two things you’re never going to see from me is complaints on the portrayal of konig’s character (or anyone else, really) and “rules” on how to write your COD fanfiction.
idk about y’all but when i write it’s incredibly self indulgent. i write about what i want to write to satisfy my own sexual creative needs and i think y’all should do the same. you’re not gonna see me throw a fit if i don’t agree with your portrayal of a fictional man with 3 pieces of confirmed lore. if i disagree that much i just won’t read it? i’m not going to rain on your parade and tell you that you should stop doing your creative outlet and sharing your stories bc i don’t agree with how you want to write his character or bc you don’t follow canon.
you wanna portray him as a stone cold and ruthless killer who thirsts for the blood of his enemies? as the big soft uwu boy everyone hates so much? you want him to be 20y/o, 45 y/o, 60y/o? mean, kind, confident, anxious, smart, himbo, reserved, persistent, wholesome, a pervert? you want to strip this man of everything you know totally OOC and just borrow his appearance for a coffee shop AU? it’s okay! chances are there’s other people out there who were craving just the thing you’re cooking.
no one is doing this for a living, we’re all writing fanfiction about our imaginary boyfriends in CALL OF DUTY as a hobby. it’s just not that serious. this goes for all creative fandom works, too.
i’m personally very picky about my fanfiction, but who’s silly little problem is that? that’s my silly little problem. i’m here for the grind, the chase, the dig. too weak to handle scrolling back 100 pages on ao3 just to find the perfect strangers to enemies to friends to lovers 100k word porn with plot with accurate character potrayal you were looking for? you might be in the wrong business if you can’t handle the hunt, my friend.
y’all are making free content for us to consume. that’s more than enough, and the priority at all times should be to make sure you’re having fun writing. I’d rather you all share your OOC goofy little fics that you felt motivated and inspired to write than a canon friendly story you had to force yourself to get through for our sake.
anyway i’ll go to bat for fic writers any day of the week. tldr; don’t ever let anyone dictate how you express yourself creatively, give yourself permission to go nuts like a 6 yo old with paste, glitter, and elbow macaroni. free yourself from the weight of the chains of creative stifling and see how close to the sun you can girlboss. let us seethe at the hands of your raw muse.
and as always, thank you for sharing your art with the world.

really, really do not understand why everybody’s so insistent that jason todd would not be a red lantern if he were to get a ring
people making lantern aus will put him in the sinestro corps, in the star sapphires, and now he's got a green ring for some reason, and okay? that’s fine? like i’m not about to gatekeep - you should do whatever you want! but the fact is the dude is, like, textbook red lantern
his entire character arc mirrors that of the red lanterns almost 1:1 - right down to the being killed, brought back in a sort of unconscious state, and needing to be dunked in a magical pool to regain their memories/minds
sometimes the most obvious answer is the right one
#jason todd#hate that i'm being forced to talk about bats on this but i saw the dark crisis writer's tweets and just#??????????#so many misconceptions about the red lanterns and it makes me sad bc they're my favorites! they're so interesting!#but everybody seems to think they're just out of control maniacs who love violence for no reason!#it's disappointing and BORING like they're so complex#but people just see 'rage corps' and their brain shuts off after that#jason's entire thing is being Unavenged and the red lantern corps' entire thing is seeking out people who need vengance#red lanterns are explicitly only drawn to the 'pure' rage that comes from victims#atrocitus straight up says the rage of abusers isn't attractive to the red light at all#red rings ONLY go to those who are pissed for the right reasons#almost all of the red lanterns are victims of some violent crime or the other#most of them were being murdered or worse when the red ring came to them#that's WHY it came to them#they don't just seek out anyone who's pissed enough#they seek out people who are helpless and angry and give them the power to avenge themselves like!#you couldn't pick a better group for him to fall into if you tried!#not that i want it to happen because i'm morally opposed to the idea of bats with rings but still!!#the way every bats-as-lanterns thing i've ever seen bends over backwards to put him anywhere BUT where he obviously should be#baffles me#truly#and again i'm not trying to tell people they're wrong#you can do whatever! have fun!#not trying to rain on anyone's parade#but the star sapphire thing being big for him is just like--#yeah it could work but it would also be some real horror movie shit lol#the star sapphires are far and away the most disturbing of them all imo

