I saw a post once talking about a bingqiu scott pilgrim au where LBH had to fight all of SQQ's suitors, which is a cool concept and all, but have you considered the comedic potential and insanity of a bingyuan Scott pilgrim au where SY has to defeat LITERALLY HUNDREDS of bingge's exes??

I still don't understand why Crux had to die for the tomb to be opened at the end of NTN. Wasn't the tomb already open? How could it have re-set to need John's blood again?
It sounds like Paul was somehow able to get some of Kiriona's blood despite her impenetrable skin ("Take all of it." "I don't need all of it - but I need to keep it wet..."). And that maybe they only needed "fresh thanergy" because Kiriona (and presumably her blood) is dead. Because Harrow didn't need to kill anybody the first time she went in, right?
But in HTN it's implied that Harrow entered the tomb multiple times and that it took her a while to dismantle the traps in each section. And she presumably didn't have Gideon's blood under her nails every time she went in (hard to say for sure, since the memory recounted to us has been edited to be Certified Griddle-Free). (And anyways, doesn't Pyrrha say in HTN that fresh blood is thalergenic, not thanergenic? So why would Gideon's blood being fresh meet the thanergy requirement?)
So I don't understand why the tomb wasn't just open for our little rescue crew to bust in, and if it had been re-locked, why Crux dying unlocked it. (Or how they got Gideon's blood, really, but for that one I'm willing to just accept the magic of "it happened offscreen.")

terranigma, a cool game
#terranigma#terranigma ark#terranigma elle#terranigma meilin#art tag#im going to write a little review in the tags bear with me#first the negative:#the magic system is weird to use and basically useless apart from one boss thats almost impossible without magic#it has some weird racism like most old games where you travel around the world. a little more egregious since its supposed to be real earth#i found the main character to be slightly insufferable for about 3/4ths of the game. i came around on him by the end tho. he grows up a lot#and i found whats by far the largest section of the game (chapter 3) to be the least interesting#im not really into helping cities develop and trade quests tho so it might just be me#oh also it is STUPID easy to permanently lock yourself out of like 15 sidequests#and theres a lot of mandatory things that are really hard to figure out. you need to use a walkthrough for this#anyway thats what i didnt like#what i DID like tho. i dont want to get into too much detail but#its a genuinely beautiful game for so much of it#there were so many moments that left me speechless#its high-concept and thoughtful and fun to play#you dont really need to do much grinding either#at its worst its obtuse and cliche but at its best its breathtaking#and i really recommend more people check it out#special shoutout to my friend seona who modded my 3DS and downloaded a bunch of roms including this one#so in conclusion. terranigma is an underrated gem. play it if youre a 90s jrpg junkie like me#just have a walkthrough open also lol

