Happy Tech Tuesday!!
These past couple of days I've had the great pleasure to work on @vivaislenska's request!
I thought it was obvious that Tech would, at a certain point, craft himself a diving mask and goggles, and explore Pabu's reefs (because Pabu has reefs, it is canon now) in order to learn about its extensive marine wildlife beyond the screen of his datapad!
His scuba session takes him through a colorful arrange of corals, anemones sponges, fish, and...
"...a Hapalochlaena lunulata rubra!?" Tech excitedly thinks to himself. The odds of finding the harmless red-ringed octopus, cousin of the blue-ringed octopus were minimal, and far beyond Tech's expectations! He would have to dive back to the surface right away to note the date and time to commemorate such a momentous occasion!
But this little cephalopod was not afraid of Tech, and time seemed to freeze as they stared, completely fascinated at each other.
His notes could most certainly wait.
This piece came out fairly naturally and I'm very happy with the result ^^ And even happier to have gotten the ask in the first place. So THANK YOU VIV!! ♥
This sketch is a bit more detailed than what I usually make, so don't mind the taglist ;V;!♥ (and let me know if you'd like to be included!<;3)

Soooo Splatband tumblr, how are we doing?
I’m uh…normal (lying).
Anyways until we get names for these fellas in 82 years I propose to call them…
Luna (after Hapalochlaena lunulata- the scientific name for the Greater blue ringed octopus)
And Gina (after ギンカクラゲ/Ginkakurage which is the Japanese name for the Blue Button Jellyfish which is what I believe they’re based off of!)
But those are just some suggestions from me, just because we had Charlie, Larry, and Vanessa for the C-Side characters for a bit so we might as well do that here but instead of lying like before I’m not saying canon info or anything.

A little birdie told me we’re calling her Luna(based on the scientific name for the blue-ringed octopus, Hapalochlaena lunulata)? So I drew her with my friend’s cat, also named Luna.

I made some octo-babies! I plan to put them on a headband so I can wear them.
The little pink one is Opis (short for Opisthoteuthis californiana, the scientific name for the Flapjack octopus) and the big blue one is Lunu (short for Hapalochlaena lunulata, the scientific name of the Greater blue-ringed octopus).

Blue-ringed octopus, one of the most toxic animals on Earth, bites woman multiple times
‘Blue-ringed octopuses are a group comprising four species: the greater blue-ringed octopus (Hapalochlaena lunulata), the southern blue-ringed octopus (Hapalochlaena maculosa), the blue-lined octopus (Hapalochlaena fasciata) and the common blue-ringed octopus (Hapalochlaena nierstraszi). These octopuses are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and are covered in tiny rings that flash with…

Animal Spotlight - Blue Rings Of Doom!
This week’s animal spotlight is about the Blue-ringed Octopus. The octopods are one of the most venomous things in the ocean and there is no antidote. Also, their bite is almost painless and a lot of people don’t even realise they have been bitten until it is too late.
If you want to learn more about it the link is below :)

Greater Blue-Ringed Octopus | Hapalochlaena lunulata
“The greater blue-ringed octopus is one of several species of blue-ringed octopuses. All are thought to be venomous and for their size, they are the most deadly of all cephalopods. It is said that the venom of this octopus could kill 26 adults in just a few minutes. There is no antivenom for treatment. Fortunately, these octopuses do not attack humans. Injury typically occurs when a blue-ringed octopus is stepped on or picked up.” (Source)

Greater Blue-ringed Octopus
Hapalochlaena lunulata
🔔 The blue rings, which number around 60, are spread throughout the entirety of its skin and are an aposematic adornment to clearly show to all potential predators that the octopus is highly venomous. Their saliva contains a powerful neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin. There is no antivenom.

It is always challenging photographing the blue ringed octopus swimming. The autofocus system always has trouble at night picking up on this micro octopus Blue Ringed Octopus (Hapalochlaena lunulata) The blue rings become intense when aggrevated. Extremely venomous, can be fatal to humans! okinawanaturephotography.com/ Found: Maeda pt, Okinawa, Japan Depth: 25feet on the reef at night Size: Golf ball size Nikon D90 - 105macro
