show!Joel was born, but the city doesn't change the chart that much, and not with the big three. So, this will be broken down accordingly.

Speaking of the big three! That's what I'll be looking at today is Joel's sun, moon, and rising sign. Both show and game Joel have the same sun and rising signs, but different moon signs, which is interesting. Their moon signs definitely rang the most true to me, oddly enough.

We'll talk about sun and rising first, since game and show Joel have the same signs for those aspects, and then we'll talk about the moon, where they differ.

I also want to talk about their Lilith signs, which reveals darker, deeper natures.

Joel Miller's sun sign: Libra.

The sun sign represents our identity and our sense of self. Libra is an air sign (intellectual, social, usually good at communicating) and a cardinal sign (leaders, like to be in charge).

Libra is a sign of balance. They value peace, but in a way that always pits them in the middle ground, which leads to them trying to please everyone in every way. Joel is also in opposition to his Cancer moon. It makes him strong willed but sensitive. He feels a constant pull between wants and needs. This means sometimes his public and private personalities differ.

We won't need to break this one down into two Joels. The rising sign, or ascendant, is how you present yourself to the world. Even in conjunction with his moon and sun signs, I really don't feel this one fits Joel too well. This sign changed every few hours though, and since we don't have a precise time of birth for either of them, its hard to say if this one is accurate.

Looking at some of the other houses might tell us more, but those with this sign have an underlying faith in the world around them, hope, and a sprit for life. They can be restless, and feel as though they're always searching for something.

Here we have to break it down, since they have two different moon signs. The moon sign represents the inner self, how you view yourself.

Joel likes to feel useful and needed. He finds security in the little things in life. For most that this would mean, buying groceries, paying bills on time, taking care of everyday tasks. For someone in the post-apocalypse, this probably looks like being able to provide for people he cares about, to make sure everyone is safe. People with this placement are content to live a 'regular' life. They do very well with routine. They do best when they have something to take care of, usually a job or a hobby, but I think for Joel this would be taking care of his family.

He is skeptical and does not have blind faith in anything. He is practical when showing affection and can be shy in love, but kind. Very self critical, but humble and calm, typically reserved.

Show!Joel's moon in Cancer:

This sign clings. He clings to his home, his things, the people he cares about. He seeks security and peace in the people he cares about, and does not like change. He is devoted and forms strong connections to his past. He dwells on hurts that other people have long ago let go.

He seeks warmth and security and can be waspish when he doesn't receive these things. He is dependable, and a caretaker, to his friends and loved ones. Devoted and nurturing, he likes home, comfort, routine. He is very caring and protective, but can become dependent. Moody often, but funny. Sometimes known to act irrationally, especially when he feels insecure. Accommodating, but seeks understanding.

Joel Miller's Lilith sign: Sagittarius and Taurus

Lilith represents deeper, darker natures that might be buried.

Often feels ashamed or uncomfortable with his curiosity and need to seek out meaning. He questions constantly and feels bad for it, for challenging facts and beliefs, and that his convictions can be taken to extremes.

Has a hard time feeling fully satisfied. He is always wanting. He fears indulging those wants. When he thinks he might lose something, he can become possessive. But understanding the he is allowed to want and have is incredibly hard.

Yeehaw! Happy Birthday, Joel Miller! I love you very, very much and reading about your moon signs made me very emotional. I think one day, I'll do another one of these posts with more in depth look at some of the other houses.

As promised, here are who I think Joel might be well suited to (I was going to include sun and moon combinations but I am tired, so you're only getting sun):

I think he'd do well with any fixed signs because they're stable and determined and I feel like he'd appreciate a partner like that. Fixed signs include Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius. I think he'd also do well with Earth signs, since I think he'd appreciate a grounded partner and someone that can match him and challenge him, and even direct him. Earth signs include: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn.

Also, as promised, I think Joel himself is probably an Earth sign. He's stubborn but grounded, he can be patient but also inflexible. I won't say which one exactly though, I need more time with that.

