Sweet Child o Mine: And if I stare too long, I’d probably break down and cry…
Tumblr media
For those who have been sticking with Sweet Child, here's a bit of thanks and a reminder that the first chapter takes place in the future! There's going to be a payoff ... and I commissioned @smallpapers to illustrate the first chapter to give you all some feels! They knocked it out of the park. <3
Thank you again for reading and commenting and all that junk! Longer writing notes to come later and then, tomorrow, a nice Steve and Hunter bonding chapter (with some more intrigue peppered throughout) to drop tomorrow!
I'm not going to say for sure how close to the end I am, but I am thinking 65 % at this point.
THANKS FOR READING!

Mistletoe
I'm tagging @avatarmerida because I know she'll love this one!
Happy holidays to all who celebrate! (All who don't, happy December!)
________________________________________________________________
"Amity! Amity! Amity!" Luz called out, excitedly and a little too loudly. She was eagerly pointing at the ceiling, where she'd just got done hanging up a tiny piece of mistletoe.
Gus, Vee and Willow were sitting at the kitchen table, trying to make gingerbread cookies. Vee was making sure they had actual supervision this time, that way they might actually cook up something good that wouldn't make Luz and Camila sick. However, once they heard their human friend yelling, all 3 of them stopped to look at what she was up to.
Amity walked towards her girlfriend, annoyed but happy.
"Again? You know, if you want to kiss me, you can just say it," she shook her head with a laugh.
"Aww, but that takes the fun out of it!" her human girlfriend pouted.
"What? Kissing me is only fun when it's under a plant? Is that what you're telling me?" Amity smirked.
"What?! No! I didn't say that! I just meant-"
"Come here," the witch roller her eyes before grabbing the human's face and pulling her into a loving kiss. Luz's hands went to Amity's waist, Amity's hands stayed on Luz's cheeks. Amity's leg went up like it always did.
As they kissed, the other 3 each had different reactions. Gus laughed, made a fake gagging noise and pretended to throw up on the cookies. Vee cooed and then grabbed the cookies before Gus could throw up on them. Willow pulled out her camera and took a picture of the lovebirds, deciding to include it on her holiday scrapbook.
When Amity and Luz finally stopped kissing, both of their faces were red.
"You guys just love PDA, don't you?" asked Gus.
"Is it really PDA when there's only 5 people here?" replied Luz, letting go off her girlfriend.
"Whatever, pass me the oven mits, I'm putting these in the oven before something else goes wrong," ordered Vee.
Gus passed her the oven mits and watched as she put the cookies in the oven.
Willow, on the other hand, went to the 2 girlfriends. Her curiosity was peaked.
"Hey, Luz, I need to ask; what's with the mistletoe?"
"Oh yeah! I didn't tell you guys about this, didn't I?"
Willow shook her head.
Camila had been kind enough to welcome Gus, Willow and Amity to stay at the Noceda house for this Human holiday called 'Christmas'. It looked really similar to the Demon holiday 'Krampus Night', but it also had some differences. Luz had been teaching them all about the stories and traditions over the past few days, but it looked like she never ran out of things to show them.
"When it's Christmas time, we sometimes hang mistletoe up on doorways or from the ceiling or we just hold it over our heads or wear it on our hair," Luz explained "the tradition dictates that if you and another person end up under the mistletoe, you have to kiss them. Primarily on the lips, but not necessarily."
"It's like a fun, little game that makes Christmas more romantic," added Amity. Luz had obviously explained this to her already.
"Interesting," commented Willow, scratching her chin as she came up with an idea.
Hunter and Willow had been dating for almost a month now, their relationship was still fresh. They had been getting more affectionate than before, with hugs that lasted longer and kisses on the cheek or forehead and holding hands. But they hadn't kissed on the lips yet. Willow understood that Hunter was waiting for the right moment and she knew better than to rush him.
But she could maybe nudge him in the right direction by creating the right moment... right?
She went down to the basement, where her boyfriend was working on something on the sewing machine. He was wearing his glasses and he had his tongue out in concentration.
