Snapper and Stinkpot Character Ref: Bad Future Donatello

Donatello Hamato - 33-39, he/him

A lot has changed since Donatello’s brother accidentally caused the apocalypse. He can’t drink coffee, he’s carrying the research and development team of the resistance on his back, and he rarely ever gets a day of peace and quiet… until he suddenly find himself with far too much quiet.

After coming up with a proposal that could help save hundreds of human lives from the looming Krang menace, Donatello suddenly finds himself estranged and alienated from the family he would do anything to protect. Maybe they just can’t understand his vision?

My design for future Donatello comes from his ever growing feeling of loneliness and overwhelming drive to fix things. Passionately trying to make up for his missteps, Donatello throws himself into his work and art 24/7. Does it work? We may never know. I love the idea that Donatello finds meaning in life through the things he can make and design for others- it’s all he knows how to do. He won’t admit it, but he’s a huge people pleaser and he needs to help them in order to feel loved. This Donatello is broken; his drive to help others has backfired and hurt the people closest to him, and Casey Junior is especially reluctant to forget it.

In lighter news, Donatello’s outfit on the far right is inspired in part by Casey Junior’s outfit in the movie. My thought while looking at him was: “where did that fur come from?” I’d like to think that while Donatello did design his clothes, Casey refused to let the fashionista anywhere near his ensemble. Simply put, Donatello wears it all much better.

Really kid, please take better care of your clothes. Wear colors that don’t make me think of barf. 🤢

Anyway, what ‘delights’ has this stand-up guy, this pioneer of mediocre cartooning, this dude on the cusp of arguing with little kids on Twitter been sharing with us, the great unwashed, at this present time? Let’s run through a brief checklist of the ‘highlights’, shall we?

*Telling people the upcoming Miraculous movie is what the fans ‘want’ but the show is what we ‘need’ (whatever THAT means, typically modest reaction from the epitome of humbleness himself).

*Saying that anyone who DARES criticise the show should ‘keep it to themselves’ or they’ll be ‘blocked for spreading negativity about the artists’ (dude thinks he can police Twitter… good luck with that!)

*Informing fanfiction writers that their work is ‘pointless’ and the only people who know what they’re doing are him and his team (If you mean ‘How To Destroy A Franchise In Five Easy Seasons… I guess he’s right)

But his favorite topic (seriously, check out his replies… we’re talking more than 50% here) concerns a fictional teenage girl he constantly decries but can’t seem to get enough of moaning about. It is of course… oh let’s face it. You know the answer to that one already. ROLL THE TWEETS!!

Yep, you guessed it. Apart from the OP being uncommonly accurate in their opinion, now apparently ‘Chloe’ has become The Not-So-Great Bearded One’s new insult of choice for anyone who dislikes what’s been done to the show. Poor ‘Karen’ never stood a chance… 😢

What a mature, grown-up type chap he is! I have no idea why he’s no longer referred to as ‘Hawk Daddy’ in polite circles, and instead called ‘Man Baby’. Just look at him, REALLY giving it a bunch of teens on Twitter who DARE imply his show is nothing but da best! You go, Thomas! Go change your dirty diaper, that is. 🤢

So, abandoning all her subtleties and nuance , reducing her to a shrieking monster and choosing to actively give characters who have arguably done FAR WORSE throughout the series much better endings means they ‘wrote it well’? Gosh, maybe getting an F in English stands for ‘Fabulous’ after all!

Guess in Thomas’s somewhat warped worldview, everyone who doesn’t like 💯 of his show from top to bottom should be placed on a plane with their main abuser to be forcibly deported and probably tortured for the rest of their sorry lives. That’ll teach them!

And who cares about stupid stuff like ‘build-up’ or ‘character-development’ if they genuinely were preparing Chloe for… what was that thing he described it as again… a ‘damnation’ arc? Let’s just flip a switch at the end of S3 to turn her into a pathetic caricature of her worst excesses without explanation, then introduce a ‘perfect’ sister out of nowhere to throw all those undesirable traits into sharp relief! And that’s not even getting into that detestable retconning flashback episode… What an absolutely fantastic idea to make everyone hate her as much as Thomas does!

