The Formerly-Dead X-Men (consisting of Frenzy, Cannonball, Jubilee, Dazzler and Prodigy) land into a timeline where it was it had the worst kind of robot attack by the Ultrons - both regular-size and giant-size like Sentinels. Frenzy notes that Prodigy must be in agony being around all these minds but though he doesn't know why he feels fine and his powers are completely under control. It's possible the shard in his chest is alleviating the symptoms of his unlocked powers. Jubilee is like that's reassuring and super ominous at the same time. They are almost crushed by the foot of an Ultron-Sentinel but Frenzy and Sam work together to take it out. Prodigy absorbed so much from Cyborg-Moira that he's not sure what timeline they're in so he runs towards a newsstand. He learns from a newspaper that Simon Trask was killed and immediately knows where/when they are. Even though AU Moira MacTaggert did kill the AU Trask family in the timeline, it did not stop anyone from producing mutant-hunting robots.
Then, the group hear the mental voice that sounded like a distress call and Jubilee notes that it wasn't Rachel Summers, it was someone else. The Formerly-Dead X-Men find that the person responsible for the mental distress call was AU Emma Frost. They find this reality's Emma, bloodied and holding one of her students who is unconscious (or dead). Emma starts to collapse and Jubilee breaks her fall, holding her. She asks Emma what happened who is starting to turn diamond for the first time. She's weak and doesn't recognize them. Prodigy says the only impressions he's picking up from her are of the Massachusetts Academy. Jubilee tends to her and asks her what they're up against. Dazzler is concerned they're already changing too much of the timeline by intervening. Emma says she'll show them what has happened.
They find out that AU Emma was present in the meeting with AU Henry Gyrich and AU Hank Pym discussing about the human-and-mutant relations which had gotten worse since the assassination of Trask family. AU Hank Pym wasn't sure about using Ultron as a new forms of Sentinels. AU Emma was against the idea while Henry Gyrich the mutant hater has vouched for the Ultron-Sentinel idea. Unfortunately, the meeting is cut short when Cyborg-Moira appears out of nowhere to kill Henry Gyrich and this prompts the Ultron-Sentinels to attack anyone in its path. The Formerly-Dead X-Men recognize her from AU Emma's telepathic projection but don't understand how she got to this timeline. Frenzy asks Prodigy to scan his mind to see if this happened before in any of Moira's lives and he sadly says no, that Cyborg-Moira just changed everything and he feels it's all their fault for changing the path to begin with. Jubilee cries as AU Emma dies in her arms. The Formerly-Dead X-Men vow that they must find Moira MacTaggert and stop her at all costs.

