The beer was cool against Eugene’s lips as he raised the bottle, taking a long swig of the golden liquid. He watched the scene unfolding in front of him, as George Luz tried hopelessly to flirt with the poor barmaid who wasn’t the slightest bit interested. He’d been at it for the best part of an hour but he still hadn’t given up hope. Eugene and Babe Heffron gave up trying to help him, wanting to preserve what little dignity George still had left as the barmaid landed another wounding blow to his ego and resigned to a game of darts with Buck Compton and Joe Toye.
“The winner gets two packs of smokes?” Joe asked, twirling the dart delicately between his fingers, a smirk on his face.
“You’re on,” Babe replied, dragging Eugene with him who followed reluctantly, downing the rest of his beer before taking the darts from his friend and lining himself up with the board. “Go on Gene, show 'em what ya got.” Babe cheered, clapping his hands enthusiastically and causing a red tint to spread across Eugene’s cheeks. He threw the first two darts with ease, not letting the noise of the bar or the jeering from his comrades distract him. Before he threw the third dart, the door swung open letting in the cool evening breeze and sending a shiver down Eugene’s spine, a pleasant relief from the sticky sweat beneath his class A uniform. His dark eyes moved to the door where they met those of a certain female medic who was smiling jovially and waving at a group of his fellow Easy Company men. Eugene gulped, averting his eyes back to the darts board when he felt a hand appear on his shoulder. “Do I notice a blush on those cheeks, Eugene?” Buck whispered into his ear, causing Gene to duck away from him.
“No…got nothin’ to blush about…just warm in here,” Eugene tugged at the collar of his uniform, emphasising how warm he was.
“Sure thing, Doc,” Buck smirked at him as Eugene took his last turn before handing the darts off to Joe.
“Buck’s right you know,” Babe chimed in, following Eugene as he retreated to the bar. “You’ve just gotta talk to her, she’s a nice gal and if the way she’s been looking over here all night I reckon she feels the same way.”
Eugene leant forward, coughing frantically on the sip of beer he’d just taken.
“Christ Gene, don’t die on me,” Babe laughed, slapping the medics back playfully. Eugene gave Babe a stern glare causing the young paratrooper to put his hands up in mock surrender. “Just think about it.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the evening drew on, Eugene found his senses dwindling from the alcohol he’d consumed. He’d somehow been drawn into a drinking game with Chuck and Floyd and could feel his brain begin to falter as he fumbled his way through the bar to a seat in the corner. Eugene's mind was swaying aimlessly when a familiar figure sat down beside him, equally wobbly from their alcohol intoxication.
“Hey Genie,” she blushed, running her hand through his dark locks causing him to freeze. “How’re you doing?” She mumbled, slumping down beside him.
“I… ’m okay… good…you?” Eugene gulped, glancing at Y/n as she grinned.
“I’m good but I’m even better now I’m here with you,” she grabbed ahold of his hands. “Do you want to get some air, it’s a little stuffy in here.” She bit her lip and batted her lashes. Eugene gulped again.
“Yeah, course…I’d…love to.”
Y/n grabbed hold of his hand, leading him between the crowds of paratroopers to the door, a few whistles and shouts of ‘go get her Gene’ followed them.
The cool air brushed Eugene’s face, bringing some relief from the stifling heat of the bar. Taking a deep breath and watching as the air left his lungs in a small puff into the night, he began to feel some relief.
“Eugene, I need to tell you something. I’ve wanted to tell you for a while and now that we’re going back into combat I need to tell you before it’s too late and I don’t get the chance,” Y/n rambled, reeling off the sentences in one breath without turning to face him. Eugene moved slowly, fearful of frightening the panicked woman who stood before him. They were facing each other but Y/n wouldn’t meet his eyes. “Y/n?” He squeezed her hands lightly causing her to look up, his eyes pleading with her.
“You don’t feel the same do you?” She asked, her bottom lip began to quiver and her eyes watery. The image broke Eugene’s heart and he quickly stepped forward pulling the young woman into his chest. Her shoulders shook a little and he rushed to comfort her. “Shhh mon amour, please don’tcha think that,” Eugene begged, pressing his lips firmly to her hairline in a desperate attempt to bring her some comfort.
“I have loved ya since I laid eyes on you, ain’t ya the most beautiful, strong and brave woman I ever seen,” this time it was Eugene’s turn to ramble. “I was just too afraid in case ya didn’t feel the same.”
Y/n looked up a little shell shocked from his confession. She’d never heard the Cajun man speak so plainly or so much that she wasn’t sure how to reply, instead she grabbed hold of his collar, pushing her lips to his. Eugene let out a small yelp of protest before he too cercumed to the kiss, winding his arms around her waist and holding her firmly against him.
When they pulled apart Y/n was smiling widely, “Do you maybe want to walk me to my billet?” She bit her lip, watching as the cogs of Eugene’s mind turned frantically.
“Y…yes,” he finally stuttered, taking hold of her arm and they began the short journey to the house where Y/n was staying.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“We shouldn't be doin’ this,” Eugene groaned as she began placing hot, open-mouth kisses along his jugular, nipping at the sensitive flesh. “Y/n.” His hands gripped ahold of her hips, stopping any movement and causing Y/n to look up, her eyebrows furrowed as she watched him worriedly. Had she overstepped the line? Did he not want her? It had been pretty clear how he was feeling when he’d carried her up the stairs, stripping her of her clothes as they went. Y/n swiftly climbed off his lap, stepping away from him and straightening the nonexistent creases in her uniform shirt. “I'm sorry… Gene, I'm so sorry… I didn’t,” she began digressing, unable to meet his eyes as her lips ran wild, words tumbling from them at an embarrassingly rapid rate.
Eugene stood quickly, stepping over towards her and grasping hold of her hands, bringing them up to his lips and silencing her ramblings.
“It ain’t that at all, ma chérie, of course, I want ya. I've wanted ya for so long but I needa make sure ya want this too. I need to know how far ya wanna go with this because honestly,” he paused, rubbing his hand over the back of his neck awkwardly. “I don’t think I'll be able to stop myself once we’ve started. God, I'm weak.” Eugene slumped back down on the bed, running his hand over his face with a low groan, “It’s just that I’ve never felt this way before and I know it's wrong and we shouldn’t but I…” Gene was silenced by Y/n’s lips pressing firmly to his, her hand winding around his neck and into his hair as his hands came to rest upon her hips.
“I want this, Gene,” she breathed, her breath fanning over the sensitive skin of his neck. “I want you.”
It was as if a switch flicked in Eugene’s mind because the next thing Y/n knew she was pinned beneath him, his strong arms resting on either side of her head, his mouth sucking deep bruises on her abdomen and his hands trailing down her sides, stroking her hips lovingly.
“Gene,” she gasped as he grazed his teeth along the skin of her lower abdomen. “God, yes Gene. Yes!” Eugene’s hands worked quickly, slipping her underwear down her legs and discarding them across the room, placing small kisses on her thighs.
Eugene couldn’t believe his luck when he looked up at Y/n, the woman he’d been in love with since Toccoa was here, beneath him, letting him make love to her. The smell of her hair, the soft moans that left her perfect mouth, and her salty, sweaty skin beneath his lips drove him wild. His lips worked quickly, lapping and kissing between her thighs until she was a moaning mess, hands fisted into the bedsheets, back arching off the bed.
“Eugene, please,” Y/n all but cried, fisting her hands into his dark locks, tugging him upwards to kiss him. Eugene’s lips curled up into a smirk, his dark eyes shining. “Please Gene, I need you.” She begged, pulling him flush against her body and fiddling at the buckle of his trousers desperately.
“Someone’s needy, ain’t ya Darlin’,” Gene asked, smoothing down the loose hairs from around her face. Y/n managed to slip her hand down into his underwear, fingers grazing against his hard cock, pulling it free from his trousers. Eugene let out a shaky breath, his hands stabilising himself against the headboard.
“God preserve me,” he muttered through gritted teeth as Y/n ran her thumb over his red tip. Y/n smiled up at him, running her other hand softly over his cheek.
“I love you, Eugene.”
“I love to too, Ma Chérie.” He sealed his lips to hers, stealing the air from her lungs. Gene’s hands shook with anticipation as he dragged the head of his cock up and down your sex agonisingly slow. Eugene let out a choked sound as he sunk into her, both of them reeling at the feeling of fullness. Y/n’s hands gripping tightly to his shoulders, leaving deep red marks on his pale flesh.
“You’re so tight,” he grunted, pulling back slightly before rocking himself forward. Y/n groaned, squeezing her pelvic muscles as Eugene bit back a pained whimper escaping from his plump lips.
Y/n chuckled slightly and did it again, his grip tightening on her hips and he sent her a warning glare. Eugene’s thrust became more desperate, needier. His hands moved to pin hers above her head, chests impossibly close.
The room was quickly filled with soft moans and needy whines as he brought her to the edge. Y/n’s eyes were closed, too consumed by the pleasure building in her stomach, the knot tightening deep in her abdomen.
“Look at me ma Chérie, I want to see ya. I need ya to look at me.” Eugene pleaded, his voice strained as he too fought his orgasm. As Y/n opened her eyes the band snapped and she was sent spiraling into her ecstasy, hips bucking upwards uncontrollably. Eugene soon followed, cumming with a loud cry as he buried his head into her neck, loud breaths muffled by her flesh.
The couple lay there for a few minutes, both too exhausted to move or speak, too wrapped up in their moment of satisfaction.
“Eugene,” Y/n spoke slowly, carding her fingers through his locks. Eugene let out a small hum in response, tilting his head to look at her. “Thank you.”
“What for, Darlin’?” He asked, propping himself up above her.
“For this. For making me feel this way… for loving me,” she admitted sheepishly. Eugene's normally shy features burst with love, his smile growing wider than ever. “It weren’t difficult ma Chérie. It was real easy to love you and I found it impossible to stop myself from loving ya.” He admitted, a red hue growing across his cheeks causing Y/n to smile too.
“Well, I’m very glad you didn’t stop yourself. I love you.” She caressed his cheek, leaning their foreheads together lovingly. “As do I, ma Chérie.”

T/w: Mildly suggestive?? Idunno they kinda french kiss… for a bit... They cuddle on a bed. He leaves love bites. I’m sorry
Request By: WinterBlue_Angel22
Prompt:  Hi! ✨️ Can I request a fluffy long oneshot with prompts: "Um, H-hunter, d-do you w-want to m-makeout with m-me?", "W-what? A-are y-you s-sure, Y/n?", [French kisses where they trace every tooth with their tongues as though trying to memorize them.], [Tucking his hands beneath his shy!female!human!reader's shirt, just to watch she breaks the kiss and gasp in surprise at the sensation of his warm hands on her skin.] and "W-wow, that is so a-amazing, H-hunter." about Hunter and his shy!female!human!reader are having our first makeout session together on bed in guest room at Luz's house on Human Realm when everyone was gone for movie night? What kind of reaction Hunter has when she shyly asked him to want our first makeout session with her? 🤭 I bet he will be shy blushing mess to it, haha. 😂 Hint#1: suggestive moments ⚠️: french kisses and hickey. Hint#2: She gets makeout idea from Luz and Amity. 🤣 At end, Hunter angrily chases to catch Luz and Amity around Luz's house for corrupting his shy human girlfriend's innocence. 🤣 I really live for flustered Hunter! 💗 Please??
Hunter and his girlfriend had stayed home at Camila’s while everyone else had gone out to watch a movie. Hunter, however, preferred to stay home to watch a movie. This way he wouldn’t be bothering anyone with his reactions of sudden excitement, fear, or random theories and predictions. (Y/N) didn’t mind any of this though; she loved hearing him.
The two decided to watch a movie together on the couch instead. They picked one out called the Megamind. The couple cuddled together on the couch as the movie played on.
Hunter and his friends had been in the Human Realm for several months. He enjoyed it there. At first, he was scared about what would happen next. Everything had happened to suddenly. He was horrified of the thought that his friend would find out if he was a Grimwalker. Things had gotten better, however, when he met (Y/N). He found her on one of the group’s outings to discover more about the human realm.
He looked down at her curled up form and pulled her closer. He remembered how time stopped when he saw her at the park. And then he saw her again at a store, then almost a dozen times everywhere, and then at the park again where Luz finally convinced him to talk to her; that was when it all started. Hunter had always been slightly awkward around others, especially since he never interacted with witches his age until he met Luz and her friends. Now, he had a human girlfriend! He never thought much about it, but sometimes he wondered what would happen once they found a way back into the Demon Realm.
After being about halfway through the movie, he noticed (Y/N) was getting a bit cuddlier. Hunter smiled to himself and he pulled her closer. After a few moments, (Y/N) broke the silence, “Um, H-hunter?” He turned to look down at her again. Her face had gained a deep blush and he smiled, “Yeah?” he asked sweetly. She hid her face in his arm. “D-do you w-want to m-make out with m-me?” she stammered shyly. Hunter blushed madly, “W-what?!” He squeaked, feeling the red burning in his ears. He had never kissed (Y/N) before. He already found that cuddling was a big jump- he hadn’t ever thought that she’d ask to make out!
Hunter’s face was a deep crimson, and he shuffled around shyly on the couch; she wanted to kiss him! He turned away nervously, feeling his heart race: he could hear it throbbing in his ears. He exhaled shyly and danced his fingers over his leg.
He finally stirred up the courage to speak again and looked at her, “A-are y-you s-sure, (Y/N)?” He asked shyly. He felt a knot in his throat: he had never had an intimate relationship with anyone. What was he going to do?
“Mhm,” she hummed. Hunter felt his heart skip a few dozen beats. His ears bent backwards and he bit his lip, Oh my Titan, what do I do?!
“Oh,”  He murmured gently, feeling her nuzzle his arm. His mind was racing and so was his heart. Hunter looked away shyly and shifted around on the couch. He pulled his legs up and curled them around (Y/N). He had no idea where to start.
He shifted again, making (Y/N) sit up while he did so. He locked eyes with her for a split moment, but he hastily looked away again. After another few moments, he curled his hands into fists as if he was ready to face a fight, and let out a breath.
“O-ok!” Hunter said, smiling. He was excited, but more so nervous. He didn’t think he even understood the concept of a romantic relationship yet. “Really?!” (Y/N) exclaimed, jumping up with delight. Hunter nodded shyly, his ears bending back and turning red.
(Y/N) giggled happily and embraced Hunter, pecking his cheek as she did so. Hunter’s eyes widened and he blushed madly, his light skin darkening into a deep red. He wrapped his arms around (Y/N) slowly, nervously, pulling her closer to him.
She pulled away from the peck and smiled at him. Hunter felt his heart melt and his entire body relax. His gaze softened as he stared at (Y/N)’s deep pools of (e/c).
Hunter leaned down and pecked her lips lightly, feeling a sudden wave of nervousness and excitement wash over him. A blush ran ablaze across his face from ear to ear. He pulled back hastily and looked away shyly, and (Y/N) did the same.
“I-I’m sorry, (Y/N),” he squeaked bashfully, “um… I’m- I’m just nervous…” he hugged his arms nervously.
“It’s OK,” (Y/N) reassured him softly, “We don’t have to if you don’t want to, Hunter.”
He froze for a moment, feeling his heart sink as he realized. No one had ever offered him to not do something. He had always been demanded and expected to do as told. Hunter sighed; he wanted to. He wanted to do so much with (Y/N) but he was too nervous. He was surprised he had even been able to ask her to be his girlfriend.
“No, it’s-” He stammered nervously, “It’s n-not that I don’t want too…” He blushed madly, visible nervousness on his face. “I…” Hunter hesitated, then sighed, “I just… I don’t know how!” He finally confessed, locking eyes with her. His eyes were sad and full of worry. His ears had bent back in shame.
“Oh, Hunter,” (Y/N) soothed gently and placed her hand over his. “Don’t worry,” she said gently. “I… I-I can… show you…” She offered, blushing deeply. Hunter looked away for a moment, but looked back and nodded shyly. He almost looked like a sad puppy!
Tumblr media
She smiled at him, “OK…” She exhaled, “Ready?” He smiled and nodded sheepishly. “OK, let’s try again.”
She pressed her lips against Hunter’s, closing her eyes. Hunter flinched slightly, and his pointed ears bent back again. He froze, feeling the warmth of (Y/N)’s lips against his. Slowly, he closed his eyes and melted into the kiss.
(Y/N) pulled away smiling at him; the two were a blushing mess. They began pecking each other randomly, shyly kissing each other’s faces and lips. Every time Hunter pecked (Y/N), she blushed a bit more, feeling a thousand butterflies fluttering throughout her body.
Hunter then sat again, and shifted himself towards (Y/N). He sat down, crossing his legs on the couch. Slowly he leaned towards her again and pecked her lightly. Hunter didn’t fully pull away, he stayed close enough to keep kissing her gently.
Finally, Hunter’s hands slowly went up to her, and he cupped each of her cheeks. He pulled her towards him, and he kissed her for a long time
Hunter pressed his lips against hers, almost as if he wanted to taste her. This was everything he never knew he wanted. He had never felt the warmth of someone else, he had never felt loved or wanted. All he had ever been was useful to Belos. Not anymore though; he didn’t care if he was useful anymore. Now he felt loved and he knew what he wanted: Hunter wanted to be with (Y/N).
He pulled her closer, deepening the kiss as he did so. Hunter began to feel the starvation take control of him, it was in every bit of his body. He didn’t understand what it was but he knew how to satisfy the intense hunger his heart felt: every time he pulled her closer a bit of the starvation lessened.
Hunter pulled her even closer to him. He kissed her amorously and (Y/N) kissed back. Suddenly, he felt (Y/N)’s hands curling around his wrists. Her gentle fingers wrapped around him and pulled him closer to her. Hunter melted again. His face was hot, his mind was racing, and his heart was both racing and melting.
(Y/N) then pressed her lips against his even more. She tilted her head and deepened the kiss. She wanted to get a taste of Hunter. She then bit his lip lightly and he froze for a moment in surprise. He had… liked it. It was like she wanted him close too.
Although they had kissed for a while, Hunter was still nervous about how to continue. Suddenly, he felt (Y/N) part her lip slightly. The warmth of her tongue surprised him yet also soothed him in way. Her tongue began to trace every bit of his mouth, and he followed. They kissed each other passionately as if desperately trying to remember one another.
The two finally pulled apart and were a blushing mess. Hunter looked over to see the credits playing on the TV screen, then he looked over to the front door. He swung his feet over the couch and stood up. He blushed lightly at the idea but continued anyway.
“C’mon,” He said, picking up (Y/N) bridal-style, “Let’s go somewhere more private.”
(Y/N) blushed madly but giggled, “H-Hunter!” She said smiling. (Y/N) hid her face in his chest as he carried her up the stairs and into the guest bedroom. Hunter laid her next to him on the bed and began pecking her face and kissing her softly again. Between the kisses Hunter would nuzzle her lightly making (Y/N) smile. She wrapped her arms around Hunter and kept him close to her.
Hunter kissed her passionately again and again. He slipped his hands under her shirt, feeling (Y/N)’s back as he did so; her skin was soft and warm. (Y/N) gasped suddenly, breaking the kiss and pulling away.
“H-Hunter!!” She squeaked, pulling her shoulders in slightly as if she was trying to hide. He laughed lightly to himself, looking at (Y/N) and pecking her cheeks. Hunter smiled, he had no idea how wonderful loving and being loved could feel.
Hunter started to cuddle her. He didn’t even know what he was doing. All he knew was that he wanted to feel close to her. He began to kiss her jawline and slowly make his way down her neck. Hunter nuzzled her lightly, wanting to hide away in her soft skin.
(Y/N) smiled shyly as Hunter went on. She gasped suddenly when she felt a little nip on her neck, and then another, and another…
“H… Hunter…” She stammered softly, “Sweetheart, what are you up to?” Hunter smiled for a moment, but stopped hastily.
“Oh uh…” His ears pulled back suddenly as fear took over his heart. Had he done something wrong? “I-I,” He blushed in shame, “I... I’m s-sorry (Y/N)...” He began to lift himself onto his side. “Did… did you… like that?” He felt his heart race unsteadily. Maybe Belos wasn’t the only one who didn’t want him anymore…
“Mhm,” She hummed gently. She pulled him back in even closer and Hunter felt himself melt. He melted anytime (Y/N) had made him feel wanted.
He smiled, kissing her passionately this time. “Well, I guess I’ll continue then.”
(Y/N) laughed, “Hunter! You’re so sweet!” Hunter smiled at her. He nuzzled her again and continued leaving little love bites all over her neck.
The two cuddled for a while. Suddenly, a thought broke Hunter out of the moment.
“Hey, uh, (Y/N),” he asked, his focus intently on nothing.
“Yeah?” She hummed.
“Ummm…” Hunter frowned slightly in thought, trying to think of a way he could ask. He knew (Y/N) well enough to know she was quite innocent and sweet. “How… uh… why, I guess, did you think of… making out?” He squeaked the last few words.
(Y/N) blushed, her eyes opened and she hid into Hunter. “Um… I accidentally… maybe… walked into Luz and Amity??” She replied nervously.
“Huh.” He said, pulling (Y/N) closer. “Good to know…”
He hid into her chest, “(Y/N)?” he nervously called her name.
She smiled. His voice and been soft and full of nervousness. She knew he needed comfort and spoke gently, “Yes, Dear?” He melted in her arms. Hunter bit his lip for a moment.
“I-I… I love you…”
She kissed his forehead gently, “I love you, Hunter.” He felt ease in his heart, and a sudden completion of his soul. This was what he had been starved from: (Y/N)’s love.

