The slider thrashes in his sleep, breathing labored. His brows were furrowed, lips a tight line, almost as if he were in pain. And if Chief were to wake and be honest, he was in pain. Very much so.

His markings were on fire- literally on fire. Chief could hardly see through the yellow flames that rose from his face stripes. His tormentor, a twisted, dark version of himself, markings ablaze like his own and eyes a blinding white inferno, just smirked. Sadistic. Cruel. Twisted.

"Just give yourself to me," the entity purrs, voice a sickening, twisted version of Chief's own that echoed in the void his mind had trapped him in. "It won't hurt anymore if you do, I promise."

Chief hisses, wild and angered and pained. He hated how his counterpart talked so sweetly like that, cooing promises with a tilt of its head while Chief burned alive. Defiant as always, the slider draws his blades despite the pain he's in, and the shadow sighs. "This little dance again, ̴͈̝̾͠ ̸̪̘͑͗ ̵̯̌͌̽ ̴̜̀̆̕ ̸̼̿͜͜ ̸̫̜̩̃ ̸̛͕̞͈͌̒ ̷̛̼͛̍ ̸̟̅̎̀ ̷̨̙̫̋͂̉ ̶̪̙̝͝ ?"

They both knew how this ended, but Chief still fought. Every time, he still fought. Because he was scared, and that entity knew it.

Chief's tormentor drew his own swords, blades forged from literal fire, the flames starting from its palms and extending outward until it again mirrored its counterpart again. And no sooner did the imposter get into a battle stance did Chief rush forward.

The two clashed, but Chief's tormentor was faster. It got more hits in, the fiery blades leaving burning cuts that glowed instead of bled. The shadow manages to knock one of Chief's swords away- his katana. Perseverance. Chief continues to fight despite the fact, but the entity makes quick work of his ō-wakizashi. Diligence.

Methodological. Symbolic. A message.

Chief will not persevere. He was not diligent. Once again, he will not win this battle.

The entity rushes in, a mirror of how Chief started the fight, and it pins the slider to the hard floor of the void. Panicked, terrified, a wild animal cornered, Chief bites and claws and kicks, hissing and clicking, trying to free himself. A futile last ditch effort to try to come out on top for once.

The entity raises one of its burning blades above its head, tip pointed directly at Chief's plastron, and despite the yellow fire lapping at his skin on his markings and his wounds, the slider's blood runs cold.

A hand raises in defense, and as the shadow drives the blade down, Chief screams.

Chief wakes with a start, heart pounding in his chest and eyes wide in fear, watering in pain. He was shaking, terrified, eyes darting around his surroundings, confused as to why he wasn't in his own little makeshift home in some back alley of the Hidden City. Had he been kidnapped? Was he drugged? His mind whirled with possibilities of what could've happened, why he was here in this unfamiliar place.

Then he remembered.

He'd crashed, fallen asleep in a place he doesn't normally. Not safe. Not safe. That's why that.... thing appeared in his dreams again, isn't it? So aggressively and vividly Chief feels like his stripes are still burning. Still feels searing cuts left from those fiery blades. The burn of a blade made of fire piercing his plastron. It's because he was vulnerable, wasn't it? An easy tar-

A voice pulls Chief out of his frazzled mostly-awake-but-still-exhausted mind and he goes stiff. It sounded worried. Firm, but worried.

"I want to know why you're scared."

Chief is many things, but scared? Scared is not one of them. It is. He is. He's terrified.

"I'm fine." The slider lies easily, his tone sharp and rough, defensive, hiding his fear of his nightmare- of that monster that haunts his unconscious mind- behind his usual exhaustion. "I'm fine," he repeats, softer, attempting to reassure this time. "Don't worry about it."

Ahem, I am so glad you asked.

Okay, so a while back, I was really trying to figure out the correlation between the Rat King and Splinter. I still don't fully understand what really went down, but I do believe that Splinter is dead.

Listen, you said that Draxum is a really good Dad. So I think it is more likely that what happened did happen. But, you said in the tags that he still views humanity as dangerous and foreign. So, I think that Draxum does think that humans are to be feared.

When Huginn and Muginn explained why Spots room had some human stuff in it, Draxum freaked out and started asking things and saying that they could have brought back a human transmitter or a tracking device, lol. So he is paranoid in some aspects.

I mean, why did Spot attack April? I already mentioned some possibilities in the past, but now I think he attacked her just because she's a human who's affiliated with his brothers. I don't even think he knows she's their friend. Like, has Draxum even mentioned the fact that he saw April and his sons together already??? Did he even take into consideration when Leo said they were "all set in the Dad department"??? That's definitely ominous!

I think the best possible reason why Draxum could be using the Rat King as an illusion to scare Spot is because of his overprotectiveness. He just wants to keep his son safe. He's already lost four, and so he couldn't handle losing another one. So maybe he's using the Rat King as a disguise for Splinter? Maybe everything that Spot experienced when him and his brothers were held captive was all just a nightmare. Maybe Splinter is using it to scare him away from the dangers of this world...?

But that doesn't really add up because why is Draxum sending him on a mission to save his brothers? He's asked about what happened when he was taken by the Rat King, so why would he just bring up something traumatic that never happened? To be manipulative? That doesn't sound like your Draxum.

The Rat King terrorized Spot's brothers, but where's any sign of the others being traumatized? Did they just forget? I know Spot was significantly younger than all of them, but they all were still kids. They may have been affected a little differently, but It doesn't change what they went through.

Leo says they already have a Dad, so if Splinters dead, who could possibly be raising them? Has April already met their Dad? In some sick way, has the RAT KING been raising them this whole time? I can imagine that once Spot meets his brothers and goes to their lair, he'll see him and totally freak out and realize they really don't remember anything. He'll sound insane to them. It'll be even crazier for his brothers when they find out that Draxum is their actual Dad since they don't remember the childhood they spent with him.

I think it's possible that Splinter did, in fact, take the other turtles because he thought Draxum had ill intentions with the turtles, but he was wrong. I already called out this parallel with the Rat King and Splinter. But it could still just be a difference in universes. I mean, maybe the Rat King, whoever he may be in this universe, came to Draxum's home and took his sons to get revenge? He could be a failed experiment of Draxum's, or maybe he's someone that Draxum wronged in the past, and he just doesn't remember him.

Like, why would he specifically just take his sons? Why did he kill Splinter and not Draxum? Why burn Draxum's lab to the ground? Why did he mind control them? Maybe he's wasn't thinking straight? I really don't know.

I was asking a while back how the others were able to get away from the Rat King if all Draxum could save was Spot. If the Rat King hasn't been taking care of them, then how did they get away? Who found them all hurt and alone? It seemed to me like they were defenseless when they were ALL there together. I mean, there's proof. So when Spot was taken, how'd that even the odds? Did the Rat King get distracted, and they ran off behind his back? Possibly.

And for some reason, Raph got mind controlled? It doesn't seem like any of the others did as well, so why him? Because he's the oldest and the strongest? Did the Rat King use him to keep them from running off? Like, whenever they'd wonder off, would Raph go and get them? 'Cause if that's the case... god. That's so messed up. Using their big brother that would never hurt them in a million years to keep them in line? Jesus. That explains this... :(

Anyway, I am so baffled as to how this is all gonna fix itself. Like, we've seen future stuff of the turtles past all this mess. How long does it take for them to heal from this? Splinter getting killed in front of them, getting taken by the Rat King and leaving their father, having god knows what done to them by the Rat King in their time of captivity, getting separated by Spot and Spot seperated by his brothers, them forgetting Spot for many many years and out of no where meeting their long lost brother dragging their unconscious friend to GOD KNOWS WHERE! WHAT THE HELL 😂???