No-one will notice the sudden incongruity here… after all, the average age of their audience is 5-8 so if they just throw excrement like crazed baboons about Chloe at the young audience time and time again caveman-style CHLOE: BAD. EVERYONE ELSE: GOOD the kids will chow it up like cheap chocolate ice cream! The older ones that do kick up a fuss? Who gives a ****. They don’t buy the merchandise, and where would all those hard-working producers if it wasn’t for all that cheap plastic crap?

With considerably less cars, swimming pools and exotic holidays to hard-to-pronounce destinations, that’s where! Let’s keep that bandwagon of shit a-rollin’… 🤑

Ah, now I believe this is that classic tactic otherwise known as ‘gaslighting’. When you say something as a fact over and over again, when the opposite is clearly true. Those of lesser willpower may start to accept it as reality while others (mostly those with functioning eyes, ears and brains)… won’t.

You know who was also good at that gaslighting thing, don’t you? A few clues… A Former (thank God) President? Very orange? Initials DT? Yep, that guy.

…And coincidentally, someone Thomas has been known to compare Chloe (14 year old girl, let’s not forget) to regularly. I mean, with THAT kind of accolade hanging over her head from the guy who created her, how could she ever fail?

See? What a great influence he is on the young too! Now he’s got his own handpicked gang of sycophants out of the street labelling anyone with the slightest complaint from a)pointing out the animation was slightly better last season or b)saying they miss the old transformation sequences as a ‘Chloe’. I think we’ve found his new favorite insult, and it’s the worst word he can possibly think of. Figures.

I bet he’s putting together a petition as we speak, for an official entry into the dictionary. Fortunately, there’s already one for ‘Thomas’, as in ‘Doubting Thomas’… someone who talks so much nonsense you should disbelieve anything they say. Or Thomas The Tank Engine, because whenever you mention a certain Blonde’s name in his presence, he tends to blow steam, look very heated and… you get the picture. 😆

On top of everything else, now he’s issuing threats. I have to hand it to him though… that’s a pretty good one. NO PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY MY LIFE I’LL EVEN GIVE YOU A FOOT RUB A BACK RUB AND LEARN TO LOVE ZOE ANYTHING BUT THAT NNNNNNOOOOOO….

Seriously guys, we need an immediate intervention. THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN. I’m about to book an emergency flight to France, to barricade him in his office until he promises to never again even entertain the notion of… this. Who’s with me?

Some “Bleeding Rose” Universe Headcanon that for some reason I wanna voice right now….

Character headcanon and tidbits for my story:

Serial Designation - J

As I’ve mentioned before, she fell in love with V back in the manor when it was just the two

After N came around and caught V’s attention, J’s resentment of him developed, this being the reason she’s so hard on him most of the time

Awhile ago, Tessa asked her if she wanted to be recalled for Mentoring other Disassembly Rookies, but because of her lack of patience even in “parental mode”, that idea was thrown out

A little idea that may or may not be kept: J might not have been switched out of parental mode…

J was one of Tessa’s first to be saved, the scenario was she accidentally disrespected Tessa’s father and toddler Tessa visited her while chained up outside, beginning their bond

I do boat with the headcanon that J likes plushies

J is an absolute mess when V flirts with her, while trying to assert her authority, she just kinda stands there😂

Being that J’s the oldest, she was made squad leader, and later the Flock Alpha (Doggyverse stuff) Only answering to Tessa as her higher up and is incredibly loyal to her, which may or may not cause some problems, hhhhhhmmmmmmm-

Serial Designation - V

During their time in the manor, she did in fact have…some feeling towards J, but after spending more and more time with N, when she learned she what love was, $hit hit the fan(Thanks Cyn😒)

Originally, she used her Boss’s “affection” for her own benefits, later actually falling for her

The two were always seen together as unlike poor N, they had each other to combat loneliness

V had also had experience with mentoring rookies, quickly being pulled from the program for her disobedience and violent tendencies

Being that she can be pretty reckless, she’s always a bit embarrassed when J fusses over her, that (for now) being J’s only leverage over V

V is very weary of Tessa and her intentions, doesn’t fully trust her but still respect and registers her authority

V is the menace of society, B being called her spawn😂😈

Serial Designation - N

N is pretty good at finding things and scavenging, that’s basically the girls only use for him, sending him off to gather supplies

He also likes drawing, as seen in canon, collecting shiny things, and he’ll go nuts over them (All DD’s have a thing for shiny stuff, just J and V repress it significantly better then N)