After a while of cuddling, the two finally heard everyone coming back. They made their way downstairs and towards the front door to greet them. Hunter, however, had something else in mind. He was quite flustered and ready to face it.
As everyone made their way into the house, Hunter looked for Luz and Amity. Everyone was talking about the movie they had watched and how great it was. Guz and Willow were visibly excited to have experienced a ‘Human Movie’.
Hunter finally spotted them. “LUZ! AMITY!” He called out to them sternly. The two girls froze and stared at him in silence.
“Um…” Luz broke the silence, “What is it?” She stared at him and (Y/N).
“(Y/N) told me she got a little idea from you too…” He glared at them with arms crossed. “She said you two were ‘making out’ in front of her… Care to explain?”
They both blushed madly, and Luz was the first to speak. “How much did you see?!” (Y/N) blushed again, looking away.
“Um… a… a bit…?” She murmured, unsure of what to say.
Hunter ran at the girls, “YOU TWO CORRUPTED HER!”
“AGH!” The two shouted in unison. Luz grabbed Amity’s hand and dragged her with her. They ran around the couch, into the kitchen, all over the first floor trying to escape Hunter.
“Niños! Calmense, por favor!" Camila begged them to stop and calm down. It was utterly useless. Hunter was determined to get them.
Everyone else laughed at them. (Y/N) watched Hunter and smiled to herself. If he was willing to protect her innocence, he was willing to protect her from any harm. She blushed lightly and laughed. This is gonna be a long night.
                                      ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
This was surprisingly difficult to get through. It took me a whole week to finish it. Huh. Well, thank you all for reading and thank you WinterBlue_Angel22 (Wattpad) for requesting! It means a lot that my one-shots have caught your attention enough for you to request! Requests remain open but please keep in mind I they may take a while! Thank you again!

Master Carver
Ao3
A few more cuts and Hunter set the knife aside, spinning the pumpkin around with a grin “So, what do you think?”
Clover buzzed with approval, hovering around the pumpkin with their image carved into it.
“I think she likes it,” Willow said with a giggle, lifting the pumpkin from the table and moving it to sit beside the other carved pumpkins on the bench. Clover followed, joining the other palismen, Emmeline and Ghost and Stringbean and Owlbert, flying and crawling around their portraits.
Hunter beamed back at her, then grabbed another pumpkin, picked up his knife, and got to work.
“Hey how’s it– whoa!” Luz stopped short as soon as she came into the room, Gus and Amity right on her heels “Dang, your pumpkin carving game is strong!”
Amity leaned down close to the pumpkin with an image of Ghost carved into it, Ghost herself curled up around it “Yeah Hunter these are really good,”
“Of course they are,” Willow folded her arms across her chest, satisfied smile on her face “Hunter is the best up and coming palismen carver in the Boiling Isles,”
Hunter met her eyes and smiled back, a red flush spreading across his face all the way to the tips of his ears, then ducked back behind the pumpkin he was working on.
“A palismen carver carving pumpkins with pictures of palismen, that is so meta…”
“These are cool,” Gus stepped up to join Amity and Luz “But I thought human jack o lanterns are supposed to be scary,”
“Oh don’t worry,” Hunter carved out a sliver of orange flesh from the pumpkin in front of him “This next one is going to be utterly horrifying,”
That got their attention, four heads swiveling towards him.
“What is it?” Amity asked.
Another twist of the knife and more flesh fell away “Only the most grotesque, terrifying creature in all the Boiling Isles and the human realm combined,”
The others were all gathered around the other side of the work table now, craning their necks to try and get a look.
Luz was practically hanging over the table to try and catch a peek “Ok but what is it specifically,”
One more cut and Hunter set his knife aside, grinning up at them “Are you sure? This creature is said to be so unspeakably hideous that even looking upon its image can drive you to madness,”
“I was Grom Queen! I can handle this,”
“Yeah come on dude, you gotta show us now,”
“I feel confident that we can handle it,”
Willow giggled again “Well even if it melts my eyeballs out I still want to see it,”
Hunter smirked up at them and set his hand on top of the pumpkin “Well then, prepare to be…” he spun the pumpkin around in one fluid motion “Horrified!”
For a few seconds the four of them just stared at the pumpkin in silence. Then Amity’s cheeks puffed out, snorting a giggle that turned into uproarious laughter. Less than a second later Luz, Willow, and Gus were laughing right along with her. The four of them laughing and laughing with all their might.
The merriment was contagious as Hunter felt the beginnings of laughter bubbling in his own chest.
“I– I– I– gotta hand it to you Hunter,” Luz managed to get out between laughs “That is the most terrifying jack o lantern I’ve ever seen,”
“Yep,” Hunter patted the pumpkin, sporting an image of Kikimora carved into the side “With this I’m sure our house is going to be the scariest one on the block,”
Another wave of laughter surged through the group, this time Hunter didn’t stop himself and laughed right along with them. All five of them laughing uncontrollably, sides in stitches and tears leaking rolling down their cheeks.