I'm at a loss, to be honest. I will be waiting here as you decide whatever's gonna happen after this point. I, for one, cannot choose just one single possibility. This story could go either way, tbh. All I know is that this is gonna be really hard to explain to his brothers, lmao. I am very excited to see them interact, though. I think that Spot and his brothers' time together will kind of be like the Mutant Manhunt au where Raph got separated by the brothers and was at the battle Nexus. Or, the story will be a lot more chaotic. Again, it could go either way. It really depends on who their "Dad" is, in my opinion. It would've been cool if April's Mom took them in, but that wouldn't explain the Dad department Leo was mentioning. Unless it was a joke and he was talking about Lou Jitsu or Jupiter Jim, and I shouldn't take it so seriously, lol.

I hope you like my rant. I sound so normal about this au, don't I? (If you saw any grammatical errors, no, you didn't).

(Real quick cuz I love this detail— but if you look closely you can see that the shaky lines surround just Draxum in one panel… but then spread to Mikey too when he starts crying.)

I heard one theory that Drax was out of the country getting magic supplies and junk… I like that idea, of him traveling to Japan to learn about ancient Yokai culture and legends…

But personally I think he was just. Busy. Or trapped. Similar to how Cass was there, she just wasn’t “there” there. I assume that he was either at the school, at his apartment, or down in the Hidden City somewhere. He probably wanted to find the guys but got caught up in the Krang attacking wherever he was, and didn’t get a chance to call them or check in until a fair amount of time after everything was done.

{For my comic of Draxum’s Nightmare, however, I like to think that he was doing nothing in particular. He was relaxing, enjoying his day, plotting some mad scientist stuff, and didn’t even hear about the Krang attack until hours after it was over. He was maybe in the Hidden City shopping and renovating his lab, doing some fine work, maybe getting a new robe too, and of course filing paperwork with the Council of Heads so that he was no longer a wanted (goat) man. And then when he goes home to his apartment, via portal of course, he turns on the TV and sees the news. His heart drops as he realizes what he missed. Draxum is not a begging man, but he actually begins to pray that they all made it through safely or survived, because of course they’d be in the middle of it. His phone blows up with texts from April and Mikey and Donnie and Raph and probably not Leo except for a meme that says “I lived, sheep man!” with him giving a peace sign while he lies on a stretcher with a leg cast and arm cast and enough bandages to qualify him as a mummy. But they lived. They are okay… mostly. They didn’t need his help after all. Sure, it might’ve been easier if he was there, but there’s no point in dwelling on the “what ifs”, especially since it all worked out. Splinter calls. Cassandra calls. Mikey calls. He goes to help them and hears about the entire battle… not like he was worried, he’s seen what they can do— MIKEY DID WHAT.

Oh.

Oh heads.

And his greatest fear haunts him. Because… he wasn’t there. And one small mistake could have cost the life of the one Hamato that saved him… changed him… accepted him. When no one else did. When everyone saw him as either a failure or a villain… and he could have lost that one precious child.

And he could have helped, he knew what to do! He knew how to use that kind of magic and he’s had experience opening portals to other dimensions!! HE COULD HAVE DONE IT BUT MIKEY DID AND HE HAD NO IDEA HOW TO DO THAT AND IT SHOULD HAVE KILLED HIM—! …Mikey should be dead at this very moment.

And Draxum would never have had a chance to say goodbye.}

You said that Donnie in ur AU is inspired by Arcane, specifically Jinx. So, in conclusion also the abuse Jinx suffered by Silco, the equivalent to Draxum in Donnies case. But the thing is, is that Jinx and Silco had a very twisted but kind of affectionate relationship, while Donnie up to now just seems to straight up resent Draxum, even when not realizing that some of the thing Daxum did where fucked up (like his Name, Three). Is or was there some kind of affection or perceived affection that makes Donnie stay with Draxum or is it just because he doesn't really have any other choice?

So in Arcane I think most of Jinx’s madness comes from her issues with Vi and her abandonment. While you’re right, Silco and Jinx’s relationship wasn’t super healthy I don’t think he was anywhere near as abusive as I made Draxum to Donnie. Silco was manipulative out of what he thought was him protecting Jinx, and he obviously loved and considered her his daughter, there is zero of that affection between Draxum and Three.

Draxum sees Three as a means of perfecting his work and that’s it, and he spends probably about thirteen years or so trying, before giving Three up as a lost cause. As far a Draxum is concerned, each failed experiment he put Three through, were tests, and most ended with what he considered to be unremarkable results.

Going through all of that, only to then be labeled as inadequate, is the final breaking point for Three. But instead of hating Draxum, this only makes Three try harder to please him, because there has to be some way he can be useful, then Draxum might see him as something more than an irritation. It breeds a twisted kind of affection towards Draxum on Three’s end that comes from him just not wanting to face reality. And the more Draxum ignores him, the more Three acts out to get any form of attention he can.

He gets even worse when he meets Leo, and then Raph and Mikey. Part of him is over the moon, because maybe if he can convince them to join Draxum, then that would finally make the man happy. Another part is hella resentful—these are his brothers Draxum never shut up about? They’re nothing special at all! And what’s worse, they seem so close already. Even Two, who Three tried so hard to be so nice to—seems like he’s happier now that he’s aligned himself with One and Four.

Have the boys ever accidentally been hurt by one of their parents while being kidnapped? Like maybe draxum's vines were a bit too strong, or big mama's goons a bit too rough?

How are their personalities different from cannon? They've been influenced by their parents, so obviously they wouldn't be quite the same. Donnie basically has (more) consistent access to praise from big mama, they probably aren't ignored as much between the three of them compared to just splinter, raph (and by extension the others) are encouraged to be violent by draxum.... So it would make sense if they were different from their cannon selves.

So, you've established that big mama has grown to love them (in her... Less than ideal way), and hopefully splinter does too, but does draxum care for them? Or does he just want them to exterminate the humans, and only sees them as a tool and something to work on, as well as use to be petty?

WHAT CRIMES HAVE THEY COMMITTED. SPILL THE TEA

So, splinter isn't as depressed, but does he still sort of ignore them due to emotions? Being an actor is probably exhausting sometimes, so maybe he's just so tired a lot, coupled with the fact that he doesn't get much time with them, that maybe he doesn't interact with them as much as the other two?

Very much so. It was worse when they were younger before Draxum and Big Mama actually started caring about them. Draxum less so because he didn’t want his experiments to be damaged but Big mama? Didn’t care much at all if the kids got roughed up by her goons, as long as she was there to tend to bumps and bruises, scolding her workers to gain favour from the boys. It's part of why the kids don’t fight back when they’re kidnapped. A sort of subconscious conditioning that they are less likely to get hurt if they go along with whoever.

I won’t go into it individually but in general they’re more jaded I suppose? They had to deal with a lot growing up and now and they’ve sort of fallen into the realm of apathetic acceptance. And they are indeed more violent, not only from Draxum but they litrally grew up watching their three parental figures get into full blown battles all their life, plus their mama runs a fighting ring. To them violence is normalised and they don’t know what regular tolerances for that look like. Combine that with the fact they are spoiled rich kids who can get bailed out of consequences?