"Hi, Hunter."
"Oh, hey, Captain," he greeted without looking up.
"Whatcha working on?" she sat down in front of him, crossing her legs and tapping her knees like she did sometimes.
"Luz said a crucial part of Christmas is silly, matching outfits," he explained "primarily personalized sweaters, so I'm making a sweater for each one of us so we can take a picture on Christmas day. Look, I'm already done with Camila's!"
He proudly held up a large, red sweater with a million different patches and embroidery on it. Amongst them, there was a Dominican Republic flag, a yellow planet with many rings and a patch that read 'BEST MOM'.
Hunter was smiling so bright, it was contagious. He was so cute.
“Oh, Hunter, that’s so sweet! I’m sure she’s gonna love it!”
The Grimwalker blushed happily as he went back to his work. Willow always made sure to compliment him at every chance she got because his reaction was always worth it.
“Caaaaan I see mine?” she asked playfully.
“Ah, ah, ah!” he wagged his finger, as if he was reprimanding her  “you know how I feel about spoilers! you have to wait until Christmas like everyone else.”
She laughed. “Fine.”
She watched him work a little more before deciding to act on her plan. The plant witch drew a circle in the air with her finger, making a long chain of mistletoe appear in front of them, hanging from the ceiling. Hunter noticed it and looked up. He saw his girlfriend smiling at him, expectantly, sitting under the mistletoe with a blush on her cheeks. He raised an eyebrow at her, confused. But, then, his knowledgeable brain provided him with a possible answer and he frowned.
“Um, Captain, are you okay? is something wrong?”
“I’m fine, everything’s great, actually,” she smiled, still hopeful.
“Are you sure? you know you can tell me anything, right?”
“Yeah, I know. I promise, everything is awesome.”
“Are you mad about the sweater? you just have to wait a few days, it won’t be long,” he tried to reassure her.
“It’s fine, Hunter, really,” she laughed “I can be patient.”
“Then why-?” he was about to ask but then he got interrupted.
“Hey, guys! the cookies are finished! come upstairs!” Gus called out from the kitchen.
The couple looked at each other for a second before they both got up from their seats to go.
“We can talk later,” she said, simply. As if that explained everything.
Then, she kissed him on the cheek. If she wasn’t gonna get a mistletoe kiss on the lips, she was at least getting a tiny peck. Hunter was now completely bewildered, and his face was red again. But yeah, they could talk about whatever was bothering her later, there didn’t seem to be an urgency. He took off his glasses and they both went upstairs with everyone else.
This kept going for a few more days. Everytime Hunter and Willow were alone in a room together, Willow would magically create a mistletoe on the ceiling over their heads and stare at him. It was weird, to say the least. Hunter knew that Willow always made plants appear when she was having really strong emotions, like how her hair had filled with flowers when he first asked her out. He also knew that mistletoe was a poisonous plant, its consumption fatal for both witches and humans. So, he thought, the logical conclusion was that Willow was upset about something but, whenever he asked, she always said she was fine. He was simply at a loss for what to do.
Finally, he decided to go to Luz for advice. Luz was in her bedroom with Amity, sitting on the lower bunk bed, watching something she’d referred to as a ‘Christmas Rom-Com’ while her witch girlfriend braided her hair.
“Hi, guys, I need help with something.”
“Yeah, okay. What’s up, bro?” Luz paused the movie to let him talk.
“I think Willow is angry with me,” he confessed, obviously upset.
“What did you do?” Amity asked, more focused on her love’s hair than on her friend’s problem.
“Amity! don’t be rude!” Luz went back to her honorary brother  “what makes you think she’s angry with you? I thought you guys were fine.”
“I thought so, too, but now, everytime we’re alone together, she makes mistletoe appear,” he said this like it was an obvious tragedy.
“So?” Luz shrugged.