Sorry it’s been a month since the last update! But life has been crazy but rest assured, we shall keep advancing the friendship! Hunter is searching for the perfect way to ask Willow out, but of course he must encounter obstacles. Read on AO3 or under the cut!
“I don’t know what to do!” Willow exclaimed as she frantically started pacing the room once she was sure Hunter had left. “This whole time, this whole entire time I thought he was my boyfriend! But apparently not? I mean, I guess we never said it officially or anything but still! Oh my Titan he must’ve thought I was crazy!”
“I mean, he couldn’t have been that upset right?” Amity pointed out. “I mean, he did confess to you eventually.”
“Yeah I guess,” Willow said as she flopped on the bed. “And then I basically slammed the door in his face!”
“Yeah, maybe not your best move?” Said Amity, sucking her teeth.
“I guess just… I dunno. I thought kissing him at Grom was a pretty obvious sign that I liked him. But I guess he thought it was just a Grom thing.”
“Aw Willow, he’s so stupid,” Amity said as endearingly as she could.
“I know!” Willow groaned, covering her face with a pillow. “He’s so cute it makes me furious!”
“I mean, in your defense, it definitely seemed like you were dating. I mean, just look at what he posted right before the game!’ said Amity, taking out her scroll to pull up Hunter’s latest penstagram post. “It’s a picture of you two and he wrote: ‘She’s amazing #wcw always.’ He literally just called you his crush. That’s a pretty public declaration of feelings.”
“No, he thinks it stands for ‘Willow can win.’” Willow explained with a smile as she traced the pattern on her pillowcase with her finger. “I just thought it was cute so I didn’t correct him.”
“But just look at this picture,” said Amity, turning her scroll around to show Willow. “He can’t take his eyes off you. Even with the face paint you can tell how red his face is. It’s the same goofy face he had at Grom.”
“Hmm yeah, it is pretty goofy,” Willow chuckled as her face adopted a goofy grin of its own to match. She let out an aggravated sigh as she leaned back to hide beneath the pillow again. “Ergh, but now he thinks I’m upset about the kiss,” groaned Willow. “Which of course I’m not! It was a great kiss! It was a really great kiss.”
She felt tense and relaxed at the same time thinking about the total euphoria of Hunter spinning her around in the sunshine, laughing and smiling before pulling her in and pulling away far too soon. She had been riding that high the whole night up until what she thought a spontaneous romantic rendezvous had turned into an apology. He had apologized! Did that mean the kiss didn’t make him feel the same way? He said he had done it because he liked her but what if kissing her made him realize-
“Amity, what if he didn’t think it was a great kiss?” Willow asked in a panic, shooting up from the bed. “And that’s why he came over? W-what if I didn’t let him finish and he was going to say ‘I kissed you because I liked you but now I realize I don’t anymore, sorry.’”
“Uh…”
“I should’ve just told him I liked him back,” groaned Willow. “Then we could’ve just started over but I was just so caught off guard that I just left! Ahhhh!”
Amity watched her friend scream into her pillow and knew the feeling all too well. It seemed like just yesterday she was hyperventilating about kissing Luz on the cheek outside her house. Willow had been there for her then, even though they were still on shaky terms. But now their friendship was stronger than ever and Amity was determined to be the amazing friend that Willow deserved and had always been to her.
Amity gently lifted the pillow off her friend’s face so she could hear her better. “The other day Hunter and Luz came over and we were hanging up all the photos my mom never let us display because they weren’t ‘perfect’ enough. We were going through the photos from when we were little and he found a bunch of you and I from when I wasn’t terrible yet. And he just like… stared at this one photo of you in the garden like it was the most precious thing he’d ever seen in his life. I’m pretty sure he only hung up photos that had you in them.”
“Well I was a very cute child,” Willow replied with a sly smile. She had caught him doing the very same thing at her house many times, her fathers teased her about making him copies. She wished she had a photo of baby Hunter to fawn over. She knew none existed, she had pestered Darius about it and while he was able to confirm that while Hunter had indeed been a child wreaking havoc in the castle, Belos had chosen not document this (much to Willow’s dismay.) Hunter’s lack of memories to offer any additional insight had driven Willow to imagine what them meeting earlier would be like. She imagined he always had his gap tooth, growing up with a lisp that forced him to practice his vocabulary in the mirror until he-
But why was she thinking about this when she was trying to figure out how she was supposed to be feeling about Hunter now?
“What I’m trying to say is,” continued Amity, once she was sure Willow had left the mini daydream the story had inspired. “Hunter is crazy about you and has been for a long time. He knows you and cares about you and it would take alot more than a bad kiss for him to stop feeling that way.”
Willow sat up and squinted skeptically at Amity. “Are you saying I’m a bad kisser?”
----
At school the next day, Willow was doing everything she could to fight off the vines that tried to form around her feet. She knew that their interaction would be different today; she just didn’t know how. After his confessions and her apparent confusion, she didn't know if they were on the same page about what they were. Would he be shy? Embarrassed? Would he make the assumption she had made a month ago and act like she had? Regardless, she decided that no matter how things changed, they could talk this out. Sure, it might be a tad bit awkward to tell someone you thought you were dating for the past month while they thought they were secretly pining for you, but maybe it could be something they laughed about together?
“Hey, it’s no big deal!” Amity assured her as Willow tried to summon the strength to walk into school. “Just act like you used to act around Hunter.”
“I don’t remember how I used to act around Hunter!” Said Willow in a hushed panic. “I liked getting to act like his girlfriend, I don’t know how to go back!”
“Okay, then act like his girlfriend.”
“But I don’t know if I’m his girlfriend!”
“Okay then stop asking me for advice!” Said Amity in a panic. “Sorry! I just… I don’t know what to say here.”
“Well how did you act around Luz after you kissed her?”
“Uh, not great?” Amity winced, remembering the utter mess she had been. “Maybe just follow Hunter’s lead? I mean, I don’t think you can act weirder than him.”
“Yeah, okay.” said Willow, doing the signature Park breathing technique to calm her nerves. “Yeah, sure. I’ll just see how Hunter feels and go from there.”
But Hunter never came.
At first, Willow was worried that he was avoiding her, that he had taken her reaction to his confession the wrong way. But then she found out he wasn’t in school at all, which seemed too extreme for Hunter, so she knew something else must’ve been up. He didn’t respond to her messages. Then Gus said he wasn’t responding to him either. Willow began to worry.
“Oh no, he’s at my house,” Luz said casually as she greeted them outside the school when Willow shared her concern.“Darius brought him over in a panic because he didn’t know what to do and then mama called Eda because she kind of knew what to do but it was a demon realm thing and when I left for school this morning they were all making him soup. It was very sweet.”
“But he’s okay?”
“Oh yeah he’s fine, he’s just a little sick is all,” said Luz. “He’s been sleeping all day, Stringbean cuddled with him while I was at school. Mama sent me a picture, see?”
Luz showed them the photo on her phone and Willow felt her heart flip. Was it weird that she missed him? She had just seen him and was so worried about seeing him again today but darn it when she didn’t she really missed him. He looked so peaceful and she was thrilled anytime he got extra rest, but she wished she had known he wasn’t feeling well. She wondered if things weren’t potentially awkward between them right now if he would’ve told her.
“Oh, well since he’s at your house did you wanna take his homework to him?” Willow asked, slightly downtrodden. “I know he’ll be panicking all weekend worrying he’d fall behind without it.”
“Very true but uh actually, I don’t know if I can,” said Luz, sensing Willow’s sadness. “Amity and I have plans and I might… forget the books somewhere? Sure, but if you wanna stop by… well he’s been out cold most of the day but I’m sure just knowing you came would make him feel much better.”
Willow smiled, grateful for the excuse to see him. Luz knew she would be and thought about asking the details of last night after everything that happened but felt it best to wait until Hunter was conscious so she could hear both sides. She had to assume Willow wanting to see him was a sign that things were improving and maybe the not so subtle mumbling of her name that Hunter did in his sleep meant he would be waking up in a world where he was less anxious about his future with the plant girl. Either way, it was one less task for Luz.
---
When Willow arrived at the Noceda household, she was very surprised when Darius answered the door. She knew Luz had mentioned he had brought Hunter over but she didn’t realize he had stayed. She smiled as the look on his face suggested he had slept very little, most likely in favor of ensuring Hunter’s comfort.
“I knew it was only a matter of time before you showed up,” he said with a smirk. It was the same smirk he wore when Willow would come pick him up from Darius’ house, a smirk that suggested her name often came up and he had been instructed to not mention how.
“Hello Darius,” said Willow, clutching Hunter’s books to her chest. “How are you?”
“Hmm, are you sure I’m the person whose health you came to inquire about?” he teased.
Willow couldn’t help but blush. “So… how is Hunter?”
“Oh he’s doing much better, dear,” said Camila, appearing in the doorway beside Darius. “Please come in, Willow. Can I get you something to drink?”
“I’m okay, thank you,” she said, following them down the familiar hallway. The walls were covered in newly framed photos, most of which she had taken. As saddened as she was about Hunter’s condition, she was glad she was in this house surrounded by so much love. “So what happened? He’s not hurt is he?”
“He was out late last night without his jacket and caught the common mold,” said Darius as he checked his cuticles. “Nothing overly serious, but for now he’s quarantined in the dungeon.”
“Basement,” Camila corrected him for what was obviously not the first time. “He’s doing fine, cariña, he’s just a little… loopy when he’s awake.”
“Yes, but between my knowledge of demon realm ailments and Ms. Camila’s natural nurturing abilities, he couldn’t be in better hands.” Darius said proudly, having declared himself a master of co-parenting on more than one occasion. “Plus Eda came by with a potion to ensure he’s very comfortable.”
“Oh, I’m sure,” said Willow. “I just wanted to bring him his homework and see how he was doing.”
“Of course dear, he will be so happy to see you,” said Camila as she got something out of the drawer. “Just wear a mask when you go down, okay? He still might be a little contagious.”
“And no matter how many times he asks, I will not tell him where the sewing machine is hidden,” Darius said sternly. “Not until his fever breaks.”
“Of course,” Willow said as she slipped on the mask as she turned to head down to the basement, just as she used to do daily not too long ago.
“Okay, now can you tell me how your hair does that thing?” Willow heard Camila whisper to Darius when they thought she was out of earshot.
Willow chuckled to herself, eager to talk about this new friendship developing upstairs with Hunter as soon as he was well enough to. She caught sight of him from the staircase and felt her heart melt. He was resting, a small snore whistled from the gap in his teeth as he clung to the oversized pillow Camila had given him. He looked utterly adorable and Willow did not want to disturb him. She tiptoed down the stairs to place his books on the end table beside but she couldn’t help but linger beside him to admire the unfiltered smile on his face up close.
She noticed during his tossing and turning, his blanket had fallen to the ground. She bent down to pick it up and place it back on him, but despite her best efforts, the action disturbed his slumber as his eyes slowly flickered open to find her.
“Sorry! Sorry!” She harshly whispered. “I was just getting your blanket, you can go back to sleep I-.”
“Doctor! Oh my Titan!” Hunter exclaimed as his eyes shot open, his voice bouncing and snuffy. “Did you know you have the most beautiful eyes?”
“I’m not a doctor, Hunter,” she chuckled. “It’s Willow.”
“Willow! Oh, Willow!” Hunter said it was the lyric of his favorite song. “You do have eyes like Willow! Willow has such soft eyes. They’re green. A soft green. Like a periiiidot. But those are not a soft things, they are rocks. And they’re juuuust like her eyes. Ah!” He turned his head dramatically as though the very thought of Willow’s eyes was just too much for him.
“How are you feeling?” Willow asked, her aforementioned eyes sparkling.
“I’m fiiiiine,” he sang, moving his arms in the air like noodles. “I was just out seeing Willow and then I left and forgot to remember to wear a jacket and I walked around too long. But it’s a common mold. How much can it even?”
She finished piling his blanket over him and looked down at him, concerned. She could tell the combos toon of the common mold and Eda’s ailment had done quite a number on him. He had no filter or real grasp of how to say what he was trying to say, but at least he wasn’t in any pain.
“You didn’t go right home after seeing me?”
“The healer said they didn’t know how it would affect a grimwalker but we came home after,” said Hunter, referring to Darius’ taking him to the healer to be checked out before seeking Camila’s wisdom. “But when I saw Willow I couldn’t go home because I was too much thinking.”
“Thinking about Willow?”
“Mhm-Hmm.”
She hesitated to ask specifics. “Was it good or bad?”
“She is always good,” he said, making sure to emphasize each word. “I’ve always thought that. But I just said the thing and then I was like in unbelieving of it.”
Camila was right, he was loopy.
“Is that what you were thinking about? About what you… told her?” She hoped he hadn’t been in too much distress. Hopefully not in regret.
“I was thought about … how? How is what’s next, you know? Like where do I take her?”
Willow just smiled, able to put enough pieces together to understand the gist of Hunter’s mumbles. It certainly wasn’t regret.
“I’m sure she’ll be fine going anywhere with you.”
“It’s like, I told her now I have to ask her but then my head got fuzzy and it’s been so many time since then,” he sighed dramatically, trying to focus on the ceiling. “And I’ll feel fine once the room stops moving!”
“So you weren’t… upset?”
“About liking Willow? Noooope!” he popped his “p” dramatically and chuckled to himself like it was the silliest question he had ever heard. “I mean I know I hide it pretty well, so don’t be surprised, doctor, but I like her like a lot. And I don’t wanna keep it secret ‘nymore.”
Willow was glad she was wearing a mask because she was sure the smile on her face was embarrassingly wide and she didn’t want Hunter to think she was happy he was ill, but how many girls got to say they got more than one heartfelt confession from their crush?
“She is just so…” Hunter started to say but his brain couldn’t seem to focus long enough to find the perfect word to finish his sentence. Instead he let out a dramatic sigh as his eyes fluttered, like the very thought of her made him closer to entering a dream. She remembered he had said the same incomplete wonderment that day on the flyer derby field with that same goofy grin.
Willow carefully sat on the couch’s arm, knowing she should be keeping her distance from him in his state, but she just didn’t see how she could do that. She wanted nothing more than to sit on the couch with his head on her lap and play with his hair and tell him all the things about him that made her feel goofy and dreamy as they watched human movies they didn’t really understand but she knew that would have to wait. Hopefully it wouldn’t have to wait too long.
“Oh, it seems so silly that you were walking home without a jacket when I still have your suit jacket from Grom in my room,” Willow sighed, sad she could’ve prevented this from happening as she readjusted his blanket on his chest. “I’m sorry I didn’t think to give it back to you.”
“Whaaaat? No! Don’t be sorry,” Hunter slurred, looking up at her with soft assuring eyes. “Darius says all the suave gentlemen give their dates their jacket. Plus he does not want to see that back in the house he says. He said ‘Little prince, you want her to see you as a competent suitor, not a silly clown covered in flowers.”
Willow giggled. “Well, I’ll be sure to let him know how very not silly I thought you looked,” she assured him, remembering how her heart absolutely fluttered when she first saw him in his suit, a suit she knew he had lovingly made with her in mind. How could she be anything other than impressed?
“Okay, wait, you know what is actually silly though?” Hunter said as though he was a stand up comic entering a well known bit, propping himself up on his elbows to see her better. “Is how I kissed her.”
“Oh…”
“Yeah,” Hunter chuckled at the joke only he understood. “Because like what even happened? I wanted to kiss her? And then I did? Whaat?!”
“Yeah it was uh preeeettty silly.” She said, trying to see how that was silly exactly.
“Cause like I’ve wanted to kiss her tons of other times but I didn’t, so like how did I even know how to, ya know?” He said as he rested his head back on his pillow, barely able to keep his puffy eyes open.
Her face lit up. “What?”
“Like I wanted to kiss Willow soooo many times before but I didn’t but like that’s the time I did? That’s crazy. It’s banana crazy. I wanted to kiss her that time we got bananas but I didn’t even know why. Who kisses in the banana aisle? No way!” He chuckled at his ramblings as though unaware they were occurring aloud with an audience. The audience in question was elated as these thoughts were not exclusive to the loopy boy looking up at her.
“Hmmm, why didn’t you?” She couldn’t resist asking as she leaned over the back of the couch and rested her cheek on her hand.
“I would’ve messed it up,” he said with a large sigh, sad that he was certain of it. “Luz said people are always falling over bananas, I couldn’t risk it.”
“I see.”
“Ya know we used to message all the time and I was gonna kiss her hand did you know?”
“No, I didn’t actually.”
“Yeah, it’s true,” he said with an air of cocky confidence she had not seen from him in awhile. “I was gonna. I was gonna run into her accidentally on purpose and then take off my mask helmet and kiss her hand and say something cool.”
He had never told her this before. Depending on the day he had intended on following through on this, there was a very good chance Willow would have combusted.
“What would you have said?”
“I’d say ‘oh hello’ like I was surprised and not even a little bit sweaty and walk her home or wherever she wanted and then before I’d leave I would say like ‘what a plant you are” his voice got deeper as he misquoted himself. “But I don’t know what I’d say between that, I didn’t get to practice that part.”
Willow scrunched her nose as she tried to connect why Hunter’s words sounded so familiar. Then it clicked: in his sickly state he had rearranged the words a bit,but it was like he was attempting to reenact a scene from a book they had talked about. She remembered how he was telling her his Ruler’s Reach theories and she was recommending other books he could read while he waited for the sequel.
She had briefly mentioned (mostly as a joke) one of her guilty pleasures she had read countless times when she was younger. It was a cheesy young adult book about a botanist and a cursed young noble that Willow liked mostly because of the accuracy of how rare plant care was depicted. But she’d be lying if it hadn’t formulated most of her notions about what romance was. Probably the most famous scene was when the monarch comes to the greenhouse looking for a plant that could possibly lift their curse that only the botanist could manage to grow.
“Please be careful with them,” the botanist says as he gently places the pot in the noble’s arms. “They’re very precious to me.”
The young noble pulls down their scarf that they wear to hide the effects of the curse to respond to him in a low, cool voice: “I shall, you have my word.”
The botanist looks up to them with wide, shimmering eyes. “I wasn’t speaking to you.”
They pause (this story had a lot of dramatic pauses and Willow didn’t understand them until much later when she was the one waiting on the other end) and steps closer to him, both of their fingertips lingering on the pot’s edges as they barely touched.
“It’s a beautiful flower,” the royal says quietly.
“It’s the most beautiful flower I have,” he responds, his voice quiet and raspy as his finger lovingly strokes one of the petals. “I hope it will be enough.”
“That’s not the flower I was referring to.” They slowly remove his gardening glove from one of his hands and bring it to their lips and press a gentle kiss to his knuckles, never removing their eyes from his matching gaze. “Thank you for allowing me to be the presence of such a lovely flower.”
Was it cheesey? Yes. Did she read that passage over and over again every night before bed? Yes.
She didn’t realize Hunter had taken her request, she certainly didn’t suspect he had been planning on using it to woo her. It would’ve worked too. Titan, it would’ve worked very well. Willow was thankful her mask hid her blush. She had suspected for awhile that Hunter returned her crush but she didn’t think he had liked her for that long.
“But I never got to because then I got trapped in a mind and then I saw her but it wasn’t her and then when I did I wasn’t in the mask so it wouldn’t be as cool.” Hunter continued to explain, acting as though the poorly summarized series of events was more of an inconvenience when it came to flirting with her and not a major source of trauma. Willow remembered mentioning how seeing him wearing his mask in posters around town reminded her of the noble concealing their identity. She saw now he had taken that small comment as indication that his plan had even more romantic potential.
“Ah! But then I skipped so much! I did it out of order!” groaned Hunter, flopping back onto the couch as his mind reminded him how he had arrived at this tangent.
“What do you mean?”
“Doctor, I kissed her,” Hunter explained with wide panicky eyes. “Like… a real kiss.”
“So? What’s wrong with that?”
“Doctor, you can’t just go around kissing people, what will they think of you? If I kiss Willow and Willow and I aren’t dating then she will think I kissed her because I like winning and she won. I do! I do like winning but I also like… her facccce.” He hissed the soft c on the word as though just mentioning her face hypnotized him. “But I don’t even know if she wanted me to kiss her! And also there might be a curse about kissing your captain! And then I just…ahh! How could I?!”
“But what about when Willow kissed you at Grom?”
“Pssssh, that’s just a Grom thing!” Hunter said as though it was no big deal. “That can’t count because she didn’t even know that I liked her!”
“What if… she kind of did?”
“Wha?”
“What if she did know that you liked her when she kissed you? Would it count then?”
“Well, theeeeen it would uh…” he stopped, clearly speaking before he knew the answer. He considered it, what such an action would mean if Willow knew what he knew. “Well, then that would mean that she… uh… hehehe.” He couldn’t even finish now as he began to laugh hysterically. It was nervous and loud and full, as if it was unsure what it stemmed from, only knowing it was too bostorius to contain. “I mean if she… then we could… I mean… hehehe…”
He lulled himself into a fit of giggles as he indulged himself in the very true hypothetical. Willow had her answer, she had more than enough to reassure her. Nothing was weird between them, well no weirder than it was before their series of misunderstandings. He was still a dork who wanted to be her dork, and he was still planning on striving for that goal. She smiled wide beneath her mask, his giddiness contagious. Then she remembered that was not the only potentially contagious thing about him.
“Well, you should get back to sleep,” she said, seeing him fighting the urge to yawn. She hopped up and made haste of tucking him back in, wanting him to get better as soon as possible. “I should probably get going anyway. Message me if you need anything, okay?”
“Oh I can't, Darius took away my scroll.” Replied Hunter as he buried himself in his vast collection of pillows.
“Really? Why?” She laughed.
“Uh, because he wants Camila to think he’s a good dad,” said Hunter. “She found out how much sugar he lets me eat and she was nooot happy. No feliz.”
“Okay then, just get better soon okay?”
“Yeah, I gotta go get better so I can gotta go and talk to Willow.” He said as he tried to fight back the sleep he so desperately needed. “Goodbye, beautiful eyes. I’ll beam you up, okay… you and your eyes and your dimples and your…” sleep took hold in the middle of his sentence.
“Sweet dreams you dork,” she whispered, blowing him a kiss before heading back up the stairs.
“... who said I was bald? I’m definitely not bald,” Darius finished telling Camila as he sipped his cup of tea as she sat across from him at the kitchen table trying to surpress her smile.
“Hunter said you took away his scroll,” Willow said as she went to cover her ears beneath her hair before heading back out. “How come?”
“He kept writing novels beneath your photos on penstagram,” said Darius, summoning Hunter’s scroll to show her. “Normally, I’d try to help him save face but the little prince ratted me out to Camila and now no one is allowed to have espresso so he’s on my bad side.”
“And here I thought you didn’t have a bad side,” teased Willow as she went to see Hunter’s fever driven words.
Darius smirked. “Ah, I knew there was a reason I liked you, flyer derby girl,” he said. “Hopefully your wisdom will continue to rub off on him.”
“Darius! ¿Qué estás haciendo? You can’t show her those!” Scolded Camila, wiping the smirk clear off Darius’ face. “Ah, why must you embarrass the boy more?”
“What? You were the one who said you’d wanna see the look on her face when she saw them!” Darius countered, angrily sipping his unfortunately non caffeinated beverage.
Camila shook her head in disapproval before revealing a small grin meant only for Willow to see. She giggled. “Oh, but look! He even tried typing some in Spanish!” Camila pointed out excitedly, Willow spotted the words “bonita” and “hermosa” among a collection of usual Hunter misspellings and ramblings.
She looked at the photo he had chosen, it was one he had taken of just the two of them after he had been made lieutenant. Hunter smiled so wide his eyes were closed, his gap tooth on full display. She had her arm around his shoulder, their cheeks pressed together as her eyes were focused on him, captivated by his joy. She remembered she was fighting the overwhelming urge to kiss him and she wondered if he would ever look back and realize that. They were so happy. Regardless of what came next, Willow was certain that wouldn’t change.
—-
“So how are things going with our little plant girl?” Dell asked Hunter as he walked up the hill to his makeshift workshop.
“I mean they’re… going, I guess,” Hunter sighed as a collection of paliman hopped onto his lap, happy to see him after he had been away for so long. “I… told her how I feel.”
“There we go! That’s my boy!” said Dell with vigor and pride. “So when’s the wedding?”
Hunter chuckled nervously as his ears turned crimson. “Well I… told her how I feel but I haven’t asked her anything yet. I got sick so I haven’t been able to plan how to do it so it’s perfect and special and-.”
He was cut off by Dell laughing as he went over to water another palistrom tree. “Oh, we should start a club, you and I,”
“Really? Why?”
“We both fell for strong, vibrant women,” he said fondly. “Why, when I met Gwen I didn’t know which way was up I’d get so nervous around her. But her? Oh, she was always this bright outgoing thing, I thought there’s no way she’d go for someone like me. So one day, we spent the whole day together doing all our favorite things and I walked her home and I’m so nervous I’m sweating through my new dress shirt. I was determined to tell her how I felt if it killed me, and with the way my heart was beating I thought it just might. I’m rambling and saying too much and nothing at the same time and she just stands there, not opening the door. I know she has a curfew so I’m rushing but she doesn’t seem in any kind of hurry. And so I ask her ‘did you forget your keys?’ Thinking she left them somewhere and I’m gonna go retrace our steps and see where they might be. And she says ‘no, I’m waiting for you to stop talking to I can kiss you.’”
“So what did you do?”
“I’ve never shut up quicker in my life,” he said with a grin. “My point is: I understand wanting to do it right and make it perfect but at the end of the day, the important thing is that it happens. That’s what she really cares about.”
“Really?”
“I’ve seen the way she looks at you,” smirked Dell. “I’ve heard her talk about you when you’re not here, the way she asks about you, she’s quite taken with you.”
“Oh, well I don’t know about that…”
“While you’ve been away, she’s been coming by and singing to the trees,” Dell recalled, “There’s a new spring in her step, and given what you’ve told me I think I know why.”
Hunter’s face turned totally crimson. He had been told Willow had come to see him a few times, but his symptoms went strong for a solid three days and those days were very much a blur. Luz confirmed she had stopped by but said he had slept the entire time, but the new plant that would appear beside his bedside confirmed that she had been there. He wanted to see her now that he was well, but he didn’t want to delay this next step. When he saw her next, he wanted to be ready.
“I just… don’t know what to ask her.”
“What do you mean? You just ask her if she wants to go out with you, don’t you?”
“Okay, but do I ask her out or to go out?”
“Uh… what’s the difference?”
“Well, she knows I like her so the next logical step would be to advance the friendship past simply being just friends,” explained Hunter. “But, do we need a trial field experience before officially labeling it?”
“What?”
“Okay, do I ask Willow out on a date to see if she would be able to return my feelings or do I simply skip that and jump right into asking her to be my girlfriend?” Said Hunter as he stood up and began to pace, the paliman following closely behind. “Because if I ask her to skip too many steps too soon it may come off the wrong way. Like, if I ask her to be my girlfriend and she’d rather go on a date first, she might feel rushed but if I ask her on the date and she’d rather skip that part she might think I’m not confident in our future together.”
“Courting certainly has changed since my day,”chuckled Dell as he saw the confusion spread amongst the palisman that rested on his shoulders. “I’m sure she’ll say yes to whatever you ask her.”
“But I wanna ask her the right thing,” said Hunter in a low voice, as he sunk back into his stump.
“Ya know, you remind me of another teenager I knew who agonized over the same thing with another headstrong, mischievous witch.”
“Really? What did they do?”
---
Hunter frantically pounded the front door of the Owl House. “Hello?” he called as though it was an emergency. “HELLO!
“Hellooooooo.” said Hooty as he entered his window twisting and singing as his energy directly contrasted Hunter’s.
“Hooty!” said Hunter, trying to see past him. “Is Raine home?”
“Whyyyyyy?”
“I was hoping they could help me with something.” Hunter said, knowing it was always best to give Hooty as little information as possible.
“Tell me more, tell me more,” sang Hooty. “Knowledge is power!”
“I want their help with a song,” said Hunter, not wanting to waste any more time. “Dell told me that’s how they asked Eda out when they were younger because they didn’t know what to say and I thought that maybe they could-.”
“Oh! Are you trying to learn how to play the violin?”
“No! I want to ask Willow out!”
“Willoooooow! Hoot hoot! Bout time you two made it official, huh?” Hooty asked, raising his eyebrows and making Hunter blush in frustration. “This is a big moment! Can I sing at your wedding?”
What was it with everyone jumping to marriage so suddenly? “Look, is Raine home or not?”
“No! Sorry! Oh! But Lulu is here! I can get her! She knows eeeeverything!”
“What! No! I- er!”
A few moments later, Lilith arrived at the door.
“Oh, hello Hunter,” she said, still adjusting to using his name and not his title with clear disdain in her voice. “How can I help you?”
“I’m looking for Raine because I need help asking Willow something,” summarized Hunter.
“Oh, yes Hooty mentioned you held romantic feelings for her,” said Lillith, adjusting her glasses. “When he found me he was crying about how adorable your children will look.”
“Listen, I can come back later if you can just tell Raine that I stopped by or better yet let me know where they-.”
“Well, are you two compatible?”
“What?”
“Well, I know you have some… hormone thing occurring,” said Lilith, gesturing vaguely to all of him. “Which, based on her pupil dilation when you’re around each other and the giggly suggestion of your peers I can assume is somewhat mutual. But a relationship of any sort requires structure. Romance can only last so long, I assume. But is there a base for a solid partnership between the two of you?”
“Yes? I mean, we’re good friends and I really like her-.”
“Are you aware of any allergies she may have?”
“Um… shellfish?”
“Do you happen to know the prescription for her glasses?”
“Um not off the top of my head but I have her old pair in my flyer derby bag in case the gold ones break if-.”
“And who would be her primary emergency contact?”
“Um her dads, I think I have Harvey’s- wait, what is this for?” Hunter demanded, realizing she was writing his answers down.
“Oh, for Hooty to better compose your course, of course.”
“What?”
“Well, when Luz and Amity first became a couple, Hootsipher wrote to me and explained how he was an integral part in the occurrence,” said Lilith with utter delight. “So it stands to reason that he would be the best one to assist you and Willow as well!”
“What? No! I didn’t want Hooty’s help. I came here for Raine!”
“Oh, well Raine’s not home.”
“I know that, I just-
“Well if you knew that then why did you fill out our questionnaire?”
“I didn’t want to fill out any questionnaire! I didn’t want Hooty’s help at all!”
“Oh…” said Lilltih, looking behind Hunter with a worried face. “Well, I’m afraid it may be too late for that.”
“Why?”
“Because he’s just arrived with Willow.”
“WHAT? HOW DID HE-.” but before Hunter could finish his question, he was swept off his feet by an overwhelming force. Everything went black.
When he came to, the first thing Hunter realized was that he had no idea where he was. The walls were tall and dark as though he was in a cave. The ground where he sat was cold and hard, and he could not locate a breeze which suggested they were deep under the ground. He remembered Hooty was involved so he didn’t feel as though he was in imminent danger, but he still felt uneasy.
The second thing he realized was that he was not alone.
“Ugh, what happened?” said the disoriented voice beside him. Directly beside him.
“Captain!” exclaimed Hunter in a panic, rising to his feet when he realized how close they were. When Hooty had so unceremoniously dumped them on the ground, he had placed Willow atop his chest. Hunter had no idea how long they had been here. “Willow! Hey! Hi! You’re here!”
“Hi,” she chuckled, reaching up to take his hand as he offered to help her off the ground. “So where is ‘here,’ exactly?”
“HIIIIIIII!” echoed a high pitch yet menacing voice that seemed to come from the very walls themselves.
“Oh no,” Hunter whispered. “Willow, I’m so sorry.”
“For what?”
“For this!” replied the bird tube thing, emerging from the shadows to capture them once more. He quickly ran a circle around them to wrap himself around the pair, trapping their arms at their sides and them beside each other.
“Hooty?” said Willow, his presence always offering some form of confusion.
“That’s riiight! Hooty and Hunter! Call us the H-Team!”
“Please do not call us that,” whispered Hunter.
“Hooty, what is this? Where are we?” Willow asked.
“You’re at the first day of the rest of your lives!” Hooty said with delight as he proceeded to move forward. Still holding onto the confused pair, they only became closer in Hooty’s grasp as he transported them to their destination at full speed.
“That didn’t answer my question,” said Willow, the side of her face smushed against Hunter’s. His eyes were wide in horror and his cheeks were flushed at the close proximity to Willow. He became more confused by the second.
“Oh I think you’re the one who will be answering a question hoot hoot!” Hooty said, trying to suppress his giggles.
“What? What do you- woah!”
Suddenly, Willow and Hunter were sailing back to the ground. It was just as hard and cold, but the air was different somehow. Instinctively, Willow and Hunter rose to their feet and delved into a fighting stance, ready for anything. Willow summoned a vine to guard her and Hunter as Hooty sunk away into the darkness. Suddenly, the darkness vanished into a sea of green and gold neon all around them.
CAPTAIN OF MY HEART
WILL-OW YOU BEE MINE?
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FLOWER IN THE GARDEN
“Hooty! Take us back to the Owl House, please!” Hunter called into the void, panicking at his inability to hide the drafts of his confessions from Willow’s view, unaware that she was absolutely captivated. “Now! Haha, or better yet back in time!”
“Love eternal or your money back guaranteed, hoot!” Hooty said happily from somewhere unknown, ignoring Hunter’s frustration.
“I didn’t give you any money!” Hunter insisted before turning to Willow. “I didn’t give him any money, I swear I had nothing to do with this… whatever this is.”
“Hooty’s tunnel of love has a 100% success rate,” said the bird tube, his voice moving from one side of the room to the other. “And it’s about to have 200%, hoot hoot!”
“That’s not how percentages work!” Hunter exclaimed, his face reddening.
Willow could tell Hunter’s latest attempt at a grand gesture had been hijacked by Hooty. She took it as a good sign. Not the hijacking, the fact that there was something to hijack. It meant he was ready, that she hadn’t been rushing him. He wanted the moment to be memorable, private, unique. Two out of three wasn’t bad.
As far as Willow was concerned, it didn’t have to be perfect. It would be perfect so long as it happened.
“Hunter, you don’t need to be-.”
But before Willow could finish, the ground shifted beneath their feet. It slanted, quickly launching them both down as they attempted to steady themselves and regain their balance. It was then Willow realized Clover was not with her and she could not simply fly her and Hunter to safety. She adjusted her footing and reached out to find Hunter’s hand as they helped steady themselves preparing for the impact of the incline ending.
“Well,” breathed Willow with a smile once they reached level ground again. She gave his hand a gentle squad e, as though to prompt him to do the talking before Hooty reentered the scene. “That wasn’t so bad, right?”
“Right,” chuckled Hunter, finding the strength to squeeze her hand back. “I uh, I don’t really know what’s going on.”
Willow laced her fingers through his, pulling him closer to her. “I think I do.”
He took a deep breath. He could just say it right now. Things were quiet, and peaceful. There was no reason to keep prolonging it, there was no reason not to seize this moment with just the two of them, there was no-.”
“There’s fire?” Willow said, both horrified and intrigued. Hunter turned his head and saw that she was right as a ring of fire formed around them and began to rise.
“The fires of love!” Hooty exclaimed in a dented laugh and the flames grew higher. Didn’t Amity and Luz get a boat ride? The fire was a step up, Willow had to admit.
Before she could summon a flower to carry them away or remember a spell for something to douse them, Hunter leapt forward and teleported her outside the fire wall. She heard a collection of explosions echo around them, suggesting Hooty had planted several fire pits throughout the void as she felt Hunter dodge and run between them to secure a safe spot. He stopped for a moment to check on the plant girl residing in his arms, attempting to continue shielding her from the rapidly random dangers around them as he held her in a small but secure dip.
“Are you okay?” He panted.
“Uh huh,” she said so faintly it was almost inaudible. The blaze of the fire traveling behind him made his brown eyes shine like amber embers. He held up mere inches above the ground, one hand securing her waist and the other cradled her head. Despite the chaos occurring around them, Willow felt safe in Hunter’s arms. She couldn’t help but think that if he just leaned down a little more they would be close enough to-
“Hold on, I’ll get us out of here,” said Hunter effortlessly scooping her into his arms. It wasn’t the first time he had done this but it made her heart race all the same. They way he held her like she was something precious, like he wanted her close but was afraid of holding her too tightly. She remained there in stunned silence for a moment, taking in his profile up close. She had always found his sharp jawline so incredibly handsome, and under the circumstances he was too distracted to see her swoon. There was no other word for it, his determination shone so brightly in his face and features the same way it did when he was focused on a book or match. Willow could see no higher honor than being something Hunter focused on.
She knew that despite Hooty’s… hootiness, they were most likely not in real danger. They had definitely been in deadlier situations. Or maybe that was her brain making excuses so she could ogle him without being interrupted. Or maybe this was part of Hooty’s plan. Either way, she was gonna do it.
Just as they were certain they had escaped the fire portion of it all, Hooty sent a collection of spheres hurtling towards the pair. Hunter dodge them but they seemed to come from every direction and he couldn’t focus on dodging them and looking for an exit simultaneously. Willow recognized them as grudgby balls and figured they were probably Eda’s from when she used to play. Willow had plenty of experience dodging these and leapt from Hunter's arm to summon a large flower to catch the first one before it could hit them. The balls came quicker and in larger quantities as Willow skillfully surrounded them with a garden of protection, the flowers catching them and spitting them out toward an unseen attacker. She was too focused on protecting Hunter to see him staring at her with wide, adoring eyes.
“Look for a way out!” She called, having no difficulty capturing balls but having a feeling that this could go on for hours.
“Right!” Hunter said with a nod as he tried to see past the lights of neon and fire for something that looked out of place in the unique collection of chaos. Above them, he saw a glimmer of dull light. It seemed unfitting of Hooty’s aesthetic and Hunter knew that must be the way out. He leapt forward and grabbed Willow’s waist as he laughed them into the air towards the freckle of light.
They found themselves safe and sound outside the Owl House, collapsing to the ground as they tried to catch their breath.
Willow thought this would be a funny story they told the way Amity and Luz did, a jump start
“I’m sorry Willow, this was a disaster,” groaned Hunter, much to her surprise and dismay. “I ruined everything. I had one shot and I blew it. Luz was right, I do overcomplicate things.”
“Hey,” said Willow as she say up, placing her hand atop his. “You didn’t ruin anything. I know how Hooty can be and we’re okay and I mean, it was at least interesting, right? It was a good training regime, maybe we can incorporate it into practice.”
He smiled in spite of himself. She always had a way of making him smile even when he had no right to. She was too good and she deserved the world, and he couldn’t even give her a decent confession.
“It’s just that I… wanted to ask you something and I thought that if I made a big enough display it might impress you so you would-.”
He stopped himself when he looked up and saw how close her face was to his as she clung to his words with wide eyes and baited breath. “So I would …what?” She asked softly.
“So you would… nevermind.” but just as he was gaining momentum, he lost his nerve. How could he possibly confess his adoration in the shadow of his failure? He swore the next time he saw her, he would sweep her off her feet. Instead, his feelings had nearly gotten her killed. Surely if she didn’t turn him down now it would be out of pity. Hunter stood up, fists clenched as he tried to shake his frustration enough to continue talking before he went to teleport away. “Clearly that wasn’t the way either. Maybe there just isn’t… I’m sorry you came all this way for nothing. I’ll see you tomorrow at school, Captain.”
No! He was so close! How could he not see how totally crazy she was about him? That she didn’t care what they did or where they were as long as they got to be together. But it didn’t matter how many times she said she was having a great time becuse he wasn’t listening to her, he was trapped in his own head. He was so stuck on his high expectations that he couldn’t see that she didn’t care about the bells and whistles, she only wanted him. She didn’t care if it was awkward or rushed or messy so long as it was real. So long as it happened.
She knew that getting this right was important to him. But she wouldn’t let that happen at the expense of his self worth. She wouldn’t hold her tongue a minute longer, not when the sweetest person she knew felt like he wasn’t good enough for her.
He had tried doing it in so many different ways, asking other people for advice. But at the end of the day, there was only one side-fire way to assure him this was the right time.
“Hey, you!” She called before a Hunter could get too far away. He stopped to look down at her but before he could respond, he was captured mid- teleport by a mighty vine. It wrapped around him, trapping his arms to the sides before pulling him down to earth and dragging him through the dirt before landing a few feet in front of Willow.
She had her head down, which allowed her eyes to be hidden and the light glared in the lenses making her face unreadable. Hunter prepared himself for the worst. Would she call him a fool? Would she tell him to give up?
Hunter held his breath as she slowly lifted her head, bracing himself for a swift rejection.
“Do you wanna be my boyfriend?”