Draxum does care for them, in an also less than ideal way. He’s kinda like those parents who live vicariously through their kids, combined with an overzealous soccer mom.

In order of who has committed the most crimes

Mikey - mostly arson some aggravated(and non aggravated) assault, vandalism

Donnie - Purple Dragons member, cybercrimes, lots of theft

Leo - has made it his goal to portal to different places and violate benign laws, breaking and entering, public disturbances

Raph - Usually a victim of wrong place at the wrong time but has caused his fair share of property damage

Usually when the kids are with him Splinter insists they live normal human lives. He gave up on constantly trying to get them to school but he still encourages things like clubs and just generally hanging out being teens(all part of his being raised by the Hamato clan trauma). But for the kids it can often feel like getting shooed out of the house by their father during the little time they have together(and you know Splinter isn’t going to ACTUALLY communicate with them)

6.Have the boys ever been on the set with splinter (human form or otherwise)? Donnie specifically strikes me (and a lot of the fandom) as a theatre kid, and maybe it'd provide some bonding time?

All of the kids have been on set with him before. Being surrounded by people and security was one of Splinter's best ways to keep the other parents at bay. It was always in human form though as they all have cloaking broaches. So it was pretty common for one of the kids to step in for minor roles they needed children for. The only ones that have done big roles are Leo and Donnie. Donnie loves all the rehearsals and acting but hates the busy sets and bright lights. They have managed to get him in a voice acting gig a few times and he thrives in that. Leo’s definitely all in on the attention and grandeur of showbiz. However Mikey is trying to pump the break on any of them going down that path to avoid the child star pipeline(they already have enough trauma messing them up)

7.Does Hueso know about all the drama between the three parents? Like does Leo rant to him about it?

“Pepino I am not your therapist, if you are going to rant at least help wash dishes,”

Leo absolutely does. Hueso can roll his eyes all he likes but he ultimately encourages the behaviour. He is painfully aware that his restaurant is this kids one safe space. Also it is useful having constant tabs on the hidden cites two biggest crime bosses.

8.Do they all use their same weapons as in cannon? Do they use weapons at all? Do they use different ones, or a variety of them? does Leo need to use swords to make portals? I've noticed that instead of swinging a sword around, he appears to just use his hands to create portals.

Draxum would try to make them diversify and practise with a range of things but ultimately they prefer their mystic weapons like in the show. However they don’t use or carry them around much, preferring their mystic abilities. None of them actually need weapons to access their mystic powers. They’ve been practising the mystic arts since they were little and now it comes second nature to them. If they need their weapons, Leo can either portal them, or they can create some out of their own energy. It’s just not worth carrying around weapons when an overnight bag is far more useful to have on person.

To expand on that it’s worth it to say they’re powerful but not that powerful. Combat isn’t a focus of this au; it's all about the family drama. They definitely picked up more skills from their parents than their canonsselves did. But it’s not to the point they could take out any obstacles with ease.

Alright fam- consider (this might sound like a Mikey request at first but its actually supposed to be for Leo lmao) Male reader(who is preferably a spider yokai but if not that's cool too) After the boys realize that Mikey would be a mystic warrior they were set on getting him a tutor, after all, he would need guidance to learn without hurting himself! And so begins their search, of course, they considered Draxum but not only was he brutal and intimidating, but he was also just not very understanding of Mikey's lack of knowledge on mystic stuff. They search and it seems hopeless for a while, any tutor was either an old gruff that was just unpleasant to be around or just not understanding enough of the boys that didn't grow up in the hidden city and barely had experience beyond their specific powers. That was until Leo met this guy (reader)! (maybe at a party or something) they got to talking and became pretty close friends! When they realized that Reader was the exact person they needed (young enough to not be too out of touch, stern enough to keep Mikey going and not just goof off too much, yet chill enough to not be intimidating and most importantly very mystically knowledgable and talented) they started setting up some stuff. The first time reader came into the layer was a bit nerve-wracking but over time things got more comfortable and they ended up even coming over to hang out, reader became closer to all of the turtles, but of course ended up spending the most time with Mikey and Leo, because one was their student and the other their close friend. But at some point, with Mikey needing more lessons because he was advancing so fast Leo kinda felt ignored- which put a strain on Reader and Leo's friendship (and blooming potential QPR) until they sit down with him asking what up and you know the whole jealousy spiel followed by fluff bla bla bla and it works out for all of them!

Okay, meeting you was a stroke of luck that the turtle brothers never thought they would need

Recently, Mikey made the decision to become a Mystic Warrior, he always has wanted to help people, and with his newly discovered abilities, that mission would be a hell of a lot easier.

But after a few training sessions with Draxum and various other Mystic Warriors, they (especially Mikey) felt distraught, all of the mystic warriors they received training from were old, aggressive and didn't understand the fact that Mikey didn't understand their teachings because of one simple fact.

He wasn't born in the Hidden city and didn't even know of its existence until he was a teen.

They all assumed he would know the History of Mystic Magic, the History of the Hidden City and Yokai-kind

But he didn't

And that pissed them off, badly.

The Turtles met you through Draxum, you used to be his apprentice as a young child before he went on the mutagen craze

Draxum told them that maybe you would be the best option, as you were the youngest Mystic Warrior trainer currently.

They were skeptical, to be honest.

However, after a few training sessions with Mikey, he would come home to the lair gushing about how nice and understanding you were

This piqued his brother's curiosity, his three brothers asked if they could tag along and see their brother in training.

Leo saw you and instantly after you were done with Mikey, he went "omg they're really cool wtf??"

After a couple months, you grew a close friendship with Mikeys brothers, especially Leonardo, he reminded you of when you were in your teen years, Snarky, rebellious, and very emotional, no matter how hard he tried to hide and ignore it.

Once you become friends with all four of them, you end up coming over to the lair, which was nerve-wracking for them

Due to never really hanging out with anyone other than their dad, April, Sunita, Cassandra (later on), and Casey (Also later on) they kind of were wary, even if they see you as a close friend

It's just instinct after the Kraang invasion and years of fighting Humans, Yokai AND Mutants.

Be patient.

After a few times of visiting the Lair, they calm down and even go out of their way to invite you over for events such as game night, the Lair games, Pizza night, etc

after a few weeks of this, you finally exchange phone numbers with Mikey's Brothers.

Leo texts you every day, often spending hours texting him or calling him once you were done training warriors.

You started to look forward to seeing him, often showing more excitement at seeing him that Michelangelo.

Leo also felt similarly, often spending hours talking about you to his brothers (which drives them fucking insane, even Mikey)

Donnie ends up snapping at Leo

"WHY do you keep going ON and ON about them?! WE GET IT, HE'S COOL" he barked out, immediately regretting it as soon as Leo's expression shifted

"*sigh*,,, I'm sorry, Leo, it's just, you've been talking about them for DAYS, do you love them or somethin??"

"As a really close friend, yeah, but not like, a Boyfriend" Leo answered, unsure about what he was saying

Donnie stayed quiet before Leo started speaking again

"I wanna be with them, but not romantically, if that... makes sense?" he mumbled, confused with his emotions

"I would suggest looking up a QPR." Donnie said bluntly

"a wuh" Leo looked at his brother as if the Softshell was speaking an ancient language

Donnie groaned "a QPR, Queer Platonic Relationship, It's like,,, I don't know how to put it, you have a phone, look it up"

Leo slinked off, typing into his phone the words "What is a QPR and how does it work"

A few weeks later, Mikey has already advanced so much that he needs more lessons, more than his hour long two times a week he was on

So, you stopped hanging out with the other turtles as much due to having to spend two hours per session, four times a week with their little brother

Leo, ever the drama queen, was NOT happy, he had finally accepted his,,, platonic crush for you, and now he can't be around you as much!!