“So? SO?! Luz, mistletoe is a poisonous plant! it’s toxic! Willow makes plants appear when she’s having really strong emotions and the plants always relate to her feelings,” he started walking in circles  “soooo... if she’s making mistletoe appear when she’s with me and mistletoe is a toxic plant, she must be mad about something. Oh Titan, what if she breaks up with me? what am I supposed to do with her Christmas gift if she breaks up with me before Christmas?”
“Hunter, even if she was mad, she’s not gonna dump you during the holidays,” Amity tried to be logical  “that’s like the worst possible time to break up with someone.”
Luz laughed and started singing. “Last Christmas I gave you my heart but, the very next day, you gave it away.”
Amity stopped braiding her hair and Hunter stopped pacing, they both looked at her confused.
“It’s a human song,” she said, easily, before going back to the matter at hand  “Hunter, I don’t think Willow is mad at you. But, if you don’t believe me, ask her!”
“I already asked her, she keeps saying everything is fine but I can tell she’s not being completely honest.”
“Did you actually ask her about the mistletoe?” Amity said, hands on her Batata’s hair once more.
“I... no.”
“Then ask her about the stupid plant. Don’t make a big deal out of it, just talk to your girlfriend, be direct with her,” the purple witch said  “if I learned anything with Luz, is that communication and honesty is important in relationships.”
“Awww,” Luz swooned. Her awesome girlfriend was so mature.
“Okay, I’ll talk to her,” Hunter resigned  “thanks for the advice, girls.”
“Good luck!” Luz told Hunter as he left. Then, she said to Amity:  “10 Snails says they end up making out.”
“I think I know better than to bet against you now,” Amity said, remembering all the money she’d lost when Willow said yes to going out with Hunter.
“Yeah, okay.”
The Grimwalker found his partner in the living room, working on her holiday scrapbook. She was trying to make the perfect paper snowflake to stick between a picture of Gus catching snow with his tongue and another picture of Vee making a snow Basilisk. When Willow saw him, she left her project to go hug him. He hugged her back, always happy to do so.
“Hunter! hi!”
“Hey, Willow? can we talk?”
“Yeah, okay,” she sat back down on the couch and patted the space next to her. He sat.
“Every time we’re alone, I’ve noticed you keep making mistletoe appear,” he started.
“You noticed?”
“Yeah, and I don’t really understand what it means... I know mistletoe is a poisonous plant, so I thought that maybe you were angry with me about something? but every time I asked, you always said you were fine, so I just got more confused...”
“Oh, Hunter,” Willow laughed.
“I know I’m not very good at this relationship thing but I don’t like that you’re giving me mixed signals and I understand if you want to break up with me but-”
“Hunter, that’s not what the mistletoe means.”
“Then, what does it mean?”
“I mean, you’re right, mistletoe is poisonous. You definitely should not eat it,” she clarified  “but Luz told me that humans like to use it as Christmas decoration. They hang it up on doorways and stuff and it’s supposed to be like a game. The rules are, if you and another person are under the mistletoe together, you have to kiss... like, on the lips.”
“Oh,” Hunter said, then he took a moment to think about what that meant and finally understood  “ooooooooh, you were... ooooooooh...”
His face was now bright red at the thought. He was somehow relieved and embarrassed at the same time. What a strange combination of emotions.
“Yeah, oh.”
“Why didn’t you just ask me?”
“I didn’t want to pressure you if you weren’t ready. I didn’t want to rush you. But I thought... if I dropped some hints that I wanted you to kiss me, you would feel more comfortable doing it when you were ready.”
“Aww, that’s sweet, Willow,” Hunter smiled  “but I think you need to stop dropping hints, I’m never good at picking them up.”
They both laughed, it was true. Then, he realized.... if she wanted him to kiss her... then...
He slowly moved both hands to her face and held her softly. Willow looked at him, blushing and hopeful. They both looked at each other for a second, quietly asking for permission before Hunter finally went and did it.
It wasn’t a very long kiss but it felt right. His hands remained on her face while hers went to his hair. They could feel each other smiling. Willow felt him sigh in content as he relaxed and that sigh made her shiver a little. They pulled each other closer. The kiss would’ve gone longer if they didn’t suddenly forget how to breathe.
