I was wondering, is the thing where Arden picks up a bunch of random hobbies and commitments a part of his ADHD or does it have like a name?

I’m a highschool student and I get told by all my friends and teachers that I have overcommitment issues and part of it’s just for uni and whatever ofc but it’s also that I want to do ALL THESE THINGS

Like I’m in 4 different science competition teams, the school debating team, school orchestra, scholarship classes, editor of my school newsletter, I lead the school amnesty and unicef clubs plus the IB program and being in the national maths Olympiad team lol and I don’t want to let any of these go but it’s so stressful and I’m so tired and ppl say I have to say no to stuff which is also stressful!

Also, doing more is always portrayed as such a great thing and I feel rlly guilty letting stuff go? So I’m just reaching out because you portrayed it in such a refreshing way and I was really curious!

Firstly, massive respect for your ability to fit this ask into the Tumblr ask limits. Seriously :D

Okay secondly, Arden’s habit of picking up a bunch of random hobbies / commitments is part of his ADHD. People with ADHD have this to different degrees, and my beta in particular relates really hard to this habit of Arden’s.

But actually, one of the reasons I put this in is because this is a very bad habit of mine - which is overcommitting, and overworking. And not wanting to let anything go.

People teach you a lot of skills in your life on how to pick things up, but almost no one teaches you what to do when you have many hobbies you love, and they’re hurting you because you’re working too hard and don’t have time for your loved ones (or to even really have loved ones) as an example. And it absolutely is a crucial skill to learn for people who are dealing with this, though capitalists don’t want you to learn it.

In the media what I see is most folks having no hobbies and someone being ‘oh you have to learn some.’ I liked Arden as a contrast to that ‘no, that’s too many things, put some back.’ Where Arden’s ADHD manifests - though it’s much more controlled than it used to be - is that he desires to spend a lot of money on the thing as soon as he gets into it (because he only wants the best of the best - which wasn’t great when he wasn’t earning much money), and that he starts really hooking into it in an obsessive kind of way. Spending a night making bows for your dog is one thing. Then wanting to spend $500 and start an Etsy store small business is like...from one day of work, not great.

A lot of Arden’s life has involved choosing to let go of things he’s loved doing, for his own sanity. This is something I’ve had to do as well and I fucking hate it, and these are the techniques I’ve developed for myself (and my still frankly overcommitted ass, who has people saying ‘when are you going to do LESS’ all the time to my face).

* Remind yourself that dropping some things now doesn’t mean you’re dropping them forever. It doesn’t have to be permanent. Sometimes it’s good to put a time limit on something. ‘I’m going to drop this for four weeks / four months and put a note/reminder in my phone about it right now.’ Chances are high you are not going to be as interested in that thing in four weeks/four months. (Chances are sadly also high you may have replaced it with something else). Like, there will be science groups you can join for the rest of your life. And debate groups. And newsletters.

(That being said, none of those things count towards our grades in Australia? So I don’t know how much these things are counting towards your grades in general and I’m not going to like, touch that side of things - however overcommitment is a super fast way to do a lot of things not that well, or to suddenly get so sick you can’t do any of the things and then feel terrible while you’re sick, more on that later!).

* Time caps on certain hobbies and activities and commitments. This is to actually shoot my habit of hyperfocusing in the foot. I don’t have time to play piano for four hours, but I’m allowed to play it for ten minutes a day (sometimes more but not often). And ten minutes a day adds up over time. I literally sit down and put the timer on my phone. If say there’s something that meets up twice a week but some people only go once, be one of those people!

* Rate the things based on how they contribute to your a) career and b) quality of life and c) happiness. Anything that rates lower on the list compared to the others (that isn’t like, literal money-making work or literal classes) needs to be dropped.