So despite my own personal statements regarding my dislike for complex, multiverse like narratives. I am infact like most people, a hypocrite.
So let me talk about my multiverse narrative.
This is a project I started sometime in high school, and it keeps changing every year that I work on it. I think it may be the project where I have done the most overhauls on.
There is no garentee I will not overhaul it entirely again in the future. But that will be then, this is now.
So even though it is a constantly changing project, I will share the oldest remaining a (and most consistent part of this project) Witches.
Witches are rare, shapeshifting beings. Able to transform into many things. Though they all have a unique familiar.
This familiar is what they are named for… ie the wolf witch, the chameleon witch or the cat witch, gryphon witch So on and so forth.
Witches for this setting are not born they are made. Quite purposely mind you. As it would be difficult if not impossible to make a witch without all parties consenting to it.
A consensual deal with the devil per-say.
The reason for this is because of how magic naturally works.
There are three kinds of majics. Major majics, middle magics and minor magics.
Under normal circumstances stances major magics like the kind that witches perform are deadly to most beings so minor magics are instead used
See even with minor magic it is done by cooperating with several people at a time. Usually the safest minimum is three individuals. Two to cast one to keep watch. The safest large amount of individuals is somewhere around twelve as any more and it tends to be a too many cooks in the kitchen ordeal.
Magic can be performed alone, but it is difficult and likely to backfire. Especially with the more magic you are dealing with. Or in other words the closer to major majics one gets.
Crafting with magic is slightly less risky but not as potent when done alone, and there’s several ways to do this sort of crafting… but before I get off track.
Witches are the exception to casting magic on thier own, they can just throw it around whillynilly all they want. This is because of one simple fact:
A witch is never alone.
That is because witches make themselves. when they fuse their bodies and consciousness together with others. This horrific process results in a single individual and an offshoot (the familiar)
This individual, with multiple consciousness, two to cast one to watch. Can perform magic as they wish.
Witches like this draw magic from the worlds around them and from themselves, and that is where this whole multiverse thing comes in.
Magic is everywhere and in everything there is life.
And the majority of witches come from and live in the place where dead universes combined. To be melted together and reused until the end of magic. This place. The place where dreams are made and go to die. As it has always been, and never will be. Is connected to everything. The cosmic ocean if you will. The roots of the world tree. The brackish world. The home of the many gates.
So it’s from here that a witch can fulfill their greatest purpose.
See when a witch create themselves they also creat a magic system (middle majics). A way to easily harness that energy so normally inaccessible to most.
Normally a magic system will be used by the witch themselves.
For example the Chameleon Witch upholds a magic system that relies on color, change the color of a thing and change the way that thing fundamentally interacts with life.
The chameleon witch uses their system when they perform magic.
But others can also buy into a witche’s system. Usually the inhabitants of the brackish worlds may buy into a witches system in order to perform magic in an easier way.
But that’s the less interesting option.
The more interesting system occurs when a real world, floating out in the spiderwebs of the cosmos decided to try magic.
If there is enough magic around (at least a 1.7 on my scale) and individuals start to pull on magic. There is a high chance that instead of pulling on nothing they find a witch’s path that’s already been thread. As it is easier to walk the path already taken than bushwhack a new one.
Some systems are more popular to buy into than others. Like the dragon witches elemental system. Or the black witches deal making system.
A magic planet can buy into multiple systems at a time, usually having them fuse into something unique. But they can stay separate too or expand in ways unknown to the witch themselves until they learn of this new idea.
The old sort of magic the kind that sings universes into being, still exists and could in theory be used by anyone in a world with enough magic to notice the fabric of order and chaos that the witches use to create themselves. But why do that when your system lets you throw fire balls? Or even find the mysteries of the universe in the equally impressive minor magics? (I mean the name is deceptive, this magic can be used to revive the dead, grant wishes and control entire worlds of used in the right place by the right “people”, it’s the magic of gods and “soft magic systems”)
The thing about witches (and magic system as an extension) is that they are mortal. Majic is an immortal force of existence. To exist is to be just a bit of majic.
But witches are mortal and so they can die. And with them the system they upheld dies too. In some cases a similar system belonging to another witch may fill the void, but otherwise the system dies.
The likelihood of a witch dying is slim though. They are mortal, but they are also ageless, as by the rules of the chaos at the ends of existence. Where things like time and scale and gravity don’t behave as they should. From where you can watch the countless ends and existences die and begin again in universes uncountable. As gods and giants and cosmic dragons forge worlds and multiverses of their own volition. And elder things play games and battle over the scraps and threads of thier own universes that they wish to forge into new existences. Doing anything they can to prevent existences from falling into the place that witches live.
Speaking of dragons and elder things: witches follow dragons, because cosmic dragons are especially good at destruction and creation. (Chaos incarnate, along with their siblings who are Order incarnate) So if a witch wishes to place her magic system in a particular place she will give it to a dragon who will go to a world and from there spread life and magic that they carry to that world.
Elder things know, they tend to have lived through the birth and rebirth of several universes. So they are especially good at learning and unknowning. They are usually the ones responsible for changing the ways a system interacts with the world around it.
A Witches counterpart is a Muse, witches write the rules of magic, Muses write the paths of things.

This is the best video on magic systems I've ever watched! It makes a strong argument to what some folks call "soft" magic systems. And look at that thumbnail art, so cute!

link to the 70 page bdsm + autism essay?
Should have expected this ask lol:
https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/196229949.pdf
Edit: 🚨 OH NO THE LINK IS BROKEN OH NO! 🚨 I literally found it googling "autism and adhd" or something like that (or maybe duck duck going). Anyway, I can try to track it down again in a bit. I have it on my computer, but I'm on mobile rn.
EDIT 2: 🎉🎉🎉 I found it 🎉🎉🎉 and also another one. I don't remember if I read the 2nd one but I will have by tomorrow morning. Probably.
I haven't read it all the way through and also am not autistic so I can't fully vouch for it.
[For context: I have a post going around about weird writing research tangents where I mentioned reading someone's masters thesis on autism and bdsm. Turns out, this is a subject that interests people on the Autism and BDSM Webbed Site]

