Blog 2 - Overview of the Film "Elevator to the Gallows"

"Elevator to the Gallows" is a drama thriller that came out in Paris during 1958 by director Louis Malle. This film is about a young woman, Florence, who is having an affair with her husband's, Simon, employee named Julien. Julien climbed into Simon's office using a rope and murders him, however, after Julien left the crime scene he realized he had left the rope behind dangling from the window. After he goes and reclaims the rope, he becomes stuck in the building's elevator as the power was turned off. Florence and Julien believe they can escape their fate of being caught for the crime, but the elevator trapping Julien inside contradicts the couple's wish as it is symbolic of their situation.

One very significant scene in the film was the opening scene of the phone call between Florence and Julien. The film opens with a close-up of Florence's face, which was a common technique of French New Wave films. As the camera zooms out we can see she is on the phone and has a lot of emotion going on within her. She's upset and nervous, yet determined. As she confesses her love to Julien, they determine the plan for him to murder Simon which is necessary for them to be together. This phone call sets up the plot of the film quite well. The words spoken in this scene, "then we'll be free," convey that Simon is stopping them from being together. Although, we soon find out that Julien murdering Simon does the opposite of freeing him since he becomes trapped in the elevator.

Started a crime book, critics call it a "radical environmentalist manifesto", and short story long story, someone kidnapped the CEO of Total.

Kenley/Kaylee, a mixture of both cold and warm, you don't actually know if they'd be the perfect actor at all. They're all over the place, left and right, backward and forwards, you can't ever seem to spot them in one place for more than five minutes. The directors are starting to wonder if you two will even be able to progress through these scenes with their attention being constantly stolen, but hey, who knows, it might work!

something i just remembered. my mom did not give me the sex talk or the period talk but one day when i was like ueugh i need something to read she gave me this old romance novel. about a tutor and a girl he was supposed to shape into a young lady bc after her mother's death she was allowed to run wild and she was a mess with no chances of finding a good match.

#most memorable scene: her slipping under his sheets and him rejecting her bc she didn't know what she was asking for #anyway. my favorite genre was global conspiracy thriller this was not what i had in mind.