I think it’s hilarious just how many abilities/apps Chase has in his roster, mostly ‘cause there’s a lot of them that just leave me wondering why you’d give that to him?
Going through the wiki, it's like almost anything that was needed for plot got thrown onto Chase. And there are a few of them that I think would’ve been better suited for Adam or Bree, considering the skill sets
Imagine if Adam had magnetism instead, and it overlapped with his blastwave ability as an EMP, making the umbrella ability electro-magnetism
Bree’s abilities are about stealth and scouting, so give her the fingerprint and facial recognition to compliment her vocal manipulation
And for things you don’t have to take from Chase, but just give all 3 of them: the senses to a minor degree. Give Bree the hearing for eavesdropping, give Adam the sight for accuracy, while Chase has both at max
‘Cause the thing is, doing this doesn’t devalue Chase at all. His intelligence, and everything that comes with that, makes him immensely valuable to the team
They were designed as a unit of weapons, so I can’t help but think of their abilities divided as such
Adam’s not the muscle, he’s the combatant. Defense and offense are his specialty, and his passives give him the ability to incapacitate at close and long range
Bree isn’t the hustle, she’s the recon. She can get in and out of secure locations undetected with the utmost efficiency and safely bring the intel home
Chase is more than the brains, he’s the support. He can process the gathered information and strategize accordingly. His ability to link with and override his siblings’ bionics can be a game changer in dire situations and makes him versatile
Idk, I just love power dynamics

do you have a favourite portrayal of a character in the gotg game!! who is it and why <3
Oh I think they're all great honestly!!! Part of why I love the game so much is that genuinely, the whole team + supporting characters are written with such obvious love of the source material and equal attention between them all. When I see comments of people saying who their favorite character was from the game and the answer always being different from each person I'm like!! That's how it SHOULD be!!! They're the Guardians of the Galaxy (plural) the focus shouldn't all fall on a singular character like most other GotG media usually ends up as 😭
The two (sorry I can't pick just one) whom I think benefit the most from the game though are Drax and Gamora because they're almost always sidelined both in-and-out of universe by most of the various writers (especially as of late) and in turn the viewers/readers. I've been told plenty of times that they're the most boring members of the "main" team, BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY! The amount of love the game versions get (by the few who've played it at least) proves that 🥺
I've never really liked 616 Drax shifting to being a complete clown during the 90s and such (and even less so when the MCU followed along 💀) So I appreciate the game taking a bit of his seriousness from the DnA run and just making him struggle with nuance and context clues in a less exaggerated way (autistic Drax I still believe in u) and I feel the focus put on him and how losing his original family + the aftermath deeply affected him hits pretty hard here because it's treated very seriously and shown in depth, especially with how his family (wife) gets actual focus. I cannot tell you anything about Yvette in comparison to Hovat, who actually seemed to have had a personality lol (AND she was on their village's council like omg imagine having more to you than just being The Housewife) Though I will say I flip and flop on my thoughts about Heather being disconnected from Drax's life in this universe... The TLDR is that I think his arc here specifically works stronger when he has to come to terms with losing his entire family and accepting the life he currently has with the Guardians. BUT!!! I very much appreciate that Heather is still confirmed to exist within this universe, even if that means her dad issues would have to be dealt with in a different context if we ever get to see her.
Also? Shoutout to the writers actually bringing up the intense paranoia that always kneecapped 616 Drax but having that be a turning point in his backstory here, with that conversation he has with Peter where he talks about how he was becoming so paranoid of everyone being a chitauri/Thanos conspirator to the point of literally turning into an obsessed maniac like Thanos, and realizing that he desperately needed to turn his life around, it's so ough.
Out of the already many great conversations throughout the game, I think the ones with him are the most poignant. My favorite scene in the whole game is Drax and Pete's little moment on Knowhere... makes me go wahhh
(l also love that out of everyone on the team, it's his headspace that we quite literally get to go into. You KNOW that if this was any other media it'd be going into Rocket or Groot's head and likely treated as a joke.)
Tumblr media
And oh my god, Gamora...
I find it so extremely refreshing that her role in the plot doesn't revolve purely around the men in her life, and instead, it's nearly exclusively her connection with other women. Or in the most direct obstacle she has to deal with, being how she starts projecting to the millionth degree on Nikki's situation for reminding her of what happened to her and Nebula. I find that infinitely more fascinating as a reading of her character rather than just dating drama or her arc getting completely overtaken by a man's instead.
And especially in her friendship with Mantis, who, despite having all these futures she's constantly seeing and having to navigate, still makes time to do her best to help her 🥺 From saving her life and being the one who put her on the path to healing on Lamentis, to getting her to join the Guardians and still checking in on her when she's able 😭 Friendship between women can be so powerful... u love to see it (🏳️‍🌈)
I also find it nice that there's this emphasis on her recovering mentally, and the comparison between Thanos essentially teaching her to just Deal with the shit in her life through very simplistic meditation versus the priests of Pama actually teaching her something to help soothe the mind :^( and that she still has moments of relapsing essentially. I find that to be a realistic take on recovery because that's just part of the journey since healing is not linear... and I think it's very sweet that she finds comfort in collecting something ---girly--- like dolls. Love to see a person reclaim a part of their childhood that they weren't allowed to experience. And how she's allowed to make BAD JOKES?? Imagine a woman being written to have multiple dimensions, crazy and absolutely unthinkable, I know.
There's this extremely specific theme in relation to Gamora across media that's been rattling around in my brain since first playing the game. When near the end during the revisit to Knowhere, she's about to completely lose it when Peter tries talking -for- her on what she's so upset about before immediately shooting him down, and she explains what happened between her and Nebula and she starts crying. It really struck me right then that she's never given a moment to cry elsewhere (or in the 616's case, the quite literal inability to.) aside from her shedding a Single Manly Tear (Original Sin) or a single moment out of legit fear (MCU 💀) because she's a hashtag Strong Independant Woman who can't be vulnerable etc etc. But for her to cry in front of the people she's come to care about, It gives her a moment of true vulnerability that I don't think she's allowed ever in most other media.
That and all of the above hits hard and is what makes me genuinely believe that the writers cared about her in the narrative and tried to do right by her when every other bit of media really hasn't nor cared to the majority of the time since the 90s :'^/ Brings a tear to my eye that she's allowed to just... exist in the narrative on her own merits and not on what she can provide to someone else's story.

