#I’m more focused on Usopp right now because he’s just my favorite but I honestly feel this way about all of the straw hats

I may be a bit insufferable because. OOOH BOY do I have a lot of thoughts about some of the choices made in the live action. Thoughts that I actually want to write out and share. Especially concerning Usopp… For now I need to fully process what I just watched and then watch through it again!

☕️ Steph, my good clown, can I get your sexy opinion on your favorite battles in the shonen series (plural) that you have read/watched?
The clown has arrived with her answer! Thank you for such an interesting topic! It was hard picking out my top 3 favorites since a lot of my favorites are great in their own right, but I think I’m satisfied with what I chose.
For anyone who’s interested, here are my other favorite shounen battles that sadly did not make it to the top 3:
Itadori and Nobara vs. Curse brothers (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Maki vs. Mai (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Gon vs. Pitou (Hunter x Hunter)
Deku vs. Muscular (Boku no Hero Academia)
All Might vs. All for One (Boku no Hero Academia)
Luffy vs. Usopp (One Piece)
Gaara vs. Rock Lee (Naruto)
Zenitsu vs. Spider Brother (Kimetsu no Yaiba)
Tanjirou vs. Rui (Kimetsu no Yaiba)
Now let’s get to my top 3 favorite shounen battles! (Under the cut!)
3. Maki vs. Miwa (Jujutsu Kaisen)
For my third favorite shounen battle, I chose the fight between Maki and Miwa during the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc! What I like most about this fight was the set up, spectacular choreography, and interesting characterization.
Before jumping into the fight, we are introduced to Miwa and Mai talking about Maki’s strength as a Jujutsu sorcerer. Here, Mai is downplaying Maki’s ability to fight which leads Miwa to underestimate Maki as a result. We then cut to Miwa being absolutely overwhelmed by Maki’s attacks. This short setup helped give impact to Maki’s true strength and abilities to not only Miwa, but the audience as well. The fake out was a nice surprise since we haven’t seen Maki fight thus far.
Tumblr media
The choreography throughout the entire fight was absolutely marvelous. The use of perspective and slow-motion helped give certain attacks more weight as well as how the attacks look in a first-person perspective. We not only see how overwhelmed Miwa was, but also how focused and ruthless Maki can be. Despite Miwa being an antagonist due to her team’s order to kill Itadori, I find it amusing that we the audience end up sympathizing with Miwa in the end.
Tumblr media
I also liked how the environment was used during the fight. The transition from the forest to the small stream down below when Maki literally kicked Miwa off a cliff was a nice change of scenery. The visuals of the water due to the character’s movement and weight was also a nice detail. I won’t be surprised if all the budget went into the water effects.
Tumblr media
The fight between Maki and Miwa was incredibly one-sided where Maki seemed to have the upper hand for most of the fight and Miwa had no choice but to be on the defense. We can see how overwhelmed Miwa was due to underestimating Maki from the beginning. If Miwa was warned ahead of time, she may have had a better chance of standing against Maki. However, due to her trust over her teammate’s words, she ended up being blind-sighted. I really enjoyed being inside Miwa’s head for the majority of the fight. We can tell that Miwa is doing the best of her abilities, but just can’t beat Maki’s talent and quick instinct. The fight overall highlight’s Miwa’s weakness of overthinking her next move. We only heard Maki’s thinking process briefly after Miwa activated her simple domain, but she’s very quick to adapt and be unpredictable. The characterization in this small fight was very fun to watch!
Tumblr media
Overall, this may be a small-scale fight in comparison to other major ones within the anime and manga, but that doesn’t mean it should be overlooked. Having a grand spectacle of a fight doesn’t make it the “best fight”. Sometimes, a short, but well-choreographed fight that makes good use of the environment can go a long way for me.
2. The Black Bulls vs. Vetto (Black Clover)
For my second favorite battle in shounen, I chose the black bulls vs. Vetto during the Water Temple arc. I’m not sure if it’s because I don’t watch enough shounen anime, but I felt like this was the first battle where a group of characters worked together to defeat an antagonist. I’m just so used to watching 1v1s, or if we’re really stretching it 2v1s, in shounen that seeing an actual group use teamwork was very refreshing for me to watch. Something to note about the difference in the manga and anime was that while the final battle against Vetto within the anime had Gauche, Charmy, and Grey join in, in the manga it was mainly Asta, Finral, and Vanessa. Despite the small difference, the fact that most of the members of the Black Bulls took a chance to fight Vetto and showcased their fighting abilities was a sight to see.
