I pity the people that don't live in Czech Republic or at least Slovakia (sorry, I had to), they're missing out on so many things.
Does your "America's got talent" or "Britain's got talent" have an award for the most bizzare number the judges have seen??
Because in "Česko-Slovensko má talent" (our rendition of the show) we do.
It's an award of Golden Pátrovič. Named after the man, the legend Josef Pátrovič, who was so determined, to come back every year to win over the judges hearts, yet fail every time.
Rest in peace Josef Pátrovič, you made a name for yourself and you will forever be known as the legend you are.
You are now the patron of all the bizzare moments we had honor witnessing in our television, and by god, were there far too many.

Chiara: Gen-Z lesbian icon we were waiting for
(This is a translation of Chiara: el referente lésbico Gen Z que estábamos esperando and some comments of mine)
Tumblr media
Chiara Oliver Williams is one of the 16 contestants from the reality-talent show more successful of Spain: Operación Triunfo. She's 19 years old, she likes Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Alanis Morissette, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Fleetwood Mac and Rosalía. She speaks four languages fluently, she plays the piano, the bass and the guitar, she's a composer, she's half English, half Spanish, and, without doubt, one of the most promising artists on the Spanish music industry. But we're going to focus on yet another aspect of her personality, last but no least: she's an out and proud lesbian.
Tumblr media
"I'm Chiara, I like Christmas, girls, I'm a bit crazy and that's it." That's how she defined herself at the beginning of December (when the contest had barely started) when Ruslana, one of her housemates (bisexual wink) asked her to talk about her. And boy, was she right, because during the following weeks she has shown us that, if there's something crucial about her life and personality is, besides music and her talent, her lesbianism.
Let's start from the beginning. Chiara was one of the candidates that caught the most attention during the casting stage (in which 13 thousand contestants tried their luck) for her special voice, her artistic personality and her technical skills.
As early as the first week of the contest we know she's a raging homosexual when another one of her housemates, Violeta (also bisexual wink) asked her why several of her compositions are dedicated to boys (even though she would later explain they're not romantic songs) when she's "the most lesbian from all lesbians of Spain." However, her "official" coming out came later thanks to the LGBT talk scheduled in the show.
"Straight-passing", invisibility and lesbian pride
During that talk, Chiara spoke to talk about one of the problems femme lesbians often face: being pretty and femenine, and so, nobody expects they're lesbians.
Tumblr media
And that's just what Chiara explained. It took her a while to understand not just to understand her lesbianism, but assume it, because how are you going to be a lesbian if you're not masculine and have grown up in a society which denies you like girls if you're pretty and femenine? Like, if boys like you and you check every box they look for, how could you not like them?
Basically, she talked abour her experience. "I've always been very feminine Society tells you lesbians are masculine, gays and affeminate, so I didn't realise until later because I told myself "I'm not masculine, so it's phisically impossible." But that's not the truth."
Chiara has what is known as straight-passing, that is, nobody thinks she's a lesbian at first glance, and nobody is going to think so if she doesn't say it. And that's a "privilege" and more so in a TV contest. But she decided not to "use" that "privilege" and she says every single day she's a lesbian. And, of course, she has "paid" the price, but we will talk about that later. All that matters is that Chiara's not only openly a lesbian, she has said it whenever possible, has coined "Go lesbians" as a personal brand alongside Bea, another housemate and a lesbian too and she says the word "lesbian" without any kind of taboo.
Tumblr media
Lesbian is a word so charged with prejudice that a lot of lesbians refuse to use it and prefer some "euphemisms" like gay. So it is to be welcomed that a 19-year old Menorcan says it in one of the most successful TV shows in Spain (and with some repercussion in Latin America). With all its letters, with pride.
Chiara is a lesbian. And she also has all lesbian culture in her mind. She's a fan of Glee (particularly of Santana and Brittany), her favourite character from Grey's Anatomy is Arizona Robbins and she didn't like Bridgerton for being too straight. She loves Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson and Paula Usero. I Kissed a girl is a hymn in her life (and she sang it in the contest and finished it with a kiss with Violeta) and has covered Mujer contra mujer thousands of times.
youtube
She, self proclaimed "Spanish lesbian Olivia Rodrigo", also has various romantic songs aimed to girls and many of them composed during the contest (rumours say some of them are dedicated to one of her girl friends in the contest).
Ships
Of course people is going to ship her with her housemates. In fact, a bisexual boy, Paul, confessed his feelings for her knowing it was impossible, which he told her, and people suspect possible relationships with her mentioned before housemates Violeta and Ruslana. It's true they're all very good friends, but Violeta has a girlfriend already and Ruslana is dating another housemate. I (the translator) personally think this is not relevant but, to whoever may care, you can search Wartanera on YouTube.
Misogyny, lesbophobia and ableism
Well, obviously not everything could be rosy. This is the 21st century and Spain can be one of the most advanced countries on LGBTQ+ and women's rights, but lesbophobia still exists. Chiara started the contest as one of the favourite contestant to win, but for the lat month she has received a hate wave from a good chunk of the audience because, well, she's an easy target.
Reality shows audience look for people to hate, and nothing is easier than a lesbian girl with ADHD. Chiara faces double discrimination for her sexual orientation and for being neurodivergent. And the consequence is that she could leave the show this week.
How to save Chiara
If you have read all of this, if you like how she sings, what she means to us, please help us save her and stay in the contest, not only for Chiara, but all Chiara represents.
You can watch all of her performances on the official Operación Triunfo Channel (and clips of Chiara in general)
You can see what she has done in the Academy through Twitter and Tiktok searching for Chiara OT or the words "Kivi" and "Ruski" (her ships).
You can listen to the songs she has covered in the contest and follow her on Spotify where she will publish her own songs outside the contest
But the most important thing is to vote for free in the official Operación Triunfo App once a day until Monday 5th February. It's fast and easy. If you are from Latin America or Spain you can download the app for free. If not, you can download it from here. Follow the instructions below to vote. It's very easy. Save the lesbians, go lesbians