Mistletoe
I'm tagging @avatarmerida because I know she'll love this one!
Happy holidays to all who celebrate! (All who don't, happy December!)
________________________________________________________________
"Amity! Amity! Amity!" Luz called out, excitedly and a little too loudly. She was eagerly pointing at the ceiling, where she'd just got done hanging up a tiny piece of mistletoe.
Gus, Vee and Willow were sitting at the kitchen table, trying to make gingerbread cookies. Vee was making sure they had actual supervision this time, that way they might actually cook up something good that wouldn't make Luz and Camila sick. However, once they heard their human friend yelling, all 3 of them stopped to look at what she was up to.
Amity walked towards her girlfriend, annoyed but happy.
"Again? You know, if you want to kiss me, you can just say it," she shook her head with a laugh.
"Aww, but that takes the fun out of it!" her human girlfriend pouted.
"What? Kissing me is only fun when it's under a plant? Is that what you're telling me?" Amity smirked.
"What?! No! I didn't say that! I just meant-"
"Come here," the witch roller her eyes before grabbing the human's face and pulling her into a loving kiss. Luz's hands went to Amity's waist, Amity's hands stayed on Luz's cheeks. Amity's leg went up like it always did.
As they kissed, the other 3 each had different reactions. Gus laughed, made a fake gagging noise and pretended to throw up on the cookies. Vee cooed and then grabbed the cookies before Gus could throw up on them. Willow pulled out her camera and took a picture of the lovebirds, deciding to include it on her holiday scrapbook.
When Amity and Luz finally stopped kissing, both of their faces were red.
"You guys just love PDA, don't you?" asked Gus.
"Is it really PDA when there's only 5 people here?" replied Luz, letting go off her girlfriend.
"Whatever, pass me the oven mits, I'm putting these in the oven before something else goes wrong," ordered Vee.
Gus passed her the oven mits and watched as she put the cookies in the oven.
Willow, on the other hand, went to the 2 girlfriends. Her curiosity was peaked.
"Hey, Luz, I need to ask; what's with the mistletoe?"
"Oh yeah! I didn't tell you guys about this, didn't I?"
Willow shook her head.
Camila had been kind enough to welcome Gus, Willow and Amity to stay at the Noceda house for this Human holiday called 'Christmas'. It looked really similar to the Demon holiday 'Krampus Night', but it also had some differences. Luz had been teaching them all about the stories and traditions over the past few days, but it looked like she never ran out of things to show them.
"When it's Christmas time, we sometimes hang mistletoe up on doorways or from the ceiling or we just hold it over our heads or wear it on our hair," Luz explained "the tradition dictates that if you and another person end up under the mistletoe, you have to kiss them. Primarily on the lips, but not necessarily."
"It's like a fun, little game that makes Christmas more romantic," added Amity. Luz had obviously explained this to her already.
"Interesting," commented Willow, scratching her chin as she came up with an idea.
Hunter and Willow had been dating for almost a month now, their relationship was still fresh. They had been getting more affectionate than before, with hugs that lasted longer and kisses on the cheek or forehead and holding hands. But they hadn't kissed on the lips yet. Willow understood that Hunter was waiting for the right moment and she knew better than to rush him.
But she could maybe nudge him in the right direction by creating the right moment... right?
She went down to the basement, where her boyfriend was working on something on the sewing machine. He was wearing his glasses and he had his tongue out in concentration.
"Hi, Hunter."
"Oh, hey, Captain," he greeted without looking up.
"Whatcha working on?" she sat down in front of him, crossing her legs and tapping her knees like she did sometimes.
"Luz said a crucial part of Christmas is silly, matching outfits," he explained "primarily personalized sweaters, so I'm making a sweater for each one of us so we can take a picture on Christmas day. Look, I'm already done with Camila's!"
He proudly held up a large, red sweater with a million different patches and embroidery on it. Amongst them, there was a Dominican Republic flag, a yellow planet with many rings and a patch that read 'BEST MOM'.
Hunter was smiling so bright, it was contagious. He was so cute.
“Oh, Hunter, that’s so sweet! I’m sure she’s gonna love it!”
The Grimwalker blushed happily as he went back to his work. Willow always made sure to compliment him at every chance she got because his reaction was always worth it.
“Caaaaan I see mine?” she asked playfully.
“Ah, ah, ah!” he wagged his finger, as if he was reprimanding her  “you know how I feel about spoilers! you have to wait until Christmas like everyone else.”
She laughed. “Fine.”
She watched him work a little more before deciding to act on her plan. The plant witch drew a circle in the air with her finger, making a long chain of mistletoe appear in front of them, hanging from the ceiling. Hunter noticed it and looked up. He saw his girlfriend smiling at him, expectantly, sitting under the mistletoe with a blush on her cheeks. He raised an eyebrow at her, confused. But, then, his knowledgeable brain provided him with a possible answer and he frowned.
“Um, Captain, are you okay? is something wrong?”
“I’m fine, everything’s great, actually,” she smiled, still hopeful.
“Are you sure? you know you can tell me anything, right?”
“Yeah, I know. I promise, everything is awesome.”
“Are you mad about the sweater? you just have to wait a few days, it won’t be long,” he tried to reassure her.
“It’s fine, Hunter, really,” she laughed “I can be patient.”
“Then why-?” he was about to ask but then he got interrupted.
“Hey, guys! the cookies are finished! come upstairs!” Gus called out from the kitchen.
The couple looked at each other for a second before they both got up from their seats to go.
“We can talk later,” she said, simply. As if that explained everything.
Then, she kissed him on the cheek. If she wasn’t gonna get a mistletoe kiss on the lips, she was at least getting a tiny peck. Hunter was now completely bewildered, and his face was red again. But yeah, they could talk about whatever was bothering her later, there didn’t seem to be an urgency. He took off his glasses and they both went upstairs with everyone else.
This kept going for a few more days. Everytime Hunter and Willow were alone in a room together, Willow would magically create a mistletoe on the ceiling over their heads and stare at him. It was weird, to say the least. Hunter knew that Willow always made plants appear when she was having really strong emotions, like how her hair had filled with flowers when he first asked her out. He also knew that mistletoe was a poisonous plant, its consumption fatal for both witches and humans. So, he thought, the logical conclusion was that Willow was upset about something but, whenever he asked, she always said she was fine. He was simply at a loss for what to do.
Finally, he decided to go to Luz for advice. Luz was in her bedroom with Amity, sitting on the lower bunk bed, watching something she’d referred to as a ‘Christmas Rom-Com’ while her witch girlfriend braided her hair.
“Hi, guys, I need help with something.”
“Yeah, okay. What’s up, bro?” Luz paused the movie to let him talk.
“I think Willow is angry with me,” he confessed, obviously upset.
“What did you do?” Amity asked, more focused on her love’s hair than on her friend’s problem.
“Amity! don’t be rude!” Luz went back to her honorary brother  “what makes you think she’s angry with you? I thought you guys were fine.”
“I thought so, too, but now, everytime we’re alone together, she makes mistletoe appear,” he said this like it was an obvious tragedy.
“So?” Luz shrugged.
“So? SO?! Luz, mistletoe is a poisonous plant! it’s toxic! Willow makes plants appear when she’s having really strong emotions and the plants always relate to her feelings,” he started walking in circles  “soooo... if she’s making mistletoe appear when she’s with me and mistletoe is a toxic plant, she must be mad about something. Oh Titan, what if she breaks up with me? what am I supposed to do with her Christmas gift if she breaks up with me before Christmas?”
“Hunter, even if she was mad, she’s not gonna dump you during the holidays,” Amity tried to be logical  “that’s like the worst possible time to break up with someone.”
Luz laughed and started singing. “Last Christmas I gave you my heart but, the very next day, you gave it away.”
Amity stopped braiding her hair and Hunter stopped pacing, they both looked at her confused.
“It’s a human song,” she said, easily, before going back to the matter at hand  “Hunter, I don’t think Willow is mad at you. But, if you don’t believe me, ask her!”
“I already asked her, she keeps saying everything is fine but I can tell she’s not being completely honest.”
“Did you actually ask her about the mistletoe?” Amity said, hands on her Batata’s hair once more.
“I... no.”
“Then ask her about the stupid plant. Don’t make a big deal out of it, just talk to your girlfriend, be direct with her,” the purple witch said  “if I learned anything with Luz, is that communication and honesty is important in relationships.”
“Awww,” Luz swooned. Her awesome girlfriend was so mature.
“Okay, I’ll talk to her,” Hunter resigned  “thanks for the advice, girls.”
“Good luck!” Luz told Hunter as he left. Then, she said to Amity:  “10 Snails says they end up making out.”
“I think I know better than to bet against you now,” Amity said, remembering all the money she’d lost when Willow said yes to going out with Hunter.
“Yeah, okay.”
The Grimwalker found his partner in the living room, working on her holiday scrapbook. She was trying to make the perfect paper snowflake to stick between a picture of Gus catching snow with his tongue and another picture of Vee making a snow Basilisk. When Willow saw him, she left her project to go hug him. He hugged her back, always happy to do so.
“Hunter! hi!”
“Hey, Willow? can we talk?”
“Yeah, okay,” she sat back down on the couch and patted the space next to her. He sat.
“Every time we’re alone, I’ve noticed you keep making mistletoe appear,” he started.
“You noticed?”
“Yeah, and I don’t really understand what it means... I know mistletoe is a poisonous plant, so I thought that maybe you were angry with me about something? but every time I asked, you always said you were fine, so I just got more confused...”
“Oh, Hunter,” Willow laughed.
“I know I’m not very good at this relationship thing but I don’t like that you’re giving me mixed signals and I understand if you want to break up with me but-”
“Hunter, that’s not what the mistletoe means.”
“Then, what does it mean?”
“I mean, you’re right, mistletoe is poisonous. You definitely should not eat it,” she clarified  “but Luz told me that humans like to use it as Christmas decoration. They hang it up on doorways and stuff and it’s supposed to be like a game. The rules are, if you and another person are under the mistletoe together, you have to kiss... like, on the lips.”
“Oh,” Hunter said, then he took a moment to think about what that meant and finally understood  “ooooooooh, you were... ooooooooh...”
His face was now bright red at the thought. He was somehow relieved and embarrassed at the same time. What a strange combination of emotions.
“Yeah, oh.”
“Why didn’t you just ask me?”
“I didn’t want to pressure you if you weren’t ready. I didn’t want to rush you. But I thought... if I dropped some hints that I wanted you to kiss me, you would feel more comfortable doing it when you were ready.”
“Aww, that’s sweet, Willow,” Hunter smiled  “but I think you need to stop dropping hints, I’m never good at picking them up.”
They both laughed, it was true. Then, he realized.... if she wanted him to kiss her... then...
He slowly moved both hands to her face and held her softly. Willow looked at him, blushing and hopeful. They both looked at each other for a second, quietly asking for permission before Hunter finally went and did it.
It wasn’t a very long kiss but it felt right. His hands remained on her face while hers went to his hair. They could feel each other smiling. Willow felt him sigh in content as he relaxed and that sigh made her shiver a little. They pulled each other closer. The kiss would’ve gone longer if they didn’t suddenly forget how to breathe.
When they stopped, Hunter saw his girlfriend’s hair was full of beautiful, colorful plants. Mainly holly, Christmas roses and, of course, mistletoe. He took a moment to admire her before laughing again.
“Next time you want to kiss me, just tell me.”
“Oh, but that takes the fun out of it!”

