He’d barely been home an hour when he got a call from the Curascantii authorities. Luke idly wondered what could be so dire to the police that they’d not only need a Jedi, but the Grand Jedi Master.
“Hello?”
“I’m sorry to interrupt your day Grand Master Skywalker, but there is an urgent matter that needs you and your wife’s attention.”
Both of them? That was strange. The officer looked nervous as well. He didn’t even need the Force to see their distress.
“could you explain?”
“A teenager crashed into a minor government building in a modified X-wing two days ago, covered in someone else’s blood and injured.” They explained. “While normally this would remain as internal affairs, several bizzare elements require a jedi’s expertise. We felt it was best to call you first.”
“And why is that? What details would lead you to call me and not Jacen, or another Jedi?”
He crossed his arms. He hadn’t called Mara in yet, he wanted to know the full situation before he bothered her. Though the force pulled at him as he listened. He knew this wasn’t a waste of his time at least.
“Well firstly, the X-wings model, year and serial number match yours. And yet you’ve not announced a theft, and it can be easily seen parked outside your domicile in cam footage.” They began. “And the blood the girl is covered in is a perfect match to Han solo, and yet when checking his status he seems perfectly unharmed. He seemed to think our call to check on him was a prank.”
Luke nodded for them to continue. Could it be an issue with clones? And yet that wouldn’t explain the x-wing. Or why they met a girl covered in a dead clones blood instead of the clone. Meanwhile, the officer continued.
“Besides that, there was an unknown caustic substance on her clothing. We’ve collected it but can find nothing similar,” They said. “And the girl has no records whatsoever, and no sign that any were wiped by splicers. Not even a birth certificate. When we finally chose to run a paternity test, it was a match for yourself and Mara Jade. When questioned about this, the girl refused to give so much as a name. She also refused pain killers or any medical attention for what seem to be extensive wounds.”
“And this paternity test is why you need both myself and my wife.”
“Yes sir. Especially because she is a minor, we hope your presence will at least convince her to submit to medical treatment, if not to give us more information.” They explained, “she has been in custody for two days sir, and while there doesn’t seem to be an immediate threat, the mystery of her existence is beyond our capability to investigate.”
“Understood, I’ll be there shortly.”

"They set it up!" - Neymar jr
Tumblr media
A/n : this is so confusing and idk if it makes sense. I just wanted to post something, anything. hope u still enjoy it :)
[Third person pov]
The smell of freshly prepared pasta wafted through the corridors of the apartment. The atmosphere was soothing with a blanket on the couch & a favorite movie on the TV. The setting sun and its last rays were the only thing that could be seen through the window.
Today was Y/n's day off and she decided not to bother going out, to be honest, she wasn't in the mood either. Yesterday, she broke up with her boyfriend of a year and a half because she found out he was cheating on her. She didn't do anything all day. In the morning she went out to do the shopping, but since then she has been at her place, reading the unfinished book and finishing watching the last few episodes of the series she has been bingeing on lately.
After pouring herself a portion of the pasta, she headed to the sofa, taking her phone from the charger. The girl had not yet checked her social media, her phone flooded with messages from Instagram, Twitter and Messenger. There was nothing interesting in the internet world. There were no dramas at the moment, or at least Y/n hadn't run into them. One of the messages was from her boyfriend well ex now, Neymar jr, and read 'I'm really sorry. I promise you, I haven't done anything. You know I would never touch anyone else expect you. I love you. Baby please answer me. ' and stuff like that, but Y/n just blocked him. Less than a minute later, her phone rang. As soon as she saw that it was Neymar, she let him ring, but as soon as she realized that he was not going to give up so easily, she picked up the phone, but remained silent, letting him speak.
"Hi meu amor. I know you are there, but you are silent because you want me to speak, so I will speak and tell you everything. The other night after we won the game we went out for a treat but we got drunk and I don't even know how I got home. I swear to god I don't know the girl who was next to me. They set it up! We haven't done anything, I promise you. I know the pictures you saw don't do justice to my words, but I have a video where she is paid to lie next to me half naked. I'll send it to you so you can make sure too. Eu te amo muito. Eu nunca faria algo assim para te machucar. Você significa muito para mim. [ I love you so much. I would never do anything like that to hurt you. You mean so much to me.]" After he explained everything to her in one breath, Y/n unblocked him to send her the video. And he was right. The girl could be clearly seen haggling for the amount of money and eventually getting it, before taking off her dress and laying down next to the sleeping Neymar. But how did she get into his room?
"You can see for yourself what it's all about. I still don't know how she managed to get into my room and who helped her and why they took pictures, but at least I can rest assured that you know the truth." Neymar sighed, his red eyes filled with tears once again. He doesn't know how he let things get here. Only a day since the love of his life left him, but he doesn't know what is happening around him. At least now that Y/n had let him explain the ugly situation, he hoped she would return to his arms. He missed her, her touch, her kisses, her voice, her laugh, her presence in general. He was so deeply madly in love with her that he was ready to leave his family and end his career for her, and we all know how important family & football are to him.
He was just about to hang up the phone when her soft breaking voice called. "Ney, im so sorry. I should have let you explain earlier, but because of my stubborn head, I didn't and hurt both of us. I wish I could hug and kiss you. I miss you." Y/n said, her voice quiet but understandable. She knows that's not possible because of the miles that separate them every day.
" Se você descer e sair, seu desejo pode se tornar realidade. Se você descer e sair, seu desejo pode se tornar realidade. " [If you go downstairs and go outside, your wish may come true.]" Neymar replied with a small smile that could be heard in his voice.
He was here. He was finally here. Her smile shot across her face. Y/n would finally see him. She was so excited that she didn't even bother to get a jacket and flew down the stairs, opening the front door as quickly as possible. And here in front of her stood Neymar. With his classic smile and different hairstyle. He opened his arms and Y/n ran up and jumped on top of him. Her legs wrapped around his hips, his arms around her back and under her thigh to keep her from dropping to the ground. She nuzzled her face into his neck, smelling his fresh scent & he buried his face in her hair, inhaling her shampoo, which smelled of vanilla and cinnamon.
They pulled back and smashed their lips into each other's. Their lips seemed to be made for each other and fit together like a puzzle. Ney couldn't seem to enjoy Y/n's cherry lip balm & her hands were tangled in his curls.
"I missed you and I'm so sorry I didn't believe you at first." Y/n whispered, forehead pressed against Neymar's.
" Tudo está bem agora. Eu te amo." [ Everything is good now. I love you.]
" Te amo mais." [I love you more.]