The Runes of Maar
Since @innerchorus had asked about more details of the rune system in Maar and I wanted to do a post about it, I have decided to, well, make a post about it lol.
Warning: long post
First, let me give you a general, alphabetic list of all the runes that are used in Maar.
Algiz - shielding
Ansuz - divinity, mental stability, communication and speech
Berkana - birch
Dagaz - new beginnings and transformation
Ehwaz - horse, transport
Eihwaz - death
Fehu - wealth, abundance, livestock and positivity
Gebo - gift, exchange and generosity
Haglaz - hailstorm, cleansing and destruction
Isa - ice, delay, self-control and frigidity
Inguz - home, news and fertility
Jera - harvest
Kenaz - torch, passion, inspiration and creativity
Lagaz - water, river, lake or renewal
Mannaz - man
Naudit - need or distress
Othala - inheritance
Pertho - luck or fate
Raido - ride, wheel or journey
Sowilo - sun
Tiwaz - sacrifice, fairness, balance
Thurisaz - masculinity, courage and empowerment
Ur - valor, fortitude, strength and stability
Wunjo - joy, satisfaction, goodness and fellowship
All of them are used in the general day-to-day prayers and special rituals. Everyone of these runes represent a deity in the Maaren pantheon (I will probably do a seperate post about that as well). All citizens of Maar have a rune as a necklace around their neck that represents their tutelary god/goddess (for example: Azar's tutelary god is the god of war “Tiw” and her rune is tiwaz). At a certain age (probably around 11-15, sometimes earlier), children have to go through a ritual that lets them meet the gods of the pantheon and the gods decide which of them will be their protector and the one that should be represented by this child. They then get their rune-necklace and are allowed to choose if they want a permanent tattoo of their rune (or something else) or just the necklace. Some do as it is believed to amplify the effect/power of their rune. If you want to give somebody else the powers of your rune or the protection of your own tutelary god to somebody else, you hand them your necklace to wear and say a prayer to your god (no ritual needed, the prayer is enough). The necklace has to be worn at all times normally and if the original rune is not returned, a new ritual has to be made so the effect can be transferred to another rune stone.
And these are the runes that actually have confirmed magical force (since Maar is a young country not everything is explored and/or researched to the fullest).
Ansuz - communication
Raido - teleportation
Kenaz - produces light
Haglaz - conjures up a Hailstorm
Isa - produces ice
Ur - makes you physically or mentally stronger for a short time
Thurisaz - generates strong outbursts of power
Algiz - conjures up a shield/barrier for a short time
Ehwaz - summons a horse
Mannaz (or Eihwaz, have yet to decide) - summons the dead and gives them the ability to come back alive for a short time (only works if the dead person feels as if they still have something left unresolved in their life)
Lagaz - conjures up water/rain
healing rune pending
Everyone in the army and navy need to be able to use at least the basic runes to a certain extant aka. communication, teleportation, producing light (not complitelly sure about this one) and healing. They train from a very young age but everyone of all ages can be accepted (if your health is fine in older age you will also be accepted) into the army/navy.
On how the runes work:
I will not say too much here on how they generally work since in chapter 3 the soldier with the scar (Pavle) will explain it for me (could this be considered a spoiler?).
But what I will talk about is how to multiply the effect or the strength of the effect. (I already made a comment about it under this post but I will just copy-paste it here again.) So if you want the effect to be stronger, you need more of the same rune stone. But one person can only use two to three stones at the same time so if you want to, for example, heal more than one wound in one go or conjure up an actual storm and not a cough of wind you need at least two to three or more people to do so. It depends on skill levels though (so squires and students are not allowed to do that without strict supervision) and only the priests/druids (name pending, suggestions welcome) are actually allowed to use that many or more at the same time since it takes a huge chunk of stamina and energy. Very dangerous in the midst of war and very easy to misuse and abuse for power (only in emergencies allowed for everyone). So Maar is very strict with who and how to use the runes with magic force. That's why they are mainly used for battles and only the teleportation rune is allowed to be used by a tiny selection of merchants (for example, merchants who sell merchandise lthat needs to be kept fresh, for example). That system is the only way so far to keep the abuse of the runes under control and is obviously not really fair. It currently is being researched more by a specific team directly monitored by the King and the highest priest/druid/whatever and new laws are being created, but not passed, left and right.
Again, Maar is a young country and has to figure shit out on the go - it is probably in its early/mid teenage years, if you will. This issue will probably be resolved in a few thousand years, so my AU doesn’t really touch that much on it (probably will integrate the problem when we are in Gilan). But I love little tid-bits from outside the story that might never come up - it just makes the world feel even more alive and a little bit more real!
Also: every rune has a small side effect, so that they are not that op, lol. One will be explained in chapter 4 by, again, Pavle.
So, I think that is what I generally wanted to tell about the runes without being too spoilery (if there even was anything to be spoiled lol). If there are any more questions: my inbox is looking very empty so feel free to spam me!