The Uncanny X-Men #142 - Mind out of Time!
In the Senate building it’s X-Men VS Brotherhood and there’s fire, teleporting, stuff blowing up, lots of adamantium, and a big whirlwind/tornado-looking thing.
Angel flies Kitty/Kate away from the battle.
Moira asks Charles what’s going on and Charles knows that the future Kate Pryde is in Kitty’s mind - she’s telling the truth about the future. A police officer arrives to escort Charles and Moira away from the Senate. But it isn’t a police officer! It’s Mystique! Mystique sprays the Professor and Moira with nerve gas and they’re both unconscious. Mystique decides to keep Charles as a hostage. She asks Destiny how the future looks, but Destiny says there is an anomaly in the time stream and she is unable to see far into the future.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, back in 2013...
Wolverine, Storm, Colossus (carrying Kate Pryde), and Rachel avoid a group of Sentinels. Wolverine and Storm decide to attack the Sentinels’ main headquarters, the Baxter Building (anyone out there familiar with that building?!). Storm hits a Sentinel guarding the building with a bolt of lightning. Rachel remains behind to protect Kate while Wolverine, Storm, and Colossus enter the building. They all wonder what’s taking Kate so long in the past, and they realize that their present may not change at all and Kate may only create a new alternate timeline for everyone in the past...
Back in 1980...
The X-Men/Brotherhood battle rages on in the Senate building. Well... not IN the building for long because Storm creates hurricane force winds and blows everyone outside. The battle continues and soon the US Army joins in. Not knowing who is good and who is bad, they fire at everyone, hitting Colossus right in the chest. The Army uses flamethrowers which is a huge mistake because Pyro uses the flames to create two huge fire monsters that join the fight. Colossus and Wolverine successfully knock out the Blob, Storm creates a huge monsoon to put out Pyro’s fires, and Nightcrawler punches... himself? Oh, it’s Mystique.
Nightcrawler is surprised that he and Mystique have blue skin and look so similar. Mystique calls Nightcrawler by his full name, Kurt Wagner, and says that he is not as unique as he once thought. Nightcrawler asks how she knows his name, and Mystique tells him to ask his mother about that.
Mystique flees the scene. The Army has the Blob, Pyro, and Avalanche in custody (for now). The X-Men decide to get find Charles and Moira and leave as well when they suddenly realize Kate and Destiny are missing!
In 2013...
Wolverine, Storm, and Colossus reach the top of the Baxter Building and find one of the lead Sentinels at a computer. Colossus throws Wolverine to the Sentinel’s head, but the Sentinel turns around quickly and blasts Wolverine with some fire from his hands, leaving only an adamantium skeleton on the floor. Wolverine is gone.
Tumblr media
Storm flies into the air and hits the Sentinel with a lightning strike. More Sentinels show up. Storm is hit with a sharp javelin through her stomach, and she is dead. Colossus is furious and punches a Sentinel right out of the building.
On the street below, Sentinels approach Rachel and Kate and all seems lost...
In 1980...
Destiny has cornered Senator Kelly, pointing a crossbow at him. Kelly warns her that his death will not accomplish anything except make the public fear mutants. Destiny doesn't care. She fires the crossbow, but at the exact same time, Kate phases through Destiny’s body, causing Destiny’s aim to be off. Kelly is alive, the crossbow bolt lodging itself into the wall behind him.
Suddenly Kate’s reality twists inside out and she’s just Kitty again as Kate returns to her own time stream. Storm arrives and picks up Kitty. Kitty can’t remember anything since blacking out in the Danger Room (see issue #141). Kelly asks who the young girl is, and Storm says it’s the young girl who just saved his life. She says that Kelly would do well to remember that before condemning all mutants. Charles and Moira arrive, and they’re ok. The whole team leaves on Angel’s private plane.
Angel asks if they succeeded in changing the future, and the Professor does not know, saying only time will tell...
Tumblr media
EPILOGUE:
Senator Kelly and Sebastian Shaw (for more on THAT relationship, see issue #135) meet with the President in the White House. They discuss developing an operation called “Project Wideawake” where Shaw Industries will develop a new series of Sentinels that will deal with mutants. The project will be led by another man in the room, Henry Gyrich...

I recently got into X-Men comics via the Krakoa era. Ive been really liking the New Mutants and want to try their original series. Is it a good idea to jump straight into that run, or is it a better idea to read some of the Claremont X-Men run for context first?
The correct jumping-on point for the New Mutants is Marvel Graphic Novel #4, The New Mutants, which is a great 50-page introduction to the premise (Professor X recruits a new class of students to the Xavier School) and the cast of characters (Rahne Sinclair, Roberto da Costa, Sam Guthrie, Dani Moonstar, and Xuân Cao Mạnh - future main characters like Doug Ramsey and Ilyana Rasputina will be introduced later) and their backstories.
Tumblr media
From there, you can jump straight into the first issue of the ongoing title by Chris Claremont and then later Louise Simonson. Really, the only thing you need to know about the X-Men for context is that Professor X and Moira MacTaggart are the good guys and the Hellfire Club are the bad guys.
One of the great things about the X-line during the Claremont run is that a combination of the unprecedented level of editorial and creative coordination and Jim Shooter's diktat that "every issue is someone's first" is that they're very good at doing economical world-building. Thus, when you need to learn who Sebastian Shaw or Emma Frost or Henry Peter Gyrich are and how the X-Men relate to the New Mutants, the books will tell you everything you need to know quite succinctly.