He’ll gift shiny objects and drawings to Uzi on a regular( A sign of affection)

He’s definitely a bit more weary with his family around Tessa, not as much as V but still

Is basically the Manny of the flock

Once the kids are around(hint hint nudge nudge), he normally doesn’t go psycho unless to protect them

Like the girls, at some point he was used as a mentor and switched into parental mode, was actively never switched out, explaining his feelings and behavior towards B

B also kinda reminds him of Cyn

Miscellaneous Stuff

Uzi is only ever called to babysit if N isn’t available, J doesn’t trust her as far as she could throw her, which we learn is pretty far)

B tends to remind Tessa of Cyn, so she scares her a bit, especially with her V’s inherent aggression and certain events that happen (again, hint hint nudge nudge 🤐)

Thad and Lizzy are slated to be married(marked for angst, you’ll see and so God help me if they are in fact canonical related, Please forgive me🤢)

Don't worry, Dizzy is in fact and will be made canon in this series, just not for a while in universe….

Doll can’t see herself as part of the colony anymore in the future, ends up self exiling and wanders around

Uzi could care less for “J’s brat” but still is willing to take care of her and keep her safe

Khan gets better as a parental unit, just never with Uzi

Tessa knows B and V have some trust issues with her, but being that she still deeply cares for them and they respect her (to her face) she lets it slide

Disassembly Drones are slated to “Migrate” for newer territories and to later let the land heal

Being that SD-B can’t fly, she’s a fast runner and high jumper, which later becomes her fighting style

Tbh I think you are the only white loustat fan Ive seen here who is actually interested in louis as a character and not just an extension of lestat? Once you realize most of the fandom only sees louis as part of lestat's story it makes sense why there's little to no loumand content.

Let me talk about Louis. Let. Me. Talk. About. Louis.

I have been a Louis fan since I read Interview for the first time. I was....15 (?), maybe 16, and had finally convinced myself I could read Iwtv. (For those that don't know, Iwtv has been part of my life since I was born; I was named after Kirsten Dunst in the movie (my parents were raging Tom Cruise fans in the '90s, this is how that all happened) and so my whole life was 'being named from some vampire movie.' Problem? I hated blood growing up; couldn't look at it on a screen, couldn't think about it, made me nauseous. So as cool as vampires were, it took me time to read and watch it because 🤢).

Anyway.

So I read Interview, and I don't just read it, I devour it. I was obsessed. My mom had me on a book-buying ban so I couldn't buy anymore of the series, so I just reread Interview over and over again.

2-3 years later, I'm in college and have a little bit of money of my own, and I buy TVL and QotD. And -- and it took me forever to read TVL. It wasn't anything against Lestat necessarily, but 1) anyone that has read these books knows it's kind of like whiplash when you go to TVL and Lestat's narration is...well, Lestat lol and 2) I had fallen in love, long ago, with Louis' way of speaking.

But I eventually power through (and I love TVL. Arguably the best book of the series (???)). But then. Then I start getting into TotBT. And it's great! Lestat and Louis have some amazing moments and I adored so many parts of it, and it may be the general funniest book of the series. But also David is introduced and I could feel myself worrying.

Anyway, to make my relationship with book-Louis shorter, I struggled tremendously to read the rest of the series. Louis started getting mentioned less and less and less, and it became obvious for a time that he and Lestat were just. On different paths, as it seemed, and wouldn't really cross again and I was heartbroken and devastated. I missed Louis. I missed his outlooks and the way he and Lestat spoke to one another and his beauty and the way Lestat talked about him. The final "trilogy" of Prince Lestat was a godsend for me, personally, because it brought Louis back, it brought Louis and Lestat back, and it felt better, felt complete.

But! Show Louis.

So I followed the production of IwtV religiously for a while. Anne sold rights in 2016 and it seemed like it was happening! Then there was nothing for some time. I remember a vague 2019 article about it and, at that point, I was just in the "I'll believe it when I see it" category.

All of a sudden, it's happening before I even know it. And casting is announced. And I was -- so hesitant at both Sam and Jacob's casting. Sam because Lestat is such a character that I really was just like, "Can this man embody Lestat in the way Lestat should exist in this world?" (The answer is a resounding yes, x336548483929299485577838291038475747372272884) and with Jacob, I hadn't known of the time change yet and I was like....what are y'all doing?