* Dropping things is just actually one of the hardest parts and there’s no real trick to making this easier. I just remind myself: ‘Just because I can do this thing, and do this thing well, doesn’t mean it’s good or healthy for me to do this thing. I need to spend time with people I care about, and I need rest, and those things matter more even if they feel less like ‘accomplishments.’ I want to care for myself through my hobbies, not punish myself.’ That goes some way in keeping perspective, but look, ngl, it sucks to drop commitments if you have an accomplishment/achievement/job satisfaction addiction. It just sucks.

* Accept that you are going to feel guilty, and that guilt is just an emotion, and it doesn’t mean you’ve done something bad. Look sometimes guilt gets it wrong! Sometimes you feel crushingly guilty just for breaking a bad habit, it’s not useful, you just have to kind of be like ‘huh I’m feeling a lot of guilt for trying to look after myself, that’s really interesting, I guess I can understand that but I’m also going to try and praise myself for doing a great job. Just because this isn’t an obvious kind of achievement, I know I achieved something really big and difficult today.’

* Oh yeah, use achievement and ‘job’ type language for doing things that involve successfully taking care of yourself and your energy levels. Just...sometimes you have to ‘if you can’t beat them join them’ - chances are you’ve never been as kind to yourself or proud of yourself for resting and taking it easy and seeing friends, than you are for taking on too many commitments. So...challenge yourself to be kind to yourself and proud of yourself for resting and taking it easy and seeing friends and committing to less. Trust me, you are never going to forget how to overcommit, and you are never going to become lazy or lax because you dropped a few of the (billion) things that you’re committed to. You can afford to praise yourself for this! And generously!

* Seriously, seriously consider seeing doctors or psychologists about this. Despite a TON of PTSD, I actually see my therapist most for working too hard and overcommitting. We spend a lot of time talking about why I might not be the worst person in the world for taking a break. Take it seriously. Your list alone made me feel like I was about to have a panic attack, lmao, your friends and teachers are right, you have overcomittment issues.

* Workaholicism and work addiction is real. There is a growing amount of information about how to deal with it and it’s worth googling.

Er anyway that’s what I do. It doesn’t always work. I have a lot of rules in place and I abandon half of them about halfway through the year and then s u f f e r. And have been doing that for over 25 years and I’m going to say bluntly now - it’s why I’m as sick as I am, and some of that sickness is irreversible. If nothing else, if you want to stay as active as you are now, I do not recommend that anyone push themselves so hard that they can no longer even do things that they enjoy on a regular basis, because they’re too physically debilitated to manage it, because they pushed their bodies too hard during the university years and just after. Because that is 100% why I became so sick in the first place.

And even extremely healthy people who have no history of chronic illness often develop something, in conjunction with years and years of working too hard or overcommitting. I’ve seen it happen to far too many of my friends, and you might feel like ‘just another six months’ or ‘just another three years’ but you’d be surprised how quickly you can go from ‘I’m doing it I’m doing it’ to ‘I keep getting migraines all the time doctor how do I fix this so I can go back to working as hard as I was before’ and your doctor being like ‘...yeah this isn’t curable. I’m going to give you some meds, that all come with horrible side effects, and you simply can’t do what you were doing before.’ Game over.

Trust me, that shit catches up with your body always. It might not be now, and I hope frankly it’s never, but overcommitment and workaholicism are the two fastest ways I know to chronic illness and once you get there, you can’t work your way out of it again.

Though god knows I have tried.

Modern AU (Adult!)Arcobaleno on socials media though. While Flames and mafia are definitely still a thing.

Now I’m by no means well acquainted to all the different popular socials media, but here’s my humble take:

Reborn on Instagram.

He only has pictures of Leon first and foremost, with him in the background in one of his ridiculous but very well-made cosplay. Leon of course also wears the same cosplay as him.

He never shows his full face in any of the pictures, but just enough his followers know he’s handsome as fuck.

The artists/photoshoppers among them regularly put the pieces together to see how he could look like, but in a funny-and-obviously-purposefully-wrong way only.

Reborn loves them and saves them all.

Once in a blue moon he does post a picture of himself where you can see him clearly all dressed up and fancy, and then immediately deletes it.