I made a post earlier talking about three directions I thought wyll's quest might take in at the end of act 1/early act 2 and I wanted to elaborate on it a little bit. The three directions I considered were a focus on monster hunting and what that meant, a focus on his disdain for politics, and a focus on his relationship with his father. I didn't particularly consider any one more likely than the other, they all just sort of arose out of what I saw as "points of tension" in wyll's character. I'm also not trying to say that these are the only options or the best options, I'm just laying out what I personally thought might happen and how it was going to work.

Focusing on the monster hunter thing - was karlach the first innocent person he had been sent to hunt? What does it mean to be a monster hunter in a world where many monsters have human intelligence? Especially because of what happened with Karlach, I thought this might become a throughline in his quest and tie further into the ways devils twist words and contracts to use and manipulate people. What they call a "bloodthirsty rampaging monster" might have understandable reasons for attacking a village that had, say, stolen its eggs to sell as spell ingredients. Or even if they didn't have such a sympathetic reason, it's absolutely possible that they could be reasoned with and asked to stop. With wyll's already existing sympathy for karlach and astarion, I thought that creating sympathy for less human looking "monsters" might be the next step.

I actually still think this would have been a pretty interesting questline. His act two quest could have centered around a monster he'd been sent to kill at the edge of the shadow-cursed lands, returning to that area and meeting there a mate, sibling, or child that had possibly changed its ways (great durge parallel here!). There could be a lot of questions about whether or not someone can change their nature, about what redemption means, about who is afforded second chances, all of that. I think by nature Wyll would lean towards letting them live, but a player character could push him down a darker path (a la Shadowheart). This would also feed well into Wyll making choices about his pact with mizora - if he kills the mate or sibling, leaning into the monster hunter and no hope of redemption thing then he would choose to keep his pact, saying that it gives him the power to protect people from monsters while perhaps also believing that there's no way for him to be saved, but if he chooses to let them live and broadens his mind and understanding he would choose to break his pact with mizora, citing the fact that she's lied to him repeatedly and how he doesn't want to bring more harm on innocents.

Focusing on the politics thing - wyll's comment about how "a Duke shakes hands with more monsters than he slays" is really fascinating because Duke is a political job and the "monsters" he's talking about are people. He was the son of a grand duke and was intended to follow in his footsteps, but this is the view he has of politics? That's kinda wild to me! I assumed we'd get some sort of politically involved quest once we got to the city where Wyll would have to get over his distaste for politics and challenge his view of other people as monsters and overall examine what it means to run a city or something along those lines.

Like I said, I assumed any quest line would focus on a situation where Wyll would either overcome his distaste for politics and learn to appreciate the difficulties of running a city when your opponents are people you can't just kill when they get in your way or have a "bad end" where he decided that he didn't care and was happy to use force on political opponents. (interestingly I think you can see some potential remnants of this in his speech about becoming grand duke where he says something along the lines of "no one could stand against him")

Focusing on his father - I felt like there was obviously a lot going on in that relationship and that it had to come back up! Wyll acted so sanguine and understanding about the whole banishment thing even though it seemed obvious (to me at least) that he was deeply hurt by it and in denial about it. I thought for sure that would come to a confrontation where Wyll would accept that he was actually hurt by this and that his father had done him wrong. This was further reinforced through act 1 and 2 by the repeated references to how terrible the flaming fist were and how they weren't what they used to be. Since Ulder was their commamder, I assumed that this was also meant to be a reflection on him and that he wasn't the perfect and heroic man Wyll idealized him as. Act 3 actually reinforced this for me with its constant examples of just how corrupt and incompetent the fist were. I really thought we were going to see some emotional payoff and reckoning here right up until we actually rescued ulder and it didn't happen.

I wasn't really sure what form this quest would take but I was very convinced it would happen. Like I said, all the comments about the fist in acts 1 and 2 had me convinced! There's so clearly tension there, with ulder having been unwilling to show any sense of understanding to his 17 year old son. I assumed that the quest might involve puncturing the "myth" of Ulder for Wyll and him starting to see his father as a human with flaws instead of idolizing him. I also really thought that there would be a dramatic confrontation!

So there we have it - places I thought Wyll's quest might go based on what I'd seen in act 1 and early act 2. I was very wrong indeed - two of the three things I thought might be main drivers never came up at all, and one of them ended up being straight up ignored. Ah well!