HUNTLOW WEEK FIRST PROMPT!
HALLOWEEN/HOOTY!!
//TIME FRAME//:THE HALLOWEEN AFTER WAD//WARNINGS:
Luz is American and therefore would use American English words, but I am a British English (mainly) speaker, so if I mention something that is not American or does not exist in America, I apologise. Example: Lollies VS candy. I use lollies and America (apparently, not gonna assume) uses candy. I’ll try to use the correct terminology, but in all due respect, this is Fanfiction, not a published novel from the greatest writer in the world.
References: MOVIE: A Quiet Place//NETFLIX//M RATED//HORROR/SCI-FI//(Recommend, good 👍)
Hunter picked up his scroll as a notification pinged on the screen. Luz.

HALLOWEEN PARTYYYY!

Hunter cursed himself under his breath. Why did he say yes because Willow was going to be there? He knew now that his feelings for her were called ‘romantic’ and ‘a crush’, but all he’s going to get is teasing and he knows it. He sighed, getting off of his computer that Camila had given him. He walked downstairs, still cursing himself.
“Uh- Darius?” Hunter asked cautiously. Not his first time asking about something, but something about this made him feel nervous.
“Yes, little prince?”
“Uh, Luz has invited me to a ‘halloween party’. Can I go?” Hunter twiddled his thumbs together. Darius gave him a blank look.
“Yeah sure,” Darius replied. “Not like we are doing anything.” He placed a glass of Clawhey’s Extra Strong Boor on the table. “I’m having someone over anyways. Not like it’ll inconvenience that.”
Hunter nodded as if taking this very seriously. “Right. But uh, you were a teenager once right?”
Darius gave him a confused stare. “No way.” he snorted. “Thought I was born at forty-five.”
Hunter blushed. “That’s not- I mean-” He spluttered frantically. “How do you like… wow someone?” Cringy jazz hands were displayed to Darius in hope of them somehow increasing the knowledge to the situation.
“You want to impress someone?” Darius’s curiosity arose, despite having a very good idea of who.
“N-no! It’s like.. Hypothetically…?” Hunter stuttered awkwardly, his tooth gap showing as his face progressively turned a brighter hue of red.
“Well your Captain likes flowers so-” he cut himself off to admire the beautiful shade his son’s face, ears and apparently arms had so quickly turned to after the mention of his captain.
“Ex-excuse me!?” Hunter spluttered. “Who said this had anything to do with-”
“Hunter, I’m not stupid. You talk about her twenty-four/seven. There are pictures of her on your desk. And I found one under your pillow. Don’t play dumb. Like… everyone except her knows you are soft for her.” Darius continued, purely to annoy Hunter to the point where the boy’s body turns the same shade of crimson that his ears had. Hunter’s jaw had dropped so much that Darius could stuff Hunter’s ‘secret’ bi flag in it. Darius’s lips curled into a smirk.
“What, little prince?” his smirk only grew, Hunter becoming speechless. The blonde boy made a series of intelligible noises, each one being understandable in every way possible to his adoptive father’s ears. Darius shook his head.
“Go get ready.” he instructed the stuttering, hormonal teenage boy. Hunter shut his eyes and just accepted this.
“Will do.” he squeaked.

Hunter turned up at The Owl House cautiously. He knocked.
“Hooty, who is it?” Luz’s voice yelled. Hooty stuck his head out the window.
“Hoot hoot! It’s the weird blonde kid with the crush on Willow!” Hooty shouted back to Luz. Hunter blushed furiously.
“HOOTY!” he hissed. “My name is Hunter!” Hunter paused. “And I don’t have a crush on Willow.” he flushed, rubbing his arm. He looked down.
“Suuuuuuuurre!” Hooty mocked him. “I read the thing you wrote.”
Hunter’s head whipped up, flashback of the notebook he’d written his feelings in. TITAN! Hunter panicked.
“What writing?” he faltered, failing to hide the fact he had, in fact, written something a little bit… hormonal, to say it one way.
(:O Not like dat you dirty mind >:O)
“Don’t try to hide it with the names ‘O’Bailey’ and ‘Lily’. We aaaaallll know it’s just Hunter and Willowww!” Hooty nodded. Hunter sighed in relief. Hooty had only found his O’Bailey X Lily fanfiction. Not his diary. Hooty continued to babble on about his fanfiction, while Luz came to the door and let Hunter in.
“Even Hooty knows you have a massive crush on Willow, Hunter! How does she not realise it?!”
“Shhh Luz!” Hunter snapped.
“She’s not here, stop worrying.”
Luz complained impatiently. “Why can’t you just ask her out! You’re worse than me and Amity!”
A small gasp was heard from the room beside them, just as they were about to walk in.
“We weren’t that bad!” Amity’s lip wobbled fakely. Luz just smiled and shook her head. Hunter and Luz sat down with Amity, Gus and Vee. Now they were only waiting on Willow.
*WILLOW FINALLY TURNS UP :D*
“Willow!” Luz greeted her friend with a hug. Hunter smiled adoringly, watching from just beside the walls to the next room.
“Whatcha lookin’ at, kid?”
Hunter whipped around and smacked Eda in the face in a fight response.
“EDA!” he snapped. “You frightened me!”
Eda gifted Hunter with a rude stare. Raine showed up beside her.
“He’s looking at Willow.” Raine explained. “Haven't you noticed his extremely noticeable crush?”
Eda looked at Raine blankly. She shook her head. Raine sighed, abandoning any plan to try and help Eda understand. It wasn’t going to work. Hunter proceeded to turn what now seemed to be his face’s normal colour. He dismissed them both, walking back to the room. He could hear Willow’s footsteps as her and Luz approached the room. While Willow came in and sat down, Luz walked straight past the door. She started into a sprint, quite quickly coming back with small black boxes. She handed one to each of them.
“I got us all a little something. I know Hallween is a one-night thing, but you can use these whenever you want!” she exclaimed excitedly. Gus went straight into ripping his open.
“Oh, cool!” Gus grinned, pulling out a pair of bat pyjamas. Willow’s eyes lit up at the sight of Gus’s present. She opened hers as quickly as Gus had opened his. But in a more calm manner. She pulled out some black pumpkin pyjamas with vines all over the sleeves.
“Awww!” She held the cloth up to her face. “Thank you Luz!”
The rest of them, now intrigued, opened theirs. Amity pulled out a pair with black cats on them, while Vee found a witchy themed one in her hands. Hunter was the last to do so, and he took out his own one, which had werewolves on them. Forgetting where he was, and only caring about the fact they had wolves on them, Hunter’s eyes became wide as pans and seemed to shimmer. He hugged the pyjamas. The rest of the group giggled, and Hunter snapped back to reality. He coughed.
“I mean they’re cool I guess.” Hunter mumbled. Willow giggled softly and Hunter turned to her. His face returned to the carmine colour it has been so frequently this week. Willow thought that was cute.
“Heh, your face is all red.” she giggled. Hunter went a brighter shade of ruby. Luz clapped her hand together loudly, snapping everyone’s attention back to her.
“I wanted to go trick-or-treating but I decided that if I just bought the candy and we had a halloween sleepover it would be cool?” Luz explained.
“Yeah!” Hunter smiled, still ecstatic about his new pyjamas. He’s adorable… Willow thought. Without any warning, Luz pulled out a bag from under her bed and then proceeded to pull out bags of candy. Starbursts, Skittles, M&M’s, random chocolate bars that nobody bothered to read the label on. Though it probably wasn’t the best idea, Luz put on a movie on the TV she’d managed to shove through the portal, and they watched a movie while eating tons of candy. Luz had found a horror movie called A Quiet Place. They all huddled together on the couch.
“This might be a bit scary.” Luz announced quite loudly. Hunter, not waiting to show fear even though after reading the description was terrified, he smirked.
“The only one who would be scared is you, Luz. I’ve lived as the Golden Guard on the Boiling Isles for as long as I can remember.”
Luz grinned. “Of course, Hunter.” she nodded solemnly. “You are the strongest of them all.” she bowed to him. Hunter did not appreciate the mock. Luz turned the lights off and they sat down, facing the TV, Vee was on the very far right end, then Amity, Luz, Hunter, Willow, Gus.
“Whatever Luz. I guess we will see when the movie starts.”
*ABOUT 10 MINUTES IN*
Hunter was tense. Not a little bit, he was really really tense. The suspense of the movie scared him. The fact that there was no talking was freaky. The blanket Hunter had somehow acquired at some point during the movie was only allowing his eyes to be shown.he was wrapped up in it, but Luz being the sibling she is, decided to steal it.
“Hey!” Hunter whined. “I was using that!” Luz just snickered.
“Lol do not caaare!” she sang. Hunter whimpered. That was his safe space! He turned back to the movie, curling up timidly. A minute later, he got a tap on the shoulder.
“We can share if you want.” a small, soft voice whispered. Hunter turned to see Willow holding her blanket open. He blushed furiously, hoping the fact that the lights were off hid it.
“Itsfineiamok.” Hunter mumbled quickly. (It’s fine I am ok). Willow beckoned him to share with her. He tried to say no but she didn’t give up. His blush did not calm down as he finally agreed. He moved over a little bit. Willow noticed he was shy, and moved the rest of the way for him. She wrapped the blanket around him and moved a tiny bit closer. Their shoulders were touching, and Willow decided to close the small gap they had between them. She leant on him, unaware of the dark scarlet colour that had just overtaken the small ruby hue that dusted his cheeks. Slowly, due to the lack of noise, Willow fell asleep. Her head rested on Hunter’s shoulder. Usually, she’d be snoring. But she’d knocked herself out with sugar.
Oh my Titan… Hunter whined inwardly. She looks so peaceful and beautiful when she sleeps… maybe I should… hmm…
And to that thought, Hunter’s mind shut down and sleep overtook him. His head fell onto Willow’s. Absent-mindedly, Hunter’s body decided that Willow was a stuffed toy and he hugged her firmly.
MEANWHILE>>>
“OH MY TITANNNNN!” Luz whispered urgently. “EEEEEEEEEEE!”
Amity looked at her girlfriend, then saw the scene behind her.
“Ew.” Amity retched quietly.
“QUICK AMITY WHERE THE TITAN IS MY PHONE?!” Luz panicked. She fumbled the blankets as quietly as she could to find it.
“Hehe blackmail.” was the last thing she said before taking the photo and falling asleep with Amity.

Honestly, I feel really conflicted about the Collector.
On one hand, ‘For the Future’ did make me care about him as a character, whereas I couldn’t care less before, but on the other hand, I’m not gonna lie, I also agree with the people who think he shouldn’t have been in the story at all, and that Belos should’ve remained the only central antagonist.
Even with all the sympathy I have for the Collector, they’re just not that interesting. They’re more endearing now that we’ve seen what they’re like, but they don’t have much of an interesting theme going on the way Belos does, and their presence doesn’t feel as impactful. Sure, they’re cute, and I feel bad for them, but they’re just kinda there.
If they were taken out of the story, it wouldn’t really change that much until the season 2 finale, the writers would just have to come up with another way to stop the Draining Spell, and also a different explanation for how Belos got his hands on it (and the red magic he uses with his hands and staff) in the first place.
The Collector not conforming to the other Collectors’ expectations doesn’t contribute much, since the theme of conformity vs. nonconformity was already there from the start of the show, and other characters fulfill it just fine without them. Belos and Luz alone already embody that theme.
The parallels between the Collector and Luz and King are there, but the character’s existence still feels unnecessary. Belos parallels Luz in some ways as well, and he, again, just has more of an impact as an antagonist and as a character in general, so it would’ve been nice if it was just him that the kids have to deal with.