Who I was before you:
Ele aceita o desafio e começa a frequentar a mansão do detetive.
Eu fiquei pensando nessa au a noite toda kkkkk.
XxX ENG XxX
How I was before you (AU-Guapoduo):
This is one of my favorite films, but I haven't read the book, so forgive me if something ESSENTIAL is missing from this synopsis.
“q!Cellbit suffered a serious accident. He was a detective already establishing himself in his career. He had gained fame in some cases that he managed to solve in record time and was recognized in the industry for not being rude to victims and taking great care not to lose clues or destroy the crime scene.
However, on a certain day, while he was helping to chase a group of criminals (f!Guaxi f!Jnvq and f!Pac :) ), he received a shot in the back that ended up hitting his spinal cord. It paralyzed him from the head down. He had countless treatments and surgeries, but it was impossible, he was “doomed”, or at least he felt that way.
Nothing brought him joy and nothing made him want to get out of his bed, he no longer saw the point in living. Even if he agreed to take on some cases to investigate, he didn't leave the house, he didn't talk to anyone other than through voice messages or texts, he didn't cut his hair or care about his appearance.
His sister, q!Bagi, had moved into his house with her wife and children. She wanted to take care of him, try to cheer him up with the children. But it seemed like nothing really helped and she also needed to go back to work.
Five years have passed since the accident and she finally found someone to help her who she believed to be a really good person. And with that we meet our other protagonist: q!Roier.
q!Roier still lived with his parents. He was a psychologist and had specialized in physiotherapy. He was a sweet and kind man, he dressed in superhero sweatshirts and liked to walk outdoors, always showing off his beautiful smile.
When reading about q!Cellbit's case in the files that the patient's sister had brought, he knew it would be a challenge, especially since the patient himself seemed to be a man with a difficult personality. But q!Roier wasn't all joy either, he had experienced his bad times and understood the pain of feeling completely lost and empty.
He accepts the challenge and starts visiting the detective's mansion. Would the physical therapist be able to soften the detective's heart? Or is the end of this story already destined to end?*”
(*I recommend watching the film to understand what I meant in those last lines). Did you like it or meh? I was thinking about this au all night hahaha