I have been turning over the question of how I would "fix" S2 - more conceptually than with intention at the moment - and more and more my conclusion is just scrap it entirely and go a different direction.

Like as much as I enjoyed 2x01 - 2x03 (maybe even 2x04 and 2x05, too) from an audience perspective (specifically as someone who enjoys darker content, toxic relationships, black humor, and the potential of generally fucked up plot beats) it kinda hinged a lot on my expectation that they were doing it with intent to deliver a satisfying story resolution in the end. I couldn't guess exactly how on the spot, but that's not really my problem as an audience member - I can just enjoy guessing along the journey until we get there.

Whereas looking back as a writer, struggling with the lack of resolution (successfully executed or even just projected), those episodes are just too many problems built into the foundation. I very rarely say this but I will agree with the antis that watching Edward go on a multi-phase apology tour to try and make amends to each character would be tonally a disaster to deal with and not particularly satisfying on a character level, either. I mean, I like Edward? I don't want his primary plotline being him getting kicked repeatedly and wallowing in guilt? But I also don't see a clean way to wrap up all that with perfunctory apologies and then behaving better in the future AND to sell any kind of found family, "these people will be celebrating at your wedding"-energy between Edward and the breakup boat crew. Not while treating any of them as mentally ok, at least.

Handwaving Frenchie's box is not actually funny at all if it's explicitly full of unaddressed traumatizing memories of a guy he works for / hangs out with on a daily basis?

I think I was right in my pre-S2 thinking that Kraken era needs to be predominantly violence directed toward people outside the crew, and while the remaining crew can be unhappy they probably shouldn't feel abused. I'm still not sure if Izzy's leg could be made to work with some context changes, but the offscreen additional toes lines definitely need to be struck out. Like, fucked up Kraken era could be interesting in more trauma focused fics that explored it as whump or darker adventure stories, but I don't think canon benefits from the harsh genre shift. Especially not if we want to keep forward movement for BlackBonnet as the main arc of the show.

There's just too much setup baggage on the route they chose, and I can't figure out a satisfying answer for what to do with it that doesn't require temporarily dropping the romance, the comedy, or both from this romcom 🤷‍♀️

Better to remove the problem at its source and just reimagine Kraken era entirely.

Imagine like human reader throughout Adrian’s lifespan dies over and over again, but with each new life they slowly shift into a more vampiric form. Time and time again, the two keep finding each other and with every death and life brought, the two could finally live out the rest of their life’s together for as long as they wish

AN: Hmmm interesting. Here's a thought or two of mine (longer than I expected. Feel free to send more of these asks because I kinda like the concept of writing these quick pieces. Hopefully shorter for the future ones.). Also very much unedited but I am impulsive af so here we go.

Part 2

TW: Blood, death, gore, possessive Adrian...

Your first meeting with Adrian had been when you were on the brink of your death in that lifetime. Lying on the icy unforgiving ground your blood seeps through the snow covered earth. Painting everything red. It had been an unfortunate fate where you met the other half of your soul as you bled through you wounds.

And Adrian too realized that. He held onto you as warmth left your body. He could not let go for days and sat there talking to you. He spoke of himself, his life, his likes, his dislikes but none replied.

He never gets to find out your likes or dislikes, your name, your hobbies. The only memory of you that remains with him is your fading breath.

He mourns for a loss he could not fathom overcoming. It felt like a declaration of fate. Like another wound that would mar his heart and soul for eternity.

He wanders forests and dark woods yearning for any sign of relief. Looking for an end. It is then that he meets you again. Or rather you come falling in his arms.

Perched on a tree's sturdy branch you flinch at the barest crunch of the leaves under his feet. It is fall when Adrian meets you and the forest floor is full of decaying leaves.

Startled by the noise you lose balance and Adrian unknowingly catches you even before he, himself can gather what's happening.

Your arms wrap around him and your face buries in the crook of his neck. The warmth of your breath next to his heart brings Adrian back to life.