After a week or two of you being too busy to hang out with him, he snapped a bit

Rushing over to your apartment in the Hidden City, knocking on the door like a madman until you opened

"LEO IT'S TWO IN THE MORNING, WHAT THE FUCK" You hissed tiredly

"I missed you..." he whined, you sighed and opened the door wider so he could come in

He sat down on your couch as you made tea, fumbling anxiously

Once you had the two cups of tea, you walked into the living room, sitting down beside him.

"What's wrong, I know you missed me, Leo, and I missed you too, but you haven't done this before, are you okay?" you asked softly, setting the tea down on the coffee table, right in front of him.

He shook his head, tears pricking his eyes, making you feel guilty

You decided that the best way to make him feel better was to hug him, you wrapped your arms around him and pulled him close to you

He stayed motionless for a few seconds before hugging you back

After a while he finally works up enough courage to ask, "have you ever heard of a QPR before?" it was quiet, you could barely hear it to be honest

"Yeah, I have, how come you bring this up?" you asked, trying your best to be a comforting rock for the emotional turtle

Once you were done asking, he nuzzled into your neck a little, embarrassed.

It hit you, "Awh, sweetie, did you want to enter one with me?" you chuckled once you felt him nod

You rubbed the back of his head, after a few strokes he started churring, you had a big goofy grin on you

You two had a talk for a few hours over the rules of your new relationship and what you two wanted out of it.

It felt great for you both to finally get everything off your chests

It takes a few weeks before he comes out to his family

Who all took it gracefully, accepting you as part of the family, romantic or platonic, if he saw you the way he did, you're like the son Splinter never had. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Heartbreaking thought if Draxum ever looked back and regretted how he raised the twins and apologized to them would either be able to accept it?

Like would two just get more angry like you made us this why and now it’s a bad thing?

Would it make one spiral internally about not being good enough and like would he see it as Draxum considering them failures?

I think One and Two’s reactions would be switched tbh.

The twins have spent practically their whole lives trying to please Draxum and make him proud, so the fact that Drax’s apologizing for that makes One think that everything that’s happened— everything he did up until that moment was all for nothing. Also, he'd be angry at Draxum for re-thinking his decisions and trying to make up for it AFTER everything’s already gone to shit. Like, “you’re apologizing NOW? It’s a little late for that, don’t you think?” Like the damage has already been done and it’s your fault. It'd be really hard for him to accept that apology and it'd probably take him longer to come around 'cause he can hold one hell of a grudge (you threw me off a roof moment x10).

As for Two, he'd definitely experience a sort of spiral. If Draxum just walked up to him and told him that his entire upbringing was basically a mistake he'd interpret it as him calling THEM mistakes. The funny (sad) thing is that Draxum has/will already [spoiler] before, so I'm not entirely sure how Two would respond to this behavior from him . It is possible he'd go down the spiral of "will we never be good enough", but overall circle around the idea of everything just being wrong, which could lead him to feel generally useless and out of place. I think the apology would also make him uncomfortable. Draxum didn't apologize to them, it wasn't how they operated. So yeah, a lot of weird mixed feelings. I think this transition from Draxum would set two on edge and maybe set off a sort of existential crisis, if that makes sense. Maybe even help to distance Two from the family, since Draxum's apology would basically tell him that his entire sense of self (or lack thereof) is incorrect.

they're yokai. mutants didn't exist beyond the turtles until after mystic mayhem. clem is also clearly a yokai, seeing as he has a cloaking brooch.

ok, not bashing you or anything in this post i was in the process of gathering lines and rewatching scenes from the (out of order) episodes i made my siblings watch and this ask is the perfect time to present my wacky thought process but first things first before we get started!

muants did exist before mystic mayhem........*points to the mutant turtles*. also there would have been experiments before the brothers because you dont have a "finally it worked, my greatest moment" if you didnt experiment for the best final result. draxum also had been working on improving his mutagen/working back up to the mutagen that made the boys after his lab was destroyed.

and! clem did not have a cloaking brooch or one obvious to the eye. here are the confirmed clocking brooches in the show, sunita's and big mama's staff's:

both of which I believe need some sort of activating motion. now clem simply transforms head down:

now this doesn't prove anything except that clem can transform back and forth between his human and non-human form. big mama can transform into a human due to her innate powers, but we can't say if thats whats going on with clem because some of the mutants have powers themselves.

and this is where things get confusing. when warren comes into shop this happens:

WARREN "Uh, an anonymous source told me this is where you get some... enhancements."

CLEM "Huh?"

WARREN "Mutant enhancements. Mystical mu—"

a source told him where to get enhancements for someone in his predicament pointing towards an established community for mutants. i dont believe something that coherent would have been established between mystic mayhem and newsworthy. more on whether or not theres a community of mutants later in this post.

warren uses the word mutants, clem does not remark on this. if he was a yokai and this was his first encounter with a mutant, i think he would have remarked on the word usage. (unless the mutant community has help from yokai, which if anyone has anything on that i would love it)

warren additionally follows immediately up by explicitly called the mutant enhancements as mystical enhancements. now this could mean again, mutants mixing with yokai, but im leaning towards "enhancements so good youd call them mystical"?? im actually not sure with this one because i dont know what episodes came before this because again, paramount plus has these episodes out of order

so this is confusing because this is so ambiguous it can be read so many different ways. clems a mutant and hired by yokai. clems a yokai that helps mutants. everything in there is stolen. everything there is made for mutants. actually its a yokai store, but yay mutant customers! who knows!

ok now onto the next thing i noticed: repo

i think repos a recently mutated guy, but not recent as in a couple days or weeks after mystic mayhem, but more like months.

reason why i think he's recently mutated is mikey's line here:

MIKEY: Dude, you better hide.  There’s a human guy around here. 

Mikey here is clearly referencing back when repo was a human. donnie likely frequents dumps like repo's but maybe not so often they hear rumors about specific dumps, or they cycle through a couple.

Repo's reaction to them also isnt "omg another mutant like me!" although i dont think that would have been in his personality to do so. still, he seems pretty used to seeing other mutants and he has successfully adapted to his new body and made it work for his business. his customers clearly dont mind or definitely know because theres a scene where he trying repoing some old lady's oxygen.

further more, when asked if the boys can do anything for Repo, he immediately knows a frustrating mutant, and has opinions on his personality:

REPO:I need you to get an RV [holds up pamphlet with picture of the RV]  from a real shady mutant.

this implies a long history (possibly two years total, where Todd could have been mutated/been mutated) where Repo was trying to get his RV and Todd had been using his niceness powers

ADDITIONALLY CAUSE I JUST REMEMBERED

there was a screenshot of a yokai bulletin board or something and several mutants were on there? does anyone know what episode was on there? that could prove a yokai mutant communities connection and make or break everything in this post asdfsdf

Q. In get babied idiots what happens if they never age back up? And Q. Do you HC the same gender/sexuality for the turtles in every fic you write?