DOCTOR WHO TOP 10 - 3rd Doctor
The lists continue. Yes, I'm obsessed with making lists.
10. Terror of the Autons
Tumblr media
Thoroughly iconic. What else can I say?
9. The Mind of Evil
Tumblr media
I dunno why this one in particular. I haven't seen it for quite a few years but for some reason, I just find the concept really interesting and gravite to this serial.
8. The Glen of Sleeping
Tumblr media
I should read more of the TV Action/Countdown stuff, because this was genuinely fun. The first comic strip featuring the Master, if I'm not mistaken. And it's really good.
7. The Ambassadors of Death
Tumblr media
A really cool take on the first contact story. The best serial of S7. And the last David Whitaker story.
6. The Curse of Peladon
Tumblr media
I feel like this is the point where Pertwee's Doctor Who starts actually resembling Doctor Who... But this time cooler! And with political intrigue! Definitely the best serial Brian Hayles wrote.
5. The Time Warrior
Tumblr media
Another admission time: I'm a huge fan of Sontarans. I love them to bits. This is their best outing in all of classic Who. It's also really fun and introduces Sarah Jane. Easy top 5.
4. The Daemons
Tumblr media
Just a really great finale to the Master season. I love it. The tension between magic and science, the folk horror influences... Yeah, this one is amazing.
3. Planet of the Spiders
Tumblr media
The big finale for the 3rd Doctor. The nine-year-old child inside me is jumping up and down even just thinking about this one - paranormal powers, huge spiders, the Doctor as the buddhist hero... I love this shit. And it helps that it's the perfect finale to this era of Who.
2. The Three Doctors
Tumblr media
Two is my fave. There is no timeline in which this isn't the top TV story of this era. But my number 1 overall isn't a TV story...
1. The Heralds of Destruction
Tumblr media
Yeah. My favourite 3rd Doctor story by far is a comic book.
I genuinely believe that The Heralds of Destruction is increadibly good. But it not just that. It's also the fact that it kinda out-Pertwees the Pertwee era? It takes a look at the most glam bits of Pertwee era and turns them up to 11. And honestly? It's just a blast to read. Cornell is the god of Doctor Who fanfic and this is what all eu stuff should aspire to be - in conversation with the era it slots into, while also just an amazing bit of Who on its own.

Not to "back in my day" like a fucking boomer, but
I've been HYPER fixated on star wars since I was five fuckin years old (so, TWENTY FIVE YEARS) and my dad made the mistake of letting me watch the OT with him (only good thing he ever did for me tbh). I just moved recently and unpacked boxes and I own 255????? (more, probably, in boxes I haven't found yet????) Legends/EU books (and a handful of Disney ones that I haven't read).
And, like????? Nearly everything Disney has been churning out since the acquisition has been complete dogshit, at least in terms of their shows and movies. (The high republic is fun and has good stuff but it's so poorly marketed and disorganized and hard to follow.)
Mando season 1 with Din "what's a star war" Djarin worked because he was just Some Guy, but they promptly ruined it with cameos and tie-ins and crossovers and increasingly shitty writing.
The Ahsoka series? HOT FUCKING GARBAGE, SORRY not sorry
And now DAVE "FELONY" FILONI has been given a movie for theatrical release fucking hell 😩
Please, god, I'm begging. Stop puppeting around the corpse of a franchise that drew its last breath the second The Rise of Skywalker hit theaters.

hi, here with an ask! what's your favorite non-Prequel Trilogy Star Wars book? Also, if you wrote a Star Wars book or movie or comic or whatever, what would be your pitch/idea?
And what an incredibly fun ask too!!! Thank you so much!
Great question because I do hang out so much in the prequel era! This is a little embarrassing because I haven't read it in years and I feel like it might have been one of those that Really Didn't Age Well but Courtship of Princess Leia was the book that hooked me on the EU when I was probably... 12? And my little sheltered ass just devouring these hot lady Force witches riding around rancors and blowing up Han Solo's molars just because they can?? Old School Dathomir?? Ugh. I actually haven't re-read it because I don't want to ruin the sentimentality for myself.
...oh, and I know they're a bit corny, but I really like those Young Jedi Knights series too. Jacen Solo, get out of the way, you're blocking my view of Tenel Ka!
And of course my top pitch would be to write something in Dooku, Sifo-Dyas, and Jocasta's youth or early twenties: some chaos adventure where the three are on a (probably unsanctioned, lets be real) mission together and have to use each of their particular talents to work together, highlighting the different talents of different types of Jedi and ultimately getting myself fired from the project when it was deemed too gay.
The other idea I have is a really grimdark Clone Wars stand alone novel that's a character study piece on Kit Fisto in the war. I love that guy. I want to write about his lineage (I think he trained Bant in the EU?? Well I'd recanonize that shit) and his rich internal world.