He does not need the alignment of stars or prophecies to know its you. The darker hue of your eyes or the longer length of your hair cannot stop Adrian from recognizing you. How can they when he's been looking for you all along? Nothing in the world could have hidden you from him.

World comes to life and Adrian sheds away the bleak cloak of mourning.

Dressed in thick leathers and armed with a formidable bow you turn out to be huntress in that lifetime.

Adrian builds a life with you. A small hut by the edge of the forest where you both speak your vows and exchange the plainest rings from the village smith.

A simple life full of joy, love and peace. Time spent full of smiles and embraces.

Adrian lets go of his castle, of all the riches to be with you. Living in the small hut Adrian assumes the role of gardening in the small plot of land by your house. He cooks, he mends, he does all waiting for you as you hunt.

It comes to an end abruptly. It happens on a normal afternoon when you leave for the hunt. Adrian kisses you goodbye as he prepares the kitchen for the evening but you do not return. Neither does Adrian once he leaves to look for you.

He does not find much of you other than a disfigured leg left in the quiet forest. The rest of you is gone with the pack of wolves that devoured you.

Adrian does not mourn. Rage fills him as he hunts your killers. He does not care for the laws of jungle that you believed in. He kills the entire pack with his bare hands.

It is the familiar despair that greets Adrian this time. It is rage. Had he not given up on the wealth you would not have to hunt. It was his fault for letting you venture into the forest alone. He should have been more careful.

So, Adrian gathers all his wealth and becomes the Lord Dracula as he awaits your return. He would not let harm come your way. Not even the barriers of age would dare to part you this time. Adrian would make sure of that. He would find a way.

He looks for you. He tries to follow the tug of his heart. He for you in the forests and valleys. But he does not find you there. Instead, he finds you in the plague ridden camps of the city.

Your face is covered by faded linen as your brows furrow in concentration while cleaning up a withering youth. Not even the thunder and unrelenting rain break your focus.

Adrian stands there, dressed in his finery. A stark contrast to your own simple dress. He does not move even when the rain completely soaks his velvet cloak.

That night Adrian steals you away from the god-forsaken camp. He does so, in the middle of the night when you fall asleep to the tiredness of the hectic day.

He takes you to his castle. Away from the wild and the world that seems to intent on your separation. He inches closer to bite the unmarred column of your neck. His fangs dripping with the venom that would bind you to him for eternity.

He holds you tight. Your limbs locked in his arms to avoid any movement. It would be painful but Adrian would make it quick. He smells the slight lingering fragrance of mint as he moves closer.

Closing his eyes Adrian feels his teeth sink into your skin. You struggle in his arms but Adrian holds tight. Your blood fills his mouth. It is sweeter than any nectar.

The Dhampir did not care for blood. Adrian did not need it to survive so, he had avoided suffering of others but your blood is unlike anything ever. All the suffering and pain from the ages leaves his body with your mere taste.

He is lost in the rich taste of your blood when he first feels it. A burning sensation. At first he dismisses as his own reaction to blood but it isn't him...

Adrian's eyes flinch open and what greets him is the decaying column of your neck. Your skin blackened and burned. Your eyes unfocused and your heart still.

He notices it then the slightly pointed tips of your ears. A half-elven healer.

Surrounded by riches and comforts found rare in world Adrian loses you for a third time.

He does not allow himself the comfort of grief. Not even a tear. Adrian condemns himself of a life where he forbids himself from even a dream of you.

Not even death or whatever end awaits him would be enough penance.

Wandering mountains, seas, ruins, Adrian exists. He would no longer allow himself the luxury of even looking for you. He would not allow the fates to align your path to his.

He never stays in a place longer than a day.

So, he does not resist when the blade of a sword nicks his neck as he walks the unlit roads of a remote village. He does not even flinch when his own blood flows onto the blade.

A small part of his being looks forward the pain that would ease the burden of his own exile.

Warm breeze of a summer's night flows through the valley that he finds himself in. The blade buries into his skin. His blood now blooming on the sleeves of his shirt.

And then it is gone. Adrian staggers at the loss of the weight of the blade on his shoulder. "Now that we've repaid past dues would you turn back and hug your lover who has traveled past decade looking for you," Adrian collapses on his knees as your voice fills the silent night.