The common complaint regarding "hard" magic systems is that they remove the ineffable element, that they turn magic into Just Advanced Technology. But I have zero issue with this. What is a problem is that fans of "hard" magic systems are THEE most obnoxious human beings on the planet. There is no one more pedantic, more insistent on explaining minutiae, more intent on strangling any attempt at fun in the name of preserving the sanctity of a system someone else made up.

i find it so interesting that the steps to healing the nervous system are pretty much the same steps to aligning your chakras. psychologists and spiritualists oftentimes will recommend the same things to heal: meditation, time with nature, journaling, yoga, etc. ironically, thanks to science i feel so much more connected to the divine and my higher self again 💚

OKAY IT’S THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT NOW AND I KNOW WHAT I WANNA TALK ABOUT—
i am gonna be running two events later this year, niecest weekend (august 9-11) and eighthcest weekend (it’s looking like september 20-22) and they’re gonna be GREAT! we’re voting on prompts for niecest weekend right now (dm me for a link if you’d like to vote btw i gave them out in servers but i know not everyone’s in them) and they’re looking really fun tbh 👀👀👀 and we’re still in the suggestion phase for the eighthcest weekend prompts (that link is public and i’ll probably try to reblog it again a day or two before i close the form and switch to voting) but there have been so many absolute banger suggestions already, i’m really really excited for that one as well! i’m gonna do my best to write for them both if i can too because 💪 the main reason i run events is to also participate in them lmfao. tbh lowkey ship weeks/prompt weeks aren’t that hard to run, but it helps to start the ball rolling a bit early for me because i struggle a lot with fatigue and i have a number of memory issues, so i also try to keep reminders in my phone, like “make and spread x google form today” or “don’t forget to ask luna to make a graphic for me pretty pretty please”. speaking of luna XD she is so helpful tbh bc i don’t know colors and if i tried to make a graphic i’m sure it would be so dull for the first several years because i have not trained for an artistic eye at all but she can do something nice in like an hour and takes payment in kisses lol. i don’t remember where i was going with all of this i got distracted but it’s meant to be a ramble so 🤷 that’s fine. i’m really excited for them both and i’m definitely going to use my mod privilege to get a little head start on writing my fics for them lol. ah, i still need to make the collection for eighthcest weekend as well, and maybe an email to go with it just in case i would at some point like to pass the torch along… lots to think about lots to do, but it’s in little flurries of activity tbh and i have a million other things i need to do rn so like 😅 maybe next week if i can get enough done!

So I read the new Asra Tale “The Lost Spell” on Dorian and uh....that was...Not Great.
There were a lot of issues and I ended up thinking about what I would have done differently/how I would change the story while still trying to stick to more or less the core concept of it, and I figured I would share those musings here.
First things first, I would have made this story a more...personal one for Asra and MC involving Asra’s past and his parents. A story where Asra and MC are trying to retrieve something that was lost to his parents...I would have made this story not about a missing spell, but instead about lost alchemical research. Alchemy being the field of expertise for Asra’s parents, blending science and magic, and a field that Asra himself is most likely more unfamiliar with. (You could still make reference to this material/lost alchemical research being relevant to the current efforts to fix Vesuvia’s water system with a mention of how it could have been helpful I dunno)
This ends up being what leads Asra and MC to seek out The Magician for help  after digging for information in the palace records and library havent turned up anything and Asra’s attempts to track via magic havent been fruitful. Thus leading to the hint that what they seek can be found in Asra’s memories.
Instead of skipping straight to being told where to go to find the information, it could have been fun to have Asra and MC searching through the pools in Asra’s gate to find the right memory, giving us fragmentary moments from Asra’s past to witness as a result. Perhaps moments from, for example, when Asra and MC first met, a memory of Asra’s time on the streets with Muriel, the argument Asra and MC had during the plague, etc...until eventually they come across the memory they are looking for...one that is so old as to have been long forgotten by Asra, something a little raw and bittersweet...a memory from when Asra was a small child before he was separated from his parents. In this memory they find the alchemical research they had been searching for in the Alnazar home.
I dunno something along those lines could have been nice, while sticking to the idea of searching for some lost knowledge/magic.