writing request: camila gets hunter and amity to go shopping together. chaos ensues. (post king's tide!)
“I never said thank you.”
Hunter grabbed a shopping cart, tugging it out of the line and wheeling it towards the door. “For what?”
Amity jogged after him. “For coming to help when my parents locked me up.”
“Oh.”
The door hissed open of its own accord, and Hunter jumped backwards, nearly landing on Amity’s feet. “Magic door!”
Amity snorted, though the door sparked a deep pit of unease in her stomach. “I doubt that very much. Come on.”
She pushed forward into the grocery store, and Hunter came behind. “You didn’t need to thank me,” he said after a moment.
“What?”
“For coming after you. I was… mostly just running away from Belos, and running towards you seemed like the least cowardly way to do it.”
“How chivalrous.”
“Hey, you’ve got Luz to be your knight in shining armor, you don’t need me. What’s first on the list?”
“Uhhh… apple ju—HEY!” Amity glared at the list. “Hunter, has the apple blood in the human realm tasted weird to you?”
“I don’t know, I never HAD apple blood.”
“Wait, really?” Amity shook her head. “Okay, I’ll get you some real apple blood once we get back home.”
“We don’t… what’s wrong with the apple blood here?”
Amity shook the list at him. “It’s apple JUICE here!”
“That’s probably the same thing, right? I mean, juice, blood, what’s the difference?”
“I’m not sure, but I think apples are different creatures in the human realm. Come on, let’s find some.” Amity tugged on the arm of the first store employee she could find. “Excuse me, do you have apples?”
She heard a quiet snort from Hunter. “What, does it LOOK like they sell livestock here?”
“Sure. Produce section, they should be right near the bananas.” The employee pointed. “Big sign. Can’t miss it.”
“Thank you!” Amity grabbed the front of the cart, directing it towards the sign that read produce. “Let’s go see for ourselves.”
“What?! Amity, apples are dangerous, do you even have Ghost with you if—
Amity tugged the cart harder. “If I’m right…” She jabbed a finger at the red spheres gracing the shelves, labeled Red Delicious. “Look!”
Hunter approached them cautiously. “Eugh, are they just selling apple corpses? Without proper refrigeration? Or are they alive? They’re not chained up or anything.” He gingerly poked an apple, then leapt back.
The apple shifted slightly at his touch, but in a normal “object just got poked” way. Hunter reached out and picked it up, turning it over in his hands.
“… Amity, I think it’s a plant. Of the non-carnivorous variety.”
“That’s what I thought. Camila asked us to pick up apple juice and red food dye. She hasn’t had any apple blood at all! I thought she looked confused when we asked her about it, but I hoped she was able to find some.”
“There’s a refrigerated section of the store—maybe they have other apples, or real apple blood there? Maybe the plant is named after its likeness to the animal?”
“Hm.” Amity shook her head. “I’m starting to think maybe apples are just different in the human realm. But we can give it a look.”
She followed Hunter to the refrigerated section of the store, examining the products. “Milk, milk, milk, cheese, eggs—what KIND of eggs?! What laid them?!” She picked up a carton, examining the contents with a snort. “Extra large? These aren’t even CLOSE to the size of the smallest griffin egg!”
“Weird,” Hunter agreed.
Amity pointed at a door. “We haven’t checked there yet?”
“Says employees only.”
“Exactly. If they have a live apple, it’ll be back there.”
Hunter shifted back and forth. “But it’s for employees only, Amity! We don’t work here!”
Amity shuddered, but paced in front of Hunter. “We’ve spent our whole lives doing what someone else told us to do! My parents! Belos!” She stopped to face him, one hand clenched in a fist and raised up at chest level. “We’re finally free! Are we going to let a door tell us what to do?!”
“Yeah,” Hunter said slowly, “Yeah! I mean—yeah, you’re right, we shouldn’t, not yeah we’re letting the door tell us what to do!”
“Alright! Are you ready?”
Hunter squared his shoulders with a gulp. “I’m ready.”
“Don’t you dare bail on me! I’m not going to break the rules alone!”
“Ha! Don’t you bail on me!”
Neither of them pushed through the door.
Hunter glanced at Amity. “Any time you want to go is good.”
“After you.”
“No, it was your idea.”
Amity laughed nervously. “I mean, maybe we shouldn’t. What if the door is trapped?”
“Absolutely,” Hunter agreed, “The employees might have rigged it, in case a non-employee tried to get in. Kikimora set up a BUNCH of traps like that in the keep. She always forgot to send me the memo on where they were, though.”
“Hunter.”
“Yep. Yep, I hear it.” Hunter took a deep breath. “We can do this.”
He pushed open the door, and Amity followed close.
The door clanged behind them, and a wave of panic swept over her.
“Oh, titan, what are we doing?! This isn’t some stupid rule designed to make us miserable, it’s just not a space that customers are supposed to go!”
“Bad idea,” Hunter agreed, “Can’t believe I let you talk me into this!”
“You actually went in the door first!”
Hunter whirled around, pushing on the door. His face paled. “Amity. Amity, I think it’s stuck.”
Amity shoved the door. It didn’t budge. “The employees did trap it! You can warp out of here, right?”
Hunter shook his head. “I left Flapjack outside.”
“What?!”
“It said no animals except for service animals on the sign outside!”
“That is your service animal!”
“In the human realm, not being able to do magic is normal!Besides, the sign also said no weapons!”
Amity summoned an abomination. “I’ve got this!”
The abomination pushed on the door with a groan, then stepped back and charged.
The door shuddered but didn’t open. Amity dismissed it. “Great. We’re stuck!”
“Camila knows where we are. She’ll come for us.” Hunter gulped. “Oh, we are in trouble.”
Amity put her face in her hands. “I can’t make her mad! What if she says I can’t date Luz anymore?!”
“Because telling you not to date Luz worked out very well coming from your mother?”
Amity sank to the ground with a groan. “She trusted us. And we let her down, and now, instead of making LESS work for her, we’ve made MORE!”
Hunter paced back and forth. “She won’t kick us out,” he said softly, “She won’t kick us out, she won’t kick us out, she won’t—”
The door moved, and Amity jumped up. “There’s an employee coming! Do you think they’ll kill us for disturbing their sanctum?!”
“Better than getting killed by Camila!”
The door rattled, and Hunter clung to Amity’s arm. “I’m sorry for attacking you and threatening Luz at Eclipse Lake!” he yelped, “In case we die, I want to say I’m really, really sorry!”
Amity gripped his arm just as tightly. “I’m sorry for cooing at Ghost and calling her a good little hunter baby when she pounced on Flapjack! I should have discouraged her!”
“What?!”
The door swung inwards, and the employee from earlier sighed. “What are you doing in here?”
“It opens in,” Hunter whispered.
“It opens in,” Amity confirmed, face palming, “It’s a pull door from this side.”
“Yeah, I wish it weren’t it makes it hard to get things OUT,” the employee agreed, “What are you two doing in here?”
“We… got lost?” Amity tried.
“Dude. Go make out somewhere else.”
Amity let go of Hunter’s arm. “Oh, ew, no! No offense.”
“She has a girlfriend,” Hunter yelped, “No!!!”
“Alright, alright, I’m sorry. Just…” the worker pinched the bridge of their nose with a sigh. “Get out of here.”
“Okaythanksbye,” Amity yelped, grabbing Hunter’s arm and tugging him out. “It opened the other way,” she said again, shaking her head.
He laughed. “It opened the other way.”
Amity let go of his arm and took the cart. “Well, I think we can safely say that there are no animal apples in this store. Let’s just get the stuff on the list and go.”
“Hey, what did you mean about Ghost pouncing on Flapjack? Because she’s a cat? She’s hunting my bird?!”
“Whaaaaat? No. Come on.” Amity started to walk briskly down the aisles, pushing the cart in front of her.
“Amity!” Hunter jogged after her. “Amity!”

The world’s been at peace for a year. August of 1946 dawns gently.
“Made a call today,” Bill says casually, as the sun dips, blood red, back into the horizon. Joe had watched it rise this morning, and set the night before. He’ll probably watch it rise again tomorrow.
“Okay.” He says, in address to Bill, who hums.
“Yeah. Down to Rhode Island. Rather big Portuguese immigrant population down there, didja know?”
Joe didn’t. “Sure.”
“Well, I only know that because George Luz picked up the receiver and started speaking in rapid fire Spanish — or whatever the hell they speak down in Portugal.” Joe keeps staring out the window. He starts tapping his fingertips against the armchair of the wheelchair, though.
Bill, taking this as his response, continues on. “Anyways, after sorting out whatever tongues shit he was saying, we got down to business. First, he apologised. See, apparently, he’s got this sister — he’s got nine goddamn siblings, can you believe that? — anyways, he’s got this sister, right?”
“Sure.”
“And his sister, according to him — but paraphrased by me — is a little khaki wacky, ya get it?”
“Naturally.”
“So, long story short, she’s stuck in a goddamn Spain army base and they won’t let her leave again because her passport’s all out of whack, so he’s been trying to sort that out. Shit, maybe he was speaking Spanish, then. Or maybe he thought I was his sister at first? Well, first of all, that’s goddamn insulting, don’t you think?”
“Hm.”
“—Second of all, I don’t think he did, because apparently he’s trying to get in contact with the foreign affairs office down there. Anyways—” Bill waves his hand, as if to erase the story from his train of thought. “I bummed his phone number offa Perconte – I have his address, but I’m too impatient to send a letter.”
“Of course.”
“So he picks up, starts speaking in whatever the hell that was, switches to English, says ah, hey, it’s my favourite VD! and we get down to business, right?”
“Right.”
“Right! So we get down to business, and he explains in the most confusing way possible why his sister’s in Spain, and I’m just tryin’ to figure out what the hell’s going on, and then I say, hey, if you need a break from all that, you should come visit!” Bill pauses, here, as if to let his words sink in.
They sink in just fine, but Joe doesn’t turn away from the window. “Seems logical.” He says.

@kulekrizpy gave me the word "bundle" and the ship Lumity, and this is what I came up with! ~
“You, uh, might wanna bundle up.”
Amity glances down at her light jacket and tugs on her purple scarf. “Isn’t this enough? I know it’s cold, but I’ve been to The Knee before and I’ve been fine in this.”
“Amity, this is a Connecticut Winter.  It’s, like, three times as cold as The Knee.”
Amity scoffs.  “The Knee is the coldest part of the Isles.  There’s no way Connecticut is colder.”
~
Connecticut, as it turns out, is colder.
Luz pulls Amity through the portal and into the Human Realm, at which point Amity immediately begins to shiver.
Luz tries to hide her shit eating grin, but apparently fails, because Amity glares at her.
“Cold, Amity?”
“Nope,” Amity says, turning her (very red) nose up in the air, “This is nothing.”
“Mmhm,” Luz replies, but doesn’t say any more.  She keeps her grip tight on Amity’s hand as she leads her through the trees.  When they get to the clearing where Luz’s house is, Amity starts to gravitate that way, but Luz just keeps walking past it.
“Wh-where are we going?” Amity asks, teeth chattering.
Luz glances at Amity and stops walking as soon as she sees her face.  “Oh my god, Amity, I didn’t realize you were that cold!”
“I d-don’t know what you’re talking about,” Amity says, shaking like a cat after a bath.
Luz slaps a hand to her face.  “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to start this competition thing, if I say you win will you stop by my house and put winter clothes on?”
Amity appraises Luz with her eyes narrowed.  “I win?”
“You win.”
“Okay,” Amity finally says, “Then take me to your house, I’m freezing and I can’t feel my feet, what is wrong with Connecticut???”
“You know, you’re not the first person to ask me that,” Luz says, taking Amity’s hand once again.
It’s only a few steps to Luz’s house, and as soon as Luz opens the door, Amity darts inside to defrost.
“Wait here for a sec, okay?”
Amity gives a shaky thumbs up from the corner, where she’s rubbing her hands together to get some feeling back into them.
Luz appears again a minute later, a sweatshirt in her hands.
“Here,” she says, “Put this on.”
“Is this yours?” Amity asks.
“Yeah, is that okay?”
To Luz’s surprise, Amity starts to blush.  It’s been a few months since they started dating, and as they’ve gotten more comfortable with each other, Amity’s blush has become more and more scarce.
This one feels like a gift, and Luz can’t contain her smile.
“Why are you smiling?”
“You’re just really adorable,” Luz says honestly, and Amity’s blush darkens.
“It’s just…this is your sweatshirt, right? I’ve- I’ve always wanted to wear a cute girls sweatshirt.”
“Awwww, you think I’m cute?”
“Maybe.”
“Prove it, then!”
“How do I prove-”
Luz interrupts her with a swift kiss on the lips.  When she pulls away, Amity is rolling her eyes, but she’s smiling, too.
“That made no sense, you know.”
“I know. I just wanted a reason to kiss you.”
“You don’t need a reason to kiss me, you can just kiss me,” Amity says, taking off her jacket.  She pulls the sweatshirt over her head and then fixes her frizzy hair.
“You mean like, if I wanted to kiss you right now, I could?”
Amity smiles, and Luz can’t help but smile back, because she’s just so happy and Amity is her girlfriend, and sometimes it’s nice to have the reminder.
“You could,” Amity agrees, reaching a hand up to cup Luz’s cheek, and suddenly Luz is nervous.  Like, yeah, sure, she literally just kissed Amity, but this time Amity is initiating.  And they haven’t kissed that much, and her bravado from before is completely gone, and her heart is positively quaking.
“Are you okay?” Amity asks, “Do you not want me to-”
“No, I do!!!!!! I really do!!!! I mean- I uh- just- kiss me, please?” she finishes dumbly, sure that now Amity won’t want to.
But Amity gives her a soft smile that melts Luz’s insides.  She leans in, closing her eyes (at which point Luz remembers that, right, she’s supposed to be closing her eyes too), and presses her lips to Luz’s.
It’s soft and gentle, and Amity’s lips are freezing, and Luz feels another pang of guilt for making Amity so cold, but as the kiss continues Luz stops thinking anything entirely.  It’s just the two of them in Luz’s doorway, and Luz loses herself in the feeling of Amity’s lips on hers.
When they pull apart, Luz is quite literally speechless.  Amity, however, tries to speak over her nerves.  “So, did you wanna go somewhere? I know we were on our way to some place, so uh maybe we should go and-”
“Actually,” Luz says, regaining the power of speech, “Can we stay here? I have a fireplace, and hot chocolate.”
“But didn’t you wanna go somewhere else?”
“Yeah, but now I kinda….just wanna be alone with you.”
Amity fiddles with the strings on Luz’s sweatshirt.  “You do?”
“Uh huh.  We can, uh, cuddle maybe?”
Luz curses inwardly.  That was a really really awkward, weird thing to say, wasn’t it?
But apparently Amity doesn’t think so, because she smiles so wide her eyes sparkle.
“I’d love that,” she says.
Luz grins back and takes Amity’s hand, and Amity can’t help but think that she is just so incredibly grateful that she chose not to bundle up.

Since I haven’t done crap for you guys in weeks. Here’s a short huntlow Drabble.
Just fluff tho. No angst this time, promise!
.
.
Hunter stared up at the falling snow. He’d seen it plenty of times when he’s go to the knee and stuff. He knew what it was. It was nothing new to him.
And even on the human realm it seemed to be the same. Hmm. Maybe only the rain and plants and beasts and major population was different.
But apparently someone out of their fateful group of friends hadn’t been there before.
“Oh my titan! It’s so cold!” The plant witch giggled merrily. She was graced with a larger than average white coat that made her look endearingly like a large snowball. She wore a yellow scarf and green earmuffs. Black boots and lights to go with it.
But that wasn’t what had him staring. Aside of the obvious contagious and lovely laughter as well as occasional snorts, her round cheeks and nose turned red. Especially her nose. It was so cute.
Titan he was starting to feel cheesy the more and more he hung out with Luz.
But he couldn’t help himself.
She looked adorable.
*splat* Hunter gasped in shock and discomfort at the sudden smashing snow that was thrown in his face.
“Hey!”
Those melodic giggles. “Sorry! You seemed so lost in thought, had to make sure your reflexes worked. Apparently they don’t.” Willow cooed triumphantly. A challenging glare in her eyes.
Oh it was on.
She laughed and ran as he chase her. A large scoop of that frozen fluffy water melted a little between his warm gloves, causing slight discomfort but that didn’t stop him.
He chased her around the yard relentlessly, gasping when she tripped eighth in front of him.
-his reflexes weren’t fast enough to stop himself from tripping and falling after her.
A soft *oof* was heard and Hunter shook his head. He hadn’t expected the snow to be this warm.
He opened his eyes.
“Oh titan I’m sorry!”
Hunter tried to pull away and get off of the plant witch, but she gripped his shoulders in place, he couldn’t move.
Out of shock and confusion- and well. Her death but gentle grip.
She smiled up at him in the most fond way possible. He could see every individual eyelash, that’s how close he was. Her red nose and pink freckles cheeks. And her eyes. Oh titan, were they always that close in color to peridots?
He felt himself continuing to heat up as she shifted a little under him. One hand leaving his shoulder to he didn’t know where, and the other reaching towards his face.
“Oops.” She replied. Her face seemed to be getting closer to his, or was he moving? Was she? His eyes flashed to her perfectly shaped lips and back to her eyes.
She her lips quirked up in a fond smile, though something mischievous lurked in her eyes.
*plop*
“Oh titan! That’s cold.” Hunter whined as a scoop of snow was smooshed into his air.
Willow threw her head back. Letting his face go and grabbing more snow from around her. So that’s where her other hand went!
“Oh no you don’t!” He laughed in a barked challenge sort of way. He reached behind her head and plucked his hands into the thick snow. Pulling it inwards, causing the plant witch to squirm and laugh and snort and protest. Soon her face was surrounded by snow and she shook her head in laughter, trying to free herself as she pushed Hunters arms away from the snow and off her.
This only encouraged him more. Using his position to his advantage and grabbing more snow from around them.
“Nooooo!” She giggled violently.
Hunter started to laugh some more before he was pulled back down, her hands gripping behind his ears and his lips crashed into hers.
She kissed him sweetly and fervently.
If she had wanted him to stop covering her with snow, and this was her way of doing so? It definitely worked.
Hunter was shocked at first. The foreign feeling that shot electricity through him at even the softest touch. They were kissing! Titan, she kissed him! And boy was he melting.
She then pushed him away from her slightly, her hands gripping his face had let up and her face was now redder than it had ever been.
She quickly used her weight and threw him off her before running towards the house. “Eep! I’m sorry!”
Hunter was left shocked, in shock, laying against the cold ground now. That was. That was amazing. He wanted to do it again.
But wait. Where did she go?

Prediction for Watching and Dreaming
I’m not going to kid myself into thinking I can predict how The Owl House will end, honestly, I have no idea how everything will end up. But I am pretty confident that Luz is going to get impaled some how, probably by Belos.
Tumblr media
I’m not the only person to notice this foreshadowing, not by a long shot, but I am genuinely surprised that more people aren’t talking about it. Considering how much of the shows major events are hinted at in the literal shadows, I can not believe that this silhouette is an accident. And yes, I know this is the shadow of her baseball bat, but there are an infinite amount of ways she could have carried that bat that would have made more sense that wouldn’t have cast this shadow. Remember, in animation every detail that is drawn is drawn for a reason.
Add to that the fact that the shadow of Belos towers over the shadow of Luz in spite of the fact that the height difference between Hunter and Luz is not that dramatic. Of course, Hunter is taller than Luz, and of course shadows are elongated, but the height difference still shouldn’t be this sever. So I think we can pretty safely conclude that while these shadows belong to Luz and the newly possessed Hunter, they are actually depicting a future scene between Luz and Belos.
Now, I don’t think Luz is going to die, but it’s not for the same reason I see a lot of people saying, “Disney wouldn’t kill a kid” Disney has killed kids in the past, Disney has killed a lot of kids in the past, I’m working on a master list of the ones I can remember growing up but a few notable mentions come from Suzy Q, Tarzan, Miracle in Lane 2, Hocus Pocus, So Weird, Boy Meets World, and most notably Bridge to Terabithia (does this list make me seem old as hell, yes, yes it does, but I digress) Disney has killed kids in the past and considering the Owl House has gotten away with showing stuff like flesh rotting off bone, and actually having red blood on the dagger hanging above Caleb’s head (seriously I have never seen red blood in a kid’s cartoon before, for sure not in connection with a fatal injury) I am not banking on “Disney wouldn’t kill a kid”.  Because I do think a kid is going to die, I just don’t think it will be Luz.
Instead I think in the final battle, Belos is going to expose himself and try to attack the Collector, and Luz being the self-sacrificing little martyr-nugget that she is, is going to jump in front of them and take the blow herself. Everyone is going to absolutely lose it and just WRECK BELOS’S SHIT killing him all the way dead. Meanwhile Luz will be left dead or dying, surrounded by her friends and family. The Collector, touched by the fact she saved him, and seeing everyone’s grief will sacrifice himself to bring her back kind of like Flap sacrificed himself to save Hunter. With the Collector gone, the Isles will revert back to normal and all the puppets will become people again.
There have been multiple parallels drawn between Luz and the Collector through out the show from the color scheme, to the story arc, to the fact the Collector is basically Larping Luz’s life in FTF, though in my opinion the least subtle moment of connection is this shot from TtT
Tumblr media
So I think it is inevitable that they are going to become integrally connected by the end of the series. While there are a lot of different ways that could happen, I think the Collector giving Luz his life-force would make the most sense.
But hey, that’s just my theory, what do y’all think?