Honestly it would depend on what point in the story they stopped aging. Say that no matter how many spells to get they back to normal are tried, none of them have any effect beyond the one that's already happened. (This is different from my plan, where they will age up by degrees.) Now Mikey is the older of his brothers by about a decade, with no chance of them recovering memories from previous ages.

For the sake of simplicity, I'm gonna say that after a few spells Draxum said 'fuck it i'll just raise them myself now'. The most obvious issue with this plan (besides delaying the whole ending the world thing by at least a decade) is, frankly, Mikey. Keeping him around is too risky. So Draxum gets rid of him somehow, maybe wiping a chunk of his memory and dumping him back in the human world/the Hidden City if he's feeling generous, or he just straight up kills him.

That leaves his brothers to be raised by Draxum, and Mikey either dead, lost, kidnapped again by someone else, or (possible but unlikely) returned to Splinter with no knowledge of what happened to his brothers.

For starters, they would grow up to be substantially different people than they are in canon. Draxum is not going to lose his turtles again, and from the start he would train them to trust on and rely on them. Draxum is the center of their world, their leader if not their parent, and this time he trains them to be exactly who he wanted them to be from the start. Warriors, killing machines, whatever you call it. They might have a vague sense that there's something missing, but that's easily dealt with by telling them that there used to be another turtle, but he's dead now. (And maybe that's not even a lie.)

Now, depending on how grimdark I would want this to be, maybe losing his sons was too much for Splinter and April is the only one left by the time Draxum starts his war in earnest. Maybe Mikey survives, and meets his brothers a decade in the future, so like what he last knew them as but so, so different. Maybe to take this story in a completely different direction, Splinter rescues all his kids and manages to call in a favor from Big Mama to get them restored, but then owes her big time.

Honestly, if they never aged back up there would probably be a lot of angst as Mikey and/or the rest of the family grapples with effectively losing the Raph, Donnie, and Leo that they knew. Their life experiences made them who they are, and growing up again would change that. There would be a lot of themes of identity/identity loss, grieving who you thought someone would be, learning how to love someone who's been changed substantially, that sort of thing.

Also if it ended up with Draxum raising the turtles as his own for several years, there would be a lot of rough emotions if/when they found out the truth (namely, that they'd had family members he took them away from and also lied to them most of their lives). It would probably end up a little like DOTH, but they would have no chance of getting their memories back even if they wanted to.

As for gender/sexuality, I'll be honest they're all kinda television static to me. They're teens who live in a sewer, they don't need to have jack shit figured out just yet. Plenty of people don't figure themselves out until way later in life.

(The one exception is Future!Raph in I'm Not Dead Yet, who is aroace, but also doesn't figure that out until several years of living in the past, so mid-thirties at least. He went from the sewers to living in the apocalypse, he didn't have time to figure out attraction.)

now that we’ve all been thoroughly blasted by the Rise movie I can take another stab at being more thoughtful in designing Venus for Rise. 

first, a refresher:

just gonna go full AU divergence, let whoever Big Mama’s Assistant be whoever (after thinking it over, it does sorta seem to more likely it’s Jennika), still gonna keep her start as an initiate, acolyte-adjacent, monk-ish kid running around in the Hidden City, ward to the crow yokai who adopted her as a foundling. 

We never saw who Draxum’s bodyguard was, they were alluded to during a crew discussion only (unless I missed a design reveal somewhere). in the same vein that me and a bunch of others I’ve seen that think Assistant is Jennika based... pretty much on those claws at the end of her hands, then the bodyguard could be mostly likely be Venus. i’m basing that theory on the very very VERY scant information we have from the show, 1) Draxum is adept at the mystic arts from magical item manipulation to summoning to.... I dunno, what do you call it when he set up the memory dive into Splinter’s mind? he can draw magic circles and operate them as seen when he had to move the boys to another memory.

2) dude wears Venus’ signature cyan post-team switch, can’t scream foreshadowing louder than that

3) Draxum straight up opens a portal to another plane to let the Hamatos go in and snatch up sword!Karai, original Venus taught the boys how to dreamwalk and guided them through a dream plane, ehh? ehhhhhh? *eyebrow waggle*

4) to me, the most record scratch, eyebrow quirking part: he uses armored bees just as Venus did in the original Next Mutation show. Venus’ armored bees and Draxum’s both were used to ensnare and trap opponents. though to concede, Venus’ exploded into a sticky goo, Draxum’s apparently auto-dug into the ground and sprouted as vines

the trip up for me in designing is what exactly “Draxum’s bodyguard” means. the first time I thought about it I had imagined as Draxum taking a younger Venus under his wing, teaching her (give or take realizing she was one of his anti-humanity soldier experiments), becoming his protege of sorts, prrrobably committed to his cause, becoming adept enough in both her mystic and physical prowess and takes it upon herself to protect him.. just real wuxia tropey about it.

but like... Draxum’s cool with hiring muscle, re: Garm and Freki so why wouldn’t he also just hire a bodyguard. it would make more sense this way but it depends on some characterization I’m shaky on for Draxum. he believed in his cause enough to go to Optimus, Arcee and Megatron (I forgot what those giant head characters were called only that their VAs voiced those transformers sry kids) for support. after that, I thought that maybe he’d be a little more discerning about who he recruits to bolster his plans which would be a little more lenient to my original idea.

How do you think Rise Don would act if mystical powers were kinda forced on him? Like he was so resistant to a mystical weapon (which I found surprising though understand with his characterization). If he just kept like...exploding out mysticism he *had* to acknowledge to control, how do you think that would go? (Feel free to take this as a prompt or just a thought experiment.)

I'm honestly not sure how to answer this one, anon 8|a I've been thinking about it for days. Largely I'm not sure what you mean by 'acknowledging' it in order to control it. Because on the surface, Donnie believes in facts and evidence and that means he'd acknowledge it just fine, grapple with fine tuning his control, and then just start using his mysticism much earlier than canon. He'd have a blast. Case closed.

But if you mean more than that, like he needs to know how to manipulate mystic energy, or he can't control it because it's too potent/too much/he's spent too much time trying to resist it and now it's kind of exploded out of him, that's different.

I think... if something happened and he started manifesting power suddenly, powerfully, it really depends very much on the timing in the setting. I'd imagine it would take some kind of extreme stress as a catalyst so he's already not going to be in the right mind set to deal with it.

Any time before Shredder, any drawing of mystical power on his part has been purely accidental and he's mostly relying on his tech, so sudden mystic power would be met with bewilderment, fear of the unknown (it's Donnie why is this happening he didn't predict this), maybe a little relief (guarded, kind of annoyed because he still very much prefers tech) that maybe he can connect with the mystical after all and that means that feeling of not being able to keep up with his brothers is no longer an issue. But then he can't control it. And Donnie likes control. And Donnie insists on control and would fight tooth and nail to gain it, stubborn and sure he can do this, but he's coming at it from entirely the wrong kind of angle because of his mindset and so... things just go pear-shaped super quick. That's a gauntlet of emotion that's maybe a minute long before he starts scrabbling for control and can't get it. And from there you could go in multiple directions:

He was probably already working with ways to dampen mystic/magical power to deal with problems like Draxum, maybe he'd use it on himself. Or maybe he'd accidentally, in the midst of scrabbling for control, manifest a kind of restraint on his own power and accidentally lock his access to the power away for good. Whoops, put a mystic lock on his own mysticism. Thaaat would lead to its own issues.