Before we get to the final fight against Vetto, if we don’t count Yami’s finishing blow at the very end, I really enjoyed Luck, Magna, and most especially Noelle’s attack. I liked how we got to see each character use their strongest attack and the unpredictability of who’s going to finish Vetto off throughout the fight. I was hype seeing Luck and Magna’s combo magic for the first time, but was surprised to see how ineffective it was to Vetto. This helped give us an idea of the power difference a normal magic knight may have in opposition to an eye of the midnight sun, which is why when Noelle gained an attack spell, Sea Dragon’s Roar, and did the most damage to Vetto, that basically hinted the potential Noelle has as a strong magic knight. But surprisingly, Noelle’s attack wasn’t the climax of the fight because that’s when Asta, Finral, and Vanessa joined in and worked together against Vetto. Now it was this specific teamwork that really made it for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I love most about this team dynamic was how each of them had a significant role in winning the fight. Asta had the physical strength and most offensive attacks, Vanessa’s string magic helped propel Asta into any direction, and Finral’s spatial magic was utilized to transport Asta in any location. Both Vanessa and Finral helped give Asta the upper hand by making his attacks more unpredictable and adaptive to Vetto’s animalistic magic. It was impressive seeing Asta attack Vetto in different directions and dodging his attacks. But just when we thought they had a chance of defeating Vetto, he became a much bigger threat when he began to read through their attacks and successfully caught and broke Asta’s arms. And just when we think that Asta can’t fight without his arms, Asta reinforces his schtick of not giving up, igniting hope into his teammates. And with their final push and hint towards Asta’s devil powers, Vetto was finally defeated thanks to their determination and teamwork!
Tumblr media
This fight had a nice combination of surprise, hope, and despair! But what makes this my second favorite fight was solely because of how each of the members had a moment to shine within the fight. There wasn’t an instance where a character was just watching and that makes me very happy! An overall great fight in Black Clover!
Tumblr media
1. Gon vs. Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txl2imn11bM&ab_channel=CrunchyrollCollection
For my ultimate favorite shounen battle, I chose Gon vs Hisoka from the Heavens Arena arc. If there’s one word to describe this fight, it would be “tension”. What I liked most about the beginning of this fight was how no word of dialogue was exchanged between the characters. The background music was ambient with most of the attention given to the sound of movement and grunts, which only makes you feel tense throughout the exchange.
In this particular fight, Gon was very quick and light on his feet while fighting Hisoka. There were even moments where it looked like he was levitating for a few seconds when throwing punches at Hisoka which shows how fast his attacks were. I liked how we see Gon’s thought process through his actions where he’d try multiple strategies to attack Hisoka. At first, he would try and do a barrage of punches towards Hisoka’s face, but then gain some distance when his attacks fail and then face Hisoka head on again. And while Gon is struggling to get the first hit, Hisoka is just observing Gon with a smile on his face and enjoying every bit of it. And it wasn’t until Hisoka surprised Gon with a punch that we finally took a breather. It was an intense fight right off the bat!
But my enjoyment of the fight doesn’t stop there. During the first exchanges within the fight, Gon’s attempts were very straightforward and relied mostly on his strength. But during their second exchange, we can see that Gon learned from his prior attempt and decided to use his wits. Instead of attacking Hisoka head first, he cleverly used his environment to gain the upper hand and finally punched Hisoka in the face! Hisoka may have underestimated Gon from the beginning, but I still thought it was amazing how Gon managed to pull that off! I’m going to be honest, I was not expecting Gon to actually be strategic and pull out the tiles off the floor to block Hisoka’s sight. It was so satisfying to see this type of development from him which makes it a highlight of this fight.
Honestly, this was this part of the fight that makes this my ultimate favorite, but that doesn’t mean what happens afterwards was nothing interesting. Hisoka’s nen abilities were very fun to watch and very unpredictable! I feel like Gon was meant to lose from the start since Hisoka’s fighting style is very adaptive against Gon’s more simple approach. Overall, an amazing fight! I highly recommend watching the fight for yourself!