Then I learned of the time change and I got nervous all over again because change is, y'know, sometimes scary when you know things. And Louis is everything to me and I was like, "Please do justice by him."

Oh. My. God.

There are a couple of things to mention here, namely the writing and Jacob's acting.

When it comes to the writing, I want to kiss anyone and everyone involved in developing Louis' story the way they did. Everything -- from his profession to his relationship with Paul and religion and sexuality and his mother and Grace and just -- everything, is so nuanced and beautiful and complex and having multiple episodes that showcase what all Louis really went through (both before and after being a vampire) and what he lost through all of it is just stunning. And it's one of those things that Louis' race, in particular, has made him such a better character because of what his struggles bring to the table. He is a queer black man, something that is not shown a ton in media, and he is a queer black man born into Jim Crow America, making a name for himself in a world that doesn't want him to succeed in any capacity. And he pushes and works because he's doing what's best by his family, even if they don't see it that way sometimes, and he endures because it's the only way to survive, and when vampirism comes in this box of a beautiful man promising him the world, he takes it, and yet he still tries to do good by his name, he still tries to be what he considers to be morally good. And he may be misguided on what good is, and he may be doing the wrong thing sometimes, but he is always trying. And I just think he's beautiful; both physically and emotionally beautiful.

I've found myself thinking so long and so hard on Louis' past; what his dad may have been like, what it was like being the oldest sibling and knowing he was one of the only ones that truly saw Paul and loved him, knowing that he could never be himself because queer and black and godly don't go together and just ! What was the Pointe du Lac household like when Louis started working in Storyville? What exact experiences, beyond Jonah, did Louis have with men? How many were good, were bad, were scary perhaps? Did he ever come close to an actual relationship or was he too busy saving his family and trying not to disappoint a god that wasn't there for him? What was it like when Paul was in the hospital in Jackson? Did Louis go see him and read to him, like when they were kids? And now, in Louis' vampirism, how is he going to come to terms with his blood drinking? How exactly to we go from, what we can imagine to be, absolute suicidal devastation and emptiness after losing Claudia to the flirty enigmatic boy at the bar in the 1970s flashback? When will 2022!Louis fully break, and show us that LDPDL is still very much in there and full of that specific fight that drew Lestat to him in the first place?

And JACOB. I could never have asked for a better person to play Louis. He brings everything anyone could want to the table. He's Louis' beauty, he's Louis' quiet rage, he's Louis' tenderness, he's Louis' bookishness, he's Louis' love, he's Louis in every possible way. He brings such a complexity to Louis and, most importantly, he brings him to life. I cannot think of Louis now in any other capacity than Jacob Anderson. I am so grateful for him and for the work he's put in and the way his entire heart is in this role.

So, yes. I love Louis. I love Louis as a character all on his own because he's, quite literally, everything to me.

the pacing felt rushed, the message was shoved into your face, a cool action scene, and the whole evil plan just felt disappointingly flat.

it really could have been better. im pretty sure if i did some research id find that this movie went through production hell or something it just reeks of it.

mai was a bit confusing as a character too, not just because of the whole "i hate robots but this one robot can destroy other robots so thats cool". she just felt... lacking. which could have worked but it didn't. it seemed like they wanted to do a bunch of things with her character but couldnt choose so just went all sorts of directions.

ani, oh sweet ani. you could have been a great lgbt love interest but instead you got 2 seconds of screentime :,( i am so upset that they didnt do anything with her. the queerbait is strong with this one.

greenwood. the bully. who got a redemption arc that was more like an angle. she couldve been interesting but they werent interested. so shes just- bad guy. good guy. done.

I'm thinking about the wasted potential that is aroace Leo Valdez

Like there's the simple fact that entering a relationship was just. Very poor writing in terms of themes. The whole 'third wheel' thing could have turned into important commentary on friendship and establishing non-romantic relationships, as well as the pressure to conform in terms if him being a flirt despite it never being quite genuine (though we all know that wasn't smth rr was going to deconstruct, since it really just served as a racist stereotype of latino men). Additionally when he does things for people it is never out of romantic intent. He helps Echo because he is kind and sympathises with her (as well as for Quest Purposes) he is kind to Piper because she's his friend etc