When they stopped, Hunter saw his girlfriend’s hair was full of beautiful, colorful plants. Mainly holly, Christmas roses and, of course, mistletoe. He took a moment to admire her before laughing again.
“Next time you want to kiss me, just tell me.”
“Oh, but that takes the fun out of it!”

Pumpkin picking
Sooo this is the fic ive been working on!! It's a silly lil huntlow/hexsquad fic that takes place the day before TTT!! Also it's my first fic posted here, so don't be too harsh pls
---------------------------------------------------
"So, are we there yet?"
"Hunter, this is your third time asking", Amity sighed. "However, are we there yet?"
"Yeah, it's right over this hill!" Luz said. "But i wanna do a dramatic reveal, so you have to climb up the hill first, and i'll show you and you all will gasp!"
"Whatever makes you happy", Amity said. She hasn't seen Luz smiling much in the past couple of weeks, but this brought her so much joy, so Amity didn't mind some theatrics.
Luz stood on the top of the hill, covering most of the field beside it with her arms and body. She was wearing a red shirt with some bats, a black denim jacket, a pair of black shorts, her usual white boots and unmatched striped socks. It was pretty warm for Gracefield that autumn, so she took advantage of that. Luz watched her friends line up in front of her and took a good look at them - they all decide to wear halloweeny outfits for the ocasion.
Amity was wearing and orange turtleneck, a black skirt with buttons and black heeless shoes. She tucked her hair back with a headband, Sabrina Spellman-style, and looked determined(and extremely beautiful). Gus stood next to her, and he was practically shaking with excitement. He dressed up in an orange sweatshirt with a pumpkin face drawn on it, a pair of black jeans and black converse shoes. Hunter slightly calmed Gus by putting his hand on his shoulder. Hunter himself was wearing an orange shirt with another white long-sleeved shirt under it, light blue jeans and a pair of red crocks, which looked horrendous, but Luz was happy that Hunter was discovering his fashion sence(even if it's awful). Willow, who was standing beside him, was rocking a long black dress with many layers. She tied her hair into a small ponytail, and, for some reason, her footwear of choice was a pair of yellow rubber boots. Luz perfectly knew the energy that was sparking between Willow and Hunter - these two, for sure, wanted to hold hands, but couldn't bring themselves to do it. Vee was absent - she said something about dishes to wash, but Luz was pretty sure it was her strange secret fear of pumpkins.
"A-a-and, you can look!", Luz put her hands down, and the gang saw a field of pumpkins.
"This is not as exciting as i expected..." Hunter said.
"This is just as exciting as i expected!", Gus yelled.
"Okay, first we need to split! I'm going with Amity and Gus," Luz said with a sly smile. "And Hunter is going with Willow! Okaythatsitthelastonetogettothefieldisaloser!"
After blurting it out, she grabbed Amity's and Gus' hands and ran down the hill. Hunter and Willow rushed after them. They gave up almost immediately and decided to walk slowly and take their time.
The first minutes alone with Willow were awkward. Her eyes were so green, full of confusion and wonder. She had a beautiful smile on her face. All the orange around them highlighted her black dress. All Hunter could think about is how much he wanted to hold her hand. And all he did was trying to stare at pumpkins, not at her.
But then she said:
"Look, this pumpkin looks exactly like our abomination teacher did after we beat their team at flyer derby!"
That just made Hunter burst out laughing and broke the tension.
"Can we not choose this one then? That guy creeped me out. Maybe we should take that one that looks like a coffee cup."
"A cup of pumpkin spice latte!"
"Exactly!"
"I love pumpkin spice," Willow said, hiding her eyes away. "Maybe we should get some someday. Like, um, just the two of us..."
Hunter knew what that meant - Luz watched all those crappy romcoms all the time, and when one character wanted to date another character, this is exactly what they said. This meant a lot.
Willow wanted to date him.
Willow wanted to date him!