But only after he’s sure it has been seen, so he can watch his followers lose their shit while drinking a nice espresso.

They try hard, but so far none of them managed to save any of the pictures before he deletes them.

Often there’s what suspiciously looks like blood stains on their clothes and straight up dead bodies lying in the background, but Reborn went so passive-aggressive with the few who dared to ask, everyone is too afraid to ask now.

Anyone who badmouths Leon in any way is instantly blocked. But only after Reborn ripped them a new one AND let his followers do it too.

He creates a public group with only him as member that’s basically his scientific diary.

It’s not really to invite intellectual challenging debates (though he’d be all for it if someone smart enough showed up), but he figures it’s in his best interest to make the world a less dumb place if he can.

It finds his public, though there’s only a few comments because god forbid you say something dumb or inaccurate and Verde fucking annihilates you in the comment section.

But like, in a teacher way. Like he’s genuinely trying to make you know better but he’s just ruthless at it lmao.

Verde uses a fake name and a fake everything so there’s quickly a running joke along the lines of “Imagine if it’s really the genius scientist Verde running the group and you just outed yourself as a flat earther lol”.

But what gets the group really popular is the in depth flames theory involving weather of all things they have to assume he came up with it all on his own because they can’t figure out to save their lives what the hell he’s talking about?

And it makes them question their sanity sometimes because Verde talks about it like it’s the most obvious thing and in the context of just about every basic aspects of life.

Cue the conspirators and their hot new take of “the aliens were among us all along and hid themselves as the WEATHER!!!” that instantly turns into the new popular meme.

That, and the transcripts posts of Verde trying his theories that nine out of ten apparently involves very unwilling participants whose life are threatened and sometimes they straight up DIE???

They think both of these is just him fucking with them and it’s all fictional. They want to think it is anyway.

They’re not so sure, but everyone is too afraid to ask.

70% of his content is about Lal because this man is so in love and it’s like he’s a guest on his own account lol.

There’s the “Pining Hard” content where it’s just him trying to seduce Lal, to romance her and asking her out, and Lal brushing all of it off more often than not.

His followers are very invested in this “old bickering married couple type of best friends in oblivious mutual pining” real live action slow burn fic, and cheers him hard whenever Lal reciprocates the tiniest bit.

They don’t know the two are already together.

They think Lal brushing him off or flirting back but in an unmistakably joking/”platonic” way is just her being oblivious and not taking Colonnello seriously.

When she would just rather flirt back off camera because it’s her private life thank you very much.

Colonnello never tells them because he assumes they all know and just choose to be in on the joke.

Lal finds it hilarious whenever she goes through his Snapchat (with his permission of course) to find numerous messages of encouragement, so she never says either.

Otherwise it’s just him living his life and letting them in on what happens.

They play videos games too, thinking they’re being very good while being very average to not say they straight up suck asdfghj.

Mother Nature was a cruel, unforgiving force. She could make the earth tremble with her mighty earthquakes, she could make volcanos erupt and swallow up entire cities, and she could make it pour just when you got your Starbucks order. The latter you were most familiar with.

With a heavy sigh, you closed the door to the dorms behind you, dripping a puddle of rainwater on the floor below. At least the cups of coffee were somewhat saved by your body and your jacket, but you on the other hand? You could take a shower right now and come out dryer than you did going in.

Oh well. Your boyfriend could probably provide you with a few towels, and your beverage could warm you back up.

As you started moseying on up the stairs, you felt a single raindrop trickle down your neck into your shirt, making you shudder. Now that your body was getting used to the warmth of the dorm complex, you started noticing how icy cold the rain actually was. You reached Jay’s room pretty quickly and knocked on the door shakily, trying to ignore the icky sensation of your clothes sticking to your skin. Hopefully this wouldn’t develop into a cold.

It took Jay a while to open the door. You were almost afraid he wasn’t home, or worse, finally getting some damn rest. You didn’t exactly tell him you were coming by. But soon enough you heard the door creak open, and Jay’s tired eyes peered through the small opening.