1, 2, 11, 16?
1. Do you listen to music when you write?
No. It's distracting.
2. Are you a pantser or plotter?
Pantser, but I've kind of verged into more of a flashlight writer lately, and I have been taking time to think through what I'm doing and what's happened and edit as I go more now. But you'll never catch me doing an outline or making any kind of useful notes for future plans; only freewriting ideas at myself.
11.  Books and/or authors who influenced you the most
Pretty sure I answered this one last time around, lol.
Roger Zelazny, for better or for worse. Probably for both, really. My dad owns every single book he wrote, and while I haven't read most of the novels, the short stories are really something. Every time I don't explain my exposition? That's his fault for sure.
The Night Room, by E.M. Goldman. The layers and little details just buried so far back is so intoxicating. I reread this one a lot as a kid realizing new things.
I talked here about YuuMori
Sarah Monette/Katherine Addison. I'm never, ever going to write like she does, but you can just. Tell she knows her shit. And the character voices are so distinct. And in The Goblin Emperor, it was...so....hopeful, for once. It had a happy ending around building bridges as a leader and wanting to be known for that. So I think the things I want to take are: writing about the things you know and love so that everyone knows you know your shit and love it, making every character voice sing, and just. Leaning into that philosophy in TGE.
A lot of stuff I read obsessively in middle school in Formative Years: A bunch of Star Wars EU/Legends books, the Fearless series, The Pendragon Adventures, Enchanted Forest, Pit Dragons...etc.
16. How many drafts do you need until you’re satisfied with a project?
This depends wildly on the project and how long it is, but generally at least three: The messy fuckup draft, the part where I clean up all the obvious stuff, and the draft after someone else looks at it and I fix it again. Sometimes that last step repeats a fair few times.
Cons of being a pantser.