This thought filled Hunter's entire mind and heart. His face was so red he was sure it's actually on fire. Panic overtook him, and the best he could do is say:
"Yea...um...i need to go to...wash my flowers and...sorry..."
He walked away, slowly at first, but then just started running.
What was he running from? A girl he really, really likes liked him back... Maybe that actually was the reason. No one's ever looked at him like Willow. No one talked to him like her - like she knew everything about him, and accepted all of him. And that novelty was scary, even though Hunter knew that-
He tripped and fell on his face. Great. Absolutely what he needed right now.
"Oh my titan, dude, you found the best one!"
It was Gus' voice. Hunter turned around and saw Luz, Amity and Gus. The latter was holding the pumpkin Hunter tripped on.
"I totally agree!" Amity said. "It's big, and tough, and just the right color!"
Willow reached the group. "Does anyone want to ask Hunter if he's okay, guys?"
"I'm fine", Hunter replied. He looked at Willow, who was so worried about him, and still cared deeply about him even after he ran from her, and added: "And yes. I'd love to go with you very much."
"Go...Where?" Luz said, confused.
"It's a long story," Hunter said. He stood up. "Let's grap this pumpkin and head home."
Him and Willow were holding hands the entire trip back.

For Huntlow Week day 2 (umbrella), I was inspired to write a little fic! Plus a sketch to go with it:
Tumblr media
Image description: A pencil drawing of Willow and Hunter standing under a tree. Willow is holding an umbrella over both of them and they're smiling at each other.
Read the fic on Ao3 or below! (745 words)
Willow's therapist had told her she didn't have to be the responsible one all the time, but right now, Willow wished she'd been a bit more responsible.
The first drop of boiling rain hit her shoe with a sizzle. Willow ducked under the shelter of a tree, not quickly enough to avoid another droplet on her arm. She hissed. She hadn't packed a first-aid kit, or an umbrella, or even a raincoat. It was just supposed to be a little walk in the forest. And now she was stuck in a surprise boiling-rainstorm, utterly unprepared.
Text friends, Clover buzzed. At least Willow's palisman was with her.
Willow pulled out her scroll and sent a message to the groupchat: "SOS caught in rainstorm"
Almost immediately, responses flooded in: "r u ok??" "Take shelter!"
"I'm under a tree," Willow replied, and sent a selfie. "just annoyed that I didn't think to bring an umbrella and now my dads prob won't let me go out alone again for a while"
"I cAN bring you an umbrella,. send location." Hunter's texting style had been getting better since Willow had first met him about a year ago, and at this point, she found the occasional errors endearing. (As well as his nerdiness, and his sense of loyalty, and a lot of other things... but that was another discussion.) Even though he was obviously the only one who could come rescue her, with his immunity to boiling rain, she couldn't help but smile at the offer.
Willow shared her location- a forest not far from Bonesborough- texted her dads that she was okay, and settled in to wait. Clover rested on her shoulder. It wasn't a heavy rainstorm, but drops occasionally filtered through the edges of the tree's canopy, and Willow pressed her back against the trunk to avoid them.
Soon, Hunter arrived on his mechanical staff. He wore a raincoat, but where the rain hit his bare hands and face, it slid off harmlessly like human-realm rain. "Are you okay?" he asked as soon as he'd landed. "I got here as fast as I could, but I had to find an umbrella first- here." He handed an umbrella to Willow.
She opened it, feeling much more secure under the boiling-rain-proof material. "Thank you. I'm okay, but I really appreciate you coming here."
"No problem." The tension in Hunter's body drained away, leaving him standing there awkwardly. He eventually asked, "Do you want to fly back to your house or stay here?"
"I was always taught it's safer to shelter in place till the rain ends," Willow replied, "and besides, it would be kind of hard to hold the umbrella while flying."
"If anyone could do it, it would be you, Captain. Or I could hold it over you if you want- I just don't want to leave you here alone."
Oh. "You could wait here with me," Willow suggested. That... would be kind of nice, actually, she thought.
"Oh yeah. I could." Hunter gave a soft smile.