“... (Y/n)? Wait, hold on- What happened to you?” You couldn’t help but snort as he opened the door for you completely and scurried over to his bathroom to get you a towel. “Nothing. C’mon, it’s just rain. I got you cof- holy shit, Jay.”

You knew Jay tended to get stressier and messier as soon as midterms started approaching, but you’d never seen his apartment in its current state. Come to think of it, it was maybe because he usually managed to make you avoid his apartment around exam week.

There were about three trees worth of paper sprawled over the floor, whether they were crumpled up pages ripped from notebooks, exercise sheets or books. His sheets were messy, there was dirty laundry everywhere... It was like a mad bull had rampaged through his room.

“I would’ve cleaned if you told me you were coming over.” he muttered, turning away to hide his (presumably) embarrassed expression from you. He probably would’ve just kicked his belongings under the bed, anyways. Jay didn’t like to make you worry, even if it was just stress over midterms, but you knew him better than that.

“Alrighty. You know what I’m gonna ask, right?” Your hand unceremoniously shoved a bunch of papers aside, making place for the coffees. Jay didn’t need to be asked to know what you meant. “I last showered yesterday, I swear, it’s not that bad.” Lifting your eyebrows at him, you crossed your arms over your chest. “When the three options are last meal, last sleep and last shower, it’s usually not a good sign for the other two when you start with your last shower.”

Jay sighed through his nose, biting his lip. It was like your eyes pierced through his mind, right into his soul sometimes. It was almost uncanny.

“Last meal was yesterday too.” Both your heads instinctively turned to the plastic bag from a local Chinese restaurant you both liked to get takeout from sitting in the hallway. You assumed there were still leftovers in the fridge, but he didn’t get to having any today.

“Jay...” A sigh escaped you as you started walking towards him. “I know...” You didn’t even bother to ask him about his sleeping schedule. Judging from the purple crescents beneath his eyes, he had not been getting much sleep at all.

“I would tell you why it’s important to eat and sleep well before exams, again, but you already know. But the first thing we are going to do is stop thinking about whatever you got coming up, okay?” you hummed, vaguely gesturing to the pile of books on his desk. “Then, we are going to lay down and do nothing. You need a break.” “But I can’t just-” “Shush. I’m gonna get changed, you’re gonna get comfy. No buts.”

Jay just stood there for a moment, mentally debating on what action to take as he watched you help yourself to a dry sweater from his closet. His mind was protesting, yelling at him to continue. He was halfway done with chapter 14; he couldn’t just stop halfway! That was like, an unspoken rule, right? That, and he hadn’t been able to concentrate in the slightest yesterday. That meant he’d already spent his free day being unable to focus, he couldn’t have an intentional day off after a fruitless day like that!

But his heart told him something else. As much as his mind would scold and berate him, the little jump his heart made when he saw you, humming as you took off your shirt, your bare back turned towards him, hair still wet and sticking to your forehead... That little jump spoke more words than any self-deprecating lecture he could ever throw at himself.

And so, with a heavy sigh and a rub to his eyes, he gave in to your demands and kicked off his socks. Damn you and your persuasion skills.

“C’mere, you. You look like a lost child at Walmart.” Jay was snapped out of his dazed state when he felt your hand on his chest, giving him a firm push and making him fall backwards onto his bed. You’d apparently picked out an old gray sweater from a college debate team he wasn’t even a member of, and a pair of black, fluffy sweatpants you’d bought together last month. Typical. He should’ve figured you had the intention of wearing it when you picked it out for him.

Jay huffed playfully, watching you crawl onto the bed next to him. “Is this your idea of a relaxing time? Shoving me around and playfighting like a child?” “Yes.” You stuck your tongue out at him, making Jay snort. You really reminded him of a child sometimes.

Crawling back so your back was resting against the headboard, you patted your legs. Jay did not need to be told to know what you wanted, and by God, did he want it more than he realized. Slowly, he shuffled his way over to you, pressing a small peck to your lips before moving to rest his head in your lap.