His brothers would try to help, but none of them really think about how to control their weapons or whatever, they simply do not know enough. Mikey's the closest to being able to help here, the most intuitive. Donnie's power is going haywire, none of them can fix it, Mikey does his best to maybe try and channel it safely/dampen it down from pure instinct with mixed success. Donnie's manifestations are both a danger to himself and the environment, given how they manifest later in the show, so no control is extremely bad. Donnie starts suffering ill effects a la Mikey in the movie, they panic and go to someone they know who might be able to help. Early in the series, that's Big Mama or Draxum. I'd lean more towards Draxum, given he's their creator so surely he knows about this stuff, right? But early in the series, he's not exactly inclined to help them out of the goodness of his own heart.

Either option leads to an interesting plot. But that's early in the series.

(Post Shredder, well, he's activated his Ninpo and is perfectly comfortable with the idea. So it would be an excess of power he couldn't control for whatever reason-- maybe he accidentally tapped into a mystic conduit oorrrr accidentally upgraded himself with alien technology or is just having issues post Technodrome in general-- in this case it's a bit more straightforward because I think Donnie would fetch up on Draxum's doorstep much earlier and Draxum would probably just teach him in tandem with Mikey and, in fact, any or all of them, because it's high time. But that's a story I won't get into now, largely because one of these options is already going into something I'm writing anyway. If you've read NRFTW, you can probably guess which one.)

So yeah, this question is rife with far too many possibilities and dependent on time frames for me, but here's some general thoughts on it. I'd love to hear if anyone has a different take!

and i'm assuming you're referring to my rise genshin au? which i actually don't...have a story for at all, since i don't have a very good understanding of genshin's story/lore to begin with. this au is in all honesty pretty surface-level, at least on my end 😅

Random ideas for the genshin tottmnt au my brain thought of without my concent:

Draxum is a yokai who lived through the cataclysm and knows about Ei making puppet vessel things. Maybe its because he met scara before he turned all fatui. Either way, he knows and bcs of this he wanted to try experimenting creating something similar with artificial yokai to be super soldiers to protect imazuma >:D It never actually worked though because he doesnt know that Ei used khaenriah technology to do that, and he doesnt have access to that. Eventually he cracks the code somehow after hundreds of years of research. And thats how the turts were born >:D

And then since he knows scara is a puppet he found out he became a harbinger. As he looks down at the four artificially made turtles and remembered how Scaramouche once told him about how his mother and creator, Ei, betrayed him because he wasnt fit for his purpose of holding the gnosis, Drax decides this is probably not a good idea. Also he feels a bit guilty because like albedo, they’re like artificial yokai. Artificial, but still yokai. Knowing that Lou Jitsou is someone who travels often, he dumps the children onto him so he doesnt have to worry about them destroying inazuma. That or he found out the khaenriahn orginins of puppet people, and since he experienced the cataclysm thinks theyre too dangerous and then dumps them on splinter. Use this idea however u want :D

What if...?

Donatello is an avid collector of data. Knowledge is power after all.

But sometimes, things are left better unknown.

He would be remiss to say he hasn’t stumbled upon something upsetting before. The internet is a wealth of knowledge but also maze of misinformation, distractions (ah, Wikipedia rabbit holes (it’s a love hate relationship)), and full of every form of violence you could name, physical, mental, emotional, psychological…

How could this piece of knowledge feel like all that at once?

He sits crouched on the floor papers strewn about on the ground, barely lit by the screen of his computer, heels of his palms pressed to his eyes, as if that could erase the information he just read from existence.

Ah, how ignorance was bliss.

He wants to claw his scales off, scream his throat raw, bash his head against the floor, wall, whatever surface might wipe the information from his brain. His heart beat shakes his whole body as he holds himself still, air shaking through his lungs, and trembles. He doesn’t care to keep track of the time he’s been sitting here like this. He wants to wake up and let it all be a dream and go away.

But Spirits, its awful in how much it makes sense and answers questions he’s had since the invasion. He hisses another breath out through clenched teeth to stifle a scream. He wasn’t even looking for answers to those questions when he found this. He should have just…

He feels nauseous, and takes a shuddering inhale. It feels like such a violation, such a reminder of their creation, unnatural, mutant, intended use. He feels so

His hands slam to the floor as he has to catch his balance, tipping to the side, catching himself on one of his shoulders instead just barely stopping his head from smacking the floor. Eyes squeezed tightly closed, he can’t bear to look at the papers again. He shivers and shudders. Maybe he will be sick.

He doesn’t want to be, he wants some form of control over himself. He still feels dizzy and decides to lay curled on the floor. Focus on the cool temperature of the tiles absorbing the heat from his scales. Fingers the seam between the tiles, the texture of the grout. Something else, something else…

He doesn’t hear his lab door open. He does feel the fingers brushing his shoulder.

He wants to cry and doesn’t all at once. He strains to focus, attempts to acknowledge the presence, struggles through another shuddering inhale and flinches at a more insistent touch. He pulls away, away, he know it’s one of his brothers but, the thoughts and knowledge he just discovered warp his perception. He hates it. He Hates it.

He fights it, grasps out, grabs, and clings. Finds his words and hisses.

“I’m going to kill Draxum.”

 “Woah, woah. Not that I plan on stopping you, but…”

Leo, its Leo, just Leo. Don’t let words on a page warp your experience, your own data, your own knowledge. He’s still talking, focus.

“…and Mikey will be inconsolable watching all his hard work go down the drain, or wherever or whatever you plan to do with the body but, I’m going to need a motive here so I can get the blame off me when people bring up the whole, ‘He threw me off a roof’ thing.”

Donnie let’s out stuttering snort of air and curls more to press his forehead against Leo’s knee where he sits cross legged in front of him, and pulls the captured hand into both of his own against his chest. Leo shifts his weight to rest his elbows on his knees.

“What did you get into?”

He just knows, he just, Donnie grinds his forehead against Leo’s knee, having lost his words again. He can’t bring himself to say it, he just, it’s awful.

“We gonna play 20 questions then?”

Donnie loves his brother. He nods.

There’s a heavy sigh, not exasperated but, more concerned.

“Ok, first things first, are you hurt?”

No, physical he is unharmed, as much as it feels like something is twisting up his insides, he is physically unharmed.

He shakes his head, but Leo clearly picks up on something. He’s silent for a moment, maybe mulling over Donnie’s pause, maybe thinking of his next question. Donnie squeezes the hand captured in his grip and Leo squeezes back before beginning to mutter out loud.

“Something to do with Draxum… You an’ Mikey went to go help him grab stuff from his old lab earlier this week. Did he do something?”

Yes, and No. Donnie only found out being a snoop, his hunger for knowledge, the data was right there, how could he stop himself? And it was information about them, they had a right to it didn’t they? He didn’t bother to ask; he was sure he wouldn’t get the answer he wanted. He might as well get something out of helping Draxum move. It wasn’t like he was completely in the dark with their creation, but he likes to know details, he had been getting into biology recently. Foolish, ignorant, dum-dum, fool he was.

His lack of response went on too long.

“Not the right question but in the right realm, huh?” Leo starts tapping out a rhythm with his free hand. “Did he say something? Lead you down a research rabbit hole into the horrors of the abyss?”

The last bit is said with a curl of amusement and understanding from previous research binges. He’d clearly seen the papers scattered on the desk and floor. Not read them though luckily.

Curiosity killed the cat and all that, or curiosity gave the turtle nightmares, whichever.