He does not find the courage to turn back. Nor does he find the strength to run away as he should have done.

In this lifetime you meet him in the form of his regrets. As a reminder. You meet him as a reflection of himself. A Dhampir.

You hold him close as the night carries the scent of the coy blooms.

You come to him forever. For long enough for you to take away all the pain, the yearning, the self-hatred.

Hey! So, I said I might make a list of Fire Emblem modding links, so here it is! Before anything, be sure you have a hacked 3DS so you can mod your games. You can load mods directly onto a hacked 3DS OR you can use a hacked 3DS to dump your games and play them on an emulator.

If you haven't hacked your 3DS yet, follow this guide to do so! It's easy and super safe!

As for if you want to emulate, you can download the citra emulator here. Just be aware that the emulator can be demanding and not all games function great (all the Fire Emblem games are functional, though).

Now, as for game modding, here are a few of my favorite things to use as well as some interesting mods others enjoy. Feel free to share mods you enjoy and I'll add them to this list.

General Modding

Paragon - This in and of itself is not a mod. However, if you're interested in dipping your toes in trying to create your own mods, this is a good starting point! This tool provides you with a friendly user interface to mess with the code of the game and create your own custom mods (don't worry, you don't need to know how to code).

Fire Emblem Awakening

Unofficial Gay Awakening - As the name says it adds gay supports in Awakening. I can't really add anything here.

Project Thabes - This is an overhaul of Awakening, akin to a sort of remix. The idea is fixing up some issues with story, rebalancing, and remixing maps. Definitely an interesting project to check out if you want a fresh experience with the game.

Awakening HD - This is just mod to upscale textures. Really meant for people playing the game on citra, not hardware.

Twin Morgans - Y'know. If you want double the Morgan. :)

Reverse Recruitment Order - Excluding Chrom, Robin, and Lucina, all units are obtained in reverse order. Something fun to mix up your game.

Fates Stances - If you came to really love the stance system in Fates, good news! This mod implements the stance system into Awakening. Yeah, it's less broken, but way more fun.

Gender-Lock Removal - You want male pegasus knights and female barbarians? Here they are. Need I say more?

Fire Emblem Fates

Unofficial Gay Fates - It's as the name says: a mod to add gay supports to Fates. Though it's not just gay, it also generally adds additional supports between characters.

Ignis - This is a Fates randomizer that allows you to customize your own experience. This can randomize recruitment order, chest/village items, skills, classes, stats, and so on. I've been using this for years, so I can vouch for its fun and stability.

Fates HD - Just a mod to upscale textures. Meant for people playing the game on citra, not hardware.

Before Fates - This mod is currently a work in progress, but it's meant to expand the backstory in Fates. While it's incomplete, it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Fates Retranslation+ - If you kinda hate the translation of Fates, good news! This mod retranslates the entire game to better match the original Japanese version. It also adds some minor patches, but the idea of this mod is to fix the English translation.

Princess Personals - Legendary weapons for the princesses. Because they earned it. :)

Non-Binary Corrin - For all my non-binary pals out there, someone made a mod to make all references to Corrin gender-neutral. (Note: the mod creator is remaking the mod due to some issues.)

Playable Lilith - Do you love Lilith? Sad that she's stuck being killed off in routes and is otherwise unplayable? Well, this mod adds her as a playable character. Do it for her.

Face-Lift - This mod does some edits to characters to update things like skin tones and eye colors to look more natural/better match parents (like giving Benny darker skin rather than grey skin). It has a regular version for hardware and HD version for citra users who like having the HD mod.

Fire Emblem Echoes

Route Swap - Just a funky little mod that swaps the two parties. So now Celica and crew are on Alm's journey and vice versa.

Installing Mods

3DS

Assuming your 3DS is hacked, you should be using luma to mod games. Once you have your mod files, installing them is extremely easy. Load up your SD card and go into luma > titles and create a folder with the corresponding title id to your game.

Once you have a folder for your game, drop the mod files within (remember to unzip them, and they should be a romfs folder). If done correctly, it should look something like this.