#lex thoughts#gotg thoughts#universe: eidos game#gotg2008#sorry for asking for a question then immediately disappearing for a month 💔 I'm on the most stressful roadtrip ever#i 🫶 you for asking about them though the Eidos gotg are my everything and i won't shut up about them if given the chance#very funny to me that all these important moments happen on Knowhere. Strange things can happen at the end of the universe.#The end page of W&tIW 09 is the only other Gamora moment of vulnerability across media that i can specifically pinpoint#But it's more self reflection in a way of a heavily traumatic experience that I don't feel ever truly got resolved within the 616 IMO#And I find it a specific point to be made when Gamora is/isn't allowed to feel or literally denied things that are stereotypically-#-categorized as -feminine- (which is dumb to assign gender roles to a simple human emotion such as CRYING.-#-But you get what I mean I hope) We play fast and loose with gender around here pardner I think all of the gotg should cry more#but in Gamora's case specifically it Hits Different knowing her past and treatment throughout media#i could also heavily go into the way the game adapts Peter's character in relation to his element guns but that's an essay for another time#just because -i- find that extremely fascinating doesn't mean i think he should particularly be the main focus (and he isnt)#bc pete rocket and groot are the ones that already get all the attention (even if i dont agree with how they're written elsewhere)#i just find it more engaging for the other two main characters of the team that always get sidelined by the writers actually being put in-#-the spotlight with equal attention given to them for once to be sooo -shakes fist#sorry for the intense word salad i hope i make sense lol ESSAY/RANT OVER .🤐

