Is it me or does Alastor look more human (??? Humane???) without his smile? He looks like a character toy can sympathise with more, a character with more vulnerability and, dare I say, weakness.

I'd also like to mention that he's in Charlie's room during this scene, that and his first few lines in "Hell's greatest dad" leads me to believe that yes, he may have overplayed his relationship with Charlie to get under Lucifer's skin and manipulate Charlie, there was also some essence of truth that he would hate to admit to anyone.