Valentine’s Day Special #14
One Piece World: No Specific Time (No Spoilers)
“She/Her” 💙with Sanji for about 6 months requested by musicmarble
It felt so nice. His fingers had barely brushed against her waist, but her skin still tingled just from the memory and her cheeks burned. His soft grip against her flesh, a part of her body that she would consciously hide, even when she would dance, felt warm and she wanted nothing more than to stay in his grip.
“H….”
It didn’t last long, much to her disappointment, as the “threat” that was her captain and the fellow sniper had run past. If she hadn’t been pulled back, she would have been trampled. Well, that’s what Sanji had said, although his hand was still on her waist. He brought his hand back to his side, much to her dismay, coughing into his closed fist before stepping away from her.
“(Y/N)...” The soft smile that was directed specifically at her had made her heart race even now, 20 minutes after they had interacted. Suddenly, that warmth that filled her body was replaced with a bitter cold and a frown painted her face. As soon as the blonde stepped away, his attention had flitted to the orange haired navigator, who shouted a compliment of the drink in her hand, and he was off to get her a refill, happy as can be.
“Hey…” Why had it bothered her so much? It was so funny and, honestly, kind of adorable in the beginning. When she joined the crew, the attention Sanji gave her was surprising and, yet, flattered. His comments were the only times that she felt actually beautiful, even belly dancing hadn’t done that and she had danced for years. Lately, the comments and admiration to women that weren’t her… started to hurt. It didn’t make any sense! Sanji was just her crewmate! He was a phenomenal cook, a great fighter, and a kind man. He always made her feel better, making her laugh or checking on her. He made sure that everyone was fed. He was so focused on the crew eating that she often worried about when he would eat. Not to mention how handsome he was. Calloused hands that were still so gentle, blonde hair, soft eyes, not to mention toned legs-
“(Y/N)!” She jumped, her fingers releasing the arrow she had been pulling against her bow string. Her eyes widened as the arrow pierced through the air, the speed of it causing a whistle to fill the space. Usopp yelped and the man would have been skewered if his reflexes hadn’t made him dive into the ground. A loud crack came from where the arrow hit the wall instead of her target, adding a punch to her pride along with the embarrassment. She dropped her bow and scrambled over to her sniping buddy, holding her hands out to the man as he got to his knees.
“I’m so sorry, Usopp!” She cried, embarrassment causing her face to heat up. He took her hands and, with her help, stood up before patting the top of his head where the arrow whizzed past. Giving himself a once over, he sighed in relief and looked at her.
“What’s up with you lately?” He looked back at the target and raised his thumb to it, closing one eye and sticking his tongue out, before slowly moving to where the arrow actually hit. “You’re kind of off there. I’d say… a foot or so.” The lilt in his voice made her groan and she hid her face in her hands.
“Don’t rub it in, alright? I was training and I just started thinking… I guess I got lost in my thoughts a little…” She murmured, lowering her hands and going over to the pillar.
“Oh~ Can I guess about what?”
“Sure. Might as well drown in further embarrassment.” She glanced at him over her shoulder, seeing him already grasping his chin in thought. She turned back to the task at hand; trying to get arrow out of the damn pillar. She gripped the spine of the arrow and, after some struggling, she was able to pull it out of the woodwork. She grimaced. Franky would not be happy about that, she thought as she held the arrow in her hands.
“Ah! It’s about Sanji again!” At the sniper’s words, the arrow snapped in her hands and the blush she just got down came back with full force, making her feel it even at her ears. “Oh ho~ I… hit the target.” He quickly ducked again when the arrow, now in two pieces, was thrown at him. Her face was turned away and, although her face was burning already, the burning was more prominent in her eyes. She was tired. If there was anyone she could rely on, other than the object of her attention, it was her sniping buddy.
“I don’t know what’s going on with me… He’s… He’s always ogling other girls, to the point that he can’t fight sometimes. Always bending backwards just to see a woman look in his direction! It was funny in the beginning and I didn’t find anything wrong with it! But… lately…” She stuttered, hand going to her chest and gripping her shirt. “It’s been so painful lately… I want his compliments- No… his attention on me… When he does something for Nami or Robin, I just feel so upset… I feel like I’m going crazy…” She rubbed her stinging eyes and she wanted nothing to do more than to go to the girl’s room and cocoon herself in a blanket.