#ooh I have a lot of thoughts about Six and Charley and her mysteriousness and how he responds to it#but they intersect with my Six's Mental Health Thoughts which are extremely headcanony#and I know a lot of the fandom would rather just kind of wall off Twin Dilemma and assume Six's proper characterization doesn't include it#and I don't know that I blame them for that#but I like trying to make things fit together#and also there's no way to do that without probably misusing real-world mental health terminology#because (watsonian) the doctor is an alien with an alien brain and (doylist) the writers do not know all that much about psychiatry#but. at least for a bit after his regeneration he deals with paranoia right?#like that's the term the narrative uses. (and it clearly explains his attack on peri - he's perceiving her as a threat due to delusion)#& she says 'I'm not letting a manic depressive paranoid personality like you shut me up' & he objects specifically to 'manic depressive'#later in uhhhh revelation of the daleks? he doesn't tell her about a real danger#and he says 'I didn't want to burden you with what might have been a piece of paranoid speculation on my part'#again I cannot emphasize enough how much I am talking about a fictional character with fictional problems. I do not know psychiatry either!#I do not want to mislead#but one of this character's problems is that he has a badly calibrated sense of danger. sometimes he sees things as threatening that aren't#and sometimes he overcompensates for that#and I think when he first meets Charley he is really not very sure whether he should trust the alarm bells he's hearing or not#she seems deeply suspicious! but also nice? he wants to like her? but deeply suspicious!#'or am I just being crazy?' he asks himself#and so he just kind of... keeps watching her#also unrelatedly to all that I think he kind of likes having the excuse of Mystery for doing what he does anyway which is orbiting her#just slightly obsessing over his companion at the time even if he also occasionally forgets they're there#(he's just very all or nothing in everything all the time)#but yeah. you know how 11 gets about Clara and her Mystery Plotline? 6 is like that about every companion in turn anyway#so he doesn't actually mind having the excuse of Mystery with Charley#this is also why 6 and Clara is so compelling#(this was a tag essay in response to lrb but I decided it was opening too many cans of worms and needed its own post)

Tumblr media
Then literally stating that things are coming back in "full circle" and she even pulls her cat hood back on-

AND KING EVEN SAYING "meowmeow" in that same quick consecutive way Luz said it in season 1 I cant-
This show really is ending. They already obviously referenced how they would've had so much more had they been greenlit again and now they're referencing things from season 1....things really have come full circle.
Tumblr media
They even end the episode with the quote "we've got all the time in the world" referencing what Luz said earlier about no time for those 20 adventures. I guess it's sort of like a closure saying like even though were bitter about not getting as much time as we wanted, we'll still finish the show well with the time we have left.

idk how to word this well but i feel like a lot of media critique is read as too personal to the author? obviously the intentions of the creator is important and the circumstances they made the thing in is important to discuss but i feel like that should be like. context. an explanation of why the story is like that but not a way to shut down further discussion.
like for example a lot of critique of tv shows is rebutted with "well the network cancelled it/forced it to keep going beyond its natural end/threw in a bunch of stuff to fuck up the creator's vision so it's not the writer's fault." and like. who was blaming the writers? yes maybe the network fucking with the creative team made the show turn out bad but that doesn't mean the show isn't still bad! it's just that now there's a conversation about network interference and how that affects the final product.
and i think outside factors that affect the story should be discussed!! i think networks are often unfair to its creatives hence why they're striking now. i think censorship is often limiting and prevents writers from telling the stories they want and (tumblr focuses more on this) having good representation. i think the identities of the creators and their beliefs and abilities have massive implications on a story and i think all of it should be discussed as the context the story was made in. i just don't think we should stop the discussion there. we still need to talk about what did and didn't work in the story itself.
when i say "the plot/rep/format of the story had X problem because it affected the story/audience interpretation of the story in X way" and someone says "well the writer's boss forced them to make the plot/rep/format like that," i think it's important to know as a part of media critique. but if they refuse to discuss my initial statement and just ends the discussion there because the problem wasn't caused by the writer, i don't find that interesting or useful to think about.
the only purpose of saying this and only this is to tell me that no, the creative team isn't at fault for this specific thing. i shouldn't get mad at these people that i will likely never meet whose only relationship i have with them is consuming their work. and like. you shouldn't harass people for writing bad stories regardless but if you need to be told that specific creators aren't to blame for a thing you disliked to stop you from doxxing them then that's one purpose of that.
but for that to be the only discussion point is ignoring the actual story. forgive me for assuming but i feel like most people would want to talk about the actual media when they do critique, not the personal/political drama involved in making the media. this is an online discussion about something published by strangers, not a writing workshop with your friends.
and i think talking about the problems that arise in a story because of outside influences can bring more awareness to those influences! if you say "the publisher told them to not make those two gay" and refuse to elaborate people just think "oh :( well i bet a hypothetical book where those two were gay would have been cool :)" if you say "these two have character arcs that would make more sense in X ways if they were gay but because the publisher told them not to make them gay it falls flat in X ways" people would think "holy shit! the publisher's prioritizing their homophobia over telling a good story! i hope next time they have a book like that they'll just let them be gay!"
pointing out exactly how outside influences hurt a story will show audiences not only how these factors fucked over the creatives career-wise, but also their own enjoyment of the story. most people won't affect the way creative teams of media they like are managed, but in the rare instance that they do, "it makes the story worse and therefore less profitable" is a better talking point than just "don't interfere with the writers because it'll make the writers sad."
basically if i point out a problem with a story and you reply "this problem was caused by X external factor," the next sentence should be "and here's how and why X external factor affected the story in these ways." it's shouldn't be "and you shouldn't blame the writers for it because it was someone else's fault." pointing out that capitalism and bigotry exists should not be the end of the conversation. you need to say something its effects on the story in tangible ways. otherwise the conversation has no value.
and i want to reiterate that i know a lot of limitations studios and publishers place on creators are frustrating to the creators themselves. it must feel horrible to see people be dissatisfied with your work, especially if some of the things they critique wasn't your fault. i cannot stress enough how much i dont think less of a creative team's skill unless i know for a fact that they chose to make something bad without any outside influences, which is incredibly rare. if i criticize something, i am not placing blame on anyone unless i outright say "i blame the writer/studio/publisher for this."
when i talk about my thoughts on a story, it's entirely for me. i'm not holding out hope that hollywood executives will see my opinions and tailor-make something for me so i'll stop complaining. i talk about and criticize media i like because it's fun. it's how i engage with media. i don't know the creators of 99% of the things i enjoy, and they will almost definitely never know me. while it's interesting to learn about the production process of a piece of media, even if i don't know who's "responsible" for a part of a story i don't like, i won't get angry at the creators for that. i don't connect the value of the writer to the value of the story in that way.