Well, time for my autistic hyperfixation skills to shine! Here's your cheat-sheet for what Halo EU media to skip to for the good parts (aka aliens):
Since you've already read The Cole Protocol, Envoy is a rlly good skipping point. Besides the greatness that is Rojka 'Kasaan, and it having a pretty notable Jiralhanae villain, it's also written by the same author and follows up on the Gray Team storyline introduced in the former book.
Hunters in the Dark also makes the top of my list for fleshing out the Halo 3 co-op characters N'tho 'Sraom and Usze 'Taham and giving us nice cross-species positive interactions. Also can't forget Broken Circle, as it's all Sangheili and San'Shyuum in the story, no humans for once. It's split between two timelines: the era of the Covenant's founding and the time of Halo 2.
The Ferrets series of books (Last Light, Retribution, and Divine Wind so far) features the reoccurring antagonistic faction the Keepers of the One Truth lead by the Jiralhanae named Castor. The Master Chief series also features Fleetmaster Nizat 'Kvarosee in the first two books (Silent Storm and Oblivion) and the Keepers in Shadows of Reach; haven't read them yet but I heard good things about Nizat so far and he seems to be one of the more unique in the lore, being kinda older than most Sangheili we've seen so far. Also can't forget the Halo CE novelization, The Flood, which featured the first portrayal of Covenant perspectives in canon I believe (and therefore some of the lore and characterization there is a bit off in comparison to the rest of the books, but it's fine). Zuka 'Zamamee and Yayap are a real treat in that one, even if the tone of their sections are a bit sillier than most (from my impression so far, haven't finished the book yet actually).
And I kind of have to include the Kilo-Five trilogy, although with the fair warning that they're a bit divisive amongst the fandom. You're either gonna like them or despise them. I think a majority people, regardless of how they feel about the trilogy as a whole, did find the alien sections fine though. If I had to re-read them again I'd probably skip to just those chapters. Jul 'Mdama is a prominent character in the first two books (Glasslands and The Thursday War), with his wife Raia 'Mdama having more of a spotlight in the second, but then the whole 'Mdama plotline wraps up and gets replaced by Kig-Yar Chol 'Von in Mortal Dictata (although she's a good character on her own and it's unfortunate her story never got picked up by other authors after the trilogy ended). Other notable aliens in the trilogy include Forze 'Mdama, Avu Med 'Telcam, Sav Fel, and probably the most concentration of named Huragoks in a Halo storyline ever. Thel also makes some appearances here too.
Speaking of the 'Mdamas tho; I haven't gotten to it yet but Legacy of Onyx does feature Jul and Raia's sons as major players post-Halo 5, plus I believe there is a Sangheili teacher character and maybe some rare alien kid characters. Ohhhh and I can't believe I almost forgot, but upcoming book Outcasts is gonna feature Thel as a main character again! Been waiting for it but it got delayed, we should finally be getting it in August tho. You may want to read the Master Chief books first tho since it looks like some lore introduced there will be featured here too, especially since it's the same author Troy Dennings.
Finally to round out the recs are the anthologies. I'd go for Fractures before Evolutions, as the former has Shadow of Intent with Rtas, Tul 'Juran, Vul 'Soran, Stolt, and Tem'Bhetek and Oasis with Jat (who existed for maybe a dozen pages but has captured my heart for years). Latter still has Henry (human nickname, we never learned his real name because of language barrier) in The Mona Lisa, some named Jiralhanae in Stomping on the Heels of a Fuss (which I forgot about so idk if it's because it's been years or if they did not have much of a role), and an unnamed Sangheili shipmaster who's the focus of The Return. The Return & The Mona Lisa also got "animated" adaptations in the form of voice-acted motion comics you can find on YouTube.
Those are all books but maybe I might as well throw in the comics. Obviously there's the Rise of Atriox miniseries. Also not as well known but there was a small prequel comic for the first Halo Wars which features Ripa 'Moramee's origin story; I got the physical copy as part of my game copy, idk if there's a way to access it digitally. The Halo Graphic Novel includes the famous Halo story The Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor feat Rtas 'Vadum and Thel in his Fleetmaster era. Haven't read it but Blood Lines has two Sangheili brothers as major antagonists. Tales From Slipspace has Atriox in Hunting Party and Avu Med 'Telcam in Knight Takes Bishop. Finally one of the more well known comics, Escalation has a few points of interest (note I haven't read all of 'em yet and going off Halopedia for this): Thel in Issues 1-3 + Jiralhanae Lydus, Jul 'Mdama and Sali 'Nyon in the Janus Key arc (Issues 13-16) and Absolute Record arc (Issues 19-24), and Ayit 'Sevi in Absolute Record arc.
And what the heck. let's get obscure: The Halo Wars Official Strategy Guide published by Prima Publishing includes some flash fiction featuring Ripa 'Moramee and The Prophet of Regret, because sometimes crumbs is all ya get. Halo: Legends - aka the official Halo anime - also has The Duel which shows an ancient Arbiter and why the title is considered dishonorable in modern Halo times.
Oh and... I guess there's the Forerunner trilogy, for like, Forerunners... tbh tho they're basically bootleggish humans to me, I rank them the lowest out of all the Halo aliens and don't really consider them most of the time when hyper-focusing on Halo aliens.
Gonna read this later

12, 15 for the book asks?
12: Any books that disappointed you?
I had relatively high hopes for Master & Apprentice by Claudia Gray, which was my first foray into Disney's Star Wars EU. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Gray has a pretty good grasp of the complex father-son-esque dynamic between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui Gon Jinn, but she and I have very differing opinions about Qui Gon Jinn as a character, mostly when it comes to the religious aspect of the Jedi Order. (Gray writes Qui Gon as if he has a very naturalistic perspective on the world and isn't into That Weird Mystical Stuff anymore, when I always understood Qui Gon to have a strong mystical bend, even if he frequently defies the Order.) The main plot also didn't grab me, nor did any of the original characters. It wasn't a bad start to a new EU, per se, and I'd still somewhat recommend it, but it wasn't what I expected.
15: Did you read any books that were nominated for or won awards this year (Booker, Women’s Prize, National Book Award, Pulitzer, Hugo, etc.)? What did you think of them?
No. I think the most recent thing I read (or rather started reading; I haven't finished it) was The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer, which was published about 4 years ago, I think.

hi love! 14, 18, 19
Mwah 🥰
14. Favorite book you read this year?
oooh gotta be Discworld 11 - The Reaper Man. im very slowly working my way through the series and its marvelous and i would recc it to everyone. I haven't been reading books as this year as I used to, honestly, given the amount of academic articles and shit i have to consume all the time, but discworld is a lovely break for when i can muster the concentration.
18. A memorable meal this year?
I hate food since i have to think about it all the fucking time. The only thing i can think of are the swiss wurscht kinda hotdogs i ate 😹
19. What’re you excited about for next year?
Not having therapy mid-semesters. Maybe going to an F1 race, if I manage to convince some people to go with me. Hopefully getting my EU citizenship. Seeing my online friends in person hopefully, too.