She jumped slightly as Usopp placed his hand on her shoulder after he stepped forward. She cupped her own face so she could see him clearly when she looked up at him. Despite her disheveled appearance, he had a soft smile on his face. His free hand raised and jabbed at her forehead, making her yelp and pout at him.
“Hey, why-!”
“You’re so dense. You like him. You know, ‘like like.’ That pain you’re feeling, well, that’s jealousy.” Her eyes went wide as his words hit her like a train. It all made sense now. Usopp watched the wheels in her head turn and Usopp jabbed her forehead again. “Earth to (Y/N). Stay grounded here.”
Her face was red and she gripped her head, groaning at the sudden racing in her heart and annoyance. “I didn’t realize it but you did… Was I really that obvious?” She whimpered softly.
“I’ve got a good eye. It comes with the job of being a sniper.” He teased before crossing his arms over his chest. “But… you know what the best way to get through this is?” (Y/N) snapped her head up at him and nodded, clutching her hands together in front of her.
“What?! W-What is it?!”
“You. Tell. Him.” He emphasized each word and held his hand up when her mouth opened. “Next week is Valentine’s Day. It’s a perfect opportunity to confess. When you confess, it’ll stop you from getting hurt when you see him.”
“... But what if he rejects me?” She whimpered, clutching at the hem of her shirt.
“Well… what if he doesn’t?” They both stared at each other for a while before Usopp smiled at her. “You got this, (Y/N).” He pointed his thumb at himself. “You’ve got your sniper bud on your side.”
She took a breath and, despite the clenching in her stomach, there was a warmth that spread across her chest.
“Thank you, Usopp…”
She put training aside for the day and, with the help of her sniper buddy, came up with a plan for the next day.
~
It was nerve wracking. (Y/N) decided on coming up with a dance for Valentine’s Day. She practiced for the next couple of days, reassuring her crew mates that her surprise was worth all the secrecy. The last few days had only confirmed Usopp’s suspicions when Sanji would bring her snacks and drinks with little notes of encouragement. Not even hours of practice could make her heart race as much as his little notes did. She would clutch them to her chest before folding them carefully and putting them away, going back to practicing with a new vigor. By the end of the week, she had fully embraced her feelings for the cook and, even though her nerves were through the roof, she was committed to telling him.
The deck was decorated with simple red, white, and pink ribbons with some balloons attached at the end of some. The crew was already indulging in the food and music that flowed from their musician’s violin. (Y/N) was peeking out from the door that led to below deck, fingers gripping the wood as she looked at the other members. She could see that the food was nearly gone and that everyone had moved on to dancing and enjoying Brook’s music. She clutched the den den mushi in her hands before giving herself a once over. She wore one of her favorite outfits that, coincidentally, was the same color that Sanji would be if he were a color; a blue open shoulder fitted top that cut off right under her chest, a long matching dark blue skirt with colorful feather like designs on the bottom, and, to top it all off, a light blue belt that fitted around the top of the skirt. Her free hand smoothed the fabric of her belly cover, a soft sigh leaving her lips at the small comfort that the fabric provided. Glancing out at the crew once again, she noticed that the blonde wasn’t on deck with the others, making her peek out further.
“My dear (Y/N)-swan~ Why are you hiding over here?” She squeaked and turned her head to look at the blonde that slid in right by her side. His smile made her clutch the den den mushi in her hand and her blood rushed into her cheeks. At her silence, he tilted his head and took the cigarette away from his mouth. “I haven’t seen you all morning. Have you eaten?” At that, he glanced over at the table and he tensed up. “(Y/N)-swan! You haven’t eaten, have you?! Don’t you worry! I’ll make you a meal fit for a queen and I apologize for not noticing earlier! Give me one moment-”
“No!” (Y/N) stepped out from her hiding spot fully, grasping the man’s hand as he had pivoted on his foot to walk away. When he turned to face her again, both of their faces were now beet red. She because his calloused hand felt so nice against her own and he because he got a good look at what she was wearing.
“Wow, (Y/N)-swan… You look-”
“Please don’t go into the kitchen,” she stuttered out. “I… I’m going to dance right now and… it’s dedicated to y-you…” She swore that she could see steam coming out from the top of his head. They stayed quiet once again before he put the cigarette back in his mouth. He squeezed her hand and a bright smile almost blinded her.