Plus the thematic implications of a character feeling like a left out third wheel resolving that character arch by entering a relationship is quite dubious when included in a book for developing children learning how to establish relationships (of all kinds) and facing pressure to conform. It could have been a chance to make a statement on the importance of establishing genuine bonds with multiple people, healthy romantic relationships for teenagers (because those are fundamentally different from adult relationships), and that it is okay to be single and have a support network compromised if friends rather than a partner

Plus it would avoid literally everything with Calypso. (I find it incredibly alarming that rr has MULTIPLE examples if thousand-smth year old adults dating Teens under the justification that while they may have been alive that long they are 'mentally' teens(🤢) which reinforces the while bullshit mental age theory thing and unintentionally supports the bullshit idea of maturity over actual age and experience. An adult that acts like a teen and possibly sees themselves as one is still an adult fantasy setting or no. I know almost nothing abt Calypso and am frankly not invested in her character arch and it does a diservice to her character to make it rely on two teenage boys. Plus the potential parallel she could have had with Leo on how a heteronormative and misogynist society can effect people with their opposite coping strategies (Calypso had become straight up hostile towards the idea if love since she had been forced into a system that relied on her feeling toward men designed simply to punish her indefinitely. Because the best way to punish a woman for being dissatisfied with her situation is to exploit her emotions 🤡. And Leo's hyperfocuse on relationships and getting a date and comforming where Calypso attempted to refuse to participate. Neither one of those works tho because emotions are nit controlled by your opinion on society. Society can hurt you and punish you for loving but your heart will love regardless. You can try to force yourself to fit in and date and fall in love but emotions don't care about conformity, and that is not a healthy ground for relationships.)

Kinda weird question, but do you think that if Narusaku was canon SNS, SS and NH shippers would have the same, let's say "alliance", that some SNS and NS have? Like when some SNS or NS shippers say that if anything the other one should've been canon, like I know is a weird question but is just curiosity specially because I remembered you said that there was a time when you saw NS as a straight alternative, even though you don't see it that way anymore. Okay, I don’t know if I can articulate my points well, but I’ll try. 

I agree that there is this ‘weird alliance’ between SNS and NS because NS hate Sasuke coming in between their Ship.... And they go to any extent to prove that Sasuke never loved Sakura.... Which means they are totally Anti-SS....

And to be honest.... NS writers(writer) makes better explanation about Sasuke’s feelings than SNS writers... But when it’s come to Naruto though, they stick with ‘Brother’ route... They always say that Sakura was Naruto’s Love of his Life... And I was like, ‘Man!!!! If you can dissect and analyze Sasuke’s feelings so well which was very difficult to interpret for many people... How could you not see Naruto’s feelings???’

My point is.... I see some great Arguments regarding Sasuke, being produced from their Fandom which makes absolute sense... Atleast their views are reasonable. Same with SK too. At the end of the day, I gained some knowledge from these Fandoms...

FYI, Rather than SNS and NS having an alliance.... NS and SK are the real allied partners who would go to Heaven and Hell together....

But man.... SS and NH are the one and only Fandom in this Entire Planet Earth whose Brains were wired up in a way where their delusional thoughts surpassed the size of the Galaxy.... Seriously!!!!

I know exactly how you feel, is the first time I’m not looking forward to watching the episode, haven’t watch it yet, i feel like DS video about “some” disrespectful messages was very manipulative and aimed to silence mostly the queer community and their very very valid opinions.

I honestly haven’t seen any disrespectful or hateful takes, only constructive criticism.

Obviously it was a PR move, let the most beloved characters address the issue and make it looks like there are only offensive ppl out there, I do believe some ppl crosses the line and I believe it may be hurtful especially for Danielle, that is usually very open to fans also about her private life, so people need to chill for sure, but this happens to every fandom.

But I feel cheated, also by the writers, not only about their inconsistency but also their disgusting choice for a donor, the way they delivered this story, a lot of nonsense, misrepresentation, insulting jokes and so on…

We know Jack ain’t gonna be only the “fun uncle” they prob gonna insert him in every aspect of Marina and the baby life, they are prob gonna give them a boy so they’ll have to ask uncle Jack for advice (no thank you🤢) or even worst help Carina during pregnancy and the birth of the baby, basically taking control and space on Marina relationships, thing that is already happening.