He shakes his head. Draxum practically made a point of avoiding him and only indulging in Mikey’s need for their… interaction or whatever, when he really had to. Draxum was well aware of Donatello’s opinion on him and was making no effort to improve it. Donatello was unintentionally making his opinion worse and now felt justified in his own lack of attempt at improving their relationship with his recent discovery.

“Ok, so he didn’t say anything, but may or may not have done something…” he snaps his fingers, “Did he not do something?”

He almost laughs because of his previous thoughts on Draxum’s lack of improving their ‘interpersonal relationships’ or whatever Mikey liked to call it. Draxum left them uninformed of important information, and also hadn’t been there to help during or after the invasion (not entirely his fault with the lock down) but still. He made no effort to reach out after, or help them when he did find out what happened. But that’s not, that’s not the issue here entirely. He’d be perfectly happy if he never saw Draxum again.

He shakes his head. He’s starting to feel a little more grounded and lets his eyes open, there’s no papers in sight, just his and his brothers hands, odd three fingered things (normal turtles have five, so do humans). He snaps his mind away from a train of thought and back to Leo’s voice.

“Ok, so he did do Something, I just need to be more specific.” He lets Donnie turn his palm over in his hands as he decides on the next question. “Did he do something to Mikey? No, that wouldn’t make any sense, he would say something wouldn’t he? Go all Dr.Delicate touch on him. If not tell us.”

He looks down at Donnie who nods minutely but keeps his eyes on Leo’s hand, and then slowly looks up at him with a pointed stare.

“Mikey doesn’t know.” There’s a touch of fear in that statement but also a hell of a lot of anger. His hands curl into fists and he looks away for a brief moment, probably towards wherever Mikey might be in the lair. Donnie tightens his grip, and stares at Leo trying to will words to his lips. He catches his attention at least, and stares, willing him to read his mind however he normally does. (Twin telepathy he would probably laugh, if asked) Scoff.

“You too.” Leo realizes, then his brows scrunch, “but you know, and you implied Draxum had, but hadn’t done anything…” He trails off trying to tie things together but his thoughts seem to wander off.

“All of us?”

Donnie does his best not to crush Leo’s hand and suddenly finds himself struggling again.

“Okay, okay, okay, deep breaths, come on.”

He doesn’t want them to know, he realizes. He really, really, doesn’t want them to know. He’s cursed himself with the knowledge and it hurts, and telling them might help him a little, but it will hurt them more won’t it? And Raph, oh Raph. But the questions it would answer. Such a can of

He looses it, scratching, scrabbling, against the tile, scales, his shell, his Shell. Curling and gasping for breath to scream, to cry, to, to

“Hey, Hey!”

Leo is pulling Donnie’s hands away and pulls him into a hug as best he can. And no, just no. He struggles and pulls and gasps and whines.

“I can’t, I can’t, Ican’t, Ica-“

Leo lets go, there’s a swish and flash of blue light, then a blanket is tossed over him with a *fwump*

He shudders, but the darkness is a bliss on his mind. Maybe a Pavlovian response to the blanket at this point. A good shut down, reset. Slowly he calms, almost drifting off. He’s tired.

Leo is patient and waits, as long as it takes.

There’s a muffled rustling of papers being picked up off the floor that draws his attention with a quick snap and he finds himself moving, smacking the pages from his brothers hands.

They both stand there stunned for a moment as the pages flutter back to the floor. The blanket slumps off his shell to join them.

“You don’t want to know, you really don’t want to know.” He gasps out.

Leo stares, then looks down at Donnie’s shaking hands.

“It’s bad.”

He makes a noise, an ‘eh’ of neither confirmation nor denial. “Horrific?”

Leo gapes at him, “Wh-How is that not BAD?!”

“It just IS.”

“Wh-H-no.” Leo rests on hand on his brow eyes closed and waves away the unfinished questions with the other, as he tries to re-focus.

“Is whatever it is going to hurt us?”

“I don’t know! I don’t think so? I..I-” Donnie trails of with a slight terrified giggle “I think, I think it helped us..? Ah ha a tiny bit?”

He holds his fingers a little bit apart but they’re practically touching, his face twitches with a hysteric smile. Leo stares at him again. Donnie’s shaking starts to intensify again, it’s a miracle he’s still standing. Leo spots the desk chair tipped on the ground, picks it up and encourages Donnie to sit in it.

“Ok.” There’s a pause, “Draxum did Something.”

“Yep.”

“That is Horrifying.”

“Very.”

“Ve-“ Leo presses his hands to his face for a moment takes a breath and lets them drop.

“To all of us.”

“Mhm.”

“And we don’t want to know.”

“Oh, definitely not. I already regret telling you the little that you now know. As a matter of fact, next time we see Hypno I just might ask for a total mind wipe. That is how much we don’t want to know.” Donnie rambles.

“But it may have helped us?”

Donnie hisses out a breath, scrunches his eyes closed, balls his hands against his forehead, and curls up in the chair. He leans forward so it doesn’t touch his shell.

“I reaaaaalllly don’t want to think about that.” He rasps.

“Because its, Horrifying.” Leo states.

Donnie swallows and nods.

“And worth killing Draxum over.”

“Yeah, I mean, if anything had gone wrong he could have potentially been the cause for an apoc-ahhahhahaHa! I’m not saying aaaanything else.”

Leo will put his thoughts on that sentence elsewhere for now, he will come back to them later.

“Alright, ok. And as far as you are aware, whatever it is, won’t hurt us?”

“As far as I’m aware. Pretty sure at this point the most its done is cause me psychological damage, Haha... Seriously, I would pay for Hypno to wipe this from my mind.”

“So, what’s the plan with the papers then? Hypno wipes your mind, you find the papers and freak out again, we gotta get rid of them right?” He reaches down to pick one up again, maybe trying to get a look at what it is.

Donnie smacks it out of his hand and hums nervously. “There is some important information there I’d like to have, I just don’t, really- that one part is. Upsetting.”

“Ok, so we find that page and toss it. Problem solved, easy peasy.”

“But there’s other things I need on the page. And it could still be important.”

Leo huffs a sigh, “Alright, without the bad parts, what are these papers? And why do you have them?”

Donnie lets out a sigh of his own, “They’re Draxums notes on what went into the creation of our mutagen. Notes about us. Other things…” He waves a hand. “I grabbed them from Draxums lab while helping him move of course. Not like he needs them anymore right?”

“He better not.” Leo hums under his breath threateningly, louder he says, “So what about blacking out the most upsetting part if the rest is important? Sharpie over it or something?”

“But what if I need to know.”

Leo gives him a look, and huffs out a noise, “Then you can ask Draxum right? Well as long as we don’t kill him first.” He laughs, then frowns.

“This sounds really important, are you sure we shouldn’t know?”

“Absolutely, we’ve already all got PTSD- don’t deny it-” He aggressively points a finger at Leo, “We won’t need to add this on top.”

“Sooooo, is this related to the invasion…?” Leo says it jokingly expecting an ‘of course not’ in response and is horrified by

“I didn’t say that!”

Leo freezes.

Donnie is a terrible liar, but he makes up for it by using other methods that work, sometimes. Leo knows these methods and Donnie spoke with far too much emphasis in that sentence.

“This thing… helped us, in the invasion, didn’t it?”

Donnie hisses into his hands, fighting himself.

“You want to know? Like really want to know?”