started Thinking TM about miraculous ladybug again. I can feel it. the desire to hyperfixate on this show is looming over me
#from the writer's den#void talks#maybe!!! just to stave off the waiting for s6!!#I'll do more redesigns#or honestly#I keep meaning to do like#an au with attwdc#bc the thought of it is REALLY tempting to me#and I could probably do it pretty easily (though ml's cast is MUCH bigger than attwdc's)#but just like#thinking about who would suit each miraculous ...#like the EASY answer is that life & death should have the ladybug + black cat miraculouses respectively#but that's not INTERESTING.#the FAR more intriguing thing is to have it be karyn and diana respectively instead#since diana already has the whole parental expectations and burdens thing paralleling adrien#and karyn much like marinette cannot shut her mouth to save her life#and gets Obsessive and Spiteful#obviously triste gets to have the butterfly miraculous. no brainer. emotional manipulation king.#he even has a little dead spouse angst in him#and I think logically then delta could have the peacock as mayura#or maybe zeta?#and then have delta take the role of the previous guardian -- which I think is more interesting than having it be life/death#-- and has the benefit that death could be a miraculous holder (which one... idk)#or or or or or#triste has the fox miraculous#going in his lila era#actually no strike that#I think the best option is probably death has the black cat -- karyn gets the turtle -- diana has the ladybug -- life has the fox#with the idea being that diana is a good pick for ''guarding'' the ladybug miraculous but also has the training for it#while karyn's job is to Keep Her Own Ass Safe. hence shield.

I'm halfway through posting Pulse, and this is the part where I admit I have no idea what I'm doing, I guess.
It's hard to be a creator of any kind, to pour your heart and soul into a thing, that no one really has any reason to care about. Am I good enough? Only the vast universe that is the Internet can tell me that, but like the universe, it does sometimes feel like mostly void.
"I write for myself," I tell myself firmly, as I'm supposed to, if I want to keep feeling good about the time and effort I pour into this. Do I mean it? Sometimes.
"I don't need validation," I say, even less convincingly. Because, after all, I am sending this piece of myself into the void, hoping for a response.
It was never going to be easy, I knew that. There was a part of me that hoped it would be a little easier.
Anyway, I'm still committed to posting the second half, but beyond that? I don't know. This might just be the wrong approach. If there even is a right approach. (Or maybe I'm just not good enough.)