Eager to Learn - Hunter x Fem! Human! Reader (Part 1)
THANKS TO THEM SPOILERS
Hunter was struggling with too much in the Demon Realm. The image of Belos’ disgusting, deformed mutation, and his pale face standing out; it terrified him.
“Hunter, why are you hurting me? I only wanted to help you!”
He shuddered, remembering how his face immediately turned back into that of a monsters’. And that’s just what he is… a monster…
His mind trailed off again, remembering when he realized he was a Grimalker. His eyes teared slightly, and he looked around at everyone else still trying to gather themselves in Camila’s snug home. He realized Luz had gone off to the bathroom, and so he made his way towards her, the thought of being a Grimwalker still fresh in his mind.
After months, Hunter was thriving in the Human Realm. He had learned and picked up “human hobbies” that fascinated him; he even sewed his very own shirt! Rather than having the sigil of the Golden Guard on it, it had three of the same gorgeous animals he had fallen in love with: wolves. He was excited about his shirt, but it wasn’t done quite yet. And so he put together a very fashionable set of clothes for an outing today. Of course, he needed to hide his ears so he put a beanie over them.
Usually the Hexide Squad would wander around together, Luz leading the way and everyone following, learning the wonders of the enchanting human realm. Today, Hower, Hunter wasn’t in the mood to be around the others. He thought he had seen Belos and it tormented him to think that maybe he still existed. He thought Belos was dead after The Collector flicked him into a wall but, was he?
Hunter shivered slightly at the thought. He looked up from the sidewalk and to the shops to the left of him: A library! He had been doing research on Gravesfield and its history of witch hunting, hoping he could get some answers. Witch Hunter: Is that why Belos named him that? No, no, no. Not now. Don’t think, don’t think, you’ll be fine…
Hunter walked in and was flooded with the smell of paper and books. The library was rather empty. There was a walkway that led to a counter where a young girl stood. To the left of it were some shelves and tables, and to the right there were computers and more shelves.
“Oh hello there!” Hunter flinched back to the sound of the girl welcoming him, “Welcome to the Gravesfield Library!” Hunter made his way towards the counter.
“Uh, hi…” He said shyly, “Uh… nice place you got here.” He said, admiring the shelves full of books. He had always loved studying different things. He was fascinated by books and the immeasurable knowledge they held. But he could never share what he learned; he knew better than to admire wild magic. No, there’s nothing wrong with that. Just… him…
“Oh, thank you!” She chirped, “We try to keep it as comfortable and welcoming as we can. Say, I don’t recognize you, are you new here?” Hunter’s face flushed red: had he just been caught? What would she do? Should he run and hide? “Uhh- I- uh- yes!” He responded quickly, “I’m new and I’m staying with a friend. I just, uh, wanted to learn more about the town since it’s so, uh- full of history! And… intriguing?” She smiled at him.
“Oh sure! We have tons of history about Gravesfield. This old town goes back to the 1600s!” She explained.
“Huh, you don’t say.” He replied, crossing his arms. “It’s incredible the change that can go on in a few hundred years.”
“Sure is!” She replied. “Anyways, if you wanna find out more about Gravesfield, we have some books over there, in the History section” she said, pointing to her right. “Look for the books under ‘Gravesfield,’ they should have a blue tag on them.” Hunter looked to his left and saw what he was looking for.
“Oh, thank you- uhh..”
“(Y/N)! I’m (Y/N).” She said, and Hunter blushed lightly. He had never heard that name before. It sounded lovely.
“Oh, well. Nice to meet you, (Y/N). I’m Hunter.” He smiled softly at her. He could feel the tips of his pointed ears burning.
“Well, Hunter, if you need anything I’ll be right here.” She flashed a smile at him. “Oh, and welcome to Gravesfield by the way! I hope you like it here.” He smiled at her.
“Thank you! And yeah, I do like it here.”
Despite everything, Hunter felt at home in the human realm. How strange was it to feel at home somewhere he’d never been in? Is it a part of me that’s human and feels back at home? He froze. Was he the only Grimwalker to survive long enough to see the human realm? He felt his hands begin to shake and decided to look for his book.
After a while of looking, pulling out different books, and realizing that the dust on them meant nobody cared for these books, he found a few that interested him. They were about the old witch hunters of Gravesfield and the newer books were a revision of Gravesfield. (Y/N) had been right, there was a ton of history to learn.
He made his way back to the checkout counter. Was he excited to see (Y/N) again? He felt slightly nervous about approaching her.
As he went up to her, she looked up from her computer and smiled, “Oh wow! You weren’t joking when you said you wanted to find out more!” He smiled shyly at her. “Heh heh… Yeah. I guess you could say I’m quite the researcher.” She smiled at him.
“All right, well, since you’re new here I’m gonna assume you don’t have a library card. All you need to do is fill out this sheet and I’ll give you your own card in a minute! We have plenty of personalizable designs.” She pulled out a laminated sheet of paper with little examples of different designs. One caught his eyes: one with a wolf on it!
“Oh! Can I have that one?!” He asked excitedly, and (Y/N) giggled seeing his enthusiasm.
“You sure can. Here, I’ll load the card into the machine and you can give me the sheet back when you’re done.” She took the laminated sheet back and pulled out an empty plastic card from a bin on her desk. She walked towards a machine and Hunter got to work filling out his information.
It only asked for basic information like his name, age, contact information and address. He figured he’d put Camila’s information where he could, knowing he didn’t have the rest of the information the Human Realm required for humans.
“(Y/N)! I’m done!” He said happily, looking at his work. He was more excited about the library card then about actually reading the books at this point.
“Awesome!” I’ll be right back with your card!” She took his paper, input the information into the machine, and in a few minutes she had a library card just for him. “OK, this card is free, but a replacement will be five dollars, so be careful! You can check out as many books as you like but we have a limit of two weeks per check out. Just pop on by and renew them, and you’ll be good for another two weeks!” She explained to him. Hunter smiled sheepishly as she handed him his card.
“Thank you!” He was so excited to get his card he almost forgot why he had gone to the library in the first place. “So uh, is this it?” He asked.
“Oh, I need to scan your card and then your books,” she explained. Hunter handed her his card and stack of books, and one by one, she scanned everything.
“All right! You’re good to go!” She said happily, giving him his things, “I hope to see you again soon,” She smiled at him, and he smiled back.
“Yeah, I’d like to see you again.” He blushed lightly. Had he made his first friend in the Human Realm?
“Oh wait!” She exclaimed, pulling out another sheet of paper, “We’re having something here in Gravesfield soon!” She handed him a poster of what looked like a carnival.
“Oh, uh, what is it?” He asked her, taking the poster and examining it.
“We’ll be having a Halloween Festival in a few weeks. There will be all sorts of activities and fun stuff. I’ll be there with a little booth full of more books about Gravesfield. I’d be happy to see you there.” Hunter blushed and almost squeaked, she wanted to see him again!
“Oh, of course! You can count on me!” She flashed a smile at him as a light blush grew across her (s/c) face.
“Awesome! I’ll see you there!” And with that, Hunter was on his way back to Camila’s. He was too excited about seeing (Y/N) at the carnival to even care for all the books he was lugging. It’ll be ok! I can spend some time with her there and then… Then what? Hunter wasn’t sure about what he’d do, but he knew he wanted to see her again.
Weeks had passed and it was the evening of the carnival. Everyone had been surprised to find out Hunter knew about it before they did. The group was excited to tell Luz about the chance that there was Titan Blood, and that they could all go back to the Demon Realm.
Hunter had finished his shirt, and he wore it under his costume. He had taken extra care in his detail, wondering if (Y/N) would like it. Everyone was wearing a sort of costume, and they hoped no one would suspect they weren’t human.
As Hunter walked around, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Belos might be… there. He tried to drown it with the hope of seeing (Y/N) again. He looked around carefully hoping to catch her form, and almost jumped with joy when he finally found her.
He ran up to the booth, his smile ear to ear and his face blushing madly. He felt like he hadn’t seen her in forever when in reality he had visited the library as much as he could.
“(Y/N)!” He called out, and she quickly faced him, a smile on her face just as big as his.
“Hunter! Hi!” She waved as he approached her. “How are you? Are you having fun?” He smiled shyly as he got closer. He wasn’t expecting it but (Y/N) leaned over the booth and gave him a hug. His face turned to a dark red and he froze, not knowing what to do. He couldn’t think of the last time someone hugged him. He finally embraced her too, and a strange feeling of comfort washed over him, with something else. It almost felt like the satisfaction of completing a puzzle of chugging down water after waking up from an unexpectedly long nap. He had no idea what to compare it to, he just felt like… he had been giving something he had been starved from…
She finally pulled away after a good squeeze, “I’m so happy you came! I’ve been looking for you since we set up the booth!” Hunter blushed, she was holding his hands in hers. She was so cheerful and comforting. He wanted to rest in her arms and feel her embrace again.
“Wait- really? You’ve been waiting for me?” He blushed and felt his heart race. No one had made him feel like this. No one had ever made him feel this good.
“Mhm,” she hummed, nodding, “Hey, do you mind if I come with you? I don’t think Ms. Oscar minds if I go.” He smiled and a woman behind (Y/N) smiled and waved dismissively.
“I’d love it if you came with me! You can show me around!” She smiled happily at him. Together, they walked away from the booth and towards the fun.
“I love your costume by the way! Your ears look so real!” He blushed nervously. That’s because they are… Would she still love them if she knew?
They spent a while together looking at different things, playing games at booths and talking together. Hunter didn’t remember the last time he had felt this good. Maybe when Luz had accepted him as family…
Finally, they approached the others by the hayride, and everyone got in. She quickly learned that these were his friends.
On the ride, they learned about the story of the Wittebane Brothers. (Y/N) however, was familiar with these stories. She had studied just about as much as Hunter did.
Hunter and his friends were noticeably uncomfortable. She could tell there was some strange tension between all of them. Maybe they didn’t like the tale of the brothers, or maybe it really had scared them.
As soon as the ride was over, Hunter got off with someone dressed as Azura and the two suddenly disappeared. (Y/N) figured something was wrong and decided it was best to give him space, so she stuck with his friends who happily let her stay by.
After a couple of minutes, everyone began to awkwardly shift around.  It seemed like they all had a feeling something was wrong. Apparently, it wasn’t like Luz and Hunter to just disappear.
The girl with an orange wig spoke first, “Luz? Hunter?”
(Y/N) suddenly realized how long it had been since they disappeared.
Suddenly, a woman and another girl who seemed to be of (Y/N)’s age appeared.
“Kid!” The woman shouted, “Has anyone seen Luz?” she asked worriedly. “And has she um…” She hesitated for a moment, “said anything… weird?”
“Boom!” The girl exclaimed, “Find A Phone!” She pulled out a phone and on the screen appeared what seemed to be Luz’s location, and so the group began to move out.
(Y/N) stuck with them as they made their way into the forest and closer to the Old Graveyard.  She hoped the two were all right, or that they were trying to prank them.
As the group got closer to Luz’s location, they began shouting for them.
“Luz?! I think she’s this way!” Amity exclaimed, and soon everyone else began calling out.
“Mija?!”
“Luz!”
“Hunter!”
“Guys?! Where are you?!”
“Hunter!” (Y/N) shouted out as loudly as she could, wishing she would find him.
She didn’t know what else to do other than hope Hunter was all right. She walked with them until she could make out their shapes, but… something was wrong…
She then realized there were flashes of colors and shapes, and… there was a strange new detail on Hunter. He didn’t have horns on his costume… The group then ran forwards and she could see what was wrong: Luz and Hunter were fighting, and his skin and eyes had changed color. She froze, not knowing what to do, trying to figure out what was wrong.
“Is that- Hunter?” Camila asked. She stared, wide-eyed, trying to figure out what was going on.
“Something’s wrong-” Gus stared intently at the two across the ice bridge.
What’s going on- is this some sort of prank? (Y/N) tried to think, but she didn’t know what to do. She felt panic start to burn in her veins, is Hunter ok??
Hunter looked at the group, and then at Luz, a grim smile on his face, “See, this is why you’re so useful, Luz,” he said, yet it sounded like another voice was echoing his words. “You’re so desperate to help people, you even helped me meet The Collector.”
“What-” Amity froze, and the group shuffled awkwardly again, exchanging frightened looks.
That is NOT Hunter’s voice… (Y/N) began to tremble. She didn’t understand what was happening.
Luz began to panic, “I-I didn’t mean to-” she held her arms out in distress, “I-I thought I was doing something good!” Her voice was breaking and her fear began to leak.
“But… you DID do something good!” (Y/N) didn’t know what to think anymore, it looked like Hunter but it wasn’t his voice, “I thought this one was a lost cause” the voice said, retracting what looked like claws into normal hands, and he stared at them almost admiringly.
“Because of you,” He said arrogantly, “We can finish our work as witch hunters- starting with THEM!”
A claw came hurling towards them, and Amity suddenly pulled out a staff and deflected the hit. Willow and Gus followed, pulling out their own staffs, and suddenly, they flew off and began to circle ‘Hunter’.
(Y/N) was trembling. She didn’t know what was happening, she didn’t understand what was going on. All she could do was stare in absolute horror. H-Hunter??
The fight was a wild frenzy. There were suddenly several of Gus, and ‘Hunter’ extended his arm, and hit one, deflecting a cloud of purple right after.
“Ha!” He exclaimed triumphantly.
Gus then circled ‘Hunter’, “Hey Belos, remember me?” he asked  mockingly. He grimaced and aimed at Gus, but Willow caught his arm and dragged it down.
“Hang tight, Hunter!” Vee called out. She inhaled and, suddenly, wisps of blue were coming to her.
‘Hunter’ cried and pulled back ferociously, and then aimed at Vee with his other arm.
“Vee! Watch out!” Amity shouted, swiftly grabbing her and pulling her away in time just as the claw crushed the bridge.
(Y/N) watched in horror as everything unfolded. She didn’t understand or have the slightest clue on why or how any of this was happening.
‘Hunter’ hit Gus, Willow and Amity, sending them crashing into the ground. (Y/N) jumped back and yelped. She looked up to see that Luz had a staff too now, and she was holding it around ‘Hunter’.
“I know you can hear me, Hunter!” She cried out, “Fight! Him! Off!” He threw her over his shoulder and she screamed, flying in the air. Amity then swiftly twisted her staff around, and a circle of purple light appeared: she was summoning plants. They grew towards Luz and brought the broken bridge back together, catching her safely as she fell.
The staff Luz had been using shrunk, and turned into a cardinal. It flew up the ‘Hunter’s head and began desperately chirping and flapping.
“That’s right,” He muttered, catching the little bird, “you wouldn’t  want me hurting your precious palisman- would you?” The bird chirped and cried in fear, “Oh, but again- I don’t care what you want” he said, a grim smile creeping onto his face.
“Goodbye, Evelyn,” he crushed the bird in his claws, the ends of them going completely through the red cardinal. Everyone gasped in horror, watching as green wisps bled out of him.
“NO!” (Y/N) screamed.
One of ‘Hunter’s’ hand reached out towards the bird, when suddenly it grabbed the wrist instead, and released the bird. He began shaking violently, as if trying to control himself.
“Flapjack!” Luz cried out in agony, tears in her eyes, “Flapjack… you’ll be ok…” She tried to reassure the little bird fighting for its life.
Hunter grunted, his arms moving hastily, and he stumbled closer and closer to the water. He punched himself and fell, panting madly.
“You know what I’d like, Belos?” He stood back up, grabbing his arm, walking closer to the water, “I’d like to leave the Emperor’s Coven, and never step foot in that throne room again! I’d like to study wild magic, and learn to carve palismen!” He stepped closer and closer to the edge, “I’d like to attend Hexside as a regular student, and play Flyer Derby with my friends!” He grabbed a small vial with a thick, blue liquid in it, “But most of all, I’d like to make sure, you never hurt anyone AGAIN!" He threw the vile into the water, and suddenly the same echo-like voice returned.
“NO!” It screamed, throwing itself into the water.
“HUNTER!” (Y/N) cried out desperately. Tears were in her eyes, she didn’t know what to do, she was frozen in fear and confusion.
“Oh no, no!” Luz cried out in panic.
Suddenly Camila rushed forwards, “MOVE!” She hurled herself into the water, and quickly came back up with Hunter. He had passed out and laid limp in her arms. She swam towards the bridge and laid him on it.
“Be careful with him!” Willow pleaded as they all surrounded him.
Hunter shook and finally screamed, a green slime flying out of his body, landing several feet away from them. It all came together to form a monster, several feet tall with horns, and a thin, disgusting frame.
(Y/N) was too scared to process it all, she blanked out on what was going on, losing herself in thought trying to find an explanation for all of it. The next thing she knew, the monster was walking through some type of portal, and it disappeared through it.
A moment of silence filled the air, “THAT’S THE BELOS YOU’VE BEEN FIGHTING THE WHOLE TIME?!” Camila exclaimed, horrified.
“Guys! Hunter isn’t moving!” Willow’s voice broke slightly as she spoke, and everyone gathered around him.
(Y/N) held his hand; she didn’t know what else to do. Tears pricked her eyes and shook violently.
“Vee! Call an ambulance!”
“Do human doctors know about possession?”
“Or grimwalkers?!”
(Y/N) looked around frantically, “Wait, what?! Possession? GRIMWALKERS?!”
The group ignored her, all of them desperately throwing out possible solutions and frantic cries.
The little cardinal crept forward, nuzzling Hunter’s lifeless form. It rested on his chest, closing his eyes as a bright light grew from under him. Everyone hushed as a slight glistening sound rang the air, little orbs of light floating up as the bird disappeared.
When he had evaporated into nothing but little specks of light, Hunter groaned and finally moved again. “H-hey guys. Is everyone else ok?” Hunter croaked softly, “Is (Y/N) ok?”
Gus was the first to speak, “Actually, Flapjack-”
“Don’t-” Hunter cut him off, tears streaming down his face “I-I already know” He trembled, gripping his shirt where Flapjack had laid.
“Sit up slowly, baby,” Camila soothed, “are you in pain anywhere?”
(Y/N) gently held his hand and helped him sit up, “I’m ok,” he said in almost a whisper.
(Y/N) ignored everything else for a moment, “Hunter, what just happened? HOW did any of this happen? Are you sure you’re alright? WHO WAS THAT?!”
He just smiled softly at her, “I’ll explain, but, yeah, I’m fine.” Suddenly, she turned around, realizing Camila was saying something about going to the Demon Realm. Hunter and the others made their way towards her. (Y/N) froze, were the stories she had read true? Was there really another world full of magic out there? Suddenly, the portal began to flicker out, “The portal’s closing,” Vee said worriedly.
Luz looked forward, “Then we better head in.”
Hunter began to make his way towards the portal, and (Y/N) felt her heart sink. Hunter stifled a cry and trembled, putting his hand over his chest, “Time to go home, Flap”.
Just as he began to step through, (Y/N) shouted, “HUNTER! WAIT!” She ran to him, grabbing his hand and pulling him away from the portal.
“Wha- (Y/N)?” He stared at her, wide eyed, “(Y/N), I-” before he could continue, she burst out.
“Hunter, wait-” she looked from him, to the portal, and back to him, “Look I don’t know what’s happening or what you’re getting yourself into. There’s no way I’m just gonna let you wander through this by yourself when that… thing just went through.”
Hunter blushed lightly and his gaze softened, “(Y/N), that’s really sweet of you but, you belong here. I’m… I’m not a human,” He said, turning away.
As the two kept talking, Willow, Gus, and Amity all made their way through the portal.
“Hunter, that doesn’t change anything!” She said, smiling at him. His ears perked up. They are real!!
He turned to her again, “What? Really?” He asked, a deep blush coming across his face. Tears almost formed in his eyes.
“Of course this doesn’t change anything!” She said smiling as she took his other hand into her’s. “Look, no matter what this is, what challenge you’re facing or what danger you’re going up against, I want to be here with you the whole way through it!”
Hunter laughed lightly, “(Y/N)! That’s so sweet of you.” He smiled, tears streaming down his face.
“C’mere you!” She exclaimed, pulling him into a tight hug. Hunter hugged her back, almost sobbing into her shoulder. No one had ever made him feel like this. He wanted to feel like this forever.
As (Y/N) pulled away, she suddenly saw Vee shape-shift into Camila. Camila said something to her, and she shifted back as she was pulled into a hug. When Camila let go, (Y/N) jumped towards Vee.
“Hey, Vee!” She looked towards (Y/N) and blushed in fear.
“Oh! (Y/N), I- uh…”
“Can you do that for me too, please? Tell Ms. Oscar I had a family emergency but will try to be back soon!” Vee smiled at her.
“Sure thing, (Y/N)!”
(Y/N) turned towards Hunter and held out her hand. “Let’s go through, together.” He smiled, blushing again as he took her hand. Together, they walked through the portal and into the Demon Realm.