Could the Scarlet Spider (either/or) kill Macbeth. Along the same lines, could Peter Parker after he was reborn by the Other kill Macbeth
((From what I've found, there are actually SEVERAL characters that go by the alias of "Scarlet Spider," and I'm not sure which you would like me to cover exactly, so I'm just going to do them all rapid-fire, okay? Okay.))
Yes, Benjamin "Ben" Reilly AKA Scarlet Spider from the Spider-Man comics could kill Macbeth! He applies for both the Unconventional Birth Clause and the Birth Parent Clause due to being a human clone of Peter Parker created by Miles Warren AKA The Jackal.
Yes, Kaine Parker AKA Scarlet Spider form the Spider-Man comics could kill Macbeth! He also applies for both the Unconventional Birth Clause and the Birth Parent Clause due to being a human clone of Peter Parker created by Miles Warren AKA The Jackal.
Yes, Michael, Van, and Patrick (Team name "Red Team"/"Scarlet Spiders") from the Spider-Man comics could kill Macbeth! They all apply for the Unconventional Birth Clause and potentially the Birth Parent Clause, due to all three of them being human clones of Michael Van Patrick ("MVP") with their creation being ordered by Henry Peter Gyrich in order to keep MVP's death a secret from the public.
No, Joseph "Joe" Wade AKA Scarlet Spider from the Spider-Man comics could not kill Macbeth. Though his mind and body were drastically altered when in the persona of the Scarlet Spider due to a confrontation between Doctor Octopus and Ben Reilly (also called Scarlet Spider), all of Wade's transformations were able to be reversed medically, meaning this state was an affliction rather than the creation of a new entity.
Yes, Felicity Hardy AKA Scarlet Spider from the Spider-Man comics could kill Macbeth! Though she only used the title temporarily, she still applies under the Gender Clause.
Tumblr media
As for Peter-post-Other, resurrection is a difficult subject to handle in the case of a character's ability to kill Macbeth. Personally, I am of the belief that if a character's consciousness/soul is kept the same across the old body and the new, it would not count as a separate person and therefore would apply for the same clauses as they did before death. But there are arguments for the other side as well! So I'd say that we'll be keeping Post-Other Peter Parker uncategorized for now.
Thank you for your submission!

I'm working on my Avengers fanfic and I just found a place to fit in Henry Peter Gyrich, and I'm so excited. I hate this character so much, he's the most annoying obstructive bureaucrat there is and he's going to be so much fun to write.

What If? Vol. 2 #3
What if Steve Rogers refused to give up being Captain America?
Okay that’s non-specific if you don’t know your Captains America.
A government commission on superheroes brought Cap in and declared that since the Captain America name and outfit were made by the government, they owned it. They owned him. And they wanted Cap taking orders directly from the government.
Cap refused to play ball and surrendered the outfit, the shield, and the codename and started going by the Captain instead.
The government made John Walker Captain America and he did a really bad job. Not helped by Red Skull having engineered the whole thing to tarnish Captain America’s reputation by replacing him with Some Jerk.
Steve confronted a spiraling John Walker and took over being Captain America again and the government put John Walker in a variant of the Captain outfit, making him US Agent. And a pain in the ass for the West Coast Avengers.
This What If? story instead has Steve refuse to surrender the Captain America name. In response, the commission tells all the soldiers in the Pentagon that Cap is actually a commie impersonator and to shoot him please.
A bit of an overreaction. But maybe not unrealistic.
I don’t know why “Featuring: Freedom Force!” is so prominent on the cover. They do feature in one scene, where they hassle the Avengers, trying to find where Cap is. But that’s it.
Were they so popular that they deserved this much hype?
The government gets Taskmaster to train Super-Patriot John Walker and some dudes with B’s on their cowls to hunt down Cap.
But they don’t have to try very hard because Captain America has Rick Jones organize a rally so he can argue his position to the American people.
Obviously, Super-Patriot shows up to punch Cap and friends a lot.
But then a Reagan ex machina happens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
President Reagan just shows up and presidential pardons Steve and declares he can be an independent Captain America while Super-Patriot will be the government’s personal patriotic mascot.
So we end up basically where we would have? Steve Rogers gets to be Captain America, John Walker works for the government.
Well, no.
Remember how Red Skull was manipulating this from behind the scenes?
He’s livid at Reagan ex machina and orders one of his agents to shoot Cap right then and there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reagan shrugs and asks John Walker to be the new Captain America.
John goes through his same breakdown in the same time span and kills a guy without Steve around to stop him. And like Batman always feared, murder is like potato chips.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The government tried to cover it up but Walker just kept killing until he got fired and arrested.
The Captain America identity got retired and Red Skull laughed his ass off having finally destroyed his nemesis.
My problem with this one is that the most interesting idea here is Steve Rogers dies, he’s not around to stop John Walker. And it happens near the end of the book.
The rest of the book is filled with Cap having an action sequence where he escapes the Pentagon after being branded a commie imposter. Freedom Force hassling the Avengers and Peter Henry Gyrich cracking down on the Avengers too. Cap gathering allies like Falcon, D-Man, Nomad, and Vagabond. A talk show where Reed Richards, Rick Jones, and the president of the VFW speak out in defense of Cap. A brief fight scene at the rally until President Reagan could just show up and resolve everything.
There’s a lot of Stuff that happens to fill the page count that doesn’t really mean anything because Red Skull flips the table.
Complaining that a thing isn’t a different thing is a type of criticism I try not to do. But…
In terms of this What If? and if the endpoint is dead Captain America and John Walker out of control…
The story should have started with Cap being killed in the Pentagon escape. Shot by a normal soldier or killed by Freedom Force since you’re so proud of having them involved for some reason.
Focus the issue on John Walker’s fall. That spree of violence he went on that the government tried to cover up.
Have the allies Cap gathered in this issue instead be the people that stepped up to confront Walker in Steve’s stead.
As it is, What If Steve Rogers had refused to give up being Captain America? manages to hit two different What If? indulgences at the same time.
In spite of a nail, everything ends up roughly following the same events anyway. And everything is worse forever.