“I’ll watch every second, sweet (Y/N). I would wish you good luck but your talent needs no luck.” At his words, she became a flustered mess. She shakily excused herself, hesitating a bit before letting his hand go. Lifting her skirt a bit to jog over to Usopp, who was grinning at her. She placed the den den mushi in his hand and let him figure out the technicalities.
Her crew cheered for what was to come but she closed her eyes to take a breath, confidence rising. The music, a recording that she had saved even before joining the crew, started playing and she opened her eyes to face her audience. Her movements followed the beats, shimmying and hips jutting, throughout the music and the fluttering in her stomach earlier only enhanced her confidence. She struck a final pose as the music ended, the crew cheering as she struggled to catch her breath. Usopp gave her a thumbs up when she took a bow. When she stood straight again, her eyes couldn’t help but drift over to a certain man in the corner of the deck. Her eyes widened as she realized that he was running up to her. Before she could process what was happening, he had scooped her in his arms, eliciting a yelp from her. Instead of tensing up, she melted into his embrace and wrapped her arms around him, feeling him squeeze her. She could feel his breath against her hair and the warmth that emitted from him made her feel like it was a dream.
“Sweet (Y/N)... I’d like to make you a meal and confess something to you as well.” Her heart was racing against her chest but she felt better at feeling his heart going as fast (if not faster) than hers.

Okay so I day dream, A LOT. A pretty good chunk of it about my crush and tend to zone out. So could I get a scenario where Sanji, Usopp, and Zoro notice their crush zoning out a lot and confront them, then their crush ends up confessing to them? Thanks, I absolutely love your work~
Black Leg Sanji: He was in love. Sanji was known for easily falling for people but with you it was completely different. His feelings of enamor for you never seemed to disappear or dissolve; in fact, they actually inflated to enormous lengths since he had met you. He thought it was the same admiration that he had for Nami-swan and Robin-chwan but you were much different. When it came to you, he didn’t have to take you a drink because you were right there in the kitchen with him. He found himself having a warmth in his chest whenever you joined him in the kitchen. When you looked over his shoulder and asked him questions on cooking, he felt like he could melt right into his shoes.
His favorite thing about you though is your cute expression when you daydreamed. When you would join him in the kitchen and he was just waiting for something to boil or something mundane, he would glance at you and found you daydreaming. You would lean on your palm and stare at the wall across from yourself and eventually your lips would tilt up at a particular thought and he would find himself admiring your serene expression. Yeah, he had it bad.
He had his back to the door while he was cooking dinner. He heard the door swing open and he knew who it was even without turning around.
“Sanji~ What are you making?” He heard your sweet voice ask, getting louder as you walked closer. You smiled and he stopped stirring to look at you, hands clutching together and his pupils turned into little hearts.
“I’m making dinner, (Y/N)-swan~! It’s a new recipe that I’m trying but it’s just a lot of stirring so far.” You hummed as you looked over the pot, making his heart flutter at how close you suddenly got.
“I see. Well, mind if I keep you company?” He smiled, trying to calm his racing heart.
“I could never mind, (Y/N)-swan~” He swore he spotted a blush on your cheeks but pushed the hope away as quickly as it came. You sat down at your usual spot and, again, he found himself glancing over at you. You were as beautiful as ever and he found himself sighing every time he glanced at you.
He was amazed at how quickly and deeply you would daydream. Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper had run in 3 times and he kicked them out 3 times, yet you were still in your same daydream state. He put the stew to simmer and decided to sit down across from you and see how long it would take for you to notice him. He leaned forward on the table and mimicked your position, smiling as he took in your features. Was this weird? Maybe but it’s just to figure out how long you would take to notice him!... Yeah, that’s what it was. He noticed that you were smiling again and wondered what you could be thinking about that brought out that smile. After a couple of minutes, he stood up and leaned over so that his arms rested against the wooden table and he was much more closer to you this time. He smiled at the glazed look over your eyes and gently tapped the table.
“(Y/N)-swan~” At the call of your name, he could see that, after you blinked, your eyes seemed to refocus on him and your cheeks were suddenly shaded a red hue. You looked even cuter! He wouldn’t say it out loud since you would most likely be embarrassed so he decided to just grin back at you. The smile that had momentarily disappeared came back and your cheeks seemed to redden even more. Cute~ Before he could even question, what you were thinking or smiling about, you had dropped your hand from your palm to the table and pushed yourself up so you were leaning forward as well.