For the ship meme... Luke/Mara (also Luke/Mara/Bodhi because I'm greedy!!!!)
XD
luke/mara: Ship It
What made you ship it?
This is one of those Baby's First Ship things, actually! I read The Thrawn Trilogy when I was 12-13 years old, aka Formative Fandom time, and I just imprinted really hard on Mara as a fascinating female character who kept having to keep Luke alive instead of killing him like she allegedly wanted to. Enemies to lovers indeed. :D
What are your favorite things about the ship?
I actually haven't read a lot of Luke/Mara fic in recent years. Back when the internet was still relatively new I used to read it all over the place and save .txt files of my favorites...sadly I think a lot of those got lost between computers. Anyway, my favorite things about it canonically(ish, EU still counts) are how Luke just keeps being very, very patient with Mara as she sorts out her shit through to the Duology and they slowly grow towards each other like plants bending towards the light or whatever. :D
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Despite my undying love for it, and Mara, in the books? It can stay relegated to the EU, honestly. I thought I wanted it back whenever Disney acquired Lucasfilm but I think the utter shitstorm that would have ensued with ever pairing Luke up with anyone For Reals would have been too much for my poor brain...
luke/mara/bodhi:
lol. kate. wyd. okay yes I was headed in that direction for the IGIKWIGT sequel, but I was also kind of planning a more V-shaped situation with Luke at the apex and Mara and Bodhi as Very Good Friends after she sorted out all of her rage about who the guys are to her. since it doesn't really exist as a ship I'm not gonna answer the other two questions at the moment XD
ask me about ships!

Hey! Just to tell you I loved your critique against that Achilles Song book and I agree with you that I hate how Greek (and at lesser or more degree Roman or Egyptian) classics are changed in a nonsense way just to please the modern reader and give them a progressive agenda to the characters.
Just for curiosity, what do you think about fantasy media that is inspired in ancient Greek myths and legends like Percy Jackson books or Saint Seiya?
Dunno, those were my faves when I was a kid (but I have not checked them since at least 10 years ago, lol), but, seeing how the Percy Jackson fans try to portrait themselves as all knowing about Greek culture, while actually not engaging in the classics and refusing to know about Ancient Greek history and culture. The Saint Seiya guys seem more normal, but I'm not sure if Greek people just saw the anime as a gross cultural appropiation like Hercules from Disney or they actually did not mind it.
An interesting ask to receive, thanks! And hm... I don't really know? I haven't read Percy Jackson or Saint Seiya so I can't comment. It all depends on the media in question - it's nice to see so many people like it, but our ancient legacy is kind of all Greece has right now. The economic depression, the ecological impact on the islands that's been happening, the fact that it's mainly considered a tourist destination for wealthier Europeans and the bitter state of the modern Greek youth - and yet we have this legacy we feel so connected to despite all the years between, lmao.
My family is from Sparta - a small rural village just outside it, actually - and so when the movie 300 came out the hype was unreal. Like King Leonidas is a cultural hero, there's still a monument to him in Sparta - they were making a movie about our guy! I saw it with twenty Greeks, all Spartans... and they hated it. They were yelling at the screen, they were so upset, and none of them knew what a Frank Miller comic book was. I recently tried to rewatch it and had to turn it off at the scene with the ephors and the oracle. Don't get me started on Troy, lol.
Otoh, I recently enjoyed Hades (the game) though I avoided it for a while. It's bright and colorful, the gods are strange and erratic, and it's tons of fun. Demeter grief-stricken at the loss of her daughter, Persephone avoiding Hades and Hades being angry and bitter - that was great. (I could go into a whole tangent about how people are actually erasing the voices and pain of ancient women when they woke-ify Hades and Persephone, but.)
The essential thing is this: the ancient Greeks were capable of criticizing their own culture. We invented philosophy: the art of sitting around talking about what's wrong with society and how we might fix it. They wrote plays - plays that won awards, that were preserved unto this day! - that served as a feminist critique of their classic heroic myths. Going back to the 300 film, while it's true oracles were often sexually abused, they noticed that was a problem and made changes to prevent that. There's this attitude people take to ancient cultures a lot where they think people were just... stupid, and wholly swallowed everything, and then they're gonna write their critique of their problematic beliefs without considering the humanity and knowledge of people who lived thousands of years ago.
You don't need to completely change the themes and meaning and significance of our stories, but what you can do is humanize them. Rather than hole them up in some white-walled Ivory Tower of Academia bring them out as they were - intended to be funny, intended to make you think - while preserving the historical context. I have dreams of making an Odyssey film (that some EU arts fund needs to give me a billion dollars to make. also, i am a legendary respected filmmaker in this fantasy) that would bring economic prosperity to the Greek islands and also make it /funny/, showing that Odysseus was a trickster figure who fit ancient heroic definitions of being a wild celebrity figure rather than a Hollywood Hero. Making it clear that his wife was just as smart as him and they were a love-match and making Athena buff as hell and swapping into a man's body, even making Odysseus black - none of that would be modernizing the story to suit our woke tastes. It would piss the hell off a lot of supposed "Classics" fans.
Ultimately, though, having fun with the mythos isn't actually harmful. What is harmful, what genuinely upsets me on a fundamental level, is how Le Classics have been incorporated into this great ideal of Western Civilization and then been appropriated by white supremacists. Here's a great blog doing the good work going into it in detail, but twisting ancient culture to fit your own modern ideals is just.... not good for anyone, lol.
EDIT: ...In my last post I was like "why is tumblr recommending me eurofash propaganda" and I just realized. Liking ancient greek culture and the classics is probably why 0__0