New Senator Seeking to Register Mutants
Ben Urich
Staff Reporter
"Less than a week after being elected Senator of New York, Peter Krane tackles a political landmine."
Washington, D.C. - It's Monday, November 14th and outside of the White House in the chilling east coast air, a crowd is gathered around a podium like a pew awaiting a sermon. To the stand comes a newly elected official, winning by an overwhelming vote in their state of New York, and he's ready to address the masses that have flocked to his cause.
Peter Krane (I-NY) made history this past week winning the Senatorial seat in New York for the recently created Friends of Humanity political group, a pro-human platform that has less than a year in existence but decades of experience behind them. The conference held before the people was set to address concerns that many had when Krane was sworn in, and to announce a new legislation getting ready for proposition.
This act, known as the Mutant Registration Act, is the first of it's kind ever presented to the United States government, the topic of metahuman and extraterrestrial life forms has mostly stuck out of the court of man due to the civil issues that have been seen in recent years.
"We're in a trying time," Krane began, "threats descend upon our borders, from the Heavens above us, and even the depths of Hell below us. But most importantly, they come from within our own homes."
The passionate speech was riddled with both cheers and heckles from the crowd, uncertain what to make of the laws. But what is the "Mutant Registration Act" Senator Krane purposes?
According to the Senator, the Act will behave similar in nature to a sex offender registry, individuals possessing the "Xavier Gene," named after Professor Charles Xavier of Harvard, will have to register all legal names, locations of residency, full explanation of their abilities, and all criminal history to the federal government. This information will become public knowledge and be accessible in both digital and physical format.
"Our goal is not to harm or isolate these people, as they are people. However, much like a gun must be registered and the owner is expected to properly maintain it, these people pose real threats and dangers to the world around them."
The Act has not fully hit the House or Senate, but already there has been both praise and outrage in the Legislative branch. Bethany Cabe (D-CT) called the Act "barbarous," stating it violated human rights conventions passed by the United Nations last year, after an incident in Sarkovia. Harrington Ferris (R-TX) also criticized the Act, stating it would allow public violence to take part against those on the registry.
Meanwhile, individuals like Robert Kelly (D-MA), Graydon Creed (R-IA), Henry Peter Gyrich (R-PA), and Geoffrey Patrick (R-IN) all praised the proposition, each saying it was time to begin putting a system of responsibility to those with abilities that could be used without any consequences otherwise. Quote from Senator Creed, "what [Senator Krane] is suggesting is simply a way to defend ourselves against any threats that may arise from the mutant population. It's not discrimination, it's pragmatism."
This is coming off the heels of a riot over a week ago in New York City, where a group of unknown mutants acted a protest by the religious organization Among Purity, causing the group to riot and retaliate, leading to five deaths and twelve injuries. Just a month prior, an unknown mutant attacked the nuclear launch facility at Minot Air Force Base in Ward County, North Dakota.
This is still an ongoing story and we'll have more as it develops.

Action!
Count Nefaria.
It's basically another villain-attacks-hero-HQ story, without much reason to do so, but it's an exciting read nonetheless. Nefaria is very powerful here, and the good guys are well written. There are nice character moments for Simon, Tony, and Steve.
First appearance of Henry Peter Gyrich.
On Sale Date: August 17, 1977.
Jim Shooter (9 of 20).