There's one final step before you run your modded game, though! Reinsert your SD card in your 3DS and then hold SELECT while powering the console on. The luma config menu should come up. Select "Enable game patching" then press START to save.

You only ever have to do this luma step once. So once you've enable game patching, you can freely switch out mods on your 3DS and they'll run automatically. If you want to disable mods, either delete them from your SD card or disable game patching.

Citra

Just like with hardware, modding games on citra is extremely easy. All you have to do is open citra, right click the game you want to mod, and click "Open Mods Location" from the menu like below.

This will create/open a mod folder for the title you selected. Just like on the 3DS, all you have to do is insert your mod folder here. It should be inside a romfs folder like below.

If you did everything correctly, then your mods should take effect when you next run your game on citra.

I really like your theory about the shirts, and I do agree that Lisa probably does have resentment towards her father for the situation but personally I think the resentment is more in the context of hating him for not being there when it happened, for remarrying so fast, for moving her away from her home and school, for neglecting her emotionally and not supporting her, for favoring his new step daughter over her while she's dealing with all of this, etc. I don't think its to imply that the actual murder itself is his fault or that he did it but rather Lisa's inability to move on is his fault. I do think the clothing is a very very important part of this film but in a slightly different way. In the scene where we see the killer, he's wearing a very dark sweater with some light patches, which I feel like just match the aesthetic of the bride of Frankenstein mask. Overall, his outfit is very dark and moody which is a harsh contrast from Lisa and her mom in this scene. We see them wearing very bright, light, colorful clothing which goes hand in hand with how we see Lisa being happy and playful and laughing and talking with her mom. Lisa obviously was much more healthy and well adjusted and had a much easier time connecting with people before this happened. In the rest of the movie, we see the dad, Taffy, Janet, and most of the town dressed in very bright and colorful, for lack of a better term "normal" clothing. As well as the entire house is ridiculously colorful and bright, bordering on a Lisa Frank sticker pack.

I think this bright colorful aesthetic all around her and her dad being a part of it is symbolism for how they want Lisa to be a happy, bubbly, regular girl and completely move on and forget her trauma. She isn't given any opportunity to process her trauma, talk about it, feel it, etc. She's expected to get over it and go back to being completely normal. I think this is why she's drawn to Michael Trent, him and his friend (the other goth girl who's name I forgot) are the only people in the town who aren't phased by her differences and he shows some interest even in her weird dark moodiness. Throughout the movie, we obviously see Lisa's style choices become darker and moodier, creeping closer and closer to the aesthetic of the killer rather than the family and the town. One detail I really love is how the Creature actually encourages her to wear the darker outfits and absolutely adores every aspect of her, dark or light. I think Lisa's change in aesthetic is to show how not being able to process her trauma cause her to internalize it and become it. The clothing is a part of her becoming the axe murder. I think a big theme of this movie is that when trauma and abuse aren't processed it turns into a cycle instead. I've seen a lot of people say that we see Lisa become herself when she meets the Creature and starts dressing and acting differently, and in a way I think she does, but not her old self like everyone wants her to be. It's too late for her to ever get back there. Like she says "time is the thing that takes you further away from the place where you were happy". The opportunity to heal properly was taken from her. But she is able to find a new self and that new self is built out of her trauma. The Creature sees her for her, wounds and broken bits included and loves every part of her and listens to her and doesn't try to stop her from being dark and crazy he just lets her exist and absolutely adores her and so much of their love story, for me, revolves around him being the one person who lets her just exist and doesn't expect anything from her. This part might be a little bit of a reach but I think the name of the movie and the wax rubbing she does on the grave is another symbol of this whole thing. The name is a play on "Lisa Frank", representing the bright colorful neon vibe that they want her to be a part of but it ends with "enstein", almost mocking the first part like "she's Lisa Frank...enstein." She'll never be what they expect of her because there's this trauma following her around. In the scene, you can even see the two parts of the name are separated and she's adding on the enstein part to hint at this in a foreshadowing way.

I feel like I explained all this terribly but long story short Lisa dark and moody because she is trauma/axe murder now, town and house and family bright and colorful because they're SO normal and want her to be normal like them, dad bright and colorful because he is part of problem
