The student protests for Palestine have been an amazing show of solidarity and support and seeing the way that so many young people are willing to stand up for their values is admirable when so many others stay silent. But this is all to say that we are entering a pattern of glorifying these white “martyrs” from the global west to put all of this effort and resources and media coverage into instead of the actual cause they are fighting for.
I saw the same thing happen with Aaron Bushnell, when his self immolation was being talked about more than the actual genocide in Gaza (which went against everything he said he was self immolating for in the first place).
And again this happened with the prisoner from the US who worked 136 hours just to be able to donate his $17 check to Palestine aid efforts. In response to this, people wanted to help him and ended up raising over $100,000 in a gofundme for him. This feels almost satirical, as every gofundme to help Gazans evacuate Palestine and get to safety has a goal of less than $100,000 and most of them are not even close to reaching it.
And now, there are more and more posts on how to get aid to the college student encampments, and the “urgency” of getting enough bail funds for the students who have been arrested during them. Talking about Palestine itself and getting resources to Palestine has almost been put on the back burner in favour of making all Palestine related news about college students in the United States.
It think it is valuable to recognise the selflessness and importance of these protests, and getting these students resources but what is MORE important, and what these people are truly fighting for, and protesting, and make a statement about is PALESTINE. We have unsurprisingly reached the point where there are people who care much more about the white people fighting for the cause from the comfort of living in the global west than they care about the Palestinians undergoing a genocide in Gaza. It’s become almost blatant racism, the way people begin to drop everything the second a white/usamerican person does something in regards to helping Palestine, but will not put the same effort into a Palestinian IN Gaza who is telling their story or asking for help. I respect anyone who has done absolutely anything to help Palestine, but I hope people are starting to see the pattern of how the media gravitates towards the “white saviour/perfect martyr” instead of the first hand accounts coming from those in Gaza.
Anyway FIND A GOFUNDME AND DONATE TO HELP FAMILIES IN GAZA ESCAPE GENOCIDE

More Penelope discourse
On the topic of female rage. Here’s something you may not want to hear: Penelope can be vicious. And I personally love her for it.
What I love about show Penelope is that she is a good person, she had a wonderful friendship with Eloise in s1 and trough most of s2, she cares about her family even when they are so dismissive of her, she likes dogs, she is is sweet and intuitive and funny and so terribly cute.
But she’s vicious.
And I’m sorry if that intimidates the crowd who likes their female characters to fit into the Mother, Witch, Harlot stereotype. But the truth is that women can be quite vicious creatures when we want to be, no matter how nice, no matter how good hearted, we are. If you push the wrong button we are willing to ruin lives, without remorse and without apology.
I find it really funny how so many people are intimidated by that aspect of show Penelope under the guise of ‘oh she’s not a good person’.  Oh please what intimidates that crowd is that show Penelope IS a good person, that she does have good intentions. That she still has the capacity to be the villain of someone else’s story when she’s 100% the protagonist of her own.
Daphne sort of glossed over the concept of how women are expected to fit themselves into a box to survive in this world where they are punished for everything, but Penelope is a better example of what happens when a woman in Daphne’s situation of ‘sit still, be smart, and never get angry’ situation, has power.
Power to hurt back, if someone hurts her. And I personally think this makes Penelope’s character more interesting. The concept that good women can be monsters and still be the absolute most wonderful people you will ever meet, that’s just something you don’t see in media a lot. It may feel contradicting, but it is appealing to me.
It’s usually more understandable if the character starts out as a bad guy and then does does something unexpectedly good. But the whole “ how can a person be so good and yet….do something bad?”. Well that, that is what I call good writing.
That’s an aspect of Penelope I look forward to seeing in S3. I want to see Penelope show that just as she is good, she can be vicious and unapologetic if you cross her.
 And that’s the tea.

i hate the state our government is in, i believe much of our government is corrupt or broken, and i detest the two party system
the way our first-past-the-post voting system works, basically guarantees we wind up with two parties that nobody likes, because it forces logical people to vote against the worst instead of voting for the best.
here is a great short video explaining the how and why (and i highly recommend CGP Grey's other videos explaining other voting systems that are better, and also his video on gerrymandering)
youtube
but that's the voting system we have. We should change it, but in the meantime, we have to vote using the system that exists, and that leaves us with a choice between democrats and republicans. Usually this voting system results in two extremist parties on far sides, but we seem to have an extremist party and a centrist party at the moment.
republicans have pretty clearly devolved into the party of fascism. Even my misguided family members that voted for Regan back in the day are too disgusted with what the republicans have become to vote republican, and that's, boy, that says something.
and democrats? i often have problems with what they do. It wouldn't be politics otherwise But the democrats are electing black and gay and muslim and trans people to important offices. Democrats are trying to do some things in areas i care about. They really are trying to do some things we care about very much, and when you look into why it’s not succeeding it’s usually because of underhanded republican shit
For instance, bills get passed around before they get voted into law, and something called a “rider” can be attached as part of the bill.
So for example, maybe democrats want a law that makes equal pay for woman legally protected, and they call it the Women’s Equality Bill. So republicans will attach a rider that says “and also every teacher has to carry a gun” Now the bill is no longer about equal pay for women, and even if it makes it to vote, democrats have to risk every major news outlet publishing headlines that say they voted no on something called the Women’s Equality Bill, or that they voted yes on More Guns in Schools
(because those kind of inflammatory headlines make media outlets more money, and we all know how often anyone reads more than the headline)
A lot of shit like that happens where republicans basically try to game the system every way they can to create a christian corporate oligarchy and get wealthy, while dems lose by trying to play fair.
Meanwhile the republicans are trying to undo any progress we have made, start border wars, destroy our health and education.. i mean ffs republicans have repeatedly fought in many states for girls to be able to be married between the ages of 13-16 (which is to say they’ve KEPT IT LEGAL, outvoting many democrat attempts to pass laws that raise the age to 18)
They’re actively obstructing attempts at reducing climate change, they’re banning books! they are the party of book burning! of censoring schools! they are by many definitions of the word, a de facto party of fascism.
So like, don’t expect a vote to solve everything, but also, let’s not do republicans any favors. Vote, and vote blue. And not just for president. Participate in votes for governors and congress people and senators.
and maybe also we can agitate for a change to our voting system, because otherwise we will only ever have two political parties, and we probably won't like either of them.

i think its so funny that alumni from schools like harvard and columbia that were there during the protests in the 60s-80s are expressing support for students currently protesting against the genocide in palestine, and random zionists that were NOT at these protests in the 60s-80s have the never ending audacity to tell these alumni "well thats different, what you protested was good and what they're protesting is bad." as if protesters against the vietnam war and apartheid south africa were not also demonized, arrested, brutalized, and even killed for their activism. history only remembers them fondly after the damage has already been done.