Not Normal About Doctor Who
Back in June, I went to a fae-themed picnic with my girlfriend and my girlfriend's girlfriend (not an official title, they're not dating (or are they?)) and my girlfriend's girlfriend confessed that next month she's not going to be normal about Good Omens. She just knew it. I guess a large portion of tumblr can relate.
I replied that I am definitely going to be less and less normal about Doctor Who when we get closer to November.
Well, I was right. It's like a full moon is for a werewolf. For the past month, there hasn't been a single hour when I haven't thought about Doctor Who for at least a little bit. Maybe when I'm asleep. Maybe. Sometimes, I'm just lying in my bed, thinking about Doctor Who for hours and hours.
I've started reading two Doctor Who books. The first is an eighth Doctor book called Alien Bodies by Lawrence Miles. The second is an anthology - The Target Storybook.
I've also been writing my own short story for a small Czech fanfic competition. I picked a more recent Doctor rather than a classic one, which is quite unusual for me. (It's a Thasmin story set in the Land of Fiction. Yeah.)
I've been scrollig through the eyespider website (check it out if you haven't already), spotting stories that I would place elsewhere. Thinking about making my own version. Again. I once tried to make my own version as a Czech translation of the original website, but now I actually want to do it as a way to track which Doctor Who stories from the EU I've experienced. Also, fixing the placements that I disagree with. That's a big reason as well.
Also scrolling through Altered Vistas again. And TARDIS Wiki, but that one's obvious. Although I do recommend checking out the old classics like Fire, Grass, and, of course, the best one.
I've obviously rewatched some stuff. Outside of The Mind Robber and Shada, I'm watching series four with my mum and my girlfriend in preparation for the 60th anniversary trilogy, because they haven't seen the episodes with Donna before.
I've also been listening to some Big Finish. Mainly Once and Future, but I'm also thinking about listening to 10th Doctor and Donna boxsets, as well as the Companion Chronicles stuff featuring Sara Kingdom.
Probably gonna read more comics very soon, it seems inevitable. Maybe that digital scan of Abslom Daak - The Dalek Killer that somehow appeared on my external harddrive? Some 13th Doctor comics too. I desperately need to find more stories with her that I actually like.
I can name every Doctor Who TV story in order. But the other day, I caught myself trying to also remember every writer to all of the stories in the 60s Who. I'm gonna have to memorise that one properly, I still have some gaps. The Space Museum was written by Glyn Jones.
I've been thinking about sharing my top 10 favourite stories for each Doctor here, on tumblr. And yes, those top 10s are gonna include EU stories. Some of them will have more EU stories than TV stories. I will obviously have to update them next year. Could be my new November tradition!
Oh, and I'm also writing a Doctor Who fanzine for a Czech Doctor Who by-fans-for-fans convention. I am also one of the organisers of said convention.
So yeah. I'm not normal about Doctor Who right now. And The Star Beast hasn't even aired yet! Meep meep!