"Come here." Willow beckoned Hunter closer. "I know the rain doesn't hurt you, but it's cozy under here."
Hunter obliged, and she shifted the umbrella to cover both of them. Their arms were touching... Then Hunter noticed the red mark the boiling raindrop had left on Willow's arm.
"You're hurt! One second, I brought a first-aid kit." Hunter rummaged through his bag.
"It's just a small burn." It didn't even hurt anymore, but Willow was touched by his care nevertheless.
With the precision of a field medic but the care of a friend, Hunter dabbed antibiotic cream on the burn and covered it with a band-aid. Willow tried not to focus on his hands on her skin, how close he was, the intimacy of him caring for her.
Hunter released her arm when he was done- was she imagining the blush on his face? "There you go."
"Thank you." Willow could tell she was blushing too. "I feel so silly for not bringing a first-aid kit or umbrella of my own."
"You don't have to be perfectly prepared all the time. I've got you."
Willow's heart was glowing and blooming and doing ridiculous somersaults. Did Hunter even know he had just said the sweetest thing ever?
"Thank you." Willow tentatively reached out and took his hand. It was warm and calloused and fit perfectly with hers.
And so for a while, they stood together under the umbrella, holding hands, watching the boiling rain.

just a quick thing i wrote. it has spoilers for thanks to them and is mainly surrounding huntlow.
-------------------------------------
The sky of the Boiling Isles looked as if fire had burned it. Its usual soft pink color blazed a deep red color. Around them it looked as if everything had been burned. Maybe it had. It had been months. Who knew what had happened. If anyone was even alive.
Willow felt herself swallow a lump in her throat. She couldn’t think like that. She mustn't. She was the optimistic one. She was the one who lifted everyone's spirits. Even in the Human Realm when they all had no clue if they would ever be able to build a portal back home, it didn’t matter. Even if she could be sad she wasn’t going to let anyone know. Not even Gus or Hunter. If her pretending everything was okay gave them even a little piece of hope that’s all that mattered. Even if she had to hurt and pretend she wasn’t hurting just so the rest of them felt a little bit better so be it. Willow was the one who salvaged the broken pieces and made something of them. Willow was the one who quietly helped and comforted others. Willow didn’t care what happened to her. As long as her friends were happy nothing really mattered. No matter how much she hurt.
They had all decided to rest for the night in the remains of one of the nearby buildings that had been destroyed. They were taking watch in shifts while the others rested. Willow and Hunter had both volunteered the first shift. They sat outside the remains of the building watching the familiar yet unfamiliar world around them.
Willow looked over at Hunter. He seemed lost. She didn’t blame him. After everything that happened she didn’t know how he was able to even stand up properly. Everything had been ripped from him. Just when he had finally started to feel okay, some sense of normality the universe had ripped it away from him. When would this poor boy stop being hurt? Could he ever catch a break?
Willow walked over to him. Her hand hovered over his shoulder but she decided against touching him. He seemed a bit on edge after everything that had happened. He hadn’t said anything to her. It hurt a little but she didn’t want to bother him. Too much anyway.
“Hey.”
“Hey.” He didn’t turn to look at her. He just kept staring at the sky.
“What are you thinking about?” she asked, trying not to push him too much.
“Not much.”
“Really?” She said laughing a little, “Never would have expected that from you.”
Hunter didn’t respond. He traced the new scars that led up his arm. Willow flinched a little as she looked at him. His eyes had changed color and his hair had grown longer. She knew how much he hated the curl of hair in front of his face. She knew how horrible long hair made him feel. She couldn’t even begin to imagine how much these new scars on him hurt.
“Are you going to cut your hair again?” she asked him.
“I don’t know,” he mumbled “Seems kind of stupid to care about my appearance after everything that’s happened.”
“It’s not that you look bad,” Willow reassured him “I just know that you prefer having shorter hair.”
“Yeah,” he admitted softly, “but I don’t want to prioritize anything other than defeating Belos and the Collector.”