“Yes, Don. If this is important…”

“You see how I’m reacting to this.” He holds up his trembling hands, mostly adrenaline now.

Leo huffs a breath, “We’re supposed to help each other out, let me help you share the burden.”

“It doesn’t work like that! It’s knowledge not!-not! Nnngh,” Donnie’s hands grasp at the air, “Not some task!”

“Well what do you want me to do?”

Donnie stares at the ground at a loss. “I don’t… I don’t know.”

“I just…”

He toes at a page.

Then crouches down, sifts through the papers and picks one out. Turns it face down before lifting it and placing it on the desk.

He taps it once, sighs and rubs a shaking hand down his face.

“You want to open Pandora’s Box? Well, there it is.”

He refuses to look at Leo as he curls up in the chair again.

“Just, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

 Leo watches the chair slowly spin away from him as he turns to look at the page on the desk. What could be on it that so upset the genius? They knew Draxum was a little unhinged with his whole ‘take over the surface’ plans, but what could have gone into their creation that would be so horrific? He hesitates.

Then slowly flips the page.

And reads.

 When Donnie hears Leo drop, he begins to laugh.

And then finally screams.

 A drawing on the page next to a paragraph depicts skeletal remains found in the Crying Titan.

Regarding the last ask my interpretation of two and he and one’s very umm messy dynamic is that I don’t think two really would want to understand that one loves him. Like there’s huge messy mistakes and hurts caused by both side that make it hard for either one or two to understand love in general let alone acknowledge it.

But.

But. How I’m perceiving two in how he’s been presented to us is that even if it (one loving him) could be pointed out to him in a way he understands I think he’d refuse to acknowledge it because atm he holds so much resentment and bitterness and hate* towards one that having it pointed out that one loves him would not be something he could handled because then it would be like forcing him to realize the hurt he’s causing someone who loves him and it would force him to grapple with the fact that the feelings he holds for someone that loves him are not necessarily good or healthy and that in turn would probably make him feel flawed and like the monster the hidden city believes him to be and I don’t think he could handle those feelings and so he just…wouldn’t. He’d deny any evidence of one’s love solely so he didn’t have to deal with what it means and his own messy complicated feelings

(* when I say hate i don’t mean two hates one we know he loves him back but I mean like there is hate and it does get projected on one a little maybe but it’s more hate about the lack of respect and lack of equality and hatred of the situation and ranks and how one enforces it just as strongly as Draxum like I could see two saying he hates one but it’s misplaced it’s not actually hatred of his brother it’s more hatred of the messed up dynamic they have and since that was set up by Draxum it’s easier and safer to blame one then it would be the commander)

The flip side is I have a lot of thoughts about one on this too because he’s is obviously not like without his own set of issues and mistakes that he brings to the dysfunctional relationship between them but the ask was more about two so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ that’s my take on how twos being written so far and I could be way off so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong!

Ok so i really think you’re onto something. Two doesn’t understand that One loves him not because he hasn’t noticed but because he doesn’t know what it is. For Two, everything he and One do is a product of their mission and purpose as Draxum’s experiments. That’s his understanding and just generally how he sees his life, including his relationship with One. Here’s where it gets tricky. I know in the ask you’re referring to i said Two doesn’t understand that One loves him, and that’s true on a technical sense. I think on some level Two understands that One cares about him because Two cares about One too. As much hostility and mistrust as there is between them, theyre still very close. That relationship is just tainted by a lot of bitterness, so much so that I think Two has lost that feeling of caring and trust that they used to have as children, pre-rank. But he hasnt forgotten about it entirely. Its why one does what he does snd probably part of why two’s so angry all the time.

I love your thoughts on Two reacting to this all being spelled out to it bc, like I said, he doesnt’ actively recognize where One’s motives are coming from, since hes blinded by his anger rank and desperation/commitment to draxum’s mission. If he was told One loves him, itd probably come as a surprise. He wasn’t aware that could even HAPPEN. Two barely remembers behaving like a child and being so carefree, likely assumed that One shed the empty “brother” and “family” mindset like he had, and “woke up,” so to speak. But I actually think that realizing that would just make him angrier. How could One “love” him but still treat him as an inferior? He’d probably think of it as pathetic and weak and just an excuse or maybe simply dismiss it as not true. Underneath that, though, he’d probably panic a bit (fueling his anger), and yea maybe wondering why they’re so different, which honestly could either make him feel insecure or more isolated from One. But that side of it probably comes out in season 2 :)

Two and One’s relationship is super messy and it absolutely infuriates Two most of the time. I really loved hearing your thoughts they made me think a lot about Two’s internal feelings and thoughts :)

oh boy, rewatching Rise with 1-2 episodes a day is giving me a new perspective on the whole show (I'm talking mostly about character development, plot, pacing, etc.)

disclaimer: this is NOT meant to discourage anyone from watching the show, nor is it meant to attack anyone who enjoys the points i criticize. these are merely my opinions and i respect anyone who thinks differently from me. 

read more because i'm incapable of keeping my thoughts short:

first off, when i first started watching Rise, i was completely smitten by the show. the first few episodes that aired before the rest of the show started playing on tv, i watched religiously. it was my favorite tmnt iteration for a LONG time and i still hold it near and dear to my heart. 

but it was not perfect. nothing is, really. 

Donnie - i’ve reblogged and mentioned how i didn’t appreciate how the writers handled Donnie’s development in Rise. Again, if you’re a Donnie fan, i can still see why - he’s a fun character. To me it just got old watching him run in circles.

Mikey - i had so many thoughts on my boy so i put it in a separate post - TL;DR Mikey didn’t have much development himself, the episodes he supposedly does were problems that got introduced and solved in the same episode, and Mikey acts as more of a hype-man/therapist and feels more like a background character than a main character. I might be biased cuz he’s my favorite, idc. he deserves more spotlight.

Draxum - season 1, he’s great. It’s season 2 that fell short with me. Not all the post-redemption episodes bugged me, he still feels largely in-character in mystery meat and the finale. I think it was hidden city’s most wanted that really… seemed off to me. Maybe it was the fact he was a teddy bear, idk, but him using Mikey as leverage against Splinter irked me. Draxum and Lou/Splinter had hardly any interaction in goyles, goyles, goyles so their “rivalry” felt really forced. i could see Splinter hating Big Mama since their relationship (was implied to have) lasted WAY longer. Draxum kidnapped and experimented on Lou in the same day and they'd barely met. idk, it felt rushed.

Season Two - i don’t blame the writers for this, i blame nickelodeon for cutting the series short so we didn’t get to experience the series in its rightful glory. but even leading up to the finale, it feels like there’s so many gaps missing in how characters and their dynamics change.

unbalanced focus - related to some of the previous points, but there really does seem to be a lot more episodes revolving around Donnie and Leo more than Raph and Mikey. i get why Leo and Don are fan favorites since they get so much more screen time than the other two, but Raph and Mikey had so much potential that just got shrugged off. Especially Mikey (don't @ me, he deserves better)

yes, the show got cut short. It’s still easily one of my favorites (especially season 1) but there were so many episodes that felt like there was a gap (like characters developed off-screen). I know the writers were pressed for time but season 2 just didn’t quite hit the same. Some of the episodes are still amazing/my favorites, but there’s a couple that really bugged me.

but my biggest complaint is still directed at nickelodeon/viacom for pulling the plug before giving the show a chance. most of these points would probably have been addressed or fixed if we'd gotten the full season 2 the writers had planned for.