I was First Runner-up in a talent contest
Tumblr media
It was for our company's Pride's Got Talent—a competition open to all employees in the Philippines in celebration of Pride month. The finals was held during the culminating event dubbed as "Pride Means More Celebrations" held on June 28.
I was a bit hesitant to join at first, but then I showed the ecard invitation for auditions to two of my closest friends at work.
They didn't just support the idea. They were convinced I was gonna win. Before I was able to say anything, they've already made a deal that if I win—which they're already a hundred percent sure that I would—I should treat them for sushi.
And... I agreed. And I didn't want to let them down. I could've just sent a lame audition video and save some extra stress from my life, but I didn't.
I had two options for my entry. First is that I'd do my cover of Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You" on the guitar, and second is I'd do a cover of Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" on the piano blindfolded.
"If I Ain't Got You" was an easier choice, and I would've gone with that had my fingernails been longer—I had just cut them short at that time.
So... I went with the blindfolded drama, even if it's more difficult to do. It's gonna be fun. After all, winning wasn't my primary intention. I'd be happy if I was chosen as a finalist and that would be enough reason to treat my friends for some sushi.
Tumblr media
And guess what?
I was selected as one of the four finalists out of 29 entries. That means I had to perform live—literally live on the venue with an audience and everything—for the finals.
With that, the organizers requested us to submit a recorded cheer or message video from our teammates and friends. It's gonna be played along with our intro video right before we perform.
I wasn't comfortable yet with spreading the news to our entire design team. Only a handful of people—my closest friends—know that I am bisexual and that I have a male partner. Even my own family and relatives don't know about me. Telling the team that I was a finalist for a Pride celebration contest could reveal that I'm part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
I am not ashamed of who I am, but I wasn't ready to disclose that part of me yet, which was why I only requested a video from those who already know and those whom I think should know—only eight people.
Upon knowing what I did, they congratulated me. They were very excited and happy for me.
But I had a problem. I didn't have the slightest idea how I'm gonna take my eight-octave digital piano from Cavite City to BGC and vice versa. Commute by bus would be the last resort.
Aside from that, all was good.
Tumblr media
Until... the Friday before the competition, I was outed to my family. I slept soundly the night before, only to wake up with the story that my relatives already know about me.
It was partially my fault since they found out about it through this blog, but it was in no way under my terms. My father was mad at me for like fifteen minutes—this went on while I was starting my shift at work.
I panicked that time. My heart was racing. While my father was throwing me all the words he could think of, I was chatting all my friends, telling them what was happening at that very moment.
It was resolved quickly. My father hugged me, and so did my sister—who was very supportive of me and didn't mind at all. And I cried.
I got on a call with my best friend after all the commotion and... that call was just a burst of comfort. During our call, I mentioned about my being a finalist on the contest and she volunteered to help me transport my keyboard to the office since she's free on that day. She would have to leave right after though since she had a shift at the hospital by 6:00 PM.
Anyway...
At least, some of my problems had been solved.
Tumblr media
My best friend and I also talked about the film Everything, Everywhere, All at Once because it somehow relates to my situation. How nothing matters. When this idea is viewed liberatingly rather than depressive, it can be freeing. No matter what the circumstances are, we always have to fight with love.
That Friday night, I told one of my friends whom I requested for a cheer video that I'm gonna share the news and invite the whole team to watch and support me on the finals. I don't care if they know that I'm bisexual. I won't mind whatever the repercussions will be.
So I did. I told the entire team about the talent contest the day before the finals.
You know what? I felt like every part of me that was shattered in that fateful Friday was slowly being rebuilt back up.
I was showered with love and support from my teammates, and they were so excited to see me perform on the finals.
And they did.
Our group chat was so active during and after my performance.
They were so happy and they were very proud of me. And even though I was on my own in the venue and I didn't know anyone, I never felt alone.
Tumblr media
When I was announced as the First Runner-up, I had no ounce of regret within me. I had no hard feelings whatsoever. On the other hand, it was my teammates who were all like, "Sam should've won," or like, "We should file an incident report!"
Having received all these from people who aren't even related to me by blood just warms my heart. Knowing that I didn't let them down already made me feel like a winner in so many ways.

Got Talent is like this in every country right??
funniest / dumbestshit I saw this week: me and my family were watching TV and just clicking on random channels, so we stop at the channel that GT was passing and we just watched, every one was getting an yes and shit, but then some random dude starts playing guitarra and singing (he was good but not THAT good okay) and then the host talks to him and asks why he was there and wth, and he says:
"It was for me and my friends (who were supporting him) to be in Architecture class." he just said it like an fun fact, but then the host just goes to the gold button and clicks in it for him???
1. I didn't know the host could do that?? and 2. Wtf was that?? He just skipped his college class to be there! How can he be in final just for that? If that's it then idk anymore. (The people before him were actually better so wtf)
