Scars Worn With Pride

Josele's precious, treasured friends.

Looking at them now, it sank in how deeply they cared for her too.

Sickly pallor or even grey patches in their complexions.

Dark veins like cracks in their forms. Faint indents where punctures and cuts would've been.

Not even the power of the Red Thread of Fate was able to spare them all from bearing the traces of those injuries. Each and every one of them was forever marked by that death bringing magic.

There was no apologizing. They wouldn’t allow it for a moment.

“It wasn’t your fault,” they whispered over and over.

“We chose to fight, so we chose to be hurt,” they assured her calmly.

“Besides, they look kinda, cool, don’t they?” some were able to say despite their grievous scars.

There was no magic to heal these wounds. They were scars that would never fade, no matter how much time passed. All there was were the gentle reassurances of care as she embraced each of them and truly felt their warmth for the first time.

Her beloved friends had been tainted by the waters of the River Styx, but they would wear their marks with pride, as they were earned by diving in to save her from drowning its depths.

Their scars were signs that they loved Josele. That their love was stronger than the pull of death itself.