Here we are again Jack hijacking relationship, the most boring and annoying character that apparently can have his on story or growth…

The things that I find most annoying and hurtful are:

-The fact that apparently is bad for Maya to be a firefighter and be scared to leave Carina and the baby alone but for Jack to be one is totally fine

-The fact that Jack fcked every women he knows all while they were in a relationship or superior at work, this is not a good guy, he use women weakness to get laid, he has no morals, no balls, he wants to be neede no matter want, never say no never apologize.

-Jack has no medical history, suddenly Dr. DeLuca doesn’t care about it, right!!!

-They didn’t even talk about other options they went straight (lol) to Jack just because of Drama effect, trying from the beginning of season 5 to make him look like a hero, Carina best friend, her confident, and they forced their awkward friendship on us (Grey acting is very questionable and for me it ruins the scenes)

-Jack sperm has more screen time and character development of Marina, Jack has more screen time with Carina than Maya

-They are forcing and manipulating us to like him and use shared childhood trauma with Carina to do so..this is to me also offensive toward real life victims as myself, using this powerful and triggering storyline to push them as friends.

It’s offensive in so many way but I’ll stop here

Now suddenly after Danielle Video and continuous tweets about Carina and Jack friendship and love, people seems ok accepting this storyline, PR of Station19 has won, and achieved exactly what hat they wanted, guilt tripping us, and make sure to shut us up, we can’t say anything gay apparently.

It feels like I lost something and I have this sadness towards the way these people think they are actually doing good representation while is actually very triggered and hurtful

I don’t know, for me S19 is over no even Marina crumbs will help, also I know they are gonna keep inserting men in every women storyline and they finally made a cheater and break upper of queer women the good guy…

I still think it’s disgusting no matter what the say or do.

If ppl can still find joy on S19, I’m happy for them, but this bitter taste of manipulation bullying and nasty jokes about women relationships will never go away!

I saw that a handful of us were still upset and wanted to put a message out so we could commiserate with each other - to mourn what seemed like the ending of a beloved story and/or characters. Everyone engages with media differently. There is no shame in feeling too much. Or to feel whatever you feel. I was just rambling out loud as I let my dark, emo & dramatic side take over. To feel fully. Then perhaps it’s easier to let go. Then my lighter, rational twin can see it with detachment.   

It does not matter - it is fiction, drama, entertainment. There are other more important things in life. It also matters a lot. If you love it a lot. If it strikes a chord. It is also onscreen representation of real people. Pop culture informs and shifts perception cos we only have one set of experiences lived thru one set of eyes.

Everyone wants to be seen. 

DS wants to bring the story of her beautiful act of love to screen. She wants to spread the idea of the possibility of a different kind of family. She wants to do so thru’ the character she is passionately playing. 

But the writers’ adaptation was built on a faulty premise. They took a realistic experience and forced it into an unrealistic fictional frame. Also, the chemistry of DS & SS translates very well onto Marina. (I think they wanted to bank on their popularity to pull this off - w/o DS & SS, many probably wouldn’t have started watching or would have abandoned the show long ago.) But with GD, their camaraderie does not translate well to their character dynamics.

Whether the writers were queer was less important than if they were masterful and respectful. Even if they must make a choice they knew wouldn’t go well with the very people they were trying to represent, the least they could do was to do it respectfully. Instead, they made light of the whole situation - using cheap humour to cover up plot inadequacies. 

Without a solid foundation of congruent story flow and properly resolved plots, they cobbled together bits and pieces that didn’t fit. To me, it felt disingenuous to quickly address the cheating plot with an apology and dropped a few lines after a time jump, only to bring it back up clumsily in service of the donor plot - and in the process destroying the integrity of the characters.

They knowingly made the donor choice to maximise drama potential. The damage control seemed to be built into the season & episode structures and schedule of release of bts material. They might not have fully comprehended the repercussions before airing and things got out of hand (though the social media blow up could very well be part of the plan). 

The reasonable majority of fans expressing legitimate concerns respectfully was dismissed, and felt their lived experiences invalidated. The minority who was very invested felt deeply offended and chose to express their thoughts rudely, crossing a line. The ones involved in the storytelling felt their intentions and efforts unappreciated and unjustly criticised. 

Failure of communication. Nobody was listening. Hurt feelings all around. 

“Assume incompetence not malice” - I think applying this to the situation makes me feel better. Good intentions, bad outcomes.