Willow reached for his left hand. He didn’t flinch. He barely reacted to her. He let her intertwine her fingers with his own.
“Well if you’re not going to prioritize making you feel better than I’m going to.” He looked at her, surprised by these words. She held his gaze fiercely. His face flushed. She wasn’t backing away from this decision. Nothing he could say would change it. Willow wasn’t even going to let him try.
“I’m not worth your concern,” he whispered softly as he tucked a loose piece of hair behind her ear, “I’ll hold you back.”
“Hunter, since when has caring about you made me less powerful?” she asked, taking his right hand in her own as well. She wasn’t going to let him run away from her, he needed her. He needed her help, her to give him hope and she was willing to do so. So why did he keep pushing her away?
“I-” He stopped and looked at their hands and linked his fingers with hers holding them close to his face, “Sorry, you’re always powerful no matter what.”
“Well then let me help comfort you,” she hated how her voice cracked “why won’t you let me, why do you keep running away from me?”
She felt her eyes become hot as tears boiled in them. Hunter reached forward, softly brushing the tears away while not letting go of her hands. She leaned into his touch before drawing back a bit. She wasn’t the one who needed comfort. He was.
“I’m always here Captain,” he said gently, “I promise I’m not running away from you.”
“Then tell me what's wrong, let me help you, let me listen to you.” She said, pulling his hands closer to her.
“I will,” he said leaning closer to her, “but only if you let me do the same for you.”
Willow pulled back with surprise. No. She couldn’t let him focus on her. She wouldn’t let anyone try to take time to help her. They all mattered more. Isn’t that what she kept telling herself?
Isn’t that what you keep telling Hunter not to think?
She pulled gently on the hood of her costume trying to ground herself. Did she even know what she felt? What was she supposed to feel? Was she allowed to be sad? By her own logic she knew that she was. Normally her heart didn’t believe it no matter how much her head said otherwise. No matter how much anyone tried to convince her otherwise.
But Hunter wasn’t just anyone.
And her heart really believed in Hunter.
A lot.
“I’ll tell you,” he smiled a little when she said this, “but you have to tell me first.”
“Looks like you’ve got a deal, Park.” he joked, his lips quirking up into his usual goofy smile that she was so fond of.
“So, Flapjack.” she said quietly.
Hunter's smile fell quickly and he let go of her hands.
“He shouldn’t have done that.”
“Hunter you were dying-”
“I don’t matter, he did.”
“You both matter a lot.”
“Are you saying you're glad he died?” He said sharply. It stung that he would even think such a thing about her.
“No,” she said sharply, “Flapjack is- was important to me.”
“You said ‘was.’” He countered crossing his arms.
“Hunter, c'mon you know what I meant! You know I feel horrible about the fact that he had to sacrifice himself for you!”
He didn’t say anything. He caved in and rested his forehead on her shoulder.
“Flapjack should have let me die.”
“Hunter-”
“Willow please,” He whispered, “Just stop caring about me, nobody should.”
She pushed him off her softly, holding his shoulders so he had to look at her.
“Hunter,” she said firmly, “I’m not nobody and I'm not going to stop caring about you.”
“Sorry I shouldn’t have said nobody-”
“Hunter.”
He looked into her soft green eyes that seemed to pierce through him.
“You matter a lot to me, nothings going to change that no matter how hard you try.”
He didn’t say anything. Had she messed up? Was he upset? Was he going to argue with her? What if-
Hunter wrapped his arms around her waist and gently pressed his forehead against hers.
“Same to you Captain.”
Willow blushed fiercely, pressing her face into his chest so he wouldn’t notice. He didn’t say anything. They didn’t need to. Willow and Hunter. Hunter and Willow. They mattered to each other immensely. Even when the other trapped themselves in a void of nothing but self hatred the other would always be there to help them out.
“Does my hair really look bad?” he asked her with a small laugh.
She glanced up at him quickly before holding him tighter. She looked up and smiled at him, amusement causing her eyes to glimmer slightly. Hunter blushed slightly as she started to ruffle up his hair softly.