The framing story for this issue is a letter Ali wrote to her friend O.Z. (maybe he was in her solo series? idk maybe I'll read that someday) back when the X-Men were in San Francisco. She talks about how Logan pushes her and is never satisfied, which pisses her off because a) she never wanted to be a superhero and b) she already was a solo hero. She doesn't see that those are the two reasons Logan does push her so much; he needs to know that her heart's in it and she can work with the team. When she sees a newspaper article that O.Z. is apparently now a werewolf murderer who was arrested in Florida she hops on a plane, refusing any help from her team. Logan follows her anyway, and as soon as the flight lands he finds someone mysterious tailing them. They search for clues and find O.Z.'s dog Cerberus hiding in his impounded truck. They then go break O.Z. out of jail when some assassins show up to kill him. He explains that he was chasing some drug dealer (he's a bounty hunter) with his dog, but the guy had some mutant bodyguard who took him down. The police arrested him and all the bite marks on the drug people from the dog made everyone think O.Z. was a werewolf, which seems like a stretch. Anyway, Logan says he recognizes the description of this mutant bodyguard and he's a Soviet spy, just before Henry Peter Gyrich shows up. He offers to drop charges against all three of them if Logan finds the Russian, who was an undercover agent working for Gyrich until he went rogue. The trio tracks him down, but in the battle Cerberus kills him. Gyrich gets mad but doesn't do anything, and everyone just leaves. We flash to the present to learn that this whole story was actually O.Z.'s flashback as he read Ali's letter in a bar and watched the news report the X-Men's death. This was a weird issue. The timeline and framing were unnecessarily confusing; I think Claremont wanted to do this story earlier but was prevented by the event schedule for Fall of the Mutants. Ali's arc in the book has been about accepting the team as her family, so this story flashes back to the middle of her personal journey, which is a little jarring and makes it fall a little flat. Also, the emotional core of the story only works if you read her solo series, but to be fair I can't blame Claremont for me not having read it. And if he was gonna do this flashback, it shouldn't have been the first issue post Fall, especially with how rushed the ending of the last issue was. That was a lot of complaints; I did like parts of this issue, especially the dynamic between Logan and Ali. The push and pull between them highlights both Logan's strengths and weaknesses as a leader. He understands what Ali needs and what the team needs from her, but he can't get that point across to her without pissing her off. It's why he makes a much better lieutenant than leader.
Our next issue opens in Singapore with an introduction for the book's newest villains, the Reavers. They're a gang of cyborgs who rob a bank and murder a whole buncha people. Claremont has shifted focus a few times in the last few years from one enemy group to another, and it's been an interesting progression. For a while, our biggest villains were Freedom Force, then the Marauders, and now the Reavers. We went from a government run team to a gang of psychos that were still following specific orders with loftier goals in mind and now to the Reavers, who have no greater purpose and just run around hedonistically stealing and murdering. The X-Men's world has been getting darker and more chaotic and their enemies reflect that. The Reavers are based in the Australian outback, where they've enslaved an aboriginal mutant named Gateway who creates portals and never talks. He sends them wherever they want on the planet, and in return they don't destroy his homeland and attack his people. They have a big violent party to celebrate all their new money, and begin to convert a woman they kidnapped into a Reaver by wiping her memory and giving her cyborg parts. But just then, the X-Men show up out of nowhere and attack. Seeing another person having their memory wiped and body tampered with sends Longshot into a rage we've never seen from him, throwing knives into people's eyes. The team, with Ororo back in full power and Peter in a new costume, which is just a speedo, make quick work of the Reavers, although a few escape. Logan and Anna want to execute the rest, but Roma shows up again to give the X-Men another gift- the Siege Perilous, an object that can rewrite someone's life to make them a whole new person. They offer the Reavers a choice between a rebirth or death, and they all choose to enter the Siege Perilous. Roma also fulfills their next request, to send the Reavers' prisoner (I still haven't learned her name) home. Roma tells them that if they ever want a happy ending, the Siege will give them one, and for as long as they choose this life, they'll be undetectable by cameras or magic, to help them keep being ghosts. And then she's gone, leaving the X-Men to their new home. This issue was... okay. I love the outback era, although unlike a lot of people I don't think it's near the best part of the Claremont run, but I don't love the way it starts. After a flashback issue, I was hoping this one would dive into the characters' thoughts on their death and rebirth as phantoms, and on Ororo and Peter's recent reclamations of their powers, but there was a short time jump and almost no inner monologuing. I do like the Reavers, but not as much as the Marauders, so I wish we could have held them off till after Inferno. But it was a solid establishing of the new status quo from an enemy's perspective; the X-Men show up out of nowhere and vanish as quickly as they came, leaving only the whispers of the victims they saved as proof of anything happening. It's very cool and myth-like without losing the ragtag feel of the post-Massacre stories.