i made a hard magic system to explain the powers in the show, and through that, I can like. Tell you which spell or school of magic was used to do most anything. and I did that because the show didn't have time to (giving them the benefit of the doubt) plus it's cool to just. sometimes let the rule of cool work instead of explaining things.
but that's also dangerous because then when we go into power levels or anything like that, we don't have that magic system to fall back onto to explain why one character beat the other or why one character is stronger than the other.
So I have a sort of list. And then I'm going to make a visual for people to understand. Let's dive into the magic system, shall we~?
Let's start with the basics of magic. To cast a spell, you need a base of magic, something to draw from, and the literal words of the spell. This is inspired from Wukong using magic in JTTW. A lot of the bones of this magic system comes from the novel and how they did things.
So, when I say, "you need magic" I mean you need some form of magic as a base to start with. And you use that base of magic to direct it to interact with something (elemental) or to like...use other spells (teleportation/manipulation/also elemental).
But let's get some visuals. I think that'll help.
Tumblr media
So here we have some of the school of magic that are commonly used as a base to perform spells. For instance, Macaque uses shadow magic. Red Son uses elemental magic (fire specifically) as a base. Wukong uses celestial.
You'll notice that some subsets of magic are hooked to those that are used as a base. That's because those subsets of magic require that specific type of magic in order to be cast. For example, you can only possess someone using death magic. You can only use time magic with spatial magic as a base.
Now let's look at someone like Nezha. He uses celestial magic as a base, then uses elemental (fire) spells. That's where his pink fire comes from. Lady Bone Demon used death magic as a base, but then used elemental (ice) spells.
It's different from Red Son who uses fire magic as a base. Let's get another visual to help.
Tumblr media
Here, we actually have the other subsets of magic. This is where all the meat is. Now, let's look at some examples with both these visuals.
Let's do Lady Bone Demon.
So, we need a base first. Her base was Death magic. Then we look at the second image, and she can use death magic to cast any of those spells in the green.
Let's say she wants to do some teleportation magic. She'd use death as a base and use that to cast the teleportation spell. The spell then changes because she used death magic as a base.
Compared to Macaque who uses shadow magic as a base, when he uses a teleportation spell, it looks different. He can travel between shadows. If Lady Bone Demon used a teleportation spell with death magic as a base, she'd...travel...between graveyards or corpses. Or bone pits. It would be death related.
Let's dissect Nezha. So, we go to the first picture and we pick celestial magic as a base. Then let's say he wants to cast a...wood spell (his pink flowers). So he's using celestial + wood = pink flowers for Nezha!
Let's do Azure next. He uses celestial magic as a base, then we go down to the second image and pick something. Azure wants to cast a...materialization spell (to summon his sword) and he does so! and his sword materializes from his hand. Celestia + materialization = sword for Azure!
Now, each school of magic visualized here requires something to work. Like I said before, we need the base of magic, something to draw from, and the spell itself (the words). So let's get into the specifics of what we're drawing from when we cast a spell in that second picture.
For transformation magic, we need to use breath+spirit+visualization. Wukong explains this to MK.
Here's are some other examples.
Celestial: soul/being Death: soul/being Elemental: motion Manipulation: mind+touch Shadow: mind+heart Illusion: Sign+mind+visualization Teleportation: visualization+soul/being+mind
Maybe if we break it down by individual spells, it'll be easier LMFAO. Let's say Wukong wants to use an earth spell. He'd use celestial magic as a base, then use motion, and then mutter the words of the specific spell.
Let's say Macaque wants to cast a manipulation spell. He'd use shadow magic as the base, then use mind and touch (meaning he has to touch the person/object he's trying to manipulate) and then he'd say the specific words of the spell.
The red subsets of magic on the second picture refer to them being in another class. Sleep/immobilization/mind control all fall into manipulation magic. I wasn't sure where to put them (I ran outta room).
So, Wukong wants to cast a sleep spell. He'd use celestial magic as a base, use mind and touch (manipulation), and then say the words of the specific spell.
Red Son uses fire magic as a base. So, everything he does takes motion. Let's say he wants to use teleportation spell. He'd use motion first (elemental) then he'd use visualization/soul/mind (teleportation), and then he'd mutter the words for the specific spell.
It's also entirely possible for characters to change what magic they use as a base. Macaque, for example, as a celestial primate has celestial magic inside of him at all times. However, he chooses to use shadow magic as a base.
Wukong, also, could switch to using let's say...fire magic as a base. That would mean if he used fire magic to direct the wind and cloud somersault, it'd make a huge cloud of flame! dangerous. Let's be glad he doesn't do that.
I think i've covered the basics. If you're confused and this doesn't make sense, feel free to send an ask. I mostly used this for reference and I haven't explained it to anyone else. So I may have fucked it up, but I hope the visuals help LMFAO