Your fingers wasted no time diving into his messy, soft locks. Slowly, they started rubbing gentle circles on his scalp, earning you a sigh of relief. You couldn’t help but chuckle, leaning forward to press a kiss against his temple. “Feels good, baby?” you muttered, to which Jay just gently squeezed your leg. He didn’t want to talk anymore.

You combed your digits through his hair one by one, tracing circular patterns and drawing little shapes. Jay hummed or sighed occasionally, but he didn’t utter a word, keeping his eyes closed. With every stroke he felt his stress be brushed out of his mind, your mere touch enough to make his worries melt away. And with that, he had to admit to himself that you were right, again. He did need this break.

And so, you laid there cuddling for hours, your gentle touches lulling him to sleep as his thumb traced tiny shapes on your thigh. Jay had propped himself up, his head now resting on your shoulder. Some 3 am realizations about life, relationships and maybe more?? idk whatever have fun.

Ok before i start on this shit I am going to say it is 3 am and i am just dumping some thoughts like i usually do. Sorry for the shit grammar, disorganized thoughts and all that jazz... In a sense i feel like this is a letter to myself and what i have been trying so damn hard to understand so yeah i am talking to myself and to this website. I think. Idk. i will probably delete this in the morning when i am back on bad bitch mode and go back to posting memes pero por ahora vamos a ver como nos va. Mayb ei will leave it up bc i forget or because i dont care who sees it. sorry for the shitshow of a post you are about to read but you probably already kinda know me so yay! ok tumblr it is 3 in the morning and i have 100% regressed into being a 15 years old on this damn website shitposting and reblogging some corny ass posts but it feels right, so here i am attempting to process it through the only form i know how to actually know how to cope with things. I mean memes are cool and all but lets be real, they don’t address the problems. this is the one place i can brain dump all of my thoughts and not really care about where they go because they will eventually disappear in the tumblr algorithm.

My old blog was often the only separation I had between my reality and the life i really wished i had, but now I have that life that I always wanted so why the hell am i back at square one? To be fair, the life that i have right now may not be envied by many but its a pretty darn good life to me. Im safe 99.9% of the time. The other .1% is a story for another day. I have been trying to figure out for months as to why i’m back to being so active on here and now that it’s 3:00am I realize it’s because of self isolation (thanks corona!).

Let me start off by saying this; my reality is not something I am going to be able to escape. Ever. It has brought me to where i am today, allowed me to meet some really incredible people and i am so so grateful. I have learned so much in the past few years. i am grateful what happened happened. Wild, i know. I escaped it physically but i cannot escape it mentally, at least for now. School, work, writing, dealing with my freshmen’s problems was what kept my brain occupied and away from having to face the part of my life that I really just want to forget. To be fait my trauma response has taken pretty good care of fucking up my memory and all of those fun things but ironically the things i want to forget about so badly are the things i think about every single day without skipping a beat. brains are weird like that.

I am ok now but sometimes i forget and fall back into my new reality. That is ok. People that know my story ask me why i don’t write about it on a public platform because it’s inspiring?? or hopeful?? or whatever cliche people want to use when addressing a topic that makes them uncomfortable and they want to feel better about the life they live. 21 year old latina girl faces adversity and lives the american dream (barely)..i mean, i did run a whole ass magazine and wrote a piece for graduation including some details of my story but that was like the rated g version with only the little sad parts that people are able to handle without feeling like their comfort zone is being violated. MEdia is a wonderful place isnt it??? so i get where they are coming from, but what they dont understand is that an international platform is not where i can share any of these thoughts... Listen, I know this is cryptic and confusing and you are probably really curious about what the hell happened to me but i don’t feel safe to type it out on international platforms with public access. I don’t know if i ever will... Yeah i can talk to people i trust about it because i am in control of the space and the situation and who is obtaining that information but you never really know with the internet.

maybe in the future i’ll write a book on it. even then i will probably use my alias make it a YA fiction with an added love story that ends in a happy ending. Maybe one day one of the school girl crushes I have will turn into that YA story and i dont have to make any of it up.