When did his vision get blurry? Were his pupils shaking? Was it just him or did you get closer? He couldn’t even let out a squeak as you leaned forward the rest of the way and brushed your lips against his so lightly that he was sure that he could have imagined it. When you pulled back, he was suddenly off the bench and on the ground, laying on his side.
“Sanji!” He faintly heard your voice but all he could actually process was what you had done. Was his nose bleeding? That would be embarrassing! Not in front of you! Oh and there you were know, kneeling next to him and shaking his shoulder. He felt the lightheadedness return but also a sense of bliss filled him at the same time. What an exhilarating feeling! Maybe he could tell you his feelings when he gets over the kiss (more like cool down from it) and is more composed.
Roronoa Zoro: You didn’t really notice when you’d daydream, it just happened sometimes. The crew members would tell you that you do it a lot and they often have to snap you out of it. You were sitting on deck with your legs crossed and your elbow resting on your knee, your face resting against your palm. If anyone were to pass by at the moment, they would notice how your eyes were glazed over.
You were used to daydreaming and you were even teased by your crew because you tended to answer honestly when you would space out. You could sit there for hours in your thoughts and the path your thoughts went were never organized but, lately, it seemed like your thoughts always ended up back to a certain swordsman on your crew. Yeah, he was blunt and cold sometimes but you had always admired him. That admiration turned into romantic feelings and you found yourself pining over the green haired man. You hadn’t been on the crew as long as some of the members but you had noticed the small actions that he tended to do to show that he cared when no one noticed; like how little sleep he gets because of his heightened senses in case of danger or the way he glanced over at everyone during battle and stepped in during dire moments.
You were so lost in thought that you didn’t even realize when someone had joined you out on the deck and stood right next to your sitting form.
“What are you doing?” You faintly heard, still too lost in your pining for the swordsman to actually focus in.
“Thinking.”
“About?”
“Zoro.” You hadn’t even realized the mumble that slipped out of your mouth. The view in front of you was suddenly obscured and it made you blink. When you focused in on the figure that was crouching in front of you, a blush made its way up your neck to the tips of your ears. Your eyes met with the gaze of the man that had been the center of your thoughts for ages and you could feel your body stiffen. Now that you thought about it… What had you just said in your state that made him look at you like that? Unbeknownst to you, if you squinted, you could see a light blush on his cheeks.
“You do that a lot?” You cleared your throat in a sad attempt to push away the blush on your face.
“Do what?” His eye broke contact with you for a second before meeting your gaze again.
“Think,” he started, leaning back on his heels so that he wasn’t so close to you anymore, relieving you but also making you sulk internally, “about me.” Your cheeks flared up darker than you even thought was possible for you and ducked your head away from his intense gaze. At your slight nod, you could see from the corner of your eye that he flinched slightly.
“Y-You could say that… It’s only natural for someone to think about their c-crush...” You tried to say cooly but you cursed at your own nervousness for making you stutter; but you did congratulate yourself for the moment of bravery. Silence filled the space between the two of you before you heard shuffling. He sat down next to you with his legs outstretched enough so your thighs were brushing against each other. Even though you were simmering in your own embarrassment, he just leaned back against the railing with his arms behind his head and his eyes closed. You gathered your courage to look at him and a fluttering sensation filled your chest when he forced a yawn to hide the blush on his cheeks, much more noticeable than the initial blush. The two of you sat in silence once again that you took as awkward.
“Um… I should go-” You cleared your throat and tried to push yourself up to your feet… that is until you felt a slight tug on your shirt.
When you looked at the swordsman, he didn’t say anything to address you but from the blush on his cheeks and how his lips were pressed tightly together, you slowly sat back down next to him, closer than before so your thighs were pressed together this time. Another tug and now your head was leaning against his shoulder, making your cheeks flare up again. When you heard the soft snores, you let out a sigh, relieved more than anything now. He wasn’t always the romantic type so you’d take this silent confession as a win.
Sniper King Usopp: Your captain had asked for you to keep him company while fishing as Usopp went to water his plants. You argued that Luffy didn’t even talk when he was fishing but ultimately gave in when he pouted and said “captain’s orders.” As you suspected, the rubber man focused in on fishing and the two of you sunk into silence, leaving you to daydream like you usually do.