I have both ‘significant time skip’ and ‘character redesigns’ on my bingo sheet, and realized that with the new ep coming out on Saturday it’s my last chance to take my own swing at what those designs could be! So here’s a shot at the gang, six months later, and some headcanons.
(Yes, I know there’s a trailer and promo images out, and this might all already have been jossed, but don’t tell me so. I’m a liveblogger so I’ve been avoiding spoilers like the plague; I did briefly see the poster but all I saw was “spooky graveyard vibes and Luz is wearing a beanie”.)
Gus is not coping well and is trying to hide it. He knows about Grimwalkers and hasn’t told Hunter he knows— he’s not even sure Hunter knows— so he’s been holding that in, he’s the youngest, and he misses his dad, plus he feels guilty about everything from ‘I always wanted to go to the human realm so it’s somehow my fault we’re stuck here’ to ‘I cast the illusion that let Luz sneak out to the Head’. He’s had another growth spurt and become an absolute beanpole, and he also has a bunch of patchy facial hair starting to come in but he hides it with an illusion because he does not want to learn to shave from anyone but his dad.
Hunter also had a massive growth spurt, but instead of regular Witch Puberty it’s just because he can actually digest the food here. He shot up and filled out and dyed a red streak into his hair with Amity’s semi-grudging help. He still cuts the underside short but has let the top grow out a bit, and wears it in a little topknot; he won’t admit why but everybody knows. He insisted on getting a part-time job, but he can’t have Flapjack with him on the clock so he wears one of their shed feathers. He likes wearing tight clothes, which is mostly genuine and because the pressure helps keep his scars from aching, but there’s also a little bit of the fact that he and Gus both had growth spurts and Camila doesn’t have a ton of money for new clothes. On the outside, it seems like he’s coping the best out of the group, but it’s pretty much just because his big brother instinct and guard training kicked in at the same time and he’s suppressing his own emotions for the sake of looking after everybody else. Eventually he’s going to crash.
Luz is… a disaster. Girl already blames herself for everything, and at this point? Hell. She feels like she’s failing the only friends she has because they’re having trouble acclimating to the human realm, she’s terrified that Eda and King might be dead, that the whole isles might be destroyed, and because she’s her she’s pretty sure it’s all her fault. Her glyphs don’t work here, she’s remembering just how out of place she was at home, she’s watching her basilisk baby sister get along with humans better than she ever did, and it’s… rough. She’s putting all her energy into trying to find a way home. Well, the one other constructive thing she’s doing is that she’s picked up the clarinet again, which she used to play in sixth grade— she’s determined to be able to play something for Raine when they meet again. Which they definitely will. Eventually.  She’s the only one of the group who hasn’t let her hair grow out longer, which wasn’t planned, I just gave everyone else longer hair bc I’m salty about the omnipresence of ‘cut off a characters hair to show she’s Matured’
Amity is handling it. She’s okay. Well, she’s okay as could be expected, which isn’t really okay. She’s worried about Luz, she’s trying to make a good impression on Camila (she’s not really aware that she made a fantastic impression on the first day— not with her careful, heels-together, carefully rehearsed introduction in Spanish, though that was adorable, but with the moment she doesn’t know Camila saw when she was sitting with Luz, holding her hands in hers, whispering to her that she did everything right and they’d make it in the end). She’s studying up on all the human realm trivia she can find— they recognize her at the library— helping Camila with the house, being there for Luz, trying to be helpful in every way she possibly can. She’s been carefully maintaining her lilac hair with her natural brown underlayer, and she’s been helping Hunter and Willow with their streaks too. It makes her feel like she’s succeeding at something.
Willow is being crushed on by every wlw in the greater Gravesfield area who doesn’t already have a partner, and she has no idea. That’s not relevant, though. She’s trying to be the strategizer and team leader, she’s trying to be mom friend, she’s trying to grow enough produce out behind the house to relieve Camila’s grocery bill, she’s trying to let Gus stop pretending he’s fine, she’s trying to keep it together. Hunter still calls her Captain, and it’s wonderful because it’s a sign of how much faith he has in her but it’s also a lot of pressure. She quickly learnt how to play human soccer and drags the others out for a kickabout every weekend in order to keep them all active, and because she remembers something Viney said once about endorphins. She’s been keeping a meticulous journal for the sake of telling her dads everything that’s happened, when she eventually sees them again.
Vee is conflicted and feels bad about being conflicted. She genuinely adores Luz, she knows she’s such a good person, she’s so grateful for all her help, but she also fears that her return means that her space in the world is disappearing again. She’s changed her human appearance up a little— made her skin a touch darker, closer to Camila’s, given herself her spots back, made her hair the same blue as her ear frills in her true form. She’s also getting steadily femme-r as she differentiates herself from Luz, and has been watching a lot of 90s horror and getting style cues from the final girls. She spun a convoluted yarn to her friends about having been Parent Trapped as a wee child, raised by her and Luz’s crazy great-uncle, and taking her place at camp when she ran away to hang out with a friend out of state; they don’t believe a word of it but they don’t suspect the truth either, and if it turns out their friend is actually named Valentina, not Luz? They’re cool with that. Her sister’s fun too, but Vee is cooler.

So this is another scene I like that I don’t have a place or exposition for so like imagine Hunter and Luz were messing with time pools or something lol. Time travel Huntlow 💛⏳💚
———
“Are you okay?” a familiar voice asked. Hunter shook off the impending headache from whatever had just happened and looked up to see Willow standing over him, the sunlight framing her like a halo as Hunter felt it always did and yet-
She looked... different.
“Un, I’m okay... I think?” He said, turning his head to see if maybe it was just because she was upside down but no. It was clear that while the girl above him was Willow, she wasn’t his Willow. Er, rather, the Willow that he knew. Of course she wasn’t his Willow, what did that even mean? Of course if she wanted to be she could-.”
“Are you sure?” She teased endearingly, sensing his uncertainty as she extended her hand to help him off the ground. “It seemed like you hit your head pretty hard.”
“Yeah I should be-,” she brought him quickly to his feet, even without trying she was strong. Or maybe he was scrawnier that he thought. Maybe both. Either way it left him breathless and he fought the against the telling look he knew wanted to take over his face. “-fine.”
“Are you a new student?” She asked, titling her head to the side. She asked him the same way she had when they first met. But her sleeves had been green that day and now they were purple.
Her hair was also shorter, her glasses were a different color, and there was something else hovering in her voice. He was certain this was no illusion by the kindness that shone in her eyes. He definitely knew this was Willow, but she definitely didn’t know him.
“Uh, yes I just transferred ?” he said, feeling an overwhelming sense of Deja vu. “Do you... really not recognize me?”
Had she maybe forgotten him? Or had he-
“Um no, I don’t think so sorry,” this Willow replied gently. She looked so genuinely disappointed to give him that answer. Was it because she wished she knew him or because she could tell he wanted to be someone she knew? Her eyes glanced down and saw she was still holding his hand and she dropped it shyly. “Do we have a class together? I’m pretty would remember meeting you.”
Titan, what did that mean???
“Are you lost?” She continued, her voice calm and quiet as though she was talking to a lost puppy. Hunter couldn’t breathe. The stunned look on his face drew confusion on hers and the way he looked at her with wide, dizzy eyes made her worried he had a concussion. She placed the back of her hand on his forehead and her face grew more concerned. “Your face looks pretty red, do you want me to walk you to the infirmary?”
As tempting as a walk with Willow sounded and as much as he wanted to stay here and let her dote on him, he needed to stay focused. He needed answers. “Um, actually I’m looking for my.... sister. Maybe you know her? Her name is Luz?”
“Hmm, I don’t think I know anyone by that name either,” said Willow sweetly. “Sorry I’m not more helpful. What track is she on? I bet I can help you find her.”
That confirmed it: somehow Hunter had ended up in the past. He couldn’t have gone too far, judging by the weather and Willow’s appearance it couldn’t be more than a few months. This must be right before she and Luz met, maybe right before Luz got to the demon realm. Did that mean she wouldn’t recognize him either? Had she been sent back with him? A trip to the Owl House would answer that, if she was sent back with him that’s where she would go first and if she wasn’t the Owl Lady was bound to have some cockamamie solution.
Then it suddenly dawned on him: he had a second chance at a first impression. Maybe that’s why whatever portal had thrown him out of the sky had placed him in front of this girl with abomination goo on her face and frazzled hair who, because had they met sooner as he often wished, his former self would’ve walked right passed her. What a fool! But now he knew better. Now, he had a chance to lay on all the charm of the Golden Guard without his arrogance standing in his way.
He took a deep breath and tried to seem smooth. “Maybe... you could show me around?” He said in a low voice, extending his arm to lean against the tree and somehow missing entirely. Willow giggled as he stumbled and rose back to his feet, she was fairly certain he was concussed.
“I’d love to!” she said with a bright smile that faded as quickly as it appeared. “But, actually I should probably tell you... since you’re new-.”
“What?”
“I’m not exactly... popular,’ she admitted, her eyes darting to the dirt as she made air quotes with her fingers. “And if people see you with me... well, your reputation at Hexside will be ruined before it even starts.”
He hated to see her doubt herself. He knew that in a few short months this mindset would weaken and she’d be able to see herself for how wonderful she was. He knew in most cases, time travelers weren’t supposed to alter the past, but that seemed impossible now.
Hunter also hated the phrase ‘kill two birds with one stone,’ but the response that popped into his mind did just that. Only now, in this lost day or dream or whatever this moment was, did he have the rare nerve and opportunity to voice it.
“I guess being seen with you would ruin my reputation,” he said in his best O’Bailey impression, putting his hands in his pockets to appear causal. “If I had a reputation for not knowing any pretty girls.”
Then he winked at her. He ripped a page right out of her own unpublished book and winked at her. Dear Titan who was he???
“Oh.” She gasped quietly and a small blush crept onto her face. Hunter was relieved she understood his clumsy compliment. He had never seen her blush before. He liked it. He really liked it. “Well, I mean I ... if you’re sure.”
“Uh, yeah I’m sure,” he said, his confidence fading as hers seemed to grow and for a moment they met in the middle. “Very sure.”
“Well okay then, Mr. Very Sure,” she said brightly, a familiar spring in her step returned as she extended her hand to him once more. “I’m Willow, Willow Park.”
Future Captain of Hexside’s first flyer derby team, his mind filled in for him.
“Nice to meet you,” he said, reaching to take it. “I’m-.”
“Hunter!”
Hunter turned around and saw Luz, definitely the Luz he knew, standing in the middle of a floating portal of swirling pinks and green frantically waving him over.
“Luz! What’s going on?”
“Time travel. Duh.”
“Well, I know that!” He groaned. “I mean how-?”
“It’s like a blip or a loop or something, Eda says don’t worry about it,” said Luz casually, though Hunter was not one for not worrying about things. “As long as we don’t talk to ourselves in the past this should all just like cancel out or something. Oh, hi Willow!”
“‘Cancel out?’” He repeated his eyes darting back to a very confused Willow who gently waved out of politeness at her future best friend. “So... like none of this counts? She won’t remember this?”
“Probably not, but we don’t have time to stick around and find out; we gotta go! C’mon! Bye past Willow!” Luz said as she ducked back into the portal.
He went to follow her, knowing it was important, but something about leaving Willow didn’t feel right. It felt rude. He knew she would forget this and they would eventually meet as they were meant to. He also knew he may never get the opportunity to speak with no consequences, he couldn’t let that go. He turned back to Willow who seemed to have gathered that there was something more going on that she probably wasn’t meant to ever know the answer to.
“Guess I’ll have to show you around another time,” said Willow, sensing his hesitation to leave.
“I’d like that,” he said, looking back for a second to ensure the portal was still open before turning back to her with determined eyes. “I really, really would. But, uh, real quick before I go... I just need to tell you that I think you’re so cool and amazing and anyone who tells you anything else or anything less is crazy and stupid and a liar. You’re strong and brave and strong and smart-.”
“You said ‘strong’ twice,” she pointed out with a modest smile, raising her eyebrow.
“Yeah, well that’s how strong you are,” he said maybe a little too loudly, cursing himself for losing his cool.
“And how would you know?” She said, her heart floating between being flattered and skeptical. “You just met me. How could you-?”
“Alsoyourecute.” he added quickly, covering his mouth with his hands as soon as the words escaped. But he did not regret it.
“Oh,” Willow blinked, brushing her hair behind her ear, wondering if she heard him correctly. “Thank you? I-I’m sorry, who are you again?”
“He’s gonna be in trouble if he doesn’t get moving!” Luz called, reappearing and looking even more urgent and then adding in a bubbly tone. “Also, hi again Willow!”
“I’m Hunter,” he said as stoic and noble as he could, attempting to save any part of this interaction, even if it would only live in his memory. “We haven’t met yet. But we will. Soon. In the future. We’re... friends.”
Friends, she thought fondly, we’re friends. She couldn’t help but feel like he said the word as though it held more meaning, or that he wished it did.
“Oh, well then I look forward to meeting you, Hunter.” She said, extending her hand to him again.
“Likewise,” he said, taking her hand one last time and bring it to his lips, keeping his eyes on her and feeling his heart flip as her blush made a return as he pressed a kiss on her knuckle. He wondered if this would have the same affect on a Willow who knew him. She wondered exactly what kind of friends they turned out to be.
Oh Titan, the voice in Willow’s head breathed, how am I supposed to forget this???
“Okay... byeeee!” He attempted to take his leave and run towards Luz but once again turned around to ask one more important question.
“Also, sorry, one more thing real quick since I’m here, for research purposes: uh do you think I’m cute?” He said, folding his hands in front of his face before a powerful force suddenly removed him from Willow’s presence before she could respond.
“Let’s go Hunter!” Groaned an aggravated Luz, having emerged from the portal to hurry him up, extra grumpy that she had to be the strict one between the two of them. She processed to grab him by his collar and drag him away herself very unceremoniously. “We’re on a tight schedule!”
“Ow! I know! I made the schedule!” He protested, trying to wiggle free from Luz’s hold and digging his heels in the dirt to slow the process. “Hold on can you just let her answer first?”
“She just met you!”
“I know we just met but Iike based on first impressions just like objectively would you say I was cute?” He called back to Willow as she watched the siblings struggle from a safe distance. “Like in your personal opinion. Don’t think about it too much, maybe like a word association thing like if you had to pick a word and that was a choice would it be-.”
“Hunter, you’re embarrassing yourself!” Luz exclaimed as she hauled him into the portal like he was a sack of potatoes.
“She’s not gonna remember this so why does it matter?!” He shouted from the other side and the pair continued to argue until Willow could no longer hear them and the portal or blip or illusion or whatever it was safely closed behind them and vanished entirely from sight.
Willow’s scroll buzz and broke her from her daze.
“Willow! Where are you? You’re gonna be late for first period? Are you okay? Where are you?”
“I’m fine just running a little late is all,” Willow assured him. “Hey, do you happen to know anyone on the Oracle track? I was thinking about getting a reading done after school.”
“Yeah, why? What do you wanna know?” He asked mischievously.
“I think... there’s someone special in my future,” she said as she started to walk to school, trying to hide her smile for Gus’ knowing eyes. “And I wanna find out when I get to answer his question.”