If i am honest...this blog is the only safe place i will probably ever have where he wont find me. He can find my school and my address and phone number and work and everything in between because that is just the way things work. Yeah yeah i get it stop posting shit on social media that is how he finds you whatever. What people dont understand is that I cant stop living my life again. I already started so i cant go back to giving him that power. It makes no sense. Also, his family is too confused by all of the ups and downs of the last year that they dont really know where i am going or what i am doing. So anyways, long story short - That’s why i am back on here, because it has become the same written safe haven I had when i was 15 and tried to escape my physical reality. Only difference is that i am trying to manage the mental reality of it all...

I also have so many questions about what to do next. Like i mentioned in another post, i didnt think i would make it to 21 but i did. I didnt think this far ahead so i guess i will just figure it out along the way but hear me out. How do i face a new reality that no one can relate to. At least not the people around me. How do i make friends and know when the “right time” is to tell them hey btw if this happens lmk lol. Even more importantly (because it relates to my future as world famous YA novelist.. lol sure grace...) How do I even date someone??? many questions are tied to that. like... I know theyre going to ask. “what happened?” “who is it?” “how can i help?” “Isnt there something we can do?”. i am more than willing to answer these questions because fuck, if im dating someone i would be curious too.. but do i even answer those questions. How do i know they are ready to handle that kind of information? how can i guarantee theyre not going to leave. How can i know that they arent going to be frightened by what has happened. how do i know they are not going to think differently of me. How do i explain to this person “yeah i have stress nightmares about what happened and when i wake up i think i am back in that situation and not where i live and i have to remind myself i am in a whole different area code but then its fine lol so if we share a bed at any point in time dont be alarmed if i wake up in a panic.” or how do i explain to them when something triggers me and all i can do is freeze because maybe it is him. Maybe he finally found me. but then i am back to reality and move on with my day because that is the only thing left to do. I cant throw myself a shitty pity party thats generic as fuck and i dont have time for it but whatever. moving on. next question. How do i know theyre not gonna walk away because they have the misconception so many people have?? Just because i went through some shit doesnt mean i am unstable or unloveable or whatever bs people think. This isnt going to go away. This shit is a aprt of me but it doesn not define me. it is not who i am.I dont have the option to make it go away but people have the option to pick up their things and go. seems unfair to me sometimes. It seems unfair to generalize people like that. I am always open to a new relationship but people expect me to be sitting at home scared to go out into the world and live my life. I have a life to live and i am so ready to explore it by myself or with someone by my side but quarantine has brought me back on here to deal with the fact that i am back to being stuck inside. Mentally and physically. One sucks less than the other.

I have so many other questions but i am feeling tired again and its almost 4am so maybe i should go to bed. Y’all dont know how happy i am to have this trash site to vent to in the middle of the night. theres some relly judgy people on here but at least i know my feed wont judge me or try to fix what has happened. it will just listen.

Anyways, i doubt anyone will read this because this post got long as fuck but if you did i give you a high five and a virtual hug for getting through the clusterfuck of sentences. Thanks tumblr. If i ever go viral again on this shitshow of a website i may have to bring back my studyblr and go underground lmfao jk maybe. I cant wait to hug my friends and the people i have met that have become a part of my daily routine (yes even during social isolation, get off my ass I am still socially isolating). All i can do for now is wait for someone who cares about me for me and isn’t scared of my past or the pieces of it that linger in my present. I deserve nothing less. if they cant do that they are not worth my time and i hope they drop their keys every single time they go to open their front door. oh... they also better be ready for the hours i spend typing away my thoughts on my computer. Maybe one day they will be allowed to read them too... lol maybe not. whatever who knows. Peace out kiddos stay healthy xoxo.