hello! since you're a comics fan, and a star wars fan, I was wondering: do you have any recommendations for good star wars comics? if not, can I expand that to just any extended universe content that's good? I've been meaning to get into it but there is So Much out there
anyways yeah love your blog; your rec lists are a lifesaver to me every day :)
Going to be completely honest: I haven't really kept up with the Star Wars comics for quite awhile.
When I was reading them, I really enjoyed Kanan (which largely acts as a Star Wars Rebels tie-in comic), the Princess Leia mini, the Obi-Wan and Anakin mini, and the main Star Wars run. While I haven't read most of it, what bits I have read of the main Darth Vader run are incredible and I've heard from basically anyone who wants to talk about it that it remains so more-or-less the whole way through. The pieces of the Doctor Aphra run I read were also delightful.
In terms of EU/Legends material and new canon books, I'm going to point you to this post I did on Reddit a couple of years ago. It's obviously not comprehensive and it's a bit out of date (I'd probably add stuff like the Queen's Shadow trilogy by EK Johnston, the Obi-Wan book that just came out, etc if I were doing it now), but it's a solid starter list all the same.

A Court of Thorns and Roses (#1-3) by Sarah J. Maas (August 2022)
Tumblr media
Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ... Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.
Would I recommend it to anyone? I want one of my friends to read it so she can be salty about it, it would be very funny.
Level of (dis)satisfaction based on the summary and my expectations? I knew very well what I was getting into, since this was a re-reading. I got what I wanted out of it: a good laugh and reasons not to read the 4th book. Or another SJM book.
My thoughts on it? Well. Let's just say that it's good if you're looking to put your brain on the side and read some smut. But just because the plot has as many holes as Swiss emmental doesn't mean there aren't serious topics: you've got anger management issues, dubious consent, weird sex scenes, passages that make you wonder why the books haven't been Cancelled™️ yet, deaths, blood, PTSD and trauma in general.
I has really liked those books a few years ago, they helped me get out of a years-long reading slump, but it isn't the kind of book I enjoy reading today. Then again, it's really not the worst. It's readable, even if not very well written, it doesn't really make sense sometimes but it gets the job done.

Day 1 Language Practice
Ive been getting into languages for a long time now but I haven't gotten many chances to practice so Im going to just keep this diary thing to help see if Im actually learning the language and to talk about my experiences with the language
1. Brazilian Portuguese (Learning for over a year now)
- Oi, chame-me Klaus!
2. German (Just started learning this month)
Hallo, Ich bin Klaus!
Onto the more diary part:
Portuguese: Ive always been passively interested in languages but never took the full step into it until I got older and realized how isolated I felt from my communities due to the fact I only knew english. Out of my entire heritage, I am most connected to my Brazilian roots and it was really hard to accept the idea Id never be "Brazilian/Latino enough" to other latinos because I didnt know the language and therefore wasnt able to experience the culture in its most authentic state. So I took the full dive into learning PTBR, starting with Duolingo as it has a solid PTBR course. It took around 2/3 or so of a year but I eventually finished the course and I started occasionally watching brazilian youtubers (my two favorites being Eyz and Gravetto) but besides that I didnt do much to further my knowledge base. Since then Ive gotten some books in portuguese to help with casual talk and learning the historial contexts of the language.
So far, after all my learning I can read advcanced texts in portuguese and generally understand what its saying, I can write decently well but Im terrible at speaking since I rarely am able to practice my speech and theres a lot of words Ive always said throughout my life that Ive apparently been pronouncing wrong the whole time (learning Ive been saying Guarana wrong my whole life and none of my family corrected me was the most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced)
German: After learning PTBR it made me realize I could keep learning more languages if I wanted to. Deciding on what I wanted my 2nd language to learn be was very hard, but I ended up landing on german as I have both Brazilian and German ancestry and Ive found ancestry to be a really good motivator for me to learn!
Just like portuguese Im starting off learning with Duolingo to help me learn the basics but I have gotten textbooks in German in advance so once I feel like Im ready Ill dive into the more technical stuff without sitting on my ass for a couple months like I did with portuguese. On top of that, unlike Portuguese where I kind of just winged it Im keeping a notebook to keep track of what Im learning. Its very messy though and full of doodles so dont expect me to post it anytime soon it aint aesthetic in any way lmao unless dyslexia and adhd writing pleases you
Notes; Along with German textbooks Ive decided to pick up textbooks (barely any really but hey something is something) for Tagalog as Ive always wanted to learn it but I really have no idea if Ill ever get a chance to since Im busy learning PTBR and german
