Summary: Efnisien ap Wledig is an omega born into an all-alpha family. Abandoned by his birth mother and raised by his aunt, he is subjected to a lifetime of medical experimentation and brainwashing and believes himself to be an alpha. But the experiments begin to fail, and he is abandoned yet again to an Omega Rehabilitation Facility, where the family expects he will be retrained into the ‘perfect omega’ and placed in an arranged marriage, or be eliminated if this is no longer possible.
The Facility don’t know about the experiments, and Efnisien doesn’t even know why he’s in there in the first place, since he’s an alpha…isn’t he? One thing’s for certain, he definitely doesn’t need an alpha companion, no matter what the staff at the facility seem to think.
Underline the Black - Chapter 70 - Overcoming @ AO3
In which Efnisien ventures beyond the gates of Hillview for the first time, despite his terror, and Gary employs a variety of techniques to keep him distracted from his fear, including finally opening up a bit more about his past.

@gareththegreat : headbutts danny's arm for attention
He peeks the shape of Gareth moving in with his peripherals and instinctively leans away to accomodate and make room for.. whatever he's trying to do. It's apparently the wrong move. The change absolutely bungles headbutt momentum. He's forced to watch, in utter bafflement, as Gareth's forehead connects with his bicep in slower motion than it was supposed to.
"I- ....ʷʰᵃᵗ."
He raises a hand to.. pet him? Is this supposed to be a hug? The appendage hangs in the air above Gareth cautiously, like one would regard an ambiguously mannered dog, while he tries to decipher intent and suitable reaction. One never knows, with the other man. Face the pinnacle of solemn prudence, Daniel buries his fingers in Gareth's curls, tentative and unsure. It warrants another pause.
"...You have leaves in your hair."

I'm joining the whumptober challenge! Can't promise they'll all be yym, but this first one is!
Whumptober day 1: unconventional restraints
It wasn't supposed to be like that, of course it wasn't. But the Snake (root of all evil, monster of all the ages, etc. etc.) changed many things.
This prison wasn't designed for someone like Boya.
When Boya, Jingyun's youngest master, their best hunter, their representative in the fight against Evil, arrived home, the alarms went off. Every one of them. The only reason he made it as close as he did to the place he called home, is because Qingming (kind, unthinking, gentle Qingming) opened a portal for Boya, so he wouldn't have to walk all those many, many stairs while wounded.
Boy had protested, of course. An unknown portal, so close to their gates? The guard might sound the alarm, and cause unnecessary concern. Still, the steps were many, and his legs didn't enjoy carrying him for more than minutes at a time. Being able to fly, however briefly, seemed to have changed gravity's grasp on him. That, or being mostly dead for a short time. Boya preferred not to dwell on that option.
So Boya relented, and asked for the portal, as far away from the front gate as Qingming could manage without throwing Boya out over the mountain steps.
And Qingming delivered, because as annoying as the man is, as impatient and joking and... many things, Qingming is, but he is definitely a Master in his own right. Boya believed be always was, but after the battle against He Shouyue there can be no doubt about that.
So Boya got his portal, and safe delivery home, to report and to rest. Except that is when he set of the alarm spells. He, Boya, did that. Not Qingming's unknown magic, not the sudden appearance of a portal that produced their shixiong. The portal closed peacefully, quietly. The guards blinked in surprise, but portals are not unknown arrays, and this one brought the guards' shixiong back.
As soon as the portal closed, as soon as Boya stepped across the threshold of the only home he ever had, the alarm for *invaders*, and the one for *spirit possession (evil)* began to sound. Shortly after that they were joined by the high bells of *demons inside the wall*, until every tower in Jingyun was manned and ready against– against armies, the Snake itself if they had to, if the rumours of its defeat proved false. In that cacophony it was quiet at the gate. There was no one else. No invaders, demons, or seemingly possessed enemies.
Only Boya.
Which is why he was here, now, in this prison without bars, held by magic and spells that should not be able to bind a mortal man.
Because *he* set off those warning bells, all of them.
He knew this only after he woke, after seeing where he was now: in their prison rooms, the cells Jingyun reserved for the largest, fiercest demons.
On the floor were great binding circles, spells upon spells laid out in permanent, purified stone, and paint that cannot be erased except by digging up the whole floor. Boya knew this because he helped lay these spells, these stone circles. Any human can safely step across the threshold, though it is inadvisable to do so while the circle is occupied. The same cannot be said for a spirit or demon.
These have been Jingyun's greatest asset, and a small version, an incomplete circle, has long been buried in the gate's threshold. That connected to the alarms, all the alarms Boya heard... That he set off
Boya tried, some time ago, to step across the circle, the way he had always been able to. Confidently, foolishly, in front of his elders, in front of all those who raised him, who taught him everything, Boya collided with the invisible walls of the many arrays that make up the circle.
He was trapped– trapped in a prison not meant for him, trapped inside the walls his own younger self helped build. And for what?
Boya had no answer.
The temple elders had no answer.
Boya is no longer human.