Or to put it better, your social studies lesson was horrible. Everything was going well, you had put on your favourite outfit, you had managed to eat something before school and the teacher was strangely fond of your contribution to the class. But then Alexander Hamilton happened. You couldn’t stand him. He was an arrogant loudmouth who could never shut up. But that was not the problem. The things he said weren’t wrong, and sometimes they were even brilliant. But if a single person disagreed, he would start a huge debate, which mostly ended up in blatantly hurting that person. Just like today, where he started a huge fight with Thomas and James, two close friends of you. And as it started to get personal, you intervened, since your teacher, Mr. Washington didn’t even bother to. But as Alexander saw you standing up for you friends and simultaneously his rivals, he completely lost it. "I didn’t think that you completely lack of common sense. But since your siding with these two assbutts, you obviously do. I thought better of you.”

“How dare he?”, you hissed, opening a new tab on your computer. Aching to write someone, you logged into your tumblr account. You knew exactly who you wanted to speak with. Your favourite tumblr-user, @ratherbedivisethanindecisive . Half a year ago, you had fallen in love with his writing and his personality. He was unbelievably eloquent, and not only did you enjoy his passionate opinion on politics, but also his beautifully written poems and letters. At first you were hesitant, only reblogging and liking his posts. But then you grew eager to talk to the writer that had captivated you with sentences. And it was one of your best decisions. The two of you talked daily, and soon he started asking for your opinion on whatever he was writing and took to heart what you said. But you also talked about, school, about your family, everything you could think of. He would always listen. In the last weeks, you found out you both were living in the same city, and decided to meet one day. That day was today. But not right now. Taking a quick look at the time, you assured yourself that you still had time before meeting him, and hoped he was still online.

You continued to chat with him for a while, and discussed what you should do if Alexander would dare to insult you or your friends again, and wow, Al had some great ideas that were worth trying out. You once again wondered how someone so eloquent could also have such a creative, violent way of roasting people. The time flew by, which you barely noticed, but he then suggested, that the both of you should get going. You agreed, but also asked him how you would know that it’s him, since you had never seen a picture, and he stated that he was wearing a green sweatshirt. After you shut down the computer, you absently stared at the wall for a bit. You were so curious to finally meet the writer that had won your heart just through his elegant words. But then, you also wondered how he would react to seeing you. Maybe he expected more than you were. Taking a look into the mirror, you swiftly shook your head. Al would like you, or at least you should hope that. Filled with determination, you hurried through your apartment and put on your favourite shoes. Should you bring a jacket? Probably, but as soon as you grabbed your keys, you had already forgotten about it.

The ride with the subway was more nerve wracking than you thought. Your heart began to race higher and higher with every minute, and your hands were ice cold because of the excitement growing inside of you. Shifting around in your seat, you impatiently waited for the station you could get off. Al decided that he wanted to meet you in a park, which wasn’t surprising, coming from a writer this romantic. Not that your relationship with him was romantic, it was strictly platonic. Which shouldn’t bug you that much, considering you had never met him in real life. But it did. Only a little bit, but it was a noticeable little bit. By the time you had exited the subway, you felt your knees weaken and could only grin. “Pull yourself together!”, you scolded yourself quietly, and took a few breaths, before making your way too the fountain, where the two of you would meet. The weather was more unpleasant than you first thought. Even though the sun shone, cold gusts of wind rushed around you, making you tremble a bit. But the scenery was beautiful regardless. The grass beneath your feet was tinted in a luscious green, just as the leaves in the treetops above you.

As you arrived at the fountain, the excitement in you died down immediately, as you saw one of your classmates. Alexander Hamilton. He seemed to be waiting for someone, and he looked surprisingly happy. Which was not amusing for you at all. “What are you doing here?”, you asked in an annoyed tone, as your eyes met. “I’m meeting someone”, he explained briefly, adding a small “you?” at the end. Grimacing, you answered:“ Yeah, me too.” He acknowledge your answer with a small nod, and ended the conversation with that. You suddenly had the urge to test one of the few insults out, that Al had given you, but the suppressed the wish, and instead endured the awkward silence between you and him.