Usopp had just finished watering his plants when he walked out on deck. He spotted you and Luffy fishing and smiled before stepping over to possibly join the two of you; he blushed lightly at the thought of talking with you while ‘fishing.’ When he got closer, however, he could see that the fishing reel on your rod was spinning way too fast and he could see that the line was becoming tighter. His eyes widened and he called your name while running the rest of the way to the railing the two of you were sat at.
You hadn’t noticed that the fishing line had started to tug until it was too late. When the line had stretched tautly, you were pulled off the ship. Your reel fell out of your hands and you closed your eyes as you felt yourself fall towards the ocean, waiting for the impact of the waves below. Suddenly, you weren’t falling anymore and there was a warm hand grasping yours.
“Go, Usopp!” You heard your captain yell, making you open your eyes. The object of your affection had grasped onto your hand while leaning over the railing, successfully stopping you from hitting the water. He reached his other hand down to you so you could get a hold of it, which you did. He pulled you up with a couple of grunts and helped you settle on your feet after going over the banister. You let out a breath that you hadn’t realized you were holding and actually found it quite difficult to catch your breath. At the sound of yells, you turned your head and saw that Chopper was cheering Luffy on as he had your fishing rod in his hands and he fought against the fish that almost pulled you overboard.
“You alright, (Y/N)?” You turned back to your crush’s voice, blushing lightly at the look he was giving you and how he started to circle you; his eyes looked you up and down frantically.
“I’m fine,” you were able to get out through your still clenched throat, “don’t worry. You got here just in time. So… Thank you.” He stopped circling you to stand in front of you and you noticed that there was a light pink dusting against his cheeks, growing darker after you smiled at him.
“What happened? You almost fell off!” You had hoped he wouldn’t ask. It’d be embarrassing to tell your crush that you almost fell into the ocean from daydreaming about him. You already felt the first blooms of embarrassment fill your chest and show on your cheeks.
“Um… I might have been daydreaming…” Usopp raised an eyebrow. Daydreaming? You were so lost in thought that you almost fell off the ship? He knew that you usually daydreamed but to this extent? It must have been important.
“What were you so spaced out about?” He asked, making him tilt his head slightly at how you stiffened. Suddenly, your cheeks flared up with a darker shade of red and he could feel his own ears and cheeks heat up just from how cute you looked.
Your thoughts were running a mile a minute. Maybe this was your chance to reveal to your crush that you actually had a crush on him. Usopp was a nice guy so, even if he didn’t feel the same way, he would turn you down nicely; that’s what you told yourself but that didn’t calm you in the slightest. Fear went through your veins at the thought of being rejected but you also couldn’t hold onto these unrequited feelings any longer. It sucked!
Before you could process any further, your mouth opened up and said, “You.” You didn’t think your cheeks could flair up any more but they did and so did his. Oh no, did you embarrass him?
His heart was about to implode. You were thinking about him? What did that mean? Was it what he was hoping it meant? Did you mean it in a friendly way? What did it mean?! Before he could even get a single question out, a shadow had casted over the two of you, making both of you momentarily forget your flustered state and look up. Your eyes widened as you looked at the giant fish falling above you, ignoring the whooping yells of your captain. You felt hands on your shoulders and you were pulled back once again into a hard chest. The deck under your feet rumbled as the fish landed on the hardwood floor and the sheer size of it made a shiver go down your spine. That’s the thing that almost dragged you into the ocean. You cringed at the mere thought but your attention was brought back to the man behind you clearing his throat. You turned around to look at him and your blush returned at full blast. His own face was a lovely shade of red and he was looking to the side.
“Um… W-Want to go check on the plants with m-me while Sanji figures this fish out?” His question caught you off guard but you nodded, unsure that you wanted to be around the chaos that was your crew preparing for dinner. Also, any moment alone with the man of your affections was always welcomed.
“Yeah! I’d love to!” He gave you a smile, sending your heart into overdrive.
“I’ll show you some of my new plants.” You nodded and smiled back, momentarily forgetting  your outburst earlier… that is until he held out his hand to you. You looked at it before looking at his turned away face, seeing the redness that covered not only his whole face but even his ears and neck. With the crew’s eyes turned towards the fish, Usopp took you to the garden, hand securely holding yours.
