Long before Gabriel Rossetti became involved in the Pre-Raphaelite movement, when he was still a teenager, he travelled to France and became captivated by Gavarni's illustrations, particularly those featuring female performers wearing trousers. As a result, he created several sketches of working-class couples. His style in these sketches is reminiscent of some of Hugo's sketches. This particular sketch is from 1844, and I can't help but imagine that it could have depicted Éponine if she had survived until that time and grown strong and healthy.

Bijna iedere dag muziek: Aerial

Sudden Light - Dante Gabriel Rossetti I have been here before, But when or how I cannot tell: I know the grass beyond the door, The sweet keen smell, The sighing sound, the lights around the shore. You have been mine before,— How long ago I may not know: But just when at that swallow's soar Your neck turn'd so, Some veil did fall,—I knew it all of yore. Has this been thus before? And shall not thus time's eddying flight Still with our lives our love restore In death's despite, And day and night yield one delight once more?