A few minutes passed, and you had started to glimpse at your phone every other second, to check, if he had written something. He had not. Was he going to come? Did he maybe just joke, and never intended to come? You couldn’t believe that. Al had become such a closed friend to you. Engrossed in your thoughts, your eyes wandered over to Alexander, who was also checking on his phone. You observed him further, till it hit you.

A green sweater peaked out under his jacket. Long, black hair. Dark eyes. Not very tall. “Al?!” you shouted in disbelief, and Alexander winced at the sudden volume. As he turned to you, the expression on his face was just as shocked as yours, he was speechless. For the first time you interacted with him, he was speechless. But you didn’t care. All you cared about, was, that he just ruined everything. Al stood for Alexander. You could’ve known. You should’ve known. By realizing that the amazing writer you always praised and loved was Alexander, an immense fury built up inside you, together with a sharp pain in your chest. You felt your eyes watering, but refused to cry. Not in front of him.

Not a single would be shed by you, as long as he could see it. Instead, you started to growl at him:“ You dick! You’ve ruined everything! I had one thing I loved! One person, that I thought liked me!” Taking a short break, you took a deep breath, your displeased face was red by now. “But no! It wasn’t! And now I’m the stupid one for thinking somebody could’ve liked me”, you added and felt a lump building up inside your throat. A moment of silence. Alexander gazed inexplicably at you. With a hoarse voice, you concluded:“ Maybe you were right. I might completely lack common sense.” A bitter smile formed on your lips, and you avoided Alexander eyes. Suddenly, he began to speak in a soft, quiet voice.

“Be happy, and let friendship between us be more than just a name.” You widened your eyes at his words. He quoted of his latest works, a letter, that he had written personally for you.“ I meant them. I’m so sorry for what I have ever said to you, I know that I get too vivacious whenever I speak, and I apologize. If you could forgive me, I would never mistreat you again.”

What he said calmed you down a bit, but it also made you suspicious. Alexander had a way with words, who knew this better than you did. "But you meant what you said. Just because you suddenly know that I was your online friend all along, doesn’t mean you didn’t mean to insult me”, you argued, and he carefully took your hands into his. “I know what I said was wrong. It’s just that I really didn’t get along with Thomas and James, and I got jealous after you sided with them.” You let out a amused giggle. “Jealous? You barely know me.” “You’re my classmate, of course I know you and HOLY shit, your hands are cold? Why didn’t you bring a jacket?!” He realized how cold your fingertips were and started to scold you, while he stripped of his own jacket. Before you could complain or defend yourself, he had already placed the coat around your shoulders. “Can we take a walk like we planned to?”, Alexander asked coyly, and you agreed.

Holding hands, you two made your way around the park, and at first it felt weird. Alexander felt weird, and it was weird to finally have a face to the writer of your dreams. But then it started to be more enjoyable, you got used to him and noticed, that he was actually a very suave and kind person. Soon it didn’t feel like Alexander anymore, but more like your dear friend Al. He talked about how you inspire him to write, and what he had planned for the future. You would laugh and just put him off, but secretly you were only flustered. You asked him if he was inspired by this scenery, and he refused to answer, but a little smirk was placed on his lips as he thought about it.

The time went by, and as you had made fourth round around the park, you came to a stop. “I need to go home now”, you stated and became a bit sad, as you saw Alexanders expression. “We should meet again, he suggested, and you had to agree with him. "We will!”, you promised him and engulfed him in a hug, as the smell of his sweet-smelling fragrance flew towards you. After another minute of talking, you were ready to let him go, but he suddenly grabbed you wrist, pulling you closer towards him. You gave him a questioning look. “Be happy, and let love between us be more than a name.” Your felt your cheeks heat as he slowly lowered his face, asking for permission first before he tenderly kissed you, wrapping his arms around your waist.Alexander had a way with words.

Temporary vehicle registration and insurance in California for uk citizen?

Hi, Myself and a friend will be travelling to California next month to purchase a 1960s vw campervan. We will be driving it to the shipping port to export it back to the uk.
