Been thinking abt the Bucket Freedom ending and how the facility refuses to let Stanley leave with the bucket. And like, I dunno if this is a reach but it makes me think that the bucket is meant to be a metaphor for a coping mechanism, specifically one that starts out being a positive and helpful mechanism (the original purpose being to help the player go through the uncomfortable parts of the game without feeling discomfort) to a negative coping mech that starts to hold you back and keep you stagnate in life. The facility wants to keep the bucket because it wants Stanley to leaving his old safety net and take on the new world ahead of him without being held back. To take on a new life and the womders and pains that come with it rather than stay trapped with a placebo that can only help for so long before it starts to hurt Stanley mentally amd physically.