At the end of the day, ABC is an entertainment company, with viewership as its bottomline. One can give it credit for its efforts at representation. We can see the diversity in casting and telling of stories of different races, genders, sexual orientations etc. 

But within these bolder choices, we do still see stereotypes and the cycling of overused tropes. Nuances are very often lost too, especially in attempts to maximise drama.

We’ve come a long way; but we still have a long way to go. Perhaps in future, such tropes will be seen more universally as distasteful and absurd.

I read an idea on twitter about the 1x19 caps of the shooting script: that by then Kate and Lucy are talking but when Lucy sees the kahuna, she realizes she can’t truly trust Kate and then she ends it with Kate for good. 😰 *please don’t let this be true. My little shipper heart hurts enough*

Okay okay I'm not on twitter and I feel like this 1x19 stuff was/is very much a twitter thing so like...I don't really know what to think about the kahuna situation (btw for others who may be in my boat: I had to look it up and a kahuna is a Hawaiian shaman).

Buttttt if Lucy is visiting a kahuna that late in the season I don't think it'll be bad news for Kacy...tbh like Lucy /has/ already ended things with Kate for good lolol. I say that lightly because the worst has, in some ways, happened and yet I /do/ still think kacy is end game. I actually really think that they're going to be at least tentatively back together at the end of the season. Like, maybe not where they were in the first few mins of 1x11, but still. I suspect that if Lucy goes to see this kahuna and they give her some kind of reading, it'll either be pushing her toward Kate or it'll be ambiguous but she will be in a place where she wants to be with Kate so she'll interpret it as a push toward Kate.

As for your question of how long apart is too long...I don't know except to say that we're not there yet! To me it seems like Whistler is on track to become a much larger part of the team...I don't really watch NA but I do keep tabs on #leyren (cuz I love wlw and I love desi rep and the two combined are my kryptonite). I feel like the problem there (again, as someone who very much does not watch this show) is that Leyla isn't fully her own character? Like she's had some character development but mostly just in relation to Lauren? But I think Kate is shaping up to be very much her own character which means lots more screen time for her which in turn means more scenes with her and Lucy.

Oh Jin Guanshan’s death scene 100%. Because I was just… so caught off-guard. In like ONE OF THE FIRST CHAPTERS the death of jgs is brought up by wwx. And it’s like an afterthought. Haha the great former clan leader of the jins died in bed lmao. Everyone knows he sleeps around too much and got a little adventurous with some ladies in bed. Poor guy couldn’t handle it so we’ll pretend he just died for health reasons. And then. And then 🤢…. We learn the truth. He really did die in a bed with many ladies… It was just a lot crueler than I could have ever imagined... It’s like I hate the guy but damn.

Jiang Yanli!!!! My beloved shijie 💖💖💖 She’s so wonderful and understanding! She may not be powerful but when she stood up for wwx at the Phoenix mountain and demanded jin zixun to apologize to her brother for calling him a servant. That moment moved my heart 🥺

I feel like saying Wei Wuxian would be too easy so I’m going to choose someone else. Jin Ling. That boy… is so much like Jiang Cheng. He hates Wei Wuxian so much at the start of the series despite never meeting the man. His actions alone are enough. So when he gets to KNOW wwx, under the disguise of Mo Xuanyu, he starts to soften. They help each other out. They’re family and yet they haven’t really talked like this before. And then it all goes to hell and it is revealed that ‘Mo Xuanyu’ was Wei Wuxian all along. The one who ruined his life and stole his parents away. Jin Ling must avenge them and so he does. He stabs Wei Wuxian in the same place Jiang Cheng did. But somehow. They do not remain in this fractured state. UGH jl may be like jc but he’s like his mother and father too. And in a way he reminds me of wwx (especially in that scene where he’s on the boat and doesn’t know who to blame anymore). That boy learns to forgive even though he could’ve held onto his grudges. He’s a wonderful boy and I know he’ll be a great leader, beloved by many in the future.

no i totally get that. i sometimes miss being in the office working and seeing everyone. but it sounds like a massive pain tbh bc the only people in the office are people that cannot work from home. Either they have no Internet or it's impossible for them but every time someone tests positive, everyone gets sent home. They close the building down for 14 days but those people who can't work from home? They can't really do anything but sit around. Plus with the omicron, they straight up will not allow anyone into the office UNLESS you have a good enough reason to not work from home. So whether I like it or not, I'm working from home.