“You’ve never looked bad,” she said gently combing his curly piece of hair back behind his ear with her fingers, “but I also know you don’t like your hair like this.”
“Hmmm,” he hummed softly, pulling her slightly closer to him, “It does remind me a lot of Belos.”
“I’m going to burn that lump of slime into dust the second I see him.” Willow growled angrily.
“I don’t know if fire works on him.” Hunter said thoughtfully.
“Well I’ll find something that does then.” she decided.
Willow noticed how the sky had turned purple while they were talking; the night slowly claiming the land. Maybe this world hasn't changed too much. She looked up at Hunter. Though his eyes had turned a soft brown and his face was covered with even more scars the expression on his face was familiar. She smiled as she gently placed her right hand under his chin tilting his face slightly so their noses almost touched.
“I’ll cut your hair as soon as we get the chance.” Willow said.
“Okay.” was all he managed to say as she leaned into him.
Willow closed her eyes and pressed her lips gently against his. Hunter blinked, surprised by her actions but closed his eyes leaning towards her. Willow ran her fingers through his hair again, completely lost in their kiss.

Gus woke up and rubbed his eyes trying to remember where he was. He was supposed to take the next watch. The moon was shining and the sky was a deep purple. Hunter and Willow had clearly extended their shift. Why did they have to be so stupidly selfless all the time? Gus got up to go tell the both of them to get some rest.
“Hey both of you, I’m going to take my shift now.”
He peaked out of the remains of the building to see Hunter and Willow quickly move their heads away from each other. They held each other in their arms and the two blushed a red almost as deep as the color of the sky had been earlier. Gus rolled his eyes.
“If you two want to keep making out or whatever that's fine but someone should really be keeping watch.”
Willow pulled her hood over her head as much as she could out of embarrassment while Hunter quickly brought his hands to his sides and awkwardly sat down on the ground next to where Willow was standing.
“You guys should sleep,” Gus said gently, “I can keep watch.”
“Nope,” Hunter said, “You can both go to bed, I can keep watch.”
“Oh my titan Hunter, how many times are we going to have to tell you that you shouldn’t sacrifice your sleep?” Gus asked, crossing his arms.
“Well I-”
“Hunter, I think it would be best if you went to bed at some point.” Willow said gently brushing her fingers against his left shoulder.
He looked up at her and sighed, “Fine but make Amity take this shift or something, Gus shouldn’t lose sleep.”
Willow laughed, “I’m going to tell her you said that.”

I remember skies, Reflected in your eyes…
Wrote pure fluff for @skeptical-rainbows inspired by this commission from last week!
Hunter caught Willow watching him through the glow of her rounded gold frames. Eyes soft, she smiled and arched a brow.
“Mmmmmm.” She laughed gently. “You think they all look like wolves!”
“Nah!” Hunter shook his head. “Uh, just the extra wolfy looking ones, you know?”

Snippet Sunday
Thank you for the tag @ash-mcj and @greyhavenisback <3
Here’s a snippet of chapter six of my huntlow college au:
The words fall out of his mouth before he can think to stop them. "What if I was your boyfriend?" Willow chokes on her tea, spluttering around a mouthful of what's supposed to be soothing sleepy-time chamomile as she turns her wide-eyed gaze on Hunter. "What?" she asks, soft and disbelieving. "Uh, I mean—" Hunter falters, blush creeping up the back of his neck like a heatwave. "What if I pretended to be your boyfriend?" he quickly course-corrects. "Came by the shop at closing time and walked you home every night? I know you're more than capable of handling yourself, but everyone needs a little backup sometimes. I could be that for you. Keep you company on your walk home." Willow blinks a few times, giving her whiplashed heart a moment to catch up. "You would do that for me?" she asks softly. "Of course," he says automatically, leaving no room for doubt as he leans in a little bit closer, drapes his arms across the back of the couch and tucks his chin into the curve of his elbow, gazing up at her with that soft, something-close-to-smitten look he always seems to reserve just for her. "I'd do anything for you."