The Uncanny X-Men #185 - Public Enemy!
Washington, D.C.
At the Pentagon, Henry Gyrich gives a briefing about Rogue. He describes her abilities (strength, invulnerability, memory/thought/power absorption), and her involvement with the Brotherhood of Mutants and the X-Men. Gyrich says Rogue was involved in erasing the Pentagon's databanks on the X-Men - which was ACTUALLY done by Carol Danvers, see issue #158- and that she killed a SHIELD agent aboard their helicarrier - who was ACTUALLY killed by a Hellfire Club agent who was also aboard the helicarrier (see issue #182). Gyrich says an armorer named Forge has developed a weapon that neutralizes the powers of mutants. Gyrich shows off the weapon.
Raven Darkholme BURSTS into the room and she's furious that Gyrich knows about this top secret project and that he's actually holding the only functioning prototype of the weapon. (Remember everyone, Darkholme is also Mystique.) Dr. Valerie Cooper follows Darkholme into the room and says that Rogue is the perfect test case for the neutralizer weapon. Dr. Cooper says the President wants Rogue neutralized.
Tumblr media
Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters
Storm interrupts a discussion between the Professor and Rachel. She says that Rogue is missing. They go to use Cerebro to try and find her, leaving Rachel alone in the Professor's office. Rachel finds a phone number for Scott Summers and calls it. Scott answers, but Rachel can't speak. Madelyne asks who it is, and Rachel hangs up. Rachel sobs as she says "Daddy! Mom!"
Washington, D.C.
Raven Darkholme enters the secret, sub-level complex of the Pentagon that she uses as the headquarters for her Brotherhood. She shape-shifts into Mystique. Irene, a precog aka Destiny, says Rogue is in danger. Mystique asks Irene what she should do, but Irene says her powers are jumbled, as if the "fabric of time itself has been rent asunder." As Raven Darkholme, she contacts Forge and explains what Dr. Cooper and Gyrich are doing. Forge is furious, takes off in his jet, and calls the President directly.
On a military plane above D.C., Gyrich explains to Dr. Cooper that the Avengers used a device to track Rogue in the past (see Avengers Annual #10) and that this is what they will use to find her too.
Caldecott County, Mississippi
Rogue relaxes by the Mississippi River. Storm approaches and asks to join her. (The Professor must've found Rogue with Cerebro.) They discuss how Rogue discovered her powers when she kissed a boy right at this spot by the river. Rogue says she still can't control her powers and she doesn't know where her loyalties lie - with the X-Men or Mystique's Brotherhood. Rogue says she'll always have to live as two people - herself and Carol Danvers. Storm offers to let Rogue absorb her memories and abilities in order to show Rogue that not every use of her powers must be an act of violence. Storm removes a glove and Rogue takes her hand. Storm collapses as Rogue absorbs her abilities. It's a beautiful moment - Rogue sees the world differently. She feels the sun and the wind and the water more than ever before. She practices using Storm's powers. She likes it. She goes to touch Storm again to absorb more before stopping and asking herself what she's doing.

ZAP!
Rogue is blasted by the neutralizer, but on a low setting. Federal officers approach, saying they have a warrant for Rogue's arrest. Rogue tries to fly away to lead the officers away from Storm, who is still on the ground, but she can't. Rogue realizes she can still control the elements, so she creates a huge hurricane with wind and lightning and she blows away the officers and their vehicles. But Rogue can't control Storm's powers and she accidentally hits a boat on the river and it starts sinking. Rogue feels terrible because there are innocent people on the boat, but there's nothing she can do. Luckily, Storm wakes up and she's able to stop the hurricane. They fly to the boat and pull it to shore with a rope.
In the meantime, Gyrich calibrates the neutralizer weapon for full power, saying it was a mistake to shoot Rogue with the weapon on a low setting. He aims at Rogue again. Forge arrives and tries to tackle Gyrich. But Forge is too late. Gyrich shoots. Storm pushes Rogue out of the way. Storm is hit by the neutralizer!

Storm discharges a huge bolt of lightning and her and Rogue drop into the river. Forge dives in. He finds Storm, but not Rogue. He pulls Storm ashore. He's FURIOUS that Gyrich shot the neutralizer. He says he has striped Storm of her powers and destroyed her. He says the X-Men have always fought for humanity and now Gyrich may have turned them from defenders to enemies.
Looking on are some weird alien creatures that call themselves Dire Wraiths. SHIELD agents had mentioned they were fighting against these Wraiths a couple issues back. The Wraiths say the neutralizer could lead to humanity discovering weaponry that will harm the wraiths and because of that, Forge must die!
